Guest Reviews
- Mohamed (10/5): - It’s a hidden gem in LA, this place operate the most safe, fun, generous and professional stay in the city and cheapest too. I really wish them the best and my only advise for the great manager to observe the stuff more to make sure that they all acting friendly as most of them do. And more focus will make the place more batter
- Naazni (2/5): - First of all they should advertise it as a HOSTEL or DORM . It shows up as HOTEL VIBE which is incorrect . Also the door cannot be locked from inside so that was a big red flag for me and so we vacated the room immediately and checked into a Proper hotel chain. Also the air conditioner wasn’t working the temperature setting knob was locked and so we couldn’t adjust it at all when enquired with the front desk they said it is a old building so the air conditioner is not working properly I was traveling with my daughter so we weren’t comfortable staying there at all I had booked for a 3 night stay and they wouldn’t refund also at least for the next two nights so I felt I was cheated by the hotel. very disappointed and a terrible experience from hotels.com I am not sure if I would book through hotels.com
- Tessa (4/5): 2 star, affordable but kinda rough - I don’t like to leave poor reviews, but I have to be honest because i don’t think the reviews I read for this place were accurate. First off it was confusing because it says “Banana Bungalow” outside, not “Vibe Hotel”. The room was dark with fogged windows, and the bed sheets were terrible quality. The fan couldn’t be turned to blow on me while I slept and could only blow into the middle of the room. And the worst part is I saw multiple cockroaches by the bathroom while I was there. Yikes :(
The place did seem clean, and there were no bugs near the bed, but the other factors made staying here a not-so-enjoyable for experience and I would not recommend or stay here again
- Nancy (6/5): You get what you pay for. - Parking garage is 9 and change day. Dorm hostel or hotel room options. Right in heart of West Hollywood so lots of people and traffic. Breakfast. Activities daily. Outdoor seating bar area. Forget sleep as other guests all nite slam doors constantly have loud tv and raised voices for all to hear. Outside Groups of folks form line and gather along 100 numbered rooms I think for outings; some r quiet some super loud and they can c right in rooms so use blinds if so inclined. Bugs in room including huge cockroaches so bring spray or avoid this place. Bed comfortable. Staff nice and most helpful but one. Multi speed oscillating fan is your AC. Laundry with free soap but hotter in basement laundry room. Free spirited folks who stay here so helps if you too r that but no real guests issue. Will I be back. No the huge cockroach was the last straw.
- Jerry (10/5): - Rooms where clean nothing fancy the air conditioning could use an upgrade but I would book it again
- Steven (8/5): - Fun location. Safe parking $9. Decent room. Carters Deli nearby.
- Timothy (4/5): - No a/c only a fan
- Keith (10/5): - Great staff
- Nicola (10/5): - I loved the Vibe Hotel! It’s perfect for a night or two when you’re out and about in LA. Let’s be real… when you’re paying around $100 a night in this city, you’re not booking the Ritz. But what you are getting here is solid: a comfy bed, a full bathroom, and a cool view of Fairfax Ave.
A couple of the towels had some minor stains, but nothing that ruined the experience. Honestly, for the price and location, it’s a great value. I’d absolutely stay here again. Great energy, great community, and it gets the job done when all you need is a place to crash.
- Mickel (6/5): - Beds and bathtub were clean, which was nice. But they need to swiffer the floors at least, as they were not clean.
- Yuriy (10/5): - Great location, spotless rooms, and super friendly staff. Parking was convenient and reasonably priced, which was a nice bonus. The reason for 4 stars instead of 5: breakfast could use improvement, and a couple of nights were disrupted by noisy neighbors. Overall, though, a very good stay and I’d definitely consider coming back!
- Salem Matthew (8/5): - A little older but clean enough and an interesting experience! Lighting could have been better especially for trying to do our makeup though.
- Nate (2/5): - So! This is a hostile. Not a Hotel. It is bare bones. I stayed in room 116 and it is a room with walls, a bed and a bathroom. Also, it had roaches. The little brown ones. They changed my room pretty fast, I'll give them that. But the second room wasn't much better. You have no control over the AC (yet there's a isolated fan in every room), you are in charge of the kitchen, the elevator doesn't work, and two out of the three people I dealt with at the "office" were unfriendly zombies. It was like staying in a dorm. If you're NEVER gonna be in the room but to shower and sleep...ok. knock yourself out. But if you expect it to be an actual hotel, forget it. Stay at Motel 6 or Knights Inn...you'll be glad you did. IF I had anything positive to say; the area is really accessible/walkable, wifi was decent, And the lobby is charming and vintage ... THATS ALL. If you DO decide to stay there, get the upgraded room. It has bunk beds and a bigger bathroom and balcony.
- Ayda (6/5): - One of the bath towels had a red stain. It did look like a blood stain. Pretty gross. Will not stay again there. The staff were very friendly and courteous.
- Brett (10/5): The Banana Bungalow Rocks! - The hotel was very clean. The staff was warm and friendly with one exception. I went to get coffee at 7am on the first morning and there was a young man who was very unfriendly and told me repeatedly that "the kitchen is closed", even though there was fresh coffee ready and available. He was not happy about me getting some. Next time I'll probably bring my own coffee maker.Wednesday karaoke was fun and Jude was really wonderful. I will definitely be coming back. Also Patience was really a sweet soul. Between Jude and Patience they more than made up for the surly one.
- STYLIANOS (4/5): - The hotel is ok but very old and there is no a/c in the rooms. When I checked in the water of the shower was constantly running and I had to change a room.
- Stephen (10/5): - I’ve stayed here a bunch of times over the last 11/12 years and it’s always been a great place to stay! Great location for me…lots of great areas close by! I always tend to meet some great like minded people there too! I always recommend this place.
- Rykeam (10/5): - Saw lots of bad reviews so wasn't going in with the best mindset, thankfully turned out great. The floor of my room had some litter on it, but otherwise was good.
- Jessica (6/5): - Vibe/Banana Bungalow was an OK stay. This is the place for you if you only need a bed to sleep in. Cleanliness was OK, the tile floor didn't seem to be mopped properly, and the bed seemed slept in, it was made, but the sheets were not clean. They didn't have any stains or bad smells, just looked & smelled dingy. Water pressure was very low, and they don't have AC for most of the day, so the room was extremely warm and muggy when we checked in, it was cooler outside than it was inside and the warmth made it difficult for us to fall asleep. This place is probably really horrible in the summer time if they don't run the AC. Staff was overall friendly and the basic cable was nice to chill to.
- Luke (10/5): - Liked listening to karaoke night
- Verified traveler (10/5): Avoid expensive eating out with social atmosphere. - More of a college dorm than a hostel with a full kitchen for cooking including freezers/fridge. Also many amenities (ping pong, pool table, weights, movie room, party room), daily activities, and social areas. Saved so much money going to the two grocery stores near by to buy food to cook in the kitchen/ovens rather than eating out. The only downside is if you’re a tall or heavy person the beds are a thinner spring mattresses, your hip will be sore in the morning.
- Travis (10/5): - I stayed at The Vibe Hotel for 3 nights, it was a really great experience. I highly recommend and will be staying there again. Very affordable and close to a lot of cool things!
- Bruce (10/5): Cedars - Clean, nice, friendly & quaint!
- Heather (10/5): - Loved it definitely will be going back
- John (10/5): - Very good service
- james (8/5): - Good hotel for the basic. Heads up no individual room ac/heat it’s all connected…also just antenna basic channel hahahaha ….but overall good stay
- Christi (8/5): Good enough for our purposes - The staff were friendly, it was clean, and the location was convenient. It's nothing fancy but it served our purposes. We were only there for 2 nights and one of those nights they had a ping pong tournament and food available for purchase. We had tickets to a game that night so we weren't there but it sounded fun and we probably would've participated if we had been there.
- Alan (10/5): Good hotel - Comfortable stay and a nice feel
To the place
- Verified traveler (10/5): A-mazing! - Was so nice and amazing, crazy value for price. They were so so nice , every evening offered a different thing - pizza / BBQ / burgers for free! friendly and young people too, played with me ping - pong , and 8 pool
- John (2/5): - Told I couldn't check in with digital debt cards said they're refund but haven't received
- Jessica (10/5): - Very simple amenities, no AC. But has all the basics and in a great location off of Melrose Ave
- Brian (10/5): - Patience was very helpful and pleasant. He went above and beyond to make my stay great. I’ll book with them again.
- Xavier (8/5): Good for Price - The stay was mid. It has a college dorm vibe. Which I guess I wasn’t aware of when I booked the place. I had a set of bunk beds which was cool! Didn’t need it cause it was just me, but was a nice surprise lol. You are next to a busy street, which I didn’t mind but if you like quiet to fall asleep just be aware. The hallways are all tile so you can hear people walking and the exp of doors opening and closing, and luggage wheels rolling. Again, I didn’t mind but just be aware. Service was good, the guy seemed cool, very laid back. There was a ping pong night happening when I was there. Didn’t go, but something cool if you’re into it.
- Juan (8/5): - Very close to unique dining choices, but csn be loud during events.
- Rostam (8/5): - The only reason I choose this place was because of the bar and nice sitting area, not available all the time and I find only on Friday.
The front desk hinted that in order to obtain a room of desire is to go through their website.
- John (6/5): - Run down
- Thomas (4/5): - The staff rocked!
- Maurice (4/5): Poor service - No room service if you don’t request it and only at certain hours! Extremely noisy
- Douglas (10/5): - Love this place
Modest
High marks
- Tomaz (10/5): Excellent experience PERIOD!!! - I really enjoyed my stay. The cleanliness was excellent. Hotel staff was very courteous and polite. Breakfast was also good. I would definitely recommend this hotel to a friend.
- Andy (10/5): - Stay at private room, staff friendly, room was clean and love all the amenities the hotel offer for the price!
The area around have shops and options.
- Melissa (6/5): - Got to the address; no name of the hotel to be found. Found a business with a key pad entry. Eventually a fellow traveler came and let us in. Turns out it is actually a hostel that uses a different name entirely. Would have been very helpful information to know beforehand! Breakfast was bread. Yep-that is it. Not even butter to go with.
- Mark (8/5): - Not a hotel. Its a hostel with some private rooms. Staff was very nice and helpful. Parking was very tricky and egress to door was unsafe at night due to having to climb a blind ramp/driveway. Bed was uncomfortable but bathroom was fully functional
- Mackenzie (8/5): Hostel/hotel and great VFM - Okay - so first thing. Its called the banana something. - not the vibe hotel. It is NOT a hotel, it's a hostel that doubles as a hotel BUT! i had my own room with shower and bath and balcony so it was pretty much a hotel. Vending machines and a kitchen. Parking is 10 bucks a night so not bad. Staff were cool apart from the one african american girl who hated her job and saw everyone as just an invonvenience. Her breaks are VERY important to her.
Overall - great little place and great vfm.
- jonorose (2/5): Beware possible credit card scammers - This is the same "hotel" as the Banana Bungalow. They have an extremely sketchy booking process where they insist on taking your credit card via an online form with zero security and then make excuses why they can't honor your reservation. Please take care, I would recommend to avoid at all costs.
- jack (10/5): Like a hostel with private rooms - Basic, clean and comfortable, good location right off of Melrose. The lobby has a pool table. Parking for $10 a night or you can find street parking. Great place for a short stay if you aren't too fussy.
- Douglas (10/5): - Great for price and very central
- Ellie (2/5): - Felt unsafe, cockroaches in the room. Dirty.
- THOMAS (4/5): You get what you pay for. - Hostel with private rooms. Was warm in LA and it’s central AC which was not working very well. I ended up leaving and getting a different hotel.
- Dale (8/5): - A very nice alternative to the traditional hotel experience. There is definitely a "youthful" vibe to the place (no pun intended), but that's not a bad thing at all. Was a very pleasant experience staying there and I'd definitely book another future stay
- Chris (10/5): - The energy and convenience was top notch and helpful!
- Chris (10/5): - Great food and bbq and music
- Donnell (2/5): - Pictures don’t match the property
- Dwight (8/5): - Convenient location, clean room, reasonable parking. Good value for the price.
- James (4/5): Don't stay here! - The website pics and descriptions are very deceiving. The facility is old and in need of a major overhaul. They offer no real amenities, not even ice. Their "breakfast" was disgusting, inedible junk food. My room AC consisted of a fan on the wall with a string of illegal patch cords. The shower leaked and flooded the bathroom. Seriously, this place is trash and should be closed down!
- peter (10/5): - was very disappointed that i left my keys which they found and i offered my ups number tovsend back...and they have never done so.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Do not stay here- this place is a scam. - The room was not as pictured- extremely dirty with USED sheets from previous guest. We paid for a queen bed with parking. Got full sized bed and bunk beds all with USED SHEETS ON THEM. Went back downstairs to check out immediately and the receptionist had disappeared. There was no hot water- no parking (although i reserved and paid for a spot) and the entire place is visibly dirty. This listing is a scam, Vibe Hotel is not real. Do not book this listing.
- JD (4/5): - Would be better considered a hostile than a hotel. Do not confuse this Vibe with the other Vibe in Hollywood!
- Matthew (10/5): Funky Spot in Hollywood - Cute spot, hostel-like, daily events, comfy stay.
- Verified traveler (6/5): - Honestly, not that great. Was cheaper than all the other options. This is more like a hostel than a real hotel. I did enjoy the DIY and community spirit it seemed to have. They had free/cheap events they'd put on every day like comedy night etc. While that was cool, if you're just looking for a decent place to crash for the night and you're going for work, don't go to this place. If you're looking for a bit of adventure and are low on funds and you don't mind a somewhat older and crappier building, then this would be a good fit for you.
- Aleck (10/5): - Por el costo la vdd es que estuvo muy bien, ya que no suelo estar en el hotel, limpio y el personal muy amable, cabe mencionar que no es un hotel de lujo. pero cumple.
- Yoram (6/5): - The bed was uncomfortable and the room is clean but very out dadted
- Maureen (2/5): - I didn't like anything about this place. There are no telephones in the rooms. No access to a telephone in case of an e.emergemcy. No bathtub matts when takimg a shower. Elevators were not in working order. It was not a Hotel ad one would think when looking on line. It was a hostle for young travelers. Not for elders
The location is a very run down area with lots if buildings & stores boarded up. A terrible disgrace.
- Thomas (10/5): - Stayed for over 2 weeks, great people to talk too, great events and awesome staff. If you enjoy conversations, meeting new people around the world and having good accommodation. This is the place to be!
- Verified traveler (10/5): Nice Budget Friendly Stay—Quiet - Nice budget friendly stay with amenities that are pleasant.
- RaMond (10/5): - Friendly staff. Breakfast offered. Free events with complimentary beverages. Great stay!
- James (10/5): - If you want to be in a area with a lot of different shopping and eating, you will like it. Not upscale but very cool for an overnight stay.. Loved It
- FELIPE (4/5): - This is not a hotel. It’s a hostel, which is fine but they started charging the same as hotels near which are 5 times better.
- Benjamin (10/5): Loved my stay - Brilliant value
- Christopher (10/5): - Listen, this is a hostel with motel-like rooms, so be prepared for international travelers, drinking with other guests over games of pool, maybe even an amateur comedy show. If you’re into those sorts of things on your travels, this is an outstanding choice.
- Kathleen (2/5): - I did not like anything about this property. It is close to Melrose which is a nice neighborhood but this being only 2 blocks away, I was scared. The rooms have no chain or deadbolt and I was terrified someone would break into the room. The man who checked me in was so rude that he almost made me cry. The only good thing I can say about this dump is I did not get bedbugs and the cleaning people were nice. I would rather sleep in a car at a rest stop then stay at this place again.
- Jonathan (10/5): - cool place nice guest
- Panadda (10/5): - Everything was great
- Che (6/5): - This place is great for location and generally safe and secure. The only MAJOR drawback is that it STINKS for weed. You can't escape the smell. It gets in your room and is nauseating.
- Luke (4/5): Be careful - This place is deceiving. It's a hostel, not a hotel. I didn't actually see any signs suggesting this was the Vibe Hotel... it's all the Banana Bungalow. The man at the front desk was the rudest I have ever met when staying in accommodation. The office had misplaced my booking details but he automatically and aggressively blamed me. I insisted he look again and luckily he realised his error. The luggage room was not securely locked.
I had my own room thankfully. It wasn't super clean but was acceptable. The layout of the building appears to be some kind of old hospital or medical facility. The bed was fine besides a mattress cover that made it really hot. The property claims to have central air conditioning but I never felt it on. The room was stuffy but ok if you opened a window during the day. The hostel is on a busy road but I wasn't too bothered by the traffic. The location is decent to get around to different parts of LA (close to buses) and to some bars and restaurants on Melrose Ave. I never felt unsafe in the area but there were the regular LA problems of homelessness and drug use.
If I had realised this was going to be a hostel rather than hotel I may have been happier with the accommodation but just be wary it may not be what you think it is.
- Leonardo (10/5): Thumbs up - I got a private room and I felt pretty safe everyone staying at the place were very nice. I will definitely be staying again next time I visit the city, love the easy access to areas like the Grove, sunset strip, and Canters deli just a 5 min walk away.
- Anthony (8/5): - The wall of hotel are paper thin it was very noisy at night. Other than that the hotel was super clean and the staff was professional.
- Gail (8/5): - When we booked nothing led us believe that this was a hostel!
However, it was clean, friendly and handy to public transport. There was an event on most nights which was great. We could get to most of the city and tourist attractions from almost the front door.
It wasn’t what we had expected but once over our initial shock, it was enjoyable and great value for money.
- Robert (2/5): For beer pong bunk bed grunge kids only. - Disgusting room. Clumps of hair on shower wall, awful bed. Right on Fairfax with windows that did not block the traffic sounds not the hanging around smokers. Clustered electric chords for lights and fan, fire hazard, noisy useless fan and no other option besides opening aforementioned window and basically sleeping right next to a sidewalk in a pretty drug infested neighborhood. I canceled my second night and left.
- Devon (2/5): Well that was a mistake - I gotta say, if you need a bed and you won't mind bugs crawling over you, or a lack of air conditioning, or the fact that you're clearly sleeping in a converted hospital or asylum, then you're going to love the place. Me, not so much, I left shortly after checking in and found another hotel.
- Samuel (10/5): - Name is appropriate. Very bohemian in a great way. Not a bunch of homeless or vagrants. Some fun things there,
- Corinne (10/5): - Was a cute cozy place, Thanks!
- Benjamin (10/5): - Cool hostel/hotel.
Community oriented.
Fun environment
- Benjamin (10/5): - Great vibe!
No pun intended
- Marcus (2/5): - I usually don't write reviews, but this has to be said:
This property honestly does not qualify as a hotel. It is a budget hostel.
The interior of the hostel looks like it was at a time a mental asylum or hospital that has been converted into a hostel.
The room we were given had a large stain on the dark bedsheet that looked like sweat/ oil/ grease from a large person who had laid there a long time.
NONE OF THE ROOMS HAVE AIR CONDITIONING. They claim that there is central air, but there was no air currents coming from the vents.
The room was very hot and unbearable.
There was an odd smell in the hallway near the room, it smelt like trash or meat rotting.
There was a large human turd in the street that I had to walk past as the garage does not have direct access into the hotel.
BUT, there is a nice pool table and table tennis setup in the lobby.
In a nutshell: It's just not for anyone expecting a "hotel." It is a hostel for backpackers or younger travelers who are willing to make compromises to save some money.
- Jessica (4/5): - Did not stay. Checked in, tried to immediately check out, because no ac, just a fan plugged into an extension cord...bad lighting...tiny tv. When I tried to checkout, couldn't find ANYONE....Front desk empty...tried calling, no answer. Then couldn't get back intl my room to leave, because door was broken! Spent more time trying to leave, then im actual room. They also didn't want to refund me....but Expedia is! Thank you Expedia. Vibe Hotel is more like a Hostel....and called Banana Bungalow when you arrive. Confusing!
- Flavio (10/5): - Great
- Ivan (4/5): Not staying here again. - Receptionist was rude. Room was not as promised.
- Hiram (10/5): - Amazing.
- Jordan (4/5): - Hilariously Insecure: A Comedy of Issues
Positives - Niles and the guy at the front desk with long hair were great. Super nice and do everything they can to make sure you have a good time.
Negatives - When I came to check in the door was locked and it required a code to get in, which typically is a great idea, if the code wasn't clearly visible, bold, and in huge font on a sign 2 feet away through the window. I was able to walk right in.
My first night when I got back to the room, there was a girl laying in my bed watching TV. Sounds like she checked out the day before, but her key was never deactivated. Needless to say, I had to pack my stuff and move rooms.
I obviously wanted to use the safety deposit box in this new room, but it didn't work. They were unable to get it fixed during my stay so I had to take my valuables with me every day.
The next morning I woke up and there was no running water, so I had nothing to drink and couldn't shower.
Checking out I asked to store my bags in their "secure storage" which is a room with a keypad for entry. If only it worked... but no, the door was opening with no code.
All this happened over just 48 hours, Management's response? No action and no refund. The employees were asking me if Management spoke to me about all the issues... nope. Never tried.
Code access that isn't publicly visible, deactivating cards after someone checks out, and a secure bag storage is what you learn during the first day of hospitality management 101.
- Cynthia (8/5): - The owners and staff were very nice
- Serra (10/5): - This is a really good place for people on a budget and for young people. The staff is very nice with different events happening every evening in the outdoor area
- Mollie (8/5): Nice affordable private hostel room - This has an international hostel "vibe" for sure, not a US hotel vibe. It's bare bones, no carpet, but for a great price for the area, I'm glad I did it. I didn't plan to spend too much time in the room, so it was fine. Good shower pressure, and glad to have a clean mini fridge and microwave. Staff were very friendly and attentive and even accommodated a late check in after 10pm, because I called in advance. Would recommend to a down to earth friend who just needs a basic, clean and safe place to crash in a walkable part of West LA.
- Vanessa (8/5): Ok stay in Los Angeles - Overall my stay was fine. It is nothing flash but it is safe and cleanish. There was an issue with my room were the shower was completely blocked. Maintenance was suppose to look and fix it while i was out for the day, that didn't happen. However i was given a different room as soon as i got back. Which turned out to be better has it had its own balcony.
Breakfast was simply but good that there was something to start your morning. I would avoid using the washing machines as housekeeping use them and put bleach in the machine and the machine has ruined some of my clothes.
Overall an ok stay but just not fof me.
- dylan (8/5): - Great stay. Will be back.
