• CanterburyPilgrim (1/5): My worst Booking experience EVER - Nothing I’d preface this by saying I’m nearly 75 and use a walking stick . . . Words cannot describe how disappointed I was with my apartment in Barcelona. It seems that, while there are a lot of pretty photos on the website you cannot be sure which apartment you will be staying in – Flateli cover this by saying that they have a lot of apartments in Barcelona. My daughter calls it “bait and switch” – you will not find out where you are staying until you get there! It is interesting that, when you DO know where it is, if you click on the pin on Booking.com’s map the thumbnail you get is NOT this apartment! The confirmation from Booking indicated that the apartment would be in Eixample, 08010 Barcelona. In fact I was given one at Carrer de Bonavista, 7, Gràcia, 08012 Barcelona about 1.5km further out. My train from Avignon was delayed and I advised the company that I would be about an hour later than thought. I asked for the address and was told “Bonavista 7”. A search on Google Maps brought up numerous possible sites across the city but, when pressed, they eventually sent me a dropped pin. When I arrived at the location I waited outside for 30 minutes and, just as it started to rain, an agent turned up, asked me if I was there about the apartment and led me in. Inside he indicated the Wifi password, told me to leave the keys in the dish when I left and then quickly departed. The property is quite stark. There are 5 steps up to the front door, two steps down into the property and a further two steps down into the shower room (old man with a walking stick, remember?) There are no bedrooms; there are no beds, just a couple of mattresses on the floor of steel platforms. To get to them you need to climb some precarious steel stairs and then ease onto the mattress – beware the protruding steel bar you need to crawl over! Coming down is even worse – the bottom step is about 40 cm off of the floor and can take you by surprise. To get dressed/ready for bed you would need to do it down stairs as there is no headroom over the mattresses. Clothes storage is minimal: a small cupboard and a hanging rail such as you find in clothing stores – fortunately I was only staying for 2 nights. There is a picture on the web which seems to show light coming in through a window. Do not be fooled – it comes from a dingy ventilation shaft. There are no real windows as such – you need to keep the lights on all of the time as you are staying in what is essentially a cellar on the ground floor. Housekeeping was minimal – the main dehumidifier was full of water, the other had a clogged air filter. There were two lumps of very stale bread in one of the cupboards. I checked for signs of mice but didn’t see any. Spare plates are in a cupboard 2m above ground, wine glasses are even higher. There is a folding step-up but I didn’t wish to risk it. There is nowhere comfortable to sit: dining is off of 4 mismatched bar stools; there are two hard plastic chairs, another chair and an incredibly low, soft and quite grubby sofa which looks like it might have been dragged in off of the street. Surely there must be some good points? The sheets were clean, the shower hot and powerful and it is conveniently situated for the Diagonal metro station. Carrer de Bonavista, 7, Gràcia, 08012 Barcelona, Spain – you really do NOT want to stay there.

• Francesco (1/5): Peggior esperienza di sempre - Nulla Le foto dell’annuncio non rappresentavano minimamente la condizioni reali dell’appartamento che ci è stato fornito dall’agenzia. Dopo aver pagato 200€ a notte siamo trovati in un seminterrato in condizioni igienico/sanitarie inaccettabili, moquette lercia, muri macchiati ovunque da infiltrazioni, muffa e ruggine in bagno, qualsiasi mobile era rovinato o sporco e i letti erano dei materassi appoggiati direttamente sulla moquette sopra un soppalco. Mai trovato un degrado del genere. Non appena accorti della situazione abbiamo scritto alla struttura non chiedendo alcun rimborso ma semplicemente un cambio di alloggio allegando foto delle condizioni, ci hanno detto che essendo domenica avrebbero risolto il giorno dopo fornendoci un’altra sistemazione. Il giorno hanno ritrattato dicendo che si trattava semplicemente di “nostre aspettative estetiche non soddisfatte” e che loro non potevano farci nulla. Siamo stati costretti a trovarci un hotel e ripagarci tutto in autonomia rovinandoci la vacanza. Dopo due giorni di telefonate e messaggi siamo riusciti solo grazie a Booking a ottenere un 20% di quanto pagato alla struttura in origine (più di mille euro), loro non ci hanno più risposto. By email I was told that they will send a technician though I was on vacation so I couldn’t stay at the apartment waiting for him… I needed the tv during night time and I never got it. What bothers me is that the host was very insistent in collect a tax at my arrival though when I got the tv issue he never responded Another thing the apartment was a different one that the one published in the photos. They gave me a lower quality than the one I paid for in the photos

The appartment is large and really well equipped, with a view of the square underneath. Comfortable but small double bed. There's a very fine bakery right next to the entrance to the building, and lots of shops with supplies around. Needs better maintenance, shows significant signs of wear (floor especially). Misleading appartment location, not immediately clear until you look at the picture showing different locations of other appartments with the same name. It seems final locations are assigned randomly. Complicated and unnecessary check-in process must be completed before arrival.

• Natalex7 (1/5): Misleading location, poor hygiene, and maintenance issues - The location was near the metro, which was convenient for getting around the city. The facilities were generally adequate. However, the location was not at Plaça Catalunya as advertised and expected based on the listing's reviews and map. Completely misleading location. The listing shows "Excellent location 9.1" with all reviews and map pointing to central Barcelona near Plaça Catalunya/Gran Via. After payment, I was assigned an apartment at Bonavista 7 – a completely different area, far from the advertised central location. Major problems: The apartment had a terrible drainage smell from day 1 – the kind you might encounter on the street, but you definitely don't expect it inside your room. This made the stay very uncomfortable. Additionally, during the rain, the ceiling in the hallway was leaking, which was both concerning and uncomfortable. These hygiene and maintenance issues seriously affected our experience and are completely unacceptable for a paid accommodation.

La habitación de las 2 camas individuales es muy pequeña para 2 personas, las camas son estrechas y casi pegadas sin posibilidad de armario, teniendo que dejar las maletas fuera.

• Ziyad (7/5): Great for families and first timers - This is my fourth time in Barcelona, the Location of Balmas 8 was the best i have ever stayed in, a lot of coffee shops and restaurants nearby, la ramblas was 2 minutes walk & very suitable for people whom are planning shopping, the balcony was great and you get a morning sunlight. The property has an elevator which was a great as i have 7 suit cases with me. The check in process was pain in the a*s, i need to register everyone of the family in a website and i will need to send and read multiple emails from the company manages this property. I have been asked to inform someone with the exact time of arrival to the property to avoid staying outside. I have been asked pay a fee in cash of a total of 82€, i gave the representative a 100€ he didn’t have change!! So i was forced to go to the shops below buying water that i don’t need to pay the exact amount to the representative, as the representative said people usually give him the exact amount which means this might be my problem i guess?

• Cathala (10/5): Appartement tout confort idéalement situé - L'appartement est idéalement situé à 5 min des ramblas et 15 min des maisons gaudi. Il est spacieux: 2 chambres de grandes tailles, un salon agréable avec une cuisine équipée et une grande salle de bain avec baignoire balnéothérapie. Tout confort et très bien équipé. On était 4 et on avait pas l'impression d'être l'un sur l'autre. Il n'y a pas de système pour laisser les bagages quand on arrive avant 14h ou quand on quitte à 11h mais présence de consigne à bagages à proximité mais payantes

• Fahad (10/5): Exceptional - I had a wonderful stay at this apartment! The location is excellent, close to major attractions and easy to access. The apartment itself was clean, well-equipped, and very comfortable. The host was incredibly welcoming, responsive, and made sure everything was perfect during my stay. I highly recommend this place to anyone visiting Barcelona!

For cooking there is only a microwave, so limits usefulness of kitchen. Metal shutters in living room didn’t open last day. Sofa bed had an issue opening.

• Glenn (9/5): Old apt but very clean and tastefully decorated, making me feel living like a local. - Good location-Walking distances to many attractions; well decorated and spacious rooms; old but very clean with full kitchen to use; washer in house Had to pay a hefty fee for arriving late. Could have made the checkin digital instead.
• Ivgen (8/5): Very good - Location was excellent. apartment is located in a very nice classy building right in the center but with local restaurants and cafes surrounded. apartment has all basics to make your stay comfortable. kitchenette has all tools and equipment. well design tiny apartment which creates enough space for 3 people. apartment needs some maintenance; better isolated windows are needed to minimize the sound coming from the street. Also the fridge makes a lot of sound and it is not comfortable for the person sleeping on the bed-sofa.
• Philippe (3/5): intransparent extra charges, cash only - At least I could enter the apartment and the night shift to administrate my late check in was very kind and helpful. And there was coffee. A variety of negative surprises around extra charges for late check in. The cost description was very intransparent and inconsistent. The venue had no proper daylight and was extremely humid which resulted in moist towels. There was no comfortable seat in the apartment and the bed was a nightmare.

• Karen (10/5): This property definitely has the best location when visiting Barcelona - The location of this property was supreme! It was near all the shopping! The place was clean and staff communication was top notch. They even let us check in an hour earlier than 3pm (well we arrived in BCN at 7am!). They recommended LockerBarcelona for storage and I used them twice in this trip! The dryer filter was wet and dirty. It didn’t dry our clothes properly. There were no extra silverware and plates for a party of six. (Some plates & glasses had cracks on them. We had to wash dishes as we went. Kitchen could use a chopping board too.

• Jill (7/5): A short 4 day break, good location in the heart of the bustling busy Barcelona - Central location just minutes from Les Rambles, ample size for the 4 of us, large bathroom with bath & shower & toiletries Crockery chipped on quite alot of the items, which didn`t impress me! Balcony tiny , enough room for 2 people which overlooked very close neighbours & their laundry . No view at all. Aircon was good but quite cold & unable to control the temperature when you needed it less chilled. Thought the 30 euro late check in charge was expensive after 22.00 hrs

• Fiona (5/5): Great location but needs some updating and cleaning! - Great location with lots of the sights of Barcelona only within a 15-20 minute walk away. Quiet location. Air conditioning very effective. Lots of space for 2 adults and 2 teenagers. Facilities good with a well equipped kitchen, dish washer, washing machine, coffee maker, tea , coffee, sugar provided, and toiletries provided too. Photos make the property look a lot bigger and more luxurious than it is! The second bedroom is no more than a cupboard with 2 beds and no natural light! The property needs updating and maintenance done on it. No wall lights worked in the lounge, the bathroom door didn’t close properly, the bedroom window didn’t open, some of the kitchen drawers easily fell off the runners, no walk in shower only a shower head above bath. Balcony very small with pigeon droppings. ‘Balcony furniture’ consisted of only two very small flimsy chairs and no table. The apartment overall felt like it needed a really deep clean as although on the surface appeared clean the tiled floor was dirty. The guy that checked us in also tried to charge us €30 late check in fee even though we ensured we arrived at 19.55 ( this was a rush as our flight was delayed). Haven’t through the check in procedures inside etc and then when finished which was around 20:05. He then said oh and now you need to pay the late check in fee as it’s after 8 pm. We argued that we arrived before 8 and he in the end reluctantly agreed to not charge us. Not a nice start to our holiday!
