Guest Reviews
- Meghane (6/5): -
- MybE66 (4/5): Stay and pay for two nights in Sweets Van Hallbrug but could only sleep one night in room.. - Like the view from the room on the canal. Very very bad communication.
My phone blocked the key code and we struggled a whole afternoon trying to contact the number provided.
So we had to book another hotel for the night...
Please send the door key number directly to the customer and not via the pass on phone..
The bed was way too short. The room is very small so I understand the bed can't be too big.
- Oliver (10/5): -
- Diane (6/5): - It was quaint and location very good It was very small. Shower and toilet combined.
No kitchen facilities whatsoever
- Mariska (8/5): -
- Carl (8/5): -
- alina (10/5): It was beyond our expectations - Everything. It was perfect, the location, the room itself and everything else. Nothing !
- Erdal (10/5): - Çok şirin bir yer. Her şey düşünülmüş. Size özel not yazmaları (el yazısıyla) çok güzel hissettiriyor. Giriş çıkış kolaydı. Çok mutluyduk. Düşündüm ama hoşuma gitmeyen hiç bir şey bulamadım.
- Ana (9/5): -
- Katharina (10/5): - Die Atmosphäre Die Dusche hat getropft!
- Christine (10/5): - Cosy set up and beautiful view of the canal. Bed was super comfortable slept like a log Shower is in with toilet so toilet gets soaked when have a shower. It’s a tight space so unsure how could prevent but maybe a run around curtain
- Alexis (10/5): Great unique experience, highly recommend! - CUTEST property ever, very tiny and cozy but SUCH an awesome experience and felt so authentic. Very clean, the bed is SO comfortable and is just overall a great way to enjoy Amsterdam. It is such a unique thing to be able to say you stayed at a bridge house! It is very small so if you have a lot of luggage it might be difficult, but really has everything you would need.
Rien
- Beth (8/5): Great stay - I really enjoyed my stay at SWEETS van Hallbrug. The layout made great use of a small space and it was nice to look out on the canal.
- Özge (9/5): - It has a very nice view. If you want to experience a different and lovely vacation i recommend there It is a little bit away from the center
- Vladimír (10/5): -
- Cheree (9/5): Very unique, gorgeous accommodation. - Location and working bridge. Nothing, initially I thought the bed looked too small, however although it was small it was the most comfortable bed we had during our 6 week trip to Europe.
- Robert (6/5): Pleasant - Very clean and attractive. Quiet. Terribly small. Toilet and shower in the same small room. Double bed has one long side against the wall, tortuous climb in and out of bed. Best for a young couple. Not close to anything. Bring only one suitcase.
- Matthew (10/5): Bridge living! - Very cool one of a kind location! Living in an Amsterdam bridge!! And a super comfortable bed! Everything was really good. But if anything, maybe more food preparation options and the shower toilet set up.
- Georgina (10/5): Perfect little place! - Perfect little spot for two people on a long weekend away. Staff were incredibly helpful when contacted and facilities were exceptional. Would love to check out their other rooms on offer! Was perfect for a short stay but would recommend a bigger room for longer stays.
- Rakesh (8/5): Unique experience but a bit away from the sights. - We stayed in a canal boat on our prior trip to Amsterdam and decided to continue to pick unusual accommodations. This bridge hut is definitely unique. We had a fun stay but 2 nights was about our limit. There is very very little space and the "wet" bathroom takes some getting used to. The location is a very long walk (25+ minutes) from the heart of town but there are buses and trams nearby that help shorten the trip. The road noise/vibrations can be a bit much, especially if you are a light sleeper.
- Binenbaum (10/5): Memorable place ! - Special experience to be in bridge house !
Location is great, the space is small but sufficient.
Hospitality and contact with host was great.
- Evelina (6/5): Pleasant - Really good view and very good location. Clean room. The heating was insufficient given the fact that the room was on a bridge, really close to the water and the canals and the only source of heating was an air condition. The bathroom was extremely small and cold, due to the lack of heating. Overall, quite expensive for its provisions.
- Lorena (9/5): Superb - This is a truly unique experience. A very cozy space, indeed. There are a couple of excellent cafés less than a minute away. Cleaning services are included. We kept the curtains facing the street closed at all times. The shower and toilet combo are also unique.
- Joe (9/5): Beautiful home, very cozy, great location, not too far from centre but quiet. - Beautiful home, very cozy, great location, not too far from centre but quiet. Great selection of hot drinks and lovely views out the window The check-in was a little annoying. We were told that we might be able to check-in early, so we stayed close with suitcases, while we awaited the code. They said we would have it at 3pm at the latest. We waited until 3pm and they said the code was ready at 12 but they forgot to send. We were in the area from 11am so that was a little frustrating, however we did discover the Two Chefs Brewing bar nearby, which was lovely and had a great selection of beers brewed in Amsterdam :) Overall this will not put us off coming back here or trying another Sweets Hotel
- Cecily (8/5): Cute, interesting experience - It’s very cute, the bead is comfy and the bridge is interesting to see in action. Good location though a 30 min walk from central it’s through a lovely bit of town with lots of bars and restaurants The bathroom was a little cold. And mainly our fault for not thinking properly - it is on a main road and pretty noisy, the bridge also went in the night which woke us. Ear plugs were provided though
- Sandy (3/5): Could have been a 'quirky' experience but failed dismally. - Location was somewhat 'quirky' being a draw bridge operator's cottage right on the canal. We saw the drawbridge operated once so an experience. Nearby coffee shop, Italian restaurant and public transport made it a good location. Single room was tiny and suited small frame backpackers, not normal size international travelers with large cases. Toilet/ shower combo and space around the bed would be totally unsuitable for oversized adults. Access was a disaster beyond our control. Delayed flight from Finland meant we arrived after office hours (Sweets had already been advised well in advance we would arrive late however no support service was available and our phone calls were unanswered i.e disappointing lack of support for clients) and the email message with instructions how to access the property only arrived during the flight. The app required to blue-tooth the electronic door lock failed and we had to find an alternative hotel with greatly appreciated help from a cab diver; all up cost for extended taxi time (91 Euro) and room exceeded 300 Euro. Finding a replacement hotel after 7pm was a miraculous stroke of luck as several we approached were booked out. Attempts to open the door with the app next day failed on two separate phones and at last we received the code to a wall mounted mechanical key locker. We finally entered the property around 10am and were somewhat horrified about the facilities as discussed above. An expensive and unnecessary introduction to Amsterdam to say the least. Clearly Sweets has a duty of care to ensure international travel
ers are fully aware of the property's dimensions and institute a fail safe system of all-hours access to the property. We hope to receive compensation for one night at least.
- Sugey (7/5): Good - It was quiet The location, the size, for me is not a hotel is far from to be...is more a Airbnb, Mt expectations for the money I paid totally different.
- Veasna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sherry (10/5): Bridge hoy - Simona was excellent,& helpful; she found us an adapter. We loved the canal views & watching the barges . The accommodation had everything we needed.
- Darcy (9/5): Superb -
- Mindaugas (10/5): Cute authentic experience, but needs a facelift. - I love the authentic experience, saw bridge going up and down. And writers desk with window view directly into channel is so charming. Bed hardly fits into the room and you need to sleep in other direction without head support. Overall place is so tiny, there is no space to open your luggage. Bathroom door is not water resistant, but in constant contact with shower water and started to fall apart. Vanity mirror light is broken. In conclusion, this house is in a need of repair and some love of architect.
- Ashleigh (7/5): Good -
- Amanda (9/5): Quirky taste of Amsterdam - The view on to the canal…and lots of provisions provided The traffic to the other side was loud as it went across the bridge, but earplugs were provided so that was good
- Alison (10/5): Canal Studio perfect for a couple! - Cute little canal studio, just perfect for a short layover stay in Amsterdam. Close to public transportation and good food nearby.
- Alexandra (9/5): Superb -
- Iwona (10/5): Must have - Breakfast with the window open by the canal, comfortable bed, cleanliness, JBL speaker, waving people from passing boats.
The house is quiet. You can think about the mirror in the bathroom and change the mirror over the sink in the room and vacuuming the ceiling lamp.
- Helen (9/5): Quirky place to stay, great views and a very comfy bed. - View of the canal, clever use of space and the comfy bed.
- Tanner (10/5): If you want to experience true Amsterdam. - The location on the outskirts of the hustle and bustle of the city was great. The shower was the best shower I’ve ever had. It feels like a sauna in there absolutely heavenly. People nearby talking and being loud right outside the property.
- Nora (8/5): Very good -
- Viktoriya (8/5): Lovely - I knew the place was small but didn’t realise how small exactly until we got there! Nevertheless we didn’t have any issues with the size of the room, it had everything we might need (air-con, plates, slippers, cups, ear plugs, hair dryer, kettle, mini fridge, etc). The bed was super comfy and it wasn’t noisy. The view from the window was incredible. The location was good, right next to a bus and a tram stop with good connections, and about a 20 min walk to the centre.
- Sean (10/5): Exceptional -
- Luke (10/5): - Thoroughly enjoyed our stay in this unique property! Informative and thoughtful hosts with great pointers to delve into the city!
- Andreas (9/5): Definitely something unusual (in a good way) - The concept is definitely interesting. The bridge house is beautiful and unique as an accommodation option, while the inner organization is optimized given the extremely small space.
The view is stunning, both towards the canal as well as the road (which opens up for the boats to cross - we witnessed that 2 times during our 3-day stay, sometime in mid-adfternoon). Notably, the windows open on both sides.
Bed and pillows (2 for each) were more than comfortable.
Amenities were very much appreciated (boiler, tea and coffee, umbrella, multiple bath towels, a big mirror, etc.).
The A/C was adequately powerful, able to heat up the space in a matter of ~10 minutes (we visited on some of the coldest days in January).
Communication with the hosting agency was also flawless. Door key was provided as a code and you needed to download a mobile app (Flexipass) to open the door for the first time (a physical key card was also provided in the house).
A handwritten greeting card was expecting us on arrival, which is a nice touch.
Would definitely recommend it and when back in Amsterdam we might try one of the other bridge houses! Check in time was on the late-side (4pm), with an option for an early check in at 1pm (but at a hefty price of ~50% of the daily fee).
Going to the toiler/shower (which are merged and separate from the sink) is a bit tricky if the weather is cold, since you step out of the room to the cold inner small hallway. There is also no heating in the toilet/shower.
Location was decent, but not ideal. It is a 35 minute walk to downtown.
Space to move around is indeed vary limited - if you are physically big it might not be the best option.
- Cody (10/5): Amazing, cosy, brilliant for 3-5 nights! - such a lovely accomodation! The place was immaculate, brilliant decor, they provide a speaker if you want to play tunes on your phone. Good bed with really comfy pillows :) It's cosy, about a 15 min tram to centraal station, and close to other great parts of the city! I was a bit worried about noise from traffic but I did't hear anything throughout my whole stay! This place is perfect for a couple for 3/4 night stay! Really, its perfect, nothing to complain about!
- Bayu (9/5): Superb -
- Francesco (7/5): Very good for an unusual experience - The view on the canal is very nice and it is not far from Jordaan; also, you have no neighbors. The studio is the control room of a movable bridge, so it is minuscule and quite noisy. The sink is in the room, and there's no regular mirror above it for shaving or makeup, and the toilet is inside the shower. If you are willing to do something different, it's great, but if you're looking for comfort and relax, do not choose this.
- Marlena (7/5): Good - The view was beautiful Bathroom was cold, I think stay in the summer would have been better
- Kate (9/5): Cute, quaint stay whilst visiting Amsterdam! - Attentive hosts. Nice views with the property being located on a bridge. Cosy. Comfortable. Amenities provided eg. toiletries, towels, hairdryer, teabags.. Would definitely recommend this property to others staying in Amsterdam. Bit cold in the hallway/bathroom (we did visit in winter). There was one dirty/stained towel (we didn’t see it as an issue but other people might). Bit dusty/dirty under the bed.
- Stephanie (10/5): I’ll definitely stay in this room or one of the other bridge houses next time I’m in Amsterdam! - This was such an cool and unusual little place to stay! Super clean and well arranged, literally right on the canal. It’s perfect for one or 2 people. Close to transport and near interesting areas. Some people might not like that this is more of a self-catering single room right on the street. I knew this going in and really liked it!
- Bhaskar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Doreen (6/5): Satisfactory. - Being near the water Very cramped
WiFi did not work. No one responded when asked about the password not working
- Not (9/5): A charming little corner of Amsterdam! - Staying at the Van Hallbrug was a fun experience. The management of the company was superb, we had made a mistake in our dates when reserving the space. The Sweets team reached out in our behalf and helped us fix the dates. They were on top with messages welcoming us and checking during our stay. Great service and hope they stay that way, big shout to Anne and Eva for their electronic support before and after.
The location of Van Hallbrug is a bit out of the center, because it is in the west side of the city, past Jordaan, area, it may seem a bit of a walk sometimes. However, the neighborhood has two supermarkets within 5-7 minutes walk and if you plan it, you can take a tram to get you around town. For super fast service to the center catch the bus #18 to Central Station! We also recommend going around the corner for a nice strong cup of coffee at "Back to Black".
The space itself was small, it is the smallest bridge house within the company/city; however, it is very well organized. The hooks in the hall, the sink, the shelves with small fridge and plates, hot electric kettle, it all fitted perfectly. Having the bathroom door down the very short corridor/entrance gave you an extra sense of space. The window to the canal was a plus to enjoy some serenity and "people/boat" watch as the sailed about. We also embraced the culture of "open windows" and sense of safety people have in the city by not worrying about having curtains closed all the time. We can't wait to go back and try other bridge houses with SWEETS! We enjoyed the stay; if we had to point at something was the fact that in order to make space, the bed was set horizontally in the room so it felt a bit weird when going to bed; but again it was needed to optimize the space. :-)
- Sarah (1/5): Disappointing stay which we abandoned due to ant infestation - The location was good with lots of places to get coffee or lunch nearby. Easy to walk to the city centre. It has a lovely view. Easy contactless check in process Unfortunately we had a bad experience here. We arrived and everything looked lovely and the check in code worked but the accommodation was infested with ants. they were everywhere, the surfaces, sink, shower room and bed. We checked in late and then went out to eat and noticed a few when we came back but in the morning they were everywhere. I contacted the property manager and they weren't that helpful. They said they had this problem and could pop round to put some ant deterrent out. We decided to check out after one night and find somewhere else for our remaining two nights as we didn't feel this is a problem that could be easily solved... When I asked about a refund, Eva explained that they couldn't promise that (!) but would be in touch. We left and booked in at a hotel nearby. There was no real concern from them about how disappointed we were or how disruptive having to suddenly find new accommodation was - or how much time this was taking from our actual holiday. They refunded us for our reminding two nights but charged us more for the night we stayed which we felt was unnecessary, inconsiderate and just really poor customer service. When I challenged that they offered us a 15% discount for a future stay which isn't helpful at all. I would have preferred a 15% discount for our disrupted stay. I actually would have really appreciated that as the experience was such a disappointment and a token gesture like that would have made a difference and I would have reflected that in my review. All in all, I couldn't recommend this place and wish we hadn't stayed.
- Bridget (10/5): Exceptional - The Van Hallbrug bridge house was an absolutely delight to stay in. The surrounding neighborhood is so quaint yet has plenty to do, and the space was cozy and welcoming.
- Megan (8/5): Cute place in a great neighborhood, but a bit noisy at night - Good location, very clean room Noisy at night
- Mikkel (10/5): Calming, beautiful bridge-house. Very unique experience. - The location is one of the nicest in Amsterdam.
I had this very calming experience of just lying in the bed all day, and watching the boats sail by, and listening to the bridge opening and closing.
- Kester (9/5): Unique, small hotel experience! - This was a really unique experience! Going into it, we knew that it would be small but we were pleasantly surprised at how well laid out things were. We loved being right on the water and the hotel was well-located and easy to access via streetcar/tram. We appreciated the information in the book that was provided about the different bridge houses. Overall, a lot of fun and for a short-stay we would definitely consider doing it again.
- Irina (7/5): Good -
- Ece (9/5): Superb -
- Martin (8/5): Very good -
- Muhammed (5/5): Good experience for a special day celebration but not for vacation - The best thing is you are sleeping on the Canal. Betül cold toilets anda shower.
Very noisy area
- Jacopo (9/5): Superb - very lovely place
- Kotryna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Inga (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paula (4/5): Ruined our holiday - Just recently booked this apartment for 3 nights, it was late at night arriving after a long day travelling , walked for ages to find the place, found it eventually by the time we got there I was unable to access the door as the phone is the key and the FLEXIPASS wouldn’t load up without wi fi, tried using another phone but was unable to get another code, by this time my battery had died and had to return back to the central where I was lucky enough to find another hotel at a huge extra expense to us, Phone is the key
- Richard_l (9/5): Charming bridge house west of central city - This is a charming bridge house built right over a canal. It is small and cozy but has a great view and is in a residential area. Trams are close by and if you are up for walking, there are some shops and restaurant areas and other attractions within a 20 minute or so walk. You will need a mobile connection to use the electronic key to open the door. We have been using wifi on our trip and, without a live Internet connection, could not open the door. Fortunately, support was available by telephone and it was quick and helpful.
- Chert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Caroline (10/5): Unique experience - The stay is just as lovely as it looks. Not the most central locations but you can bike and walk everywhere. It's very romantic, the view is beautiful by sunset hour. Super recommend.
- Brown (8/5): Very good -
- Doolan (9/5): Superb -
- Jayne (10/5): A most memorable experience. - Its uniqueness. It’s presentation. It’s interest factor. It’s position and location.
- Kiri (9/5): great little find! - lovely little place to stay, centrally located so easy to get anywhere you want. air conditioning was great. comfy bed. good for a weekend stay no blackout blinds and bathroom is a wet room with toilet and shower in 1 and very small so the picture is a little misleading.
- Zoey (10/5): Cute place to stay with everything we needed - Lovely view, everything in walking distance for us. We found the accommodation cosy and comfy. It was all we needed. The road was a little noisy but not enough to ruin our stay.
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- Emma (10/5): Fabulous little house for a cosy, romantic stay - Small but perfectly formed - so much more fun than a hotel room. Nothing, it was wonderful.
