A special thank you to Cinthia and Esperanza, who run the crafts by the pool each day. They were incredibly patient, warm, and engaging with our kids, and our children absolutely loved participating in the activities. It was so nice that the crafts were available poolside, allowing our kids to stay outside with us rather than having to go indoors to the kids’ club. This was a huge plus for our family and made the experience more relaxing and enjoyable for everyone.

- 155ericag (10/5): If you want to sit by a beautiful pool and soak in the sun, this is the right place - Overall we had a great stay. It's a great place if you want to simply relax by a beautiful pool for a few days. If I could give it a 4.5 or 4.75. I would give this score to reflect that the food was "meh" (consistently bland) and the shower had some pressure and heat issues (possibly due to capacity crowd as it got better our final day). Additionally the lounge chair situation was unnecessarily annoying because of their policy of allowing guests to grab chairs early morning and hold chairs for the full day. The gym had sufficient machines but no view so if you like a serene setting for the gym, this isn't it. The spa was beautiful. One day housekeeping hadn't cleaned one of the rooms even at 5pm and another day at 3:30 they still hadn't gotten to our room. As I mentioned, they were at peak capacity. The property is beautiful but be aware that there is nothing much to do on site except sit by the (very beatiful) pool. The beach by the hotel is relatively small. It is pretty to overlook the water but other hotels near us had much wider, more inviting sandy beaches. Also to note, the hotel is a long drive (about 30 minutes) from the main area with hotels and tourist restaurants so if you want to eat off site, the recommended restaurants are a good distance away. Rooms are generously sized and I appreciate that there is room to unpack. The dressers are in the bathroom space, which works well if you have an earlier riser and don't want to wake the other inhabitant. Overall the staff was very warm and they were well staffed, even with peak crowds. We were there for peak winter travel days between Christmas and NYE. We were not happy when we arrived and learned that everybody reserves their lounge chairs starting around 7am and even though people are gone for hours, the chairs stay reserved. I would urge the hotel to reconsider this policy. Many chairs were empty for hours on end while other guests had to make do with locations that were shady by afternoon. To their credit, they remedied the situation after our first day by finding maybe 100 extra lounges (not as nice as their usual ones) which they added to the set up to ensure there were sufficient lounges for all guests. The pool areas are beautiful and the two pools are very large so even with a lot of people in the pool, there is plenty of room. One of the pools was heated. It was also nice that there were 4 large hot tubs adjacent to the pool. The pools have a large ledge that is shallow which works well for little kids and parents so the parents aren't stuck at a kiddie pool. The food was a little disappointing, overall bland.
- JJM2207 (4/5): Waldorf should remove their name from this property. - I should have listened to the reviews that talked about the horrible food - it was awful. But you can read that in plenty of reviews, a hand in hand issue with that is that it is a 30 minute (on Sunday evening) to 45/ 60 minutes (@ 130 USD for a family of 4 taxi) any other day to get to the restaurants in the hotel zone (basically all of the ones you would want to go to). So you feel trapped but if you stay you will be miserable. The beach is tiny, the restroom facility in the pool area is unventilated and smells really bad. There was a pet stain (huge) on the hall carpet for the entirety of our stay, mold in the grout in the showers, and for the New Years Dinner there was almost no service, I will try to upload a video I took from that night that shows empty drinks and zero staff walking around. To do all of the "water sports" you have to leave the hotel. Our room wasn't serviced several times even though we said we would be leaving the room in 30 minutes, one day it was serviced because I called for it. There are two towel/ bathing suit/ robe hangars on the walls.... so you end up with towels everywhere, bathing suits draped in strategic spots, etc. Very strange for a 3 year old property. I have seen multiple reviews that just have a name and rate this hotel the highest rating and I really question those if they are real. Also, the manager on New Years said that it was a 4 star hotel, not 5. I would say 3 at best. Positive side, the wait staff for breakfast was great as were the staff at the pool.

- saracU6243ZQ (10/5): Excellent kids programming - We’ve loved our stay over NYE 2025. We traveled with our 5.5 yo and have especially loved the children’s programming to break up our day. Specifically, Esperanza and Cinthia led crafts and other activities for our son, including painting, candy cane macrame ornament making, and cupcake decorating. I especially appreciated the attention and patience shown by Esperanza when helping my son learn how to make bracelets - he stuck with it to completion thanks to her kindness and willingness to spend extra time with him. Esperanza and Cinthia are both rockstars and absolutely made our stay even more special!

- Bernard224 (8/5): Good, But Flawed, Visit - I hope this review comes out fair. I'll try to give information that I like to know when researching a vacation spot. WA used for Waldorf Astoria. TLDR version. Very nice facility with nice staff, but isolated and the food is way too expensive for what you're getting. It's a four star review, but I wouldn't stay there again. Other Riviera Maya areas (like Mayakoba) have more options. Facility: The rooms were very nice. Clean, nice furniture, wonderful shower (although hot water was spotty at certain times). The same can be said for the common areas. Nice fitness center and the spa looks nice (we didn't use it). The facility lives up to the Waldorf image and expectations. Beach / Pool: Beach is not great. Super tiny, with some seaweed and rough waves. A walk on the beach brings you through some garbage-filled spots with chains sort-of blocking your walk (but you can go through them). Expect to spend your time at the pool. The pools were nice. The patio/boardwalk down by the beach needs maintenance, but otherwise very nice. But, I thought I remember WA bragging that they don't have the 7am sprint to the pool area to reserve seats. That's not true. This is like every other resort where people are throwing their stuff down before 7am only to show up after 10am. They don't seem to have any process or rules regarding reserving chairs and we saw some people chased away from seats that hadn't been touched in the 4 hours we were in the area. They'd be happy to sell you a bed though. Not a nice cabana, just a bed that comes with some drinks for a couple hundred dollars. Staff: Everyone was super nice and accommodating. The only issue I had with staff is that there isn't enough of them. It was hard to find someone to order food/drinks from and it would then take a long time for stuff to come. Breakfast was very understaffed and I found myself getting my own coffee from the complimentary area and bringing my food to the omelet bar if I needed salt/pepper for other items. That lack of staffing did impact the enjoyment of the visit. But, again, everyone we interacted with was great. Restaurants: The restaurants were a miss for us. It's partially WA's fault, and partially the nature of this type of resort. You're pretty isolated at the WA. There's a couple all-inclusives nearby, but you are pretty stuck eating at WA's restaurants. JA'O (Mexican) was good. It was, of course, overpriced, but we enjoyed it. Malpeque was not good at all. It was oddly empty, extremely overpriced and the food was fancy, but not great. Total miss and we decided not to go a second time. Nobody in our group wanted to go there again. We learned that the hotel has special dinners (nobody had told us) and enjoyed one of them outside right by the water (price fix family style / buffet). That was our best meal. We went in to a nearby town and ate at a restaurant called Buba one night. The food was better, atmosphere of walking around town was nice, and it was half the price of JA'O (and maybe a 3rd of Malpeque). But it was expensive to get cars back and forth. That's not WA's problem... but it's a problem with an isolated resort. Other areas in Riviera Maya have other resorts that can be accessed for meals. For example, Mayakoba has a bunch of hotels that allow you to take a shuttle to access different price and cuisine options. WA doesn't have those options and it is a problem.

I’ve been to hundreds of hotels all across the world and ASTORIA CANCÚN, is TOP NOTCH! Kids activities were beyond expectations. CINTHIA and ESPERANZA were outstanding, they both engaged the kids in daily activities, they both were extremely kind and very very attentive and accommodating! Overall this hotel is beyond 5 stars ⭐️

It’s a rip off and top that with horrible service and and added 20-25 percent service fee, how’s that for a tourist trap ? A five star resort dimming and nickeling you and even if you are happy to pay - there is ZERO CARE OR RESPECT TO GUESTS. I would stay away and go elsewhere where guests are valued. Pool service issues. Breakfast issues. Sunbeds issues. No boutique no store to buy anything g extra you have forgotten. Toiletries in the rooms are absolutely zero quality. And housekeeping is as bad as pool service.

Few things can be done better like give complimentary specials for our family celebration occasions. We chose to spend our time here for our wedding anniversary but we didn’t get any such thing that made it special except a hand written note. We attended the yoga session by Veronica Estowillo and she was amazing in taking us through the routine!!

We have three teens and the connecting rooms were perfect. There is no game room or activities for teens so bring books, cards, footballs, etc. Food was very good but odd limited to two dinner spots. The final day emergencies started late by the pool and ordered late lunch for dinner. Beach and pools are great. Service is wonderful. We went into Puerto Morelos for dinner one night Punto Corcho, which was great and not too far! Best meal ever - that place had a Michelin star got good reason. We used Uber XL because it was so much cheaper - just make sure to give information to the desk so they let your driver in.

We had our kids stay there so we visited. Luis the server at the pool made sure our stay is more than perfect every minute. He learned our likes and made sure we don’t have to even request anything, before we asked: it was served to us. He got to know us and we can’t wait to be here because of him. Yelena and Carlos provide wonderful service as well. We booked our stay here for next year already. It’s ideal place for vacation if you enjoy impeccable service and perfect, I mean PERFECT vacations. (Shoutout to the front desk managers and bellmen as well🩷)

While all staff were amazingly attentive, I especially want to recognize the hardest working man at the resort, Javier. He attended to our every need at the pool and the beach. From moving the umbrella so we’d always have shade to always making sure we had a drink in hand and food when hungry. He practically sprints around a vast area for 10 hours straight. Also, Juan Luis, our waiter at Malpeque made a very memorable meal extra special.

- MFL117 (10/5): Amazing and attentive service! - We stayed at the Waldorf Astoria over Thanksgiving. We have never been to Cancun before and wanted to visit the historical Mayan sites of Chichen Itza and Tulum. The concierge emailed us a few weeks before our stay to offer their services. They were very responsive and arranged tours for us. This foreshadowed the excellent service to come. The bellmen, restaurant staff, concierge, reception, pool attendants, and barmen were all very attentive, anticipating your needs, and always smiling. Check in and out were quick and professional. Servando at breakfast remembered my name everyday. The pool attendants would immediately show up to set up your chair. The bellhop made sure to get us when our transportation arrived. One day, they even offered to clean our sunglasses at the pool, which was never crowded. The excellent service really made the experience. Food was excellent. We looked forward to breakfast at Chaya and dinner at Malbeque. The room was spacious and well appointed. The soaking tub in the balcony was amazing to unwind in the evening. Not that it could be helped but the beach was small and narrow. Could be the weather at the time but the water was colder and rougher than Cancun proper. Prices for food and drink were very high. You do pay for luxury.
- TravelerT1111 (10/5): Left me wanting more - This beautiful hotel deserves more than 5 stars. We loved our stay. The service was excellent at nearly every level. I would say that we were by the pool well over an hour when we arrived without any drink service or anyone to come by, which I thought was odd. But aside from that time period there were usually attentive and friendly servers around. Drinks were about $10 US for a local beer that might cost $3 elsewhere, coctails $25 USD on average plus tip. They were interesting and delicious! We did not get popsicles as others have mentioned or anyone offer to clean our glasses. There was ample nice seating, but the beach has really erroded away and is almost non-existant sadly. We had planned to do a walk on the beach, and it was not possible. We had to provide ID to enter the main gate, which was a 10 minute drive from the lobby. Once on the propery we were quickly greeted by name, and sat comfortably with a cold cloth and refreshing drink, while we got checked in like royalty. The property is gorgeous, pristine and with beautiful design and artwork. I have Diamond status with Hilton and our room was upgraded to a suite that had 2 bathrooms, and a large patio facing the water (even though I had booked using a free night award, what a bonus!). The rooms was beautiful and the provided toiletries included a shaving kit, toothbrush kit with tootpaste and more. There was a nice beach purse provided for guest use as well, robes and slippers of course. The room was cleaned when we went to dinner, fresh water placed on our nightstands and turn down service with a chocolate. The view to the water was perfect and stunning. We did not use the little soaker tub outside. We had dinner at Malpeque, which was nothing short of outstanding. The fish of the day was in the $55 per plate range, expensive for sure but it was fantastic. There was an extensive drink and wine menu, the fresh bread was so good! They even gifted us with a treat for my birthday. Fantastic meal. I would say - bring some kind of bug spray, I had bare legs and got I bit by mosquitos/bites sitting outside at dusk. There was live music and a speakeasy that we missed as we were too tired to stay up late. The overall vibe in the hotel was very peaceful and quiet, this is definelty not a place to go if you are looking to party in any way. There was a mix of families and couples, with one small group of young men being a bit obnoxious and they definetly stood out as seeming out of place. The distance to reach the hotel is a Pro if you want a calm and isolated location. The con of course is you can't just get a taxi and no ride shares are permitted, and you are 30-45 minutes away from anywhere to go out. We had to pre-book our driver to go in as well as to leave. The hotel offers drivers at about 3 times the (already very pricey) going rates. For example, we booked a shuttle company to take us to the airport, under a 20 minute drive, and it was $55 USD plus tip. The hotel offers a car for $150, so if that matters to you, pre-book your drivers elsewhere. You will also need to provide the company and driver name to the bellman so that your driver is permited entry onto the property. What else can I mention? Oh the breakfast at Chaya was amazing as well. Diamond status covered the full American breakfast with pastry, fresh juices, lattes, a cold breakfast And a hot meal. (breakfast would have been a spendy $55 USD Per person! But as it was covered we just paid a tip). We were stuffed, but the food was so good we ate it all. The mezcal french toast was rediculously good. I think if you were to have "a few" drinks, a breakfast and a dinner here, a budget of about $400-500 US plus per day/couple would be accurate. Very expensive but I will say the quality was there and the prices are on par with any hotel of this caliber. Our travel for 2026 is already booked but we enjoyed our time at this hotel so much, I am considering sneaking in flying all the way to Cancun *just so we can have a couple more nights at this property. Highly recommended!

Diego, Javier, and Luis help us by the pool and gave us fantastic service. They could not have been nicer or more helpful. The food at Chaya, Malpeque, and Jao was absolutely delicious. You should absolutely get the flank steak appetizer and red velvet churros at Jao. I would recommend to any family or friend group looking to get away to come to this resort. I am very sad to leave!

On 10/22 I booked a one-night reservation for 12/19. Three days later I requested a cancelation. I was informed they have a SIXTY DAY cancelation policy. After requesting to speak with management and communicating with Manuel and Tatiana, I was not given grace to cancel this reservation without a full charge. To be clear, this was not a last-minute cancelation request. This was requested more than 50 days prior to arrival. Terrible policy, and terrible service from this Waldorf.

The entire staff was super amazing the rooms all face the ocean and we got an automatic upgrade without even asking! We were most impressed with the food quality everything is prepared to a meticulous presentation anf the traditional blends were delicious. The staff has a lot of pride and it showed in every detail. Some of the folks we remember are Natalia , Patricia and Alejandro in guest services they went above and beyond in all ways. All the bellman including Eduardo and Jorge and the pool servers including Julio who went out of his way to make sure we had absolutely everything, they all shined. . Conrad Hilton would be more than proud of the incredible team. We have stayed in many hotels all over the world and this was by far the best in all categories Thank you from me and my family we will Definately be back as soon as we can

The accommodations were amazing. The staff made our stay even better! We have a one year old and without asking there was a crib, bottle warmer, and diaper genie in our room when we arrived. My husband forgot medication and the concierge had it ordered and delivered to the hotel. We loved eating dinner at the Mexican restaurant on site. We adore Francisco and Ricardo!!! Diego, Carlos, and Andy at the pool bar were fabulous as well. Patricia even brought down pool toys for our son without being asked. I cannot rave enough about how wonderful our stay was! Thank you!

From the moment we arrived, the staff made us feel like royalty. As Diamond members, we were truly made to feel valued — from the personalized welcome to the thoughtful touches throughout our stay. Hilton properties around the world have treated us well, but the service here was on another level entirely. A huge shoutout to Patricia, the pool concierge, who was warm, attentive, and always one step ahead in making sure we had everything we needed to relax. Similarly, Alejandro, the front desk concierge, ensured we had a bottle washer and even went to get soap off the property so we wouldn’t have to worry about any bottle cleanings. The real star of our trip was Carlos, nicknamed “Goose” - our pool waiter. When we unexpectedly ran out of baby formula, he went far above and beyond — personally ensuring we had more the next morning, and even surprising us with a small baby gift. That level of genuine care and kindness is something we’ll never forget. The resort itself is stunning — modern luxury with a peaceful, tropical feel. The pool and beach areas are immaculate, the food and drinks were expensive but also top notch and the service made them feel worth the cost, as every staff member we met went out of their way to make our stay exceptional. - D8970VHstacyl (10/5): All around great experience. - The staff at Waldorf Astoria Cancun were fantastic. They wanted everything to be perfect and would go out of their way to make sure it was. This extended from check in to restaurants to pool bar to pool side service. The hotel was spotless and our room was great. Loved the balcony soaking tubs. Unfortunately the beach was not ideal. They’re doing their best to maintain it but there was a lot of sea grass and therefore we did not venture into the water much. Also a nice touch is that there are no birds stalking you at the pool or beach for your food. The hotel brings in a hawk with a handler whose job it is to scare off the other birds. We saw them several times walking around. Room service kept us stocked with water and coffee. All the restaurants had great food. We would absolutely go back and talked about doing so. Quick flight from the DC area. Be mindful this is a 5 star property and it’s expensive to eat and drink here. But you get what you paid for and we believe the service and quality was worth the money.

Everyone we encountered was the very best in the industry. The food was amazing! We enjoyed breakfast at Chaya each morning, lunch at the pool bar, and dinners at both Jao and Malpeque. My sister and I splurged on a long girl's weekend at the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya and couldn't be happier that we did. The room was gorgeous, spacious, and spotlessly clean. The restaurants - JA'O and Malpeque for dinner, and Chaya for breakfast and lunch - were fantastic. Each restaurant had a different atmosphere and cuisine, but every meal we had was equal to or better than 5 start restaurants we've enjoyed in places like NYC and San Francisco. The pools and outdoor spaces were serene and beautiful. But what really made our stay special was the staff. Karen, the concierge we interacted with the most, showed such care and kindness during our trip that if we are able to visit Cancun again, she will be the main reason we do so. From helping us get acclimated to the hotel, to helping us find an ATM that worked with our US cards, to recommending the perfect tour of Chichen Itza, Karen was fun, professional, and genuinely welcoming. After mentioning a regional cocktail that I'd once had on a business trip to Mexico City, Karen surprised us with that same cocktail on our last evening of our stay. She followed up promptly and thoroughly with everything which made our stay truly relaxing and special. And I must say that every one of the staff we interacted with was kind, helpful, and genuine in their interactions: The Bellmen Alberto, George, Manuel, Eduardo, and Alejandro greeted us every day by name and kept us company while waiting for tours and taxis. The Restaurant Staff Ivana, Benjamin, Israel, Ricardo, Jefferson, Manuel, Juan Luis and Francisco made fantastic recommendations and went above and beyond to share their local culture. The Bartenders Aciel and Freddy educated us on local culture and even shared their sangrita recipe so we could attempt to enjoy their fabulous drinks at home. The Pool staff, specifically Julio, were attentive and fun. And a special thanks to the room service delivery team who noticed we were watching TV in Spanish (which we barely understood) and took the time to show us how to change the language settings on the TV. I cannot recommend the Waldorf Astoria Riviera Maya enough! I hope you choose to stay there during your trip to Cancun.

From the second my family and I arrived we were greeted by the best people.Eduardo was the Bellman at the time, such a pleasure to have our stay start perfectly. While we waited he gave us this amazing welcome drink, oh boy it was delicious and healthy. Our room was amazing, clean, extraordinary beautiful. Ixsel, did such an amazing job taking care of the room. At breakfast we frequented CHAYA. Ivanna made our breakfast start such a pleasure (each time we went). I cannot tell you enough how great she was. So friendly and accommodating to me and my family. We made it appoint to go there because of her. The food was amazing as well. Irving was our waiter for 3-4 days and he was amazing as well. Then on our last breakfast day Gabriel did an outstanding job as well. EXCELLENT! For lunch and dinner we frequently went to Ja'o. The food was just perfect just like the service. I can't single out 1 particular person there for one, I never wrote down names of our waiters (I'm sorry) but whoever worked Saturday night, Sunday night and Monday night were THE BEST! Tuesday and Wednesday we went to visit The Hilton (thanks to Alejandro for setting it up for us) just because we wanted to try italian food there (I'm italian). That was wonderful as well. However I prefer the tranquility of the Warldorf. Thursday we had to check out. That was a seamless process thanks to Montseirat. She made everything simple and explained everything. All in all, it was by far the best stay my family and I have experienced in our lives. Warldorf, thank you for having a top notch staff.
