Guest Reviews
- Xianpeng (1/5): Not enjoyable. - I was not able to stay at the property because it was not secure. Everything.
- Philip (2/5): - Location Very old building, first impressions very bad, hoping room is not like entrance, dilapidated exterior and poorly managed untidy corridors with laundry bags just left piled up, everything in the room was old and tired, the bed quilt under the top cover was very old and dirty, the tvs were from the 90’s, channel selection was ridiculous, zero instructions for anything, door handles hanging off interior doors, overall for 250 pounds a night you expect a lot more, not a hotel just seemed like an air B&B with no love from the owner
- Pauline (2/5): I don't recommend this place - nothing I recently stayed at what was advertised as a 5-star hotel, paying 2000 HKD for one night, and I must say, the experience was far from expectations.
Misleading Imagery
The pictures posted on the booking site depicted a beautiful terrace complete with a jacuzzi and immaculate surroundings. Upon arrival, it became evident that these images were glaringly false. The reality was a far cry from what was advertised. No bath, no jacuzzi, no terrace.
Common Areas
The common areas of the hotel were messy and unkempt. For a supposed 5-star establishment, I expected cleanliness and attention to detail, but instead, I found a lack of maintenance that was quite off-putting.
Inefficient Staff
The staff was not only inefficient but also unavailable when needed. We sought assistance to change our room due to the noise levels, as the isolation was terrible, with the sounds of children running and playing echoing through the halls. However, we were informed that the staff left for the day at 6 PM, leaving us without assistance.
Room Conditions
In terms of the room itself, the shower was inconsistent, fluctuating between scalding hot and freezing cold, which made for an uncomfortable bathing experience.
Conclusion
Overall, I was deeply disappointed with my stay. This hotel did not live up to its 5-star claims, and I would not recommend it to anyone looking for a quality experience. It felt like a poor representation of hospitality, and I regretted spending my money here.

- Douglas (9/5): Awesome location - View and it’s massive . Not even water in fridge.
- Douglas (9/5): -
- Rosemary (7/5): -
- Chan (5/5): - 浴缸邊有蒼蠅屍體
竟然沒有refill 沖涼液,打去reception,竟然同我講要我俾錢購買。最後一輪交流後,先提供左一包旅行裝沖涼液
- TAN97hk (7/5): -
- Mei Yee (10/5): Chill n Relax - 酒店房寬敞,簡潔。 露台海景景觀怡人,舒暢。
- Raddish (9/5): room is large, comfortable. facing a wonderful scenery. - Stanley is quiet. The hotel provide a home atmosphere. The balcony facing the south sea view are wonderful.
- Christian (2/5): -
- Mind Your Brain (5/5): The place could be a gem but operated by a useless and incompetent staff. Shame. - The size of the room and the location. It is very quiet The staff is absolutely useless and has no concept of hospitality. Be careful, no toiletries despite advertised otherwise.
- Linjie (5/5): 不会再去第二次 - 房间设施陈旧,前台接待态度冷漠,解决问题能力差 与网上图片有差距
- Spencer (5/5): Overpriced, non-existent hotel service - only stay here if you have no other options. One of the worst hotels I have sta - Good location, large room It is not a hotel, it is a collection of apartments. Ridiculous price for low standard service.
- Adrian (9/5): Superb -
- Mickael (4/5): Bad service - Location is perfect I booked there since three weeks.
I made mistake in my booking for one night only and they kick me out. Zero solution nothing ! The guy at the reception is sleeping on his desk while the office door is open.
Absolutely no sense of being receptionist.
Cleaning : I left the apartment and when I came back I found 1 roasted chicken in the microwave which I forgot to throw away before my departure, and two days after it was still in microwave. I have picture of everything as I work in F&B as well.
Cleaning well if you don’t look under the table and the hairs inside the bed then cleaning is quite fine.
But honestly it’s super expensive for this quality of service !
I sent and email fews month ago to book there and I never got any answer
I understand that receptionist guy must be very busy 😂😂
- Richard (6/5): Pleasant - The balcony and the view. Close to Stanley Market and Stanley Plaza. Facilities are a bit run down. The feel of a well cared hotel is missing.
- Ingrid (8/5): Very good -
- Ashley (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mickael (3/5): Poor - AC was not working and no oft help me to fix it
No product was delivered even do toothpaste shower gel etc
For this price it’s unacceptable
- Matthew (3/5): Uncomfortable bed, poor housekeeping over shadows what would otherwise have been an ideal location - Fantastic location and the views from the balcony are amazing. The kitchen area was also well stocked The bed was like sleeping on solid rock. During my first night I woke to find bites all over my leg, whether that was from the fact that somebody had left the balcony doors open after I had gone out or from something else I am not sure. Finally, housekeeping was not daily.
- Iain (9/5): Superb -
- Austin (9/5): Relaxing, happy - Great Nothing
- Robert (3/5): Poor -
- Adrian (10/5): Great place to stay in Stanley - Nice room, good space and clean. Reception was not what I expected and the layout is strange but I loved it
- Justin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (7/5): Base camp for Stanley activities. - Location to activities in Stanley. Right on the Stanley promenade, so food choices were abundant. This didn't really feel like a hotel, but rather a group of flats leased out by different owners. As the only (?) "hotel" in town, the price to value ratio was very low.
- Tsun (7/5): Good - Location was excellent Little bit old furnitures
- Jamie (7/5): Nice stay with pets - Pet friendly and location Parts could be updated
- Turry (7/5): Good -
- Barry (7/5): Superb location. Some maintenance would make this apartment excellent. - Location and size. No tv / tv remote instructions. Bedroom tv has a loose connection on HDMI 1 & 2 (so probably the cable) causing static and loss of sound and or video. Can be fixed by moving the cable slightly. Corrosion on kitchen chairs, water damage to floors near windows and cabinet doors.
- Liam (7/5): In spite of the negatives mentioned, I still liked the location and layout of this apartment. - I love the view from this unit. Also the bathrooms were nice, the bed was comfortable and it was a nice apartment. It was August so extremely humid, which was palpable in the room. There was a feel of deterioration in the room too, old poor quality sofa, broken window treatment. Also one night a very loud fire alarm went off in our room. It was shocking.
- Simon (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jian (10/5): Exceptional -
- Susan (5/5): It was purely because of location and pet friendly that I would stay. - View and location are spectacular All furnishings, furniture and facilities are very old. Sofa has scratches , sofa pillows are torn, dining table cracked, coffee table put back together with tapes, showers not working properly... etc etc
- Erich (8/5): It could be a jewel but it is not - Ausgezeichnete Lage. Sehr geräumige Suite mit schönen Bädern. The property is not taken care of. This is a shame for the village.
- Ingrid (8/5): Very good -
- Stefanidis (10/5): I would definitely come again - Everything
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mei (7/5): Can give a try but once is fine. - It is big and feel like home. The shower in bath tub is not working and not very clean since we can see some floral patels left in the bath tub by the last customers.
And the floor is little bit old and the toilet is sometimes smelly and I am not sure it is because the hotel is near the sea or other reason. Putting a air refresher may help.
- C (6/5): Pleasant -
- Hiu (5/5): Passable -
- Melissa (3/5): Disappointing. Not worth the price. - The view is nice. Disappointing. I did not stay. The room, entry, and reception did not appear fresh. The place bore some resemblance to the photos, but was weathered and need of updates and additional cleaning.
- Shi (8/5): Very good -
- Tracy (9/5): Enjoyable and relaxing - Gorgeous sea view and spacious Only cooking utensils are provided, no salt and oil. So cannot cook
- Ye (8/5): We spend 6days in this hotel, it’s good and safe, very happiy experience - Location is good for us to take a rest in the crowd city. Especially in summer, hongkong is really hot and wet. It’s very relax to stay in front a beautiful sea. Furniture is a little bit old.
- Jean (1/5): pretty bad, I would not recommend anyone to stay there. except the location this hotel room is basically not acceptable - location not clean, table cloth not clean, a lot of moisture in different areas of the walls, bathroom floor has green algae, shower drain was blocked by hair, water overflowed in the whole bathroom including bedroom . no service in the evening for cleaning, we were told to wait till 9am in the morning!! finally the security guy agreed to sponge the water with towels . in the morning, the toilet didn’t flashed, there was no water! very poor response from the management!
- Anonymous (8/5): Very good -
- I (7/5): Hotel staff confirmed we can check in at 2:30pm in email but receptionist is not there until 3pm. Very unhappy about thi - The space, view, bathtub, shower. The balcony door and curtain are broken.
- L. (7/5): Staycatiom for location - Location Lack of amenities
- Leung (7/5): Good - Location is great , big balcony with seaview Most of the furniture and appliance are not in a good shape , I was here two years ago, everything was super great that time , I hope the hotel will keep its quality as it is such a beautiful location with good room layout
- papakyoto (8/5): Good for dogcation - We took our dog here for staycation at the suite. The toilet and bathtub was new, but the rest of the room was aged. There is a kitchenette too. Hotel reception is on 2/F and it looks really messy, I would encourage the hotel to clear up the area as it does not provide a good first impression to guests.
- jerrystravels_ (10/5): Breathtaking Views - Stay in the 4th floor suite with the terrace instead of balcony. Incredibly spacious suite taking up the whole floor. There was unobstructed Stanley beach and sea view across the entire suite. There was a fully functioning and equipped kitchen for us to cook dinner and breakfast. The bathroom was incredibly well designed and captures natural light perfectly. The best part would be the terrace looking out at the vast sea view with tables and sofas to eat or relax day or night. Would highly recommend getting the terrace suite. This isn't really a hotel and more like a airbnb situation so there's no luxury hotel service (which is where its priced around.) However, the limited number of staff are incredibly friendly, helpful and flexible. They kindly arranged for the jacuzzi on the rooftop for us even though we were rather late on arrival. The pricing can be a bit on the steep side considering its not really a hotel but the terrace and the views are certainly make it worth the price. You sometimes feel like you're in the south of france or in a European beachside town on the terrace. Great choice if you're in the area or just want to get away from the busy metropolitan scene and chill by the beach.
- Emilyilycheng (2/5): The worst Christmas staycation ever in HK - We booked this room a month ago, we expect to celebrate my birthday at here on 26 Dec 2020, we paid around $2100 from booking.com, we saw the pictures show with bathtub and terrace with large size of all rooms so that’s why we decide stay here, also they said they welcome to pet to stay but haven’t mention they will not provide any pet accessories for your dog. When we arrive, we stay at 3rd floor, the room is very old and dirty, also no bathtub and terrace. Their facilities are very old, I dnt think we are staying a hotel? Mainly the television is not working, they keep fixing but still not working to see TVB? I am very disappointed as we ask about the differences between the truth and at the website with the staff, he said it’s only for demonstration. We decide go back home and won’t stay at this hotel tonight. I am strongly recommend not stay at this hotel with your dog and yours vacation.
- TheOExpress (8/5): Great rooms and views. - Stayed here in one of two rooms a large group of us rented out for a birthday party and I was very impressed: our room was huge and lovely. I would normally have taken another star off for the high price but it’s the only option round here so I think it’s fair when compared to other HK hotels.
- natashaj555 (10/5): Stunning place! - We did a girls weekend at this hotel and it was everything we had hoped for. The room is large and spacious with a living room area, fully equipped kitchen and 2 toilets/showers. We were on the 8th floor and it's one suite per floor which was great and there is also a stunning bathtub with a gorgeous view! The bed is huge and very comfortable, and we were able to add in two beds too free of charge. The hotel were also able to provide us with allergy-specific duvet and pillow which was so kind! We were celebrating a birthday so they decorated the room for us which was a lovely touch. The views are absolutely stunning and the bi-folding doors are absolute heaven! The location is great, right on the main strip, close to all the restaurants in Stanley, near convenience shops and the beach and market are a 5 minute walk. There is also a jacuzzi on the rooftop that we had booked; it's a great size and the views are amazing but unfortunately the jets were working (my only complaint). The staff, especially Simon, were so accommodating and responsive; we really had the most lovely weekend. THANK YOU!
- eunhee1997 (10/5): Best Hotel in Hong Kong with Sea View - I would stay here forever.
When you looking for hotels to stay in HongKong, try to find the one with ocean view terrace or bathub with ocean view, you can soak in the tub while watching ocean outside.
The room is spacious with amazing sea view. Had a very comfortable and enjoyable night at Stanley Oriental Hotel Hong Kong ❤️
- mrbretm (10/5): Great hotel, great location and what brilliant service by Betty the manager - We stayed in room 701 over Easter weekend. The room was very large (1200 sq/ft with balcony), modern, well appointed and super comfortable for family of four. The location could not have been better - right on the promenade and 150 meters from the Market, with restaurants literally outside the hotel entrance. We loved, loved the room! Here's the best part of our stay - Betty the manager of the hotel. Betty, oh what can i say? Without your diligence, hospitality, kindness, selfless service our stay would not have been quite as enjoyable as it was. Betty went so far out of her way to make every request (many of them) a reality. She allowed super late checkout on Sunday night, made many phone calls for us to local taxis and establishments, offered superb location knowledge on things to do, go see and food. Betty is a gem of a dynamo of energy and will absolutely ensure that your stay is top-notch, smooth and unbelievably enjoyable. Thank you so much for everything during our stay. Betty you are the best ever!!
- 309scottt (8/5): Great view - I real nice retreat. Booked this place as there really is such a shortage of hotels in the Stanley area. And that is the important thing to remember.it is not a hotel. It is directly above pizza express ( where u get 20-30%discount as a resident) . It is very peaceful and you get absolutely no noise from the restaurant below. The rooms are clean and the shower is great. I do like a strong shower. It’s not 5 star but it certainly done us for a 2 night break away from the fast pace of HK. We didn’t use the kitchen so can’t comment on that but it really is ideally situated with breath taking views and Stanley really is a lovely little town. With very easy bus routes nearby to get you to other bays etc.
- 584AlexF584 (8/5): Staying in Stanley or Hong Kong Southside? - We were visiting family in Stanley and as there are no other hotels in the area to stay in, there is not a lot of choice. SOH is actually serviced apartments, which means the room also has a kitchenette, sitting area as well as a bedroom and bathroom. We stayed on the third floor, so had one of the smaller apartments, which is more than ample space for 2 people.
The bedroom had a good sized double bed, with lots of wardrobe space, not so many electric sockets though. The bathroom had a shower with great water pressure (always a plus in my book).
The kitchenette had a fridge, washer/dryer microwave and hot plate so you could cook for yourself if you wanted to (the local supermarket is a 5 minute walk away in the Stanley Plaza). However there are some great restaurants in Stanley, so you can also eat all meals out, pretty reasonably priced as well for Hong Kong.
Overall a great facility and we will definitely stay again. We stayed for 2 nights, but you can book for a week or even month, so great for leisure but would also work for business trips too.
- 455MattJ (6/5): A few weak spots - We had a nice time at the SOH, and will likely return—however there were a few notable weak spots. Most notably the balcony door did not lock! This was a real safety issue on the 8th floor, given that we have three small children. We reported it to management and they strapped it shut using plastic tape. My two year old son took three minutes to remove it and open the door! The kitchen was under-resourced with cutlery and crockery, many lights either did not work or were unreliable — and the tv just didn’t work. Still it is a great location and a nice interior space.
- 508Christine508 (8/5): A wonderful seaside retreat from high rise Hong Kong. - We as a family have used this hotel over a period of ten years. It’s location is central to the lovely vibrant Stanley right on the waterfront with easy to access to other parts of Hong Kong and shops, cafes, atm, transport and services and the well known Stanley Market. Stanley is a refuge from the busy vibrant central Hong Kong, with lovely beaches and green open spaces and doesn’t feel like high rise Hong Kong. It is difficult to find somewhere to stay in Stanley therefore this hotel is fairly unique however over the years we feel it has become complacent and needs improve some improvements.
The apartment doesn’t provide a lot of utensils and basic necessities and lacks a welcome for a visitor but it is a functional space.
It is clean and has incredible sea views over Stanley waterfront and Blake Pier and Murray House.
The apartments are very spacious but need a little more attention to details for example the wallpaper needed replacing and lacks style and comfort.
Their policy for demanding $50 for a loss of room key and a deposit of 10% for short term stays seems a little unnecessary. We understand this may be for security reasons but it could be managed in a better way.
The staff are efficient and in particular Tony, a long term member of staff, makes everyone feel welcome and special adding character and kindness to this rather functional hotel.
- Felixehess (8/5): Two days southside - One of the very few places to stay on the south side. As we developed quite a strong bonding to this region - we used to live in redhill for 2 years - stanley oriental with its sea side view on stanley bay, its large apartment rooms, modern, and clean is an excellent choice for us when coming back and visiting friends on the south side. Could also recommend to expat families when coming to hk for house hunting instead of staying in the city. To mention: Run as an apart hotel / no own facilities but lots of restaurant just at the sea front (for breakfast/lunch/dinner). Further charge for extra bed which you need if staying with children.
For us All in always good to come back!
- eapbwebb (8/5): Fantastic Position - It is invigorating to wake up each morning to visions of a magnificent view over a sparking bay, along with a few fishing boats adding interest & dotting the ocean.
This property is probably more akin to a Serviced Apartment, rather than the perceived opinion of a Hotel, but either way, we always enjoy our stay there.
It is extremely difficult to find similar places ...i.e.. having a fantastic view coupled with the availability of numerous restaurants & super markets just outside their door.
The apartment is adequately equipped with a small but useful kitchenette, two very modern bathrooms,]including all bathroom necessities & linen, plus a huge stand alone tub...TV, Phone etc.
This, coupled with a delightful & obliging "on site" staff, always results in our experiencing a relaxing & interesting holiday.
- 144DiC (6/5): Rental serviced apartment, not a Hotel. - Fabulous place to build a true 5 star hotel. I am told by locals that there are no other rental apartments or hotels in the area. We had problems when we arrived as we were on the 6th floor and the lift was out of order. It was a booking for 3 adults but was set up for 2 only——no third bed, the very limited amount of crockery and cutlery was for 2 only. This finally sorted by staff who tried to be helpful including Mr.Tony who appears to manage the building. The roll-out bed is impossibly hard so we borrowed a blow-up bed, much better! The TV units in bedroom and lounge are very complicated to use, Mr.Tony set on CNN and we left it there. The building and apartments are in need of maintenance but with no other accommodation around what can you do. Washing machine again complicated to use, while it is also a dryer if a drying rack was in the room it would not be needed. Iron supplied but no ironing board?
Stanley is a fabulous location, the air pretty clean, the outlook wonderful, markets fun. Very quite during the week and extremely busy on weekends. Plenty of small restaurants under the building and along the waterfront, supermarkets close by. While the apartment has a microwave and a small 2 burner electric stove there is only one frypan and a very large saucepan, not really suitable for cooking so eat out. Refrigerator in kitchenette so breakfast can be made in apartment.
Do not think of this as a hotel, it is apartment rental! Basic, kept clean with daily service and towel change, not bed linen after 5 days here so far. Recommend as long as you are not looking for 5 star accommodation.
- Emilia616 (2/5): Not worth for this price , BAD - I was staying there for 7 days , it cost me HKD 3600 per night without any service , I can stay way better hotel in this price ! No Servise , bed sheets only change once a week ! Management officer there is a woman talk so bad on the phone , seems i own them a lot of money ! They want to get $3600 deposit each day for nothing because there is no restaurant or min bar in the room , there is no extra change . Although for the five star world class resort they will only get 30% deposit according the room price . Dear all the traveler Don't stay in this hotel.
- lou_schreurs (10/5): Nice hotel at Stanley bay, price wise on high end of the spectrum - Its a nice hotel perfectly up to standards with everything you need, Great view over the bay.
Excellent beds, well equipped bathroom and the room we had (201) also had full kitchen, That we didn't use since there are lots of great places for dinner.
On the cost side, its a bit high, but our stay was great.
- LauraZ942 (10/5): Excellent hotel in Stanley - This is an excellent choice if you need to be in the Stanley area. The hotel is directly above the Pizza Express overlooking Stanley Bay. We had a basketball tournament at the Hong Kong International School and found the location to be perfect for getting to the school and American Club quickly. The room was clean, spacious and comfortable and was serviced daily. There was a large bedroom with a huge bathroom, a living area, small well-equipped kitchen area and a second bathroom. We were 4 in the room which was a bit cramped. We were provided with 2 roll away beds for our 2 teenagers. However, the beds were extremely hard and very short. One child took the sofa which was much more comfortable. The other child endured the bed but we asked for extra bedding to put under the bottom sheet and to provide some padding. There is a grocery store in Stanley Plaza just a few steps a way. There are also many good restaurants in the area. It seems from other reviews that some have had problems with the management but we found them to be friendly and helpful.
- MRonson (10/5): Warm, friendly, efficient staff and great location are what you will find at Stanley Oriental Hotel - Rise up early and go for a walk outside the pier. At around seven you will see fisherman bringing their haul for the day and what a treat to have freshly caught fish for lunch or dinner in your room!!
- floridakat (10/5): My yearly visit! - I have always enjoyed staying with you at the S.O. I have been visiting there since we moved from Hong Kong, and I went back to organize my daughter's wedding seven years ago. My husband and I always enjoyed your hospitality, clean environment, beautiful acoomodations and magnificent view and location. Now, when I return by myself to visit my daughter and her family yearly....and to visit friends, my Church in Stanley and many of the merchants we have known over the years, I am greatly and warmly received! The restaurants and Clubs are all around....walks to take, ferry trips available...wonderful! I look forward to returning this FEBRUARY. Katie McDonald
