Guest Reviews
- Michael (8/5): -
- Katie (7/5): Nice hotel, nice room, clean, good breakfast! - The hotel and pub was very good with plenty of character and nice interiors. Plenty of spaces to sit inside and out. The garden is particularly nice and welcoming.
The room was very nicely refurbished and decorated (I believe recently) and the breakfast was very good and all the staff were very helpful. Would stay again but in a different room. The negatives were that the room was in the attic and on a hot day this is not pleasant. We couldn't open any windows for a breeze even a couple of inches on each would have helped. I appreciate its a safety issue but it is nice to get some fresh air.
There was an aircon unit which we had to sleep with on all night, however this made a rattle noise every 20mins or so. Which in turn disturbed our sleep.
- Sylvia (8/5): - Room had all the facilities required
Clean, comfortable bed The reception desk ,could do with a permanent member of staff, to prevent the waiting, and looking for someone to help you
- Mya (8/5): Will be staying again. - The room was gorgeous, lovely private outdoor patio. Super convenient location 20mins walk to brockwell park & 20min tube / bus to Brixton & Peckham.
Fold out bed was easy to use and already had bedding - refreshments bar was fully stocked and we even had a mini fridge with both sparkling & still water.
Staff were super helpful - we arrived earlier than check in time so had to wait till the room was ready which was understandable. As we had come for a festival & needed to get ready the staff were extremely accommodating & let us get ready in a private room , great WiFi, Bar and food was good.
It's the 4th time I have stayed over several years and we have never been disappointed It was super hope during our stay - highest temperature was 33c.
We used the Manual to operate the AC however it didn't go lower than 19c and the air flow wasn't very strong so it was a very sweaty night! The only other option was to leave the patio door open which didn't provide much of a difference.
- Michael (7/5): - Room was nice Check in was quite painful and I got charged twice. The security lock didnt work on the door on the top floor meaning I walked up and down stairs a few times getting my key recut only to find the issue was the door. It might be worth advertising breakfast times at the place of booking. Ipaid for it, only to find out it doesn't start til 7am, when I had to be at work for 7am
- Jodie (10/5): What a find! - The room, the outdoor spaces, the food, the staff, all gorgeous! Nothing, we loved it, we will be back!
- Wenche (9/5): - Personalet var veldig hyggelige og hjelpsomme. Det var god service og rommene var rene.
- Alyson (10/5): Lovely hotel , will stay again . - Lovely room , quiet , clean and beautifully appointed. Friendly and helpful staff. Easy check in and checkout. We didn’t have breakfast but would definitely have some next time as the dining area looked great .
We will be back ! Our room was right at the top of the building and the lift only goes up to the first floor , not easy with luggage. Would request a room lower down next time.
- Nqobile (10/5): Excellent and very friendly staff - Everyone was so helpful Nothing
- Peter (10/5): -
- Nigel (9/5): Enjoyable stay looking forward to returning - Convenient location and quite at night. Breakfast was very good staff very professional and helpful Being completely honest whilst our room was very nice it was a little too compact (room 16)
- Kayleigh (10/5): A stylish, welcoming hotel in a great location with fantastic food and lovely staff. - Beautiful decor and a really lovely atmosphere throughout the hotel. All of the staff were friendly, welcoming and very helpful during our stay. The food was great and the location was perfect, with lots of lovely cafes and shops nearby to explore What didn’t you like about the property?
Nothing, we really enjoyed our stay.
- Carl (8/5): -
- Dave (10/5): Would definitely recommend - Beautiful place, all staff were so polite and welcoming and the food was beautiful Where to park wasn’t clear on the booking. It would be beneficial to state location of parking.
- Paul (9/5): -
- nicola (8/5): Convenient location with great staff - Convenient location and very helpful staff
Free parking TV did not work
Limited breakfast- no cereals or fruit on the buffet
- Kandola (8/5): -
- Neil (9/5): We had a great stay. Loved the property!! Would definitely do it again. - Great little place on top of the pub. No elevator so had to walk up three flights of stairs but not a problem unless someone has mobility issues.
- Windsor (10/5): Gem of an inn - staff are lovely - Stayed here to visit my brother in ICU at Kings so having a friendly/safe base to rest our heads was important to us. Every single member of staff (arrived on a busy Sunday lunchtime - roasts looked incredible) was so lovely, friendly and welcoming.
Stayed at a LOT of hotels/inns/pubs close to Kings hospital in the last 5 months and this tops them all. Got a great rate for our courtyard duplex room (paid the same amount for a tiny travelodge room the night before). The room was lovely - comfortable, spacious, super clean, free fancy coffee machine, biscuits and chilled water in the fridge.
The pub itself is beautiful and the hotel feels very luxurious but the staff make this place what it is. Rochelle, in particular was amazingly helpful, friendly and kind to us when we were feeling a bit frazzled. Nothing felt like too much to ask.
You can bring your own food into the beautiful pub garden which I always love. It faces back onto a lovely wooded space with massive trees framing the space. As an anxious insomniac I spent a lot of time in the shared courtyard area until silly o clock and I've never stayed somewhere so quiet in greater London. Free overnight car park spot and free parking opposite and down the side roads was also a big bonus.
If in doubt, book it now : ) The only tiny thing was that the lovely toiletries were in those lock thingys so you can't move them. I know a lot of places have problems with people nicking stuff but it was awkward using the lovely bath in the courtyard suite and having to stand up to get a bit of shower gel etc. Think it should be a bit more trust based but that is such a tiny personal irk of mine. The drinks and food are also quite expensive but it's Dulwich, and priced the same as any other upmarket inn. Plus they let you bring your own food in (we ordered pasta takeaway and brought drinks with us, I popped fo the bar to ask for glasses and ice, salt, pepper etc and they were more than accommodating)
There really wasn't anything significant that we didn't like.
- Peter (9/5): Perfect location in heart of Dulwich village - Perfect location, clean and comfortable room, great coffee making in room, excellent breakfast with many cooked options. The pub is warm and friendly. Would have been good to have fruit or porridge options at breakfast.
- Hazel (7/5): - Check in check out Lighting was dark and gloomy. Felt a lot of the time and it wasn’t obvious how to adjust the heating or if that was possible at all.
- Sakuntala (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joanne (9/5): - Room was beautiful and extremely clean
Breakfast was delicious and was cooked fresh to order Nothing
- George (8/5): All the staff were multi functional , very helpful , polite and switched on. and switched on. - Location suited our needs to a T Tv had no reception
- Kim (8/5): Great location, comfortable bedrooms, good food - Great location in the heart of Dulwich Village & well equipped bedrooms. Great food. Housekeeping staff (Carrie?), exceptional trying to sort out a room mix up. Late night or early morning noise near room 1. Doors banging, loud talking 12.30am/1am from reception area.
- Stefano (9/5): - I love the place, is beautiful and there is a very nice atmosphere.
- Gurmit (10/5): Lovely stay .Nice service - .Enjoyed the stay
Nice ambience No gluten Free bread for breakfast
Gluten Free Beer a bit dear
- Phillips (8/5): -
- David (9/5): Perfect. - Lovely room and bathroom. Excellent air conditioning. Very comfortable bed. Good coffee and biscuits.
Excellent breakfast options. Hard working attentive staff. Lift only serviced the first of three floors.
- Abigail (9/5): Boutique hotel vibes - I had a lovely stay here. The room was beautifully decorated with a very comfortable bed. The only downside was that the tv was not connected to an antenna signal so it didn’t work. But apart from that, the room was great. The air conditioning was appreciated in the room. And the breakfast was lovely.
- Bren (10/5): Perfect for what we needed. - Great location, quiet bedrooms in annex, very well kept.
- Rosa (10/5): Great place to stay and good location - Love the location, the outdoor area and the food. Room was a bit small but comfortable
- PILLAYEUGENIA (10/5): - The room was well decorated and the bed was large and comfortable, as were the pillows😊
Equipped with coffee machine and good coffee pods, plus kettle and teas. We had daily biscuits left for us.
The bathroom was large with a great walk-in shower, plud hair and body products. All looked brand new!
A big plus is that the room was quiet and no sound was heard from the pub downstairs.
A kind suggestion - would be nice to have slippers plus a shower cap and vanity kit.
- Jane (10/5): -
- Lucinda (9/5): Overall , very pleasant - Good location, nice decor Room on the small side
- David (7/5): Disappointing - Location and familiarity(we have stayed there many times from 2019) Didn’t feel the upgrade of rooms was an improvement- Room 14 dark, cramped - unable to open window- in fact quite a disappointment as compared to previous stays
- Anne (8/5): sfeer - de locatie te weinig keuze voor vegan
- Sophy (10/5): -
- Hannah (10/5): Great value for money - Breakfast was great and reasonably priced
Rooms were really nice and clean
Great value for money Nothing!
- Pieter (7/5): -
- Debby (9/5): Excellent location, friendly staff, well equipped clean rooms in a historic building. - Friendly staff, courtyards, food, cleanliness The price for the duplex was high compared to the double room but I needed the location at short notice and there was very limited choice of places to stay in that area.
- Claudia (8/5): -
- Michele (10/5): Great location great staff and facilities - Close to our wedding venue Nothing
- Matthias (10/5): -
- Sarah (10/5): -
- Ivo (10/5): - Coffee and treats in the room are great
Rooms feel new and fresh.
Great decor Reception sometimes was empty and took a while to have someone to help.
- Charles (8/5): Friendly and helpful staff. Dulwich Village very nice. - Nice new decor in rooms. Always clean. Hotel near to where we were visiting. No lift to upper floors
- sarah (10/5): -
- Carol (8/5): -
- Knight (5/5): Just okay. - Convenient location for event we were attending. Parking far from building. Saw no Blue Badge spaces whatsoever.
Light bulbs missing from desk lamp. No ability to open door to outside for fresh air.
Received text allowing for early / expedited check-out... but no way out of the building at 8am... as everything was locked, no staff at desk. Very inconvenient.
- Robert (10/5): - room, facilities, location, and staff. breakfast was exceptionally good. overall, the pub ambience and food is great, if a little pricey. The first room we went into wasn't quite ready for primetime: it was missing a shower knob after the renovations. We also had a recurring issue with our key cards not working after 24 hours, so we had to go to reception twice to get them reset.
- Marie (10/5): - Newly decorated lovely room staff really nice food good location perfect All great
- Jo-ann (10/5): -
- Geraldine (6/5): Stay was good. Invoicing problem unacceptable. Some communication photos shown. - Clean, good restaurant and food. Extremely cold bathroom.
A few days before staying on 30 December received notification saying booking disrupted booking cancelled. I phoned the venue who said my booking for two nights was fine all reinstated.
I received two more cancellation notifications. On arrival I paid for our two nights on my card. At that point - No one advised us that there was another booking in our name on their system. Then after we stayed I was checking my card statement and had been charged another £129. I phoned and emailed to find out why and was told we did not turn up and were charged. I got nowhere at all with the venue or booking.com who would not refund. It is clear that the venue put in another (duplicate ) booking for the 4&5 Jan 26 when I phoned on 30 Dec to check on our booking made in August 25 was okay.
I contacted my card issuer to sort it out. Which they did.
This I find completely unacceptable and suspected a scam.
- ALASDAIR (8/5): We travelled for a funeral from Nottingham and the food, drink and especially staff were all great. - Great breakfast, excellent location. The WiFi and phone reception was literally the only thing that could be faulted and the lack of it meaning temporarily that only cash payments were possible.
- Les (8/5): -
- Liz (10/5): -
- Anthony (9/5): - Very clean and well equipped. Communication was poor, we left an item in the room by mistake and called to see if it was still in the room, and did not receive any call back, and it was very hard to claim back our lost property, we never did get it back.
Communication was very poor.
- Raymond (9/5): It was fine - Evening meal and breakfast ok The stairs
- Paul (9/5): Great experience would recommend 100% - Lovely old pub and great friendly staff The walk to room 20 on top floor
- Katy (9/5): - Lovely place and friendly staff
- mary (9/5): Quiet and clean accommodation . - In exactly the right place for my needs Liked it all
- richard (10/5): -
- Diane (8/5): -
- Ashton (10/5): - Had a fabulous welcome.
In the heart of Dulwich village. Perfect location.
Great room. Beautiful high ceilings. Only minor thing. View of laundry bags from window.
- JOHANNE (10/5): -
- Camilla (8/5): - Der var rent, meget plads på værelset. Dejligt badeværelse og området var hyggeligt og tæt på små butikker og restauranter Ikke noget
- Nick (10/5): -
- David (9/5): - stairs
- John (7/5): Enjoyed the area but facilities could be better in hotel. - Room was the furthest away from ground level, on the highest floor and no lifts. We are both over 60 and had a heavy case to haul up to room. No help or offer.
- James (10/5): -
- Ignacio (8/5): Very quiet and enjoyable - Good room
Pub environment N/a
- Neil (7/5): Overall great trip - loved the location. - Great location and nice breakfast facilities. Property was tired and there was a function on which kept us awake.
- Adam (10/5): -
- Wendy (10/5): Never again! - Perfect location, clean, comfortable and ideal for our purpose. The fire alarm going off in the middle of the night! Totally disrupted our nights sleep. Didn’t have a clue what to do! Fortunately found a member of staff who advised us it was not a fire.
Very disturbing and completely ruined the following day when we had a long journey.
- Aaron (3/5): Overall a disappointment, would only stay here again if no other option and needed the same area. - Good location. Staff were friendly The room was FAR smaller than the photos. We were in room 14 which felt like a disused cleaners cupboard had been converted to a room. TV was very outdated, no smart features
- LINDA (9/5): -
- Kevin (8/5): - Great pub and locations 70 stair steps to room at top of the building.
- LINDA (9/5): -
- Christoph (10/5): -
- bbn (7/5): -
- patrick (9/5): -
- Glenn (10/5): We’ll be back. - Great breakfast. Fantastic staff.
- Kranzow (9/5): - Viel Platz im Familienzimmer, ruhige Umgebung, freundliches Personal, lokale Frühstück-Spezialitäten Grosse Temperatur-Unterschiede zwischen Zimmerbereich oben und unten. Keine WC Bürste im Bad.
- Kenneth (8/5): -
- Darren (10/5): -
- Jane (1/5): Very disappointing, spoilt a family occassion - The bar staff and breakfast staff were friendly Room, cleanliness, broken shower, very old pillows.
No hot water in original room I booked so we were moved to a downgraded room, up a flight of stairs, with no lift. We had 2 large cases. We did not get what we paid for.
The staff moved our cases before we had seen the room. Had we seen the room first, we would have asked for a refund and left.
- Nick (9/5): Perfect one night stay. - Location perfect for our purposes.
Just right with enough storage options
Clean and warm
Not far to travel after having something to eat in the pub below! Nothing of note
- ANTONINA (5/5): Not recommended - The location was suited to our needs Check-in was slow, staff couldn’t get system to work, disappeared for further instructions and returned with necessary information. Caused our waiting taxi to clock up a further £20 …
Room was on second floor in the eves - an odd shaped room, bed squeezed into small space leaving very narrow space on either side. No lift beyond first floor, stairs difficult for us in 80s.
Somewhat grubby, no toiletries as in the photo, no extra blankets - we were very cold in the night. Lumpy pillows.
Terrible breakfast, croissants frozen pastry badly baked. Recommend the bakery a couple of doors along.
The worst type of corporate accommodation - no attention to detail. Overpriced for what you (don’t) get. Will not stay again
- Ann (9/5): - Very good breakfast and very pleasant staff
- Melanie (8/5): -
- Stephen (10/5): - I have stayed at 'The Dog' on quite a few occasions now, excellent all round. I also first drank in the pub in 1980!! Nothing to mention.
- Paul (5/5): We stayed at this hotel as we needed to get to a family party - glad there are rooms to hire in D - Overall very nice and helpful staff Cooked Breakfast was very poor quality - bacon v salty - no cereal in the price - my husband has had a troublesome tummy since.
Room very cold when we arrived; took time to work out how to heat the room
- William (9/5): Really good - Excellent Breakfast! N/A
- Charles (10/5): Lovely stay in Dulwich Village - Location; historic background ; friendliness Nothing
