Guest Reviews

- Tim (8/5): Charming hotel in a historic Ottoman house, close by everything yet in a quiet street. - Very nice hotel in a historic building. Lovely room although a bit dark sue to small windows. But the location is so good, at the end of the busy strip’ so all is close by but you’re in a quiet area. Service is great. Nothing really.
- philippe (8/5): - Lots of character for a historic place in the heart of this beautiful city. The staff was extremely welcoming and breakfast was generous.
- tamar (9/5): - The host knoledge and hospitality

- Agron (9/5): One day visit, beautiful hotel, very nice people - Great authentic hotel, location perfect, staff went extra mile to help with parking near by (opposite the hotel). They offered options for the room, but, we liked our originally booked one. Breakfast was absolutely very good. Nothing that comes to my mind. All good. Thanks to Dritan and staff.
- Roberta (8/5): - Hotel molto carino, pulito e in un’ottima posizione. Colazione locale deliziosa Nulla
- JHony (10/5): Hospedagem perfeita. Decoração do quarto é linda .
- Yiber (10/5): - The Old Bazaar is one of the best place to stay in the town , very well organised and very clean, very great breakfast, and the owner is very friendly kind,
Is worth it every Pany you pay to stay.
- Devavratt (10/5): - We enjoyed our stay in this traditional Ottoman house lovingly converted into a hotel. The hosts showed us around on arrival. Those with mobility issues should be aware there are quite a few stairs and no lift. But that didn't put us off. We stayed in the Queen's Suite, which was comfortable and clean. The location is perfect - 15 mins hike to the Castle and 10 mins to the Old Bazaar. Loved stepping back in time.
The breakfast was good spread.
- Peter (9/5): Very nice, clean hotel, friendly staff, good value - Nice, traditional hotel, good value Nothing
- Samuel (10/5): Really interesting and pretty place. The owner is really lovely, and the breakfast was incredible! -
- O'donnell (8/5): Very good - Beautiful traditional property. Would have been more comfortable and more cost effective to have had a 3 bed and a 2 bed room rather than all 5 in one family room.
- Elvis (10/5): Exceptional -
- Prue (9/5): Lovely place to stay - Great spot close to Bazaar and good restaurants. Lovely staff. Quiet. Some rooms like staying in a traditional house.
- Hayley (8/5): A comfortable traditional stay in the heart of Gjirokaster - Great location right next to the Old Town. A perfect size room for one night with comfortable bedding.
Once we arrived, we walked everywhere which helped remove the stress of driving on the tight roads. The manager was very kind and helpful with recommendations and was eager to please.
We also enjoyed the breakfast selection! Nothing
- Christenson (10/5): Perfect location, great breakfast and beautiful building - The property was beautiful and in such a great location. The price was very cheap for what we got and the breakfast was one of the best experiences I’ve ever had. The staff was so incredibly nice as well. There wasn’t anything I didn’t like
- Eike (10/5): Gorgeous room, perfect location to explore old Gjirokastra - Very beautiful, perfectly restored room. We felt like in a museum.
The host were very attentive and always available.
The location is near to the historic city center and most sights
- Bregu (10/5): Exceptional -
- Renato (10/5): Amazing Great Hospitality -
- Ariela (10/5): Exceptional - A charming and authentic stay in the heart of Gjirokastër’s old town. The location is perfect, just steps away from the historic bazaar. The room was clean, comfortable, and full of character, with beautiful traditional decor. The staff was incredibly welcoming and helpful. Highly recommended for anyone looking to experience the true atmosphere of Gjirokastër.
- Evangelos (9/5): Superb - Beautiful building, good location right above old town. We did not have any issues with noise from traffic or restaurants, but did wake up owing to religious sounds.
Comfy beds, spacious veranda.
Good breakfast (though juice was not fresh) served by a very nice lady.
There's a parking right across (doesn't belong to the hotel) which is practical. No electric kettle, no coffee/ tea facilities.
Fridge was not plugged in when we arrived and this wasn't visible.
- J. (10/5): Great hotel with fantastic views - Fantastic location in the old town. Beautiful hotel in an old Ottoman restored house. Very nice staff.
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional - It was a perfect stay, thank you very much.
- Bruce (10/5): Exceptional - Manager excellent- very well informed - fluent multi-lingual- fascinating and very kind. This is the best place. A pleasure to stay here. Highly recommend.
- Alban (10/5): Exceptional -
- Elad (10/5): Best stay we had in Albania - Staff were welcoming and the property is beautiful
- Steven (8/5): Lovely room in a traditional building - We booked the Deluxe King Suite, it's an impressively large room full of character. Good AC in the room. Nice lady who greeted us and checked us in. In a great location close to all the tourist streets. Breakfast was ok but felt it could have been better at this price point i.e. fresh orange juice. Some noise at night due to local bars, but that's not their fault, it wasn't the worst and I am sensitive to noise. Beware that parking in this area is challenging, there's only 2 spaces for the hotel and the streets to get there are very tight, you may be best to park in the town centre underground car park and walk up.
- Peter (10/5): Recommended - A beautiful room in a historic building centrally located just minutes from the castle and the bazaar district of Gjirokaster. Very good breakfast and friendly staff.
- Sharon (9/5): Superb -
- Andreas (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location with ancient flair
- Julie (9/5): Perfect place to stay while discovering Gjirokaster ! 100% recommended - Perfect location to discover the city, friendly and helpful staff, good breakfast on a nice balcony Everything was very good !
- Erlet (7/5): Good - Located in the heart of Gjirokastra old town, in an old, traditional, ottoman style house. Friendly staff. Hard mattresses. No shades in the windows (common in Albania). The toilet seat (and lid) were not fixed and you could easily slide aside while seated.
The hotel has only 2 reserved parking spots on the street, which are usually occupied by non guests. There is a private parking place just opposite the street, that will charge you 7 euros per night instead of 5 mentioned in the booking confirmation (that’s till checkout at 10:30, then 2 euros per hour).
- Darian (10/5): Unforgettable stay in Gjirokastër - The Old Bazaar was absolutely perfect! I wanted to stay in a traditional hotel/house in Gjirokaster and I was not disappointed by the beautiful room -with a small patio and view of the mosque --with its impeccable decorations and gorgeous furniture. The owner has paid attention to every detail, while integrating modern "creature comforts". The bathroom was spacious and had an ample walk-in shower. The common areas for breakfast were absolutely divine with a gorgeous view of the valley below.
I cannot rave enough about the hospitality. Both the owner and her staff, especially the evening/overnight doorman host, were beyond kind and helpful. He especially had lots of tips of where to go in town, and was helpful arranging a taxi to my bus, among other things. The breakfast was fabulous and abundant: fruits, cheese, eggs, Albanian pancakes and honey, delicious coffee and fresh cool water from the local spring. Please make sure you eat a lot because the staff puts tremendous effort and love into this breakfast and it shows. I left early in the morning, and the same evening/night host arranged to have the breakfast ready for me an hour early. I hadn't asked, but it was this sort of attention to detail that makes this place very special.
I was disappointed only that I had just two nights here and couldn't stay longer in Gjirokastër. It is a charming town with incredible views, and a slow pace. Enjoy your time! Everything was perfect.
- Naveen (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (10/5): Good to be back - The people were happy to have us visit for the second time. They helped us out with parking, showed us around the beautiful house, and had our table waiting for breakfast every morning. Nothing.
- Mark (8/5): A step back in time - Beautiful, historic building in the Old Town. Amazing room - like being a Pasha. Very helpful staff. Good breakfast. Great location. A bit of outdoor space like a garden to sit in.
- Christine (10/5): Great location, beautiful hotel - Beautiful old house. Very clean and comfortable. Staff very professional and welcoming. Awesome breakfast. Awesome location 3 min walk from the citadelle/castle. In the old bazaar. Right In the middle of what you need to visit. We really enjoyed our stay
- Andreja (10/5): Exceptional -
- Leesa (9/5): We would definitely choose this hotel again. - Loved the traditional decor and the big spacious room. It’s an amazing location in the immediate vicinity of the old Bazaar. The host at reception and Anilla who handles the bookings, were very friendly, welcoming and accomodating. We had to leave the hotel early on our last day, so they ensured breakfast was ready for us a half hour earlier than the usual time. There was a musty smell from the rooms bathroom drains, but I guess this is to be expected from an older hotel and location.
- Yanbo (8/5): Very good - Good breakfast. Shower & toilet.
- Rim (8/5): Beautiful experience - Beautiful hotel, rooms are very clean and confortable, the breakfast is lavish and excellent.
The staff is absolutely adorable and very helpful The location is very central which convenient but too much noise from the center in the evening (music, parties...) not ideal to rest.
- Dimitrije (10/5): Probably the best place to stay in Gjirokaster - The location is excellent. Close to the fortress, as well as the old town. I loved the old Ottoman-era house and vibe. The view of the mosque from the terrace was just stunning. The hosts were very friendly and acommodating. n/a
- Anna (8/5): Beautiful stay in a historical building - Location, decoration, breakfast Weak security (my credit card information was stolen since the hotel was hacked, no compensation disappointingly), poor understanding / communication (I was mistaken for an error that another guest has done)
- Kenneth (10/5): It was the loveliest place so far on our month-long journey. I highly recommend this hotel. - This hotel was absolutely amazing, mostly due to the incredible staff, particularly Anila, who was just the loveliest and kindest of persons. She and her male colleague (I forgot his name) treated us beautifully, including making sure we had something to eat and coffee before our early departure. They know how to provide excellent customer service. The location of the hotel is the best in Gjirokaster, located right in the center of the old city and close to the old house museums, the castle fortress, and the old bazaar and restaurants. You couldn’t find a more convenient location in Gjirokaster. Finally, we had the King Suite (Room 206), which was magical and made us feel like we were back in time and staying like a Pasha in the best room in the city. This hotel was absolutely superb in every way! This hotel is perfect. I wouldn’t change a thing.
- Stephanie (8/5): Nice stay - Very nice host, perfect location
Nice rooms with terrace Very basic breakfast
Bad isolation, you can hear everything happening in the street
Bad mattress and very thick pillows
- Penet (10/5): AMAZING - I had a great time with my friends. The place is so cool and comfortable!! The place to stay in Gjirokastra🥰. I am coming soon again 😊
- Jurtin (7/5): Good -
- Caroline (7/5): Great property but only if dou fet a hood room. Staff was wonderful. - Loved the property with old architecture and the great location. Super lovely staff. Our room was next to the reception desk so we could hear everything when people checked in or out. Breakfast was meh.
- Alex (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anna (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful historic building
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Douglas (9/5): Superb -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The staff were incredibly friendly and helpful. I left my phone in Himare and they went well out of their way to help me get it back. Great breakfast and the room was huge!
- Corinne (9/5): I would definitely recommend a stay at Hotel Old Bazar. - Breakfast was amazing and set on nice covered balcony. The staff was welcoming and helpful in giving us recommendations. The rooms are beautiful!!! Like sleeping in a museum The parking is not always free...
- Kristina (6/5): Great position for visiting gjirokaster, could have been a little more comfy - Great position - located short walk from centre of the old town; friendly staff Slightly worn decoration, bed not the most comfortable and no proper curtains for all windows.
- Stephen (10/5): Wonderful stay would have liked to stay longer - Great location and very helpful who went above to accommodate an early start on the morning we left. It was the most comfortable bed we had in Albania. The breakfast was really good. Highly recommended Nothing
- Jazz057 (10/5): Historical hotel in the heart of the bazaar - Very well located, a stone throw away from the Old Town and the Old Bazaar. Very quiet at night. Both building and interior are Ottoman style, which is very charming. The room is comfortable with all the necessities. The Albanian breakfast is massive and tasty, with a view over the mountain and the old Ottoman houses. And, the staff is kind and always willing to help you. Thank you again ! Nothing.
- Felix (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect location, historical building, personnel very helpful and friendly (especially the man on the nightshift). Breakfast typical for Albania: fried eggs, fried sausages, tomato, cucumber, bread and different marmelades. When I asked for gluten free breakfast (celiac disease) they managed to make it possible. I haven't yet found gluten free bread in Albania! They have a few hotel parking spots, but there's also a parking lot right behind the hotel. Nothing !
- Holly (10/5): A beautiful village and hotel - Beautiful property, comfortable and lovely staff. Right in the guts of the old town
- Jean-charles (9/5): Superb - We loved the Old Bazaar 1790 hotel. Staff were extremely friendly and helpful. The hotel occupies a beautiful old mansion and gives you the impression to live in Girokastra's old times. It is very well located but just enough removed from activities to be very quiet. The room was comfortable and the breakfast good. Value for price ratio was excellent. Nothing!
- Spyros (8/5): Highly recommended - Excellent location and friendly helpful staff. Our room had great views. Nowhere to hang your clothes in the bathroom
- Besi (5/5): Passable -
- Giorgia (10/5): Exceptional - The room has a nice terrace where we had the fresh breakfast
- Jeb-on-tour (9/5): Superb - Wonderful old ottoman house. Terrific location in the centre. We got a parking space right outside but there is also private paid parking opposite. Very kind and friendly. Huge room with divans and original furniture. Very good WiFi. The old house is naturally a bit noisy, especially from the wooden floors and staircases.
- Anonymous (10/5): Perfect! - Everything! Beautiful and traditional Albanian rooms. Very comfortable. Stunning views from the room. The staff are all so kind, especially Dritan (?unsure how to spell his name) and the other lady that manages during the day. Helped us with parking. The most delicious and fresh breakfast was served. Nothing.
- Abdulla (8/5): Very good -
- Tobias (10/5): Highly enjoyed staying at Old Bazaar - The family suite was beautiful and characterful (traditional) and spacious. Bathroom was good with fully contained shower. Staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was huge and delicious. Location was excellent. Overall highly recommend staying here! There’s only 1 parking space which wasn’t available on the first night, but they found us somewhere else to park very nearby for a small fee
- Elvis (10/5): Exceptional - Authentic place in the old city within walking distance from main attractions! The rooms are clean and comfortable. Delicious breakfast with an amazing view. I would definitely recomend.
- Romy (9/5): Amazing, nice staff -
- Alexandre (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing old 17th century house renovated into a hotel by a local. The staff is very professional. Location is right in the center and the queen and king rooms are absolutely massive. Very clean. If you want a cool room pick the queen room which is below the king room and naturally cooled. The view is better from the king room though. nothing
- Margarida (10/5): Exceptional - I like everything about the hotel. Staff was very nice and kind. The location is great, right in the old city. The room was spacious, very comfortable. The breakfast was amazingly rich. They accept euros or lek. The pavement of the old city is difficult, so we parked the moto in a closed public park a few hundred meters from the hotel (8€ for ~ 18h). But they have closed parking for 5€.
- Elsy (10/5): Exceptional - Most friendly staff. Breakfast is excellent. Beautiful historic building. Strongly recommended!
- Ishbel (9/5): King suite is recommended - Very central location, quite near to the highest point of the old city (which is good when you arrive by car and then sightsee on foot!) King suite is very special. Staff are lovely. Quite a lot of stairs to get to the room which was hard when we are carrying heavy bags.
- Antonio (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathryn (9/5): Beautiful traditional hotel in great location - Beautiful traditional hotel. Some of the upper rooms were absolutely stunning. Perfect location and lovely staff Not sure how they allocate rooms - our two were at opposite ends of the hotel even though booked together and very far in advance.
- Rugova (10/5): Exceptional -
- Tim (9/5): Historical lodgings in a beautiful town on a mountainside - Beautiful old house in a quiet location with very friendly staff. Breakfast is a pleasure on the first floor terrace with a view of the valley. Nothing.
- Marcello (9/5): Superb -
- Serban (10/5): Beautiful experience in a nice old town - Very nice old building, close to the city center, old town, nice staff, autentic experience Everything was fine
- Daniel (10/5): Best place in Gjirokastra - All of it. It is such a great place with a great staff, great breakfast, great place, great view and I could keep going. That I only had 5 days there
- Ronnie (9/5): Superb - Staff were great friendly and helpful. Felt very comfortable there. Nice and relaxed atmosphere. Great location to the castle and the bazaar. The actual building is beautiful
- David (10/5): Perfect mix of helping out and informality. - Class act in all respects. Big thanks to Anila and Tane who take genuine interest and go that extra mile to accommodate. Even helped out with car rental. Falemenderit !
- Suzanne (7/5): nice caring staff - some lovely rooms beware if you have difficulty with stairs
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional - Clean and comfortable room with beautiful decor, excellent location right next to the old bazaar, helpful and friendly staff Breakfast could have been better
- Judith (10/5): Amazing - The staff was amazing the hotel was unique and the breakfast was wonderful Nothing
