Guest Reviews
- William (1/5): Literally a mattress on some wood in a box. - It's situated well. At least be bothered to put the dead cockroach in the wastebin. This place has seen better days. There's a window in the bedroom which has been nailed shut. The wifi is spotty at best. The bed creaks at every move. Zero atmosphere. Shared bathroom was filled with bugs.
I paid for two guests, didn't realize the second guest had to be registered. When I brought someone home with me, the owner was angry and told me I had to pay more. I told him I my booking was for two people yet he still insisted. Then afterwards he changed the reason to the second person needs to be registered. All this happened at 2am. Some ground rules setting at the beginning could have avoided all misunderstandings. Like, really, we all have translators on our phones now.
- Ninh (1/5): Rất tệ - Không có điểm gì thích Rất bẩn. Có cả quần lót trong bồn rửa mặt @@
- RRcar (1/5): SCAM!!!!! SCAM!!!!! SCAM!!!!! AVOID THIS ENTIRELY - Letting me leave my bag in the morning AVOID THIS PLACE AT ALL COSTS. THIS PROPERTY IS A COMPLETE SCAM.
I arrived at the homestay around 10 AM. Since check-in wasn’t until 2 PM, I dropped my bag and went out to explore. When I returned to check in, I was suddenly told there were no rooms left and that they were fully booked.
I showed my confirmed reservation but the rude older man running the place, (likely the owner) insisted my room had already been given away. His excuses were all over the place. First, he claimed “many people don’t show up,” which made zero sense considering I had literally left my bag there earlier that morning. Then he said it was because I hadn’t paid yet, even though I had submitted my credit card details and the confirmation clearly stated I would be charged for a no-show or cancellation.
He kept insisting that I cancel the booking so he wouldn’t have to do it on his end but cancelling it myself meant I would still be charged, so I told him to cancel it from his side instead.
Rather than honouring my reservation, he tried to push me into booking a more expensive two-bedroom room that had “just become available.” When I questioned how this was acceptable, he became dismissive, switched off the lights, and was practically closing the door on me.
To make matters worse, the property is extremely hard to find, poorly signposted and tucked deep inside an alleyway.
This entire experience was a complete waste of time and energy. The behaviour was unprofessional, rude, and blatantly dishonest.
Save yourself the trouble and avoid this property entirely. There are far better options nearby.
- Phuong (3/5): -
- Petr.k (1/5): Don't try!!! - Terrible room,wet,mold, stench, dirt
- Khalaf (1/5): Bad -
- Mainak (1/5): Bad - Feels like a haunted house. Unclean. Not recommended.
- Mitsuo (4/5): - The lock of inside on my room is broken and won't close. I have to lock it with a key, but the light won't turn on unless I insert the key, so I need to use my cell phone light. The bathroom and toilet are shared, so I need to use my cell phone light to open and close the door every time I leave the room. Also, the room and bathroom aren't cleaned, there are mosquito bites on the mirror, and the shower hose is covered in dust. What's bothersome is that I have to ask for the bath towels to be replaced every day, but the front desk is rarely there, so I have to go back several times. It was very inconvenient. The owner was a nice woman, but the staff were rude and always angry.
- Akshit (7/5): Good - The owner was helpful, I checked in really late around 2 am and he woke up and helped me check in, even though he was sleepy and couldn’t understand English properly, but was nice and helpful There was no lift and had to take up the luggage 3 floors up.
- Patrick (4/5): Disappointing -
- Tyler (8/5): Very good - the man that owns this place is actually nice and kind, he may look grumpy but is lovely ❤️ so many steps
- Denis (5/5): Passable -
- Scott (1/5): Bad - Absolutely nothing don’t book here! Our experience at Chikoo Homestay was beyond disappointing. From the moment we stepped through the doors, we were met with the owner's outright hostility. The rudeness was palpable, and it set the tone for what would be an utterly miserable stay. The condition of the room was appalling. Not only was it disgustingly dirty, but the shared bathroom was in a similar state of neglect. Mold and grime were pervasive, making it impossible to feel even remotely comfortable. Adding insult to injury, the bedroom was plagued by dampness, making it difficult to breathe, let alone sleep.Given the dire circumstances, we made the decision to check out after just one night. However, when we requested a refund or even a partial refund, the owner's response was shockingly aggressive. Not only did they refuse our request, but they also made it abundantly clear that they had no interest in addressing our concerns or providing any form of compensation. In summary, our experience at ABC Hotel was nothing short of a nightmare. The combination of a rude and unprofessional owner, filthy accommodations, and a complete disregard for customer satisfaction make this establishment one to avoid at all costs. Save yourself the headache and look elsewhere for accommodation.
- Marie (1/5): Bad - Nothing Very dark when you walk in with no lights on, charged me more than it said it was, very dirty the bathroom and the room, the host went into my room when I was not there, the bed was uncomfortable, he knocked on the door to check out, made us checkout at 11am when it says check out is 12pm and was telling with someone else downstairs, he doesn't make you feel welcome. I do not recommend staying here. It's a horrible experience
- Azi (2/5): Very poor - Location In the room, there was a strong smell of dampness, and the floor was wet. There was a loud knocking on the door for checkout, accompanied by shouting.
- Victor (4/5): Disappointing - Close to the old city! Lot of attractions around this place. The guest was not really kind. Furthermore he opened our room with his own key while we were in the city…
- Berta (7/5): Good - Price and location Bed covers were not changed
- Harry (1/5): Bad -
- Jeremie (1/5): Bad - Nothing The room was dirty the bathroom too the guys at the reception didn't smile once no help at all not even trying to help no English at all . The bed is not comfortable. with the room smelling.
- Loc (9/5): Superb -
- Stanbridge (1/5): Bad - Nothing would not recomend It was extremely cold and dirty
- Nikola (5/5): Passable - Location and price No windows in the room. Scary looking bathroom and poor wifi.
- Mark (1/5): Stupid owner - We booked double room with one bed. We came and it was nobody at reception. Was so dirty and dark. Everything looks old. Later owner came and the owner said that it's written at booking details only 1 person. I came with friend and I booked 1 double person room . I don't know where to choose other option. I booked not single person room . I booked room for 2 persons. But he said get out from his place or pay twice more. He was so unfriendly. And we booked other place, but spend more time. Thank you a lot . I hope nobody want to stay at this garbage place
- Liv (2/5): The host weren’t very nice, and he turned off the Wi-Fi all the time. The house was very dirty, and there was loud drill -
- James (1/5): Terrible. Never stay here - Terrible Staff. Very unfriendly and very demanding. Did not accomodate. Would never stay here ever for the price. There are much better option in much nicer parts of town. Legitimately everything. It smelt poor. It was cramped. It also felt like the staff did not care
- Gwen (2/5): Unbearable - It was cheap and pretty close to different sites. We were supposed to stay here for 5 nights but we could only handle being there for one night and had to find new accommodations. When we arrived around 4pm the gate was closed and we had to reach through the bars to get the lock open and we're greeted by a dark and cluttered house with nobody around and had to just hope someone would come down for us, he did but he was not very welcoming and seemed like we had woken him up from a nap. The room was not clean at all, there was a lot of long black hair and crums all over the bed, pillows, sheets, and floor (I am very blonde and my bf has a buzz cut) so it was clear it had not been cleaned since the last guest. The bed was hard as rocks with no real blanket (we soon found out why) after about 1 hour the air conditioning stopped working entirely and was only blowing hot air into the room making the room hotter than even outside. It was absolutely unbearable and I had to take a cold shower in the middle of the night to get any relief. We woke up with sore backs and bones because the bed had about as much support as the floor. The guy was not easily accessible to ask about the air, nor does he speak very much english, so we found a new hotel for two nights in hopes we would come back and the air would be working again, it was not so we got our stuff and went to another hotel. We didn’t get any refund on this stay so we ended up paying another $150 on the new accommodations. I would recommend just paying for a better place and not wasting time and money here. Maybe in the colder months it would be better but that wouldn’t fix the cleanliness.
- Lê (1/5): Bad -
- Ioanna (1/5): Aweful. Make yourself a favour and go someplace else. - Location It was REALLY dirty. There was a dead mouse on the entrance and the guy was skinning a duck in the toilet. Dead mouse and a dead duck, 5 meters apart. The place looked it hadn't been clean for years. The Host was super rude, he woke us up at 8 in the morning, banging the door asking us we pay him.
- Laghosa (7/5): Good - Very quiet and cozy place right at the center of the old quarter. It seem the internet get disconnected after 2AM, need to tell the staff to leave it on if you needed.
- Heath (1/5): Unacceptable - Nothing I often don’t leave bad reviews but this stay was terrible. After struggling to find the alley in which the homestead was in. The host was so unfriendly and demanding. The room was incredibly humid and the smell of damp and dust was overwhelming, this smell did not leave despite using the AC and opening the door. The window was unusable as it was bolted shut and offered no ventilation. There was dust from building work all down the side of the bed and the sheets were dirty and moulding photo frames. The room was nothing like the photographs and had a broken cupboard, that again did not open, with creepy minions inside. While we were away the host invaded our privacy and unplugged all of our things- I found this unsettling. The Wifi was also unplugged and so the property did not offer the facilities advertised. This stay was so disappointing, neither of us slept well due to the horrible atmosphere and I had a sore throat in the morning, it is unacceptable that a place offered on booking.com would make you feel ill. I would give this place 0 if I could. Why can I not post more photos of this horrible place to complain?
- Dovile (4/5): Disappointing -
- Gesa (1/5): Bad -
- Knight (1/5): Bad -
- Marcus (9/5): Superb - Host is very nice!
- Matej (8/5): Very good -
- Sidoruks (1/5): Bad - Nothing All
- Olivier (1/5): Hotel was full, got kicked out - Hotel was full when we arrived despite booking in advance
- Nikhil (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nikhil (8/5): Very good -
- Bi23 (8/5): Very good - The location, very nice Guy managing the place also.
- Prashant (1/5): Bad -
- Milan (3/5): Humid room, upleasent host - The location It was humid as hell. It was hard to breathe in the room. I came with my wife, when we left together she decided to come back earlier. The host was asking what was she doing there and that she needed to pay money. Until I came back she had to deal with that.
- Pete (1/5): Strong recommendation to AVOID - Good location was the only good thing. The room is in awful condition, it smells like mold and sheets are wet due to the humidity. We almost switched places because of the horrible smell, both also got respitorial symptoms. It was hard to breathe and you’ll feel sick in the morning.
The room looks unfinished and abit like a construction site with a bed. When you leave to go outside, the owner comes and shuts down AC and unplugs all the electronic devices.
Trust us, we have seen horrible places, but this was the worst. Avoid at all costs.
- Deivis (10/5): Exceptional - All everything good, I'm happy 😁
- Alannah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Pedromoll (4/5): Disappointing - Pros:
*A good location
* Bedsheets and towels changed every two days.
* A reasonable price.
* Toilet paper and shower/shampoo gel are always available.
Cons:
* They will unplug your electronic devices if you leave them charging in the room.
* The old man will become aggressive if you bring a companion along for the day.
