• NormTravelYounger (4/5): I suggest you skip this hotel - We planned to stay there for 2 weeks but the room was not what we expected. It was musty with an air conditioning unit that broke the night we arrived. It was repaired, but due to my wife's allergies we had to vacate sooner. The service varied from very poor when we arrived since they seemed very disinterested, but when we needed repair work done they were quite attentive, and they seemed understanding of our need to leave early and to approve a refund of our money. (See below) The location is good, very close to many restaurants and street food alley. There are no refrigerators in the room which is a problem for us since we are full-time travelers and planned to stay for longer. There is one tiny refrigerator for the entire hotel which was a problem for us. UPDATE: after telling me that they would refund our money and only charge us for one day, they did not allow Airbnb to credit us back our money. Airbnb got involved, so this hotel tried to stiff us. I have since changed my opinion and my rating due to their untrusting follow through.
• marinemw (8/5): Clean & Friendly Hotel, great location - Clean and friendly hotel close to Alor st (Food st), Bukit Bintang in central KL. Go for the larger sized rooms and they are very reasonable and equipped. Great staff 😃 I've stayed here many times over the last 7yrs 👍
• NekasOlo (4/5): Disappointed Stay - Location is good. Close to shopping mall, eatery & pub. Rooms are spacious and clean. But the hotel is running down. Dated bathroom setting. Old furniture. Noisy Street. No safety box in room. With the price tag of USD 45 a night. I believe you can easily get a better place to stay.

• Jonathan (10/5): Good Stay & Great Location in Bukit Bintang - Easy to walk around Bukit Bintang, it’s next to Jalan Alor Food Street, near to Bukit Bintang Changkat Street Bar. A short distance to Pavillion Shopping Mall, close by public transportation (MRT, Go KL Free bus shuttle and Monorail Station. The room was good, staff are friendly. Will stay this hotel again.
• Verified traveler (4/5): Near the bar street - The pictures provided on the profile are not an accurate representation of the actual facility. Creaky wooden floors, thin walls so you can hear everything your neighbors are doing. The cups looked like they had not been washed in a while, room smelled of cigarette smoke, toilet made a horrendous noise when flushed and to top it all off, the tv didn't work (just diskotek-like static). Would not stay there again nor recommend to anyone unless there is an extreme desire to feel uncomfortable.
• Eric (4/5): - Hotel Rae's location is fantastic, tucked away among some of the hot spots (Jalan Alor, several malls, nightlife) in KL. However, most of the advantages stop there. This is a rundown, budget hotel. I'm usually fine with that type of thing, but the reviews don't tell the whole story, and I'm actually surprised the things that people leave out. When we checked in, the lobby and exterior were a bit outdated, but nothing to get worked up about. The front-desk clerk was amazing, offering quick check-in and advice about places in the area, travel, etc. The problem was when I leaned to my right and saw a small sign, outlining prices for hourly stays. Then it hit me. This is a hotel that caters not only to budget travelers, but to women of ill-repute and their solicitors. Well, maybe it's an outdated sign, I thought. Wrong. When we went to our room, people were having loud sex next door. I didn't enjoy it quite as much as they did. The room had gray-white towels, mold on ceiling in bathroom, soiled floors, stained sheets, and reeked of fresh cig. WARNING: DESPITE THIS PLACE CALLING ITSELF "NON-SMOKING," IT IS ASSUREDLY FULL SMOKING. EVERYWHERE. From experience, you may want to ask about non-smoking in mid-range to budget hotels in Malaysia because many guests tend to ignore the non-smoking rules. The Internet sucked! • xiangjuns2001 (10/5): Good Location & Friendly Hotel - The hotel was cheap and comfortable, definitely worth it. However, the bathroom was not so clean, but the room was good & spacious. There is easy access. It has great connectivity, it is located near Bukit Bintang station of the Monorail Line which goes to KL Sentral and connects with the KLIA Ekspress and KLIA. Transit which both go to KLIA and klia2. I would definitely go back again.

I had to change my room because of a broken air con and it was no biggie at all to provide me another room within a few minutes....perfect & good wifi connection.... • krokodil6969 (2/5): Give it a BIg miss .!! - Wow , I travel a lot ... but this is not budget , it's small, noisy , dirty , brothel !! I don't normally complain but , this is not a good nights sleep ... itch all over from bedlice , very very noisy street noise , rooms rented by the hour so doors slamming at 2 in the morning ... arguments between hookers and clients in the passage .... definitely not a couple or family stay .
• KarenInSF (6/5): Wouldn't stay again as a solo female traveler - The good things about this hotel were the location and Nancy, who was so helpful and kind. The wifi worked fairly well too. But as a solo female traveler I wouldn't come back. My first night here something incredibly frightening happened. I was sleeping and another guest was mistakenly given my room number. When his key card didn't work in my door (thank goodness) he started banging on the door screaming to let him in. I yelled from my bed that he had the wrong room and then he began banging on the door harder and screaming even louder. I was terrified hoping he wouldn't be able to open the door. I called down to the front desk and the night manager came up to show him his correct room. But that didn't immediately stop the screaming so I called the front desk again. At that point the night manager told me that it had been handled. But it wasn't handled. Finally the screaming stopped and (I presume) the other guest went to his correct room. But it was so scary. The next day I talked to the general manager about this situation and she promised to review the video camera. Later that night another strange man knocked on my door. I left the next morning. I simply don't think this hotel is a safe choice for a solo female traveler.
• thatkiwiguy2014 (10/5): The best Hotel in Kl - After a long flight in to Kl and a rough start we find our selves in search of a bed and air con to rest as ng a local driver to point us towards hotel RAE we trip in to the Bukit Bintang Area bright lights and hundreds of massages. We arrive at Hotel Rae with Nancy on board to welcome us with a huge smile after she gave us the room key off upstairs we go Air-conditioning nice cool water cold in the fridge what more can u ask for in the Heat of Kl room was super Clean all the staff fantastic so good we will return in 2 months to do it all Again this Hotel Is Cheap on price but not on Quality Fun Warm Welcomes Safe and a great nights rest booked 4 nights stayed 12 that's how great Hotel Rae was
• Sally Lee (8/5): Excellent Location & Pleasant Stay - Location is pretty good. Two streets from Jalan Alor Night Market. A couple minutes walk to the monorail and shuttle bus station. I loved the customer service & friendliness of the staff. Wifi connection is very effective.

Fridge in room didn't work; when I called the guy who answered said it's just a cooler. No coolers I know of have a dial on the inside to adjust the temperature or have a plug to plug in 2. The pipes to the sink screamed it you turned it off in a certain way 3. On arrival they said they were upgrading us for free. I don't like when they do this because you are never really sure if they actually are or if they just want to make you feel special. It that was the upgrade I'm afraid to see the one we booked.

If you are a simple backpack traveller who is price sensitive, this hotel will do the job for you. All the basic amenities that you expect from a budget hotel would be provided.

• Lolly187 (6/5): Nothing special - Be sure to request a room with a window! We felt like we were staying in what should have been the maintenence cupboard! The room needs a bit of a makeover and the air con needs some TLC. The room wasnt spotlessly clean (long black stray hairs here and there, have found this in most hotels in Malaysia though) but it did the job for a few budget nights. Overall, fab location, good TV channels, and pleasant, helpful staff.
• nbnk13 (6/5): So-so - Small room, not so clean but ok, no lift just stairs. poor tv channels, lousy sound from wherever. price not too high for high season. good location, easy to find. near shopping site, near china town, near air asia bukit bintang and imbi monorail stations. there're 3 routes of GoKL passing by bukit bintang so we can use free bus to go to almost every landmark in the city. Overall , its good for backpackers but not for family.
• Abbud-nz (8/5): Good for one or Two nights. - I stayed here for the second time, one night only, It was clean room and clean bath room. quiet room, I had a good sleep. really cheap, I paid RM79. The best thing about this hotel is the location. Its located in the heat of the city, in middle of tens on food options, one minute walk to Jalan Alor. I will use this place again for my one night stop overs.
• Zamzam Shah (6/5): A hotel worth your penny - I like the location of the hotel which is in heart of Bukit Bintang. It's near clubs, cafes, restaurants that serve Western, Middle Eastern, Asian and authentic Malaysian food!

Then I got my room and it was so small you could barely walk in. The sheets and towels were dirty. The Air conditioning barely worked. I would never stay again.

• Dr_Rishad_C_Robin (8/5): Good Budget Hotel - I have stayed here from 30th April to 6th May 2016. This is 3rd time I had stayed at this hotel. the room was good and also the service. I stayed at deluxe double (room 002) and my parents stayed Triple bed room (Room 027) which were comfortable. As my flight was deleted for 12 hours I shifted to standard room for the last day. But standard room was not that much clean. Bathroom was not good as deluxe room and bed sheet has stain. The receptionists ware very helpful and cooperative. All restaurants are nearby. If you want a budget hotel I recommended the hotel.
• RichytNZ (6/5): Centrally located in Bukit Bintang - The rooms in this hotel are pretty average but have all required amenities. (TV, Fridge? Older style hotel. Whilst not modern the bathroom is roomy and functional Hotel does not have free breakfast but many cafes and kopitiam located close by.
• hikesart (2/5): Nice rooms but very noisy - It seemed like the only decent place in the city. We had a room which was fresh but without a window, all the other rooms with windows smelled like feet. The staff was very nice but it seems like the the owner only cares about money. For 4 days neighbours were making noise until 7 am in the morning although they have a rule board that states to keep quiet after 10 pm. We talked to the reception several times but nothing happened. People go there to party, they keep the doors open, stay in the corridor and smoke in the room....I will never go there again.
• TabrezBiman (2/5): Worst!!! Get away from this hotel - Been in this hotel last night. Only location is good. All others are terrible. Bed sheet cover and blanket cover dirty. Towels are marked and that Color was on our body. I booked online. When I came they showed I booked online in higher price whereas that room is 118 nett inclusive all. I booked through booking.com and it was excluded vat and service charge which I didn't notice. And it's a room without window and bla bla. So he offered me superior room with more 10 Rm payment. Okay I agreed on 148 Rm. it was not worth 50 RM. ac doesn't work good. TV channel is 13 only. Wifi is poor and every after ten minutes I had log back in. Water heater faulty which they should have tell earlier. I was almost got burnt. Because when you just rotate the knob water flows which is like boiling water for 5-10 seconds. Then normal warm water flows. High rules and strictly followed. But in rooms they allow ladyboys I saw last night. No water glasses provides. I asked for 2 glass they give thin paper cup. Towels written marked by marker and Color gets out when wet.

• Robert (2/5): Do not even consider....... - This was the most Discuisting room i have ever stayed in. Yes it was good value.... But for the same price there are a multitude of hotels in the same area. Also when we were looking for a hotel we had included Free parking on the search. This hotel is NOT Free parking. You will pay. The room was just a giant Ashtray. The 100 year old carpet was just a sick and ash festival.

• Neil (2/5): Worst hotel i have ever been to. - Don't be fooled by pics on web site this place is disgusting, my room had not been cleaned, red stains on sheets, i slept on top of bed i couldn't sleep in it. Chewing gum stuck to wall, all walls filthy, carpet stained badly. A/C very low quality, fridge did not work. Tv had no remote control.Staff were unhelpful and gave the impression that they could not care less. They ask for deposit for safe dep key then look at you strangely when you ask for it back, weird. There are many hotels in this area which are better for less money.
