Guest Reviews
- Frantisek (9/5): - friendly approach. was able to send luggage to another accommodation The soap was ordinary solid in a dirty box. They should buy liquid with a dispenser. It would be nicer.
- William (10/5): I would stay here 10 out of 10 times while visiting Tokyo. It’s an easy train ride into the city. You have a 7/11 ri - The old school feels, the owner was super friendly and helpful
- Jeffrey (10/5): Traditional ryokan in a great location run by a wonderful owner - This ryokan was very traditional and fun to stay in. The location is great, non-touristy and very near Koiwa station (easy to get to Tokyo Station), and a side street near the train station had lots of restaurants that we wanted to eat at. But the best part of this ryokan is the owner - he is so friendly and nice, and happy to talk with my wife and I in both English and Japanese. We'd like to come back with the rest of our family someday!

- Darina (10/5): -
- Chung Yin (7/5): - Thank you for hosting me!!
- Jack (10/5): - The location was close to big parts of Tokyo, but it wasn't too busy. The rooms were big and were clean. The guy working there and running everything was wonderful Slightly uncomfortable beds, but that's to be expected since I'm used to padded beds
- Nana (10/5): -
- HIROSHI (8/5): -
- Troy (10/5): A beautiful Ryokan! Great part of the city with no tourists and easy train station access -
- Christina Nguyen (10/5): - the owner keeps your keys when you go out so he can clean your room for you! he's extremely helpful and kind :) the room was much much bigger than i expected, it felt almost too luxurious for the price i paid.
- Miiko (10/5): Affordable, clean, and provides everything you need - Location was close to the train station. Lots of places to eat and a general store about 5-10 minutes of a walk. The train station also had a nice little mall.
The ryokan Fuji was clean and nice. Room is restocked with tooth brushes and towels daily that was nice.
The man managing the property was very kind and helpful There is a curfew and if your late you have to wake up the worked to get in. Having a key or something to come and go so you don't have to wake them would be good.

- paul (10/5): Very enjoyable experience in a traditional Japanese ryokan. - Everthing! This includes the extremely nice and helpful host. Also, the location was a good opportunity to experience a different part of Tokyo that most visitors do not see, while still being not far from the center of the city. A short walk to the railway station, and lots of stores and restaurants of all kinds nearby.
Rien.
- Kirke (9/5): Really good quality budget accommodation - Quiet, authentically Japanese, very clean, spacious and an ensuite bathroom Location - a bit far away from central Tokyo
- Michelle (10/5): it was extremely relaxing, and emotionally healing. - The room was bigger than I expected, and the sitting area was so nice and relaxing. The tea was wonderful, I was surprised to find the tea set. The staff was very helpful and kind. It's hard to think of anything bad. It was a bit odd to have the owner hold my key when I came and left though.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional - The host is very sweet and available. The room is very comfy and in a traditional japanese style. The key of the room must be return to the host every time, we go out. But the host wake up at any time so it's not a problem
- Tom (9/5): Lovely hotel - The owner was great.
- Mary (10/5): Traditional Japanese style stay, friendly and clean. - I stayed here 5 nights and it was comfortable and super clean.
There is a flight of stairs to the rooms, but the owner brought my luggage up on a mini lift.
The owners can speak English and are really kind and helpful. They even loaned me an umbrella when it was raining.
I would absolutely stay here again. ♥ They don't offer any meal service, but that is offset by the fact that there is a convenience store right across the street which has a surprising variety of freshly made foods, as well as many small restaurants and bars on the way to the station.
- Lili (10/5): We enjoyed staying in a comfortable place near a train station. - We are grateful to the proprietor of the establishment. Masa-san was incredibly accommodating and willing to explain so much. If you speak English and very little Japanese, you will not have any trouble. The laundry facilities are in good order. The futons on the tatami are very comfortable. The neighborhood is quiet enough and close to a train station.
- Merve (10/5): Exceptional - The host was lovely, room was very clean, overall very good hotel especially for the price
- Omer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Eve (10/5): It was very welcoming and nice introduction to Tokyo - Quiet, clean , relaxing , peaceful
- Evan (10/5): Great Experience at this Traditional Japanese Inn - The owner was very nice and kind. I appreciated that he provides house slippers and greeted us as we came and went. The room was spacious and the bathroom really nice. There is a beautiful garden outside. There was nothing we didn't like everything was perfect.
- Irencio (9/5): Superb -
- Cameron (10/5): A great value for the active tourist. - - Short walk to station. (5 min.)
- Station has a mall. (2 floors, most stores open by 10am, Starbucks opens early 6am)
- Quiet neighborhood.
- Friendly Staff that had answers to my questions about area.
- 7/11 Across the street.
- 45 Minutes to just about everywhere I wanted to go.
- Extra futon's and blankets provided in the room.
- Great bathtub. Nice and deep. Floor drainage.
- Salka (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wendell (10/5): Exceptional - Comfortable atmosphere
Quiet location
Close to transit
Nice and friendly host
- Joshua (9/5): Superb -
- Kimsovann (9/5): Superb -
- Roslyn (10/5): The owner is delightful and extremely helpful. - The place was located on a poorly lit street. It was not close enough to the train station.
- Regan (9/5): Great for a first time experience in Tokyo - Good size room for a solo traveller, great host very helpful, reasonably accessible to a good train line. Good food nearby. Accessible but still a bit far. Something to contend with but no real problem.
- Shaima (10/5): Exceptional - The host was very friendly and the room was clean.
- Glen (9/5): Superb -
- Lucas (10/5): Excellent room and service, highly recommend - Wonderful service and lovely room. Host was so kind and hospitable, room was very tidy and comfortable. A short walk from the train station, a 7-Eleven across the road and a beautiful neighbourhood all around.
- Joanne (8/5): Very good -
- Christina (9/5): It’s a very cute and comfortable place to stay and the staff were so nice and considerate! -
- Margot (8/5): Wonderful host for a traditional ryokan experience - The host was delightful. We enjoyed the traditional ryokan experience. It was nice to have lots of space and completely separate bathroom and toilet. We discovered futon mattresses were not for us.
- Raul (8/5): Comfortable accommodations in Shin Koiwa - Ryokan Fuji is a comfy stay close to Shin Koiwa station. I booked here since I wanted to use the Chuo-Sobu line to access Nakano and Akihabara for last minute shopping trips. I think if you need to cut East/West across Tokyo, this can be a good option that doesn't have many transfers. It also a good option if you need to transfer to Haneda airport, as I did.
Its hard to review the pricing since I had to book my stay for Golden Week, but it seemed to be good value compared to other options available at that time. Golden Week generally means that inner city bookings become very pricy, so staying in Shin Koiwa was a decent compromise for my budget.
Right outside the hotel is a konbini which can come in handy for a quick resupply. Share bikes are available in the area via Hello Cycling(and maybe other options; I didn't check). I used Hello Cycling to bike toward Tokyo Disney and then back up toward Akihabara which was pleasant.
It seemed to be a one man operation during my stay. The host was accommodating and always seemed to be available quickly. I was never left waiting for anything and he was able to handle any minor troubles I had.
The room is clean and comfortable, and has a nice Japanese aesthetic to it. The bathroom and shower were clean and worked as expected.
There is a small selection of Manga which was nice. The futons isn't the most comfortable, but I was able to stack two and sleep well.
There is a 23:00curfew to be aware of, which can be troublesome if you are a night owl with no set plans; but you can speak with the host in advance to stay out later. In that case, you will receive a code for the side door that lets you return past door locking time.
- Diogo (10/5): Comfortable, very home-like to me, reliable and super convenient. - Traditional Japanese accommodation, I felt at home and the AC is perfect. I loved everything about this. Nothing. It was amazing. I will be back
- Walker (10/5): Exceptional - Very accomodating host. Short walk to station to connect to the wider Tokyo area. Needed to bother the host to return late and get room key back. Possibly, a code lock on the door would work better.
- Katherine (10/5): Amazing, kind, helpful, absolutely lovely - This was such an amazing place to say. The host Masayasu was so kind and helpful, and he made us feel at home. We are so thankful for such a wonderful experience. We hope to return again!
- Hok (9/5): Superb - The host Mr. Hori is very nice and friendly
The room is very clean and comfortable Nothing
- Love'scave (10/5): Lovely place, thank you for your work ! - - The hospitality of the host
- The neighbourhood is really calm
- You are protected from mosquitos here
- I found it a lovely way to recover from the jet lag... Windows can be covered. The room is then really dark, even during lunch time.
- If you leave the ryokan during the day, a cleaning service will take place.
- There is a froide in the room
- The Tea set included is lovely
- There is a small surprise when you leave - You have to return your key to the host when you leave
- There is no key to enter by yourself. If you come late, you have to wake up the host to access your room :(
- Marc (10/5): WE love the walk to the Ryokan from Kiowa station and its unique charm of the small neighborhood. This is a place for pe - We chose it for the Ryokan type facility. Typically, Ryokans are larger than the typical Japanese hotel rooms. This was ample and pleasingly clean. We loved the 711 across the street. Nothing except we had to bother the owner when coming in at late hours.
- Maisa (9/5): Very nice place to stay and be outside of bustling Tokyo! - Located on a quiet street in a Tokyo suburb, Ryokan Fuji was a wonderful place to stay on the first leg of our trip. It was very comfortable, and the proprietor was extremely kind. It was a bit far from Tokyo, and the curfew made things a little bit difficult to plan evenings, as we didn’t want to disturb anyone while coming in.
- Marion (8/5): Over all it was comfortable still and great experience to try staying on a ryokan great value for money and great hospit - The owner was very nice, hospitable and caring to his customers I guess the part that I have to leave the keys to the owner everytime i have to go out guess that's part of the security and have to let the owner know that will br coming back late which kinda feel bad at the same time like disturbing one's sleep for trying to get in
- Keeley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Céline (10/5): Great and peaceful week - The owner was very kind and considerate! You can't find a better accommodation for that price. The neighborhood was nice and quiet. Koiwa Station to directly go to Akihabara and other parts of Tokyo was only ten minutes away by foot.
- Eero (9/5): Superb - Mr Hori was very kind and helpful and communicating with him in english was easy.
- Ana (9/5): Nice ryokan experience. - It was a quaint Ryokan which we wanted to experience- with tatami mate and traditional beds on the floor and really low table and "chair" on the floor! Nice to experience this in Japan. Fantastic service by our innkeeper. Lots of good restaurants and convenience stores in a residential neighborhood. Quiet and relaxing. Arigato gozaimasu! It is a little out of the way in the Edogawa area but strictly speaking only 30 minutes by subway to Tokyo Station or to Ginza and the major metropolitan hubs
- Hal (10/5): Much happier I stayed here than anywhere more tourist-based in the centre! - Beautiful property and room, and a kind patient and caring host. It is easy to access the centre from the nearby station, but the area of the Ryokan is very special too, with loads of delicious Izakaya’s nearby! N/A
- Rebecca (10/5): Staying at this Ryokan for my first trip to Japan made for an unforgettable experience - The host was incredibly kind, patient, and helpful. The room was the perfect size for two people, the facilities all worked well, and everything was clean! Nothing!
- Stephen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Stephen (9/5): Superb -
- Pavel (10/5): Overall, great value for money especially if you're a solo traveller on a budget. - I had a lovely stay in a traditional Japanese room. Normal western hotels are boring, you're in Japan after all. The host speaks some English (which really is not a given here at all) and he was very friendly. The futon was comfortable and I had no back problems at all. It's 20-35 minutes away by train from the major attractions, but for the price I'm not complaining. The train station is 5 minutes away anyway, so it wasn't even a problem.
- James (10/5): We would like to stay in this hotel again. - This hotel did not provide breakfast. My kids were excited to stay in such a Japanese style hotel. It was so good. If it provides Japanese breakfast it would be better.
- Hope (10/5): Exceptional -
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very friendly and accommodating to foreigners. There was no access to the building after 9pm . If you wanted to get back in you had to ring and disturb the owner. He was absolutely fine with me coming in late but I felt bad disturbing him at 2am , so a key method to open the main door would be very helpful.
- Landon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Anonymous (10/5): Perfect - The owner is so sweet and helpful, the property is comfortable and quiet and super clean. Not near attractions that im interested in
- Desley (5/5): A convenient place to stay, but probably only worth experiencing the Ryokan for 1 night. - The position was great and in the heart of old Tokyo and the host was nice. We were expecting a more total experience with meals, tea etc (as extras), but it was room only. As the result the novelty of sleeping on the floor and having no real chairs quickly wore off.
- Tyson (10/5): Amazing! - The owner of this hotel is a very courteous and helpful man. He speaks english, always welcomed us with a smile gave us recommendations when we needed it.
The garden cultivated is beautiful, and the styling of our room is exactly what we were looking for.
Would book again. N/A
- Siddhartha (8/5): Very good -
- Ralph (10/5): Welcoming, clean and comfortable at great value. - Very helpful and friendly manager who communicates well in English. Convenient location to restaurants, food and convenience markets, train station. Room and entire building kept immaculately clean. Luggage storage post-departure was a big plus. Overall an excellent ryokan experience in metro Tokyo at great value.
- Alan (9/5): Comfortable place for your trip! - The ryokan was clean and well maintained, and my room was spacious (for Japan). The shutters do a very good job blocking out light when you want to sleep in. The host was very kind and diligent about helping me with my bags, cleaning my room, and seeing me in and out. Could have used a microwave. Area around the train station is a bit sketchy.
- Claudia (10/5): Best place I stayed on my Japan trip - For one month I traveled all around Japan. Tokyo, Kinugawa Onsen, Yamagata, Kyoto, Nara, Osaka, Koyasan, Hiroshima, Sendai
... For the end of my trip, I chose this beautiful place based on the good reviews and nice pictures.
It was beautiful and amazing. First because of the kindness and cheerful personality of the owner. He was always very helpful and attentive, a real example of the hospitality and thoughtfulness Japan is famous for. He always welcomed me with a smile and made me feel like home.
Then, the hotel itself and the room. It was quiet, comfortable, and clean. The architecture of the room makes it all very comfy (bath/shower, sink are WC separated). The room itself was the most spacious I stayed in, with futons and sheets that were inviting to rest. The towels were beautiful and fluffy.
Lastly, the location. Some people would give this ryokan a second thought because it is not close to the popular neighborhoods around the Yamanote line. In reality, it is incredibly close to Akihabara and Tokyo station, and 10min or less away from the metro. This facilitates your trips around Tokyo if you want to visit other cities.
Thank you for your Omotenashi, the good tea, and the amazing room.
- Christina (10/5): Exceptional - The staff was extremely kind and the location was perfect. It was close to the trains, buses, and delicious restaurants! In fact, we were able to catch a bus straight to the Haneda airport for 1100 yen from the train station (which was about a 5-10 min walk from the ryokan). The space was extremely roomy and clean with helpful amenities (like a mini fridge). We loved our stay!
- Heiko (9/5): A friendly, convenient and quiet hotel in eastern Tokyo. - The landlord is outstandingly friendly. He speaks good English. He is exceptionally flexible (e.g. I once returned late, and he had already prepared the keys for me to pickup) and shows a keen intent to provide complete customer satisfaction.
The rooms are clean, the futon is great to sleep on. There's a water cooker and good tea provided in the room, plus TV and fridge. Best thing: There's air condition with an English manual.
The hotel is quiet, and so is the neighborhood. There are a lot of konbinis and a supermarket within a 100m radius. Also, there are very diverse restaurants located along the main road.
The next JR train station (Koiwa) is less than 500m away; access by train is easy even with suitcases, because there are no steep kerbstones. It is easy to find the hotel; there's a clear sign on the main road. Distance between Koiwa station and Akihabara is less than 20 min (7 stations; the line also takes you to Shinjuku within another 9 stations).
- Liam (10/5): Exceptional - The host is the most wonderful and accommodating person. Made the stay extremely enjoyable and even helped me find some exceptional local restaurants for dinner.
- Lauffer (7/5): Lovely authentic Ryokan - Authentic Ryokan lovely room and tea set with tea A bit far out of town but metro was close
- Kerra (10/5): Exceptional - The ryokan was clean and the host was AMAZING and kind!!! Facilities were beautiful and well maintained. N/a
- T. (9/5): Definitely recommend - The staff was kind, the room was pretty, the toilet & bath were seperate, close to train station, close to 7 11, the room was clean. There were manga and guidebooks . It was a bit noisy
The train station is only local trains
- Kerstin (10/5): Amazing place to stay! - The owner is such a sweet and welcoming person. He took all our luggage and backpacks into the room, which was really thoughtful.☺️💗
This place is so beautiful, clean and the futon is very comfortable. We had a bathroom with a tub and a separate toilet in a different room.
I recommend it to everyone who wants to visit Japan on a budget~ It's family owned and close to a train station and a 7-eleven. \(^u^)/
Everything works well and I really like the air conditioning. The tea set is cute. We also have a fridge, TV and kettle and wardrobe. This place is very easy to find if you follow google maps on your phone.
The rooms got cleaned every day and that made me really happy! They really care for the customers a lot and try their best. There was not really anything I didn't like!
The hair dryer was a bit slow, but that didn't bother me too much. I experienced nothing negative there. :)
- Jana (10/5): Recommend - The gentleman that runs the ryokan is one of the kindest people I have met. He made sure our stay was perfect. The location is also great as it is such a short walk from a JR station. The ryokan feels like an oasis in the busy city.
- Atikan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anonymous (10/5): Absolutely loved it! - The host was very nice and friendly, would definitely recommend and stay here again. there was nothing to dislike. everything was exceptional
- Vicki (10/5): Delightful Friendly Ryokan - The owner is very welcoming and really helpful.
The Ryokan is one of the best small Ryokans I have stayed in. There are good facilities in this area and not too busy.
- Mike (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (9/5): Superb - Traditional style room and accessories. Clean and comfortable. The room is big compared to the usual modern hotel rooms and would be more than enough for two sharing.
Charming manager / owner who was extremely polite and very helpful.
Hotel very close to the station, making this an ideal place to stay. Local shops are varied. 7Eleven literally opposite.
- Marcus (10/5): To say service was outstanding would be an understatement - Location was convenient to everything I needed
- Samuel (9/5): Absolutely worth it for the location and price! - Lovely stay! I would definitely recommend it. The host was absolutely wonderful and I enjoyed my time fully there. really Ryokan style beds and rooms. The front doors would close after a certain time at night, so if you stayed out later, the host would stay up to let you in.. Kind of inconvenient to be honest, but he would graciously stay up to let you in!
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional - Very cozy environment and very nicely maintained.
