Guest Reviews
- Rafael (6/5): - Regular. Buen ambiente, pero el hotel descuidado
- Christian (10/5): - Nice to stay in a pub. Friendly staff, good rooms. Too bad my car got so much bird droppings in the parking…
- Inna (8/5): - It’s a very nice old hotel with great restaurant and bar. The location is very nice, near a beautiful park and many restaurants, however, going to and from main attractions takes 40 - 90 minutes depending on traffic.
- Jennifer (10/5): - Great little hidden gem in the park. Pub downstairs but still quiet in the room.Very comfortable beds.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Quintessentially British - The hotel is quintessential British in its decor and feel. Hotel rooms are spread across multiple half levels, so be ready to climb a few small sets of stairs with your luggage.
The room we stayed in hadn’t been renovated, but it was still lovely and faced the parking lot and Clapham Common, which provided some privacy and quiet. There was dust on the table, and a water reservoir cover missing from the Nescafé espresso maker. The bathroom had a slow clearing drain. Overall the room was in good condition.
Its such a great hotel in terms of location, pricing, size, and food that I look forward to going back next year if not before!
- Shayne (8/5): Exploring Europe - Our stay was good and comfortable
Only issue was getting our luggage down the stairs on an early morning check out
Older people would struggle with doing that
- Deborah (6/5): - I have stayed here numerous times over the last seven years, and sadly the state of property is really bad now.
Paint and plaster falling off the walls, terrible thread bare carpet throughout.
The rooms themselves are looking tired now.
The last few times the milk has been off, the fridge was turned off really dirty.
It’s a shame because I used to love coming to the windmill, but even the food has gone really downhill.
- Brian (8/5): - We were staying in the old end of the hotel and I must say it was very tired service was good and bed very comfortable we informed management of our situation and they were very nice and gave us a reasonable discount of the bill we hope when we return things will have changed
- Linda (8/5): - Comfortable and friendly helpful staff
- Michelle (8/5): - An older property , quirky clever accommodations which were nice and quiet despite being grouped with a pub . Refurbishment is probably due here and there and the bed was a little uncomfortable for the room rate when comparing to city centre prices .
- Philippa (8/5): - Lovely place to dtay
- Jane (10/5): - Everything was great !x
- alberto (10/5): - Lovely "retro" feel room with elegant bathroom. Away from main bar area so quiet, comfy beds and good room amenities.
- lisa (10/5): - 10/10. The staff were all outstanding and made us feel welcomed into a community ! The communication prior to our arrival was timely and very helpful . This was my family’s first trip to London and our stay was amazing . The beds were very comfortable and rooms are roomy . while thete is no elevator , easy to walk and they help you with luggage if needed.
The food at the restaurant was great with good options and sensitive to allergies. The set up of the pub is very comfortable, with seating and tables to play board games. eat ,drink and be as social as one would like . On the main bus line , train only a 10 min walk , easy uber pick up , on a park and lots to do that are walkable in the community ! A hidden gem . Will be our go to spot when coming to London .
- Paul (6/5): - The location is great, easy walkiny distance to Clapham Common station, shops, bars, restaurants etc.
Unfortunately our room was very tired, not as clean as we would have liked and not good enough for the cost. It was actually very dissapointing as other aspects of our stay were good, including the staff and food.
- Theresa (10/5): - Great hotel actually on Clapham Common. Nice restaurant. Delicious breakfast. Five minutes walk to the tube and several buses.
- Veng (6/5): It’s ok - Charming and busy pub, seemingly popular.
Close to Clapham high street and convenient for traveling by tube.
A little underwhelmed however by the accommodation. Room could do with a proper dusting.
In addition, because I didn’t book directly with them, they would charge me an exorbitant rate every half hour for a late check out. It would have been free otherwise. I can’t understand the justification of the rate.
Breakfast was good with good cooked options.
- Jessica (10/5): - We absolutely loved our stay at the Windmill. The rooms were so cute and cozy. The bed was incredible. The night manager who checked us in was extremely friendly and helpful. The pub was also excellent. We had dinner there twice because it was so good. The breakfast was not good so I don’t recommend it but everything else was great. The area is very quiet by a park and is a short walk to the tube. Definitely would stay here again!
- Jessica (10/5): - Amazing staff and great location. Lots of cute shops and cafes near by. Only downside is it’s a ten minute walk to the subway but other than that it’s a 10/10
- Gregory (10/5): - Really nice place with nice people and easy access to the bus.
- Laura (8/5): - This is an older building currently (summer 2024) undergoing renovations so the hallways are not in the best of conditions and you will see construction folks around during the day (didn't hear any noise though). That being said, the rooms and bathrooms are quite spacious (got a double) for London quarters. The shower itself was a bit small but there is a tub with shower if needed and the toiletries provided are nice (sustainable re-fill bottles of shampoo, conditioner, body wash, hand soap, and lotion). Staff are friendly and the reception desk is staffed 24/7, which was great since we arrived after midnight and got the full welcome. We had breakfast twice, once the continental and once a la cart, price was fair and continental was filling. Sadly, we did not get to enjoy the restaurant and pub in the evenings as we were out every night but they were always full upon our return. The location is great as it is literally within the park and there is a bus stop right in front or the tube is less than a 10 min walk away.
- Isaline (10/5): Wonderfull hotel/pub ! - It was wonderful! One of the best hotel I have ever been
- Verified traveler (8/5): Rediscovering Clapham as former residents - We really enjoyed our stay, and we have already shared our experience with others. The room was in above average condition, and it was surprisingly quiet despite facing the restaurant/pub. The shower pressure was great. If I had to provide constructive criticism, I would recommend that the flooring and shower stall be upgraded.
- Brian (4/5): Great location, awful room - Great location, comfortable beds but that's about it. Our room was very tired, not very clean and extremely dark. Mould in the bathroom, chipped furniture, dirty curtains. Very expensive for what it is. Location is excellent and it was quiet.
- Stephanie (10/5): - Two room was ideal for an overnight stay. All was very clean, staff were friendly and polite. Breakfast was lovely. All very good value for a hotel in London .
- Jessica (10/5): One night stay - I stayed for one night, and it was wonderful! I asked for a quiet room, and they made sure mice stay was comfortable. The breakfast was outstanding too!
- Christopher (8/5): - Convenient and comfortable
- Alexandra (8/5): - Charming place in good location
- DEBORA (10/5): - Everyone was so nice. Rooms were so cool. The bar and the restaurant were amazing!
- DEBORA (10/5): - Beautiful place
- Kathryn (10/5): Highly recommended - Lovely room, very comfortable bed, nice breakfast with high quality produce.
It was delightful to have a selection of wine glasses, teaspoon rather than a wooden stick and fresh milk in the fridge. Really enjoyed my stay despite it being for business.
- derek (10/5): A gem on Clapham Common - Fantastic stay, with everything needed provided. Great pub, great restaurant, great room. Will be back, next time we are in London.
- Linda (10/5): - We would definitely stay here again, when next in the area. Although we did not use the snack or mini bar, having the option to use them was a welcomed change, they were reasonably priced too
- Deborah (6/5): - Sour milk, no teabags and stale biscuits.
Room had cobwebs and was dusty and unloved.
- Steve (10/5): - Great hotel. Friendly and clean next to Clapham Common and easy walk to the tube!
- Spencer (8/5): - Room was pleasant, excellent to have fresh milk in the fridge
- David (10/5): - Lovely hotel, styling room with nice touches. The most comfy bed, fluffiest towels with lots of tempting treats in a fully stocked mini-bar and wicker basket, although a bit pricey! The bar downstairs was busy and bustling, we didn't eat or drink here this time, but will definitely stay here again.
- Richard (10/5): Lovely hotel/pub. Good rooms, good food - Delightful little hotel right on Clapham Common. Not too far to walk from the tube station. Lovely rooms, dog friendly, excellent food. Would stay here again
- Roger (8/5): Family stay for a week - The service at this hotel was wonderful. After the airline lost ALL of our luggage for 3 days, the staff helped recommend places to shop and get necessities. Everyone was very friendly and the rooms were comfortable. Well sized rooms, comfortable beds, and the A/C was wonderful.
- Verified traveler (8/5): Lovely - The hotel is absolutely lovely and the staff were all brilliant, would definitely stay again. The only problem was that in the morning whoever was above us was walking around a lot and the floor boards are extremely creaky so we didn't sleep that well after 8am.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Adequate but expensive for what is received - Check in and staff were ok, however let down by the fact there were some questions on cleanliness.
Stains on carpet
Very dusty wall sconces
Inconsistent housekeeping over week
Shower grout discoloured and so was curtain
Toilet bowl has big crack too
Lastly room over main pub door where people congregate during evening making it quite loud.
- Paul (10/5): - Excellent stay. Room was beautiful and clean. Bed was very comfortable. The location was excellent as it was right on the Common. Higjly recommended and will stay again.
- Lucy (10/5): - Well presented and good value
Would use again
- Caroline (10/5): - Super friendly staff, and very cute room. Convenient location!
- Edward (10/5): - Stayed for one night the reception staff were helpful & friendly.
- David (10/5): - Perfect for my 2 night stay. Exceeding all my expectations, food and room in particular was great. Staff super helpful.
- Helen (10/5): Fabulous hotel - I booked the Windmill as an emergency last-minute place to stay late at night, as the original place I’d booked seemed very unsafe.
The Windmill was really lovely - although I had a room on the ground floor near to the bar, it was silent as soon as the door closed. The room was super cute, comfy, clean and with everything you’d want/need - including coffee machine, minibar snacks & sky TV (with premium film channels too).
The bathroom was really clean, with great water pressure from the shower - although the fan stayed on continuously which was odd.
Great hotel - I’d definitely stay again and would easily recommend.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Wonderful weekend stay at The Windmill in Clapham - We're so glad that we decided to spend a weekend at the Windmill in Clapham. It was so nice waking up to a view of the Common instead of big buildings, our room was spacious and charming, the restaurant downstairs was lively and fun, and the surrounding neighborhood was really lovely. Highly recommend staying here if the purpose of your visit is to enjoy London as the locals do rather than as a sight-seeing tourist, although the tube is nearby and it's easy to jump on the Northern Line to get anywhere else. I hope we can say here again soon.
- Susan (8/5): Great stay again - I love this hotel the only negative is the bathrooms are getting a bit run down, with mold on the tiles which is easy to fix with some bleach. Otherwise love it - rooms are quiet except for the occasional dog barking on the common. Great food in the pub restaurant. Reception staff are lovely, especially to Irish lady.
There is a bus stop right outside so if you don't have a car its easy to get the the tube in a few minutes.
- Stephanie (8/5): - A lovely quirky hotel in a great position on the edge of Clapham Common. If I had one negative comment it would be to provide bigger coffee cups in the room.
- Jonathan (10/5): Great hotel - Really comfortable room. Good breakfast. Excellent location with free parking on site.
- Charlotte (6/5): - Stay was fine and room was as described. Would definitely say it’s overpriced for what you get, wifi struggled to work in the room on the top floor and it was not clearly mentioned that there are no lifts
- Vivienne (10/5): Great room - Great room, it was very spacious. Clean and i will definitely come again. I was worried about the noise as the pub is underneath and people outside you can hear them but the noise stopped by a reasonable time so i was able to sleep soundly.
- Harry (10/5): - Lovely comfy rooms, great bar and restaurant in a lovely part of London. Highly recommend
- Katherine (10/5): - Perfect and allowed dogs - not that I have one but nice to have them around
- Gail (10/5): - Friendly, clean and convenient location and plus it was super quiet at night so I could get a good nights sleep,
- Leigh (6/5): I need a proper shower! - I've stayed twice now as the location is great for my needs but both times the rooms smell damp. Makes me feel quite queasy. The shower was also pointless. the water was so fine I couldn't get my hair washed and rinsed properly and now feels horrible and I can't wait to get to my next destination to wash it properly as I couldn't rinse the shampoo out properly.
- Leigh (8/5): - Nice room but there was an odour of damp.
- John (10/5): 4 day business stopover - Lovely place.
Great staff.
House keeping are amazing
Dogs allowed.
Say hi to Max the lovely St. Bernard.
He’s especially friendly if you have bacon.
Buy breakfast downstairs.
In house dining has great food and service.
Use Clapham South for escalators.
Shoe repairs, hair dressers and food places, all within reach, for those emergencies.
- Richard (10/5): New little gem found in Clapham - Great room, great atmosphere and will be going back
- Catherine (10/5): - Welcoming cosy family pub within easy reach of underground friendly helpful staff and clean comfortable room!
Well dine
- Kathleen Ann (6/5): - For what we were charged the room was very mediocre. We are staying in another hotel in Notting Hill which is far superior and half the price, and includes breakfast ( which our stay at The Windmill didn’t). That said we loved the area of Clapham Common.
- Keith (10/5): Keith's family break - Lovely room, pub and restaurant has been refurbished recently and service was good. Great location on the Common
- J (10/5): Great nights sleep - Fantastic hotel on Clapham Common with great decor and comfy bed !!
- Nicola (8/5): - Hotel was in a good postion for what we wanted to do..hotel staff friendy, breakfast lovely..
- John (10/5): - Very comfortable big room, we were worried it would be noisy but it wasn't at all. Had a very comfortable stay.
- Verified traveler (10/5): Very pleasant dinner bed and breakfast stay - Organised re spacing, sanitisers, closing times for bar and restaurant, all service to tables, and sanitising the room between guests, including the contents of the minibar apparently! Breakfast staff not wearing masks though. Good bed, stocked minibar with snacks, good coffee and tea, nice bathroom with bath and separate shower ( some rooms have shower over bath) . Pleasantly decorated room, carpet a little tired, and in corridors. Restaurant was very good, delicious vegan meal, good choice of wines by the glass, good breakfast. Parking limited but free of charge. Staff pleasant and accommodating.
- Amy (10/5): - Lovely clean and nicely decorated rooms. Bathroom was nice with good toiletries available. Sheets and towels were lovely. Tea and coffee facilities in the room were also good. Breakfast was well cooked and the staff were polite and friendly. Would stay here again.
- Colin (8/5): Could be fantastic with a little care and attn - Great location on the common easy to get to from Clapham North or South. Let down by a terrible Sunday lunch appalling microwaved meal with no substance or appeal and it was £20 per person. Pub and dining room look like they could do with a deep clean sometime soon. Breakfasts were good and room quirky
- Verified traveler (4/5): Very disappointed unfortunately! - Dark, dingy room. Hadn’t been cleaned well - which was very worrying during a pandemic! The bed was on castors on a wooden floor, so it moved whenever you sat on it (and didn’t want to sit on the armchair provided as it was filthy). Some nice smelling soap and toiletries in the bathroom, also a nice touch that they were full-size so weren’t wasting plastic on those miniatures! Good location and free parking was a bonus.... but wouldn’t stay again because of the state of the room.
- Kate (8/5): Clean room and good food - Great stay, and really impressed by how the hotel and pub have adapted to COVID. The Youngs app is good, and we enjoyed eating an evening meal in our room. There is a loud Air Conditioning unit that can be heard throughout the hotel all night. It's quite a noise for someone who has sensitive hearing, so perhaps something to address to help guarantee a good night's sleep.
- soek wai (10/5): Extremely fabulous - we only stay one of night in the hotel, The room extremely clean and quiet. free parking ,nice hotel.
- Shaun (8/5): - The hotel is part of an old pub. On the downside, the noise from the pub carried quite clearly to our room and, if we were not so jet lagged might have made it difficult to sleep. Particularly on the Saturday night that we were there.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Very pleasant stay. Warm and friendly staff.
- Margritha (10/5): Ideal for London visit - Very roomy and ideal for visit to London Nice location next to park for walkClise to city but with space and some green
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Lovely restaurant, great staff, unique rooms, location on common is great
- Verified traveler (8/5): Short stay - Comfortable, affordable & convenient location
- Verified traveler (10/5): A quiet gem. - We had a really warm welcome at reception and the room and bathroom were really cosy, comfortable and well equipped. The hotel overall was excellent. It was really quiet at night, a real bonus for London. The slight criticism is for the staff in the bar/restaurant both at night and at breakfast. They did not smile, we had to get their attention for service (even though it was not busy) and gave the impression they were being kept from something more important when we did ask for anything. A small issue to put right but it left us feeling less welcome. I would still recommend and we would use the hotel again.
- J Malcolm (10/5): - Very comfortable. Typical British Pub Hotel.
Great restaurant. Great location. More of a neighborhood area then a tourist area.
- Cynthia (10/5): - Great location close to the tube and bus stops.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great
- Renata (10/5): Peaceful and charming - Great location overlooking the common. Handy to tube stations and cafes. Very comfortable room. Loved the decor. Toiletries were beautiful. Charmed to meet Max the dog!
- Verified traveler (6/5): - the hotel was located beside the most lovely park. But with no elevator, plumbing not working properly, funky smell in the room for days and floors not very clean......was disappointing
- Carlota (8/5): - Location good for our needs. Pub would be more inviting with more attention to cleanliness and prompt cleaning of tables.
Animal friendly which is nice.
Hotel separate from pub . Nice atmosphere.
Friendly reception. overall pleasant.
- Russ (8/5): - Food, location and beds excellent, some TLC and maintenance requirements, comfortable rooms and excellent customer service.
- David (10/5): Lovely Windmill - Lovely staff, very helpful and friendly. Nice room, good size. Great location. Would stay again
- Michael (10/5): Very good - Very enjoyable and comfortable stay in a non chain individual hotel at a reasonable price for London
- Verified traveler (8/5): - I have a huge soft spot for this traditional pub hotel right on Clapham Common. It could do with a bit of a clean up in places but nothing significant enough to spoil the experience. The location is brilliant, feeling like your in the middle of the Common, but a very short walk to the high street. The pub is excellent and the rooms tastefully decorated in a very country vibe, and you only have to go downstairs to get a drink! What's not to like ;-)
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great location clean and comfortable rooms close to local amenities
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Love this hotel with its unique charm, lovely location to relax from hectic London - also, possibility for parking. Coming back soon
- John (4/5): A week at the Windmill - 8 day stay , great location, common on the doorstep, close to tube bus taxis. Room comfortable clean all facilities included excellent room service and make up.
It is a very busy pub inside and in the beer garden so quite noisy .
Breakfast good price but very basic.
Staff poorly dressed , not very happy and never smiled or call us by name.
Lots of dogs inside and out side areas. On checking out and paying our account the manager who was sitting at the reception desk completely ignored us and did not say thanks for staying, nothing. He was also reprimanded two staff in front of us! A fish rots from the head, so to speak.
- Hannah (10/5): Will be coming back! - Staff were friendly, the room was chic and clean and comfortable! Very homely! Cute dog too!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We had a very pleasant stay. Nice big room with lovely big bed which was comfy. Lovely bathroom with huge shower and plenty of toiletries. There was a mini bar and tea and coffee. The breakfast room was pleasant and we had a delicious breakfast. We also had lunch and were able to sit outside.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Comfortable room decorated in a traditional British style. Our room had a lovely outlook of Clapham Common. Ate dinner at the pub downstairs a couple of times during our stay which was very convenient. Close to shops, restaurants, cafes and tube station.
- Verified traveler (8/5): - Lovely place friendly staff, shame breakfast isn’t included in price,
- Shirley (8/5): Good clean and friendly would stay again - Great location for out visit. Very clean. Friendly and helpful staff. Only down side was that some of the decor was a bit tired.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - We stayed in Clapham to attend a yoga workshop nearby. We had a lovely time, hotel was really clean and had everything we needed. I would definitely stay here again.
- JULIEN (10/5): Amazing value! - Well done!
Friendly and very helpful reception staff.
Perfect location in a gorgeous park, ideal for jogging, yoga, picnics. 5 minute walk from Tube station and PureGym. 30 minutes to Bank Station in the City. Easy access by bus to the Tube, the overground (Clapham Junction), Battersea Park, South Kensington etc.
Beautiful property recently renovated. The Rooms are perfect and provide a true 4-5 star experience. Only downside there is no elevator, the old building is charming but upstairs corridors may not be stroller friendly :)
Simple yet generous breakfast buffet, à la carte options are plenty and very fairly priced. The pub food is great. The pub is gorgeous and vibrant.
Definitely coming back to The Windmill!
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Great peaceful location near busy London, 10-15 min walk to Underground, about a half hour ride to London city center, nice park surrounding the hotel, cute interior, great A/C, no lift, limited free parking (10 spots) so get there early or move your car in the morning into lot, some rooms located right next to onsite pub/restaurant, toilet would not flush properly - needed to flush multiple times, bed pretty uncomfortable, but the location is unbeatable if you have a car because it avoids the congestion charge and offers (some) free parking
