• Naomi (10/5): - I loved my stay. The staff were very friendly, my room was so comfortable, and the amount of history presented was incredible. The ac did leak, leading to a wet floor and chipped paint. Because of the area, the entrance door is locked at night, but staff will open asap. Plus they have a mini breakfast station which was very nice. Will most likely stay here again if needed. The decorations were so beautiful, my favorite was the piano + clarinet.

• Ata (2/5): - Please take this review serious, and DO NOT STAY at this hotel. I went there and there was lizard in the room. They gave me another room, there was a lizard too and both rooms were smelling TERRIBLE. It was the DIRTIEST hotel I’ve ever seen. I asked for a refund because me and my mother didn’t want to sleep with lizards. They told me that it was okay and I had to talk to expedia for it. Then Expedia asked them for a cancelation and refund. I sent them the photo of a lizard in the room as a proof BUT THE HOTEL DIDN’T ACCEPT TO REFUND ME. I PAID 330$ FOR NOTHING. I’ve stayed in many different hotels all around the world and it was worst experience of all time. I hope this hotel will get no customers in the future get what they deserve.
• Luis (2/5): - My stay was okay, at check in I had a room booked. The check in that they have on their Expedia says 3pm but my room wasn’t ready even past 4. When I checked in a gentleman by the name of Bryan told me my room is set, it was roughly 3:57-3:58 before entering I asked everything should be ready and set he told me yes, as I walk into the room a couple was in my room that was supposed to be ready by 3 mind you and the girl inside, and her boyfriend told me they had late check out. I was not made aware of that and very unhappy with this cause I didn’t want to walk into a cisgender heterosexual couple doing their hair mind you this was 4pm. when I return to the front desk Bryan tells me that no they do not have late check out they didn’t have permission for that. At this point I was very let down from the first impression, I had nothing to do with this miscommunication. Anyways so I asked the front desk is there any other rooms available for me to check into as I have to go to work at 4:30 ? I was running tight on time and the man says no that’s your room they’ll be out soon and it will be clean for you when you get back from work. Anyways it was not a good first impression lots of miscommunication between front desk and customers. Then also the sheets were stained everything smelled the property needs renovation and remodeling. The continental breakfast is lacking it’s not continental only dried out granola bars powdered sugar donuts, and fruits.
• Luis (6/5): - I was disappointed by the lack of communication. The two ladies at front desk were sweet but there was some interactions with a man I think his name was Delvin if not mistaken, he needs to work on his customer service skills, and effective verbiage on communicating effectively. When I was waiting to get my new room I asked if it would be ready by 3 this time. He said to me if you hear the words coming out of my mouth you will know that your room should be ready before 4 because I had a past encounter where the room wasn’t ready even at 4 I wanted to make sure this wouldn’t repeat. Everything was communicated ineffectively he told me that the room would be ready before 4 which was great but I asked him as for my stuff do I leave it in the old room & stay with it? he told me that’s fine that they would move my bags to the new room. And behold when I go to the new room which was ready before 3 which I did appreciate the bags weren’t there. So when I asked the lady at the front desk if my stuff was going to be moved like Delvin said. It wasn’t it was still in the old room which was still dirty past 3 pm and delvin told me they would move my stuff. anyways I went with the lady to go pick up my stuff and move it to my new room, which was nice of her to help however if you can not move my bags for me to the new room don’t say you will and make empty promises. I stayed there for less than 2 days and saw so many errors & miscommunication room for improvement.

Bathroom wasn’t finished. Electrical outdated. Very small tv on side wall, couldn’t see from bed. Roku tv with few channels. No amenities, not even soap or tissues. Cute little place for reasonable price, but overall disappointed. I would never stay here again.

No refund!!!! - Strongly suggest you AVOID THIS HOTEL We prepaid the hotel and despite giving advance notice of a late arrival, they just decided to cancel the entire booking. The hotel was full when we got there and they refused to give a refund, leaving us to find alternative arrangements and therefore paying twice for each night!!!
• Patty (4/5): - We arrived late around 9pm and took an Uber as we arrived - this was not a great area- the Uber driver said are you sure you want to stay here? Maybe in the daylight but at that moment got back on Expedia and booked Hilton. This is not a “boutique” hotel. The reviews and pics looked so good.
• Michelle (6/5): - You get what you pay for. Ive never been to a hotel where i was checked in on paper. They didnt give any receipts I guess because they didnt use a computer. The area I was told was not a good one. I was told continental breakfast would be available and we were up early and there was only stuff to make coffee and perhaps tea. The hotel concept9 was great. They had rooms named after celebrities.
• Roshawn (2/5): - The lady at the desk was VERY pleasant and helpful. At first site of this place i asked myself what did i get myself into. I WOULD NEVER STAY HERE AGAIN. We stayed because it was late ( late flight) and we were heading to a cruise early morning. There were a few things unpleasing about this booking but i will give the main things. The bathroom was INFESTED with bugs.The ONLY lock on the door loose and not very secure. The TV did not work. No phone in the room. The room was the size of a closet. The walls are COTTON THIN heard my neighbors conversation as if we were in the same rm. We did not sleep in the bed although the sheets appeared to be clean.

• Claude (6/5): - There was dust on the floor of the room and bed. There were also some leftover bolts or screws from a project that had been worked on before I came in. There was no desk or chair for me to use for writing. There was no way for me to connect my PC to the hotel room TV for watching my own content. I am sorry to say that noise was an issue, both from wandering chickens and a local construction project. The door to the room was very hard to shut properly, requiring me to force it. However, I was only in town to visit the consulate and this location made that within easy reach. I was also able to order food from uber eats from it. A Publix was a few blocks away. It wasn't entirely bad. I write this review not out of spite but to give constructive criticism - these are things that need to be dealt with and fixed by hoteliers and cleaning staff before they bring in paying guests.
• Matthew (10/5): - Good cheap place to stay that was interesting and not a chain. Parking was limited. It's downtown Miami so not the safest area. Multiple homeless walking around on arrival at 12:30pm and had to park on the street. However, service was good and room was enjoyable.
• 42bethg (8/5): Small boutique hotel with tons of history. - I had an early Monday appointment at UM Medical Center and we decided to stay near the medical center Sunday night. This hotel is one mile from UM and appeared to be an economic alternative to other hotels. We were a bit concerned about the location and it's the only reason this is not a five star review. The area is being revitalized and there aren't a lot of restaurants open or activities in the immediate area. However, the hotel itself is a real historical gem. Toni at the front desk was wonderful and gave us a great history lesson and the artwork throughout the hotel and in the room was amazing. We stayed in the Josephine Baker room and it was very clean and comfortable. We were able to park on the street right in front of the hotel. We walked down to the House of Wings on the corner for dinner and felt very safe. Coffee, tea and prepackaged breakfast items were available in the morning. We will stay here again!

The room we were in was spacious but right on the street so very loud. The property had lots of pluses as it was a neat boutique hotel but the location was a little concerning.

All the rooms are named for famous people from black history, and arts. The room was roomy with a very comfortable bed, and large bathroom. Walking distance to the Red Rooster and local art galleries.

• Justin (10/5): One of the best hotels I’ve ever been to - What an absolute gem of a hotel. The lobby has some fantastic art. The room was immaculate. I had a double queen room for my daughter and I, we both agreed that the mattresses were some of the most comfortable we’ve ever stayed in. There’s a small public park next door that had roosters strutting around, awesome. This is an owner/operator hotel, and you can feel the difference. They care about this place. Every staff member was warm and inviting. 15 minute walk to Kaseya Center, 15 minute drive to South Beach. There’s an on-site parking lot with designated spots for the hotel. I don’t ever write reviews, but this place more than earned it.

There were no spaces either in or directly adjacent to the shower where toiletries could be easily reached. They had to be placed on the floor. There was also no towel bar. I had to leave the shower area and cross to the sink area to access dry towels.

• Kristian (2/5): - If you like to stay in a ghetto area this will be it….. this place is not what it seems or sound online. Deity sheets that rooms smell horrible. Also doors don’t lock properly. Not to mention everyone knows that code to your room. I complained to the front staff and she moved me to another room. The situation was the same. Bed was dirty and it smelled bad. She “cleaned” the room after i complained again and pretty much just used air freshener and changed that sheets. The beds are also broken. After all of this I was refuse a full refund. Not even a partial refund was offered. I wouldn’t recommend this place even to my worst enemy.

We arrived to the hotel at 5pm on NYE to be told this news - left completely stranded. Of all times to try find alternative accommodation. They double booked the room and flat out refused to refund us at all. Steer Clear.

I was so impressed with my room decoration, I took time to read about Josefine Baker. I totally recommend this hotel, I am sure people will love it. • Randy (10/5): - The lady at the front desk let us check in pretty early which was nice because we flew all night. We were able to walk to the downtown and brickell still but it was quite far. Good place for the price.
• rebecca (6/5): - Someone went to a lot of trouble to decorate the rooms and lobby but neglected to maintain it. The Wi-Fi didn’t work in our room, the toilet paper holder was off the wall, pieces of the bathroom counter underneath were missing. We had no cups in our room and after we asked, they never appeared. The continental breakfast was sparse but there wasn’t any bowls or salt and the front desk couldn’t find any. The bread for toast was the absolutely cheapest and nastiest you could find. On the plus, The staff was universally nice and friendly. Gave us lots of tips to do things but they didn’t seem to know what was what in the hotel. The area around the hotel did not have a lot touristy stuff around but it was an easy walk to the bay side. Good parking. We felt safe in the area though it was run down. A good manager would straighten these things out and the hotel would definitely get a higher rating. I just kept thinking the whole time: how is this worth the money?

A 15 - 20 min walk will get you downtown for dinning options. Supermarket very close. Great walking location, you can walk the waterfront in an hours round-trip. Continental breakfast. Recommend!

My only issue is for people like me whom has a heart condition or thats in a wheel chair the owner should think about installing an elevator or escalator. But other than that is was the bomb 💣.
