• Greta (1/5): Charged double the advertised price upon arrival - Had a horrible experience here. When we arrived, she told us the price would be double what was advertised. It was advertised at 65USD, which converted to pesos is 23500ARS. It stated on booking.com that we would pay in the local currency (in cash) at the official rate on the day of arrival. So we had that amount of pesos ready. When we arrived, she told us the price was 50000ARS, more than double the price advertised. When we questioned this, she gave us a whole bunch of different reasons, none of which made sense. She kept changing the reason, and also the price. First, she said it was taxes, but it was impossible that the taxes could be more than the price itself. The tax is supposed to be 21%. Then she said the exchange rate wasn't 'real' and that we would have to pay the mep rate, now making the price 65000ARS. Finally, she said that booking.com wouldn't let her put in the right price. She said we had to pay the price of 50000ARS if we wanted to stay there that night.  It was late at night, we were all very tired, we had very little options of other places to go, so we paid the 50000ARS. We feel completely scammed and taken advantage of because we are tourists. We had been travelling around Argentina for a month, in every place we stayed, the rate was advertised on booking.com in USD, and we paid in ARS at the official rate. There is no way we would've booked this place if it had been advertised at the price we paid (50000ARS = 138USD, NOT 65USD). It was a 40 minute walk up a big hill from the centre. We had to pay for taxis to and from. We also had to pay a fee to withdraw more money from ATM as we didn't have enough for this new increased price. The only reason we booked was because it was cheap and we were getting in late before a flight the next day. The week before, we stayed in a lovely place in the centre of el calafate for half the price. Would not recommend to any tourist, she will try to take advantage.
