- Jegor (6/5): Overall fine, but some broken of hotel equipment worsen experience - Everything was clean, personnel was nice and helpful, modern facilities and rooms. View on Ayasofya is also a great bonus (not for all apartments, but was visible from mine) Although overall nice stay and modern facilities, some things were broken (e.g. glass panel on the floor in the lobby, where you see ancient ruins underneath - was not sure if it will not break anytime soon under the person standing/sitting on it in chair during breakfast), glass pots for coffee were all cracked, sink in apartment was modern but wobbly as glue degraded). Breakfasts are almost always the same, although there is something to choose from. Sometimes they add some variety but do not reflect it in the description - e.g. replaces spinach pies with cheese ones while tablet still says “Spinach pie”, which was unfortunate for me as for lactose intolerant person.

Attentive, friendly, and honest staff. A very good breakfast buffet was included with the only issue being exceptionally weak coffee (that was always running out), ironic for a country renowned for its strong brew. This was my second Booking.com week long family reservation where the room was not as promised. I was told by the hotel staff that the error was due to Booking.com misrepresenting the room and mine wasn’t their first complaint. I requested the room that I paid for and was advised it didn’t exist. Numerous attempts to chat with Booking.com promised they were looking into this yet there was no outcome. Someone would respond “we’ll get back to you” and then end the chat due to inactivity. I won’t be booking with Booking again.

- due-auditor (10/5): 🌟 Review for Shining Star Hotel, Istanbul 🌟 - I stayed here just when the snow decided to be merciful enough to fall — not much, but enough to make me feel blessed (and slightly frozen). ❄️ The hotel literally sits on top of history — there’s an ancient royal bath site right beneath it. Imagine waking up and realising you’re basically sleeping above where princesses used to chill centuries ago. Royal vibes unlocked 👑. Service? 10/10. There’s even an Indonesian staff member, so you instantly feel at home — like finding sambal in a foreign land. 🇮🇩 The Turkish tea here deserves its own fan club; if you skip it at breakfast, that’s basically a sin. 🍵 ✨ Tips for fellow travellers: If you are indonesian and addict to spicy food, bring your own Boncabe. Turkish chilli might not enough to make you cry Walking times from the hotel: Hagia Sophia: around 5 minutes on foot. Blue Mosque (Sultanahmet Camii): about 5 minutes too. Topkapı Palace: roughly 8 minutes walking. Grand Bazaar: also about 8 minutes on foot. If you visit in January or February, prepare to be humbled by the cold. Stock up on drinking water in your room, because going out for it at midnight is a spiritual test. 🧊 In short, Shining Star really lives up to its name — not because it’s perfect, but because it shines even in Istanbul’s freezing weather.

- Sohra (2/5): Nice location, don’t book family studio if you need separate bedrooms - Location was amazing. Staff was very helpful with booking tours and taxis. I was travelling with my mother who is almost 80 years old. We booked the family studio advertised as a 2-bedroom. What we didn’t know from the pictures and the description: You need to go through the small bedroom in order to access the bathroom. That means the person in the small bedroom gets disturbed every time someone from the big bedroom uses the bathroom at night. Also, small bedroom does not have a window. On one side is the wall and door leading outside. On the other side is a glass door leading to the space which is combined living-and-bedroom. The glass door only has a handle towards the small bedroom, like a balcony door, and the door only stays closed if you put the handle down. That means if you close the door from the side of the small bedroom, those in the big bedroom cannot leave their room and cannot reach the bathroom or the exit in case of fire. If I had known the layout of the place I never would have booked it. To top it all off, the key card holder next to the entrance in the small bedroom gets bedroom was giving a flashing blue light, which is incredibly disturbing if you try to sleep in there. Its not easy to show on a photo. It was like trying to sleep in a nightclub. When staff was asked to fix it we were told the flashing blue light was be design.
- A (6/5): Avoid the car service they will push on you - The location is especially convenient if you want to see the Sultanahmet neighborhood highlights like Hagia Sophia, the Archeological Museum etc. The breakfast was good, and the rooms clean. Avoid their car service--really unpleasant start to my stay. I arrived at IST late at night, and found the contact person for the car, was told to go wait. Checked with him 10 minutes later and told to wait another 10 minutes, and it seemed like that was just putting me off. Where you have to wait for your so-called reserved car is where there is a long line of available taxis, so I was exhausted and told him I was taking a taxi and did. The taxi incidentally was about 2/3 the rate of the Shining Star "reserved car" and they took credit cards (the SS reserved car has to be paid in cash, adding to the badness of the whole setup). Got to the hotel, and the late night front desk person was furious with me for not waiting indefinitely at the airport, and demanded the payment for the reserved car, which I refused. It was an ugly start to my stay, but I will say that otherwise the hotel room was clean and comfortable and the breakfast was fine.

- marinah826 (10/5): Great hotel in perfect location! - We stayed in this hotel for three nights in September. There was three of us and we had two bedroom connecting room on 4th floor. The room was very spacious, very clean and comfortable. The air-conditioning worked well and was quiet. The view from the room was fantastic - Hagia Sophia just hundred meters away and Galata Tower in the distance. The location of this hotel could not be better. It is in walking distance from all main attractions but it is on a very quiet street so no noise comes to the room. The staff is very friendly and helpful. I would say that the only disappointing thing was breakfast because the variety of food was very limited and it was repeated exactly the same every morning, so after three days we were glad that we were leaving. Overall it was a fantastic stay and I would highly recommend this hotel to anybody.

- Silvia (10/5): Geburtstags Städte Trip - Sehr freundliche und hilfsbereite Mitarbeiter, insbesondere die Rezeption, von einem sehr herzlichen Empfang bis zum Ende zur Taxi Bestellung hat alles wunderbar funktioniert. Das Hotel liegt in einer ruhigen Seitenstraße, und Sehenswürdigkeiten, wie die Moscheen und Topkapi Palast sind innerhalb weniger Minuten zu Fuß erreichbar , sowie auch öffentliche Verkehrsmittel. Minimale Kleinigkeiten: eine weitere Ablage im Badezimmer wäre schön und es kann, je nach Belegung der Zimmer, innerhalb des Hotels hellhörig sein ( Wasserrauschen/ Föngeräusche). Dagegen ist nach Außen gut isoliert.

Das Hotel hat eine super Lage: etwa 5 Geheminuten von Hagia Sophia, Blaue Moschee, Basilika Zisterne entfernt, viele Läden, wo man gut und lecker essen kann sind auch nah. Das Hotel an sich ist super! Klein, aber sehr gemütlich, sauber, mit seeehr netten Personal. Absolut empfehlenswert.

- Zeljka (10/5): Odličan mali hotel na središnjoj poziciji, opet bi se vratili. - Boravak nam je bio super. Mali, lijepi hotel na super lokaciji, nekoliko minuta pješice od Aja Sofie. Super čist, osoblje uslužno i jako ljubazno. Ekipa na recepciji dala super savjete u vezi Istanbula. Doručak dovoljan. Rezervirali su nam i prijevoz do zračne luke, tako da bi stvarno preporučili boravak u ovom hotelu pri posjetu Istanbulu i opet bi se rado vratili. Sve je super.

- Melanie (10/5): Great place to stay! - Great stay at Shining Star Hotel. Very well located, with a short walk to restaurants and the most popular sights. The staff were all very friendly and helpful. The breakfast was good. The glass floors with a view of the underground ruins are really a treat and the bar area is beautifully finished and very atmospheric - although the wine and beer choice could be better.

Un elogio particolare merita Yusuf, il giovane addetto alla reception, che con grande gentilezza e professionalità ha risolto ogni piccolo inconveniente, dimostrando grande disponibilità per ogni nostra esigenza. Un ottimo esempio di simpatia ed accoglienza!
