Guest Reviews
- rosyoutlook (8/5): - Great duplex room with river views. Fine bedroom and a perfect office upstairs for 4 days. A bit tired and grotty. Shower missing 1 screen door. But all functional and worked OK.

- Hamdan (7/5): Good - View very nice They dont charge The towel every day
- Amri (5/5): Passable -
- Galina (7/5): Good - The location is excellent, with stunning views of the Bosphorus. However, there were a few downsides. The drainage in the bathroom had a strong unpleasant smell, and there was a noticeable mouse-like odor in the room. The room itself was split across two floors but wasn’t well maintained, and I wasn’t entirely confident the bed sheets were freshly cleaned. Breakfast is included, but it’s quite basic — you go downstairs and wait for a lady from the nearby restaurant to bring over a simple meal. Overall, the setting is lovely, but the cleanliness and upkeep need improvement.
- Berat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Adnan (8/5): nice cosy place with the Golden Horn view - nice view and very helpful staff the noise coming from street
- Yuliya (2/5): They couldn’t provide the invoice on time when we asked again they sent an incorrect one and they can’t change it -
- Elaine (8/5): Very good - Wonderful location, great staff
- Ra'ed (9/5): Superb -
- Muhammad (2/5): Very poor -
- Denys (9/5): Superb - We were traveling with our dog, which wasn’t a problem at all for the owner.
There is parking nearby, but during the day it’s usually occupied by workers from the neighboring market. We initially parked on a parallel street and later, when spots opened up in the evening, we moved the car closer to the hotel.
The apartment was cozy and clean, with a comfortable bed.
Don’t be put off by the nearby construction materials market — everything a tourist might need is close by.
- Evgeniya (6/5): Location is superb and the view from the room, but wouldn’t rebook due to noise and state of the room. - Location is amazing, view from the room simply incredible. Staff was super friendly and helpful - gave us Turkish free for free, helped with taxi, allowed to leave luggage. Room was very tired, old, with really end smell in the bathroom, not very clean, it was loud till late night from the adjacent bars.
- Govind (9/5): Superb - The location was not that great, I was expecting a little different experience.
- Muhammad (6/5): It was fair stay, I would still consider staying in this accommodation in the future maybe. - We booked this hotel only for the location. Sadly, we were asked to pay extra if we wanted view of bosphorus without those trees blocking all the drama. We were disappointed that the bed on mezzanine floor has its frame broken so we were extremely cautious while using it. Don’t wake up early for breakfast, it was just 1 egg, few slices of tomato, few pieces of olives, and 2 slices of cheese. Nothing else. But the staff were nice, you knew they wanted to help but restricted of resources.
- Sokolova (10/5): Great location and very friendly atmosphere with a really nice room. - Beautiful location, with a very nice view. Super close to the ferry station and tram station. Big room, beautiful design, comfortable bed. Especially thanks to Sargon for the hospitality and very caring and friendly atmosphere. Welcome drink and breakfast are included. Also you can meet there a gorgeous cat with name Fanus.) The hotel has also a restaurant so you can enjoy very nice food there. Was an amazing stay!
- Nadezhda (10/5): Thank you very much to the manager Sargon. He is a very kind and responsive guy! This is not the first time I have staye - Very beautiful view
- Elena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Iana (7/5): Good - the view from the room is spectacular It was noisy until around 1:30 AM due to the surrounding restaurants, and we were awakened by the muezzin at approximately 7 AM. The room could benefit from more thorough cleaning and some renovation.
- Urszula (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment was absolutely perfect! The view is breathtaking—easily the best in the entire city. The location is fantastic, with metro and tram stations just steps away, and everything is within walking distance. The hosts were incredibly kind and welcoming, making our stay even more special. The apartment is cozy, ideally situated, and exceeded all our expectations. Thank you for a wonderful stay! We will definitely be back! Honestly, there was nothing we didn’t like. Everything was perfect, from the stunning view to the amazing location and the hospitality of the hosts.
- Vladislav (9/5): Superb - A very authentic place located on a narrow street lined with fish restaurants. The rooms are situated in one of these small restaurants, right above it. It's very cozy with a pleasant and friendly service. Initially, it might be a bit confusing that there's no reception desk, just a bar, but it doesn't affect the quality of service. The breakfast is modest but sufficient, and there's a discount at the restaurant itself.
- Andrey (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing stuff! Very helpful, all requests were dealt with promptly, when taxi could not come to hotel because of road closure
- helped us carry luggage a few blocks. Very good and tasty breakfast. Fanus the cat was the best part!
- Ziana (8/5): Very good - The location was central. Off a slip road overlooking the harbour. The staff were calm, helpful, warm and accommodated. Our room was on the first floor. Spacious and bright. Had all we needed. No hot drink facilities, but below was a cafe style restaurant in the evenings so all drinks could be purchased. Next door was a lovely fish restaurant. Less than 5 minutes walk to the bridge to the Bazar. 5 minutes on the other side was the metro. Galata behind. Location was the best. I was fine with everything, just to mention below does play music until early hours of the morning. And you can hear the clearing up after. I used my earphones to block it out. Stairs are the standard iron and narrow.
- Gian (6/5): Pleasant -
- Katrin (10/5): Exceptional - One of the cozy and comfortable place with incredible view and location.
- Robyn (10/5): Phenomenal! - Great location and views, easy to get to tourist spots whilst still feeling “local”. Sargon is a perfect host, even staying late for check in, providing breakfast, drinks and directions as needed! Highly recommend! N/A
- Robin (9/5): No 5* luxury bullshit, but a cozy, charming place to stay. - Super location, very very friendly and welcoming staff. Just a nice, cozy place to stay at. -
- Pavel (8/5): Very good -
- Dženana (9/5): Superb -
- Alexandr (10/5): Recommend - Best location in Istambul Nice stuff
- Robert (8/5): Amazing stay, location and staff are extremely helpful - The staff were amazing and very helpful. The location was outstanding and central to everything I needed to do on my visit Unfortunately I had issues with the toilet flushing but it was resolved
- Ahmad (1/5): Not very good - The view No elevator, I have to go three stairs to get to the room. It was tricky taking my luggage.
- Anchy1980 (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location, nice and helpful staff, size of room, comfortable bed, good breakfast...We will stay in Fanus when we back to Istanbul again! Nothing at all!
- Simina (7/5): An experience with good and bad - It was a pleasant city-break that we spent in Istanbul. The touristic spots are incredible with their history. You have to see once in a life Istanbul, including the muslim tradition is an experience to be lived.
The team at the hotel was made up of some very kind guys, who tried to meet all our needs and gave us all the informations and explanations we needed.
Tips for travelers:
1. avoid taxis, buses and opt for the tram. The traffic is hellish, the taxis are stuck in traffic jams, but the tram has its own line and runs perfectly, it also has air conditioning.
2. to get to the rooms you have to climb a very narrow and very steep metal staircase, it is totally contraindicated for elderly tourists or those with locomotor problems. The accommodation at Fanus Karakoy was average, the room was not 30 square meters as specified on the booking and the furniture is not enough. It was difficult to unpack the luggages because there is no closet, no drawers, or there is no actual hall, only a kind of stand with hangers at the entrance. The location is really on the Bosphorus promenade, but towards a small port where many ships were anchored, you couldn't actually see the Bosphorus from the room. The continental breakfast is a bit insufficient, at least for a man like my husband: 1 slice of salami, 1 slice of cheese and 1 slice of cheese, tomatoes, cucumbers, a few olives, a bowl with some traditional pasta, some fruit and coffee/tea. But the most unpleasant thing was the atmosphere near the hotel. Between the promenade where the hotel was located and the main boulevard where the means of transport were, you had to pass through a horrible market, with stalls full of sanitary and construction items, with the appearance of the old market, dirty, noisy, crowded, as in unfortunately, I can say that it is the whole city. We didn't enjoy walking around, except for the Bosphorus promenade and we looked for all kinds of ways to avoid the market.
And finally, on the last evening when we just had to pack our bags, the electricity went out, which, although the reception told us it would come in about an hour, it hadn't come even the next day when we left. It was "wonderful" to pack our bags by the light of the flashlights from the phones at 30 degrees in a room without AC, because it couldn't work without electricity. Also for this reason, tea or coffee could not be served at breakfast, but they were nice and offered us a glass of fresh orange juice. I understood that in the Karakoy area it is a frequent thing. :(
- Luca85italy (8/5): Very good - Nice stay and good position to visit the city. Sargon has been so nice with us. Grazie!
- Irma (10/5): Exceptional - The bed was really comfortable, the Location was great, the breakfast too, staff really friendly and always in the good mood. Dont hang your clothes under the AC, your clothes will be messy and wet.
- Monika (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing view and fantastic location 👌
Walking distance to all main attractions.
The hosts were very helpful and restaurant on the rooftop had great local food.
- Mahmoud (8/5): Very good -
- Ashlee (7/5): Good -
- Mary (7/5): Close to so many attractions! - The staff were kind and helpful. The proximity to so many attractions, and walk ability to public transportation were terrific The loud noise at night . The room could use a lamp. Overhead lighting is VERY bright!
- Mahmoud (8/5): Very good -
- Ganna (9/5): Great location, welcoming staff, good value for price - Clean spacey room with a great view. Tasty breakfast. Very nice welcoming staff. Bar and restaurant on the ground floor. All in all - great place to stay. Can be pretty loud if you open the windows. Though there is AC in the room
- Andries (8/5): Very good -
- Alish (7/5): Good -
- Adam (9/5): Excellent location and a fabulous host. - Fabulous breakfast and the host was very friendly and attentive. Bed was comfortable and the room had everything we needed.
- Badescu (10/5): Exceptional - All perfect!
- Matuka96 (10/5): We couldn’t have wished for a better place for our stay in Istanbul. - We loved the room, which was equipped with everything one needs for a short stay, and the view of the Golden Horn from our window was absolutely mesmerising, especially at night. The staff were among the most hospitable I have met, they were always helpful and caring, and we were greeted with a complimentary coffee. Fanus, the hotel cat filled the void we felt leaving our own cat at home. The breakfast was tasty and is a good selection of local cuisine. The neighbourhood was fine, close to most sights and public transport options. As other reviews noted, there’s noise coming from the outside during late evening hours, but it didn’t bother us that much. Bringing a pair of earplugs (which may also be needed if you don’t want to wake up for the early morning prayer call) is always a solution.
- Ilena (10/5): Exceptional - Great location, nice and comfortable rooms. Amazing staff, very friendly and helpful. Would totally recommend.
- Miguel (8/5): Nice hotel in a great location in Istanbul - Nice little hotel in a great location, main tourist attractions in Istanbul are within walking distance. Staff are nice and friendly and breakfast is a bonus. room could more spacious but location make sup for it :)
- Veronika (10/5): Exceptional -
- Koslifter (10/5): Exceptional - Very helpful staff!
Great location, incredible view on Bosforus from room!!!
- Dmytro (9/5): Superb - Really friendly staff, breakfast included, great location, good price Bathroom not clean enough
- Yanislav (8/5): Very good -
- Axel (9/5): Superb - Premiym location, nice and helpful staff If you can't deal with the noise from the restaurants, bars and ferryboats, you shouldn't book it. Bur then you will miss this unique spot of Istanbul
- nathalym279 (10/5): Place to stop for a pleasant drink and shade pause - Easy location and out of crowd
Good background music
Close to river and boat stop
Close to Galata tower
Very friendly and attentive host
Clean toilets
GREAT cappuccino !!
Second time here and we’ll come again before our departure 🤩
Owns good review
- Ruta (10/5): We really enjoyed our stay! - The view is the best! Location is super convenient! Friendly staff and Fanus cat (I'm in love :)). Great breakfast. Quite noisy at night. So if you're not a party person or don't have earplugs it can be a problem for you. :)
- Oliver (9/5): Superb -
- Montesi (7/5): Good -
- Helena (9/5): Happy and memorable - Friendly staff. Great views over river. Easy to cross river by tram across golden horn bridge or walk. Lovely restaurant with rooftop next door. Breakfast was served a bit later than we would have liked but it was very good.
- A.marques (7/5): Good -
- Giorgianafilip (8/5): Value for the money and great view - The view is really nice. The location is near the main attractions. The room is big and comfortable. The breakfast is served after 9.30 and was to late for us. They need to make some small renovations and clean the windows because the view is great.
Please be aware that rooms are accessible only by stairs.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - The location, the room, everything was great
- Andrei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Laugesen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alina (10/5): Exceptional - location
hospitality noise
- Reda (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely location and communication was friendly
- Suzie (9/5): Superb -
- Inna (10/5): Cute little spot in Karakoy. - Very friendly and welcoming staff.
Excellent breakfasts with fresh coffee.
Proximity to public transportation (metro, tram, ferries).
Waterfromt view. Cleaning was not done on a daily basis.
There might be some creepy people around the area at night.
- Anonymous (10/5): We enjoyed this place and we’re planning to get back there soon. - The staff is amazing, they are always eager to help and provide you with the best experience. Breakfast is exceptional 🤌🏼 Location is really good - pretty close to the main attractions. Rooms are cozy and beds are very comfortable.
- Ida (9/5): Great stay - Great location, delicious breakfast and a very comfortable room. The staff were very helpful, I was able to leave my luggage there for a few days and really appreciated the kindness. Very good value for money.
- Shaimaall (9/5): Superb -
- Maksizuty (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place ,close to all historical places in Istanbul
Excellent stuff guys topppp
Recommendation the best
- Evgeniya (9/5): Superb - I loved the view, the location and breakfast. There were lots of noises from lobby late in the evening.
- Elle (10/5): thank you - very near to the tourist spots and restaurants none
- Neslihand (9/5): Superb - The location was super central, with easy access, and a fantastic view of Golden Horn. The staff is super friendly. It is not about what I did not like, I only want to give more information. Unfortunately, it is not accessible by wheelchair. And if you have problems with climbing up flights you might want to skip it. Also, it is at the heart of taverns, so if you are sensitive to sound, you might want to think twice.
- Alireza (10/5): Exceptional - nice and cosy place for a short stay, perfect location and great hospitality, thanks Haroon
will stay again
- Jakub (8/5): Very good - Amazing location. You have a couple of steps anywhere! The staff was really helpful and nice. I will definitely consider the same place when I am back in Istanbul! The street is really noisy in the night. If you are sensitive to this consider.
- Maggie (8/5): The staff make this hotel worth a visit. - Staff! The young men who worked in the hotel make your stay utterly worthwhile. They go out of their way to make your stay pleasurable. I was a lone female traveller and staff always made sure I felt safe and well.
Sufficient number of sockets - including one close to a mirror for styling hair (always a necessity). Temperature of room was pleasant.
The hotel is pleasantly situated to access tourist sights on both sides of the water. Transport is easy to access and use and makes travel around Istanbul problem free and easy on one's wallet. Wardrobe and clothing space is limited. Hot water can be temperamental but generally OK. The hotel is small, but cosy and staff are very warm and friendly.
Can be a little noisy in the evenings, although this didn't stop me sleeping.
Bathroom needs a little sprucing up.
- Diane (8/5): would stay here again if I could get the upper room. - location, location, location. The staff were very friendly and eager to please. the breakfast was very good. The shower was a nice big size. Water was readily supplied. the street noise, in particular on the weekend, went well into the night. When you turned on the light in the bathroom, the fan came on and was very noisy. oír room was small.
- Dmitrii (8/5): Very good -
- Osman (7/5): Good -
- Malika (9/5): Friendly helpful staff, comfortable, loved the location and rooftop restaurant, and would return! - Since this is a small hotel, there was not the usual Turkish breakfast buffet. Our plates were brought to us. But they were beautifully prepared, and had a nice variety of usual items. If you especially want, or don't want something - just let them know. Sargon and Haroun were very friendly and helpful and spoke good English. The room was comfortable and had all that we needed. The location is terrific - close to Galata Bridge, the boardwalk, the tram over to Eminönü, Beyoglu & Galata Tower & Istiklal Street just up the hill - yet you are out of the dense crowds, by the open air of the Golden Horn. The tea and coffee are available and tasty, easy to enjoy on the outdoor tables in front, where we enjoyed people-watching. Special bonus - an excellent fish-based restaurant on the roof with a beautiful view of the Bosphorus & Golden Horn - with very reasonable prices! In addition to eating (3 times!) in the rooftop restaurant, we paid for airport transport (at 4:30 am on the final morning), and it was very good. The first night, we were a bit surprised by the level of late-night noise. All those fish restaurants nearby and along the Galata Bridge were playing music, or had live musicians. Plus there was crowd noise. We didn't expect that - so that is something to know. In the end, it became more of a "white noise". With the windows and drapes closed, it did not keep us awake at all. We came to like it, in fact. But it's something to be aware of if you're coming to stay here. Also, if it's important to have a view like the one in the Booking photo, you'll want to be on an upper floor. We were on the first floor above ground level, and we had more of a trees-and-street view, which was okay with us. It's a friendly, informal operation, with a youthful vibe. (We are in our 60s, but we felt very comfortable.) Expect to climb stairs - there's not an elevator.
- Luca (8/5): Super suggested - Location strategic for transport
Staff super friendly
Breakfast
Style of rooms Just Need to have a clear schedule of cleaning shifts, but apart from that, everything was good :)
- Dmitry (9/5): Superb - Perfect location! The humidity. It was quite high, but I suppose it's normal for the city.
- Vio (10/5): Excelent accomodation - Very good position, near Galata Bridge, sightseing over the Golden Horn. Very friendly staff. They offered us tea and coffee for free, any time, and we find 2 big botles of water in the room. We could leave the luggage from check-out until leaving in the afternoon. Room with hairdrier, fridge, aer conditioned, cup for boiling water for tea, tv, slippers, shower gel, shampoo, other bathroom items. Good breakfast. Good wi-fi in the reception and in the room. They have a good restaurant where you can eat well or drink something. We will revert and recomand to our friends. TV with only one chanel in turkish.
- Denis (10/5): Fantastic! - Amazing views of Galata Bridge and main attractions of Sultanahmet from across the Golden Horn in Karaköy! Close to tram station, ferries, Galata Tower and Istiklal Cad. Exceptional, caring and interested staff full of recommendations, advice and always willing to assist - Haroun was fantastic; Mukaddes and Fatma also helped to make our stay extra pleasant. Accommodation was clean, comfortable and had everything we needed. Generous traditional breakfast. Reasonably priced, ice cold beers. The adjoining Dem Fish Restaurant was also excellent and reasonably priced! Truly a magnificent stay! Nothing!
- Jonatan (10/5): Best staff ever. - They have the best staff ever. They go above and beyond to make sure you are comfortable and happy. breakfast was great also. Shower had excellent pressure. Air conditioner worked perfectly. the immediate area is not amazing but you are really short Walk from pretty much everywhere tho.
- Vladimir (3/5): Poor -
- Lynette (9/5): Good location, lively environment and hotel staff were willing to please. - The breakfast was adequate but sometimes it was difficult to get it- staff were in another part of the building/did not hear bell ringing Was not aware that there would be stairs but I dealt with it
