Guest Reviews
- Ianforrester1983 (8/5): Quiet paradise - We had a lovely stay at Escape at Nonsuch Bay. The room was excellent. Decent size and with a big outdoor area with pool. Meal selcetion was limited but of a good standard. We knew this before we arrived and we enjoyed all the food. The few reasons I didn't give it 5 were, no food at beach bar. Limited snacks throughout the day. No reusesable cups for water, instead we were given a plastic bottle in room to refil. Maybe supply a refil cup to use for water. Also no drinks in the minibar. Overall we enjoyed our stay.
- bucks17 (10/5): Wonderful Hotel & Vacation - We had a wonderful experience at Escape at Nonsuch Bay. We wanted an all-inclusive experience and this was better than any we've had before. All meals are presented with a QR code each morning. Breakfast is the same fare with a special each day. Lunch and dinner have two appetizers and usually 3 entrees each. There was also a beach bbq (not on the beach) that was great. The food was excellent! The wine selection was also excellent which is very important to me. There are some wines you can have with meals that are part of the package and others that you have to buy (like more expensive bottles). We didn't need to buy any as the ones included were all fantastic.
The room is modern and well appointed. All rooms have their own plunge pool which is fun. We usually spent the morning at the common pool area then afternoon at our plunge pool. The common pool area is small, but very nice.
The resort overall is quiet, which we wanted. There were 2 nights of relaxing live music during dinner which was nice. If you're looking for a hotel that has nightly events/shows, etc. this is NOT your place. This is the place to relax with a partner or friend and enjoy the peace & quiet.
It is on a bay so you can either walk to their beach property nearby or taxi to nearby beaches.
We did the beach picnic experience and the reggae rum sunset tour experience. Both were excellent. Biggo (sp?) did a great job as our guide on both.
The staff were all very friendly and helpful. We'd especially like to give a shout out to- Randy, Micah, Shanea, Charles and most of all MAXINE, who was the absolute best! She always had a huge smile on her face and we enjoyed chatting with her at meals.
The ONLY drawback we felt about this resort is the bathroom door in the room. I read other travelers post the same. There is a frosted glass door (no lock) with a gap between the top of the door and the ceiling about 1.5 ft high. It restricts privacy. The hotel may want to consider full doors or putting in something to fill the gap at the top.
Otherwise, we loved this resort and would most certainly return. Antigua is absolutely gorgeous!
- laurenpE6422XW (10/5): Incredible Stay in Antigua - We had an amazing stay at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay. Originally we booked a hotel closer to St. Johns, but after reading reviews about it, we decided to switch and are so glad we did! The rooms are beautiful and having your own plunge pool means you can hang out in your room to swim/tan or head down to the main pool, which is small but perfect size. I especially enjoyed reading in the loungers in the pool. Overall it's a quiet resort, which is what we were looking for. We didn't need activities or group entertainment like some places offer. This was a little piece of heaven. On 2 nights there was live music at dinner, but very classy, quiet like you'd find at a piano bar. After having been on other all-inclusive vacations, we were particularly impressed by the food. Each day you scan a QR code to see what the meal options are for the day. Breakfast is standard fare with a special each day. Lunch and Dinner each have 2 appetizer options and 2-3 entree options. There's usually 2-4 dessert options. The wine options were also fantastic, which is important for me as I love good wine! The rooms are beautiful and well appointed. If you struggle to walk, you may want to take into account that there's a little walk to/from the main lobby/pool/dining area. Not far, but may be hard for persons with mobility issues.
We booked the sunset rum cruise and the beach picnic (separate things) and Biggo (sp?) our boat driver was great. Both excursions were awesome. We also got massages which were great.
The staff were great. We would especially like to give a shout out to Randy, Micah, Shanea, Charles, Enrique and most of all MAXINE! She is the absolute best. She greets everyone with a big smile and is super helpful.
Overall, we loved our trip here and would definitely go back. Antigua is beautiful.
(2 things to note- the hotel is (as is in the name) on a bay, so you are not on the ocean. But you can get to the ocean on an excursion or in a taxi. It's not far. The other small thing is the bathroom door. We read about this in other reviews. It doesn't provide the most privacy. If management were to consider it, we'd suggest that they put in doors that go all the way up to the ceiling or something to cover up that empty space between the door and ceiling.)
- 683shaquilleg (8/5): Truly an escape - It was a wonderful experience
Staff was great
Must try the offshore picnic. Waw
Oh and the beach bar and staff, he was awesome.
- Tourist05947712794 (10/5): Quiet, beautiful, relaxing vacation spot. - Spent a week here and had such an amazing time. The staff were truly wonderful, especially Keirah and Randy at the front desk who were so helpful with booking excursions and taxis.
The resort is on the quieter side of the island, a bit removed from the main city, so renting a car might be something to consider. We did visit St. John’s, which was nice and quiet, but just a heads up that the museum is only open when cruise ships are docked. Our taxi drivers were all fantastic and pointed things out along the way, and the art galleries in the city are definitely worth a visit.
The rooms are beautiful and the plunge pools are a lifesaver in the heat. My only small complaint was the open bathroom layout, which doesn’t offer much privacy.
The food was consistently great and there was always something to enjoy, even as a slightly picky eater. The Caribbean BBQ night was a standout. The bar is also a fun spot with rotating specials and really good rum punch, just expect a few birds since it’s open air.
I’d definitely recommend the sunset cruise, snorkeling, and taking the kayaks out on the bay. Overall, it was such a lovely, peaceful trip and I’d absolutely recommend it to couples looking for a quiet getaway.
- H4374UFalext (10/5): The romantic island getaway of your dreams - AMAZING! My wife and I were just looking for a week long vacation somewhere in central America or the Caribbean, and found Escape at Nonsuch through Google. We found a good deal and chose the Deluxe package. They seem to often run sizable discounts, but even at standard rates, you can't spend your money better.
It was my first time in the Caribbean, and my wife has been to the Bahamas before. Let me say it exceeded all expectations for us. Incredibly romantic, beautiful views, comfortable room, delicious food, and incredibly nice, attentive staff. Special shoutouts to Keirah and Randy at the front desk, and Enrique behind the bar.
Escape at Nonsuch fits a specific type of island retreat in my eyes. It's off the beaten path, fairly secluded, and thusly feels very intimate. This is an ideal spot for couples celebrating a special occasion or just looking to escape (jo pun intended!). You won't find loud obnoxious party-goers or kids, loud music or anything of the like. You get quiet isolation, a beautiful bay view, a private pool, and 3 curated meals a day. There are plenty of excursions to pick from in house offered by the resort, and those are just pluses. We spent a good deal of time just enjoying one another's company in our room, by the poolside, or enjoying drinks at the bar. They have daily drink specials and occasionally dinner specials that never fell short of spectacular.
The resort is comprised of multiple cottages with 4 rooms each, all beautifully decorated with a cute surprise when we first walked in. Immediately, the tone was set. The Escape at Nonsuch is so good at curating a romantic atmosphere for a couple in love, young and old. Private dinners, cruises, free to use kayaks, an outdoor tub next to your personal plunge pool, the list goes on. Room service comes every other day, they fog the mosquitoes out as best they can, you won't find any litter or refuse lining the streets or walkways, it really is a slice of paradise.
- sammaraj2026 (10/5): Amazing - This resort was amazing , the service was great and the staff was very nice and attentive. I definitely recommend to others.
- W3353RKmarcj (10/5): Exceeded our Expectations! - Exceeded our expectations!
We received and email with the pre arrival check-in information so when we did arrive everything was ready for us which was a simple but elegant touch, no hanging around, no delays - perfect start.
Both Kierah and Randy made us feel super welcome and couldn't help enough with getting us settled in. The rooms are stunning, the layout is spacious and the views are second to none! We really were blown away by the whole place.
Although it's an all inclusive, the restaurant runs a set menu which is actually a nice change, no need to que up among indecisive people - the food was delicious, couple of options each sitting.
We found a gem of a hotel, out the way of the city surrounded by beautiful views and absolutely worth revisiting for us.
- nicolag601 (8/5): Fab staff in fab surroundings - As we had already checked in online we were given our keys and made a way to our room. The room was beautiful and everything we were expecting.
The room had everything we needed and more.
The staff are amazing. Always smiling, always happy to help, always just genuinely nice.
Food and drinks were great. Even though there was no entertainment we had some great nights talking to the other guest.
Yes there was seaweed and it smelt bad.

- Johanna (10/5): 10/10 - Everything 10/10
- Y4937BUtims (10/5): Relax in the Sun - Beautiful resort with really friendly and helpful staff. Perfect for a quiet getaway and also plenty more to do locally. The short trip to Green Island was gorgeous.
- Gonzodv4 (10/5): Unique all inclusive for adults - Unique all inclusive for adults
Having been on many all inclusive sites around the world we all have expectations.
Now this is where the escape is unique but in a good way
If you are expecting a crazy amount of buffet style food then this is not for you,but if you want high end quality but limited selection food then this is a winner. As the whole idea of the Escape is about being chilled and relaxed it might not suite everyone but for us it was idyllic.
All of the team are passionate about the site and are genuine
Nothing is too much trouble, and you will relax that's for sure
The island is easy to drive around so renting a car is a must from reception but make sure it's an SUV at least as there are pot holes all over.
We met some truly wonderful people and will be back
Thanks to all of the team
- clairesO1967LJ (10/5): Superb stay, stunning sunsets ! - Our stay at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay was nothing short of extraordinary—a true Caribbean escape in every sense of the word.
From the moment we arrived, we were struck by the sheer beauty of the setting. Nestled on a secluded bay on Antigua’s coastline, the resort feels blissfully removed from the world, surrounded by lush greenery. It’s the kind of place where time slows down, and relaxation becomes effortless.
The accommodation was stunning—spacious, stylish, and thoughtfully designed to blend luxury with a laid-back island feel. Waking up to beautiful bay views each morning was a highlight in itself, and the private plunge pool added an extra touch of indulgence that made our stay feel truly special.
What really sets this place apart, though, is the atmosphere. As an adults-only resort, it offers a sense of calm and tranquility that’s hard to find elsewhere. Whether we were lounging by the pool, strolling or enjoying a cocktail as the sun set over the bay, everything felt peaceful and unhurried.
The food and service were equally impressive. Every meal was fresh, flavourful, and beautifully presented, with a great variety that kept things exciting throughout our stay. The staff were warm, attentive, and genuinely welcoming—always going the extra mile to make sure we were comfortable without ever being intrusive.
In short, this was one of the most relaxing and memorable holidays we’ve had for a long time. The Escape at Nonsuch Bay delivers exactly what you hope for in a Caribbean getaway: stunning scenery, exceptional comfort, and a peaceful atmosphere that leaves you completely recharged.
Please dont be put off by the beach as there are so many others to visit 😃
We were able to talk to lots of people of all nationalities as it is such a small hotel it is hard not to...special shout out to Meg and Alex and there nightly crossword get together ...getting married in August so all the very best to you and may you have a long and happy life together ❤️
- I5800MAdawnp (6/5): If you’re after a quiet location….. - The Escape is definitely good value for money. It is however important to know the hotel is in a beautiful bay, and perfect for those seeking a peaceful holiday. It is in a very remote part of the island and car hire is a must for those who like to explore the island and visit the beautiful beaches. The rooms are lovely especially the balconies, the staff are all polite and friendly. The food has been very good. I stayed here two years ago and my only gripes now are the rooms are only cleaned every other day which I think is a poor service. Water is never replenished in the room which again I have never experienced in any hotel I have stayed at. Also we had to book ourselves in on line when we arrived which after travelling for a day to get here seemed unhelpful. This time round we were not shown to our room and we had to take our cases ourselves to our room. There is no one on reception in the evening and I wonder what would happen in an emergency. I feel there have been a few cutbacks which hasn’t spoiled our stay, but maybe a few tweaks would lead to better reviews. The hotel is very small but you do get to know other guests which has been nice. As I said I think you get what you pay for, but overall very good value for money.
- J6892IUbenjaminc (10/5): Fantastic - Room was stunning. Extras were well worth the extra price
- Claricejones1803 (10/5): Great "Escape" for relaxing holiday, but still able to enjoy the best of Antigua - We loved our stay at The Escape, it was very relaxing, quiet and the perfect getaway from a busy life. The Escape is set out of the way, it is not near main tourist attractions or shops, but this does not dilute the experience you have. Staff went above and beyond throughout our stay to make sure we enjoyed ourself, particularly Kierah, Enrique, Hannah and Maxine. We holidayed for our first wedding anniversary and a lovely "Happy Anniversary" was laid out on our bed for our arrival which made it special. We saw other guests also enjoy celebrations where their dinner table was decorated too.
We opted for the bay view room, it was worth the extra money for the view, an additional bonus is it was more private too. The rooms are spacious, and fit for purpose. There are amenities, a small fridge, iron and ironing board, hair dryer and toiletries. The outside space was brilliant and got great afternoon sun. The pool was lovely, the rooms were quiet too. The beds were soft and apart from some noisy birds, we slept excellently! The rooms were clean and neat, housekeeping could be easily contacted if needed outside of allotted cleaning days. The outside space could be dusty, but this is to be expected on a bay. Again, staff were more than happy to come and clean the area/the pool when needed.
The inclusive drinks were very good (and strong!), there were optional extras such as bubbly, which we didn't ask for. There were more than enough drinks inclusive and the cocktails were great with different specials each day. There is breakfast, lunch and dinner, with snacks at mid afternoon. You do have to book a timeslot for lunch and dinner though often you could arrive slightly early/late dependent on how busy they were. The food was lovely, we really enjoyed the Wednesday night BBQ. There is a different menu every day, which is then repeated each week. We felt there was enough variety and it was always full of flavour. I have severe allergies, all of the staff were attentive to my needs and ensured my food was safe to eat and made for me. They were very understanding when I asked further about the food if I was unsure. They often remembered my name and my allergies, without prompt which felt personable.
We felt the holiday was more than worth the price we paid. We would absolutely love to return again. The resort is very quiet, it is very much an "escape", the music when played is low and usually quite relaxed. Guests who tried to play their own music loudly were asked to turn it down or off. This was not a common occurrence as everyone seemed to want the same thing out of the holiday when we were there. There are games available to play and there is a little book library to borrow from too. The sunset views are absolutely stunning and it is worth booking for those alone!
We did do days out, we visited the highly recommended Shirley Heights and loved it, The Escape arranged a taxi for us along with other guests to share the cost. The BBQ and sunset were brilliant. We did the Stingray Safari excursion, during which we went to Stingray City, Devils Bridge and Betty's Hope were food was provided. Each were great to visit and our guide was very knowledgeable. We also visited Pigs in Paradise, which was a fun day out and something different to do. The Escape booked all of these for us and liaised with the tour companies.
The pool in the room was brilliant, and was the perfect touch for wanting time alone. The main pool had plenty of sun beds, including some loungers in the pool to relax in, it helps that it was by the bar and Charles was always quick to top up your drink! There is a beach either a short boat ride, or 10min walk. The walk was steep but worth it. The beach is small, private and quiet, there is a bar to still get drinks and snacks, as part of the inclusive.
- Fightclub007 (10/5): Mr & Mrs Wills honeymoon - Where to begin...what a fantastic resort! We stayed at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay for our honeymoon and it was absolutely incredible. The staff are amazing, the location is fantastic and it's actually is an idyllic paradise.
This is an isolated and private resort, you can arrange private picnics and snorkeling through reception, which I highly recommend but there's not shop for a good 30mins at least in a taxi. Taxis are expensive so it probably works out cheaper to rent a car if you wish to do so. But If you are looking for a relaxing and beautiful getaway then this is definitely the place to go. We cannot thank the staff enough for how wonderful they have been to us during our honeymoon.
- nigeltM4954RM (8/5): Peace and quiet at Nonsuch Bay - Beautiful and wonderfully quiet location. The staff are so kind and nothing is too much trouble - Agatha, Maxine and Kiandra get special mention along with ever helpful Randy.
Our room was spacious with a view of the bay and beyond.
Food was good with table service and a menu that changed daily.
We had a great holiday at Nonsuch Bay.
- N8287SQsamanthat (10/5): Please stay if your looking for relaxation - 1st things 1st the ambiance was BEAUTIFUL!! The staff there are amazing & super sweet!!! I went with my husband to celebrate birthday & it was just SO RELAXING!!!! If you’re looking to escape the noise & just have a relaxing vacation please stay here. The front desk staff were so kind & welcoming! They also upgraded my room free of charge for my birthday which was SUPER nice of them!! They make sure that your taxis are booked & you travel tomorrow & from your destination safely! I will Say that the food could’ve been a little bit better, but all in all the experience was amazing!
- janetjH2588ZK (10/5): Top Marks for The Escspe - We spent two wonderful weeks at The Escape, Antigua and would like to thank ALL staff for their attentiveness, kindness and helpfulness. Nothing was ever too much trouble and there was always a warm greeting waiting for you. There is nothing we would have changed and would not hesitate to visit again. Thank you everybody at The Escape!
- D3689RQbrandons (10/5): Very Relaxing Stay - Such a beautiful resort for relaxing and escaping reality for a bit. Time feels like it went by slow in the best way possible while we were here. The staff was so accommodating and sweet, it felt like I was with family. I wish I had more than 4 days here!
- V898BVmarlenew (10/5): Awesome place to getaway to - Five star experience at arrival we were greeted by Kiara and she was able to book places of interest for us. Randy was also so helpful. The resort has everything spa services shuttles to locations romantic breakfast in your suite. The views are spectacular. Our servers Maxine Agatha and Nirvana were wonderful great. We will go back.
- F4594HGroberts (10/5): Amazing time and service. - We went for our 25th wedding anniversary had an amazing time in this stunning location the staff are so kind . We did turtle trip and private picking which was great
- Kevin (7/5): Clean hotel with good vibe - Modern clean rooms through shower not particularly powerful jets.
Layout lent itself to allow good interaction with other holiday Akers. Location felt like needed a car. Beach not as accessible as on Caribbean side.
Staff very willing but at times could’ve took more initiative
- Gareth (9/5): -
- Paul (7/5): Great rooms but overall experience spoilt by restaurant and lack of adequate poolside facilities. - Great rooms
Great location Food very variable often poor
Not enough sun loungers/bar tables
No easily accessible beach
Dirty pool with no outdoor shower
- David (9/5): It was short but so amazing. I will definitely come again!! - I really liked the view
- patrickclancy1 (8/5): Very private, relaxing, quiet, just very small - Notes: Couple traveling for vacation with a 4-night stay.
Summary: If you're looking for a quiet, relaxing stay away from it all - this is your place. Note that this comes with some downsides, but overall, a positive experience. The staff did an amazing job with the New Year's Party we were around for.
Pros: Very quiet, you won't run into people everywhere, minimal vehicle traffic, and the room itself is amazing with the individual plunge pool and great view. WiFi was free and was reasonably fast. Meals were very good (see note about selections)
Cons: Some of the all-inclusive features you may find lacking, with staff overlapping the bar, restaurant and other duties. Limited housekeeping
Recommendations:
1. Grab towels when you can (the beach towels go quickly)
2. Make a reservation for the boat over to the beach (unless you want to walk up a steep hill)
3. Try out the kayaks, but don't go into the bay too far (wastewater runoff, disgusting)
4. Bring bug spray
5. Bring snorkel gear if you have it...there are some great fish in the beach area
Warnings:
1. The meals were all very good, but there isn't a lot of food offered, and the menu is limited with two items for lunch and dinner.
2. Housekeeping is only done every other day...making your own bed isn't fun on vacation
3. The front desk staff isn't always around, so catch them when you can
4. There is nothing anywhere close to the resort, so if you want snacks or other food etc. best to bring it
5. When leaving Antigua, get to the airport early...it was an absolute $hit show...

- lyndae254 (10/5): A week in December for 5 at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay - Five of us, friends and family, have spent the week before Christmas at The Escape and it has ticked every box. We have spent our time relaxing in our spacious rooms with lovely views, in our private, well designed, 1.5m plunge pools watching the humming birds and listening to the tree frogs. We have lounged by the pool looking out onto the bay, swam in the pool, had numerous cocktails at the bar, eaten from the daily changing menu, taken the 3min complementary board round the headland to the beach, and through all of this we have been looked after by friendly, courteous and professional staff who have met our every request.
- Excursion472479 (10/5): OUR REVIEW OF ESCAPE AT NONSUCH BAY - OUR REVIEW OF ESCAPE AT NONSUCH BAY
Just want to note, this review was written by both me & my husband so parts are done by him and parts are done by me
Also apologies to the staff if we spelt any names wrong! Also, so sorry Escape for the LONG OVER DUE REVIEW….. But here it is!!
Escape at NonSuch Bay…. Where do I even start? Me & my husband stayed here for 1 week end of February 2025 and HIGHLY recommend! Though 1 week is not enough to enjoy this fantastic island! When we return, we definitely want to do 10 days - 2 weeks. And make sure to leave the property more and rent a car to explore the island! More on that later
It’s maybe important to note that Escape at Nonsuch Bay is “off the beaten path” a little. It’s 40 mins from the airport, tucked away and more secluded from other resorts and hotels which we love. Not for everyone we know, but perfect for us! And if you’ve never tried out this type of property before, please do.
First impressions of the resort are really beautiful. The grounds and landscaping are so pretty. Take the time to really look around and appreciate the flora and fauna on the grounds. Stunning, unique plants, and there’s humming birds everywhere which we loved. The lobby has a driftwood check-in counter with an open air view of the bay and mountains that honesty I could just stare at all day! Escape also has the most warm and welcoming staff.
Now, I don’t think everyone would appreciate this property unfortunately, as it’s not directly on the beach (beautiful beach - Marassa Cove Beach is just a 10 min walk OR super short 3 min complimentary hotel shuttle away) though the bay views from the Escape property are just gorgeous! And taking the short walk over to the beach is honestly really lovely. The exercise is nice and if you find it too much or too hot, just take the complimentary shuttle so PLEASE give this property a chance! You will not regret it!
Breezes restaurant off the beach has a really cute Caribbean vibe and Sundays they do a poolside party over looking the Caribbean Sea (not included in your stay) but so fun! There’s clean bathrooms that are decorated really cute as well, with a beach bar with swings to use as Escape guests. Beach loungers are complimentary as well. There aren’t any beach umbrellas but there’s plenty of palm trees to provide shade if needed.
Now for the overall experience staying at this resort! From booking to check out the customer service was above and beyond anything we have experienced. Me and my wife both come from restaurant and event planning backgrounds prior to our current careers, and we can say confidently that the staffs attention to detail and care for their guests is top notch. Communication prior to arrival with Dianna was excellent as we confirmed transportation arrangements, food allergies (my wife has many rare food allergies….), car rentals, and excursion recommendations. Gina and Keriah at reception were very attentive and answered any questions or concerns that we had while at the resort. The staff were also continually checking in on us to ensure our stay was relaxing and enjoyable. I got a bad fever for a couple of days during our stay and the staff were extremely helpful to ensure I was looked after, and checked in on me hourly in case we needed anything or if a doctor should be called. We can’t say enough to describe how lovely the staff were from start to finish!
Now the food…. My wife has a lot of food allergies as I mentioned, and travelling can be difficult, so it requires a lot of research and communication with a resort to make sure she is safe as we both love to travel and aren’t going to allow her allergies to hold us back from something we enjoy doing together so much.
Prior to arrival we emailed back and forth with the guest services staff (Dianna) regarding her allergies and they noted all of them under our reservation and discussed with the head chef to plan out personalized meals for every single day! This we did not expect! Escape has one open air restaurant that looks over the gorgeous bay. It has a rotating menu each day, so we were initially concerned that eating could be difficult being restricted to just one restaurant option, and honesty maybe a little boring too….. however we had nothing to worry about at all! As soon as we arrived, head chef Danny met us in the lobby and reviewed all her allergies and assured us that the staff will be taking them seriously and making sure she is safe. He even went out and bought specific groceries just for my wife and had a separate area of the kitchen where all her food was prepared each day! Every day when we would be at the restaurant the staff would confirm which dishes were safe for her to eat and which ones could be easily modified to be safe. Daily, head chef Danny would come chat with us regarding the menu, and often came out during the dinner rush, when he was super busy just to quickly chat and make sure we were looked after. Might sound silly to some, but my wife was brought to tears on multiple occasions with how much love and attention she was receiving. The food was absolutely delicious, well prepared and presented! Every Single Meal! My wife had ZERO allergic reactions during our entire stay (which happen very regularly at home…..) and we felt very safe under Danny’s attentive care for her. For those of you who have dietary needs, I would HIGHLY recommend this resort! You will be taken care of in a way that’s just hard to put to words! Escape, NEVER GET RID OF DANNY & your beautiful kitchen and serving staff!!! What rare finds. Wonderful, wonderful people.
Finally, a little about the island. Antigua has so many beautiful beaches, scenic views and rich history that you need to rent a car at least for a day or two and explore the island. Rental cost is fairly cheap and the island is small so getting around doesn’t take a lot of time. Be aware though that the roads do have quite a lot of potholes and can easily rupture a tire if you’re in a compact car - this happened to us and the insurance you purchase on the island doesn’t cover this, so be careful! We rented a car for 2 days and visited numerous locations such as Devil’s Bridge, Carlisle Bay, Shirley Heights, Betty’s Hope sugar mill plantation, Nelson’s dockyard, Galleon bay & hike to the pillars of Hercules, Sweet Coconuts at Morris Bay (the most amazing ice cream) and also Hawksbill bay. Galley Bay is stunning as well, but note that non-guests need to pay for a day pass to have access to bathrooms and other resort amenities - which needs to be booked at least a day prior.
The room we loved. Very comfortable mattress, though I know we’re in the Caribbean and it’s hot, but a thicker, more cozy duvet or comforter would be really appreciated. The bed just has a top sheet and then a thin bed covering, so we just asked for 2 and it was better. The outdoor patio area with free standing tub & plunge pool is fantastic! Not all hotel plunge pools have the best design in our opinion, but the plunge pools at Escape have a really great design, size and depth. Also very clean which we appreciated! Also loved the huge glass patio doors and all the natural light!
3 negatives about the rooms though are:
1.) the shower, though large and spacious, had terrible drainage, so when you’d shower, it would just completely fill up to almost over flowing….
2.) If you’re booking a partial bay view room, know that some of the partial bay view rooms have zero bay view…. (We were in room 3803) Foliage is still really pretty though, but zero bay views, and we were expecting with our booking at least a partial bay view. Even so though, loved our stay. Just wish the room descriptions were more clear…. We did book through Expedia, so this could be a fault on their end.
3.) Room seemed decently clean overall, though the floors were very dirty…. :( We brought along hotel slippers to wear in the room and the bottoms of them were black (unfortunately no exaggeration here…) almost immediately…. :( that was a negative for us, but we didn’t want to complain about it….. so we just made sure to not go bare foot in the room at all.
And then other things we would kindly suggest the property do are:
You can’t see the gorgeous bay views from the pool area at all because of all the foliage blocking the view. We completely respect and understand that this would be such a huge undertaking to trim down a bit to create a view, but it’s just too bad that you can only enjoy it in the common areas of the restaurant and lobby, and not while lounging by the pool. Especially since Escape isn’t directly on a beach.
And then secondly, a gym would be wonderful. Walks were great, but it would have been lovely to have access to even just some weights to keep up with our workouts while on vacation.
Other than these few minor things, Escape at Nonsuch Bay is absolutely wonderful!!! It feels like home. We travel every winter and love experiencing new places, but we loved Antigua & Barbuda and the Escape property so much, that we’ve already booked another trip! And this time returning for 10 nights and can’t wait!!!
- bigbirddevon (8/5): Very good but room for improvements too - We had a lovely, relaxing stay at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay. The setting is beautiful and peaceful, perfect for switching off, and the nearby dock adds to the charm. The staff were consistently pleasant, friendly, and helpful throughout our stay, which really made a difference. We also enjoyed the free kayaking, excellent WiFi, and the convenience of having a free safe in the room. The food was generally excellent with plenty of choice, although the quality did vary slightly from day to day.
However, there were several areas where the accommodation felt tired and in need of attention. Our patio ceiling fan was broken, there was a large burn hole in the plunge pool mattress, and the shower had a loose drain cover. The lack of a shower curtain meant the bathroom floor became very slippery, and there was no lock on the glass toilet door, which affected privacy. We were also only given one door key per couple, which was inconvenient at times.
A few promised amenities were missing, including bathrobes and a Nespresso machine — only a kettle was provided. Breakfast cold meats and cheese were very limited, with the “cheese option” being the same slice used for burgers. Overall, the resort has a lot of potential due to its location, staff, and peaceful atmosphere, but some maintenance issues and missing touches held it back from being truly five-star.
- Roving12415520329 (10/5): Great honeymoon! - Great honeymoon location! The scenery was beautiful from our room. They have very decently priced excursions you can book at the front desk, such as couples massages, sushi boats (in your room), and snorkeling. The food was amazing! Very fresh and lots of various options to try each day. The food is made to order. This resort is small but very romantic. Each night you can sit on the docks with seating, swim in your own plunge pool or sit by the bar. The nearest beach is by boat (5 min boat ride at no extra cost), they let you stay and relax on the beach for a couple hours then you get picked back up.
The only two negatives is the mosquitos at nighttime, make sure to have mosquito spray. I also wished there was a gift shop that had souvenirs.
- richardkT793OG (10/5): Excellent - Wow,Wow,Wow, spent a week at the Escape for my 50th birthday and it did not disapoint nothing was too much trouble. From the front of house team too all the resturant staff and the cleaners everyone was amazing so friendly, and always happy too help, they even brought out a birthday cake and sang happy birthday too me. The concierge team were amazing arranging taxis and outings for me and my wife, like I said nothing was too much trouble, would definitely recommend a stay at this resort, the surroundings are truly stunning from the picturesque views too the local wildlife. A must is the snorkeling with turtles with Devon who made the trip extra special with his local knowledge absolutely brilliant.
- Bennybadcat (8/5): Time to relax - This is the Atlantic side of the island so there is no beach unless you take the small boat around the corner unfortunately the seaweed takes over the sea but the beach is very quiet and plenty of sun beds, there is cold water to drink and restrooms, the hotel is positioned on a hillside so it does involve lots of steps everywhere.
The rooms are very good, comfortable well laid out, toiletries are all supplied and are high-quality. There is a mini fridge unfortunately this isn’t stocked tea and coffee making facilities, good hair dryer, ironing board, only thing lacking for us was no robes, rooms cleaned every other day. lovely outside space with private plunge pool and an outside bath, only one chair to sit on outside. we had a ground floor room unfortunately we didn’t get much sun due to all of the trees, lots of steps down to the room and also lots of steps to the pool and restaurant area,
The pool area is compact. The sunbeds are a bit tatty , but there are fresh towels available every day. The sun beds in the pool are a treat to lay on.
Good menu choices with great presentation, this is the Caribbean so service isn’t rushed, Maxine brings enthusiasm passionate and energy to her role always a pleasure when she was on duty, a couple of the others should take a lesson from her. Enjoyed the BBQ evenings and the entertainment when it was on, extra special mention to the brilliant saxophonist.
- chrisrI4793WG (8/5): Room For Improvement - We had a fantastic relaxing stay at the escape. It’s such a relaxing place and you really do feel chilled.
The chefs really do deserve praise, we never had a bad meal. Ingredients are fresh and we honestly can’t fault it.
Portion sizes are spot on.
The Antiguan breakfast should be offered more regularly than just once a week.
The waiting staff are a credit to you especially Maxine, Maudrina and Charles on the bar.
The island picnic is a must it’s amazing.
We walked to the beach on many occasions and I don’t know where people get the 15 minutes walk from on other reviews.
It took us 8 minutes tops.
The beach isn’t great but we loved one of the infinity pools there. Every time we had a big pool to ourselves with sun loungers just perfect!
Just somethings to note.
There is a lack of readily available information, you do have to ask to find timings of trips and for how long they are and how much they cost.
I feel you could have a information sheet with this on in reception as a lot of the time you don’t have someone there on reception to ask before 9am and they have gone by 6pm.
We did try the steak & lobster (only half a lobster is what you are served) one evening which you do incur a surcharge for.
We didn’t mind paying this as we had supposedly got 20% off food with our VIP EXPEDIA Perk.
Sadly this was not the case when the bill was queried on the day before we left.
We were informed that it was only on the food experiences that you can have in your room. Which we found incredibly strange as you would think it would be off the menu in the restaurant! Sadly this did get our backs up. When it was mentioned to Randy that this should have been mentioned before.
We felt it was brushed over and that’s how it is.
We did enjoy having a spa treatment each and that was also very relaxing. Again we did have to flag up the 20% off spa treatments which was included in our stay luckily there was no arguments on this one.
We did seem to have the garden room that was next to where the staff seem to go in and out of a lot. Which can be quite noisy.
On other reviews we did read about beach towels not being available when asked for, we did experience once on our stay and we where told that when available they would be delivered to our door, this never happened!
The room gets cleaned every other day which is fine but the towels in the room really need changing everyday due to you showering a couple of times a day.
The floor also by the shower gets very wet due to no shower curtain which we felt is needed!
You definitely need to bring mosquito repellent with you, we did after reading other reviews.
But on a more serious note we did have a big concern about security of the room keys. One evening we were in bed asleep when someone tried to get in to our room (one would assume another guest staying at the hotel)
Luckily we had put the latch across the door which did stop them actually getting into the room. We had locked ourselves in the room and the other person had managed to unlock it with there room key. If it wasn’t for the latch they would have got in!
We over heard another couple saying that it had happened to them. Clearly all room keys open every room.
On a whole this place is lovely and having your own private plunge pool is amazing.
We looked at the possibility for booking next year but after what has happened on our 2nd to last day with the bill and the security issue with the room key we will not be returning.
Which is a shame.
The reception team have let this place down.
Also a note we like to pay as we go after having experiences this also seemed to be frowned upon and had to chase up receipts they said would be emailed on 2 occasions.
When we checked out we where not asked if everything was ok with our stay.
- Dailydaisy22 (8/5): If you want to escape… - This place truly lives up to its name! We wanted to relax and certainly did!
We got a taxi outside the airport US$ 55 to the hotel.
We had booked just a ground floor garden suite so limited sun due to the trees outside of the room blocking it. Used it more for cooling off after a day at the beach.
Rooms are a good size and the patio with bath and pool a bonus though we did get bitten lots by Noseeums rather than mosquitoes. So a good bug spray is a must and hydrocortisone cream good for the bites. You just couldn’t get away from them!
Also bring ear plugs as you will hear what sounds like a whistling bird but it’s frogs and they drove me up the wall! Luckily I had packed ear plugs.
We only had a kettle no Nespresso machine - tea coffee and UHT milk provided and a fridge. I brought some coffee bags too.
You are also supplied with shower gel, shampoos, conditioner and body lotion.
Iron and ironing board and safe also
Included.
Rooms only serviced every 2nd day and you need to leave the shell outside of the big shell!
Pool was small and limited loungers. Would be nice if there was a shower at the pool so we went to the beach most days. The hill is hard but we are fit enough and walked over rather than waiting for the free boat shuttle twice a day.
When you get to the top of the roundabout at the top of the hill take the 2nd exit with a No entry sign - it’s the best route to the beach. You will walk through what seemed like a ghost town- the units are privately owned and now rented out via Airbnb.
The beach when we were there was very quiet so was able to get a sunbed no problem. Toilets available to use and water dropped off by hotel every day. Definitely bring a water bottle with you!
Breezes has reopened for food and drink but not part of the all inclusive but was quite reasonable and it’s beautifully decorated - made sure you go down for sunrise - around 6am!
The beach still had some seaweed - this is one of the reasons we dropped a star as beach needs a bit more work and same with pool area that could be cleaned a bit better too. Nice breeze though!
Food was excellent - thanks to the chefs - small al la carte menu but we always found something to eat and quality was excellent. Liked no unhygienic buffets. Menu changes daily. The goat water soup was interesting but my husband loved the sea bisque soup!
A special mention to Maxine, Ivanna, Agatha and Charles who stood out but everyone
was excellent so thank you!
We did a boat trip to Green Island with hotel $25 each and recommend the afternoon 2pm trips as all the morning catamaran boats will have gone. Did it twice and the afternoon trip we had the beach all to ourselves!
Also make sure you do the nature trip with Vorn Johnson on a Tuesday and Thursday at 4pm for an hour. Wear trainers as he will take you out over -
rough ground-will teach you all about the local plants.
This hotel won’t be for everyone but we met lots of nice people and had a lovely holiday - do your research- it’s a very quiet area - we didn’t hire a car but many do
- Leycia (9/5): Excellent customer service, the staff makes you feel comfortable and at home. Great for a mini vacay - Excellent customer service. BBQ Buffet, meat was tough. Limited meal options
- Fearless06663183969 (10/5): Memorable vacation, extraordinary staff! - Extraordinary staff! Exceptional and superb service from Restaurant and front desk staff! Very memorable vacation.
- K8503RCjulias (10/5): Couples trip - We are now on our last evening at the Escape at Nonsuch Bay, and it has been a fantastic vacation.
Our transfers were arranged by the staff at the Escape, and we were greeted at the airport by a driver holding a sign with our name on it. He was great and able to give us information about the island. I messaged The Escape the week before we arrived, and it was very easy.
We were greeted by friendly staff who provided us with all the necessary information, and we proceeded to our room. The rooms are excellent, and all of them have a pool and a bathtub on the balconies. You are provided with two water bottles that need to be refilled at the front lobby, so it is a good idea to bring some extra bottles to ensure you have enough water.
We didn't have a Nespresso machine in our room, so I called down and they brought one to us. We like strong coffee, so we brought our own pods from home.
The food has been excellent, and all of the staff were great, especially Maxine! She is a delight, and she took great care of us. Maxine provided us with some helpful tips on places to visit on the island.
We were often greeted in the morning by Keirah at the front desk, and she was always happy to help.
The pool is small, and we didn't spend much time there, as we spent most of our time at the beach. We walked to the beach most days, which was a bit of a hike, but we didn't mind. You can also access the beach by water shuttle, which we took home a few times. There are two more pools on the beach side. You can also book a shuttle to Green Island, which was terrific and suitable for snorkelling.
We rented a car for a few days with a company recommended by the resort, Drive a Matic Car Rental. The Hyundai Tucson was very clean, and the person who dropped it off was polite and efficient. The car was dropped off and picked up from the resort.
We were able to visit some different beaches and had lunch at Darkwood beach, which was recommended by Maxine. The resort also has a shuttle to the BBQ and sunset party at Shirley Heights for $25.00.
There are many mosquitoes and no-see-ums, so don't forget to bring some and spray yourself down a few times a day. I wish that I had brought an Off lantern for the balcony.
We were fortunate to meet some new friends, some of whom have been returning to The Escape year after year.
We were so thankful to all the staff who helped to make our trip so memorable and special. Shanea, Michah, Maxine, Keirah, Ivanna, Naisha. I wish I could remember everyone's names, but we were treated great by everyone.
We are already planning our next visit, and it will definitely be for a longer duration next time.
- Rashawn (4/5): Do better - Antigua is beautiful, though. - The view in your actual room and at the top of the hill, overseeing the trees and ocean. 1. No one came to get our bags to take them to our room (which was not a short walk, by any means.)
2. This is an Adults-only resort, yet, you don’t feel that experience.
3. It seems the only thing you’re paying for with the resort was the private pool in your room.
4. Staff is very inconsistent between breakfast, lunch and dinner - some are genuine and some are rude.
5. Your room gets cleaned every other day and you must place the shell outside your room door down.
6. The food was decent. Dinner ends at 10:00pm and the bar closes at 10:30, which is counterproductive, considering the amount of drinking you may or may not be doing. Either way, after 10pm, you’re basically SOL. There will be a lot of small black birds joining you for breakfast and lunch, btw. (If you clap your hands, they’ll just fly to another open table looking for any food left behind.)
7. Once it’s dark outside, there are no street lights so that you can see your way back to your room, or even your room number.
- Z7369GElucyb (10/5): October 2025 trip - amazing - We had the best week here in October 2025.
It was my husbands birthday and we also got a week adults only.
We paid extra for the bay view suite and it was absolutely stunning.
The food was great also, every meal was so nice.
The staff could not do enough to help, from the ground workers, to the waitresses to the admin staff on reception!
Helped us shape and build a fantastic holiday and trip for us to remember for a lifetime.
Personalised touches were such appreciated and I could not recommend staying here enough. Secluded, quiet and taxi rides away from an island in the Caribbean full of beautiful beaches and stunning views!
- bumblebeekemble (8/5): Good, but not great - Apologies for the length of this post but we wanted to give what I think is a fair and balanced view of the Escape. It offers good value for money, but please be aware of the resort realities before committing. We enjoyed our holiday, but will not be returning.
Location
The Escape is in a very quiet and secluded location to the east of the island. Great if you are happy to relax in resort, but you will need a car or taxi to go anywhere else.
The Escape was part of a larger development the majority of which is not operational, so although there are other buildings nearby, it’s largely deserted.
Resort
The resort is very small. There is one restaurant/bar which links directly to the pool deck. Pool itself is very small with a limited number of sun loungers around it. Two or three chairs/tables on the dock. There are no other communal areas/relaxation spaces.
Overall the resort feels tired/a little run down - torn lounger cushions, paint/woodwork in need of a refresh etc. Pool water always looked a little murky/cloudy – we tended to stick to the one in our room.
Accommodation
Rooms are largely as described but again are showing signs of age, wear and tear. Paintwork scuffed, older fixtures and fittings, faded/marked upholstery etc. Plunge pool was nice and patio spacious but only one arm chair unless you moved one from inside the room.
Beach
The beach is located on the opposite side of a steep hill where the empty resort buildings are located. Access is via boat from the Escape dock (shuttle twice a day) or you can walk (15 mins). Beach has sun loungers but nothing else. Beach bar not operational during our 11 night stay. It is not nice to swim from this beach – full of seaweed. No one seemed to be addressing this despite what previous posters have said.
We paid ($25 a person) to go to Green Island a few times to swim/relax where beach is beautiful and water clear. Other good beaches near-by but all require private taxi transfers.
House-keeping
Rooms serviced every other day to a really basic standard. Towels changed and bed made, but nothing tidied, floors not mopped, shower/basins not cleaned. During our stay we were given one bath towel and a flannel each. No hand towels. Each room had two beach towels which could be exchanged at reception. These were rarely available leading to us using the same ones for a few days running. Not nice in heat/sun-tan lotion etc.
Restaurant
All meals served al a carte. Reasonable choice but quality varies hugely. Some good dishes, others poor. Menu seems to be on weekly rotation, so will get some repeats over a 7+ day stay.
Bar service was good although could be slow at busy times.
Wildlife
Others have mentioned the birds on the restaurant terrace. They can be a pest, but it’s not helped by some guests feeding them. We regularly shooed them away and did not find them too bothersome.
The mosquitoes on the other hand are out of control. The resort sits over a mangrove forest and the amount of mosquitoes in/around the resort is incredible. No rooms/communal areas have screens and the hotel appears to fumigate infrequently. Despite coming prepared with repellent wrist bands, spray etc we still got bitten multiple times. Some people had 30+ bites. It made sitting outside even during the day very uncomfortable, hence we paid for taxis to do a number of day trips to the beach to get some reprieve.
Ill fitting patio and bedroom dooms do not help with mosquitoes making it into the bedrooms – we kept the air-conditioning on very cold to try and deter them.
Overall I think a fair rating for the hotel would be 3.5 stars. The staff try really hard and are all very pleasant, but the hotel does need work. Great for 'getting away from it all' but not for those who are looking for a little bit of luxury.
- O6958LOlaurenr (8/5): Book! Such a surreal experience - What an incredible hotel. Staff went absolutely above and beyond to make our honeymoon special. No ask was too much and they really do anything to make you feel amazing. The only critique would be that it is a distance from any of the ‘main’ areas, about a 45 min taxi. Taxis came about to 80$USD for a return each time. However it is justified as they drop you off and agree a pick up time, you can also do a multi drop off (we went English Harbour then Shirley heights then back to hotel) the beauty of the hotel does outweigh the taxis tho. It is so quiet and peaceful. We’ve only ever been to big resorts and it was just so nice to chill, not having to race for a sun bed. 3 course meal each night, no buffet. Food was gorgeous and made you feel fine dining. The communal pool is on the small side but it’s a small hotel, plus you have your own pool in ur room so it really wasn’t an issue. My partner has trouble with mosquitos, a few other guests did too, I Didn’t have a single issue so suppose that’s just a gamble you take, but the hotel sell spray and have plenty of citronella candles for you to use. Additionally extras we did and reccomend- turtle snorkel tour- as people who never been snorkelling this was perfect first time and was just amazing to see turtles up close. The island was deserted we were the only people there. Champagne sunset cruise- BOOK THIS! Wow what an experience, ‘Devin from heaven’ was a superstar, so kind and funny, gave us a photo shoot and make the whole experience worth it just in the first 5 minutes. A beautiful sunset boat tour around the bay, drinks and snacks included. 1.5-2 hours. We informed them it was our honeymoon, the decorated our room and even decorated the dinner table on the week anniversary of our wedding day. All in all I couldn’t fault it. It’s beautiful, everything we ever dreamed of and never thought we could afford , was the perfect honeymoon.
- Q3128HTsharonm (10/5): “Exceptional Service and Serenity at Escape Nonsuch Bay, Antigua” - Our stay at Escape at Nonsuch Bay Resort was absolutely wonderful! From the moment we arrived, we were greeted with warmth and genuine hospitality from the entire team. Monique, Charles, Hanna, Kiandra, Merusia, Ally, Kierah, D’hijah, Tymeka, Ivanna, Khadijah, Shanea, Bevicia, and Tishika all made our experience truly unforgettable.
It was my husband’s first visit to Antigua, and the staff went above and beyond to ensure our stay was special. Everyone we encountered was friendly, attentive, and eager to make us feel at home. The resort itself is nestled in a quiet, serene part of the island, surrounded by breathtaking beaches and stunning natural beauty — perfect for a relaxing getaway.
Compliments to the chef for the delicious meals served daily! Each dish was flavorful, beautifully presented, and offered a wonderful variety that kept every dining experience exciting.
We would also like to extend our appreciation to all the staff members not mentioned by name — your care, kindness, and genuine smiles made a lasting impression.
Antigua and its people are truly beautiful, and our time at Escape Nonsuch Bay Resort has left us with cherished memories. We can’t wait to return!
- Dahtorq (10/5): A relaxing stay - Absolutely fantastic, relaxing holiday. Great staff, good food and superb cocktails. Gorgeous room with its own private plunge pool
- C54GUjonw (10/5): Relax and go and ESCAPE at Nonsuch Bay - We had a wonderful holiday here in October 2025.It is what it says on the box ESCAPE!! and relax. All the staff were really nice and helpful especially Kierah who was really nice and very helpful & Devon on the boat was a laugh a minute! The food was lovely not too much but just right and all home cooked. The room with bay view & pool was splendid.
Well done to all the staff!!!
- bkmdnno (10/5): Wonderful - First I’ll start by say this place is quiet. Quiet!!!!
Lovely resort, out of the way. Rent a car for a few days. They’ll deliver and pick up at the hotel. The one restaurant on property was perfect. Never crowded. Dinner menu changed nightly. One night we asked for French fries as and add on to our diner and they brought them out with cheese and bacon. 👌 single bar with maybe 8 seats. Not a lot of sun in the garden rooms but you can lay out by the lobby pool. Sushi boat was delicious but gigantic. they have a boat that shuttles you to green island. Lovely place beautiful island will definitely recommend.
- B6873UAlindab (10/5): A hidden gem and just what we needed 😌 - We arrived a week ago and immediately said the word 'wow' four times, the view, reception, the rum punch and our bedroom with a plunge pool. Our first couples only all inclusive. The majority of food we were offered was amazing, one the chefs stood out as every course was excellent. The service was always on point but it was the bar tender Khadijah that made our trip special. She was so attentive throughout our stay. A top tip 👌 the pool side music/ playlist is awful. Once we were the only ones at the bar and I asked if the music could be changed. I was informed that the music was on a loop. Please allow the staff to demonstrate their personality and respond to guests request. Truly a hidden gem 💎
- mattcW578LM (10/5): Escape at the escape of nonsuch bay - Arrive at a reception desk of beautiful drift wood and smiling faces ready to help you simply get ready for holiday mode with your first of many rum punches, WiFi, info and key, you’re set!
The room… wow! Large room with everything you need in it! The view from the bed was also stunning, the plunge pool was a game changer, the wild bird’s on display were enchanting.
The bar area had lovely views, near to the pool and serve awesome cocktails for the entirety of your stay.
The restaurant, open plan, awesome views (sunsetting in the evening) different foods served everyday, lots of local cuisine, and some of the best jerk in the whole of Antigua.
The dock, hidden in the mangrove chill out at the waters edge, soak up the sun, the peace and another cocktail.
The beach. Commute by speed boat for Les than 5-minutes, or walk up, then down a fairly steep hill - 15 minutes there at a decent pace in crocs. A small, secluded bit of sand, cold water and WC available, palm trees and lovely tepid sea water
Additional activities- we booked additional excursions, which were all amazing - the reggae rum punch, sunset cruise was straight 10/10
The secluded beach picnic was great fun
The Indian had massage - Rosie had hands of magic and I didn’t want to leave.
Finally, the staff. From front of house, to maintenance, room service, the girls in the restaurant and bar, the Captains for the boats, and the pool cleaner, you made our stay even more special and nothing was too much to ask for * except the chefs not divulging their jerk recipe. The staff provided us with a mini bar, birthday messages in petals on the bed and a card from the staff at dinner.
What we really loved was the quiet isolation of the escape
- JacksH1960 (6/5): Beautiful Views - Lovely Rooms. - First impressions, such a beautiful location. The views are unreal, stunning in fact. It's a small cosy resort the bar and pool area are good, very relaxed. The rooms are fabulous! They are large and very comfy, the small plunge pool is a very welcome feature, we used it a lot. The room is cleaned every other day.
The beach is probably a 25 min walk away up a very steep hill and down the other side, we did know this before our arrival. There is a shuttle from the hotel by a little speed boat, which was fun. Our biggest gripe was there is no beach bar - just a water station! All the guests were very unhappy at this, after all it was an all-inclusive resort, so this is unheard of. You don't get a minibar so you can't even take your own drinks to the beach, this is very off putting. The beach itself was nice and seaweed free when we were there.
Entertainment is very low key, there was a group one night and a saxophonist another. That was it. There was a distinct lack of music around the bar area, it was very quiet. We understand not everyone wants blaring music, but a little in the background can be enjoyable.
Hurricane Jerry hit whilst we were there, so we had to collect dinner from the restaurant and eat it in our room. We understand they have to have contingency plans in place but we thought the food that was supplied to us was very sub-standard, almost inedible. Rice with a few pieces of pork thrown in.
Be aware, when it rains, they are unable to serve you in the restaurant due to it having a leaky roof and no shutters to close it off to the elements. They offer you to eat in your room, again. This is unacceptable, they really need to do more to rectify this as we all know how the Caribbean weather can be at times. If it does rain or there is a storm there is nowhere for you to go except your room, there are no covered seating areas or a lounge.
Would we return? No. With a little more effort the resort could be fantastic, a bit more thought needs to be put in to make the guests comfortable. It seems they are running on half empty. It could be a fabulous resort.
Staff: We really enjoyed chatting to Ivananna who worked in the restaurant and bar, a genuine really sweet girl, who loved talking about her family. Charles - you do the best cocktails and always had a wonderful smile! Prim - we had a couple of small issues, but he helped us out, quickly. Enjoyed chatting to him too.
- who5kjc (6/5): Beautiful setting and amazing staff, but facilities need some attention. - We stayed for one week as part of a two week trip, met done lovely people. Great Staff and Rooms, but Some Areas Need Improvement
Arrival and check-in were smooth, although we didn’t receive a welcome drink like others have mentioned. That said, the bar was only a few steps away, so no big deal! Cocktails and bar staff were fab. We also had to take our own cases to the room, which was in the second-to-last block — again, not a huge issue but something worth noting.
The staff at this resort are fabulous — genuinely kind, helpful, and friendly. Beach towels can be a bit hard to find and tend to disappear quickly. There’s no minibar in the rooms, with plunge pools, this would have been a nice touch. Apparently, those are only included in the executive rooms, or chargeable at $50 per day though we had a lovely bay view room anyway.
You’re only given two bottles of water for your stay, but these can be refilled at reception. If not again charged at $2 per bottle. We brought our Stanleys, which worked perfectly. As it’s out of season, only water was available on the beach — the beach bar was closed and distant look like its opening anytime soon but we still enjoyed the walk and the speedboat shuttle. The beach is not the best ! A trip to Green Island shouldn’t be missed.
Food has been generally not been great other guests have commented on this too with a nice variety at breakfast and enjoyable lunches. Dinner was a bit limited, especially for fussy eaters, but there was always something available. We paid extra for the lobster and steak meal for my birthday — unfortunately, it wasn’t worth the additional cost. Service was a bit hit or miss too either amazing or not so good.
The pool is small and, during our stay, didn’t look particularly clean. When mentioned, we were told it’s cleaned daily, though it didn’t appear that way. There is no easy access in or out of the pool and for those less able there are lots of steps and perhaps not a suitable property. The bar is small and in poor weather which does occur there is not enough suitable dry space for guests. Worth noting is that many pictures on both the virgin and BA website are very old ! Many of the sunbeds are very worn, and one morning we found animal droppings around the pool area. While we appreciate there’s plenty of wildlife here, public areas should really be cleaned before guests arrive.
Please don’t get me wrong — there are lots of great things about this resort, especially the staff and the rooms, which are fabulous. However, there’s definitely room for improvement. In my opinion, while the rooms feel 4–5 star, the rest of the hotel experience is closer to 3 star. We travel regularly and know what the differences in standards and expectations should be around the world.
Worth noting some drilling and banging from across the Bay during our stay which looked like a refurbishment are taking place in a nearby property. Would we return, no when there are so many other great hotels out there.
- EddBanks (10/5): Escape and pure relaxation !!! - Spent a week here from 9-16th October 2025 with my wife. A very relaxing week, it’s a lovely resort, room was amazing, we paid extra to upgrade to have the full bay view. We found the food very good and served by employees who tried their best to give the best levels of service. My advice would be to hire a car and get around and visit the island, would recommend visiting Shirley Heights Sunday evening ( get there early like 4.30pm ish to avoid the crowds and capture the stunning views. Pigeon Point beach was our favourite beach of the 15 or so we visited. We didn’t use the hotel pool much and found the beach at the resort (a 10 minute walk approx up a hill) a little disappointing but they did have Storm Jerry 2 days prior !!!! Shout out to all the staff but Charles and Naisha went above and beyond most during our stay - would we return, yes most definitely. We met some lovely people from the UK and US during our stay..
- melanie (8/5): Truly an Escape - We visited the Escape the first week of September. Check-in was simple and efficient. We had already checked in online, and we had pre-ordered our private picnic, so things were very simple. We waited until about 2:30, and our room was ready. The shining stars of this resort are the rooms....fantastic. We had a bay view room, and the view and the plunge pool were spectacular. Luckily for us, our pool started receiving sunshine at around 10:30am, so we could use it for most of the day. Which was a very good thing, because the main pool was tiny, with not near enough seats to accommodate everyone who wished to use it. There were also only two chairs in the sun, so it was a battle every morning to see who would get those two seats. This area of the resort definitely needs some improvement. The beach was also a disaster. If you missed the boat ride over, you needed to walk up and down some very steep hills to get there.....once we arrived, we wished we hadn't bothered. The beach is a mess, and filled with sargassum and growing sea grass. Not swimmable at all. We went one time, and stayed for about 30 minutes, then trekked back to the main resort. We did pay to do the private beach picnic on Green Island, and that was fantastic! Highly recommend. The set up was nice, the food was good, and you could use the beach. Loved our time there. Well worth the US$150. Meals were good. Some were very good. I'm not used to having such a small amount of choices, but we made do with what they had. We rented a car for two days, and I highly recommend doing this. The other side of the island had spectacular beaches (Jolly Beach was amazing), and it is worth it to get out and see the countryside. We enjoyed this very much. We also had dinner at Slates one night, and let me tell you, this place was unbelievable! A Michelin Star chef, and every course was divine!!! Well worth it!! The bugs were rough at Escape, make sure you bring some serious bug spray with you!! The staff were lovely. Overall, we enjoyed our time at Escape. We feel that we got a good deal for our money, and we would probably visit again for the room and plunge pool alone. Very relaxing place that truly makes you unwind and slow down. Thank you Escape, for a lovely vacation.
- Q4894QHmatthewm (10/5): A little taste of paradise - The Escape is just amazing for couples. A nice relaxed resort out of the way. You might want to hire a car if you want to explore the island. The staff were so friendly and the resort has numerous activities and romantic add-ons if you’re on a honeymoon! After a week we didn’t want to leave
- michaelr61 (10/5): Value for money!!!!!!! here is why we give 5 out of 5 - So we’ve just spent a week here in September and have to say we were pleasantly surprised with this holiday.
Just so we can be clear this holiday with BA was the same price as a week in Tenerife so value for money is outstanding.
We wanted a very quiet and relaxing trip and this hotel delivers that in abundance.
We are not massive eaters and like peace and quiet when we are away. Nearly everyone dresses for dinner with collar and chino shorts for the men and it’s nice to see but lunch and breakfast are pretty informal flip flops and T shirts and shorts.
We had the beach to ourselves a couple of days. Walk to beach is up and down a very steep hill! Just book the speed boat taxi of you can’t do it! Simple. The sargassum isn’t a problem at moment and is breaking down day by day so the sea is getting clearer and it’s a very natural beach but lovely to sit and go for a paddle around.
The boys and girls that work here are amazing please show your appreciation with a tip, I really can’t see where some of the reviews moan about staff not being bothered with service levels and unfriendly!
We stayed in a bay view room and it was good quality plunge pool was cool and cleaned every other day but could do with foliage being trimmed to improve the views and let a bit more afternoon sun in.
You get two plastic water bottles that you need to refill with the water dispenser in the reception, I do feel a better quality reusable bottle would be better.
Bars open 10am to 10:30pm (this place pretty much closes down after dinner)
All meals are a la carte and when you go to breakfast you book your lunch and evening meal times, we had no problem with this at all and ate at 1pm and 8pm most days.
Cocktails are not a problem and mudslides, puma coladas and the BBC were my go to blended drinks.
Food was of a good standard and my wife is pretty much vegetarian and there was always something for her to eat.
Must do tips for your trip…….
Check in online before you arrive.
Take a strong insect repellent.
Do the Green island boat trip
QR code Antigua arrival online customs
Take a Stanley cup or chilly bottle.
Take a strong insect repellent.
The one issue we did feel needs addressing is the beach and drink situation. The beach is on the other side of the resort and this is pretty much shut down now and the restaurant and bar there is closed so there is no longer a drinks service. They do take chilled fruit water and water down but why not just pop down there with a few cold cans of beer and coke twice a day. It’s not a big ask really and would go a long way in my opinion.
Please understand this hotel is not for you if you are looking for the following things in a trip away.
1, Large scale feeding from a buffet
2, Entertainment and constant hussle and bustle, disco or nightclub
3, Eating until you can eat no more and drinking until you fall over at 2am
The name of the hotel should give the game away, it’s quiet, remote, understated, relaxing and an escape.
Again I am giving this review on the hotel as a value for money and that’s what it gets 5 out of 5 for. Go get something of this quality for the price, you will fail!!
- rennishat (10/5): A Great Escape - If you are looking for an escape from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, this is definitely the place for you. From having your own personal pool in your room to the catered meals and quiet scenery, the name definitely matches the esthetic of this resort. I can’t wait to be back.
- H8462WCannew (10/5): Perfection - My husband and I had the most amazing time at The Escape. All the staff were exceptionally friendly and helpful and always smiling. The room was beautiful. The food was exceptional with plenty of choice. We looked out onto a beautiful picturesque landscape and felt relaxed the whole time. If you want excitement and night life, this is not the place for you but, if like us, you want to enjoy a relaxing, beautiful, calm holiday this is perfect. We still did plenty of excursions and snorkling but you need to travel for that, not too far though and the wonderful people on reception book everything for you so there is no stress or issues. Even the taxi company that the hotel use, Vernon and his team, are friendly, reliable and welcoming. Always early but never making you rush.
All in all this was the prefect holiday for us and I cant thank everyone enough for making it that way.
- DavidandWendyNorfolk (10/5): Excellent stress free holiday! - Excellent hotel if you require peace, quiet and total relaxation.
Totally stress free holiday with exceptional staff from arrival to departure from Keirah. I can't remember all names, but Maxine (loveliest smile, very attentive especially with specially requested desert of cookies and ice which was our fav and made every day special), Hannah (friendly and bubbly and good for music at beach bar). Would recommend that the bay view room our plunge pool was a game changer, especially in the heat. Food was not your normal all-inclusive and was A la carte, but enough for us, and you could request different options.
Wednesday night was bbq and was our favorite night especially the jerk chicken.
Hiring a car would be a must in this location.
Green island tours with turtles, barracuda, and even an eagle ray were a good experience, and the beach trip on a boat was great.
Only thing we would personally like to see would be somemore fruit during the day or in the rooms
Thanks to all the staff and look forward to returning in the future.
- hannahrN7566GN (10/5): The Escape at Nonsuch Bay in Antigua was a memorable and perfect vacation experience. - Review of The Escape at Nonsuch Bay, Antigua
⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ (10/10 – would rate 100 if possible!)
My boyfriend and I stayed at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay from September 7th to September 10th. Our stay was amazing from start to finish. It exceeded all of our expectations and was a dream come true vacation.
We were welcomed upon arrival by the manager, Cheraine Simon, at the reception. Her hospitality and professionalism set us in the right mood for our stay. Every single staff member we interacted with: managers, waiters, and housekeeping personnel, were very friendly and made us feel taken care of.
Our room was spacious, spotless, cozy, and elegantly furnished with a garden view that was exquisite. It was the perfect combination of charm and comfort.
The cuisine was incredible. We were impressed by the revolving lunch and dinner menus. Each meal was a new adventure. The appetizers, desserts, and everything in between were all cooked to perfection. It was a treat to get to meet Chef Danny in person. You can tell that he loves to cook in every meal.
The views were stunning, the setting was peaceful, and every detail of the resort was well thought out to make our stay memorable. This is not a party resort; it is the contrary, and that is what makes it so unique. The Escape is perfect for quiet, peace, and reunion with your partner or even with yourself. It is a cool, serene getaway, and we would highly recommend it to anyone who values tranquility over nightlife, relaxation over activity, and intimacy over people. We would strongly suggest The Escape at Nonsuch Bay to anyone seeking a once in a lifetime indulgence. For the food, the view, or the warm hospitality, this place has it all. If the restaurant were to ever open to the general public, we would return for the cuisine alone.
A huge thank you to Cheraine, Chef Danny, and the rest of the team who made our stay so memorable. Without hesitation, we give it 10/10, 20/20, 100/100. We will definitely be back!
- 899dang (10/5): Third Time Is a Charm - This was our third consecutive visit to the Escape, which once again did not disappoint. The rooms are as fabulous as ever, we opted for a sea view for the first time, which although you compromise slightly on pool size, is compensated for by the stellar views.
But what really makes this resort so good are the staff. Across the whole team they are welcoming, thoughtful and caring. From the gardeners through to the bar, restaurants and kitchen staff and front of house, the team are wonderful.
There have been changes since our last visit, such as reducing plastic waste through using a water cooler rather than bottled water through to a slightly reduced menu size at dinner. These though di not diminish from the experience.
Perhaps the only area lacking is in the fruit selection which is limited and the variety of the menu which is a little limited.
- Will.I.Am (10/5): - Room Limited food options on menu
- lindyloodles2 (10/5): I don’t want to go home. - Our third time at the Escape and although there have been some minor changes, it is still the wonderful place we have got to know. As always the staff have been amazing - I don’t want to pick out individuals as everyone deserves a mention, but the banners, decorations and card for our various birthdays were such an extra special touch. We’ve loved getting to know everyone. Maxine- thank you for the guineps!
For those who may consider the hotel: rooms are spacious- and fully air conditioned. To reduce plastic waste the hotel now does not supply daily bottled water, instead there is a dispenser in reception for refills. A minor inconvenience. My biggest piece of advice: hire a car and see the island. The small beach is picturesque but 10-15 min walk from the hotel (or boat rides are available twice a day. However it is prone to sargassum so useful to have the option to explore the island. Mosquitoes have been plentiful this year so bring a repellant with minimum 30% deet.
The a la carte menu caters for most people and the chef will adjust to dietary requirements where ingredients allow. Am sure we will be back!
- Kadiaw (6/5): A Quiet Couples Getaway - We spent 10 nights at the hotel and overall had a great stay in Antigua. I have a mixed review, hence the 3 star rating. The biggest selling point is the rooms having private pools and a bathtub outside, which is one of the main reasons why we booked the hotel. Our room was exactly as advertised and very clean. No complaints there. Note that housekeeping is every other day.
It is a quiet resort with not much going on and fairly secluded, so it's ideal for those wanting to escape it all and relax. That's what we wanted from this holiday. I would say it is more of a couples hotel.
We loved the small dock areas where they had lounge chairs. It was nice to have that semi-private area to relax and have drinks.
All the staff were very welcoming and friendly. A special mention to Agatha and Hannah from the restaurant and Ivanna who remembered each morning to get me hot water for my tea bags and Charles, the bartender.
Some of the things why I didn't give a 5 star rating:
There are limited activities as part of the all-inclusive package; just kayaking which we enjoyed and a nature walk which we didn't try. Other activities, you had to pay for as resort extras. We booked the private island picnic, which was the highlight of our stay. Money well spent. I recommend booking this. The food was good and they gave us a good selection of drinks and desserts.
There is just one main restaurant which offers a 3 course menu for lunch and dinner. The menu changes daily, but repeats weekly. We found this limiting but give thanks to the staff who were flexible with combining/swapping parts of the dishes to accommodate our dietary requests. By day 7, we were a bit sick of the limited/same choices and started to skip breakfast and/or lunch. For that reason we felt that 7 days would have been long enough. One thing that never changes is that the Drift Burger is on the menu every day, for lunch and dinner. Overall the food was good. Service got a lot slower in the last few days of our stay and there were incidences when they didn't clear our starters/left our plates from starters on the table whilst we ate our mains and one occasion where they forgot to bring our starters and just brought out the main course. The blueberry cheesecake strudel was VERY nice. Our favourite dessert. We would have liked to see/experience a menu with more Caribbean cuisine other than the Antiguan breakfast offered on a Sunday. The BBQ buffet on a Weds night, helped mix things up a bit, so did the live music on some nights. The selection of cocktails and wine was good. Be warned that very chirpy black birds will join you for breakfast and lunch, looking for scraps of food.
Karen the yoga instructor, was great. Unfortunately, she had to reschedule the two sessions that we booked, we rescheduled one, and had no time left to reschedule the other, so that was disappointing. I know it's a small resort, but I would have expected something like Yoga to be included in the all-inclusive, rather than a resort extra that you have to pay for.
The resort is not well lit at night when walking from the rooms to reception, the hotel should invest in some lighting.
The Internet in our room went down for about 24 hours and only got fixed because we happened to walk by the technician as he was about to leave the resort. We were told different stories about why the Internet was down.
The biggest pain point for me was how many times I had to complete a credit card authorisation form. I had to fill one out to book our room, fill one out to add extra nights to our stay, to book the island picnic (this submission didn't get to the hotel, so I had to do it again), to book Yoga, to book our massages and then again upon check-in. This was VERY frustrating. It would have been easier to complete one form and check off which items/incidentals should be charged to the card.
The last few days we couldn't get the bath to fill up, it kept leaking. Seemed to be an issue with the plug. The bath taps also need replacing as the black coating was peeling off and leaking water.
We had an amazing time in Antigua and I would recommend staying at the hotel, but for 7 days or less.
- gezalaszlob (10/5): Great vacation at this awesome hotel - We have a great time here, excellent service, great and tasty food.
Rooms have their on pool and very good AC. and amenities.
The staff is very attentive always smiling and sort out anything you want.
The only downside is the mosquitoes as they are recklessly biting you over and over.
The private beach is 10 min walk but also there is a boat service every morning.
- devoniqueh2025 (10/5): ROMANTIC - I love the romance and the privacy. We stayed in the deluxe suite and it was breathe taking... waking up to the view was a memory core. My husband and I enjoyed the food however lunch menus selection is not what we expected... needs better options. Lol and we missed our last dinner but they were sooooo sweet in making us something quickly just to calm the nerves it was greatly appreciated! Love them for that! Shout out to them !
- 352ceel (8/5): Serious mosquito problem - This was our second visit to this resort we did have an amazing time , but felt it had slipped a little from our experience last year which is one of the reasons we rebooked ….
No steel drums on bbq night which we had the previous year great atmosphere feel bbq night lacked the Caribbean feel food wasent as good either
Smiley came to teach steel drums last year on a Thursday morning we asked where he was were told he no longer came
Pop quiz’s last year which was great fun and a female singer who got everyone involved
A lot of the bar staff have left they used to do a cocktail of the day Charles did two while we were there but no one else did a lot of bar staff didn’t want to be there seemed an effort such a shame as wasent like that last year
Maxine in the restaurant was amazing she was so attentive like she was last year always smiling she was the only one who regularly topped your coffee up in a morning the others didn’t you had to ask.
One of the girls on the bar was so lovely can’t remember her name but always knew I liked a tall glass for my Prosecco and my husband drank rum
And Coke attention to detail .
I don’t think our sheets got changed the whole 2 weeks we were there as there were same red marks on the sheets
Reception staff were always lovely and very helpful .
food was delicious
The main problem was the mosquitoes I know they are expected where you are staying but the amount was unbearable I never suffer but I was bitten to pieces I didn’t even enjoy sitting in restaurant or at the bar as so many needs to put mosquitoes nets above beds and really get on top of the problem so many people were covered in bites not nice
We were pleased we hired a car for 5 days saw so much Shirley heights was a
amazing
View from our room was stunning
We still did have an great holiday 😊
- E1062JFashleyw (10/5): A Hidden Gem in Antigua – Exceptional Service & Unforgettable Flavors - From the moment we arrived at Escape at Nonsuch Bay, we knew we were in for something special. Keirah greeted us with genuine warmth and enthusiasm, instantly setting the tone for a relaxing and joyful stay. Her welcome Rum Punch was the perfect touch, refreshing and delicious as we checked in and began to unwind.
Our first room was stunning, with a breathtaking view that made us feel like we were living in a postcard. Initially, we thought the heat was just part of the Caribbean charm in August, but we soon realized the AC wasn’t working. No worries—within moments, the staff had us moved to another equally beautiful room with crisp, cool air. The transition was seamless and handled with care.
The heart of our afternoons quickly became the poolside patio, where Charles and Cadeja, our incredible bartenders, remembered our drink orders by day two; 2 shots of tequila and Banana, Bailey’s and Coconut (BBC) or Piña Coladas with a generous pour! Their friendly service and attention to detail made every drink feel like a treat. We loved sipping cocktails while playing checkers and chess in the shade.
While the snack selection on our arrival day was limited (we arrived near the end of service), it was no issue. What truly blew us away was the quality of the meals. Breakfasts, lunches, and dinners were consistently flavorful and satisfying, with two options for an appetizer and two or three options for the main course, or you could opt to get multiples of one, honestly so much so that we didn’t even need the afternoon snacks. But we’d stocked up on a few goodies from a local market, for late night snacks.
One unforgettable highlight was the Antiguan Goat Water. After hearing from our driver that goat is a delicacy, my partner asked the server if it would be on the menu. Though it wasn’t planned, the Chef went out of his way to prepare it for a lunch option and it was hands down one of the best meals of our lives. Rich, savory, and deeply comforting, it left us speechless. To top it off, the Chef gifted us the recipe and walked us through how to make it, asking only that we keep his secret if we ever serve it back home. That kind of personal touch is rare and deeply appreciated.
We also had late dinner reservations most nights, and while lobster had run out on two evenings we asked for it, the Chef made sure we had not one, but two lobsters on our final night. Again, the flavors were authentic, bold, and unforgettable.
A note for future guests: the resort is nestled in nature, so expect some birds and bugs, it’s part of the charm, and the staff does their best to manage it.
Keirah continued to be a superstar throughout our stay, helping us book and adjust excursions, arrange taxis, and even secure a boat taxi to the resort’s private beach. Since it was the off-season, we had the beach almost entirely to ourselves for over two hours.
Escape at Nonsuch Bay exceeded every expectation. The views, the food, the service, and the genuine care from the staff made this a trip we’ll never forget. We’re already dreaming of our return.
Highly recommend to anyone seeking a true Caribbean Escape.
- mvickiewarren1 (10/5): Best 68th birthday ever. 🎂 - Omg best 68th birthday ever. Day n night front desk, maintenance, wait staff, Rosa massage n driver Tevin was the best. - 21lyndaj (6/5): Three and a half stars from us. - We stayed for a week. Check-in was a bit of a faff having to do it online. The lady on reception was so helpful. Booking our hire car and taxi to the airport. The food was lovely on the whole. BBQ night was a massive disappointment for us as we arrived at our 8pm meal time to find the only choice we were left with was chicken or chicken. Chicken breast or jerk chicken. Other guests told us that if we had come to the BBQ earlier, we would have had a choice. Twice when we arrived for our 8pm evening meal solt, we kept waiting and ignored for 15 minutes. While we totally understand that the restaurant can be busy, it would have been polite to acknowledge that we were waiting and suggest we wait at the bar until they were ready for us. We were fully aware the bar shut at 10.30pm. But by 9pm, we and a few other guests were made to feel very uncomfortable sitting by the pool having a few drinks by the bar staff. They served our drinks in paper cups, were rude. On my last evening, I asked for a cocktail at 10.25pm and was told by the bar lady that she couldn't make it. When I questioned why she made my cocktail and slammed it on the bar in front of other guests. It's a shame a few staff could be so rude in the evening as we found the staff during the day really lovely. We found the main claustrophobic and noisey as we could hear everything that was going on above us from reception. The pool was also difficult to get in and out of. We loved getting the speed boat back and forth to the beach every day. We can really recommend the guided snorkelling trip to Green. We saw loads of turtles and were very well looked after. Our room was gorgeous. We loved our plungepool.
- chrissyrev2019 (8/5): Great Honeymoon Destination - The Escape at Nonsuch Bay was the best choice for our honeymoon destination. Private, well kept, good food and service. All staff were very helpful and friendly. We booked several excursions through the resort (turtle snorkeling, champagne sunset cruise) which were great additions to our stay. Only downfall is beach access. Though you can walk or take a short boat ride, it is not directly accessible from the resort, so it may be difficult for some guests to get there daily. We did travel to the west side of the island (about an hour drive) to visit some other beaches, and the resort staff were able to book us a taxi which was convenient. The mosquitos are also very present, so bug spray is a must. Overall, the Escape provided a beautiful and luxurious honeymoon experience where we felt truly relaxed and could to celebrate together.
- gilmo10 (10/5): The best relaxing holiday - We had such an incredibly relaxing stay at The Escape; we had the best holiday. The rooms were beautiful and the plunge pool (plus air con!) was such a treat. The main pool had a great view and was so relaxing - the complimentary massages one day was a lovely surprise. The food was delicious and there was always enough choice - mahi was so yummy, bbq night was great and the banana bread for breakfast was heavenly. We loved the local musicians that were in the restaurant for dinner roughly every other day.
The hotel is remote but if you go there knowing that, you'll find it's perfect for a relaxing stay. Despite this, there was still lots to do in between chill days - would highly recommend the sea turtles (we had the whole bay/beach to ourselves to explore and snorkel), going to Stingray City and Shirley Heights for the view, bbq and steel drum band was a particular highlight. The hotel shuttle to the beach was good fun, but the beaches at English Harbour and Long Bay are seaweed-free and like paradise. Arranging everything with reception was so easy and hiring a car was really easy and worth every penny - we rented for 2 days and saw the whole island.
The staff at The Escape were also brilliant, nothing was too much trouble. The team helped us to organise the best holiday, fed us the most delicious food and kept us topped up on frozen daiquiris - what more could you want?!
- Wallbangers (10/5): Relaxing Getaway - We stayed for 2 weeks in July-August. Our room was lovely, although it was quite a walk from reception and as we had a garden view, there were some steps down to the appartment. Regarding the room, we had one issue where there was no hot water, we spoke to reception the following morning and were told we should have reported it immediately, the problem was fixed straight away. The other issue we had was privacy, our room 3204 would appear to be adjacent to an appartment used by staff during the day, which meant, we would see staff walking in the garden , which meant we had no privacy in the plunge pool or bath.
The pool was small but there were always sunbeds available, could do with steps to get in and out the pool, but it is doable.
The restaurant which is used for all three meals had lovely views as it overlooks the bay.
For breakfast you had a continental style or full English and if you wanted, you could have both, tell them what you want. For lunch and dinner, there was enough choice on the menu to satisfy most tastes, say if you don`t want part of the meal choice. Regardings desserts, there are two options, and if you wanted Ice Cream though not mentioned on the menu, it is always available, even to go with the dessert if you wish.
The hotel does need to be stricter with the dress code, as on a couple of occasions there were guests with just bikinis on and this was the evening meal?
To get to the beach and Green Island, we used the shuttle speed boat, free to the beach and $25 each to the island. Both the beach and Green Island were worth the trip, though we did only do them once during our stay.
Regarding excursions we did a tour of the Island which we booked privately and well worth it. A trip to Heritage Quays, St. Johns, which we were slightly underwelmed, but is is low season, we had a nice meal at Hemmingways Resturant. We also visited Long Bay Beach and Half Moon Bay, Long Bay Beach was nice, did have some seaweed, but we did not find this an issue, we did take some swim shoes, but did not feel like we needed to wear them. The only issue we had was there was very limited food options as the resturants were closed for the low season, there was a small snack shop, with limited snacks and you were able to hire out chairs and brollies. Half Moon Bay which was beautiful and very quiet but there was a large amount of seaweed, which meant we had to walk round to the far side where it totally clear, beds and brollies available after 10am approximately. It was fasinating watching the Pelicans flying and diving into the sea from your beds.
Overall a very pleasant and enjoyable stay.
- Traveler02724741641 (10/5): Perfect relaxation with a view. - Fabulous hotel with perfect rooms. The view from our balcony was amazing!
Plenty of sunloungers around the pool although most of them are in the shade.
Boat shuttle to the beach twice a day but we preferred to walk, less than 10 mins but up a very steep hill!! Unfortunately the beach is full of sargassum seaweed at this time of year. Beach bar serving drinks is included in the all inclusive package.
Do your research. The hotel really is in the middle of nowhere, half an hour drive to anywhere. Perfect for us for 5 nights but we were splitting our trip with another 5 nights in English Harbour.
Recommend the trip to Shirley Heights & Green Island.
- SussexBlue1 (10/5): Another Wonderful Stay – Feels Like Home! - This was our third visit, and once again, it felt like coming home. From the moment we arrived, Kiera welcomed us with such warmth (again) - it set the tone for another relaxing and memorable stay.
The hotel is small and intimate, which we love. The à la carte dining may have a minimal menu, but everything we tried was fresh and flavourful. We had the lobster again, which was just as good as the last two times!
We visited the beach most mornings, which is still looked after by Snapper who ensures the beach is clear of the inevitable seaweed that reaches shore. A small suggestion would be to have the option to book a light lunch at the beach, which was available the last time we came. We really missed this, as it would have been lovely to enjoy a panini without having to leave the sand!
Special thanks to the wonderful restaurant team—Maudina, Merlisia, Nisha and of course, Maxine, who has been ever present during our stays and always made sure we were well looked after.
The bartenders also deserve a shoutout: Cadeja and Charles at the main bar kept the drinks flowing with a smile, and Ivanna at the beach bar was fantastic—friendly, efficient, and always upbeat.
Looking forward to our next visit already!
- nkosiec2025 (10/5): Our anniversary getaway - Room, food & services exceeded all our expectations without a doubt. Maxine, Bevecia, Kiandra, Keyra & Maudrina ROCK!
- katielG6244SR (10/5): The escape we wanted - The private plunge pool room was amazing!! 🤩
Our room was well presented and clean. Our drain for clogged and they fixed it the same day. Very efficient.
The staff were extra accommodating and friendly.
We visited for our honeymoon and felt extremely special 😍
It is exactly what it says on the Tin. An escape. It is very remote. So renting a car is a must if you want to see the rest of the island. Prices for the excursions were reasonably priced and added for the room for ease.
Would stay again. 😃
Our guide for our champagne cruise and turtle trip, Devon from Heaven was dreamy and very friendly. He took the best photos.
- 124khaliaw (10/5): This resort was amazing. The views are breathtaking. Such a peaceful getaway - This resort was paradise. It’s so peaceful and relaxing. The scenery was breathtaking. The staff and locals are so friendly and welcoming. It’s so serene having your own private pool!
- MisscharlotteG122 (4/5): Dissapointing - We booked this resort based off recommendation from family who stayed last year, looking at the review prior to going we noticed return guests feeling like the standard had dropped regards to food and overall experience so we were concerned and we were right to be.
Food was limited/basic, I'm not fussy but the food wait and standard was awful.
I'd recommend eating at half moon bay.
I'll upload the cold cuts served at breakfast as I have no idea what meat that was ...
Every nights they advised missing ingredients so the menu is pointless.
Staff some nice others rude don't even say hi, it's hard to even order a drink without feeling like you're asking the impossible.
BBQ night no longer a bbq just some dry meat finished on a bbq. Entertainment and pool snacks gone, last year there was also a quiz but it seems like the resort is struggling money wise and have had lots of cut backs.
Rooms cleaned every other day which I found odd at an all inclusive, you have to request a pool clean as the birds ruin them with poo every day, it would be helpful if they could provide a net.
No items stocked in the fridge other than 2 bottles of water which you have to keep during your stay and refill at reception, micro plastics and not hygienic.
The star rating really needs to be looked at as the experience and amenities were no better than 2 star and we even looked at moving resorts but due to limited availability we had no option but to stay.
We did speak to staff regarding our disappointment and the chef did apologies and made us a special dinner which was nice however the night after was back to low standard Luke warm meat and rice.
We spoke to other couples there who also stayed prior years and they all agreed the place has gone down hill.
The hotel really need to make some changes or change the rating but I would not recommend.
The 2 star given was for the views and trip to green island.
- stephnaieg (8/5): An escape from everwhere - Writing this review on behalf of my Mother in law.
If reviewing based on the staff, 10/10 atmosphere really good.
Rooms clean, food great.
This hotel is exactly what it says it is an escape. Not much to do there at and no transportation. It was very expensive to travel around the island taxi cost a fortune. Best to have a hired car to get around.
My mother in law and her partner did have a good time staying there though.
- Haysav (10/5): An excellent Escape to Nonsuch Bay Antigua - We returned on Sunday from an excellent week at The Escape at Nonsuch Bay Antigua. It was a truly fabulous stay, proving to be a most enjoyable getaway that certainly met our expectations. We wanted an escape and we got it. From the moment we arrived, we found ourselves in a wonderfully welcoming atmosphere, which allowed us to settle in and relax almost immediately.
The staff team at The Escape were excellent. Every member we met was genuinely welcoming, attentive, and seemed keen to ensure our comfort. Their friendly demeanour and helpfulness certainly enhanced our stay, contributing to a very relaxed environment.
The location itself is wonderfully situated in the tranquil Nonsuch Bay, it was a bonus for us to be tucked away so quietly. The resort offers lovely views and a peaceful ambiance that's perfect for unwinding. If you're looking for a proper break from the daily routine, this spot is ideal.
Food was good and always plenty available. The bar was great with a fabulous selection of cocktails.
Our room was a really comfortable and stylish space, the beds were particularly relaxing. We loved using the plunge pool on the very hot afternoons and just chilling together with an occasional trip to the bar for drinks.
Beyond the resort, the trips to Green Island for snorkelling with turtles were a definite highlight. Swimming alongside these creatures was a memorable experience and the beach feels untouched. For the hotel beach, the convenience of the speedboat shuttle made beach excursions wonderfully easy.
The Escape is a fabulous destination with a great team for anyone seeking a relaxing and comfortable escape.

- robertbH3359FB (4/5): Very disappointed! - Unfortunately this resort proved to be very disappointing.
They have a very serious Mosquito issue it absolutely ruined our holiday. You couldn’t sit at the Bar or in the Restaurant/Pool Area for any length of time without being eaten alive. I ended up spending the vast majority of the holiday in my room to avoid the mosquitoes so couldn’t even use the room pool/sunbed area without being bitten. One fellow guest showed us bites on her legs and said she’d counted 60 bites all over her body and she’d been there 3 days.
The room was well maintained and cleaned every 2 days and benefited from A/C and a TV without any channels available to view.
The food was poor and meagre portions, although the Chef did well to make the best of the basic ingredients available to him. (don’t expect anything except pork, chicken, fish or the default Burger) Given the quality of the fare on offer, I wasn’t prepared to risk paying an extra $38 for a steak or Lobster (which we were advised was out of season)Why is it even on the menu? Service ranged from friendly and pleasant to grudging and blunt, the latter from staff who clearly didn’t enjoy their job.
Somehow they managed to run out of tomatoes for 4 straight days and Sprite and their feature Burger on another day, despite the resort being relatively quiet?
The Pool/Bar/Restaurant area is in need of significant refreshing and gives the impression of being tired and uncared for with heavily worn mattresses on the Sun loungers. I have several years experience in Hospitality and have been fortunate enough to travel around the globe and always try to be objective and fair in any reviews. Sadly, this was one of my most disappointing vacations and I felt vexed for my wife who booked the resort in good faith. I cannot recommend The Escape to anyone on the back of our experience.
- Ellie30York (10/5): Amazing hotel. - We stayed at Escape by Nonsuch in June/July for 2 weeks. What an amazing place! The staff are so welcoming and friendly, the rooms are beautiful and the food delicious.
The hotel grounds are beautiful and views stunning. Lots of wildlife to enjoy watching.
The reception team really looked after us and even remembered our wedding anniversary! Also a special mention to Maxine and Charles in the restaurant and bar, who were always smiling and happy to see us.
The hotel, as the name suggests, is slightly out of the way, which we knew before we booked it, but this is what we wanted, a quiet relaxing holiday.. The beach is a 10 min walk away. It is up a steep hill, so if you prefer you can get the boat taxi to take you round there.
We visited Green Island twice and snorkelled with Turtles with a guide during one trip. We also visited Shirley Heights on a Thursday evening, which was great fun. Reception arranged all these trips for us.
Overall I’d highly recommend this hotel, especially if you want a romantic, quiet holiday, away from it all. We really could t have asked for more! Thank you Team Escape.
- D9162ZBpaulg (10/5): GREAT ESCAPE - We visited ESCAPE, with my sister and brother in law, for my wife and my 47th wedding anniversary and had an amazing time.
The hotel is in the middle of no where, so to visit any of Antigua's attractions is a bit of a trek, but don't let that put you off as you would be missing an absolute gem.
The staff are fabulous and provided more than just great service, I have intentionally not named any one member, as I would be having to name them all! , they made us all feel welcome and important, and presented my wife and I with a hand written card on our anniversary a gesture we will cherish.
The hotel is situated by a mangrove so the mozzies were a bit of a problem so take some repellent and all will be fine.
The food was all al a cart, so you ordered breakfast, lunch and dinner from a menu that changed daily, and was expertly prepared by the chefs and all very tasty.
Our room was a garden view room, which was modern, comfortable and came with a private plunge pool and lovely views over the gardens towards the sea , it was cleaned ever other day and was immaculate.
We practically never stay at a hotel twice, as we like to visit different areas of a destination, but I think ESCAPE may be different when we come back to Antigua, which no doubt we will as the experience was so good.
- smalljay32 (10/5): Escape at Nonsuch Bay – A Tranquil Getaway with Heartfelt Hospitality - From the moment I arrived at Escape at Nonsuch Bay, I felt warmly welcomed. Maya, the lovely receptionist, truly set the tone for my stay. She was informative, friendly and always full of great energy. Whether it was answering questions or simply offering a smile, Maya was consistently helpful – she’s a natural in hospitality and made me feel right at home.
As an Expedia Gold member, I appreciated the perks – 20% off food, drinks, and spa services definitely added value to the experience.
A big thank you to Van Dyke, who helped me settle into my room with a tour and assistance with my luggage. His friendly chats and constant availability throughout the stay didn’t go unnoticed!
The room lived up to expectations – just like the photos. Spacious, with a super comfy bed, a convenient kitchenette, and a dreamy private plunge pool (honestly, my main reason for booking – and totally worth it!). Housekeeping came every two days, and the room was kept immaculate. Just a heads up: the plunge pool area can attract mosquitoes and the occasional critter, so come prepared.
The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained. I was greeted warmly at every meal by the amazing staff – special shoutouts to Maxine, Naisha, and Hannah, who were always cheerful, polite, and brought a lovely energy to each dining experience.
Only criticism would be that the food could use more variety, stronger flavours, and slightly larger portions but I did love the food on the Wednesday Carribean Night.
I recommend two shuttle excursions that the resort offer ($25 return each) – one to Green Island for a secluded beach day, and one to Shirley Heights for incredible sunset views and a lively atmosphere. Both are fantastic ways to break up the seclusion of the resort, which is otherwise fairly remote.
I also treated myself to two massages, which were absolutely relaxing – a perfect way to unwind in such a serene setting.
The floating breakfast was a highlight! I travelled solo but ordered enough for two and had no regrets – such a fun and satisfying experience.
Room for Improvement:
• Spa services are a treat, but more competitive pricing would be appreciated.
• An on-site ATM would be convenient.
• Some evening entertainment would go a long way – it was a bit too quiet some nights.
Overall, Escape at Nonsuch Bay is a beautiful, peaceful resort with rooms that truly match the pictures, standout hospitality, and great amenities. A few tweaks could make it perfect, but it certainly lived up to my expectations. Would happily return!
- AdellaH2 (6/5): Very relaxing but could do with improvement? - The rooms and plunge pool are lovely best part of the hotel.
You have to walk to the beach which is very steep in parts. At the moment they have a big problem with seaweed which does not smell good and means you can’t really swim in it?
The pool area is quite tired looking and could really do with some new loungers.
The food was good most days but sadly the staff (apart from Maxine) did not seem happy in their work which was a shock for us as it was our third visit to Antigua and we have always said how amazing and friendly all the staff were? Unfortunately, not the case here.
If travelling to this hotel I would recommend hiring a car as you will want to go to the west side of the island to visit the lovely beaches.
- wedge012 (10/5): The Complete Getaway - Arrival after around 16 hours travel, reception staff warm and friendly ,then they hit you with the dreaded on-line check-in, do not despair the staff are great and understand you are tired and are there to help.
Off to our rooms with the help of Randy ,we are in ground floor Room 3504 with a lovely Garden view. Downside for me certainly was a slope and steps to reach the room, something i think needs highlighting on website and with whoever you book with, FOR PEOPLE WITH MOBILITY ISSUES. The room itself was spacious, super-king bed, large shower area, his and hers sinks ,mirrors and w/c. Little kitchen area had a fridge, milk ,tea and coffee all supplied and replenished on asking. Wardrobe with hangers and shelves also low down was your digital safe(some might say too low) TV but no channels as was a smart TV so you use your own Netflixs ,prime etc, etc.
Beyond the double sliding doors was your outside bath tub and your very own plunge pool(big enough for a couple of strokes) No problems with the pools cleanliness (many previous reviews say they are dirty) not Surprisingly we spent a fair bit of time in our 'pond' as we called it.
The main pool are was clean with enough sun beds for the amount of people using the pool , on quite a few days there was only 4 maybe 6 people around during the day. Bar area was again clean with plenty of tables and chairs , again the only downside was the constant mossies and midges (understandable as hotel built next to a mangrove) .The hotel did their best to alleviate this problem by twice weekly FOGGING the entire area.
The beach was accessed via a short speed boat ride from the hotel dock ,good fun . Whilst the beach was very quiet and water warm and safe , the weed or Sargasum did spoil the beauty of it.The beach was part of our All inclusive so that went down very nicely. The speedboat goes to the beach twice a day09:30 returning at 12:30 or 14:30 returning 16:30, you can walk but this is up quite a steep incline and will take around 15 - 20 minutes.
Food, the a la carte all inclusive was great at least 4 choices of mains every night , meat ,fish and veggie and every night the Drift Burger, normally 2 starters and sweets changed daily ,also ice cream.
Lunch was as the evening meal 3 courses .
Breakfast was also very good, fresh fruit salad, yoghurts, croissants etc and then the cooked options ,bacon , eggs 3 or 4 different ways ,sausage .hash browns , tomatoes(any 4 from the above) then toast .coffee or tea and juices. Anyone who moans about the quality and quantity of food needs to get a life .
The restaurant manager Maudrina is a lovely person and treats her staff fantastically ,she runs a tight ship, the bar team also are very friendly and good at what they do, name a cocktail and they will make it brilliantly. Nothing is too much trouble for any of the staff.
Reception team also deserve a mention, sorting out taxis ,car hire , maintenance issues, housekeeping issues all done with a smile.
All things considered this was a fantastic holiday, great little hotel, fantastic staff. Yes it is a way out but we knew that and accepted that, getting a taxi was never a problem, we did our research prior to arrival ,so for all the moaners out there do your research before hand.
Would i go back yes in a heartbeat.

- Marlon (6/5): Good mood when left the resort , irritated mood everything I got back to the resort and was thirsty and had to get up to - The view from the room - Lack of amenities for an all inclusive
(No minibar, no water just an empty fridge, broken iron that leaked water all on clothes, only 1 restaurant with very limited menu options n quality food, no luggage stand, old body wash bottles etc. hair on bed upon arrival which meant those weren’t fresh sheets , no far of room service, the resort offered nothing. Workers had nothing to do because there was nothing to request that the resort offered)
- Having to walk to the reception to get water, especially at night when it’s pitch dark
-
- Solo_traveler46 (8/5): Mixed Experience – Beautiful Property, Poor Service - The property is beautiful and the honeymoon suites with private pools and nice views are definitely the highlight—we really enjoyed the room during our stay. However, the rest of the experience was disappointing. The beach was relaxing but not convenient to get to. There were only two scheduled boat rides per day, and we weren’t informed about them when we arrived. That led us to walk a long, tiring path multiple times, which was difficult especially since my daughter has a foot issue. Service was not good. Staff were not attentive, never went above and beyond, and even forgot a floating tapas and champagne service I requested for our private pool. We skipped lunch that day waiting for it, and all we got was an apology and a few small appetizers. We were also wrongly charged $90 for a taxi ride we never took and had to dispute it at checkout. The food overall was very disappointing—we skipped several meals because we didn’t like it. The room was not thoroughly cleaned, especially the tea and coffee area which was dusty with old sugar and expired teas. The bed was hard, the pillows were uncomfortable, and the comforter was too thin for how cold the AC made the room at night. The drinks at the beach were good, but there weren’t many options, and the beach had a lot of seaweed and felt isolated with nothing much to do nearby. While the property looks great, the poor service, bad food, and lack of comfort made the experience very underwhelming.
- E2614VCroberts (8/5): Best Hotel Room I've Stayed in - Food & Service didn't match - Just had a week stay 10th - 17th May
We had a great time even though there were things that could be improved.
Our room was brilliant, probably the best hotel room we've ever stayed in. The room was clean and the plunge pool amazing.
Food choices were limited, for example 2 choices for starters, 3 for main (1 of which was a burger every day). With such limited choice, you would expect that the food would be exceptional. The food was edible, I would say average. The feta salad came without and feta. The bacon salad was the same. The Antiguan pork rice bowl had bones in it and I nearly broke a tooth. Be careful with the salad in general if you have a weak gut. I think it was washed with tap water. 4 days of "eye and needle" followed for me, but not my wife, who obviously has a stronger constitution than me.
Check in was fine, we didn't mind scanning a QR code and doing it that way. We were given rum punch whilst we did it, whats not to like.
Service for meals and at the bar was largely fine. There were 2 members of the team who clearly didn't want to be there (possibly agency as we only saw them a couple of days), they'd clearly missed the memo about being in the service industry. They couldn't smile. I think our second lunch, we'd booked for 1pm. By 1.50pm we'd been served our starter only and had waited 30 minutes for a drink, all whilst watching other guests come and go having eaten a 3 course meal in the same period.
What they really need is a maître d'hôtel to take the lead/control of the restaurant and bar staff, give them some direction.
Maurdina, Naisha, Maxine, Charles and one of the younger waitresses were particularly brilliant and should be acknowledged as being so, not to be tarnished by the 1 or 2 that let the side down.
I think the bar was meant to stay open until 10.30pm. One evening I went to the bar at around 9.20 to get a drink and was told all the glasses had been packed away and it was paper cups only. I went back for a refill at 9.35pm, my two paper cups were filled to the brim with prosecco and I was told the bar was now closed for the evening.
Take bug repellent with you. They do sell it, but I didn't twig until the last day.
Research when you go to Antigua, as in when is the best time to go. I think there had been a massive growth of sea weed (outside the hotels control obviously). The clear blue waters were missing sadly.
With regards to the mosquitos, I did read something about fumigation. One Friday I think it was, I thought that the grounds maintenance pick up truck had a broken engine. The deck beside the pool filled with smoke. None of the guests knew was going on. Turns out it was the fumigation, it would have been nice if the team on the front desk had told us what was about to happen so we could have temporarily moved.
We loved the isolation of the location, but to get a taxi anywhere was $160 USD. We decided not to take any outings. If you want to do more than arrive and flop, have a think about whether this is the best location for you. Its about 30 to 40 minutes to get to any of the tourist destinations we were told.
This could be an excellent hotel, and it would be if the service and food matched the quality of the location and quality of the rooms.
- Michaiah (1/5): Bad -
- OSaruJr (10/5): What a wonderfully relaxing 7 days in Antigua - My wife and I just spent the most relaxing 7 day vacation we have ever had. All the staff (Maxine and Charles, especially) was wonderful to interact with on a daily.
The plunge pool outside our room was a wonderful place to relax after hiking over to the beach and back. The hike to the beach was not too bad, approx 16 mins up over the "hill" between the resort and the residency side of the property.
The meals were well coordinated and menu changed daily for all meals. I would recommend mosquitoe repellant (just in case). The mosquitoes were not bad on a daily but a couple nights were a little annoying.
I would also recommend meeting "Captian" Devon (from Heaven - his words. LoL) and booking the Snorkel with the Sea Trutles over at Green Island. The Reggae Rum Cruise with him was also very enjoyable for a couple (Champagne, Rum Punch, a Fruit Tray were included)
Overall, wonderful experience and I would highly recommend The Escape at Nonsuch Bay if you are looking for a relaxing adult only all inclusive resort.
- SueM809 (2/5): Caution!! Poor service, Dirty pools and food quality poor - Just returned and only didn’t 2 night out of seven not what we were expecting and BA are clearly unaware of the issues here.
We have stayed at Nonsuch residences 3 times 2016-2019 and had a wonderful time the food was amazing, staff were very friendly and the beach was beautiful and we learned to dinghy sail. In 2019 the Escsoe had opened and we were encouraged to eat at the The Escape, some of the staff had moved there snd it was lovely and had the same vibe as the residences. Sadly Covid came and the residences were no longer offering All inclusive and the focus was on the Escape. We finally booked to go to this delightful quiet tranquil hotel early May.
We arrived on 3rd May very excited to be back. Our excitement was thwarted on check-in. Miserable front of house told us to scan a code and the details will be sent by email about the hotel! That was it no orientation no how was your journey, she just wanted us to disappear as soon as possible.
The room was as expected and nice but things are starting to need repair. Then we went to the plunge pool on the balcony. The pool was dirty no filters took and slime on the side walls. It’s a health hazard and we did not and could not use it.
We went to get a drink after a long flight snd had to wait for the one member of bar staff to finish her rant about someone to a colleague on the restaurant before her turning and saying “ what do you want” we were taken back by the rudeness and how this lovely hotel has become an unpleasant place to signs your holiday.
We then walked to the beach, well we were shocked by the smell and the brown thick seaweed that has overtaken the bay. It was once a beautiful bay we swam and sailed in but now a smelly unusable beach.
Dinner our first and only dinner was rushed, poor quality of food and again rude staff. We left not eating much and very disheartened.
First morning we went to the main pool but could not use the pool as it was so murky you could not see the bottom of the pool. Pools should be clear and smell of some chlorine, yet again no filtration. Breakfast is awful, who wants a full English every day ! You can also only pick 4 items! There is no fresh fruit and it feels like they are cutting back on costs. We had lunch and only one choice of a dessert! This is meant to be a 5 star boutique hotel!! I asked if there was ice cream and got a sharp “No” by a waitress that was literally dripping sweat on the table and her uniform was dirty. A few minutes later another staff member came over and offered white chocolate I cream which I was very grateful for.
Rooms are now only cleaned every other day! Again cutting costs! Not what we paid for! If you want to keep your room on if you need a late check out there is a cost which we accept but no offer of changing facilities if not.
Having soent only 18 hours at the hotel we made a complaint and asked to see the manager she was not in until later in the afternoon but did her research and then came to our room to meet with us.
She is new and clearly not aware of the previous standard of service and how it used to be managed back in 2019. All the staff that were previously there all but one have left. The staff make the hotel and right now it’s not a hotel that can deliver a service., quality food or indeed a clean pool or a beach.
We had to pay to go to another hotel as BA did not have anything available other than one hotel which would have been another £1400 when we had already paid thousands for our all inclusive holiday. We wasted hours trying to sort out the issue and then the cost of moving to another hotel. The transfer cost was not even offered by the hotel.
BA and the hotel agreed to refund our unused nights but that would take a few days. So another expensive outlay on top of us now having to pay for our food and drinks.
We did find a lovely hotel which was room only on Dickenson Bay, not a lot was available. We were very lucky as the front of house used to work at Nonsuch residences and the warm welcome and upgrade and complimentary late check out was just so kind. That’s what you call customer service!
Please be cautious when looking to book at The Escape, it’s not the hotel it used to be and honestly we are sad that it has fallen from being such a wonderful hotel to being so poorly run and the staff need to learn customer service skills.
We do hope it will put right all the issues. Sadly we will not return. It was our 18th visit to Antigua and if you visit do go and eat at The Hut on Little Jumby and go to prickly pear island too. Both beautiful. The manager that used to run The Escape at Nonsuch now owns her own restaurant Fox House near Jolly Beach. We had an amazing meal there and the service was exceptional of course because her team followed her ! So it’s a must if you want authentic Caribbean food
I would like to finish this review by praising the manager for her professionalism in the way she dealt with our complaint. We hope she can turn the hotel around back to its glory.
- Brewer524 (4/5): You decide, but be informed and focus on what you find to be the most fulfilling at an AI resort. - Others may disagree, however this is our take from a week long stay which we just returned from. We are not saying not to go, just make sure your travel preferences are met. Caveat emptor!
Overall Impressions below:
Pro's:
*Friendly Staff
*Beautiful view
*Comfortable bed
*Private splash pool in each room.
* Bath tub on the outdoor balcony.
*Great couples massage.
Con's:
*Beach isn't on the immediate property.
*The seaweed at the beach was bad, it was kept back by a boom system, but the smell was terrible most of the time.
*Food selection is minimal, quality is poor, portions are small. Tea time snacks were horrible in choice, quality and quantity (We had a car and went to the store to buy snacks so we weren't hungry). BTW, we are fairly fit and not foodies.
* There is only one restaurant. It is outdoors and not screened. There are a fair amount of mosquitoes. At breakfast and lunch the number of birds are numerous enough as to be an annoyance.
*The bar is ridiculous, no top shelf. One vodka out of a box. No tequila at beach bar
*While friendly, the staff is slow and it took numerous requests to get towels.
*The in-room mini bar consisted of two cans of beer and a small bottle of local rum. The soda's and mixers were never restocked.
*The splash pool wasn't well
maintained. There was a type of algae at the bottom by the end of our stay. It has a poor design (no bottom drain). This was very disappointing, as the splash pool was the draw for us.
*The in-room coffee cups and dishes appeared to have been poorly hand washed.
You Decide:
*Very quite
*No nightlife
*A lot of stairs, uphill walking etc.
* There wasn't a hot tub
*No stairs or ladder for the pool (You hoist yourself up from the deeper level to the shallow level).
*It is in the middle of nowhere, 30 to 45 minutes to almost everything (Half Moon Bay being an exception).
*Local roads are in horrible condition.
*The door to the toilet room was made of glass and didn't go to the ceiling. So when your significant other is in there, privacy isn't existent.
- Bakewell59 (10/5): Paradise at The Escape Nonsuch Bay. - We stayed at the escape nonsuch bay Antigua. The accommodation was stunning, I would recommend a first floor room to fully enjoy the beautiful views. The room was immaculate and cleaned and restocked as requested. The staff were polite and attentive. The excursions I thought were a little expensive so we hired a car, the roads are a little precarious with several potholes but this didn’t bother us. We visited Nelson’s dockyard, Shirley Heights, Saint Johns and Devils point. I recommend visiting all to experience the culture and history of the island. Everyone we met was friendly. Antigua has 365 beaches and in our 10 day stay we managed to visit 12, all of which were stunning. There is a beach near the escape about a 10 minute walk encountering a hill walk but it was fine. The beach has a bar, the water has quite a lot of seaweed on one side, minimal seaweed on the first part of the beach.
The restaurant at the escape was very nice, however, if you have a fear of birds maybe not for you. The birds frequent the restaurant at breakfast and lunch times but we expected this as it is a tropical island after all. The food was good, portions perhaps a little small if you’re a big eater but you can ask for more. The staff catered very well for my vegan diet and the afternoon snacks by the pool were delicious. The pool was lovely with adequate sun beds and towels provided at reception.
I had read the plunge pool in the rooms were cold but I didn’t find ours particularly cold and you can always warm up in the large bath in your room. Just to note the floating breakfast and petal bath is an additional fee.
We absolutely loved our stay at the escape and would thoroughly recommend.
Thank you to all of the wonderful staff.
- Librarian39 (10/5): A wonderful escape to The Escape - The Escape is a wonderful resort. The rooms look exactly like they do in the pictures and the staff cannot do enough for you. The plunge pool was refreshing. Housekeeping is every other day.
The beach is a short walk over a hill (10 minutes ish but you need to be fit as it’s steep) or there is a free boat shuttle that you book the day before. The beach bar is part of the all inclusive and serves Banks beer, cocktails, spirits, wine and soft drinks. They were no longer offering food here when we visited.
The restaurant is all a la carte, the menu for breakfast, lunch and dinner changes daily but always has staples at breakfast alongside specials and cheeseburger for lunch and dinner alongside two other dishes. We enjoyed the food, it was all tasty and beautifully presented.
The bar is between the restaurant and the pool, it is open 10am to 10pm. It serves draft Carib beer plus all the other options from the Beach Bar.
The pool is small but we always found a bed when we wanted one, the last few days of our break a lot more smokers turned up - including one group of 4 Americans smoking weed around the pool which wasn’t pleasant. It’s a shame that there isn’t a separate area for smokers but I guess there is not enough room.
The dock area has 3 additional seating areas which were nice for some private sun bathing.
We booked a taxis from reception to Half Moon Bay and Ffryes Beach, they are quite pricey but standard for the island. We also took a boat trip to Green Island with Devon for $25 pp and the shuttle to Shirley’s Heights for $15 pp. All of these were enjoyable experiences.
There are lots of different birds around the site and we saw plenty of mongoose and lizards in the mangroves.
There is very little entertainment at the hotel, a couple of nights there was dinner music and we saw adverts for steel pan lessons and yoga but didn’t see them happen (we weren’t
looking though).
If you are party animals this isn’t the resort for you but if you are looking for a relaxing couples break then I highly recommended the Escape.
- 173gayh (10/5): Sweet Secret - I have never been on such a serene vacation. The view was amazing and the room with its personal splash pool made it easy t o relax. The staff was , the trip and driver to St Johns was so amazing that my husband and I are already looking into going again.
- richardeO7599VO (10/5): Highly recommend Escape to experience a remote, small and intimate vibe with outstanding service. - Escape is set in a beautiful location with outstanding views across the bay. The hotel is remote which adds to the ultimate place to relax and unwind. The bay view rooms are well appointed and offer unlimited views and privacy with plunge pool on the good sized terrace. It’s convenient to collect cocktails from the bar for the room with tray provided if you so wish. The rooms are serviced daily by a very effective and flexible team.
The food in the restaurant was consistently good from breakfast to dinner. The service and friendliness from the staff was excellent making every meal special. The team on the reception were welcoming, helpful and efficient with all our needs.
Two trips we recommend are the three hour taxi tours, one visiting Shirley Heights and English Harbour the other to Devils Bridge, Betty’s Hope sugar plantation and Half Moon Bay, all organised by reception. Our trip was a special celebration heightened by the team’s special touches. We also booked lunch at The Reef, Green Island online (open November to April) with a complimentary water taxi from The Nonsuch Bay Dock. The experience was outstanding with incredible service and food albeit at prices deserving of the restaurant.
A steep 15 minute walk to the pretty beach before lunch is well worth it, with nice seats in the shade next to the beach bar.
We would highly recommend the Escape resort if you want to experience a remote, small and intimate vibe with outstanding service.
