• maria (4/5): - We stayed for 3 nights. We decided to book this hotel for closeness to the area. That's the only good thing I can say about this hotel. The AC didn't cool the room at all, eventhough it was running. The bathroom had seen better days. It seems a very old hotel that hasn't been keeping up with maintenance, but definetely if you are looking for being close to Shinjiku and to the train stations for mobility, this is your march.

• Colin (8/5): - Quiet location and helpful staff. They got me a soft pillow (ask for one when you book).. You can leave your bags if you have a late departure. Wi-Fi was intermittent. Maybe because our room was at the end of the corridor.

Could here next door neighbor’s fight one night. Really close to a train station/shops/restaurants tho. If you wanted you could ways walk to downtown Shinjuku. Took about 15 minutes. Otherwise, hotel itself was pretty drab. Suited just for sleeping and nothing else

• Paul (6/5): - It's more like a small homestay than a motel/hotel. If you're fine with it, and just need a place to sleep and get fast access to the subway, it's a fair choice. It's cheap after all. Though if you're looking for a neat place and quality environment, better to look elsewhere. For me the price and accessibility was good enough for me to choose here.

• BUSAKORN (6/5): - It's bear minimum and no kettle to make tea or coffee. Bathroom is old but works. Easy walk to shops and station. Staffs are friendly.

The location is conveniently close to 2 main subway lines, so we enjoyed that. We only stayed one night so it wasn’t such a big deal, but I would avoid this property in the future.

• Kevin (4/5): A little work needed. - Condition of rooms needs updating. Stains on wallpaper of example. Front end staff friendly but some not to helpful. Rooms were cleaned well.
• Diana (6/5): - On the first night we arrive, the bathroom light kept blinking. Fortunately, the staff was very quick in fixing it. The amenities are lacking. The room (especially the mats) looked bare and a bit run down. There were also mosquitoes so I would prepare bug spray just in case. The hotel was really mediocre but I didn’t expect a lot based on the pictures and price. One great aspect of this hotel is its location. It’s very close to a metro station, 7-11, and many great restaurants. I was also surprised to find out it’s located in Japan’s Koreatown.
• Paul (6/5): Flying solo for a week. - Room size was standard for Tokyo, that is on the small side. Hard to find, but great location once you knew where it was, easy access to everything. 2 cab drivers had a lot of difficulty, even when I showed them the map location. Very run down property. Was a great price, otherwise dont know if I would stay again.
• Jose (10/5): - The hotel is quite old and the AC was not working well. We did eventually get the AC to work but the heat was overwhelming. We only stayed one night, and for the price, we could not complain too much.
• Verified traveler (8/5): - Empire hotel had everything you needed. It is basic but clean and quiet. For the price and being close to the metro and Korean area for food etc it is reasonably priced. I just had one gripe was when I asked a guy at the desk about best way to Narita he ignored me for a long time until I asked him if he was busy and then he wasn't very helpful. Maybe he didn't know or just couldn't be bothered helping.

The curtains did not block out the light pollution. The toilet seat underneath was dirty. The bathroom had a shower curtain (which is in hygienic in most cases), and no water drain outside the shower tub (all our other hotels had this).

• Jennifer (8/5): Great location - good service - I stayed in their second hotel - Blue Empire - 3 minutes from Empire. Clean rooms hot shower microwave washing machine. Staff were friendly and helpful. Try not to get room 206 or 207 - had a connecting door which allows far too much noise in from other room otherwise all is good. Great location - train station three minute walk. Plenty of restaurants in the area as is convenient shopping - milk meals etc you cannot in your room. I would stay again
• Verified traveler (10/5): - Hotel Empire is in such a great location. We have now stayed here on two seperate occasions and would recommend this to anyone. It is small but if you’re out doing things all day it doesn’t matter. The staff are such kind people and offered to help at all times.

• Anthony (8/5): In the heart of Shinjuku - This hotel was great,and right in the heart of Shinjuku. I stayed with two friends in a three bed room. The washroom was a bit cramped and the seats in the room had stains in them but overall the room was good. I would stay here again.

Bedroom was actually one of the biggest rooms I’ve had in all my visits to Tokyo (we were a family of three). Staff were friendly. Cons: hotel pretty old/run down- hote entance door doesn’t work and had to slide to open/close it, room walls had tape, shower curtain held by paper clips, bathroom/shower is smallest I’ve had (hard to maneuver without hitting something, even toilet you had to sit on tilt or sink would be in the way). Lastly, the staff- willing to help with most issues but night before leaving asked for a cab to be called to take us and luggage to Shinjuku train station. The employee took the time requested but when the time came the employee was sleeping in an office room and took us a few attempts to get him to the counter until he heard us banging on the counter and ran out. He called the cab company and stated it would be another 15 mins before arriving. He seemed pretty unsure when speak with the cab company mumbling and checking sheets of paper. We couldn’t trust relying on it due to time. We had to walk to the train with our luggage which isn’t convenient due to lack of elevator at that station.
• Verified traveler (10/5): - The receptionist was friendly and helpful. The room was clean and it came with all the basic amenities such as tooth brush, tooth paste, comb and razor. The toilet and the shower were clean. The free wifi was quite strong too. It was a bit of a walk from Shin-Okubo station but the area was great with many good food and shops. And not forgetting the nice onsen nearby!

But the water was hot in shower and had good flow. If you want something less expensive and in good area it is a good choice. It has the basics that you need. Nothing more.

• Zihan (4/5): Poor Facility, Long waiting hours to check in - Hotel staffs were nice, however the hotel facility were terrible. The door locks were spoilt, we end up waiting until 1am to check into the room.
• Alistair (6/5): Decent value for money hotel in Shinjuku - Best thing about the hotel is it's location. Close to pretty much everything Shinjuku has to offer (which, of course, is a lot !). Staff are friendly and helpful also.
• Ryan (8/5): 1 night stay in 3bd suite. - The hotel is nice, but the rooms may seem small by western standards since they are Japanese style. This was no issue for us in the 3 bed room. The only other thing I would say is checkout is a little odd since they just have an odd chute at the front for keys when you go. Staff spoke proficient English, but I also am able to get by with Japanese. Did not ask for any area information because we were only there one night. It is close to 2 train stations and was quiet when we stayed there. The wifi was a little difficult and the networks weren't all showing up. Would stay again, did enjoy the experience overall. :)

No WiFi Internet (5th floor) 2. Too tidy room(cannot close the door room if not properly shut the bathroom door) I cannot use WiFi since first day till last day. Hotel staff very nice to help with this problem but cannot do that much. The room photos when I booked exactly different from my trips Expensive room If compare with another hotel and nearby located. Ps. All hotel staff very nice and friendly.
• Noel (8/5): hotel empire, shin okubo - the location was great having been in the inside of a quiet community but very near the central hub and train station, it's like less than 100 steps away and you will be in the busy streets where the korean pop culture was in the air.
• Joseph (10/5): Pros and Cons - Great location. Near Shin-Okubo station, cheap eats and in Shinjuku! Would stay again. The light over our bed went out. We forgot to tell them. When we got home that night, it was fixed! Realize this is Japan, so rooms are Japan's standards not Western-size. Desk has limited English so use Goggle for directions. When arriving, recommend avoiding Shinjuku station, just too busy. Plus Shin Okubo is closer.

Problems: needs repainting and renovation (room), we set the card “pls make the room” at 9:30 one day and once we came back in the evening it was not done. In the hard interaction (thanks google translation) we understood the room service is only in the morning. They saw a “don’t disturb” and then mever checked. The toothbrush etc are rarely given
• Verified traveler (8/5): - The wifi was quite slow and not that stable, so ended up having to use my pocket wifi the whole time. Really close to the train station yet at a pretty quiet street which makes it nice. Only had one wall plug which was kind of inconvenient.
• Antonio (6/5): Served its purpose - It was my first time visiting Japan and I was coming from Osaka (2 nights) & Kyoto (3 nights) to Hotel Empire for the final 8 days of my trip. I was already in exploration mode and didn't plan to lounge around for a few hours before my next venue. Which meant I only needed a place to store my belongings, have a hot shower, and sleep. With that, Hotel Empire did the job. It's true that the facilities are getting old and the walls are hollow, the place is still clean for the most part. Any cigarette smell you may experience can be fixed by its reliable air conditioning. All the staff members were extremely friendly and can speak English. The best feature is that it's located next to 2 JR stations, okubo & shin-okubo.
• lynn (2/5): Terrible destroyed hotel - They Need To Add To Their Photos : The Holes in the Walls! , Dirty Walls and Falling Apart Bathroom, Dirty Sheets !!!! Lumpy Old Used Up Matress! !!! Cold Room !!! In order to be Accurate" and Not Be Deceived !!!! Terrible Disgusting Unclean Rooms Would Not Recommend This To Anyone ! Even on a Budget! Worse they refuse to let you change hotel without losing all your money . Of Course. Just Gross .

• celine (8/5): Great location - Hotel is located by two JR lines which is great for exploring Tokyo. It is also located on a quiet side street so you don't really hear traffic. Rooms are small for our standards but clean and comfy. Our only complaint is that housekeepers start early and their linen closets are very loud when opened. Also no bathroom plugins.

• Verified traveler (4/5): Cheap hotel - Hotel is a fair way down a dark alleyway which is a bit creepy. Staff make you hand in the key to them when you are gone, which is a huge security issue for me.
• preawie (8/5): Good location, with quiet environment - I had 2 nights stay as couple. The hotel is a bit old but the condition is still ok. They also have balcony at my room. The most preferable is the location which near JR Okubo and JR Shin-Okubo station, and walkable to Kabukicho in Shinjuku. Comparing to other hotel that I stayed in Hamacho and Nishi Azabu, the location is much more convenience. The staff are friendly and helpful.

• melody (6/5): Uncomfortable room but good location - The hotel is 2 blocks away from the JR SHIN OKUBO station. It is located in a little "alleyway" but there are plenty of stuff out on the Main Street. The hotel is quite small. We booked a room for 4 people and they gave us a "suite" on the ground floor. Once you enter the suite, there was a hallway and then a small square place with a clothing rack. The hallway branched off into the bathroom and two bedrooms. Once you enter the bathroom there were two doors and a sink. The faucet water was a bit salty. One door led to the showering room. There was a deep but short bathtub against the wall and a shower head on the other side meaning you don't stand in the tub but on the floor and the water would spray on the floor and go down the drain. I found that to be very complicated because it created a very wet environment and you couldn't place your towels or clothes in there or else it would get wet. The next door led to the toilet. There was a seat warmer that would get way too hot if you sat there for too long. bidet didn't work. One bedroom had a queen sized bed raised on a wooden platform, which had a crack in it. There was a tv and a mini fridge. Plenty of outlets for charging electronics. Huge window but not much to see outside. Other room was a tatami room. Sliding door, two single beds on the floor, mini tv, mini fridge. thought everything was randomly thrown together, nothing matched. Folded and gave us back a used wet towel after cleaning service.
• michelle (8/5): Good budget with potential - It's a budget hotel - great price - in a great location. It has potential to be much more with simply someone to oversee the cleaning- clean the ?coffee spills marks off the wall, scrub down the little plastic side white side table in the room or if the stains are permanent, replace it. The beds were very clean, mattresses firm and pillows flat-ish like in other Japanese accommodation we stayed in, but surprisingly comfortable so very pleasing. We had 2 rooms, both bathrooms adequately clean. The hotel is perfect for a 1-2 night stay. If the TVs could be hung on the wall to create a bit more space for suitcases, it would be good for longer stays. One of our rooms had the lock on the OUTSIDE of the bathroom door instead of the inside, and there are supplied toothbrushes, yukatas, towels etc - no frills, but not needed. Cute neighbourhood, great Thai restaurant a stone's throw away, and great Family Mart for coffee, food, alcohol, everything, just a tad further. A quick walk to Shin-Okubo station. Lovely, well-used shrine on the corner of the street. The office ladies took good care of luggage left until the new late checkin time of 4pm, and also left there the following day until we were ready to go to the airport. The cleaning lady was very sweet.
• Verified traveler (6/5): Sufficient Hotel - Only stayed for 5hours while transiting through. Good enough for family of 5 to rest. Too cold and didn't want to carry our bags around. Wish they had hourly rates. But it was the cheapest place for our family and close to the bus station.

• M (10/5): - Great hotel and staff. Great location too. Definitely would stay there again.
• Art (6/5): Nice and friendly staff but substandart hotel - Ok, it was not a luxuary business trip but rather backpacking around Japan and honestly not worth the $. Paid $85cad a night. While its might sound very reasonable for Tokyo, it was twice as much as a capsule hotel in better locations in Tokyo. Romm very very small - no complaints as it was expected , but- 1. Blanket, some WWII stule in 5 layers, the weight well above 10kg Im not making this up, it was heavier than hospiral xray wests, just crazy). 2. No tee no coffee. 3. No shaving foam. 4. Drinking water dispenser in the lobby but no cups, you have to gind ur own empty plastic bottles etc. 5. Tv some 7 chanels all in Japanese (no cnn dw or any other intl. Channell). While u may look separately on each of the above points and say - not a big deal; I am putting it in comparison with capsule hotels where all the above is included for 50% of the price. If i would be talking about latin america , I would not even expect anything from the above; however for Japan all of the above are in any capsules and anything less is a real substandart. Location is good. If u r travelling as a cpl. U msy use the place just for overnight crash, but as a single- no point.
• Jonathan (4/5): Budget Hotel With Good Location - We stayed on the fifth floor in the corner room and had a cool corner balcony. The room was very basic, only had 2 power outlets, so we had to unplug the TV to charge our electronic devices. Room was very small, it had AC, small fridge, TV and a desk. Not much desk space. Found it pretty weird that we had to leave our room key at the reception every time we went out. Best part was the location because it is located very close walking distance to a JR station.

• Verified traveler (6/5): Cozy hotel - Cozy little hotel right in the middle of Shinjuku-ku, close to rail station and plenty of fun places to visit and eat. If you are a tall person over 6 foot, this is not the hotel for you. Otherwise very comfy with AC and T.V..
