Guest Reviews
- Rob (4/5): - They had no knowledge of our booking when we arrived. To be fair, they sorted us out quite quickly but it would actually have been a blessing if they didn't have a room and we were forced to book elsewhere. The room is extremely dated and had a terrible smell. The windows are single-glazed so all sound from the street feels like it's in your room. Booker beware - this property has shared bathrooms. It is stated on the room details but not as clearly as it should be. I've no idea how old the mattress is but you can feel every spring. Would not recommend as a place for a good night's sleep.
- Genevieve (8/5): Lovey little pub! - Really cute pub rooms decorated lovely! Didn’t realise it was shared toilets and showrooms when we booked but both toilets were clean and didn’t see the other guests! And nice outside courtyard to sit in
- Selene (10/5): Mrs - Let his book in early to go to a concert very friendly man helped us x lovely stay rooms very comfortable
- Sian (8/5): Great stay! - Stayed for x2 nights for a gig in London Stadium. Comfortable stay apart for very hot weather. A fan was provided in room. Staff were amazing, couldn’t do enough! Food also very nice!
- Sonja and John (8/5): - Unique Boho decor and friendly people but very noisy room by main street with noisy pelican crossing going off randomly from the early hours and very noisy fridge in the room. Very clean and comfortable bed.
- Eric (6/5): - Room was uniquely decorated and service was friendly. Shared bathrooms were clean, the carpets were more doubtful. Mattress could use an upgrade. WiFi did not work during the length of our stay. Entrance a bit depressing.
- Emma (10/5): - Beautiful
- Rachel (10/5): - A lovely quirky place to stay above a nice pub. Shared facilities but clean and of good quality. Lovely bedroom, incredibly comfy bed. Although breakfast wasn't part of it, the host left cereal, croissants and milk and yoghurt in the fridge. There was facilities to make coffee and tea too. Would happily stay again.
- PAUL (8/5): Pre-marathon stay - Stayed here as I was participating in the 2025 marathon. The room was lovely and the service received was very good. The road was a bit busy outside all through the night but that cannot be helped. Would definitely stay again.
- Annette (8/5): - Very attractive and clean, comfortable room
- Joseph (10/5): Comfortable, cute and convenient - We had a wonderful and great day. To tell you the truth, we had no clue what we were walking into. We didn’t realize that there were share bathrooms. But actually it wasn’t that bad at all. The place is very quiet and the staff are extremely friendly. The location sits above a pub in the community of Bow. The closest Underground is a 6 minute walk to Devon’s Road Station in the DLR. you can get to London attractions within 25 minutes. The room was clean, the place has two bathrooms… one with and tub; and one private shower room; so three separate w/c rooms altogether. All very clean. We felt very safe and the staff made us feel appreciated. The room was spacious and comfortable. This was our first shared bathroom experience . We only saw one other person the entire time. I would highly recommend.
- Terence (4/5): ABBA - We went to see ABBA so hotel was good location, unfortunately the location its self was awful. Room need a good clean, but food was very good.
- Maya (8/5): - I liked that it was very cozy and comfortable.
Short distance to bus and DLR station :)
The owner is great
- Verified traveler (4/5): I was mostly there for location, cool place, Brrrr - I couldn't get hot water to run out of those taps no mater how long I left it on, kept running cold. Cant clean much with ice cold water, I didn't try the bathtub though. but I sure wanted to. Also thermostat in my room didn't work? got very cold at night. I wanted to like this place but it wasn't very warm. You could hear a full blow convo on the street. like the windows were wide open, Im not a light sleeper tg, but if you are, bring plugs.
- Verified traveler (10/5): - Gorgeous decor and feel to the rooms and great food and cocktails. We loved our stay.
- Duncan (8/5): - Lovely pub, good beer and comfortable room.
- Martyna (6/5): - Staff were nice but there was confusion about payment and breakfast. Also the room shared bathroom/toilet with the other rooms but nothing like this was noted on the listing. The room had no heating on.
- Verified traveler (6/5): Good night but some nagging complaints - The shower and bathroom is not in the actual room and this was not communicated in the listing at all. I feel like this is a significant issue - I wouldn't have paid the price I paid, if I knew I was sharing a bathroom and shower and so I feel like they hide this information on their listing to try and drive more custom. I don't want to pay over 100 pounds a night for a room that I don't even have a bathroom in. I really felt cheated and annoyed by this and this was a shame because I liked the place and just wish I didn't have this feeling.
I also think the check in time is totally outrageous - 4:30pm! This is totally unacceptable - again for the price point. I have stayed in loads of hotels around London and there has never been a 4:30pm check in time.
The room was good/comfortable and it had a comfortable bed. The hosts are really nice people and the bar is a good place to drink in. The room was clean and it is in a good location for the DLR. They provide some breakfast options in the room, which was good/helpful.
- Charlotte (10/5): - Friendly staff, lovely room. I had a very peaceful stay
- Mark (6/5): - You need to know what this is, and isn’t. Although a simple breakfast is put on a tray outside your room, it would be a stretch to call it a B&B - the room was spacious and nicely decorated and furnished. The rooms are accessed from a side gate and yard into the back of the pub building but effectively they are separate from the pub. The rooms share three facilities - a shower room, a bathroom with sink and toilet and a toilet with a sink. All nicely presented and clean. The Angel of Bow pub is funky and pleasant - every member of staff we encountered was friendly. But the rooms to all intents and purposes are unstaffed. Our issues were that the mattress was incredibly soft to the extent that it led to uncomfortable nights. And the noise from the main road directly outside the pub was fairly considerable. Ultimately we’re glad we tried this - there is lots to commend but we’ll probably try somewhere else next time we’re in the area.
- Shane (8/5): - Second time we have stayed and we will stay again
- Paul (10/5): - Perfect place to stay for what I needed
- Martin (10/5): - A very beautiful accommodation in a very good community. Staff were very helpful, transport links were good. Breakfast was different but good different. Tea and coffee facilities included a coffee machine with capsules which was a nice touch. The decor was very boutique and made the room look striking and pleasant. Definitely worth every penny I paid and I would recommend this accommodation. Congratulations to the owners, they have something very good.
- Malcolm (8/5): Cody pub stay. - Comfortable room. Didn’t realise it was not ensuite until I arrived but maybe that was me not reading the listing properly! Nice spacious room.
- Sharon (4/5): - Shared washrooms, narrow staircase, poor wifi, no elevator, good pub and food but that is it.
- Scott (8/5): Nice place - Bed was a bit soft. Nice quirky room and decoration. Bit mean with the teabags (only 1 in the room).
Not too obvious when booking that it was a shared bathroom. It is mentioned but I'd expect it to be clearer.
Food in pub was great. Continental breakfast was interesting.
Used as close enough to ABBA Voyage and transfers were easy.
Would happily come back.
- Simon (6/5): Foo Fighters Weekend - Good location for the London Stadium, Great little pub and very quirky. Didn't realise it was a shared bathroom, but not really a problem. One thing I would suggest is new mattresses, ours was very soft!!
- Brad (6/5): - Good up and coming property. Rooms had a lot of space. Needs improvement in coffee area. But has a fridge and a fan, which is always a great inclusion in the room.
- Brenda (8/5): - I loved the old artistic decoration and flowers growing in backyard. The Pub served great food. Staff were exceptionally friendly and nice hospitality.
What i did not realize I was too old for carrying my luggage on narrow steps; going out of room to bathroom or showering. I am done with college dorm lifestyle for my own safety of a possible fall downwards with my big feet on narrow steps. Sorry!
- Abel (8/5): - It is a charming old property in a old immigrants community. The problem is that there no one in the property afte 2 pm.
- Joannah (10/5): - Great location for a gig at the Troxy. Although we were concerned about the shared toilet and shower facilities having read previous feedback it was no problem at all. Staff all really friendly and helpful. Sadly we didn’t have time to have a meal but all the food we saw looked great.
- Annette (8/5): - Very quirky and all right for 1 night. The radiator didn't work in one of the rooms and no one to report it to. A noisy location and no soundproofing.
- Christine (8/5): - It was a very nice place to stay for 125 pounds a night. The only thing I didn’t realize is the bathroom and shower is not in your room. This is not something I’m accustomed to. Michael was a dear who works downstairs in the kitchen. Cheers
- Sophie (10/5): - Lovely bed and breakfast. Room was clean and absolutely loved the decor. Staff were super friendly and host was very welcoming. Easy access to transport. Just a shame we were in and out due to a show as would’ve loved to have had dinner there as have read great reviews on the food.
- Enrico (2/5): - In this place the doors are half broken
- Sandra (8/5): - The closeness to DLR and Underground stations a very short journey into Stratford
- Catherine (6/5): - Lovely and friendly staff
- Angie (4/5): - My family's recent stay at a well-situated pub hotel offered both highlights and disappointments. The location was perfect, especially as I live nearby, making it a convenient choice for their visit. The pub itself is charming, and the anticipation built up from reading positive reviews had us looking forward to an affordable, enjoyable stay.
However, our experience was marred by several hygiene issues. The most concerning was the condition of the bedsheets, which were neither fresh nor clean, evident from the presence of hair and stains. This lapse in cleanliness was particularly distressing as my mother, who fell ill and spent a day in the hotel, encountered these issues firsthand. Furthermore, the cleaning service seemed inadequate; despite the cleaner's visit, there was no noticeable vacuuming, and the toilet's hygiene left much to be desired. A bin overflowing with used period products indicated a lack of attention, especially since we were the only guests over the weekend.
Under-bed discoveries of dust, a forgotten shoe, and wigs hinted at a deeper neglect in cleaning standards. While the room decor was both nice and original, these hygienic oversights dampened our overall impression.
Another downside was the breakfast experience. The fruits were good, but the biscuits didn't sound fresh, and we were expecting more choice like to go downstairs in the pub and eat a proper breakfast, and the lack of chairs in one of the bedrooms meant we had to eat on the bed.
- Verified traveler (2/5): Yuk - no toilet roll and blocked drains - This is a six bedroom property with two shared toilets. There was no toilet roll and the toilet and shower drains were severely clogged. The hygiene implications of this combination are untenable.
- John (4/5): - Listing did not mention property has shared bathroom. Smoke alarm in hallway was beeping all night non stop. Coffee maker didn't work.
- Nicola (10/5): - Absolutely fantastic stay. Lovely room. Bathroom is separate to the room, but not an issue, just be aware of this. Room is over a superb pub that serves food, has live music etc.
- Andrea (10/5): Cozy, affordable and great location! - I chose this place instead of a hotel just because I liked the decor of the rooms in the pictures, I have to say they don't disappoint! The place is wonderful, super unique decor and probably the coziest place I've ever stayed in. The bed was soooo comfortable I actually stayed in one day. Everything is very clean and the staff is very nice. I'd totally stay here again. The location is good, there are two tube stations about 10 mins away. I recommend going to Devon's Cafe for all-day breakfast, that place saved my life! And as a tip, they have a vegetarian English breakfast option 😍 it's like two or three blocks away from the b&b.
- Helen (8/5): - Me and a friend stayed here for the weekend to go to the 02, took us only 20 mins to get back via bus, souls definitely stay here again, rooms were lovely, bed very comfy, continental breakfast left for us each morning. Staff were lovely and helpful.
- Alison (10/5): - Loved the decor. The staff were helpful and friendly. Very good value for money.
- Lorraine (8/5): - Quirky rooms above a nice pub. Was only staying for one night to attend a concert at the O2. Great transport links to that. Check in and out, quick and easy. I was fully aware it was a shared bathroom but there were plenty of facilities for the amount of rooms upstairs. Was very grateful for the night tray that was left outside my door for my breakfast in the morning, have to confess ate some of it when I got home. Plenty of tea and coffee facilities. Will definitely stay again if attending an event at the O2.
- luigi (10/5): - Excellent!
- Chloe (10/5): - Stayed at the angel of bow for a couple of nights while visiting an event in Victoria park. On the first night we arrived late around 11pm checking inn and was still made to feel welcome and shown to our room quickly. Clean and comfortable rooms and shared bathrooms and would definitely return if in the area and would recommend to family and friends!
- Sean (10/5): A hidden gem - What a find!
Friendly welcome, funky rooms great food and drinks
- tracy (8/5): Fantastic welcome and quirky pub..loved our stay. - We absolutely loved this place, the staff and owners so welcoming. The best home made chips and weloved the quirky decor.2 very small minuses wewere 2 but had only 1 mug and 1 towel. The breakfast was fruit and yoghurt and some cake which my husband was looking forward to a fry up lol. However the location for the Abba Arena and the pub itself more than made up for it. Also fantastically friendly locals so warm and helpful.
- Stefania (8/5): - I liked the staff but it was noisy in the evening and it is close to the road.
- Edward (10/5): - We loved this place. Cute and quirky! Our room was spacious and immaculate. The pub was lively and the food was great. The staff provided lovely service. Definitely a hidden gem. We'll be back for sure
- David (6/5): Fabulous staff. Decent room. Convenient location - All the staff at the pub were lovely and I couldn't have asked for a warmer or more helpful reception.
The room was nice and tidy and the shared shower room was clean and had a good shower.
Sadly it rained in the night and I was woken by water dripping through the ceiling.
The location is busy and close to the Devon's Road DLR - only half an hour or so from the West End of London and close to the Olympic Park etc.
The busy-ness does mean that the road is a bit noisy, if you're a light sleeper.
An excellent continental breakfast was put out for me and set me up nicely for the day.
- Petra (2/5): - We booked our stay, here on New Years Eve for 10th June for 4 of us and got a phonecall 4 days before we were meant to come, cancelling because we'd booked 2 rooms! Even though we'd booked 2 rooms 6 months prior, I was told they had no choice as we'd booked the 2rooms. Disgraceful and really let down with hardly any notice.
- David (10/5): Great night and location for Bow - I don't normally leave and feedback. Stayed overnight for work and also to catch up with my Kids. We all ate in, the food was excellent and really enjoyed the "open mic". Loved the touch of breakfast being left at my bedroom door. Whilst the room wasn't en-suite this didn't matter as bathrooms were clean and next to room, would definately go back again. The whole feeling of the place was great
- Laura (10/5): Very comfy and excellent facilities! - What a lovely, comfortable room with excellent facilities! I loved staying here and felt like royalty. The vegan breakfast was delicious and it was a nice quiet room with a very comfortable bed! Everything was very thoughtfully done and the fan was most welcome! Made my train to Stratford easily as is very near Devon’s Road DLR.
- David (10/5): Would definitely stay again. - Absolutely loved this stay! The rooms were decorated beautifully and the staff couldmt do enough for their customers. An added bonus is the tasty craft beers and cider available in the pub which went well with in the beer garden which was a lovely sun trap. Although there was communal bathroom facilities they were clean, and to the same designer spec as the bedrooms which was a nice surprise.
- Liam (4/5): - Where do I start with this one. This is not a hotel it's rooms above a pub, there are no ensuites, no loo roll in the communal toilet, the rooms are dirty, the pub door slams EVERY time it shuts and no reception should you need anything (like loo roll) the "Continental Breakfast" is some cheese, ham and french toast left in the hallway on a plate the night before.
The pub seemed ok with a varied and different selection of beers but that is probably the only positive I have.
I thought it would be nice not to stay at one of the usual brands of hotel, this just highlights why we should have.
Honestly go to the pub but dont stay at the hotel.
- Kayly (10/5): Fabulous - Owners could not have made us feel more welcome, nothing was too much trouble. Went to extra effort to provide a vegan breakfast Fantastic facilities, quirky room and the most comfortable bed Ive ever slept in.
- Ruth (10/5): - Lovely pub and really nice decor the the rooms/bathroom
