• Deon (10/5): Our Home from Home - Our hosts, Alen, Gail, and Marcus, were exceptionally friendly, accommodating, and always willing to help. It is always such a pleasure to stay at this guesthouse, which has truly become our second home. The property is situated in a neat, quiet, and safe area, and is beautifully decorated with tasteful antique furniture and charming décor — a very special experience indeed. Our room had recently been renovated, and it was wonderful to see how the owners continually update and maintain the house. The room, with its en-suite bathroom, was spacious and furnished with lovely antique pieces. We had all the amenities we needed, including a TV with full DStv. We also had access to a fridge, microwave, and cutlery in the dining room. Breakfast was superb, with a generous selection of items — many thanks to Gail and Marcus. The view over the garden and pool was a delight. We felt completely at home and very secure, and we always look forward to our next visit. Safe parking inside the property was an added bonus. The guesthouse is conveniently close to shopping centres while still offering a peaceful, secure environment — truly a gem. We are already looking forward to our next stay. None

• Deon (9/5): Upper Houghton Guesthouse – our Home From Home - Gail and Marcus are the greatest hosts - attentive, always available, and they walk the extra mile for their guests. Each time we stay at this guesthouse do I wish I could stay longer. It is always an amazing experience to stay in this beautiful home – all rooms (lounge, dining room and bedrooms) are beautifully decorated with the most beautiful antique furniture and decorations. This property is situated in a very safe neighbourhood. Our room was fully equipped with the amenities we needed – these amenities in the room and bathroom were neat, clean and fully functional. Our room had a tv with satellite channels to choose from. We had access to the fridge, microwave and cutlery in the dining room. The view over the garden with pool was a delight to the eye. Breakfast was served on time and was absolutely delicious – big thanks Gail. We are indeed looking forward to our next stay. Nothing

• Aidan (1/5): Stay away - The photos do not represent the condition of the guesthouse. We asked if we could arrive early and got there at 12:00 to drop our bags off. The location is shocking. We were not allowed to our rooms as apparently they were not ready. The place is very rundown. The smell was unpleasant. The motorised gate does not work as, in the hosts own words, he prefers to manually open and close the gate to prevent tailgating by potential hi-jackers. We did not stay and chose to go to another guesthouse. I asked the host for a refund of some sort but have not heard from him since.

• Trudine (10/5): Warm and friendly hosts at a lovely property in a safe neighbourhood made my stay a memorable one. - This property is excellently situated in a very safe neighbourhood. Property is fully equipped with solar as to not be affected by the load reduction in Johannesburg's power grid. The hosts are friendly, helpful and supportive of all your needs and wants. Breakfast was served on time, and as per our instructions. All the amenities in the room and bathroom were neat, clean and fully functional. The swimming pool was an absolute bonus, as we experienced a heat wave during our stay. The host was also very accommodating by washing our clothes mid-week. This property fully met all my requirements and therefore I have nothing negative to report.

Rooms were good Allowed me to book an extra night without much problem Manual gate. They didn't give a key or remote so you always had to text them to open. One day I waited over an hour at the gate to be left in because he didn't have service. The day I was leaving, I had to wake them up to be let out. They also lock the main door and you sometimes feel locked in. It felt like I had parents watching over me at times... I asked if I could do laundry and what price. She countered saying whatever you'd like to donate. So I suggested R100 which she said was good. Then when I bring it in the morning, she made a snarky comment saying "R100 is not enough" and tried to guilt me into donating more to the church. I decided not to do laundry. No Aircon

• Deon (10/5): A guesthouse to be visited - Home From Home - Our hosts, Allan and Gail, were simply excellent – caring, loving, attentive, always available, and were focused on the experience they gave us. They made us feel comfortable and at home right from the moment we arrived. The house is a classic oldie filled with charm and the most beautiful antique furniture throughout – making it a unique, beautiful and a pleasant place to stay. It provides a very relaxed atmosphere, and we felt safe and at home – truly a home away from home. The property provides plenty of security - parking is safe and convenient, and rooms are equipped with an alarm and security buttons. Our room was large, had a high and pattern printed copper ceiling, and the king size old framed wooden bed was very comfortable. Our room was filled with the most beautiful antique furniture, just like the rest of the house – antiques one does not get to see often. The ensuite bathroom offered a large shower as well as an island bath. Wifi was great and a good number of DSTV channels were available in each room. The dining area offered enough facilities to heat up your meal or store items in a refrigerator. The breakfast was very good and was provided at a time convenient for us. We are planning on retuning to this establishment again this year – we gladly recommend this guesthouse to all travellers. Nothing.

The service received is a real rarity. The garden was beautiful with a great blue pool, couldn't really enjoy it as it was a rainy weekend. The breakfast options were great. The network in the area was quite bad, this is no fault of the Guesthouse of course. Coming and going was a little difficult due to not being given a remote to access and leave the guesthouse.

He was very prof - The Victorian theme of the guesthouse, it’s like you take a step back in time. Also loved the high ceilings There is not covered parking, they gate has to be opened manually so it would be a hassle for the workers to open for you should you want to come back late. The pool are could use some remodelling and maybe an umbrella for the table in the pool area

• Eyal (10/5): Perfect in all categories! - Hello guys, I came to Johannesburg to enjoy a safari in the area and I am very happy that I made the right choice in this great guesthouse and the exceptional treatment I received from the owner here. The price is good, the area is considered one of the richest in Johannesburg and also a quiet and safe area. The guesthouse is about a 20 minute drive from the airport and the room and the guesthouse are simply outstanding! The breakfast is amazing!! Huge! There is simply everything from everything and what you ask for, you get! I must mention the great attitude from the owner Allen and his son Marcus and the Madam Gail who just help you and your side in everything you ask and need! You have "Dad and Mom" ​​here. I arrived in the winter season, when I got confused and thought it was summer :) Allen took me in his Mercedes to the mall and I bought a coat and training pajamas and helped me with everything I needed, bank, money exchange, etc. The owners are always available and you are not alone. I highly recommend! If it was possible to give a rating of 12, I would :) We had power outages 3 times a day, about 3 hours each time from the country state, so when there is a power outage, there is no Wifi, no TV, no heating and no air conditioning.
