Guest Reviews
- Marieanne (9/5): - Spacious and light apartment in a fantastic location.
- thomas (1/5): We were unable to gain access to the property and did not see inside. We waited outside the property for over one hour a - I attended the property but did not go inside because the house did not give me keys or information to gain access to the property. We were unable to see inside the property or use the facilities. We were unable to gain access to the property or see inside the property because they Agents, did not give us the information to gain access to the property.
- Juergen (10/5): -
- Picknell (8/5): - Entrance key was super difficult to get in with but not the hosts fault
- David (10/5): London-Gefühl pur - Tolle Lage, schöner Balkon, angenehme Einrichtung, schöne Aussicht auf die Stadt
- Eleonora Claudia (8/5): -
- Petteri (10/5): -
- Silvia (7/5): - La posizione,la vista dalla terrazza e la cucina accessoriata La struttura non è per 4 persone perchè il divano letto è scomodissimo. Gli infissi andrebbero sistemati e la casa è rumorosa
- Antonia (9/5): -
- Nicola (8/5): -
- Pavol (8/5): Very good -
- Michelle (8/5): Cute 1-Bd/1-Bath Apartment/Flat. Not a penthouse - NO LIFT - The space was nice. We didn't use the full kitchen facilities - only the electric kettle, coffee maker and put a few drinks in the refrigerator.
Had a good view of some of the skyline. especially at night. Bed was comfortable.
Lots of fluffy towels and a great pillowtop mattress cover for the futon/pull out sofa bed. No lift. Really should be noted in the property discription. People with bad knèes or limited mobility would have issues. Four stories with luggage can be a bear. Krys (who met us to let us in) did help us move the luggage up. Of course I noticed others mentioned this in reviews AFTER (my bad) but it should be noted.
I also noticed the handles on drawers and closet doors hasn't been addressed yet. As I mentioned, we didn't use the kitchen facilities - but it was weird to have to open the refrigerator if you wanted to open the drawer for flatware - no handles, so I had to open the refrigerator to get a fingertip in the drawer top to open.
Balcony didn't have pergola (cover) or cushions as in the photos. Cobwebs and debris on the balcony, but it's outdoors and still early in the spring so maybe that's why no cushions and it wasn't very tidy.
It looked like a new television was delivered, but was leaning against the wall still in the box. My husband was going to hook it up and put the smaller one in the bedroom, but we just left it as it was and thought it was peculiar.
No plugs in bathroom... Also not a washcloth to be found. I used a hand towel the first night, then ended up buying a wash cloth at M & S the next day. Using a hand towel as a wash cloth was a bit heavy and comical.
Shower seemed unsafe. Very slick and gloss tile with no grab bars. I nearly fell through the shared window with the living room. Just wacked my noodle on the window frame and my left knee on the tile floor. (Not great when you have to go down and up 4 flights of stairs). The shower would be better if there was a seat or grab bar... maybe a removable rubber bath mat with grip. if the detachable head didn't leak. It's not a fitting issue, but the head itself that leaks... likely from someone grabbing it like a grab bar.
- Schwartz (8/5): Very good -
- Nikki (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patricia (5/5): Passable - Great location but very noisy all night.
Nicely decorated and a good layout. Very spacious with a little balcony. The second sofa bed is definitely not big enough for 2 people, regardless of whether the host describes it as 'standard size' - not even two slim teenagers could fit comfortably on it.
You cannot turn down the heating in the bedroom and it is sweltering.
The blinds are still broken despite countless other reviews mentioning this and the bathroom lock needs to be fixed and is very difficult to use - also mentioned on many reviews.
The standing lamp in the bedroom gave me an electric shock because the on off switch levers were missing.
I had to chase repeatedly for my pending deposit payment to be cancelled - it took 3 weeks. They didn't even process the cancellation until a week after I checked out.
- Christian (6/5): Pleasant - The location is great I confirm what people before me have written. In addition, it's one of these places where the published photos don't quite match reality
- Donatas (6/5): Good location, but a bit overpriced for the state of the property - Excellent location close to the City and the heart of the hip Shoreditch district. The property itself was clean, the staff friendly and very efficient. The apartment is a bit worn down, not as shiny as it looks in the pictures. The windows are far from soundproof, you can hear all the street noise, especially from nearby bars in the eveneing. The shower head was leaking. The requirement for £500 deposit was quite annoying, given the state of the property.
- Tamara (10/5): Great spacious apartment with balcony and in lovely area of east London - Spacious apartment in a great location close to lots of nice bars and brick lane for great curry houses. Balcony was a huge bonus. Overground and underground stations a few mins walk away Top floor with no lift, not a problem for us but lots of stairs that would be a drawback for some. Also there is building work going on in next door building at the moment that was quite noisy from 8 am onwards
- Mersiovsky (10/5): Amazing apartment in an amazing neighborhood - Marta was a great host. Great communication! Apartment is well located and equipped with everything you need.
- Brian (9/5): Lovely stay, very nice apartment - I had quite an issue getting the keys. I contacted the property a number of times with regards to an earlier check in but didn't get a response. By the time I got to the property I was tired and stressed after a long journey. This lack of communication and issues with getting the key was the last thing I needed and made me very stressed. Fortunately, the woman that greeted me was very nice and very helpful. Only the issues with check in, everything else was great
- Ralph (9/5): Superb -
- Caryn (5/5): The £500 bond is a turn off - wouldn’t book again despite accommodation being ok - Good location and views particularly from the balcony. Bright apartment. £500 security bond charged on top of the accommodation fee - not at all clear at book g point but has to be paid a week ahead of stay. Taken from account and apparently returned 7 days after…. Never come across such a high charge before.
The bed and sofa are standard doubles so tight if you’re used to a more generous bed. Window glazing could be better to reduce noise levels. 6 flights of stairs with no lift - not an issue for us but not for those who are not fit or fully able.
- Niall (9/5): Great location, modern, comfortable and affordable. - Perfect Location, fully equipped with all amenities required.
Modern feel, super comfortable bedding which allowed me to be fresh for the next working day.
The balcony has stunning views of Shoreditch Skyline Accommodation could benefit from the slightest attention to cleanliness but nothing major!
- Maria (9/5): Superb - Flat in an excellent area for cafes etc and walking to central London locations.
Balcony a bonus to enjoy tye summer sunshine Couldn't fault the facilities
- Phillip (10/5): Awesome place. Perfectly located. Great owner, eager to help at any time. - Perfect location. Great security. View from the balcony is quite nice. Great balcony to have drinks. Modern furnishings. Place is close to a nice steak house and other decent restaurants. Internet is a bit slow and place definitely needs a better tv package.
- Paul (10/5): Exceptional -
- Polyxeni (9/5): Great location, amazing view and spacious for a family - Spacious, well-equipped, great view Small couch-definitely not for two-, too sunny if you sleep in the living room
- Chukwudinma (4/5): Disappointing -
- Julie (7/5): Great location and potential..but some deceptions. - The open and wide layout of the apartment.
The location was perfect!
The terrasse and the view were amazing!
Great bed linens and lots of bathroom towels.
Kitchen layout is great and very well equipped!
Very good and wide shower It was a bit beat up. The floor tiles are loose and a lot of them are broken.
The sofa and coffee table were stained. We didn’t want to sit on the sofa.
We had to rewash the cutlery and the drawers were not cleaned. Some full of crumbs.
No handles on cabinet doors and drawers. This is very annoying when you stay over 5 days.
No dish towels provided.
It was clearly mentioned that the location was in a busy and loud area but the windows poor performance made it worse. On the weekend it was impossible to sleep.
- Riad (10/5): Exceptional - Very hospitable and they were also kind in giving me a few extra hours of late check out free of charge. Highly recommend.
- William (7/5): Agents Destination8 T&Cs are disingenuously worded about what is a large deposit requirement. - Great location for Hoxton/Shoreditch etc
Great evening views of the city.
Lots of bath towels/spare bedding I paid a £500 deposit. I was told it would be 'released' on check-out.
At checkout I was told it was released but could take "up to 15 days" to be credited as I used a debit card.
I complained this was not stated and that "released on check-out" implies being credited back the same day. A petty exchange ensued, D8 claimed all was clear in their T&C.
I checked their T&C. It says they will "refund within 48 hrs after the guest's departure.. if not immediately."
No mention of 15 days. Now over 48 hrs and still 'pending'. "Released" is not a banking term. No way would I have booked this place if I had known this.
Bed small. No tea towels. No dishwasher tabs. Very old washing up sponge.
- Ian (10/5): Overall, I highly recommend the D8 Hoxton Penthouse Apartment to anyone looking for a top-notch accommodation with great - I recently had the pleasure of staying at the D8 Hoxton Penthouse Apartment and I must say it was an absolutely fantastic experience. The views from the apartment were breathtaking, offering a stunning panorama of the surrounding area.
The cleanliness of the apartment was impeccable, making me feel right at home from the moment I arrived. Everything was spotless and well-maintained, which added to the overall comfort of my stay.
Moreover, the instructions provided for accessing the apartment and using its amenities were clear, concise, and easy to follow. This attention to detail made the whole experience hassle-free and enjoyable.
Overall, I highly recommend the D8 Hoxton Penthouse Apartment to anyone looking for a top-notch accommodation with great views, cleanliness, and user-friendly instructions. My stay was truly memorable, and I will definitely be returning in the future. Phone call available rather than just WhatsApp messages. Although, WhatsApp is answered quickly
- Mark (8/5): Very good -
- Howard (1/5): Don't waste your time. - Nothing no access details were provided in a timely manner Owner didn't respond to texts and calls
- Clark (10/5): Wonderful stay! - The property was centrally located but also in a quiet area. The apartment was spacious and had amazing facilities such as a washing machine, dishwasher, air fryer, coffee and tea facilities and had amazing views from the balcony. The apartment was clean and decorated nicely. The staff were friendly and accommodating, slight miscommunication about the deposit at first but it was sorted professionally and promptly. The bed was comfortable and even the bedroom views were amazing. I would recommend for couples wanting to get away. Only a 15 minute taxi ride from city central and there are a variety of shops and restaurants within a 5 minute walk of the property. TV was equipped with Netflix, YouTube and IPlayer which was perfect for people like ourselves who don’t watch the normal TV channels. The only downside to the property was that the WI-FI network was slow so it caused the TV to stop and buffer from time to time but as long as your not WI-FI reliant this should be fine! The views make up for the buffering TV anyway.
- Jordan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Grace (10/5): Great we loved it would stay again - me and the girls loved our stay- it was so central and location was perfect. Check in and check out was very simple and all the beds were extremely comfortable. The balcony was lovely and we had a really nice time :) Nothing
- Seve (6/5): Pleasant -
- Elichea (10/5): Amazing I would definitely stay here again - Very clean and has a balcony with a great view! Comfortable living space with a lot of space The stairs lol it’s on the top floor so you do have to do a little bit of walking but other than that it’s everything was great about this place
- Jamal (8/5): Very good -
- Zara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jake (9/5): Superb -
- Jomille (8/5): Nice penthouse to stay in London - We spent New Year's eve here because we want to see the fireworks in London. We were very happy that we were able to see it through the balcony. The penthouse was also complete with all the necessarily cooking utensils in the kitchen. I appreciate that they also have an airfryer and coffee maker. Everything is clean and so far I think we had a great stay. The staff was very responsive even if I raised several concerns at the start, but she kept checking on how was our stay which was very much appreciated. The staff that gave the key also offered to help on the luggage that needs to be brought several flights up the stairs which is also appreciated. At first I was disappointed upon seeing the reviews that it doesn't have a tub as shown in the picture. I was informed that it was taken down eventually when I raised it to avoid misrepresenting the property. Another is the transparency that there is no Elevator. For those who might not be willing to go up the stairs of several flights up to the penthouse especially those who have big luggages, etc. I suggest this should be put in your descrption of the property or something important to note before someone can book it. I also find the £500 deposit too much but I found that it just remained floating in my bank and did not really debited it, so I think it is fine and let it go. Just the minor comments that I saw already in the reviews but has not been fixed yet like the Cabinets/drawers doesn't have handles.
- Ines_88 (9/5): Superb - Location of the appartment is perfect in the heart of Shoreditch while being in a quiet area which is great
Appartement is really big & nicely decorated (the D8 touch)
The bed was very comfortable
The view from the balcony is really awesome especially by night N/A
- Beatrice (3/5): A part from location, I wouldn't stay here again - Location I'm not a fan of writing negative reviews but unfortunately I have no choice for this one as so many things didn't meet our expectations:
- The unjustified hefty £500 deposit which wasn't mentioned anywhere (that I could see) and was requested once the night stay was already paid, so not giving us the chance to then book somewhere else. I've stayed in five stars hotels before and never have been asked for such a hefty deposit, the apartment was nice, but absolutely not worth the £500 deposit which is why we didn't use the kitchen and tried to minimise usage of facilities to avoid losing the deposit.
- The six flights of stairs!
- Really noisy
- The biggest pain point for us was the key collection, I understand that misunderstandings happen, but we kept on being lied to. We had to confirm multiple times our arrival time, we were asked to notify the agency 30 minutes before to allow time for the person to travel and come and meet us which we did and ended up waiting one hour for someone to turn up. Whenever we called the number we kept being told "she's one minute away" to "she's ten minutes away" to "she's had an emergency she's on her way" to "your check in time was 6pm on the portal" after having receiving acknowledgment that 4pm was agreed and confirmed multiple times. When the person with the keys finally showed up she also reiterated that there was a 6pm check in requested which again wasn't true, I have screenshots of conversations where 4pm was agreed. She was also in no emergency as she told us she just got notified that we were waiting. I understand that getting the check in time wrong happens it's just being told different things and being treated like idiots that was really frustrating and unacceptable. We could only live chat or chat via whatsapp and the only phone call we could actually use to speak with someone was the person that kept lying to us.
- Christopher (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lucy (8/5): Nice airy apartment - Good location near Old Street tube.
Nice and light.
But the apartment is nice and spacious. Staff very communicative. I’d say the apartment is much better just for a couple. Our son slept on the sofa bed which was uncomfortable when folded out (it has a big fold down it). It could do with a mattress topper. Also the white blinds let all the light in in the mornings.
It’s 4 floors up, no lift. Bear in mind if you have heavy suitcase.
- Yasha (9/5): Superb - Nice flat and clean. Carolina and Stephania were very kind and helpful
- Zeina (10/5): A place worth its value … very spacious for a London apartment. -
- Robinson (10/5): Had a great stay! Will definitely stay again when back to London! - Great views! Clean and spacious,
- Philip (9/5): Had a awesome time and loved our choice of apartment - Coffee tea milk everything we needed.place was really nice bed was amazing. Shower wasn’t too hot or powerful,tv lacked channels due too no internet connection.
- María (8/5): Very good - The location was excellent, close to lots of restaurants, pubs, shops, good coffee, great transport links.
The terrace is quite nice.
The bathroom was good.
The view is great. The decoration of the flat does not match the pictures - everything was pretty bare, particularly the terrace furniture.
Some of the cabinets are too difficult to open as they are clearly not designed not to have handles.
Water pressure could have been better as well as the temperature of the water.
Towels were clean but a little too worn.
- Nick (7/5): Good - Great location but the flat was a bit tired looking. The balcony was really nice for late afternoon and evening sun and the nightscape views were really nice. No smart tv available, bathroom door had no lock, no lift and the 6 flights of stairs became a pain in the end.
- Ava (6/5): nice enough for one night but needs updating - location and furnishings no bathroom light
too hot in the bedroom
shabby tiles
dirty floor
- Ian (10/5): Stunning and a must!! - spacious, clean, trendy, amazing vibe! the stairs and lighting in the bedroom
- Thomas (8/5): Very good -
- Kate (8/5): Very good -
- Liz (4/5): Noisy. - Views were great. The balcony was an added bonus although the ashtray hadn’t been emptied from previous guests. Main bed was comfortable. It was clean. we expected some noise being in central London but this was extreme. By far the noisiest I’ve ever stayed in, even in a city centre. we felt sure a window must be open somewhere as we could hear all the shouting and drunken rants in the street below and every siren and ‘this vehicle is turning left’! we hunted and found no windows open, so I guess they are just poorly insulated. Teenage daughter was on the sofa bed and woke at 6am due to the light - blinds are very thin and flimsy. we all only got a couple of hours sleep.
We were given the wrong address on WhatsApp and were relying on this message when travelling due to lack of signal. waiting for the person to let us in, pouring rain and eventually discovering we were in completely the wrong place. £10 on a taxi, we weren’t amused. it put our whole schedule out with the wasted time so we weren’t able to change, enjoy a birthday meal etc as we had tickets booked. very annoying. we were offered late check out as an apologia but no use to us as we had a train to catch next morning. the host did not speak English so merely opened the door for us. No instructions, we couldn’t figure out the lights, find any lighting in the stairwell (difficult late night 5 floor climb in the dark!). had to hunt around for the bedding for the sofa bed, there were lots of bags of sheets which appeared to be dirty/used stuffed in the cupboard. Cupboards hard to open as they had no handles. Bathroom lock didn’t work much to my teenage daughter’s horror. But by far the worst thing was the noise which went on literally all night. it felt like there was a street brawl going on in our bedroom!
- Tyler (6/5): Pleasant - There is no drop box or self service for checkin. You are required to notify what time you are expecting to be there, but cannot deviate from this as they require someone to hand the keys over. This was a large room with all of the amenities you need (except working WIFI). The apartment is starting to look a bit tired. Half of the window blinds are broken and dont open meaning the apt is actually quite dark, the sofa is quite tired and has been well used. The old floors are full of cracks. Parts to the kitchen like the dish washer door were starting to come off. The Wifi did not work at all. The bed was comfortable, but the pillows are very thin and not great. There was a tile under the TV that would fall when the vibrations from the shower started. Although a spacious apt, the apt felt a bit dark with half the blinds inoperable.
- Anonymous (9/5): we enjoyed our stay and would surely recommend - great location and great rooftop the water pressure in the shower
- Nicholas (7/5): Needs attention overall - under floor heating. the amount of stairs to get up and down every day with luggage or other stuff.
lighting was very poor throughout the stairwell and apartment. cupboards and drawers have no handles to open them so you did your fingers in the side cracks to open them. internet wasnt great but better than some. Kitchen blind is broken. Door entry system doesn’t work.
- Lawjarra (7/5): Like a Box of Chocolates - All the instructions and communication by the staff on the phone was excellent and created a sense of confidence that it would be the perfect holiday accomodation in London.
Apartment was spacious. Location was fabulous with great resturaunts just a stones throw away. Shops for the basics were also really close. Getting to the nearby Old Street Tube was an easy walk. Staff member simply walked past us at the meeting point and left us waiting 20 minutes before we instigated contact.
Like a box of chocolates. You don-t know what y'all goin to get until you open it up!
The climb up the stairs to the top floor was a tad inconvenient when hauling suitcases (no lift) and not a welcoming sight after trekking about London on foot.
The temperamental lock on front door causes a little bit of anxiety when the key doesn't engage the tumblers and it takes a bit of jiggling to open.(reported by past tenants)
The enticing views from the apartment shown in advert were blocked because of broken blinds (also reported by past tenants). We didn't use stove top because of risk of further damaging the blind and potential threat of not getting full £500 deposit refunded.
A double bed was dissappointing for the upmarket price.
- Ricci (6/5): tired - this is by far the noisiest Aparment I have ever stayed in .
you really need to sort your windows out they do not shut properly and let so much noise threw . we struggled to sleep .
- Leticia (9/5): Amazing views in a well equipped apartment. - Amazing view, very clean and great value for money! The kitchen is greatly equipped! The shower is really big and the location is great :) Some blinds couldn‘t be put up unfortunately and the light switches didn‘t always work the first time.
- Chris (10/5): Exceptional - Location ...space. design, and it was so easy to deal with rgr booking team The front door key and / or lock needs urgent attention as I was unable to gain access when I returned (super late) and had to wake neighbours to open latch ... this was very embarrassing
- Rachel (1/5): Bad -
- Hanspringett (1/5): Bad -
- Shashank (9/5): Amazing location, spacious apartment with excellent views - Excellent location, great balcony with good views. Apartment itself was spacious and very comfortable. The hosts are excellent communicators too! While the apartment is very clean, they might want to consider re-tiling the floors to give it a more modern/cleaner look. The bathroom door also should be changed as it doesn't close perfectly or lock properly. Not necessarily a problem, but to note that this is a walk-up with no lift, so get ready to get your cardio on ;)
- Peter (9/5): Very happy with my pick! We had dinner and a bottle of wine on the outside patio every night. - First time visit to the UK. Our first stay was cancelled and I had to come up with something on short notice. We were worried the location might be too far from all the sights, but it worked out great. We like to walk and walked to Big Ben and back the first day. Tube stations and buses all close by. The apartment is in Shoreditch, a creative hub with colourful street art, hip pubs and cafes, edgy galleries and popular nightclubs....ok, my wife and I are in our 60s and were a little worried we would't fit in but the area was very inviting and relaxed. We visited in mid September and the temps were in the upper 60s the whole time. We opened the windows at night (apartment lists AC but I couldn't find one?) and it was surprisingly noisy throughout the night. We kept the bedroom windows closed after that, but it might be too hot in warmer weather.
- Adam (10/5): Very enjoyable - Carolina and Estephania were very helpful in arranging and accessing. - very clean and well equipped
- Daniel (8/5): nice city amartment with amazing view - The Hoxton Penthouse was perfect for our tirp, located quite central (at "old street" tube station).
We enjoyed the view over the city, the sundown was amazing! The apartment has seen better times and could use some renovation but in the whole this was not much of a problem for us.
- Andrei (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sherry (10/5): Exceptional - Loved location, terrace and the dwelling itself. The view from terrace made it! Well, for a heat wave in London, a better way to keep cool would have been nice
- Carlo (10/5): great location, spacious apartment - spacious, communication with staff was good when collecting the keys for the apartment. unbearable heat, as the sun beams through in the afternoon, more bigger fans needed or aircon unit installed
- Jack (6/5): great city pad with lovely balcony and fantastic safe and secure location ! - location was epic, nice and clean, safe and secure property with all you need for a weekend away! the price was pretty high for what it was. didn’t mind the stairs but something to think about if you’re a bit unfit
