Guest Reviews
- Peter (9/5): Beautiful top-rating hotel in the best location. - Excellent hotel which comes at quite an expense, but is a real treat for a "splurge". Great location for walking to significant sites, spoilt for choice with tapas bars/restaurants (small ones the best), and staff extremely helpful for anything you need. Special call out to Carla in Concierge who was a delight. Realistically the hotel is a 10, but the high cost brings it down a point. If we had to be picky, wardrobe space not huge (meant living out of a suitcase), including not able to hang long dresses. Clearly, this did not detract from the stay.
- Alexandra (9/5): A pice of gem - Ambiente, silencioso, detallistas.
- Frederic (1/5): Horrible - Rien Tout
- Laurent (4/5): Décevant pour un hôtel très cher - Décoration propreté Personnel froid et proposition non conforme au prix la piscine et le rooftop étaient en travaux
- Isana (9/5): - Rooms are specious, beds are comfortable. Very quiet. Very helpful and friendly staff, going extra mile. 1. Pool was under maintenance and it was no information in advance. The hotel should have offered some 'making up' gesture e.g., free breakfast, bottle of wine to the room etc.
2. Although breakfast was great, it could increase selection of healthy options like seeds, chia, avocado, etc.
- 820grantr (10/5): The Mercer Barcelona ***** - This hotel is a must. Absolute 5-star hotel with professional and gracious staff. The food was not only great, the presentation was superb. And right in the middle of the Gothic quarter. Perfect location. Would not stay anywhere else. Thank you to everyone at this wonderful hotel.
- Trisha (10/5): Loved everything about this hotel from the staff to quiet rooms to ambience. - Loved the area-gothic quarter- super clean and cool interior design/architecture Nothing really except maybe the pillows being to thin
- anne (9/5): - Overall perfect Service on the roofterras, pool without water
- Daniela (5/5): -
- dougsM8517BK (10/5): Awesome Experience - Everything was top flight. Awesome.
- Joshua (6/5): - Location was good. Sadly, the swimming pool, the main reason for booking, was not available, it would have been great to be made aware re maintenance during that time period. Also telephone to reception did not work in my room unfortunately, meaning having to go up and down persistently. The people generally were nice and helpful, just with the price and 5 star aspect rating, the overall an experience was likely a 3.5 to a 4
- scottgeorge (6/5): Not sure where all the praise comes from. - I rented 5 rooms here for 2 nights last week and was surprised by the ranking it is given on here.
The ground floor where the reception, restaurant and bars are was often unattended but the reception staff were very nice.. This despite them trying to charge me for our stays even though we had already paid before arrival.
The rooms are a reasonable size but are quite basic and all come with an open plan bathroom but feels but budget in appearance and usability! The showers all have this ridiculous floor that is uneven and a trip hazard - i thought it was just my room but all rooms had it and when reported to reception they did nothing.
Most rooms views basically face onto a brick wall.
It sells itself as a hotel with a roof pool which we all wanted to attend, but upon arrival the pool area was taped off and empty.
Not sure i would return.
- Maiorano (9/5): - Servizio eccelente La posizione del hotel
- kswstoryteller (10/5): Exclusive Hotel with Great Location - Exclusive boutique hotel located in Gothic quarter adjacent to the old Roman wall. Superb location and knowlegeable, personal staff. Modern architecture and great pillows and beds. Could have used more access to plugs and better lighting in bathroom area. Lovely hotel and would return again
- Sara (8/5): Nel complesso molto postivo - La posizione e la particolarità della struttura La colazione non ha soddisfatto le aspettative
- Scott (4/5): -
- SCS44 (10/5): Great stay at the Mercer Barcelona - The Mercer Barcelona is a lovely hotel in a great location.
The service was very attentive overall, breakfast delicious.
We would stay there again.
Caveat, if a gym is important to you during you stay, this is probably not the place for you. There is no gym on the property.

There were some positive aspects to this hotel, but their billing practices were so predatory that they overshadow everything else—and that’s what I’m focusing on here.
Do not book a nonrefundable room at this property.
I reserved four nights at approximately €500+ per night. Within a couple of hours, I realized I had mistakenly booked for July instead of June, when we actually needed the stay. I immediately called the hotel to correct the error. They informed me they had no availability in June. When I explained that I had caught the mistake within hours—and pointed out that they still had three months to rebook the July dates—I asked if a refund could be issued. The answer was an unequivocal no delivered with unnecessary coldness.
Faced with losing €2,000, my husband and I felt forced to plan an entirely separate four-day trip just to use the reservation. To make matters worse, when we rebooked for April, the hotel increased the rate by €200 per night.
At no point was there any gesture of goodwill—no partial accommodation, no flexibility, not even a small concession like complimentary breakfast. Even more disappointing was the tone of the staff throughout the process, which felt dismissive and unnecessarily harsh.
Proceed with extreme caution when booking here. Even if your travel plans seem certain, pay extra for a refundable option. This experience showed a clear lack of flexibility and customer consideration.

- Malcolm (8/5): 5 star - Staff amazing , Breakfast outstanding Shower
- sammarta (8/5): - Architettura edificio Personale della Hall (poco empatico e non ha rilasciato alcun documento di spesa) e della colazione (poco garbato)
- Natascha (10/5): Es ist ein Geheimtip - alles Das Sternerestaurant ist etwas too much.
- Wanderer08440541816 (10/5): A hidden hotel jem in the Gothic Quarte - The Mercer Hotel, what an amazing hotel and the staff are lovely. Thank you for a wonderful short stay.
- Maria (8/5): Nice hotel in an old beautiful building but overpriced - We stayed in a junior suite and it was very roomy.
The old building is beautiful and charming The the room was very dark and the lights need some redesign. We could not open the shade over our french balcony ( we asked for assistance) so the room was always very dark.
We waited almost 2 hours for the food at the Bristo but the food was good.

- Birdylifton (10/5): Best staff ever - This is a truly fabulous hotel and a 5 star experience. Boutique , with parts of the building going back to Roman times, the place simply oozes character and it’s in the heart of the Gothic quarter so the position could not be better. The rooms are excellent ,the Breakfast outstanding but what makes it the best place is the staff who are all amazing. This place helped make our stay in Barcelona one of our favourite city breaks.

- Natasha20B (10/5): Perfection - Perfect location, quiet hotel with very attentive staff. Rooms feel luxurious, with very comfy beds (we both slept so well!). We used the terrace too, which was well maintained and the perfect sun trap for a quiet moment. Room service menu was small, but the food was very tasty and they had very efficient service! As there aren’t many rooms, it was a peaceful hotel where we rarely “bumped” into guests - a calm space inside a busy city!
10/10, we will be visiting again.
- Lauren (4/5): -
- Natasha (10/5): Perfection - Perfect location, quiet hotel with attentive staff. Room service was quick, and just what we needed. 10/10, will return.

- macallan (8/5): amazing staff and hotel, change the mattresses - Location is excellent, staff was absolutely amazing, food was excellent and fairly priced. Breakfast extraordinary. Hot water in shower. Clean rooms. The only negative was that of 24 people in our group 12 had beds that had huge troughs. The mattresses need to be replaced!
- AnnieYoderSmith (10/5): Wonderful experience - Loved everything about this hotel! Location was great. Quiet yet lots of charm. The hotel staff was so friendly and helpful. Highly recommend!

- lillysD2859AZ (10/5): Family Trip Barcelona - The best hotel ever!! The staff is so helpful, kind, and attentive. We had the best time. The lobby and rooms are so clean and spacious. Mauro was the best concierge. He gave us great recommendations. He was so friendly and funny. All of the staff is hardworking and friendly. I really recommend this place. Great location too.
- S6603VHbenjamins (10/5): Best hotel in Barcelona - It was a very good hotel. It is in a very good area and the hotel staff is amazing. 10/10 would recommend.
- W8182HSkiml (10/5): Truly one of a kind! - We absolutely had the best experience at this hotel! As soon as you walk into the hotel, we were greeted right away and had exemplary service from check in to check out. With only 28 rooms, a rooftop pool, and a gorgeous seating area in the lobby, we truly felt at peace and well looked after. The rooms are spacious with lots of windows to let the fresh air in. The bed was the most comfortable I've ever slept in! Pillows fabulous, European soft sheets. Excellent location. Highly highly recommend d this hotel. Thank you!

- Maria (6/5): “I missed the personal touch expected from a five-star boutique hotel, and since I didn’t experience it, I would not ret - I really liked the quiet location and the very comfortable bed. The hotel had a rather dark atmosphere, and our room faced other buildings rather than a pleasant view. Some of the food was greasier than expected for example, the steak arrived more well-done than requested, and the potatoes were quite oily. The bar felt a bit impersonal.
At the end of our stay, we arranged a taxi to the airport through the hotel. The car was a standard, very dirty taxi, with an unusually high starting fee. After a long discussion with the driver and consulting the reception, I still felt unfairly treated. This part of the stay was very unpleasant, and I believe it could be improved by providing a clean and comfortable car for guests.”

- simona (10/5): - Struttura storica ma ristrutturata molto bene con servizi ottimi Poca luce
- Scenic04439605431 (10/5): Bellisimo - Most amazing stay in the coolest part of the gothic quarter . Can’t wait to come back and enjoy the beautiful rooms and service that we experienced.
- Josef (10/5): - The people service that Mercer hotel provided was quite exquisite - e.g. they help with your luggage to the main street (5 mins from hotel) or bring sweets free of charge as a welcoming gift.
The location of hotel is in the best part of the city - close to metro/beach/park, not overly turisty, full of small independent shops and cafes.
- Sharon Fisher (9/5): - Great Location on the Gothic Area, good access to all the city sighthenings.
Room was quiet , very clean.
Staff was very nice and welcoming , our requests for Eraly check in and Late check out were nicely accepted. Shower in the room was scary, moving plates at the bottom pf the shower, which made you being carefull not to slip.
also, the water was not hot.
Pillows were uncomfortable
- roR5012BI (10/5): Wonderful stay at the Mercer Hotel, Barcelona - We visited Barcelona twice in March 2026 and, each time, stayed at the Mercer Hotel. The location was terrific, staff were very helpful and rooms clean and well-maintained. We really enjoyed our stay. We opted for including breakfast with our room and the meal and service were both excellent.
- amycI778QS (10/5): Barcelona 2026 - This hotel was wonderful! Central to everything in the Gothic Quarter. Easy access to metro and walking around the city to see the sights. Incredible service and friendly staff made our visit relaxing. The fresh towels and little treats at night were our favorite!
- Ralf (10/5): -
- andrewwV4661NU (10/5): Wonderful boutique hotel in central Barcelona. - A wonderful boutique hotel, with excellent service. The hotel is ideally located to see much of Barcelona on foot. We had a really lovely four day stay and will definitely return.
- G8470MVaarona (10/5): Very Welcoming - From the moment we arrived we experiences a really attentive, caring, and welcoming staff. Place is also very nice and clean. Highly recommend!!
- Bahar (10/5): - Exceptional service, 100/100
- jmtquigley (10/5): Wonderful Stay! - The Mercer Hotel in Barcelona was my home for 4 nights while I was visiting my 20 year old son who is studying in Barcelona this semester. The property is beautiful but what really makes this hotel stand out is the staff. Each person encountered was friendly, helpful and just lovely. I was escorted to cabs and even walked to my next hotel without touching my luggage (a convention in town made me move hotels bc Mercer did not have space my last night). My 20 year old daughter joined me for the weekend and came home very late (morning!) after clubbing with her twin brother and the staff were kind to her. Most importantly we both felt very safe around the hotel at all hours. Breakfast is scrumptious. My only complaint is that the room was quite dark but it is built in Roman ruins and the cost of being in a beautiful historic building is that light is not plentiful.

- thomassR5833HA (10/5): We had an absolutely unforgettable stay at the Mercer Hotel Barcelona. - From the very first moment, the welcome was warm, elegant and genuinely thoughtful. The staff made us feel special right away, and that feeling stayed throughout our entire stay. A huge thank you to the whole team for their kindness and professionalism.
The location is simply incredible. Right in the heart of the Gothic Quarter, yet peaceful and refined — it doesn’t get better than this. Everything is within walking distance, and stepping out of the hotel feels like walking into history.
The hotel itself is stunning. The décor perfectly blends historic architecture with modern sophistication. Every detail feels intentional, refined and timeless.
Our room was perfect. Beautifully designed, extremely comfortable, and the beds were outstanding — we slept incredibly well every night.
A special thank you to the concierge team for their exceptional attention and care in helping organize my proposal to my girlfriend. Their thoughtful touch made the moment even more magical and truly unforgettable. It meant a lot to us.
If you’re looking for a romantic, elegant and perfectly located hotel in Barcelona, the Mercer is simply the best choice. We can’t wait to come back.
- Flyer07503040232 (10/5): Beautiful - Exceptional staff in every way. Great location in the gothic area with easy walking access to everything. My only wish is they had a gym inside of the building. Aside from that this experience was exceptional and I will stay there again.

- twodivers (10/5): A Wonderful Luxury Yet Local Barcelona Hotel - A very lovely and chic five star boutique hotel in a historic building on a quiet, mostly pedestrian street in the Gothic Quarter with exceptionally attentive and helpful staff. Rooms are very quiet, with plenty of space and super comfortable beds. Great walk in shower (both rain shower and hand-held options) with lots of hot water, bath products by Italian luxury firm Etro and plenty of large, fluffy towels.
We ate twice at the hotel tapas bar and really enjoyed the food/drinks and especially the excellent service and banter from server Antoine. There is also a gastronomic restaurant that looks beautiful and serves a breakfast buffet though we did not eat there. The rooftop bar was closed during January during our stay but Antoine gallantly brought us drinks and snacks there so we could enjoy the sunset view.
Concierge service is highly accommodating. Carla helped arrange a terrific private car service to help us navigate both Figueres (for the not-to-be-missed Dali Museum) and Girona (for the amazing medieval historic center) all in one day.
The location is excellent and we walked to many great bars, restaurants, shops and historic churches in the Gothic Quarter and El Born neighborhoods. There is also a large food market just a few minutes walk from the hotel (Mercat de la Boqueria, open Monday through Saturday until 8:30 PM) - well worth a visit to peruse the amazing selection of local meats/cheeses/produce and enjoy freshly prepared tapas and drinks at the bar/restaurants in the festive atmosphere. For sights further afield we easily caught taxis on the nearby commercial street.
One thing to be aware of is that the street the hotel is on (like almost all streets in the Gothic Quarter) is very narrow and not all vehicles can or are willing to manage it. However, our taxi from the airport was able to deliver us right to the front door, and the hotel arranged a taxi for our return that also picked us up at the front door. And as mentioned, taxis can easily be hailed from a nearby commercial street and when returning to the hotel, taxis will drop you a block or two away - only quick walk back to the hotel.
This was our second visit to the Mercer and will definitely stay there again on our next visit(s).

- Wayfarer62 (10/5): January break - The hotel was lovely and charming. The staff were welcoming, friendly, and accommodating. Our flight home was canceled due to winter storm Fern . The staff couldn’t do enough for us to help make our situation better. I appreciated it.
- sashak303 (10/5): We have had an Amazing stay here ! - We absolutely loved our stay at the Mercer Hotel. From the moment we arrived, the service was warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming. The hotel itself is stunning — beautifully designed with a perfect balance of modern comfort and historic charm. Our room was spacious, quiet, and thoughtfully appointed, making it the ideal retreat after a day of exploring the city.
- 19briang (10/5): A very good hotel - It was a pleasant experience. Rooms were comfortable, staff were very friendly and professional, location was perfect.
It was one of the best hotels I have ever stayed in.
Definitely 10/10
- philippegI4203FM (10/5): Excellent stay in the heart of the city: comfortable hotel, responsive service, and high‑quality restaurants. - The stay was very pleasant. The hotel is located in the heart of the town, and its restaurants are also excellent. The staff were attentive to our needs. Our room was clean, spacious and well‑heated.
- Theodosia (10/5): Fabulous hotel with a great staff in every part of the hotel. - The hotel itself is beautiful. It's a sophisticated mix of modern elegance and Gothic quarter style. The staff is excellent and we're extremely helpful when we needed help due to my son having injured his leg.
- ROSANGELA LUCINA (10/5): - Localização e cortesia da equipe. Nada.
- evanaN8800JD (10/5): Favorite hotel in Barcelona - Certainly the best hotel in Barcelona, and one of the best hotel experiences in the world. First class service, rooms, maintenance, food and drink. The location in the gothic quarter is perfect: quiet, accessible, easily walkable to many restaurants and attractions. An amazing experience overall.
- fuentess2026 (10/5): A Quiet, Intentional Stay in the Gothic Quarter - I did a trip with my aunt through Lisbon, Madrid, and Barcelona, and Mercer Hotel Barcelona was my favorite hotel of the entire trip.
The environment is calm, quiet, and very intentional. I don’t enjoy hotels that feel flashy, overcrowded, or overwhelming, and Mercer was the complete opposite. The lighting is dim and warm, the energy is relaxed, and everything feels thoughtfully designed. It fits perfectly into its location in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter, tucked away on small streets and blended into the historic surroundings.
The hotel has a beautiful lobby, a small bar and restaurant, a Michelin-star restaurant on site, and a stunning library where I worked both nights. The rooftop is also lovely, with a pool and a peaceful atmosphere (too cold to use in January, but still worth seeing).
The rooms were extremely comfortable, with mostly hard floors and just a small rug — ideal if you don’t like fully carpeted rooms. The staff was kind and helpful without being overbearing.
There’s no gym, but the area is so walkable that it wasn’t an issue at all. I would absolutely stay here again.
- alex2013998 (10/5): Excellent boutique hotel in top location. - Small boutique hotel ,very quiet despite location in very touristy part of Barcelona. Room elegantly designed. Outstanding breakfast (restaurant was closed during our stay). Welcome with a bottle of cava reserva.
- Alexander (10/5): -
- Andrews (9/5): EXCELLANT!!! - The property location was excellent. It is very clean and contemporary while keeping the charm of the original stone work. Staff are very friendly. All in all I highly recommend this hotel.
- O4061QTpaula (10/5): EXCELLANT!!! One of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. - We had a fantastic stay at the Mercer Hotel in Barcelona’s Gothic Quarter. This was a last-minute booking after we left another hotel at check-in due to problems with the room, so it really rescued our trip.
After such a bad start, we have no doubt that staying at the Mercer completely turned things around. The staff are genuinely warm and friendly and really can’t do enough to help — it makes a huge difference.
The hotel itself is beautiful, with a modern feel while still keeping the original stone walls, which gives it real character. Our Junior Suite was a great size, very well laid out, and spotlessly clean, with great attention to detail.
The location is also perfect. The hotel is tucked away in the heart of the Gothic Quarter and is just minutes from the main areas, restaurants, and sights, making it incredibly easy to get around while still feeling calm and quiet.
This is easily one of the best hotels I’ve stayed in. A big thank you to Mario and the rest of the team for making our stay so comfortable. We will definitely be staying here again on our next trip to Barcelona.
- Expedition802056 (10/5): Magical Christmas Stay 2025 - I cannot say enough good things about this hotel. Not only is it beautiful, quiet, in a perfect location in the gothic quarter, but the service from ALL of the staff was exceptional. From the breakfast staff, to room attendants to front desk- notably Stephano and Luca!! We stayed in the terrace room - large, comfortable bed, great amenities , beautiful view. The morning breakfast was something we looked forward to every day. Even though it rained the majority of our trip we still had an amazing time which speaks to this hotel! We’ll definitely be back. 5 stars!!

- CSNY83 (8/5): A Great Boutique Hotel - The Mercer is a beautiful hotel in a great location in the Bari Gotic. It is a great choice for any visitor. We did have a few items to point out, however. In our junior suite (1) the bathroom lighting was poor, (2) the toilet seat was uncomfortably narrow (is this a style thing? It really doesn't work), and (3) the shower floor consists of plastic floor pieces that wobble as you step across them, making it very precarious if you aren't careful. A guest should also note that taxis generally won't drive to the front of the hotel as it is on a narrow alley, so you will have to walk a few blocks with your luggage to get there. Well worth it though. The hotel can arrange for to pick you up in front of the hotel, however.
- Sherpa00432665777 (10/5): Perfect Stay in Barcelona - A fantastic experience! Mercer Hotel Barcelona offers the perfect blend of elegance, tranquility, and exceptional service. Beautiful rooms, attentive staff, and a truly magical atmosphere. We would return without hesitation!
- kikit2018 (10/5): Perfect boutique luxury hotel - My husband and I stayed here for our 7th year anniversary. The location was a little tricky to find at first because it’s in the heart of the gothic quarter but the front desk and concierge were SO helpful once we arrived. They sent someone to meet us and personally guide us there. Otherwise the location was perfect for getting around the city. We walked everywhere. So many nice restaurants and museums including the MOMA Barcelona were within a 10 min walk. The hotel and room were absolutely gorgeous and felt so luxurious. The food at the restaurant and tapas bar were top tier. I recommend adding the breakfast to your stay
- kberge2019 (10/5): Gothic Quarter Charming! - We wanted to stay in the Gothic Quarter on our return visit to Barcelona and after much research chose The Mercer. It was a perfect pick! The hotel was exactly what we wanted--on a charming twisty street and perfectly appointed. Great staff and wonderful little bar and restaurant. Loved our cozy room and highly recommend!
- Traveler770100 (10/5): Perfect stay in a wonderful city - The Mercer Hotel was absolutely an incredible stay. Located between the Gothic Quarter and El Born districts, you’ll find anywhere you need to visit within a comfortable walking distance. Coming from the states, we can confidently say we felt very safe at all hours of the day and even night staying in this area. The staff was super welcoming, never too busy to help us with anything we needed. The room was spacious and with lovely big windows and juliette balconies, and always very clean and nice. 100% will be staying here when we return. No notes Mercer Hotel, thank you!
- S748TJbethg (10/5): Wonderful stay at the Mercer Hotel in Barcelona - We had an amazing family stay at the Mercer Hotel. The staff was exceptionally friendly—warm, attentive, and always ready to help with anything we needed. Their kindness made the whole experience feel personal and relaxed.
We arrived to a handwritten note, delicious desserts, and a fresh rose in our room, which was such a thoughtful welcome. The rooms were beautiful and comfortable, and the location in the Gothic Quarter was perfect for exploring.
A memorable stay thanks to the incredible staff—highly recommended.

- KMurphy920 (10/5): Mercer Hotel is well worth it!! - The hotel is quite lovely with a very friendly staff. Mario’s was top notch. He was always available with a smile and ready to help. The roomed are nice. The common areas are great. I highly recommend!

- petersS4896ZE (10/5): Beautiful hotel in amazing quiet area - We had an amazing time at the Mercer hotel.. the hotel is located in a super quiet and fascinating part of the gothic quarter and the hotel is gorgeous.. very convenient to everything ( subway, food, entertainment ) yet it feels peaceful and serene. Most importantly. the staff is incredible.. I highly recommend it.
- kevinsJ8540VY (10/5): Go for Gothic - A lovely place in the heart of the Gothic Quarter nestled INSIDE a Roman wall ruin. The staff is friendly and helpful to say the least. They made excellent recommendations for dinner and made reservations. The hotel is just a block or so from a major tube stop so coming and going to different parts of the city was extremely easy. Two thumbs up!!!
- Laura (10/5): Amazing attention to details and the perfect Barcelona location - The staff is amazing and the rooms are quiet and luxurious- the location is the best!
- User754 (10/5): A charming hotel in the Gothic Quarter - This is a fabulous boutique hotel in the Gothic Quarter of Barcelona. We stayed here for 4 nights in late October. This was our first visit to Barcelona and the hotel and staff in particular exceeded our expectations. As a tourist, the Gothic Quarter is an ideal location - it has lots of restaurants and bars, many with tables outside and is largely pedestrianised. Even in October, Barcelona is busy with tourists, but the hotel provides an excellent escape from the crowds.

- G (10/5): The staff, the historic building and great location made the trip. - The staff were amazing. The building was really interesting and the location was great. There wasn’t a lot of space for my clothes and toiletries. The shower in the main section of the room was odd.

Friendly- professional staff from the minute we entered the front door until we checked out. Our breakfast was the best we have had in one month of travel throughout Europe! The hotel is beautiful and the location is perfect for exploring the city. We will definitely be back to stay. Thank you!
