Guest Reviews
- Kerrie-Anne (7/5): Location is great - Location Check - in could be improved. We left our bags at the hotel early, unable to check in early, we advised we had a wedding and not sure of our return time. Staff advised we would get a code if we weren’t back by 11pm. When I hadn’t received a code nearing 11pm, I tried calling multiple times unable to get through. So my husband left the wedding, taxied back to make sure we had access to the room.
Suggestion, send the code earlier in instances like this.
- Warren (8/5): Great highly recommend. - Great location easy transit or walking to most locations. It was fine. Old charm .
- Kerry (7/5): Wouldn't stay again - Good location and quirky. It was very hot - no air-conditioning and the ceiling fan was pretty useless. We managed to prop open the window using a wooden coat-hanger. The bed was not comfortable and I was bitten by something during the night - not sure if it was mosquitoes or something else.
- alison (8/5): great location, amazing views and a very quaint hotel. - Location is fantastic. Room was generous with a great view from the balcony. Rooftop bar very nice. Shower temperature was a bit hit and miss. Was a bit noisy at night - can hear other guests coming and going and even in their rooms.
- Sharon (8/5): Suitable for my needs. - Proximity to our event The creaky floors all night. I know it’s an old place and I get that but it was annoying.
- Rosemarie (6/5): - Location was fantastic 👌 Shower was disappointing, water was not warm enough.
Very hard to get a good night's sleep with outside noise.
- Karen (9/5): Great location with all the comforts, just need to focus on cleaning to remove dust! - The location, comfortable room and bed, products were nice too TV and table and outside furniture was very dusty!
- Daniel (10/5): -
- Philip (7/5): a great experience - This Hotel is a bit of a fave due to its location and heritage charm. The food and drink options are also good too, and the staff were efficient, helpful and friendly. The heritage charm has its upsides, but a few rickety floorboards in the room and the aircon struggling to cope with the autumn humidity detracted from that experience.
- Marinus (8/5): -
- Harding (8/5): Fantastic little hotel right in the Rocks area with great views and vibe. - Fantastic location and views. Heritage listed hotel with all the modern conveniences. Bonus that we had a little verandah. Views of the harbour bridge and the rocks. The mattress in the Alice Muskett room needs to be replaced. It is very uncomfortable. Other than that everything was great.
- Perri (8/5): Perfect location - - Excellent location, easy walk to theatre down the road.
- Rooftop bar / restaurant is fantastic with beautiful views
- Jackie (8/5): Will book here again and make time to spend in the rooftop bar also - Great location for the event we were attending. Views over the harbour were awesome and it was really quiet.
- Adam (5/5): -
- Tanita (10/5): Amazing view of Sydney Harbour Bridge and the History of the building is incredible. The rooftop bar is gorgeous. -
- Rebecca (10/5): Fantastic - really amazing find and the staff were super friendly - Great location tucked away from the hustle of Sydney CBD but close enough to walk to. The view from the top floor of the Sydney Harbour Bridge was amazing! We had a room on the Barangaroo side and the traffic was noisy. I'm not sure how you would fix this problem however.
- Yuka (10/5): -
- Ben (10/5): - The view was amazing from my room. I arrived late and the guy at the bar was very friendly and welcoming. I'd stay here again as it is only 4 mins walk from the metro and if you like jogging, there is a great path really close by.
- David (10/5): -
- James (10/5): We love our weekend getaways in Sydney . This will now be our favourite location . - Everything!!!! But most of all the amazing views from our balcony.
- Gillian (8/5): Very pleasant. -
- Pamela (8/5): - It was close to the Pirt
- Kristy (8/5): Classic historic pub stay - Lovely old hotel in a great location. Staff are lovely and helpful. As it is an old building expect some creaking and moaning. One blind was not able to be lowered in the room so it was an early wake up.
- Pitman (8/5): - Views, architecture, vibes Too much dust, triggered allergies
- Colleen (8/5): - Location and view The creaky floors in our room
- Jodi (8/5): - Location was great, easy walk to everything.
Beautiful building. Our room George power was a lovely room great character.
The only fault is it is a very warm room. Great for winter but not so good when the weather is warmer.
- Lisa (8/5): Great value and lovely location to explore Sydney. - Great small but comfortable room which was close to local attractions. Nice and clean with a view over Barangaroo. Pub downstairs and rooftop bar with beautiful views above. Great value! The room was starting to get a bit knocked around. Perhaps time for a facelift.
- Michael (8/5): Vosses - Great location
Roof top bar amazing
Staff were great Rooms dated and no air-conditioning, was very hot and uncomfortable
- Natalie (10/5): Fabulous - We absolutely loved the property. It was fantastic value for the gorgeous hotel that it was. It was is such a great location with a walk to hop onto our Cruise ship. We can’t thank you enough, from the early check in to the time we checked out it was amazing We loved all of it
- Sandra (7/5): -
- Veronica (10/5): -
- Kerryn (6/5): - Location Hot rooms , bad lighting
- stuart (8/5): Good value and almost perfect - Loved the location and the views.
Friendly staff. Loved the historic vibe. Air conditioning was ok only. Quite noisy and took hours to cool the room down. The ceiling fan in the bedroom was also very noisy.
- 二宮 (9/5): -
- Jennifer (6/5): -
- Snedden (8/5): - location facilities value for money
- Kathleen (9/5): -
- Jacqueline (9/5): Charm and Character - Fantastic views. Young enthusiastic staff. Great location. Loved our balcony view of the Harbour Bridge!
- Derek (1/5): Brutal - Nothing Not secure and Booking.com photos do not represent the actual room presented. We cancelled and received a full refund from the manager except the approximate $200 to Booking.com.
We request full refund from Booking.com
- Jamie (9/5): - View was amazing. Hotel was quirky and different, with more character than most international hotel chains. For the price, there wasn't anything I particularly missed.
- Asciak (10/5): Amazing and enjoyable location to stay for the night. - Location and the view from our balcony. N/A
- Barry (5/5): We enjoyed it but it needs some upkeep - The view is amazing and the staff were nice . But in our room the carpets were dirty and the light in the bathroom blew . Also the room was tiny
- Naseer (1/5): Bad experience - Very bad experience Safety
- Martin (10/5): - Perfect location, amazing rooftop bar. Good food, comfortable room.
- JOHN (7/5): -
- Andrew (8/5): -
- John (8/5): -
- Martin (9/5): - Excellent location
- Power (9/5): Hotel Palisades exceeded my expectations. The location doesn't get much better if you like walking. - Loved the location as it was central to what my plans were for the few days. The fact that it was located in an old pub was fun and different. The staff in both the pub and the rooftop bar were very friendly, outgoing and informative. I did love how the rooms were all themed and had a balcony however my room was pretty dusty and the bed head needs a good clean too. I wouldn't say the bed was overly comfortable, instead-tolerable to okay. Despite the nice breeze blowing through, an aircon unit would have made the room near perfect for a better night's sleep.
- Kelly (8/5): - Loved the history of the building. We found the staff super friendly. Especially Tom, Nick and Lachy. The pillows were pretty uncomfortable for me. The floor was really noisy but that’s not so much something that can be fixed, just something we didn’t like.
- Dennis (8/5): Just OK for short stay - Location
Quirky renovation
Views from room No breakfast available
Too loud music in lounge
No towel rails in bathroom
No clothes hooks in bathroom
No shelf in bathroom for toiletries
- Norman (10/5): -
- Forty45 (8/5): - . .
- Narelle (7/5): - Love the atmosphere Needs a bit of a paint job and air con
- Manuel (10/5): - Mega Lage, wahnsinnig tolle Rooftop-Bar mit Blick auf die Harbour Bridge Zimmer etwas klein, geht aber.
- Thompson (6/5): The staff when we arrived was excellent, very helpful - That the room was large and unique That staff don’t arrive until 10 am only because we had an early tour and unable to store our bags
- lee (10/5): Great views from Rooftop bar - Location was very handy to Circular key and Darling Harbour Need a longer electrical cord for jug
- David (5/5): -
- Steven (8/5): -
- Rhonda (10/5): Great view.. great value.. great position - The view was to die for from the William Bennett room! Good size… everything we needed was there.
Staff were friendly and accommodating in leaving bags there early.
Fan and portable aircon were more than enough… bed was comfortable.. Luna park even did fire works! Nothing
- peter (10/5): - Great location
- Mark (9/5): - Locations and view
- Jasmine (9/5): Fantastic spot in Sydney - Location was great. Room was sweet and cosy. Nice shower. Loved the balcony. Things were a bit rough round the edges and it could use some love but didn't effect comfort.
No aircon.
- Gino (5/5): See above - Room was not cleaned for 2 days but we had a great experience with the manager on site name T (female) she was also responsible for managing the bar upstairs. She took great care of us and addressed all our issues. Your lucky to have her working for you. See above
- Caroline L. (10/5): -
- Susan (10/5): Will stay again - Relaxed Food was not a highlight
- Charilaos (1/5): Could wait to leave the next day. - There was nothing to like. This Hotel was a nightmare. They guaranteed us a 2pm check in and that did not happen, the sink in bathroom had mold, the door knob to the door in patio did not lock and was about to fall off. No A/C, paint chipping from the ceiling and no closet to put your close. We do not understand how they are in business…..
- Margaret (8/5): Quirky hotel, helpful staff - Comfortable bed. Brilliant views in the rooftop bar
- Wendy (9/5): Character filled hotel on the hill - We thought that this old heritage hotel
was interesting and had alot of character. Perched on the top of a hill, it had commanding views of nearby Millers Point and Barrangaroo.
Our deluxe room was spacious and clean and the bed was super comfy.
The staff were very helpful and friendly. We visited the roof top bar/restaurant where we enjoyed a delicious meal on the terrace overlooking the harbour. It was a truly unique experience.charactet
- Jheneene (10/5): -
- Jodi (6/5): - Location and View Needs freshening. Tired and damaged soft furnishings.
- Craig (6/5): - Location in relation to the Roslyn Packer Theatre Photos didn't match reality
- Deborah (7/5): -
- Deborah (5/5): Perfect view - The view is the best thing about the property. The staff - they have no idea what they are doing. The room was meant to be ready at 3pm and it wasn’t. We ate at the property which was not busy. No one bothered to tell us when our room was ready. The guy said he would take our bags up when it was ready. We got to the room and our bags weren’t there. The staff walk around in a daze, they have no idea about customer service at all.
- Julien (10/5): -
- Theresa (9/5): -
- Tim (4/5): - Location to Reserve area and a 10 min walk to Circular quay The cleanliness was poor. I did comment but was told it was an Heritage building. Also a light bulb was never replaced after being told of the problem. Our bed was not made on another day but clean towels were left on the unmade bed. 😞
- Bryan Lynch (10/5): -
- Laurel (5/5): - Staff very friendly, happy to help. Rooms do not have air-conditioning. Rooms very small. Glad we were only there 1 night.
- Katrina (8/5): - INCREDIBLE VIEWS! Very comfy bed, fantastic location, chilling out on our balcony before and after dinner ❤️
- Leanne (9/5): Loads of character & original charm - Great location
Clean & comfortable
Lots of character No flyscreens or air conditioning
- Hollie (6/5): - Great views of the bridge etc. Very old and tired and pictures look like they must be several years old.
Not clean and could do with a really good refresh and deep clean of the rooms.
- Cameron (10/5): - Beautiful old building well furnished with amazing views and fantastic friendly staff Not staying longer
- Christine (9/5): Loved it. The view from our balcony and the beautiful upstairs bar - It’s history and quirkiness. The bedroom needed a lick of paint. The dining room wasn’t very inviting.
- katja (7/5): Give it a try - I loved the furnishing and space of our room. Was awesome to have a fully stock bar and a nice selection of tea as well as an espresso coffee machine.
Liked the bar upstairs very much. A hidden gem The noisy air conditioner. Not enough light in bathroom to do make up.
- Deborah (9/5): The William Bennetts queen suite is one of the most lovely apartments in the city. - We can only comment on the William Bennetts queen suite with balcony, which was HUGE. It is on the top floor of the accomodation and has a massive terrace (calling it a balcony is an understatement) with uninterrupted views of the Harbour Bridge and across to Blues Point. The room (which was styled by award-winning Sydney interior designer, Sybilla Court) has a separate living room, kitchenette and a bathroom down a small hallway for added privacy. In response to some of the comments on this site: Size: The William B room is massive. We felt like we were in a massive apartment, not a room at a pub; House Rules: apart from staff being strict about the 3pm check-in, you really do feel as though you're living like a local and you can come and go as you please outside of hotel hours using a swipe card; Noise: We stayed on a Saturday night a week out from Mardi Gras and even though the hotel and rooftop bar were packed, we could NOT hear a thing from our room (or even the terrace); Amenities: The William B room has a portable air-con which was perfect (it was 34 degrees during our stay), there are places to hang towels and your clothes; the room has bottled organic shampoo, conditioner, body wash and hand soap, so no need to pack these ladies. We regularly stay at the Langham and Shangri-La and would have no hesitation booking the William B room again. Actually, we're looking forward to staying in winter and sitting on the terrace to watch the storms roll in over the harbour. The William B's terrace is shared with the room next door (we knew this when booking and took the risk anyway) but does have a full-length partition for some privacy. Thankfully, our neighbours were a lovely couple in their 60s who introduced themselves and were very quiet. Smoking is permitted on the balconies, so do bear that in mind when booking (worked for me and meant that I didn't have to stand outside at night time). Rooms are for two people only (and the hotel is strict about sneaky added guests) so it's not as if you need to worry about there being a party next door.
- ShonaC_11 (2/5): Dirty, Shabby, Trading on Past Glories - I was very disappointed, the accommodation is dirty, worn & shabby. I stayed in the Alice Muskett room, bathroom had not been cleaned for a while (I wore flipflops in the shower), furniture sticky, glasses in fridge had been used, torn curtains, skirtings chipped, bedhead stained, mattress wonky/uncomfortable, the place had a stale smell. The stair doors marked "Fire Door do not leave open" were chocked open. Certainly nothing like the crisp looking "boutique" accommodation described on their website. I had travelled a long way, was on my own & didn't want to go back down to the bar to complain and have to shout over the music as I did on checkin. I decided from the state of the room there would be little response, so left early the next day.
- Chloe (3/5): Not worth the money they charge to stay here. - The location was good. The bed was comfortable. The room hadn’t been properly cleaned when we arrived. While the location was good, it didn’t outweigh standard of facilities or lack there of. Nowhere to hang clothes, the curtains were torn, the power point was hanging off the wall. The service at the rooftop bar, Henry Deane, was terrible. No one came to serve us for some time so we approached the bar to order a drink only to be told to sit back down and someone would come and serve us. Another 30 mins and no one came so we left.
- Keenan (7/5): - View, price and own toilet/shower Room was a bit small
- Tamara (8/5): - In the heart of the city close to the rocks
- Glenda (4/5): -
- Susan (8/5): - Lovely location, roof top bar spectacular Room was average, bed position was very low to the ground
- Flemming (3/5): Don't bother. Find something else. - The room was on level 3, and it had a small balcony, so there was some view over the city, to Harbour Bridge, etc. Not too much noise from the city at night. The mattress and pillows were comfy, sheets were clean. Good ceiling fan. TV had Netfix included. Free WiFi. Five minute walk to Barangaroo Station. It was just an old, dirty pub! You have to go through the pub at ground level to get to the elevator, that took you to the various levels, but Saturday night the pub was full of drunk people. One man was leaning over against the left side panel of the elevator entrance, and he vomited twice all over it and on the floor in front of the elevator! Five seconds later someone was just coming down in the elevator, and I had to stop them from exiting and warning them of all the vomit on the floor! It was disgusting! There was a smell in the whole building, also in our room, of old body fluids (I guess), the room appeared semi-clean, but don't look under the bed! The fridge didn't have a freezer part. There was not enough cups/plates/cutlery for two people. There was no wardrobe, only a coat hanger stand with only a couple of coat hangers. We actually bought some extra. The door out to the balcony was falling apart and could not be locked. But the balcony was shared with the room next door, so they could actually walk straight into our room and rob us, if they so wanted! We let the staff know, but nothing was done about it, of course. The bathroom was very small, your knees would touch the shower screen when you sat on the toilet. There were no racks on the wall to put your towel, and the shelf over the sink was too tiny to contain our necessary toiletries. No drawers under the sink. Some black moldy silicone around the sink. No aircon in the room. The restaurant at the top was really weird! Super expensive. Strange table arrangement, which more resembled a coffee-table style, not comfortable for dining. We wanted to book a table for dinner the next day, which was very difficult for the staff to do on their computer system. Then they asked for our credit card details. Why? Because they would charge $200 if we didn't turn up! Really! No thanks! We had lunch on the spot instead, which was more like two entrees, with a little wine and a Coke. $119.
- Louise (9/5): - Great location, fantastic historic building, rooftop bar an absolute treat A/c was noisy. But actually not that bad.
- V4425GEandreah (2/5): Health risk? - Photos on both booking and tripadvisor sadly a complete mismatch with the reality here - not shabby chic, but simply shabby - aircon provisorium sporting a torn hose out the window, carpet and sofas with their own biotope - a bit too much of a health risk to stay for the night
- James (1/5): Ruined our 30th wedding anniversary. - Location and views of the bridge and harbour Cleaning of the room, lack of effort from the staff, no housekeeping provided for a three night stay, when their own in room manifest states that housekeeping will be provided daily.
Pillows and doona were stained and the furniture was damaged.
Advised the hotel of these issues after the first night and they were still not addressed.
- Marialena (9/5): Really enjoyed it and I'd recommend this place. - The vibe, the decor, the super friendly staff at the pub downstairs. The fact that there was a pub downstairs made the stay more fun. Also having access to free drinks due to the stay was super nice too. The view from the room was also really nice. The place didn't have the best noise insulation and we could hear people from the nearby rooms sometimes. Also it would be nice if the bar at the top floor stayed open longer into the night.
- Radim (8/5): - Poloha Potřebovalo by to údržbu všech zařízení.
- Eric (8/5): Quirky renovation of old pub with new rooftop additions and great location - Great location and quirky renovation of old pub Lack of A/C was a bit of a downer on a very hot night but the fan and some breeze from the open windows was good
- Gary (6/5): - Location. No cleaned properly, I found a panties on the floor.
