Guest Reviews
- Jennifer (1/5): Read all the feedback you can before booking. - This property is close to public transport and there is a Sainsbury supermarket is on the ground. The apartment is spacious but it is very poorly maintained and the view is hindered by the dirty glass. When I arrived the previous guests wet bath towels were still in the bathroom. There was a bar of soap with hair attached to it on the side of the bath and a hairpin in the bottom of the toilet bowl! Worst of all, there was no toilet paper. Therefore, the bathroom hadn’t been cleaned!
The dish clothes and tea towel were old and smelly and the floors had not been vacuumed, swept or cleaned. The hall cupboard was overflowing with excess linen, the ironing board had no cover and the balcony doors and glass railing need cleaning. The door to the washing detergent compartment (that includes the instructions for the washing machine) is broken (see photos).
The owner organised a delivery of toilet paper and had the cleaner return to following day but the cleaner has limited skills and understood very little English therefore it was difficult to explain what was needed when she returned. Overall, this place needs attention and maintenance.
However, if this wasn’t enough (as previous guests have stated) getting your £250 deposit back is unnecessarily difficult. I had to request this payment 3 times and eventually received it five days after I had departed.
This place is very poorly presented and does not remotely reflect “value for money”. It is truly a shame that Booking.com does not monitor property standards through the feedback that is provided following guest’s experiences. I could never recommend this accommodation and would never return.
- Jennifer (1/5): A horrible, horrible & costly experience - Four hours prior to my booking I realised I hadn’t received any checkin instructions despite having paid the £250 (A$545). I messaged the property & received a reply via WhatsAp saying “unfortunately the property won’t be available until tomorrow”. The owner did not seem to understand or care that it was really inconvenient not to be able to move into the property until a day later as I had appointments and couldn’t spend time moving properties. But I was left with no alternative & after I requested help, agreed to organise someone to collect me & my luggage the following day & take me to the apartment.
The owner also told me they would find me alternative accommodation and they would pay for it. Additionally, I was asked to cancel the reservation so that the owner didn’t incur a financial penalty!
I was emailed an alternative place to stay but when I arrived it hadn’t been paid for and I had to pay! I spoke to the owner by phone who assured me she would pay the property the next day but I would have to settle the bill if I wanted somewhere to sleep. Of note, the owner never paid for the property & did not tell me that what she decided to do was cancel my Booking.com reservation to enable me to receive a refund from Booking.com for this one night (this was the 1st night of a 4 night stay) I was left paying more for the additional accommodation costs as well as a £7 debit card fee.
As an intelligent & experienced traveler I cannot believe I ignored the comments made by previous guests whereby this sort of thing has happened before! The lesson learnt is not to ignore negative feedback and think this would not happen to you.
- Caroline (5/5): Good apartment but terrible check in experience - The place to collect from was dodgy, there was no clear instructions and I was not aware that I was not supposed to speak to front reception. Check in process and communication
- Fortunato (2/5): Traunatic experience - Nothing at all as supposed to be check in time was 3 pm and the flat was not ready until 630. I have to rebook another accommodation. The staff are all over with their messages regarding chrcking in it was delayed 3.5 hours and until now a refund is not yet tefunded nor an email from the property to apologise for thr circumstsnces . Instead the response on that day was well cancel it if you want. Very bac and traumatic experience particularly purpose was to relax fur to its view becsuse i sm feeling unwell due to depression but rather it worsens becsuse of the situation.
- Folarin (1/5): Bad - Nothing Waited till less than 24 hours before checking to tell me to cancel
- Rachel (7/5): Good - Very nice, good location everything you needed. Sainsbury’s just down stairs. Great views across London! Didn’t get my deposit back for a couple of weeks but everything else ok
- Karl (10/5): Exceptional -

- Jayden (9/5): Superb -
- Krenare (9/5): Superb - very nice apartment and very good location coffee machine didn't work
- Daryl (10/5): Fantastic stay will be returning soon! -
- Rosa (5/5): Passable - The place itself is really nice and a very good location. The host is nice just needs to communicate better with the guest. But it properly needs to be taken care of more and to be more appropriate and accommodating for guests. They could use better appliances for the kitchen, towels and sheets. The kitchen appliances were a mess, everything in very poor conditions you couldn't even cook with it. The kettle was so disgusting from the inside like it had mould. The apartment was not properly clean, I found the trash of the previews guest in the bathroom, they left things in the washer and dryer and you couldn't use it. The host was very demanding with a deposit if not they didnt give you the key, then at check in time the apartment was not ready and they didnt give me much information, I just had to wait outside like 30-45 mins after checkin before the host gave me the information.
- Support (1/5): Bad -
- Melania (3/5): Poor - the view only! Even though the apartment had good reviews, our experience was nothing but meh. The apartment looks great, it has a great view on one side. The problem was the dirt from the bathroom, the fact that the shower was clogged, that all the shower gel or shampoo bottles were empty and the bathroom drawer was broken and felt directly on my foot when trying to open it. The worst part was that the bed’s linen wasn’t washed and it was full of someone’s hair. Also we couldn’t change the temperature to we were forced to stay on 21 degrees all the time even though London was very cold those days, as a result now my duaghter is sick since we came back. The walls were spotted in the livingroom and bedroom. We asked the landlord to clean the apartment because it was dirty and it the night spent there was disgusting and she made us leave the keys in order to “clean” the apartment. Nothing happened and the cleaning lady never came. Bad experience, not clean!
- Tracey (8/5): Over all very comfortable - It was very soundproof The drains in the bathroom didn’t drain well
- Chen (9/5): Superb -
- Marlee (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anya (9/5): Wonderful - The view, size of the apartment, very homely, accessories provided The key collection process
- Linda (10/5): Had a great stay love England and - Very close to all public transport and shops. Clean and tidy. Very happy with our apartment. Nothing really major to report
- Nic (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kathy (5/5): Apartment is as pictured but read all the reviews to see if this apartment meets your requirements. - Let me preface this review by stating that we owned and managed a rental property for 15 years. We believe in honest and balanced reviews that help travelers decide if a property is the right fit for them. We rely heavily on reviews when we choose a property.
Elephant & Castle is a neighborhood in South London, that is undergoing a transformation. We were not familiar with this area when we booked the property and this would probably not be a neighborhood we would choose again, but that is on us. As others have stated it is very convenient to public transport is and there is a Sainsbury market downstairs (closed on Sunday when we arrived) The view from the apartment of the London skyline is impressive, especially at night. The apartment itself was as expected from the listing photos, except for the balcony which has no furniture on it and faces a large construction site. As other reviewers have mentioned, the PayPal damage deposit and refund process was cumbersome and more difficult than it should be and we were a little uncomfortable picking up the FOB at a local off-license. You're also strongly advised not to have contact with the concierge downstairs, which also made us uncomfortable.
The bed was made up of a patchwork of linens and same for the towels which were well worn. One of the pillowcases even had a blood stain on it, which is totally unacceptable. This really affected my review. As some other reviewers commented, there are some items that should be provided like a new kitchen sponge, kitchen towels, a starter roll of paper towels.
- Chantalle (9/5): Great location, modern apartment - Fantastic location in South London at Elephant and Castle - a 3 min walk from the tube and walkable to many attractions including Parliament, Buckingham Palace, Tate, Borough Market and much more. A 5 min walk away is the Mercato Metropolitano for food (https://mercatometropolitano.com/elephant-castle/) and the Ministry of Sound. The apartment is new and modern, with great 10th floor views and conveniently has a Sainsbury on the ground floor. Laundry machine, small kitchen. Neighbourhood feels safe, did not feel uncomfortable in the area at all. Netflix and Prime available. Host was great with communication and was prompt with her replies and responses. The PayPal damage deposit and refund process was cumbersome and more difficult than it should be and with currency exchanges I lost some money. Only one FOB key available (that you have to pick up at a local off-license. However, 24 hour access so not limited to scheduling a time for pick-up/drop off) so less flexible in and outs between my partner and I. The apartment currently overlooks a HUGE and very noisy construction site so we had to have the balcony door and all windows closed most of the time. Views are still great.
- David (9/5): classy place thoughtfully furnished in a great location - Great location great views the only minor annoyance would have been the patchy TV reception which I think is a building problem and not the apartments problem
- Dusoul (8/5): Very good -
- Josephine (9/5): Superb - Location and view. Bed a bit hard
- Low (10/5): Exceptional -
- Harriet (1/5): dodgy set up and felt unsafe and had to leave - dodgy set up and felt unsafe
- Donatas (9/5): Superb -
