Guest Reviews
- 國諭 (9/5): -
- Kristopher (8/5): -
- Eytan (8/5): Very good - Lots of space for a family.. especially in Tokyo. Close to a metro station. Beautiful set up and garden
- Whitehurst (10/5): House in the middle of Tokyo - It is close to everywhere but located in rather quiet neighborhood but not too quiet. As it is on a main road very handy to get a taxi too. Not much
- Ricardo (9/5): A great little home-away-from-home for longer stays. - We stayed in the downstairs unit. Extremely spacious for Tokyo. Nice to have a full kitchen, laundry, a/c, and comfortable (large) Japanese style bathroom. The property is a little dated, but well maintained and the garden view a nice respite from the concrete of the city. Overall even better than described and would happily stay again. The small single Western-style bed in the main living/sleeping room is not very useful (best to sleep on the Japanese futon type beds provided). It can also get a little stuffy at times, but nothing that opening the window or turning on the A/C doesn't solve quickly.
- Denise (7/5): Good - Bunk beds were very uncomfortable (felt like there was no padding when laying down). Check-in was a little confusing.
- Brendon (9/5): Shinjuku flat - - clean
- very nice bathroom
- close to metro station-
- family mart across the street!
- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- Vyryka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alison (9/5): We had a wonderful time at the Shinjuku Garden House! Amazing hosts and prime location. - The location was fantastic! Immediately across from a convenience store and only a couple of minutes walk from the nearest train station. Also many good restaurants in the surrounding area. The comfort of the beds was slightly lacking. Other than that, it was great.
- Siriporn (8/5): Good location to the train. - The host is very helpful.
- Johan (7/5): Large rooms and well located. - Large rooms and well located. Wasn't clear if we would get access to the garden or not.
- Eliza (9/5): Such a fantastic option for a family or group in Tokyo - Such a fantastic option for a family or group in Tokyo, we loved having our own cooking facilities for a quick breakfast before heading out exploring in Tokyo for the day. The bathroom with little bath was so great for our little toddler and the older kids loved the bunk beds. A little more pre-arrival information would have made check in a bit easier. Being upstairs made bag handling a little harder.
- Alyce (8/5): Charming apartment with easy access to transport - The train station is very close, making getting around tokyo easy and efficient. The multiple convenience stores and lovely little restaurants meant getting food was very quick and easy. The home had an authentic japanese charm to it and was bigger than I expected, sleeping 6 people comfortably. The washing machine and indoor clothes line were a useful and nice surprise. Getting our luggage up and down the stairs was precarious. Luckily, we only had to do it twice.
The shower had mold on the ceiling, shower head, and in the grout between the tiles on the wall.
I was expecting the garden to be at our back door. However, we ended up being on the second floor, and so we only had a little view of the garden.
- Amy (10/5): A wonderful place for a family to stay in Tokyo - Lots of room for 5 of us
Very close to subway
- Aya (9/5): Good - Location Front door was too heavy. No gas stove.

- Jacqueline (10/5): This was our family’s first time in Tokyo (mom, dad, 3 teenagers), and I am really glad that I was able to stay at this - I really liked the location. It was so close to everything but away from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. It was peaceful. Nothing
- Lila (10/5): Perfect for our Family of Five - Ideal location to use the Tokyo metro, we didn't use a taxi our whole trip. The two bunk beds + two twin sized beds were perfect, and we didn't feel it was too small when relaxing in the house. The nearby family mart and local restaurants are also very convenient. I believed the photos show the bottom and top floors of the house, you will likely only be staying on one floor (we stayed on the top) so you may not have access to the garden.
- Raelene (8/5): Great little apartment with everything you need. Perfect for families that don’t want to stay in the centre of Shinjuku - Perfect for a family with space to spread out. Handy little convenient store directly across road and others within very short walk as is the train station. Only 4 stops to main Shinjuku station and far away enough to get away from the business for some r&r after busy sightseeing days. Little hard to find on google. Our drive dropped us in back alley as that’s where gps took us but it is actually located on the main road. Sometimes have sirens going by so if you’re a light sleeper perhaps bring ear plugs. I slept fine though.
- Armin (10/5): Excellent. - Excellent place to stay. Comfortable, convenient, and host really helped us out a lot. I would highly recommend this place if you are staying in Tokyo.
- Rachael (10/5): Super Convenient and Great Host - It was super close to the train, and having a small convenience store across the street was very convenient! Yuko answered messages quickly and provided detailed explanations to any questions we had regarding Tokyo. Nothing, it was great.
- Anne (9/5): Superb - Perfect location, comfortable beds, very clean. The arrival is a bit like a treasure hunt - could be fun but not when you just spent 20 hours travelling and you are completely jet-lagged !
Impossible to understand how the luggage lockers work.
- Tina (8/5): Very good -
- Thomas (10/5): This house made a very pleasant and convenient base for exploring Tokyo. - Good location near the metro station. Family Mart just across the road. Plenty of space and a nice garden both back and front of the house.
- Svetlana (9/5): Superb -
- Lyndsey (10/5): We didn’t want to leave! - Most spacious of apartments we have stayed in and felt very private, more like a home than an aparthotel. Lovely dining area next to a sunny window. Owner was very helpful and pleasant in correspondence. Family Mart small supermarket across the street. Comfy beds. Nothing!
- Zhai (10/5): Lovely - Great location great privacy great facilities That we couldn’t stay for longer!
- Hansen (9/5): Superb - Terasawa-san is very helpful during check-in and answers our questions quickly. The house also have a lot of amenities, most items we need during our stay were available. There is also a bus stop in front of Famima across the road. You can hear the footsteps of others who rent the place upstair clearly.
- Nicholas (6/5): Good location and facilities but too noisy - Very convenient
Close to train station
Very good facilities
Kitchen, washing machine and good showers A lot of noise at night
Traffic and pedestrians
I found it hard to sleep
- Teck (7/5): Good - Good location with supermarket, convenience store and train station within 5 minutes walk - there is even a dog and cat shelter cafe just outside the exit of the train station.
Landlord was very helpful in allowing us to send our luggage in advance of our stay. Unit on the upper floor poses some challenges in bringing up and down luggages.
- Franco (10/5): A thoroughly immersive yet very comfortable holiday that ticks off all the boxes. - Our stay here was a real-world immersive vacation experience. Staying here gave my family a chance to not just vacation in Japan, but to live a few days almost as locals, and with all of them old enough to have an appreciation for the cultural contrasts versus life back home, it made for a perfect socio-cultural holiday that they immensely enjoyed on every level. < Not Applicable! ^_^ >
If you’re looking for a generic western hotel room with room service and a concierge, this might not be for you. The property owner did go to extraordinary lengths to cover all guest needs we could think of and beyond, so despite not having the chance to meet our host in person, we all felt extravagantly pampered by her through her home.
- Justin (8/5): Good to stay if you are looking for cooking and laundry by yourself in Tokyo. - Very spacious room with all necessary facilities. Location is difficult to find when using google map which leads to the back of the premises and it takes a lot of effort to locate the exact location. It is also not close to the shopping area of Shinjuku though it is claimed in the Shinjuku area.
- Jayne (10/5): Excellent home - Lovely home, comfortable and had everything we required! Family mart directly across the road! The only issue we had was the pathway to the house is hard with a stroller… but i would still stay here 1000 times again!
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Artur (10/5): Exceptional - What a wonderful traditional styled apartment. Exceeded our expectations. Loved the amount of space, the facilities, the garden, and bath.
- Roland (9/5): A convenient, comfortable, and very affordable stay in Tokyo. - The home is very conveniently situated close to a Tokyo Metro train stop. There is a convenience store across the street. The property was clean, well kept, and comfortable. The host sent a detailed booklet with instructions about the house, as well as pointers to local businesses, restaurants, and medical care. I found the beds a little more firm than I would have liked, but the rest of my family did not have any issues. While there are separate bedrooms, there is no sound isolation in the space.
An instruction booklet about how to operate the washer would have been a great help.
- Rofang (10/5): Greatly appreciate host brought us key at midnight right after our arrival. -
- Yu (9/5): Superb -
- Jonas (10/5): Exceptional - Peaceful and quiet. We would definitely recommend it!
- Belinda (8/5): A little haven - Easy, clean and adaptable. A hint of feeling like a locals home. Extremely safe. Great facilities and so close to stations. A very good find. The drainage in the bathroom took a little getting used too, takes time for the water to go down. Need to be patient.
- Nobeer4me (10/5): Away from the buzz, yet super convenient to reach Shinjuku, using E04 subway - Clean, spacious, great location, well equipped, responsive
- Kelvin (9/5): Cozy apartment in Shinjuku that was great for our traveling group of 7. - Clean and comfortable. Centrally located with parking lot available upon request.
- Foong (10/5): Exceptional - We stayed there for 7 nights and felt so at home that it was as if staying in our own home. We would love to stay here again. None
- Philip (7/5): Good -
- Jacob (10/5): Exceptional -
- Crystal (10/5): Exceptional -
- Gerifaud (9/5): Superb - Small home in tokyo
- Raymond (9/5): great stay - it has a n64 console with super smash bros game !!!!!!!! , hotel was very clean and nice stay at
- Pei (8/5): Very good - Prefect location with car park In kitchen there is not enough power point, I have to swaping around with microwave, toaster, and kettle, otherwise very comfortable with lots space to stay.
- Man (5/5): i would not recommend - The good thing about this house is that there is free parking and the house owner is nice The house is old and you have to take the suitcase to go up the stairs to the 2nd floor and clean up your trash , the quilt has a lot of hair and stains that made us feel uncomfortable.
- Yuya (9/5): Superb -
