Guest Reviews
- Karl Matthew (10/5): -
- Georgina and Andrew (9/5): A great location for your first time in Tokyo - Incredible host so kind and funny Rooms were a little small for our luggage
- SANGGAM (8/5): - Very strategic location & clean.
- Hendrik (10/5): My home in Asakusa -
- Monique (9/5): Great stay in a great location. - Great character and great location. The futons were very comfortable, we slept great. It also had an additional large shared toilet in the hall which was very convenient. Nothing I can think of.
Nada
- Nicholas (9/5): A welcoming place in a terrific location - Quiet little street, very close to the attractions of Asakusa; and a great choice at affordable prices. Very friendly staff too, a nice introduction to Japan for me. The room was small, but that’s normal in Japan. Sleeping on a mattress on the floor initially felt strange to me, but that’s how things are done over here. You even get your own pajamas to wear. I liked this place.

- Emplacement
Gentillesse du personnel Chambre petite
- Oliwia (9/5): Loved it - All okay, amazing people -

- Jeff (10/5): Highly recommended - Great value for money in a traditional ryokan in a tourist heart of Tokyo.
- Kuan Hung (10/5): -

- Daniel (10/5): Friendly Staff in a Great Location - The staff were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay, and the location is superb with fantastic access to all of Tokyo!
- KAI WEI (10/5): -
- Fernanda (10/5): I’d 100% stay there again! - Premium location and the cutest atmosphere for a stay in Japan, with their tatami in the bedroom. Amenities were great and staff helpful. The surroundings can get crowded, especially in Sakura times, but this shows how touristic the area is. This is a minor detail but important to keep in mind.
Only thing I didn’t like was the check in and check out times, but I guess this is standard in Japan.
- Alessia Midori (8/5): - Posizione eccezionale
- Joshua (10/5): -
- Syazwani (7/5): Great location. Very friendly staff. Outdated toilet. Uncomfortable pillow. - Proximity of property to halal restaurants and convenience stores. The very friendly staff. There’s a lift, washing machine, dryer and my room had a view of the Tokyo Skytree. The toilet is cold. I was there late March and I noticed it was noticeably cold when I went from the room to the toilet. The toilet bowl itself doesn’t come with a bidet nor a heated seat.
The tap is outdated. To get the water temperature desired, you’ll have to adjust the left (cold) and the right (hot) taps until the temperature is just right.
I personally found the pillows to be uncomfortable. It wasn’t soft enough and I got a neck pain as the pillow was too thick for me.
- Sophie (10/5): -
- Nathan (10/5): - Very comfortable with a lovely view, the owner was incredibly kind.
- Wing Ki (8/5): -
- Margareth (9/5): Clean room everyday and friendly staff. - The location is amazing and the staff are really friendly. They clean the room everyday from 9am-12nn, perfect time when we’re out and about. So when we come back, we always find the room very clean and with fresh towels provided.
- Yun Tung (10/5): -

- Laura (10/5): Charming traditional ryokan with a great host and location. - The host was so kind and helpful! The room was spacious and the beds were very comfortable. The location was also perfect for Sensoji temple and the main station. Nothing! Nice experience all around.
- Bich (10/5): -
- Hyosun (10/5): -
RIEN
- Stefan Peter (9/5): -
- Fredrik (8/5): Prisvärt - Prisvärt boende i bra läge. Personligt och med trevlig personal.
- The M (10/5): My new go-to ryokan in Tokyo! - Location - perfectly located in Asakusa. Stayed here for 6 nights and I love that it is very near to shops, restaurants, train station and the temple.
Room - perfect size for 1 person with 2 luggages! Room may be a bit tight for 2 persons with luggage each.
Bed - no matter how tiring the day was, I always ended up having a good sleep! Futon on tatami mats plus very good pillows (I need to find where to buy those) is a gem!
Bathroom - no bidet but that is fine. Towels were replaced daily.
Staff - very cheerful. I also appreciate that they cleaned my room every day even if I left the room almost past the scheduled cleaning time. I was always happy to come home to a clean room after a long tiring day. Nothing. This is now my go-to ryokan in Tokyo!
- Sutida (9/5): -
- Fredrik (8/5): Prisvärt och bra läge. - Prisvärt och med bra läge.
- Thuy-Anh (9/5): -
- CHIEH YA (7/5): -
- Jake (8/5): -
- Paula (9/5): Perfect stay! -
- Rafe (10/5): -
- Kathleen (10/5): - The people were very kind and welcoming. Place was very clean, tatami mats were very cozy. Location is prime for Asakusa
- rouzier (10/5): -
- Cédric (9/5): -
- Seth (10/5): Excellent location and comfortable accommodation! - Very close to a lot of things to do!
- Mary (6/5): Disappointed that this property is not really a Ryokan - Its proximity to sites of interest in Asakusa
Friendly staff Room was too small.
Nowhere to sit
No space for even our meagre rucksacks.
Nowhere to plug in kettle.
TV not tuned to channels
Generally uncomfortable for two people.
More suitable for a single traveller perhaps
- Josh (10/5): I had a great time staying and will certainly be back. -
- Marika (8/5): - The ladies who run the Ryokan were very nice and helpul. As a single traveller, my rom was small but had everything I needed - from my own bathroom (incl. a yukata free to use), to a comfortable futon, TV, low table with 2 cushions to sit etc.
The location is unbeatable as it's right on the temple grounds.
- Russell (10/5): Loved walking up to Senso-ji every morning. Easy to find vegetarian food nearby. Close to underground station - Great location and very friendly staff always available. We are old and a chair to sit on would be nice but it is a traditional Japanese room.
- Jodi (9/5): Wonderful 2 night stay in a very convenient location. Friendly staff, and comfortable space. -
- Sophie (8/5): -
- Aissia (10/5): -
- Soon (10/5): - Friendly staff
- Mark (7/5): - Central and handy
Friendly staff No breakfast option
Very noisy at night
Very small room
- Dmitry (10/5): - In the middle of Asacusa, this was our chance to sleep on traditional futon japanese bad, super comfortable! In addition we had a great view on sky tree tower from the window.
- Jiayun (9/5): Helpful and kind staff. Small room with futon. Touristic area. - Very kind and helpful receptionist. On the day when we leave, she even told us which metro entrance to use to have the lift (since we had some big luggage’s)
Traditional Japanese bedding set (futon)
Touristic area (shopping streets, food market, metro, temples in working distance). Small shops and food markets are closed at 9pm on that area, so it’s quiet in the evening. Sometimes there is a smell in the hall (outside the rooms, when you get out of the lift). But no problem in the room self. Maybe aeration issue.
There is a side of the windows that is very close to the neighbours, so we kept our curtains closed all the time for more privacy.
- HSUAN HAO (10/5): -
- Éva (9/5): - Fantastic location, very helpful and kind staff. I really liked the traditional japanese style room. It was well-equipped. I even had a view of Tokyo Skytree from my window.
- Carrillo (10/5): - Excellent location!
Perfect spot!
Family friendly!
They makes you feel
Like in a Family!
Real Japanese! Everything!🙂🙂🙂🙂🙂

- Christian (10/5): -
- Marian (10/5): -
- James (10/5): Great value, location, beds and staff! - I have back problems and often have pain in the morning. That was not the case for the beds here, i woke up pain free! Very comfortable after a long day of walking around. Nothing at all, thank you for being so kind and accommodating :)
- Glen (10/5): A perfect budget accommodation option right in the middle of the tourist district. - Location was perfect - a short walk to the station and right in the middle of the Asakusa tourist district. Heaps of food and shopping options right out your front door. The host was super friendly and accommodating, and the rooms were very comfortable and quite spacious - the futons were very comfy too! One of our rooms even had a stunning view of the tower! Would definitely stay again.
- Guest (10/5): -
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nejma (9/5): Superb - Really quiet considering how close it is from the market. Comfy futon and pillow, deep bath and beautiful tatami.
Lovely staff 😊 Missing a bed lamp
- Jenna (10/5): Exceptional -
- Georgina (9/5): Superb - Staff were so friendly and helpful, amazing location right in the centre of Asakusa but down a quiet side road
- Steven (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and wonderful staff. Place is fun and adequate - not over the top, but worth the location.
- Gabstar1 (9/5): Coming 'home' in Asakusa - I loved the location. So close to the sights of Asakusa which were quite busy during the day but then were peaceful at night. The room 'felt" more spacious than a regular hotel room, I guess because there wasn't much furniture. I also had a great view of the Skytree from my window!
It was easy to get to other parts of Tokyo by train or walk to some other significant areas (eg. Sumida City). Some of these places could be crazy but it was nice to 'come home' to Asakusa and although the ryokan was literally around the corner from Nakamise Shopping Street, once you entered it, it felt so removed.
The owner was lovely, she was always smiling and helpful and let me check in early at 1pm as the room was ready. I was happy to just leave my bags but it was nice to have a rest before going out again. I used the bathtub a few times (after a few busy days of sightseeing) which also had these great armrests built in.
There were many shops and eating options nearby too. The weather was a bit warm the week I was there, so my room was quite warm being on the 4th floor. However there was an aircon I used sometimes.
Also, there was only a main light in the room (and separate light in the bathroom) Perhaps a small lamp could be placed in the room so the main light does not need to be kept on when reading etc.
- Cameron (8/5): Very good -
- Patrick (10/5): A wonderful place in Tokyo where I was just as excited to come back in the evening as I was to head out and explore the - Ryokan Mikawaya is very close to the market and shrine but still completely quiet at night. You have direct access to a huge variety of restaurants. The owners talk to you in Japanese by default but can easily switch to English so it’s a great place to practice Japanese without getting stuck. The free tea bags and coffee get refilled every morning. The bathroom had body soap, shampoo, conditioner, hand soap, a comb and a razor. All you need to bring yourself is showergel and toothpaste. The toilet paper is very thin. That was my only issue. I cant find anything else that needs improvement.
- Ngoc (9/5): Superb - Ryokan Mikawaya in Tokyo is a charming traditional inn that offers guests an authentic Japanese experience. Located in a convenient area, it provides comfortable tatami rooms, warm hospitality, and a glimpse into Japan’s rich cultural heritage. I appreciate its cozy atmosphere, friendly staff, and proximity to major attractions.
- Valerie (10/5): Incredibly welcoming - I had an amazing experience at this location during my previous trip to Tokyo. I loved how central it was, making it easy to explore the city. It's just a quick walk to the subway.. The staff were outstanding; they made me feel comfortable and at ease throughout my stay. When planning my return to Tokyo, this place was my first choice because of the wonderful service and great location. I have no complaints
- Zoe (10/5): Would love to come back & stay again - Location was perfect, staff were very friendly & helpful, room was old but it added to the charm, view of sky tree from window was appreciated Curfew of 11pm might be an issue for some but we fancied being in bed by that time anyway
- Andreia (10/5): Exceptional - Wonderful family business, you feel welcomed, amenities like a robe, toothbrush, hair brush, shower gel, shampoo and conditioner. Hair dryer, kettle. Really felt welcomed, the owner is so great and will definitely stay here on my next trip to Japan.
- Samuel (10/5): Near asakusa most famous attractions and temple - The host was amazing !
- Anna (9/5): Superb -
- William (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were very friendly and incredibly helpful always! The location was fantastic and I can’t recommend it enough
- Rohit (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Josien (9/5): Loved this place - Loved this place. The rooms are very comfortable and it’s quiet. The mattress is good. Location is great. Loved taking coffee in the morning downstairs. Some explanation could be given on where the metro is. There is heating in the room but I only found out after three days and I was cold. There is no breakfast or kitchen. But you can use the microwave.
- Mmmmmmm (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mary (9/5): Simple but excellent place to staff. - Such wonderful staff. They made me feel very welcome .
- Yurim (9/5): Superb - Staff, super friendly. Room, small but very clean. Amazing location.
- Byarndyr (7/5): Good - Comfortable, older ryokan tucked just off the Sensoji market street, and surprisingly quiet for the area. Somehow very peaceful. The staff were all friendly and everything was very clean. I received a very warm welcome the night I arrived! While the view could not have been called "scenic," I really enjoyed this snapshot view of Tokyo from an upper floor just higher than many of the surrounding buildings. The area is a little more touristy than I like, but I still appreciated all the restaurant options nearby! I would have preferred *optional* daily cleaning (but in fairness, I didn't try to refuse).
