Guest Reviews

- Camila (10/5): Great location, great hosts, very cozy and traditional - Location is fantastic, very close to metro/train lines, but it doesn’t feel overly crowded. There’s very good food all around.
The Ryokan is very nice and well taken care of. You really get a traditional Japanese vibe (at least that’s what it felt like to me!) and it’s very cozy.
The owners, Aeiko and Michael, are very attentionate and kind. I liked everything, but people should be aware that you will sleep in futons (a bit harder than a western bed). Also, the walls are made of paper (literally) and the floor is tatami, so there’s a few rules the guests are required to follow to ensure the good maintenance of the place. As long as this is ok for you, I would highly recommend this place!

Un baño y una ducha para 3 pisos

The llocation is convenient
The room are spacious and comfortable
Our stay was lovely here.
Theres only one shower but we didn't have issues with it even when the house was full.
It might get a little noisy sometimes but depends on the other guests.
You need to be VERY careful with the tatami The stairs, Not friendly to luggage haha nothing to do about it

- Sylvia (8/5): Safe place to stay with friendly staff! Would recommend :-) - Very convenient location (near central) and for the price point, a very cosy place to stay. The room and bath is clean. Occasionally, you might meet the other tenant in the hallway; everyone is very friendly! Made new friends. Even though the room is a little small, it has everything needed. Had memorable and fond memories here. Depending on the room location, might need to climb up and down to the second floor for the toilet.
- Ajeti (9/5): - The Futon was way more comfortable then i expected and the Eiko was really nice and helpful.
With the Taizo line direkt in front of the door and the Yamanote Line not far away. Also a short walk to some nice parks and resturants. A 7 elven and famima is also close by. I had cleaner hotel rooms but it was passable.
- JIŘÍ (9/5): - Poloha blízko centra super. Na ulici spoustu obchodů a restaurací. Metro hned za rohem.

- Robin (10/5): -
- Benjamin (8/5): -
- Lucie (10/5): - Feels very homely! It's in a great location close to the Yamanote line as well as Tozai line, which is great for exploring Tokyo There isn't anything that I didn't like :)
- Sonyia (10/5): À la traditionnelle! - Superbe guesthouse, localisation impeccable, près des transports, petits restaurants, shopping. Vivre à la japonaise. L'accueil est très chaleureux. Merci pour les petites attentions. Ma petite adresse à Tokyo! Aucun point négatif!
- Weronika (10/5): -
- Marius (9/5): An incredibly cultured stay in a guest house in the best of sense. - Run by a kind family of cultured and humane owners, here modern life seems indeed rubbish. We would return, gladly, even if only for the fireside chats through the office window.
- Jessica Joel (10/5): - Sehr freundliches Personal. Sehr wohnlich und gemütliche Zimmer.
- Melanie (10/5): - Great location. Kind hosts. Nothing
- Ian (8/5): It was great for me as a solo traveler who doesn’t mind communal bathrooms. - Charming, and clean. Only one shower
- Vincent (10/5): -
- SACY (10/5): -
- Florian (9/5): -
- Jingdong (6/5): -
- siwei (10/5): -
- Tuyet Thuy (8/5): - Giao thông thuận tiện, trạm tàu điện chỉ cách vài chục mét, dễ dàng di chuyển đến địa điểm tham quan, khu vực này yên tĩnh và an toàn
- Catherine (10/5): -
- YungHsu (1/5): - Location is good Owners are easily offended and insulted, be sure to follow their instructions exactly or they will ruin your mood for vacation.

- kevin (10/5): Traditional, cosy and friendly in a good safe location - Felt very traditional and cosy, we walked past it at first and thought, thad would be a nice place to stay, then realised it was the place! So we were delighted, it’s tucked away just off the Main Street close to the station and very convenient location, we were welcomed very nicely and instantly felt a nice grounding being there

- Anuradha (8/5): Excellent on the whole. The hosts were very welcoming and helpful. - The Location was excellent! It was 2mins away from the Tokyo Metro and 6-8mins from the Takadanobaba station.
There were plenty of affordable eatries and shopping options next to the Ryokan. On the whole we were left to ourselves with no interference from the others and had the freedom to come and go freely at any time of the day and night. There was just on shower faciilty that was shared by quite a few guests and that too on the ground floor. So if it was busy then one would have to go up and down steep stairs to know whether it was free or not.
Adding one more shower facility on the first floor would resolve this issue.

- Izumi (10/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): - We liked that it was a simple down to earth place. Michael and Eiko were kind and accommodating! We had the top floor room with its own toilet which felt very spacious for us :)

- Kabir (8/5): - The house rules were very well explained by the host lady. The house is clean. Value for money.
- Michela (10/5): Bellissimo luogo !! I proprietari deliziosi - Tutto meraviglioso
- Erh-Tai (9/5): -
- Dominic (10/5): - Really enjoyable stay in an authentic house in a great area of Tokyo! Everything went smoothly here, and the host was very kind. There are some nice restaurants in the neighborhood, a mall nearby with lots of arcade games, and it's only a couple of minutes walk to the train station. Everything was good.
- hamza (10/5): -
- Lucia (10/5): - It was such a cute and cozy place!! The owner was sweet and will just ask you to take care of the place. It is also in a perfect location
Toll traditionell. Ein wunderbarer Einstieg in den Urlaub!
- eric R (8/5): Authentic - Welcome by Eiko. Lack of laundry.
- RENE (10/5): Awesome stay with a great location. Made it so easy to get around! - Great location, very nice hosts lol definitely look at all the stairs if you have heavy bags!!

- Dody Rachmat (8/5): -
- Kerur (5/5): -
- Dutch (9/5): -
- Ny (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - Nice little place to stay if you want more of a traditional experience. It’s located close to Takadanoba Station, which is 1-2 subway stops away from Shinjuku. There are a variety of restaurants around, with a Starbucks like a 10 second walk away, which one of the owners offered to buy a coffee for me from there.
There’s one shower/bath tub, which is pretty spacious. WiFi was also good.
The owners were relatively nice and will take the time to talk during check-in, and perhaps afterwards if you gel with them. Checking in took about 30-40 minutes for me, as I arrived around the same time as other guests, and there are quite a number of rules that are explained, which is understandable as I believe the owner grew up in the house (based on other reviews), so you have to treat it like you’re staying at a friend or family’s home.
The rules are simple, but some things wouldn’t cross my mind without being told. For example, when I was waiting for the other guests to get checked in, I was standing with my luggage by the staircase, but the owner wanted me to bring my luggage back down to where you leave your shoes and wipe the wheels on the rug before moving forward, as it was raining outside. Another example is that the owner doesn’t want you to leave anything on top of the bed sheets.
I also chatted with the other American owner for about 20 minutes. At the end, I said something like “nice talking with you”, and he just kind of rolled his eyes and walked back to the office without saying anything, which was also the last time I talked with any of them. He did offer me a coffee earlier though, so perhaps this is secretly the Yin and Yang Ryokan. Either way, not a big deal, but if I was 80 years old (god willing I make it to that) and you asked me what I remember most about staying here, that’d probably be it.
- Gabriel (8/5): Authentic Ryokan in excellent location with very hospitable hosts - Lots of character. Felt like a taste of old Tokyo. There was only one shower to share between all rooms. So it was often occupied
- Eabha (10/5): Very good experience - The couple who own this properly are so lovely and let us check into our room early and kept our bags until our flight in our last day. The location is also very close to a few metro lines
- Triana (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aspen (8/5): Great place, kind owners - Really nice homely Location wasn’t perfect but was really good still
- Armainy (10/5): Hands down THE BEST accomodation considering price, location and comfort. Will book again! - It was a very nice experience for me on my whole 10 days staying at Tama Ryokan. It was a ryokan style accomodation as described which was very comfortable. The location couldnt be better, it was literally a a few steps to the nearest station, bus stop or Starbucks. The host also very kind, helpful, accomodating and respectful.
This is the first time I stayed in a shared bathroom accomodation, which have me worries on the cleanliness, but at Tama Ryokan the host keeps it very clean and tidy all the time. I was surprised that we get a daily room cleaning aswell.
Before arrival i was warned about the noise of ppl walk by that sometimes can be heard from the bedroom, but i would rather hear the occasional people walk by the street instead of to stay in other accomodation thats far from the center or stay in a hotel with much more expensive and much smaller room. Plus im travelling with my toddler and shes sleeping fine through the night. But I really appreciate that the host warn me these in advance. I think it shows his integrity and he really wants to make sure that we traveller had a good experience.
I went to Tokyo probably almost 10x already, and overall hands down this is the best accomodation considering price, location and comfort. I would definitely book this place again.
- Rod (10/5): Exceptional - Rustic Japanese charm in a great location
Friendly and welcoming staff All good
- Alexei (10/5): It was a wonderful experience of living. Excellent administrators; clear rules and comfort of life. The common bathroom - That place to feel classic Japan There was nothing I couldn't like
- Lucy (8/5): Very good - The location is convenient for access to shibuya/Shinjuku and there are restaurants nearby.
Authentic Japanese Ryokan
Extremely reasonable price for Tokyo and to stay in Ryokan (which often are more).
Hostess was very kind giving us Japanese snacks to try and offering us books. Be aware this is a very old Ryokan with thin walls, no blackout blinds, on a busy street.
It's rough and ready but room was really clean.
So maybe don't stay here if you want high specs or are fussy: expect what you pay for.... an
experience!!
- Paphungkorn (9/5): I will be back 💖 - - Good location ( 5 second to Metro)
- Warm welcome
- Good price
- Clean - 1 Shower room
- 3 Rest room (1 for men)
- The walls are very thin, you will hear outside noise all the time, but it will not be annoying.
- The owner will explain everything to you but she is very nice.
- no elevator
