Guest Reviews
- Ron (6/5): Pleasant -
- Nunez (10/5): I like the history - Love it
- Anchala (5/5): Passable -
- Carlos (6/5): - No tengo
- Daniel (10/5): - Unique hole in the wall if you want a blast from the past and historical significance
- Martin (10/5): - Nice restaurant
- Yahya (8/5): - Overall it was an okay experience. The neighborhood is in a busy area and it’s very loud. The staff who helped me check in had an attitude and was kinda rude even though I was being respectful and smiling. The hotel location was convenient and close to the Union Train Station.
- Michael (10/5): - It was a great affordable option. The front and back doors were secure. The room was also close to the bathroom and shower. There were also several restaurants close by so that you can easily walk to.
- Star (10/5): - Very kind
- David (10/5): - An honest review, this place is not for everyone but it is a great hotel. Shared bathrooms and showers but everything is exceptionally clean, quiet and safe. I loved it and would go again.
- Sarangeli (1/5): Bed bugs. - Nothing Dirty, full of bed bugs, people doing heroin in rooms. When I complained they acted surprised, switched me rooms to another room infested with bed bugs. This place is a public hazard. Asked to dry my clothing, asked for payment. Do not read the reviews, I am not sure how they have so many good ones but not what they say at all!
- Evan (10/5): - I only stayed here one night, but I loved it. A very cool old building in an awesome location. The staff was super nice (as were the other guests I met in the dining area). It had everything I wanted, and the whole building felt retro without being run-down.
- Janelle (8/5): - It’s not like a regular hotel where every room has its own bathroom. There’s shared restrooms and shower rooms. The rooms are simple with no tv. To me this wasn’t a bad thing but I wanted to put that out there for folks who were interested. The bathrooms and shower rooms were always clean. And they have a kitchen you can cook in and eat in if you choose to. It was nice and quiet.
- Marc (2/5): - horrible. horrendous.
one of the worst hotels i ever stayed at.
- Hilarry (1/5): Bad -
- justus (10/5): - Property is very clean and quiet and does resemble a bit more of a hostel than a hotel. Has a kitchen with fridge and stove. bathrooms and shower are shared, though i've never had to wait to use either one ever. Also the price is really good. The only thing I don't like is the bed quality is low. We're talking like cheap mattresses from the 80s vibe. only springs. But I'm old and my back hurts easily..
- Sebastian (8/5): Very good -
- Pedro (4/5): - Not good
- Steve (8/5): Very good -
- Emily (9/5): Superb -
- Alona (10/5): Exceptional -
- Janet (4/5): You can do better - This is an old run-down walk-up hotel with bathrooms and showers on the hall, and it is not in nearly as good shape as the pictures make it look. For another $30/night, you can stay across the street at the Hotel Miyako, a "real" hotel with a restaurant, fitness center, parking, and elevators — which is what we did after one night at the Hotel Tokyo
- Kevin (10/5): - Good
- anil (4/5): - He don't hava parsnal restroom is only 1 public restroom overrule is nat good
- Hamza (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cherif (8/5): - The hotel is quiet and clean. The staff are helpful.
- Richard (5/5): Passable -
- Noah (10/5): - Very nice staff!
- Alexander (8/5): - convenient and not expensive, good for single backpack travellers
- Carmelo (6/5): Decent place to sleep if you have no where else to go - It was close to everything The bathrooms and showers were on the other side of the building
- Andre (9/5): Superb -
- George (10/5): - It was a good place for me to do my paranormal experiments and exercise ESP etc it's a good place to block out noise and only letting the noise you want make sure if you're trying to astral project etc precognition and the Japanese are partially known for it so yeah thanks
- Lily (10/5): - The bathrooms are shared, but the toilets are individual rooms rather than shared stalls, which was a pleasant surprise!! Very close to a lot of delicious food and attractions. We would absolutely stay here again!
- Verified traveler (4/5): Do not recommend - Outdated building.
Due to not having an AC The room was extremely hot all night.
The bathroom and shower was down the hall, which was very inconvenient and a little scary for when I had to use the bathroom in the middle of the night.
- Kameron (9/5): Short but highly enjoyable and relatively comfortable - The hotel is perfectly positioned in distance to Olivera street and the Little Tokyo market area, and has very kind and welcoming staff. Personal preference but i didnt like the squeakiness of the bed I received
- Harry (8/5): - If you're on a travel budget, this place is fine. Inexpensive, clean.
- Nestor (1/5): Bad -
- Isabell (10/5): - It was a nice large room, but one of the bathrooms was leaking water from the toilet onto the floor and there was no ac in the room.
- Gabriel (7/5): Good -
- Jesus (4/5): - Wow The bed was very small. I had never been in a hotel like that. It's good to have different experiences, but I didn't like this one.
- Kyle (2/5): Host unlocked & entered room at night - theft risk - Host unlocked and entered room without knocking at night, after he thought we had left to explore Little Tokyo. When he saw one of us still in the room he lied and said the other had given him our keys. We did not. We would not come back here or feel safe leaving our luggage here.
Other minor issues:
- On a very loud street at night with thin windows (hard to sleep).
- Pillows are very hard.
- Single shared toilet.
- Ceiling fan and light worked at night but not in morning.
Pros:
- Good location to access Little Tokyo/DTLA/Union Station
- Rooms and bedding seemed clean
- Female host in morning was nice and not creepy
- Cortes (10/5): Exceptional - The little desk haha
- Akane (10/5): - The front desk lady was very friendly and it is very safe neighborhood and so many dining options.
- Cortes (10/5): Exceptional - Nice owners Nothing
- Fisher (10/5): Very much so joyed the stay and the staff were very helpful and welcoming - Very cute and quaint looking hotel room perfect and I spend the night and very good location and great price No air conditioning or heating
- Myrzaly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jose (10/5): - very good
- Genaro (10/5): Amazing tbh - Amazing and quaint, super vintage and cute
- Carranza (8/5): Very good -
- Rigoberto (4/5): Terrible stay - Small beds no television, shower or restroom in the room, room very small you have to share restroom and shower with everyone else so really uncomfortable pictures online aren’t real.
- Belinda (10/5): - The staff are very friendly and accommodating. It’s a very old building but well-kept for how old it is, and in a very cultural hot-spot. It’s also very convenient for walking distances everywhere in little Tokyo town.
- Jose (5/5): Bad experience - No TV, No Bathroom inside of the room, No air condicioner, No view, No TV, No Bathroom inside of the room, No air condicioner, No view, ,
Bad smell
- Michael (5/5): Passable -
- Goldfine (1/5): Bad -
- Linda (6/5): - It is ok for this price
- Brooke (10/5): - This is a series of rooms above shops in historic little Tokyo. Almost like a boarding house instead of a traditional hotel. Shared bathroom. No ac (but lots of fans!!). Big Hey Arnold Vibes. The staff is SUPER friendly and courteous. They explained everyone and personally walked me through everything when I checked in. They even gave me a free bottle of cold water when I checked in because it was hot outside. I only stayed 1 night for a work event nearby, it was super convenient to get to and from metro, unhook station, and more. Would definitely stay again for a similar event.
- Fredi (9/5): It was pleasant - The location More choice place for breakfast
- Jill (8/5): - Sharing bathrooms and kitchen might seem odd to some, but I didn’t mind. Sharing the kitchen gave a sense of community.
- gabriela (10/5): - I really liked Little Tokyo hotel because it felt cozy like home, warm welcoming and friendly staff. Upon arrival staff was helpful and showing us the ammenities. There is no hotel parking but the closest and affordable one was 2minute walk from hotel located in (414 E Temple St.) For $10/day, safe parking.
Bathrooms are shared with all guest in hotel but there was no problem with waiting your turn as they have a couple showers and bathrooms available.
Overall it is a very safe and affordable hotel and was many food and bar options right outside the hotel.
- Hong (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manuel (10/5): - nice
- Dunte (7/5): overall it was a descent stay - I loved the old fashion vibe they had I didn't like the shared bathrooms
- Trish (2/5): Basic -
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Erik (8/5): - What I liked about the property was that it was a little cozy place, in the middle of Downtown LA. However, it does find itself in a shady area. Parking is also a challenge as its not included. Its very practical as the rooms are a little on the small end, and bathrooms are shared.
- george (2/5): - Sub-standard!
- Yuriko (10/5): - Great staff, great safe option
- byron (10/5): - The staff are very gentle and respectful, I arrived early sweating in the LA heat with a 100 kg bag and they booked me in early so I can refresh. The room was clean and the facilities are clean.
- Helen (10/5): Great location and value for money - Have stayed before and has great location. We enjoy the neighbourhood
The hotel is always clean which is amazing considering they are shared bathrooms. Comfortable bed. Would stay again. Was in an extreme heatwave 104f and no aircon but knew before, that was the case 3 fans in the room. Note-there are stairs to carry bags up
Staff are very helpful
- Michael (8/5): Read Amenities! - The staff and service was excellent, we did not read that there was no air conditioning and bathrooms were communal but otherwise clean… Fridge in room was good but no tv. It was good that it’s a walking distance to every where, room was clean too.
- Aaron (6/5): - Everything was great except the air conditioners were not working in the building and it was 103 degrees outside. The staff was great, though, but we couldn't sleep in such heat.
- ethan l (10/5): - This stay was totally lovely. Very warm and accommodating management and staff. Incredible location. Great value.
- Karim (7/5): Good - Great staff, thank you so much :)
Excellent location with a lot of restaurants in the street Everything that is said before : no AC, the smell…but you get what you paid for.
- Victoria (8/5): We had a great time, everything was amazing and it was such a good price - It was located perfectly, the staff was super nice, shower and bathrooms were perfectly good and the neighbourhood Little Tokyo is so lovely and safe. Mini fridge in the room was very nice! We checked out at 11am but had a couple hours before we needed, and the front desk were lovely and kept our bags secure until then, very sweet. It was a bit hot due to there being no air condition (historical building so they are not allowed to install)
- R (3/5): Poor - Check in, location and staff No airconditioning on a sweltering summer night.
Sharing bathroom.
- Nicholas (10/5): - Friendly staff; good location.
- Claudia (9/5): Superb - It's so clean and the staff is so nice. No air conditioning, but they have fans in the rooms.
- Shakhbandaryan (4/5): Disappointing -
- Yeo (1/5): Too old for this price with run down facilities - Location is good in the middle of little tokyo Very old and rooms had mouldy smell. No air conditioning and bed was uncomfortable
- Jing (6/5): In general, convenient location for a short stay is ideal for the seasons other than the summer. - The location is close to the public transports, including metro, bus. It is also in the walking distance to the LA downtown. The eateries surrounding are affordable and mainly Japanese cuisine. There is no air conditioning in the property. It is hard to deal with the heat in the extreme summer weather.
- Araceli (10/5): - The workers are very friendly clean and safe …
- Carlos (6/5): - My only issue was not having air conditioning and bathroom in the rooms. Place need some upgrades.
- Hugo (7/5): Good -
- Engin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Verified traveler (10/5): - I wish the AC was working as it was not when I was there.
- Brandon (2/5): - Room didnt have no bathroom nor shower in unit, neither did it have a tv nor fridge.
- Curry (1/5): Bad -
- Cathy (7/5): Great location for food. Within walking distance of Union Station and Arts District - Hotel is close to Union Station and Arts District, and in the heart of Little Tokyo The rooms only have fans, no air-conditioning
- George (7/5): Good -
- Lauren (2/5): - The personal is nice, but it’s almost impossible to sleep in the hotel. Rooms are really small, they have no AC.
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - I liked how the hosts were very courteous. The sink wasn't working, besides that it is everything I would expect from a two-star hotel. Just understand, there is no TV, and the bathroom and shower is separate from the room, you share it with other people.
- Milagros (10/5): - Nice service
- Atlanta (7/5): Good -
- Ophelia (10/5): - nice quiet area in little Tokyo, next to a bunch of stores and dining. staff was super accommodating and even though there was no ac, they provided us with an extra fan to improve ventilation. didn't drive but it's a short walk from the metro (I believe no parking) but there is a lot within like a 5 minute walking distance. really enjoyed the stay!
- Edward (2/5): - no ac, only had 1 power outlet. Hot & uncomfy beds.
- Iliana (10/5): Perfect for a long stay. - This is the second year I've booked an longer stay (Anime Expo) and for the value and location, I highly recommend staying at this hotel. It is located in Little Tokyo and is less than a 5 minute's walk to the metro station which will directly take you to the Pico Station located right next to the convention center. Keep in mind that bathrooms & showers are shared spaces, but they are well-maintained. I also used the laundry facility (keep in mind, coin laundry) and found it very convenient. I would highly recommend this hotel if you are looking to stay near the Little Tokyo area and will be using the metro systems.
- Joseph (8/5): - The Little Tokyo Hotel was less expensive than others, it was like a dorm room with shared bathroom and showers.
- Dario (10/5): Exceptional - It doesn’t have AC
