Guest Reviews
- Lee (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): Amazing stay and an upgrade was amazing - Immaculate and luxury Nothing it was perfect
- Paul (10/5): - Beautiful room, great facilities and lovely staff,
- Lynette (10/5): Stay at The Star - The Star was a great location and a great place to stay. Lots of restaurants and Lyric Theatre is in the complex. Nothing
- Philippa (10/5): Outstanding Stay at The Darling! - Our room was absolutely stunning — a beautifully designed space with a gorgeous view. We loved the thoughtful layout, especially the separate bathroom areas, the walk-in robe, the dedicated lounge and dining space, and the full bench with a kitchen sink. Although we had only booked a standard king room, it felt far more luxurious than expected. The large spa bath was an unexpected highlight, and the shampoo, conditioner, and shower gel were exceptional quality. I think I’ve found my new favourite brand. It was a genuine surprise to see such a high-end range of amenities provided. Also, the huge bath towels were a luxurious inclusion.
Another welcome detail was the room’s location. Being set well away from the lift meant the hallway stayed quiet throughout our stay. The bed was incredibly comfortable, and the automatic block out curtains worked perfectly.
Every staff member we encountered was outstanding — friendly, helpful, informative, and genuinely welcoming. While some might say that’s simply part of the job, it’s not always something we’ve consistently experienced at check in elsewhere. We received a text letting us know our room was ready well before the official check in time, which was especially appreciated as my husband had only been discharged from hospital the day before and the drive to Sydney had exhausted him. We hadn’t mentioned this to the hotel, yet they still made the room available early, and that small gesture made a big difference to us both.
When we arrived, staff greeted us warmly, unloaded our luggage, and stored it while we went out for lunch. By the time we checked in, everything had already been delivered to our room, and our loose items — including coats — had been neatly hung up for us.
After this experience, we’ll be choosing this property over The Star from now on. The inclusions are superior, the rooms are far more impressive, and the staff are exceptionally friendly and accommodating. There was nothing on the 'didn't like' list at all. Keep doing what you're doing, It's just wonderful!
- Clare (8/5): Really welcoming, lovely comfy hotel. - comfy beds

- Brad (10/5): Amazing stay - Lux and Convenient - Unreal stay. Was greeted by a very friendly doorman who valet parked our car and brought our bags to the room. The lady on reception was super helpful and told us our room had been upgraded for free! The room was amazing. Extremely large, full automation of lights and blinds. Comfy lounge and bed. two large tv's. Bathroom was next level with 3 shower heads and a spa overlooking the city and darling harbour. Stayed at the casino a few times and have never been disappointed. Nothing, but there could have been some cutlery and crockery in the room to eat our cheese and bickies with.
- Natalie (9/5): was a great stay - super helpful staff - the pillows were not comfortable and unfortunately the bed was a little hard - eberything else was superb how hard the bed was

- Odyssey51157625127 (10/5): Amazing Service and hotel - We had such a great experience at The Darling Sydney. A special thank you to Tenzing for the exceptional service. From the moment we arrived, she was friendly, professional, and genuinely welcoming.
She went above and beyond to make sure everything was perfect, always checking in with a smile and making us feel valued. It’s service like this that really stands out and makes the whole experience memorable.
Highly recommend, and we’ll definitely be back!
- 540sunn (10/5): Thanks Dita for making my experience seamless - Traveled to Sydney for a business event at the Star and stayed there at Darling to be close to the event venue - I was a bit reluctant at first to book the Star Darling, because it comes up as a 4 star hotel, but the experience was seamless - better than my stay at top 5 star hotels. Dita (receptionist) was extremely helpful and I can’t thank her enough for listening to me so well and accommodating me for what I needed. I would give them a rating of 7 if that was available. Would love to come back and enjoy this place again.
- Nameh (9/5): -
- Graeme (10/5): - Everything was amazing. First class Nothing
- Melissa (9/5): -
- Ian (5/5): Not a good experience - Room was fine but we needed to upgrade to get better view. Had an awful experience at the associated Casino.Basically my husband was asked to leave for no reason. After speaking to other guests this seemed to be a normal occurrence. The security staff were hostile and intimidating. For this reason we will never go back to the Darling hotel.
- Lynne (10/5): -
- Moore (10/5): -
- Lynette (10/5): Stay at the Darling - Location was fantastic. Room was lovely.
- David (1/5): Upsetting and scary - Good location Manesh (assistant duty manager) stalked and harassed my wife, very unprofessional, threatened us and after security was involved they helped us thankfully.
- Adhieu (10/5): perfect stay in a luxury lifestyle - they upgraded us as it was my partners 21st birthday! extremely generous, lovely staff and comfy beds! would highly recommend to anyone. nothing
- Annette (8/5): Overall a great place to stay close to everything - Great breakfast When we 1st booked in I was given no information about my package
When I went back later I was given all the information from another staff member
I should not have had to do that
- leannev991 (10/5): Exceptional - We felt welcomed from the moment we arrived. Staff incredibly friendly and a big thank you to Francesca for going above and beyond. (Hope you love the Lion King).
Perfect location, easy tram ride into CBD. Rooms were lovely and well maintained, spacious, with very comfortable beds and pillows.
Purchased this from trip from Luxury Escapes and will definitely purchase again. Our stay included breakfast with a great selection of food available. Many great restaurants within the complex.
Overall great value and I looking forward to visiting again.
Definitely recommend checking this one out. Loved every moment of this stay.

- Glen (8/5): - Staff and location Nothing
- eflores23 (10/5): Great experience - will stay again! - I stayed at Darling for 5 nights and honestly had such a great experience ✨ The service was always polite, friendly, and super helpful 💁♀️
Check-in was really smooth and welcoming, which is always a good start! The room was a great size with suuuper comfy beds 😍 I slept so well every night. Also, shoutout to housekeeping — everything was spotless 🧼✨ And the best part? The room was incredibly quiet… I didn’t hear a thing 🤫
The outdoor pool area is really nice 🌴 The pool itself isn’t huge, but it’s a decent size for relaxing. One thing to note though — no coffee by the pool 😭 You can order drinks and some food, but no coffee… which feels illegal somehow 😂☕️
The gym was a bit of a letdown, not gonna lie 🏋️♀️ It’s quite small with limited equipment, so don’t expect a full workout setup.
On the bright side, there are sooo many amazing coffee spots and brunch places nearby ☕️🥐 which definitely makes up for it!
Overall, I’m really happy with my stay and would 100% come back 💖
If you have any questions, feel free to ask — happy to help! 😊

The customer service we received during our check in process was exceptional !! Jam was so lovely and even provided us with an upgrade because it was our anniversary. The suite we had for the night was soo beautiful and was honestly the nicest room i have ever stayed in within Sydney. The amenities at the hotel were really nice as well. - 970peteo (10/5): The Darling (Star Casino) Sydney - Recently stayed at The Darling for a mid-week short break and everything was beyond perfect. The Reception Team were (as usual) friendy and engaging which made the process of checkin seamless. The biggest surprise was the room, I received an unexpected room upgrade and was left speechless when I opened the door to what turned out to be a suite, larger than most units with amazing views. I stay at "The Darling" 2 or 3 times a year, so this upgrade was spectacular (thank you) even though their normal rooms are of a high standard, this was beyond next level. Setting aside the room surprise, the food and drinks are always superb at Sokyo and anywhere within The Star precinct you can enjoy a drink or meal. Highly recommend The Darling if you are looking for somewhere close to the city....
- kimengl2026 (10/5): Great ambience - Spent my birthday night here and was given an upgrade to jewel suite. The room has amazing interior design and the ambiance was lovely. Will definitely recommend this hotel!!

- P2782QQianb (6/5): The Darling. Not so Darling - Room ok. Pleasant staff at check in and friendly as we moved around.
Stay away from in room dining. We decided to dine in as I had a 7 year old tired granddaughter with me. For $80 it was disgusting , cold and totally lacked flavour. $8 service fee plus tip.
Very disappointed as this trip was a gift via Luxury Escapes.
Want far better food to be called “ Luxury”
- Jonathan (10/5): - Probably the most beautiful hotel I've stayed at. Perfect for our anniversary! Room and staff were exceptional
- petercG6052MB (10/5): great easter weekend - advanced room facilities and premium design, beautiful view.
- gerryvalel (8/5): Easter Weekend Staycation - A luxury staycation in Sydney. Easy access to nightlife, dining, and entertainment. Big, comfortable rooms with premium finishes. Professional service when we checked in. Sue is attentive and accommodating.

- JENNIFER (10/5): I loved it, it was an unexpected surprise. - I was given a free upgrade to a Suite. The staff were friendly, pleasant and helpful. The hotel is very clean. The Suite was really nice. Both my husband and I were very impressed with the suite and the hotel itself. There was nothing that I didn’t like. I loved everything.
- GERRYVALE (9/5): Easter Weekend Getaway - Check in was quick. Sue was attentive and accommodating. Easy access to dining and entertainment. Comfortable room with whirlpool tub. Small scale gym
- Rakesh (5/5): -
- I1400PWandys (10/5): Outstanding - The whole experience was a pure joy, from check in to check out.
- Lacey (7/5): Highly recommend, super comfortable and everything you need. - We had a great experience. We were upgraded into a suite which we were so excited about and the room was very well designed with stunning interior and awesome features such as a built in wireless charger on each bedside table, lighting that was automated to when you walk past at night. The only down fall for our room was there was a section of floor in the kitchenette that I could tell hadn’t been mopped (stuff was spilt on black tiles and was noticeable) which made me feel like the room wasn’t super clean.
- caitlin (8/5): Comfortable - Beautiful hotel with lovely amenities We were disturbed at 2am with a phone call to our saying we had food at our door when we didn’t order any. They got the wrong room. I Struggled to get back to sleep after looking forward to a child free night.
- Morven (10/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): Wonderful city stay - Loved the pool and spa and the room was lovely. Staff were also so helpful and friendly The kids were disappointed because from the pictures it looked like we'd have a spa bath in our room. Turned out it was a pic of the spa on level 2 and it's not for kids. We also really wanted breakfast in the room but room service was only lunch or dinner..Still loved our stay though!
- GoGoBear (8/5): A Luxury Hotel That Doesn't Feel....Luxurious... - My personal view of TripAdvisor reviews is that they’re meant to set expectations—not just flag bad hotels. Sometimes the most useful reviews explain when a place simply doesn’t live up to what its category promises, even if nothing is objectively “wrong.” And that distinction matters, especially at the 5 star level. “Nothing wrong, really” is not the bar for a true luxury hotel.
I’ve stayed at The Darling twice in the past several months—first in November for a staycation while my wife was away, and again in January for some couple time before a long business trip. So yes, we returned. That alone should tell you the hotel isn’t bad. But I would return again only under very specific conditions.
I found The Darling while looking for a comparatively affordable 5 star option in Sydney. The usual luxury brands weren’t offering great rates, but then I remembered my Luxury Escapes membership. The deal was excellent: three nights in a suite, free breakfast, free parking (unused), and a $75 AUD dining credit—all for AUD $1,500 (about USD $1,000). A 5 star suite in the CBD of a world class city for roughly USD $350 per night? Yes, absolutely.
Walking in, the first thing I noticed was the plaque proudly declaring it a “Forbes 5 Star Property.” High bar. When I stay at a 5 star hotel, I expect something approaching a Four Seasons experience: not just luxury finishes, but a sense that the staff genuinely cares and understands you’re paying a premium. Most Four Seasons properties deliver that consistently.
I didn’t get that same feeling at The Darling.
Check-in involved a long wait, even though staff were visibly available. It wasn’t just me—the guest ahead of me commented on it too. Once at the desk, service was polite and professional, but there was zero urgency. My Australian wife has a phrase for it: “She’ll be right” culture. That’s fine in many situations—but not at this price point.
The room was large and generally nice, but ultimately underwhelming. The design leaned flashy rather than luxurious—heavy on black faux marble, glass, and mirrors. The furniture looked art deco but was uncomfortable, clearly meant to be admired rather than used. The bed was fine, but the smaller details told the real story: a laptop safe too small for a perfectly common 15 inch business laptop, a plastic laundry bag. Those kinds of misses simply don’t happen at a Four Seasons.
Other annoyances added up. The robes were rough. The light switches were maddeningly unintuitive (and I never fully figured them out across two stays). Music throughout the property was loud to the point that we missed elevator chimes more than once. Breakfast required a long walk to the casino buffet, and the dining credit was limited to a single restaurant—not room service, not flexible.
The most representative moment of the overall experience came one evening when my wife and I bought ice cream in the casino—served in paper cups with wooden spoons. Wanting something a bit more appropriate for a luxury hotel, I stopped by the hotel restaurant and asked for bowls and spoons. I was told no. Even after explaining we were hotel guests and showing my room key—the answer was still no.
That would never happen at a Four Seasons. Ever.
We’ve developed a theory about casino hotels: they don’t truly cater to hotel guests because the gamblers are the real priority. The hotel exists mainly to house them. I assumed The Darling would be different, as it’s positioned separately from The Star’s main casino hotel—but in practice, it felt subject to the same mindset.
All that said: this is a 5 star hotel, technically. And if you can secure a strong deal—like we did—it can absolutely be worth it. At USD $350 per night for a suite with dining credits, it was a good value, which is why we returned.
Just don’t expect a true luxury experience. Temper those expectations, and you’ll likely be satisfied.
- Raphael (10/5): - The size of the room, view, amenities, cleanliness and staff were amazing, particularly Ali! N/A
- Marquez-Hunt (10/5): Lovely stay. Staff were friendly and efficient. - Staff was friendly and efficient. Room was clean and comfortable. Convenient location Nothing I can think of.
- GRAHAM (10/5): Most enjoyable and would not hesitate to visit yet again. A definite go to Hotel. - Rooms are huge as are the beds. We have stayed here twice whilst in Sydney and both times have really enjoyed staying.
The rooms are kept spotless, the huge beds are very comfortable and the overall feel of the place is welcoming. Cannot fault staying here. My only gripe would be the cost of breakfast is a little steep for the amount of food one could consume.
