Guest Reviews
- Walter (6/5): - Friendly personell. I missed having curtains. There was only rather cold water in the shower. The room was hot on this summer day.

- Susanne (1/5): N/A - Nothing
I did not stay.
They said they would return my money. It was filthy
- Jamie (10/5): Had a nice stay - Didn't have breakfast Nothing

- Salvatore (2/5): - The pics are not real. It is completely different in the real life.
- David (5/5): Value for money, room quiet bed comfy - No breakfast location was fine Room was cold chair leg wonky
- Kate Studley (6/5): Good location. Budget friendly accommodation. - Great location and easy transport links via DLR. Decor needs updating throughout and having some milk and a second cup in the room would have been great.
- Killian (7/5): -
- Gordon (9/5): Great little place to stay, good food and beer. - Friendly local pub with good food and bed for night at very good price
- Axel (8/5): -
- Andrew (1/5): Terrible, dirty and unsafe room - Nothing - worst accommodation I've ever paid to stay in, coupled with paper thin walls. Condition of room shockingly bad - exposed electrical wires from broken wall sockets, cracked and broken sink, broken mirror over sink, filthy carpets that were very stained, mouse rat trap on floor in corner of room. As a property landlord myself this room would fail basic safety regulations and it is frankly laughable that it is being rented out - a disgrace and a con. Zero noise insulation to room next door who rolled in at 12.30am and were noisy with TV on until 2.30am.
- Caitlin (8/5): - Location and friendly staff, easy access without having to go through the pub. Bedroom needed a little TLC but was fine for one night stay
- Heinz (5/5): A great adventure for those wanting adventure or a no frills place to lay their head. - T’was a dark and stormy night whenst I boarded The Ship. It was immediately known to I, that this was a vessel that had sailed the briny seas for many a generation. As I walked into the mess, the music stopped and every single scurvy barnacle in the room eyed the fresh meat that had just landed - like a sea gull eyes a child’s sandwich.
Ye see, I am a landlubber, and a landlubber I is. Mark me words, the sailors on this ship knew it.
So I asked the captain: “Scuse me captain man, where shall I rest me head for the night?”
I was surely expecting a bollockin’ fer interrupting the captain, but she was right friendly and showed me where me bunk was.
The bed was firm, the curtains just about kept the light and sea spirits out and the wifi was good. I would survive the night. The feather pillow was a curse among curses, especially fer a landlubber as I, who is allergic to ‘em.
I shall rise now and start me daily toil, as me time on The Ship comes to an end.
It be an adventure, but what does not kill yer makes yer tougher than a fisherman’s boot. Cursed feather pillow.
Housing fer critters in the corner.
No teaspoon fer me coffee - did have a knife mind, in case life was too much to handle.
Floorin’ - could do with, well, replacing as no scurvy sea dog would be capable of cleaning it, it would end the poor soul.
Electrics - didn’t touch as the evil sea spirit would jump out of it and bite me arm
Dustbin - the bag inside must have been stolen by a rat

- Matthew (10/5): - Great location, amazing staff.
- Matteo (7/5): - Cosy room above the Ship pub.
Great bed, quiet area. Shared bathroom, but it is what it is ..

- C Whyte (9/5): Xmas London treat - Really comfortable bed, able to login to my own streaming service. Really excellent bus service seconds from the door taking me to Canary wharf tube. N/A

- Jack (9/5): Pub crawl location - It's perfect as a starting point of a good pub crawl. Shared bathroom
- Hannah (8/5): - Good location close to the DLR at mudchute. Friendly staff, easy check in, comfy bed, clean shared bathroom and great value for money As a lot of other reviews have said, new carpets and a lick of paint would go a long way as it’s a nice traditional pub but the rooms and corridors look a bit tired
- Georgia (4/5): -
- Josh (10/5): - Great pub with friendly punters. The pizza is amazing. Close to the DLR so you can easily connect with public transport. Met all my expectations and Dan was great behind the bar. Thanks for a great stay.
- Chris (10/5): -
- Angela (7/5): Sad to see thisnplace go down hill - Good price, comfortable bed. Very late check-in (4pm) no one there to open up. You can't check in to the rooms until the pub opens. Staff watched as we (myself, my husband, and other guests) waited in the pouring rain and didn't open up. Didn't open the door until 4.10 and then only because a regular to the pub tried to get in. Made us wait while he served customers. I have stayed at the ship twice before, and it was a lovely stay, absolutely no complaints. This time, there was milk, coffee, tea bags, but no cups, which we had to ask for. No bin in the room, out of date milk, which we discovered when we made a cup of tea. The place is desperately in need of a few repairs. Overall, it was a very disappointing stay. It was such a shame, considering it was once very pleasant.
- Brian (1/5): -
- Aleksandra (5/5): - Bed was comfy and the bedding was clean. The pub staff seemed to view us more like an inconvinience. Everything in the room and the wole building looked old and tired. Carpets very dirty.
- Chirvase (3/5): -
- John (8/5): Great value and big bedroom - Spacious bedroom with large bed with top quality sheet and doona (duvet) cover. Staff in pub were brilliant and we had good pizzas there and the drinks reasonable price! Great atmosphere! We walked under the nearby tunnel under the Thames to Greenich and walked to Canary Wharf. This place is so cheap for London and so saved a lot of money. We would definitely come back! No hot water in shower just warm
- Lewis (6/5): Basic, good value accomodation ... - Good location for central London & I was visiting family on the same road ... No hot water by the time I went to shower, no towel & when I opened a draw to try to find one, I was horrified to see a pair of soiled underwear and crusty socks ... eww 🤢
- Nataliia (5/5): - We stayed there only for one night. Location is close to public transport. The staff was friendly. The bed was comfortable. Unfortunately, the photos of the room do not correspond to the real room. The room wasn't clean: the carpet was all in stains, and there was some trash on it. The bed sheet looked washed but had a lot of small dark stains on it. In the room was kettle, tea, coffee, and sugar, but there weren't any cups. The windows didn't close tightly, so the room was a bit chilly, and you could hear all the street noise.
- John (9/5): Great stay, will use again. - Friendly welcome from Lorna and Paddy, great pizza, comfortable bed. A lot of noise from other guests throughout the night, but not the fault of the Ship Inn.

- Michael (8/5): -
- David (9/5): Functional room over a good pub. -
- Alastair (9/5): Good value option that’s a 10 minute bus ride to Canary Wharf - Good value for money, friendly staff, a comfy bed and the room was well located for Canary Wharf. The sheets and towels were all very clean and fresh. I was happy to see an iron and ironing board in the room. There was no air con and the carpet was stained. The room is a little dated and the curtains didn’t draw well. There was also no bin bag in the bin.
- Alan (8/5): Great place to stay on a budget - The price, location, friendly staff. Room/facilities needed improvement but good value and just needed a place to crash so not bothered by it
- Artur (10/5): Very warm place - Readiness for help
- Sarah (10/5): A wonderful stay - The staff were friendly and helpful. Check in and check out was so easy. The room has great facilities and is a good size too.
- Mark (7/5): just a one night stay near to where event i was going too - Having stayed here before been a few years ago things have changed a little but ok. Its very close to docklands rail and they are bus stops outside .The area is mostly quiet place clean tidy and room too easy access in and out of the place tv wasnt working no signal need setting up .Need to look at socket by the bed side lamp and few things have changed i think it used to open earlier but not now and they used to be a breakfast basket but dont think they do that anymore .
- Diego (1/5): Avoid if you fly or travel in the afternoon - The free sauna, as there is no ventilation or fan in the summer. The animated nights full of insomnia, as it is loud as an Iron Maiden concert downstairs. The solitude, as there is no one to greet you til four and they close at 10. The medieval experience of sleeping in a dirty startled room full of bugs and fragrances from a distant past… My flight was delayed so I arrived after 10. I was left outside with nobody picking up the phone in the middle of the rain. Then, you have to spend the whole day waiting until 4 pm, as they are closed till that time. Refund? Yes… next week… wait another… maybe in a parallel universe. They want the benefit of a hostel but zero responsibility. Take also into account they they are not a hostel or anything like it, but a mere English pub with some rooms attached upstairs, meaning they are not professionals related to the accommodation sector and they don’t intend to be. It’s a booze bar with some dirty rooms upstate and zero compassion for the visitors in an increasingly dangerous city. Something awful can happen to you if you risk to arrive later than ten. Would you ?
- Nigel (8/5): Very good - Good old fashioned pub room. Loved it. No waste bin in room .
- Rana (1/5): Horrible - Nothing Property was so smelly and disgusting even no air conditioner there and shower was not working I cancelled my stay after saw all this shit
- Joshua (7/5): Good - Very friendly staff, spacious room and very comfy bed There was rubbish on the floor and the desk when we entered the room. There was no bin in the room.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Manuel (5/5): Passable -
- Iiris-marie (7/5): Good -
- Robert (9/5): Rooms above a pub. A great budget choice! - The Ship is a decent locals' pub. Friendly staff and a good choice of beers, though no real ales, which I missed. The room I got was a good size on the top floor. It had a wash basin, but toilet and shower were shared. If I'm being picky I suppose it was a bit scruffy in places (the carpet in particular) but for the price it was more than acceptable. The mattress was a bit cheap too, but I slept great. It was a hot night so I left the windows open and was surprised how quiet it was, considering it's on a relatively busy road. All in all a great value choice, and I hope to be back!
- Gregory (4/5): Great location but substandard accommodation. - I love the location: so close to Greenwich Village via the pedestrian tunnel under the Thames, and also close to walking paths along the river. The checkin and out was easy and the staff warm and welcoming. The bed was clean and comfortable. I stayed at The Ship 6 years earlier and was impressed enough to return. Unfortunately the rooms seem to have fallen into decline. The carpets are filthy, and the hand basin cracked. There was a hole in the wall adjoining a power point, and the door handle to my room was broken so that I couldn’t shut it from the inside for fear of being locked in. The staff member explained it had happened recently and was to be fixed soon. However, for the price, the room was disappointing.
- Chris (5/5): Passable - Staff was friendly. The Isle of Dogs is an interesting location. The pub was lovely and the food was delicious. No breakfast included. The room was bright and comfortable The room was up 2.5 flights of narrow stairs. The carpet needs a good cleaning. No soap or shampoo in shower. The street noises and noises from other guests excessively loud. I believe the soap in my room was actually lotion.
- Martin (8/5): Very good - The location is excellent, the check-in was fast and easy.
- Hannah (5/5): Great Staff but passable facilities - Staff were very accommodating and friendly. Pillows and duvet very nice, comfortable and clean Dark and dingy. Carpets stained and whole place felt a little unkept. Bed/mattress was hard and springs poked into you.
- Irene (3/5): Poor - The shared bathroom was clean and in a good state. The pillow was so gross I had to use one of my shirts as a pillow case. The bin was not usable (it had no bag and the bottom of it was not solid) and the lamp was full of dust. I was woken up at 9.30 by the cleaning person blasting music. Had to uber back to the place because once it's too late to catch a boat, the public transport options are pretty much non-existent. Unfortunately quite a bad experience in general.
- Dw (7/5): Lovely clean room , well located , great value. - Large room. Clean room, and bed linen. Plenty of clean towels. Room included own fridge, kettle, wash basin. Pub made pizzas on site. Easy come/go access. Considering the location and the price there is no complaints. Curtains were not good enough to close out the light from the room.
Mattress could have been comfier/firmer ( I like a medium firm mattress ).
- Emma (10/5): Thank you ❤️ - Comfy bed in the Kingdom room. Good location close to canary wharf, amazing staff and great athmosphere down in the pub. I had a great time staying at The Ship 🔥
- Henry (6/5): A decent competitively priced pub hotel with great staff but some facility drawbacks - Friendly staff and a nice pub below with good access to transport and easy to find. Access to the rooms and bathroom facilities (although shared) were good. We found it quite quiet also considering it’s a pub and on a busy road. The prices are very competitive so it must be judged in those terms. However, there were some lacking points. The carpets are quite dirty and also there were two pest control boxes in the room that made us concerned and could be a no go for many. The seals on the windows were also perished and this made our stay quite cold even on a mild spring night as plenty of cold and noise are allowed into the room.
- Paul (8/5): Very good - Nice pub, decent location for Greenwich or Limehouse.
Comfortable room. Shared bathroom, but only by 3 rooms.
- Elizabeth (7/5): Good - Staff were helpful and friendly. Plug sockets were coming out of the wall so I was reluctant to leave my phone to charge.
- Rachel (7/5): Good -
- Isabelle (10/5): Good stay in a nice pub - Nice room, clean, good neighbourhood where we feel save. The room is located above a very nice independent pub. Nice staff. Nothing, we like it here. Been here before and will definitely come back again.
- Paul (6/5): Very friendly staff, just not a clean place at all. - Bed is comfy, and it's decent enough place to sleep if you're just looking for a room for one night to get your head down. Cleanliness is little to non existing, if they actually have a cleaner then they should probably sack them.
Also there were no instructions as to how to check-out, so just had to leave the room door unlocked with the keys on the desk in the room.
- Maxwell (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bharat (6/5): Pleasant -
- Jason (8/5): Very good -
- Victoria (7/5): Lovely pub - Handy locale Looked nothing like the photo but was a convenient place to stay.
- Ben (10/5): Very convenient place to stay. Great pub to relax in and would recommend to friends. Looking at coming back in a couple - Very close to family residence and very warm welcome from staff when checking in. N/A, very happy with our stay
- Andy (8/5): A really hoid stay an was value for money based on it's location - The location for the 02 arena was fantastic a.quick bus ride or even a taxi got you to your location in good time. The bed was of good size and plenty of space in the room to move about. Mattress on the bed was slightly hard, the room could do with a ittle bit of an upgrade it looked a bit aged a quick lick of paint and a new carpet would do the trick.
- Adam (6/5): Fine for an evening but rather overpriced for the quality of the accommodation. - Central location for the Docklands. No cup provided for coffee in the morning so unable to have a hot drink. The wardrobe was locked so unable to hang clothes up, the bin had no top and the carpet was stained.
- Alice (8/5): Very good -
- Dimitra (5/5): Passable - The place is clean and quiet. The heating wasn't on initially, the windows weren't double glazing which meant that the passing traffic was loud. The door lock was flimsy and made me feel insecure.
- Richard (8/5): Very good - room carpet
- Oskar (7/5): Good value for money - Cozy room with a big comfy bed, nice staff, good WiFi and good value for money No liquid soap was provided for hand/body washing, the dispenser was filled with hand lotion instead
- Alexandra (7/5): Despite these drawbacks, these are just suggestions for improvement, and I would come back! - Everything was quite lovely. The staff was very caring, always ready to help with any issue and find a solution. The bed was the coziest I can remember! The location was simply excellent, very close to the main spots for walks. It's just a pity I didn't get a chance to try the pizza from the pub. To be honest, I have a couple of concerns regarding cleanliness and temperature. There were a lot of stains on the carpet, and it felt like it was rarely cleaned. It slightly reduced the sense of comfort because I preferred to stay in my shoes while moving around. I didn’t even want to put on slippers. Also, the toaster seemed either dusty or full of crumbs from previous guests, so it couldn’t be used – it immediately started smoking. My neighbors even had the fire alarm go off because of it. And in the bathroom, the window doesn’t close completely, so it gets very cold in the morning. Because of that, I had to turn the water on hotter than necessary, which caused a lot of humidity to build up in the room.
- Angela (2/5): Not for us - Comfortable bed
Water was hot No cups or spoons to make a cuppa… teabags and milk provided though. Carpet was filthy. No heating despite a radiator in the freezing cold room. Sink was slow draining.
Really needs a rethink.
- Ian (8/5): Very good - Chose this pub for its location to my daughters place while we were visiting. A 10 minute walk from the LDR or a 10 minute bus ride from Canary Wharf. The staff were really friendly on our arrival. We stayed in the bar for the evening, probably too long :) tried the pizzas which were very good and were treated well. The room was a fair size, the bed was comfortable and we never had to wait for the shared bathroom in the morning.
- Jack (7/5): Good -
- Fiona (8/5): Good value, great food - Welcome at the bar for check-in was very friendly. The room was a little 'tired' but clean. Bed very comfortable with lovely fluffy duvet. Shared toilet and bathroom clean and well stocked. Food in the bar is exceptional. Only gripe I have is the lack of a pillow. Three small cushions on the bed for decoration, but no pillow!
- Kerrie (10/5): Exceptional - Clean tidy, comfortable and good for the price Couldn't find where to leave the key so had to leave in the door
- Maria (6/5): Good for a very short stay - The owner and staff are really nice and kind, and the pizzas they make downstairs are amazing We had some issues with the heating on the first couple of days, and the shared toilet was very very small.
- Xired (6/5): Pleasant - The location was good The wifi was non existing
- Valeriia (9/5): Like at home - staff is very nice and attentive shared bathroom
- Zoe (8/5): A well priced, well located property perfect for if you're attending an event at The O2 Arena - The check in process at the bar was easy and the lady who checked us in was really lovely and gave us all the information we needed. The room was a really decent size with all the facilities we needed. The sink in the room was helpful for brushing teeth before bed. The shared bathroom is all you need for a night's stay - one toilet and sink facility and then a second larger bathroom with toilet, sink and bath/shower. Great wi-fi!
We chose The Ship Inn because of its price and its convenience for commuting to The O2 (the walk was only 10 mins from Island Gardens DLR and then a change at Canary Wharf to the Jubilee Line to get to North Greenwich!). Not much but:
1) Other reviews have mentioned this but the carpet in the room really could do with replacing. Whilst it's probably 'clean' the stains and marks give it the appearance that it isn't and I opted to keep socks on the whole time!
2) The bed wasn't the comfiest. Me and my friend both said we struggled with sleep as the bed wasn't particularly comfy.
Despite that, for the price, I really cannot say any more than that!
