- Rachel (6/5): Good location, good value for money but very basic accommodation - Brilliant location, made it so easy to walk around the shops, bars, restaurants and easy public transport from cereal It was really basic, which the price reflected but the carpet as really stinky and the shared bathrooms old and hard to get clean
- Lu (3/5): -
- Megan (7/5): gave us a place to sleep - quick entry and and finding room shared bathroom was really unclean. There was a used pad stuck above the door and used gel bottles everywhere. The pad was what bought down the cleanlness
- Karlee (8/5): - The staff were excellent, room was huge and the bed was comfy as. I'd spent the previous 2 nights in the Mariat at Chatswood and hardly slept a wink. The Erko was homely and cool as.
I'm kinda bummed my international flight wasn't cancelled the next morning because I was keen to stay another night.
Next time.
- Lauren (8/5): - Simple, clean and super lovely staff. Would come back
- gardner (7/5): -
- Coraline (10/5): Parfait pied à terre pour découvrir Sydney - La situation, très pratique pour visiter Sydney. Quartier très sympa. Pub très sympa.
- EUGENE (8/5): Clean and comfortable. - The Hotel facilities were clean and value for money however the Erko bar was disappointing. i was given 2 Bara sliders to try, the fish was good but the buns were soggy and inedible, having jyst landed from Perth, we had not eaten a decent meal and we're just looking for some good food, my partners chicken was good unfortunately my octopus dish was cold and rubbery, sorry but not nice at all.
- Potter (8/5): - Location is fantastic for my needs, the staff were very friendly.
Room was clean and tidy. The showers, something was correct with hot water.

- Kieran (10/5): 10/10, every time I’m in sydney I’ll be booking here - The bar and hotel staff were the friendliest people and made me feel like The Erko was my second home. Incredible service all round! The beers weren’t free lol
- Dagmar (10/5): -
- Sian (8/5): -
- Aaron (8/5): Was very satisfied with this venue to stay. - Clean, comfy beds, price, bonus coffee in the morning. Staff were friendly and was quiet in the room. There was no hot water in the showers and I got in trouble of the missus the whole way home, now I don’t need to be getting roused on for 5 hrs because you guys had no hot water. How is that my fault.😂 This was the only slight issue but it did wake me up for the drive home.
- Asha (7/5): - Pub attached was very good Room and bathroom was average
- Laura (9/5): Très bien - Emplacement top à côté de la gare
literie bonne temps pour récupérer la chambre
- robyn (9/5): - Roomy family room
- Muhammad Imran (10/5): - Room was big in size with extra beds as well.
- Emma (6/5): Great location, friendly staff - Amazing location and the pub itself is great. The staff were super friendly and shouted us a beer when check in was delayed. It was pretty quiet in the room too, considering the heaving pub downstairs. The bed was a little on the uncomfortable side.. and the cleaner walked in while we were lying in bed.
- Maureen (9/5): It was convenient especially being close to the celebration we attended. - The location and clean Room was out dated
- Steven (8/5): -
- John (9/5): -
- Goslik (3/5): Room above a pub - The rooms were nothing like what the photos suggested.
- Stacey (8/5): -
- Blake (10/5): So good - Unfortunately there was no hot water at 7am.
- Meret Amélie Sophia (7/5): -
- Scott (7/5): authentic Aussie pub stay - Location, staff were friendly and helpful, rooms had air con! Shared bathrooms were rough (leaking shower heads, footwear required)
- Hanson (8/5): Great - The room is very clean, neat and tidy, comfortable The room
- Joshua (8/5): -
- travers (2/5): I’ve written to customer service twice and no one got back to me. - Location is good It’s dirty particular the shared shower, grotty! Doesn’t look like it was cleaned in months.
- Imogen (6/5): - Great location, very close to Newtown and Great price. Rooms were clean. The amenities were not very clean at all. Lots of empty body wash and shampoo bottles laying around. Bathrooms need a much needed deep clean.
- Deborah (6/5): Very convenient and comfortable enough. - The location The shared bathroom
- Roxana (5/5): Okay - Location and that it had a side entry The rooms were hot. We had the Aircon two fans ons and it was just okay
The bathrooms are a bit gross and you can still hear the music, but that was expected
- Matthew (7/5): - Simple, clean accommodation Noisy til closing time, but it’s a pub on a Saturday night. Not unexpected
Would like to have been able to open the window.
- Victoria (10/5): Everyone was extraordinarily helpful and welcoming - It’s a very clean and pleasant hotel with a no-frills approach
- Paul (5/5): - Location was handy for me. Being pub accommodation, my expectations were not too high. Thin walls (early morning horizontal dancing in next door room). A visit from the large Sydney Cockroach. Extremely filthy shared balcony.
- Holly (10/5): - Great location, comfy beds and free drink voucher N/A
- Alison (8/5): Great location, very friendly staff, great vibe. - Great Location if you are going to the Enmore Theatre for a concert. It is about a 15 min walk. It's very close to Erskinville station as well. Very close to Newtown and all of the restaurants. Everything is within walking distance. I feel the shared bathrooms could have been a bit cleaner.
- Amy (8/5): - Fantastic location. Complimentary drinks with the room. Great price. Clean and fresh. Big spacey room. Friendly staff. The hot water runs out by the evening. Only 2 toilets available for all the rooms
- Melissa (8/5): Great for groups of friends. Best location. Love this leafy, ecclectic, dog/family friendly pub. - Location is everything, close enough to walk to all the Newtown and Enmore restaurants and entertainment, but still far enough to feel part of the lovely, leafy Erskineville community. Rooms are upstairs above the pub, separate entrance. Air-conditioned and fans make it really comfortable. Bathrooms are basic. The Erko pub itself is a great, eclectic, dog-friendly pub to hang out in. Bar staff were all so welcoming. We were looked after Danny, who was very helpful and attentive. Our stay included a voucher for either a house wine/beer or coffee across the road. We loved breakfast at Shenkin. We had our hair washed and dried at Marley Rose across the road. There is a bottle o and a Woolworths within walking distance as well as the Imperial Pub where groups of young people went celebrating hens nights etc as the Imperial does Sat night drag queen shows. There was a Thai massage place a few minutes walk away which is lovely if you have been walking the King Rd/Enmore Rd all day. The Erko is great for groups of friends. We were celebrating my friend's birthday. On the first morning, both toilets were almost out of toilet paper. There was a spare roll left out the next day. Twice I had to wait 5 minutes for the hot water to come in if I was showering late night or early morning. People have complained that there was no hot water, but just wait and it does come in. I was almost thinking I would have to have a cold shower and then, no, it would start going hot. This didn't happen during peak.
- Alannah (1/5): Disappointed - Nothing Poor cleanliness, killed a cockroach crawling on the bed, disgusting bathrooms.
- Joel (9/5): -
- Miriam (7/5): - Amazing location close to 3 train stations and vibrant Newtown, and all we needed for a few nights to make the most of Sydney on a budget. Loved the drink/coffee vouchers. The photos make it look a little nicer than it is, we don't mind but good to be weary for those with higher expectations. As advertised is above a pub so bring earplugs if noise sensitive (doors can be a bit slammy too).
- Gary (10/5): -
- Thomas (10/5): -
- David (9/5): -
- Mike (8/5): -
- Sheridan (8/5): Would recommend it to family and friends - Location price was good. Food was excellent. Beer was nice and cold. Nothing
- Ashley (10/5): -
- Micah (10/5): I enjoyed my time here immensely because of the staff. - I stay here often. It has everything one needs to have an enjoyable stay. Friendly staff - they are the best. I was greeted with a smile and a couple drink vouchers when I checked in. I had a very comfortable bed in a clean room with great linen. My room had aircon and a ceiling fan and I could open my window. Great bathroom with strong pressure shower and the common kitchen was clean. Food is great and beer is cold. Close to coffee shops, restaurants and the train station. Would stay here everytime I come to Sydney. Nothing.
- Nicola (4/5): Great location, lovely neighbourhood, will be nice once construction is done I’d give it a month. - Really close to airport and trains and lovely neighbourhood full of great pubs and cafes and they gave us a few drink vouchers for the pub and a cafe which was nice They did not tell us ahead of time that they were renovating so the room stunk of paint fumes, the air conditioner wasn’t working and we were woken up early each morning by loud construction
- Lynda (1/5): -
- Thomas (4/5): Fix the blinds - Clean, spacious The bloody blinds!! For the love of god, get new blinds. It didn’t shut out any light! From 5:30am when the sun rose, I got 0 sleep. Which didn’t help when I got in at 3am!
- Michael (8/5): -
- James (8/5): - Convenient location and room was clean and comfortable
- Greg (2/5): Find other options - Very tired, dated rooms, no real care taken. Basin was chipped and rusted. Blind wouldn't open. The duvet inner between two loose sheets was very stained. Lights on side table dirty. No battery cover for TV remote, TV up bear ceiling. Shower dripping. Urine on floor of shared toilet this morning. No aircon. Very noisy.
- Georgia (6/5): -
- Yolanda (10/5): - The location and service from amazing staff! Oh and the free drink token to use downstairs at the bar :) Nothing
- Sherrie (5/5): Good location, rooms fair, clean but not having any hot water the next day was a downer.probably won’t use accommodation - Central to everything. Staff very pleasant. Good location We weren’t able to adjust the blinds or windows to allow natural light into the room. There was no hot water the next morning to be able to shower or bathe before checkout.
- Alana (7/5): Served it purpose for the night - The location was fantastic!
Comfortable bed and pillows. Nice big room. Paying extra to have a toilet, no blinds on half the windows, power socket hanging out of wall, no reverse cycle aircon, TV didn't work, didn't represent good value for money. A lot of potential here, just needs a bit more tlc.
- Angela (8/5): -
- Rachel (10/5): - Although rooms a bit run down - very clean and comfortable
Staff here all brilliant thoroughly enjoyed our stay
Happy Yorkshire Day!!
- Jacqueline (8/5): Our home away from home! - Great location, vouchers for either a drink at the bar or coffee shop across the street. Comfortable stay and staff are super friendly and accommodating. Bathroom/toilets are freezing cold in winter with no fly screens.
Heater didn’t work in room so needed extra blankets.
- Jacqueline (8/5): Very good -
- Carter (7/5): Good -
- Margaret (6/5): - Too many digs in the hotel while you are eating and very noisy all night banging and yelling.
- Zore (10/5): Exceptional -
- Geoff (1/5): No wifi over and evidently a routine issue, poor service, bed had clearly been slept in, noisy - Location to train and lovely sheets Advised one voucher for regular (aka small coffee) per room and booking, not per guest and not per night. Be prepared to negotiate additional vouchers as this is part of a cost saving initiative
- Jen (7/5): Good -
- Gino (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jackie (7/5): Good - cheap and cheerful. bonus Free coffee and pastries for breakfast
- Sarah (8/5): - Clean, comfortable and convenient. Nice neighbourhood and a short walk to trendy Newtown. The pub downstairs is great. Shared bathroom was fine. No dramas here & would definitely stay again
- Chris (6/5): It’s fine for the money - The room was clean . It was basic but fine The carpets were stained in the hallway
- Ben (10/5): - Awesome place, staff were excellent. Our band stayed there and we’ll be back next tour!
- Andrew (8/5): Very good -
- Sarthak (5/5): Passable -
- Chris (4/5): I got what I paid for - The pub below Scruffy rooms and smelly
- Neil (4/5): Poor Maintenance, Wi-Fi And Value - The best thing about our room was its good size and convenient location. That’s about it. I don’t expect luxury from pub accommodation – and there's nothing like that here. Occasionally, pubs can surprise you with what they offer for the price. The Erko was the opposite – for just under $200 per night (which can be more, sometimes), I felt ripped off. I booked the only room with its own toilet and sink. The latter looked as though it had come from a skip (and should go back there). Showers are communal and unglamorous (think hostel) with a rust brown colour scheme (polite version) but were clean – as was the shared kitchen. There are baths, but no plugs. After several minutes, the water eventually becomes hot.
Biggest issues… not a single window covering that worked. Blinds were either missing or broken - so expect to be woken at dawn (if not by noisy neighbours first). An electrical socket was hanging off the wall – discovered when I moved the desk (one of the few pieces of furniture).
The Wi-Fi (which I see as a basic necessity) was essentially useless. You won’t be streaming anything through the pub’s internet connection (leaving you with network TV for all your entertainment). I had to use my own mobile data just for workable e-mail and web-browsing.
If I had paid $120 per night, I wouldn’t be complaining – but I didn’t. I guess the management company is able to exploit the notorious lack of accommodation in the Inner West to its advantage. But there are alternatives nearby - it's worth a little bit of research (see photos).
