Guest Reviews
- julien (8/5): - Emplacement originale

- Peter (1/5): Exceedingly disappointing. - If it hadn’t been for the canal works the location would have been great. I like the idea of repurposing old quirky buildings. The property did not contain one piece of comfortable furniture and the facilities were woefully inadequate. Having travelled for months each year in a small but well thought out motorhome we are used to living small but this accommodation was poorly planned. We had booked for three nights but we left after one night & found alternative accommodation that had comfortable chairs, a mattress that we could sleep on & a well thought out little kitchenette with all of the facilities that we could want.
The location was good but due to the current canal wall repairs was spoilt by being surrounded by barges full of sludge and feeling as though you were in the middle of a construction zone. While I know that this is not the fault of the owners I do think that we should have been warned and thereby given the option to choose different accommodation.
- Bertrand (5/5): Cela aurait pu être très bien. Dommage - Le concept

- Anton (6/5): -
- Phoebe (10/5): A memorable stay, in a great location by a thoughtful company. - All the amenities worked really well and were super easy to figure out. The hand written message and customer service felt really personal and thoughtful. The half cover for the windows is a great touch for some added privacy during the day. Absolutely nothing.
- Bauwens (10/5): We enjoyed our stay…thnx for the free tickets - Location Everything was fine
- husam (9/5): - מיקום מהמם ושירות טוב המזרן לא נוח
- DERUN (9/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): I love this place it is not a typical stay but just the same it was home. Highly would recommend! - Everything was a delight comfy bed and very enjoyable accommodations. Mini fridge is really tiny ( not ideal for leftovers ) - no microwave.
- Barritt (9/5): Absolutely amazing and very - The property was at a perfect location. We loved the balcony and watching the boats and your local businesses were a massive bonus. We were 2 women who were travelling and felt very safe. The room was comfortable and the bedding was so cosy. We had to use the heating a bit as it became cold at night but this made the property feel even cosier. The complimentary vouchers for the botanical gardens were a touch too. All in all I would definitely use this property again if it was available for my next stay Didn’t like the shower being in the toilet

- Mireille (10/5): Fantastisch leuke en fijne spot!! - Verrassend!! Ik hou ervan!! Wakker worden in hartje Amsterdam. Praktisch ingericht.
De “gordijnen” erg leuk!! met aan de buitenkant, Dream big, sleep Tiny.
Nu al aan het kijken wat het volgende brugwachters huisje gaat worden. Tip!! Tram 14 is top!! X
- Anita (10/5): Unique and delightful - Super cool place! So glad they made the bridge keeper houses into rentable rooms. Very comfortable. Amazing views. More spacious than expected. Loved sitting on the outdoor space. Had to download an app to access the place, but it worked fine.
- Sonia (10/5): Sempre bello poterci tornare! - Posizione, servizi, accoglienza e l’omaggio per visitare l’Orto Botanico..splendido! Nulla
- SaraDerry (8/5): Most memorable location, v clever space. Great coffee! - Amazing experience, very memorable due to unique room type and location. Amazing use of tiny space. V secure Needs a little love: scuffs, stains and some peeling on paintwork, curtains watermarked.

- 71marks (10/5): - Balcony/terrace area. Location spot on Shower/toilet combination
- catherine (8/5): A really lovely place to relax and enjoy time - Unique , location, price ,purpose
Had an outdoor space which we felt was very important, beautiful scenery Nothing really , coukd have done with microwave but it was all perfect x
- Holly (10/5): Such a unique and fun property, lovely service also. - Location and fun little place, well designed Spiders - can’t be helped
- Creative8 (9/5): Different and quirky little place, felt nicely isolated and safe. Will stay again :) - Location was excellent. Quirky and comfortable. Great bed! Shower leaks out the door all over the floor, no biggie though.
- Michelle (10/5): Loved our stay at this Bridge house! Will stay at another when we return. - Loved this bridge house! The botanical gardens were right next door and beautiful to visit. We were a short walking distance to nearly everything.
The covered deck was awesome and it was fun to wave at the boats traveling the canal.
The washroom was a different experience... you could literally shower, s#i+, and shave at the same time (no we didn't) - but we could have.
Book on the bridge houses was cool and interesting to read.
Great bathrobes and slippers to use, oddly no washcloths. The door automatically locking every time the door closed (when going in from the fabulous covered deck to the inside). This wasn't a big deal since we were only here a short time.
No washcloths for showering. This perplexed both me and my husband as out of the 4 places we stayed on this holiday (Edinburgh, London, Paris and Amsterdam) only the 5 star hotel in Edinburgh had washcloths. How do people have a proper shower and bathe themselves without a washcloth? It was just odd to us.
- Darryl (10/5): Another good stay in Amsterdam - This is our third stay with Sweets and again it was perfect. Hortus has the sweetest balcony and the best canal experience you can get!👍
- Raz (10/5): - Super cute stay. Very unique experience in this bridge house! A bit loud with the tram passing nearby.
- Janine (9/5): Fun accommodation in a good location - Location and fun element of something different. It was also quieter than I expected
- Paul (9/5): Superb - Your own space The bathroom
- Alexander (9/5): Amazing stay - Stunning views, gold location, comfortable bed, clean and tidy. Condensation in the premises, but considering time of the year we went ot was understanding. Didn't spoil holiday at all
- Bradley (6/5): Ok - The location was good, the building work next door was un intrusive. The apartment was cool The cleanliness and overall condition was not as good as the previous sweets apartment I had stayed in
- Cherie (10/5): Absolutely Awesome!!! - ABSOLUTELY AWESOME!!!! The location was perfect, short distance into the main area. Located close to a tram stop which was convenient when leaving with luggage!
So cosy and relaxing! Loved sitting on the balcony and watch cruise boats go buy as the sun went down.
Has wifi, was clean and a comfortable bed.
Would and have been recommending to everyone! Such a unique accommodation and cool experience! Loved everything!
- Cottrell (10/5): Best change of pace from regular hotels - The view
Comfy bed
The balcony
The space was clean and modern
Centrally located
Unique and fun First time using flexipass and not having cell service was a little concerning. Aimie was very helpful and responsive.
Would have been helpful to have a "how to" document on site with all the tips that were given in the text messages.
- Hande (9/5): Superb - Location
View
Concept
Balcony Too expensive for a little room
- Elaine (7/5): Fun location, will be better when construction complete - Amazing location, fun to be right on the canal and see the boats go by Construction directly behind unit. Barge with container in front of terrace. Felt price should have been adjusted for this
Noisy but ear plugs provided and overnight was pretty quiet
- Radu (9/5): Superb -
- Ellie (6/5): Love the idea but were not there at the right time - The design of the property is great and efficient. It is well insulated and warm even when cold outside. Bed is very comfortable and lovely tea and coffee provided. When we were there the property was surrounded by construction. This meant the view, and the privacy was obstructed, affecting our enjoyment of the property. There is a trailer for the construction workers about 20cm from the terrace, making it feel odd to sit outside or have curtains open. While we loved the idea of Sweets and the design, we wish we had been notified of the construction as we would have stayed somewhere else. Without the construction it would be amazing, and I wish we had been there another time to enjoy it fully.
- Russell (10/5): Cool, fun, great location - Great location, compact, felt like the bridge keeper Temporary building works restricted access
- J.jjj (8/5): Very good -
- Johanensandra (9/5): If they need bridge house staff, call us ! - We live some 25km from Amsterdam and once a year like to treat ourselves on an overnight stay in the city. To make it useful and special it has to be in the centre, preferably in a hotel or B&B near one of the canals. But what could be more special then a bridge house literally IN one of the canals ? Easy access using a doorcode, received via textmessage. Large roofed terrace, which should be nice in summer (chairs / table provided). Inside, a small seating area suiting two. Books and board games available. No cooking facilities, only kettle for hot water to make tea or coffee. But do like we did: little walk to supermarket or take-away restaurant and diner is ready (plates, cutlery and glasses are provided) ! Decent sized double bed. Large windows can be blinded with shutters, so you don't have to sleep in plain sight ! Shower and toilet economically together in one small space. Because of the location and design, we fully enjoyed our stay ! Just a reminder: tourboats are passing by on a regular basis. Keep in mind you will be spotted ! Trams and other traffic passes the bridge. It can get noisy, but we considered it to be "city charm". Besides, earplugs are provided !
Also, be aware you pay for the location. Not for luxury. It is always subjective if what you pay per night reflects true value.
Like we said, sometimes you have to treat yourself and try to forget the cost......(sometimes).
- John (8/5): Very good -
- Kimberly (10/5): Hidden gem in plain sight - Amazing location , cozy and warm x great views x Could do with a toaster or microwave maybe ... something to cook with would be helpful
- Lariza (8/5): Very good -
- Samantha (8/5): Great place! Enjoyed it a lot would come back again. - Very unique and great place. Quiet as long as you don't mind people seeing inside the windows. The bed has a huge bump in the middle so have to choose a side to sleep on. Not easy to cuddle on.
- Kimberly (9/5): Great location and clean. - Location and cleanliness. Easy check in and out. Shower head in same room as toilet. In such a small space it was difficult to contain the water. Also, it would be nice if the huge iron door that leads to the stairs and street could be locked.
- Fellows (10/5): Exceptional - Great location but would to have more choice to cook Like I said if they where more choice in being able to cook or have a micriwave
- Andrea (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jackie (8/5): Really enjoyed this little flatlet - The design led refurbishment Bit noisy through the single glass
- Wouter (9/5): Excellent use for a bridgehouse - I really like the use of the bridgehouse as a ‘hotelroom’. The app to get in was easy to use and once you’re in, you can use the keycard for the rest of the stay. The location was amazing, right next to the Hortus Garden and just outside the busy area of the city center (so not a lot of noise from the streets). The bridgehouse has a large balcony looking over the canal and I really liked how they build the bathroom. The bed is comfortable and I loved the Rietveld-theme of the bridgehouse. For it’s former use, it is logical this bridgehouse has a lot of big windows. The two large ones have wooden panels that you can put up as a sort of curtain. It works perfectly for blocking the light and giving some privacy, because it’s very easy to see into the bridgehouse. This didn’t really bother me, because that is how the bridgehouse is build. But I felt a bit uneasy about the advertisement on the wooden panels. I get that SWEETS wants everybody to know it’s possible to sleep in a bridgehouse, but it feels like sleeping behind a billboard that says: someone it staying here right now. You also can’t close the gate at the top of the stairs so everybody can get on the balcony and tap on the door/windows. As a couple staying there or in my case: a male solo traveler, maybe it’s not that big of an issue. But I wouldn’t like this combination - the fact everybody on the outside can see the bridgehouse is used as a place to stay and you can get on the balcony - as a solo female traveler. I think it would be better to remove the advertisement from the wooden panels, I imagine it would feel saver when staying there.
- Angela (6/5): Unique and unforgettable - The whole vibe of the place was amazing, wasn’t expecting to love it as much as I did, we loved our stay and would definitely stay again, the views were amazing, lovely friendly atmosphere… easy access to attractions etc via trams.. As much as I loved our experience, I was disappointed with facilities. The lack of toaster, cups etc… the lack of an up to date television was disappointing although it did offer alternatives which was actually quite nice and different.
- Gregg (9/5): Superb -
- Derun (10/5): Exceptional - Great location. Its not in the center of tourist areas. Nice balcony, beautiful view, close to metro..ı dont think ı would go to another place as long as Sweets Hortusbrug is available. Nothing ı can write. Liked everything.
- Jermaine (9/5): It was actually better than a traditional hotel in some ways. - The uniqueness of staying in a bridge house. Location was great. very relaxing.
- Michele (8/5): Very good -
- Saro (6/5): Pleasant - I didn’t have breakfast, location was good Safety and security measure were a bit poor, there was no lock on the external gate which made my stay a bit uncomfortable.
- Kim (8/5): Very good -
- Emanuelle (10/5): Fantastic, unique, cool! - Such a cool location! It was absolutely fantastic, the host were helpful & friendly. Access through the key code was so easy. Groceries, restaurants, bars...everything within walking distance. Most definitely would recommend! Nothing!
We were extremely sad that we had to leave, because we wanted to stay so much longer!
- Anna (10/5): Great stay! Would recommend! - My favorite part of this location was the balcony. It was great to wave to people on boats, watch the rain and relax. It was a great location, about a 15-20 minute walk to museums, the RLD and around good food, coffeeshops and cafés Not the biggest fan of the adverts on the shutters. I felt it brought some unwanted attention to my wife and I.
- Capecoral_joe (10/5): Exceptional - Good location Perhaps have a box of tissues for guests
- Dmitry (10/5): Comfortable and quiet stay in a minimalistic style to enjoy old Amsterdam - Great location and very comfortable stay. Pretty minimalistic option in a quiet place. Check in with special electronic app key access was easy. Room was good in size for 2, clean and comfy. Very convenient location with walking distances to Botanical garden, NEMO, old center. WiFi works well, shower is small (with integrated WC) and just right enough to refresh after city walks. All-in-all amazing place to enjoy Amsterdam and be in close proximity to the old city center. Definitely recommend to try this unusual spot Pretty much exposed to the outside, although seems normal for Amsterdam :) A bit too small mini-fridge to keep food supplies (can fit couple sandwiches and 2 half-liter bottles only). Would be great to add a small microwave and then this place should be complete for self-supply :)
