Guest Reviews
- JEAN-LOUIS (8/5): Appartement atypique mais charmant et très bien situé et accessible - Appartement atypique avec beaucoup de charme, très bien situé par rapport aux principaux sites de Florence et bien desservi par les transports
- Dave (8/5): - Very unique, lots of character. Plenty of room. Did not realize when booking that suitcase would need to be brought down a spiral staircase to bedroom.
- panfarf (5/5): Ciekawe miejsce z wieloma wadami. Cena nieadekwatna do jakości.

- Roberto (7/5): -
- Edgar (10/5): - Bello alojamiento, ubicación conveniente y muy buena limpieza
- Wolfgang (10/5): - Fantastisches Ambiente, super Lage, absolut sauber! Die Klimaanlage war unser Lebensretter bei dieser Hitze. War alles perfekt!
- Colette (10/5): - Très bien placé. Emplacement vraiment top. Logement très bien. Bonne literie.
- Martin (9/5): We loved Secret Suites. - A brilliant location close to the Ponte Vecchio but out of the crowds across the river. A fun spacious apartment with nice bathrooms. Great place for a 3 night stay with adult children. The steep spiral staircase down to the bedrooms would not be suitable for everybody or oversized suitcases. The street is narrow and a bigger taxi could not access it.
- Lemay (10/5): Exceptional -
- Paul (9/5): Superb -
- Sagar (8/5): Worth the money especially for location and comfort. - Location is excellent for the guest house. Property itself is quite comfortable and cozy.
Host is really helpful and nice. She allowed us to keep our bags for couple of additional hours until our next onwards train. This helped us a lot as we had lot of bags and small kid with us. There is no cellular or wifi reception in inner bedroom. Cellular i can understand, but Wifi should have been atleast present.
There are multiple wifi in the properties but for some reason they don't cover inner bedroom. It was bit annoying to have no coverage completely.
This is not fault of property, but there are lot of steps to reach property quickly. There is alternate route but we had to drag many heavy bags up the slop with additional walking.
- Jens (3/5): Never again. - The location The bedrooms are in the basement with no possibility to get fresh air. Access only over an iron staircase. The pictures in Booking.com certainly have a different impression.
- Christine (10/5): Special apartment in the center of Florence - A wonderful big apartment in the center of Florence. Very unusual, with 2 big bedrooms (2 double beds, 1 big single bed) with a second bathroom on the floor under the entrance which gives to a living /kitchen /bathroom.
The floor below is originally an old crypt with vaulted ceilings and great decor.
Kitchen with a nespresso machine, microwave, stove top kettle, all amenities.
Excellent value and great service. Thank you! A real pleasure!
- Claudia (5/5): Over-priced, good for location but not family-friendly - Location was excellent next to Ponte vecchio
Size of apartment was suitable for groups #1 staircase is a safety hazard for children, where a small child can fall through wide openings down to ground level onto glass table.
Damp air in apartment and didn't know it was ground to basement (cave).
There were no windows.
Host was direct, not very welcoming and too strict with cleaning.
Value for money isn't great. No breakfast available with added chores to take out garbage.
- Lori (9/5): Superb - Rooms were nice but had lots of spiral stairs down to where the rooms are so difficult with luggage. Greatvlication near everything.
- Gunnlaugur (5/5): Very nice but no Wifi nor 4G connections. - It was all right and good location and rather central of everything. Trouble to entering and check-in. No wifi connection downstairs and even no 3/4G mobil connection. These internet problems and 4G very annoying and so additional CityTax.
- Xyriz (6/5): Pleasant -
- Mark (7/5): Good - Excellent location and all we needed for a short conference trip. Architecture was lovely Air conditioner broke in the bedroom so was very hot but Serena arranged for it to be fixed. The stairs are very steep and you can't easily carry a case to the bedrooms.
- Beatriz (9/5): Lovely apartment in a great location! - A very unique apartment. We loved the high ceilings. There is a supermarket nearby, which was very convenient.
- Gabi (10/5): Would definitely recommend! - The apartment was on the first floor, which was great considering we were caring a lot of suitcases.
It was an easy access and we were admired with how big the apartment was. The first floor had a kitchen, a living room and a bathroom with a lot of facilities.
The second floor had a suite, a sofa-bed and another king size bed. We were a family of four, but it could've easily host even more people.
The location was great: close to a lot of restaurants and shops, and in less than a 5 minute walk we were on the Vecchio Bridge. The apartment wasn't 100% clean, and we could smell a bit of dust. Also, we were asked to take out the trash before checking out, but the trash bins were really far and we couldn't even find it. Other than that, we had an amazing stay.
- Lea (10/5): Exceptional - Great apartment. Within walking distance of tourist sites.
- Gent-nyden (9/5): Unique and beautiful lodging - The secret suite is even more dreamy than the photos show. One of the coolest, most unique places we've ever stayed. Very close to the Ponte Vecchio, a grocery store, shops, and restaurants. Getting luggage down the spiral staircase to the bedrooms wasn't fun and dragging luggage up a huge staircase to reach the hotel was tough, but other than that, the experience was amazing.
- Elizabeth (10/5): A dream come true - I absolutely loved this place it’s beyond beautiful it’s the most beautiful place I’ve ever stayed at the place feels like your staying in an ancient beautifully decorated home the ceilings were arch bricks there are amazing paintings & even statues inside the apartment there’s beautiful spiral stairs that lead to 3 large med rooms with comfortable bed and a bathroom with a tub and shower is also a bathroom upstairs with kitchen and the place offers free laundry facility, washer and dryer, everything about this place is fabulous including the host she was amazing very sweet and helpful, and that’s not all this place is right in the heart of Florance you can walk outside and the river is right in front of the place there’s restaurants everywhere & just across the river are all the ancient sites and tours in Florence, everything is in walking distance. You do not need a cab. I’m grateful I found this place. I hope this review helps the next lucky person.
- Kaung (7/5): Good - Good location and nice building-can feel that special emotion living in ancient buildings( I feels like living in one Edinburgh old building 😀)
Close to local shops and tourist attractions.
Rooms are spacious and like wooden wardrobe and lovely furnitures. - better mention about ZTL zones and parking options in advance.
- it has 2 floors . Top one has kitchen and main bathroom. Down floor has one en-suite and 2 large beds(think king-sized ones). The issue is at down floor - the room is not well ventilated making soil smell. Not sure if it is normal for such old buildings.
- one big issue is no wine opener provided in the room 🫥 🍷
- Mary (8/5): A good apartment for people in their 20's and 30's - The downstairs was beautiful with brick vaulted ceilings. It had lovely artwork and it was cool and quiet. There was a 20 foot metal circular stair to the lower level. It was not safe for older people (we are in our 70's) or for children. We would not have stayed there if we had known about the stairwell. One in our party slept upstairs because of the stairwell where it was warmer and noisier.
- Taygan (5/5): Not great, but can accommodate a larger group - I liked that the basement was cooler and it had 2 bathrooms for larger groups. I liked the location across the Arno river it was quiet...but you have to be able to walk up a decent hill to get there. Water pressure was good. Beds were relatively comfortable. It wasn't super clean even though the host kept telling me to make sure it was clean when we left. I paid for a cot and there was no cot just a mat for the floor for my baby. She told me she would come the next day with a cot and never did. Communication was ok but not great.
We bought our own toilet paper, paper towel, salt and pepper. Only 1 partly used roll per bathroom was provided. We were provided no towel for my son. (4Adults and a 1year old) Only 4 towels for the adults.
Bring indoor shoes if you book because the spiral staircase is beautiful but painful in bare feet or socks. Also we found out there is a second fridge on our last day there...it was gross, hadn't been cleaned in a bit and had food stains in it. Also a stain on the duvet cover in the master bedroom.
- Isabelita (8/5): We enjoyed our stay at Secret Suites! - Loved the rustic design of the bedrooms located at the lower floor and the lively spiral staircase! We had to pull up our luggages all the way up the brick road from the street below - not exactly easy especially for seniors!
- Gigi (8/5): Really cute, unique apartment. Probably very cool in summer since part of it is underground. - Beautiful and unique setting with a spiral staircase leading down to the bedrooms. Special features like a back-lit statue in the master bedroom and a small window for ventilation high up in a nook with tiny staircase leading up to it.
It’s on the ground floor so very easy to get into. There isn’t a lot of counter space in the kitchen so it would have been hard to cook a meal. Would be nice to have some kitchen towels-we used a bathroom towel.
The drain pipes under the sink came loose so we had some water leaking. We cleaned it up and fixed it well enough to use, and told the manager and hopefully he’ll fix it permanently.
- Anna (8/5): Very good -
- Stacey (6/5): It was fun - Location The bright light coming in through downstairs bedroom
- Monteiro (7/5): Good - localization and cleanness We needed the invoice and despite asking through booking it was denied by the host. No invoice was sent.
- Gea (9/5): Superb -
- Niall (7/5): Centrally located, charming basement. - Centrally located, charming basement. Really nice restaurants a short walking distance away. Broken aircon. Contacted the host and was told to find the doorman the next day who couldn’t be found. It’s also a bit tricky walking down the steps to the bedroom for my parents in their sixties.
- Kenneth (3/5): No soap bedrooms down stairs road to facility blocked no alternative offer by host - Location Everything else
- Artem (7/5): Good -
- Anonymous (10/5): So lovely!! - The AC worked beautifully in addition to it being cooler as the downstairs was below street level! Beds were comfy! Location was superb! We lost water one night, but that was a city problem and the owners were super responsive about the situation!
- Steve (8/5): Quirky, historic and very well-located apartment close to the Ponte Vecchio - Location is superb, very near the Ponte Vecchio in the Altr'Arno. Minor issues, but the kitchen and dining facilities are quite basic, meaning it is difficult for a family to eat in. But in central Florence, so many good options to eat out anyway! Also the air conditioning was fantastic on the lower floor but it was very hot on the ground floor where one of our children slept.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - Location was perfect
- Mr (8/5): Very good -
- Ronald (9/5): Amazing location and "castle" feel to this place. - Extremely easy door entry code with keys under mat. Entry was a breeze. This place was literally steps away from Ponte Vecchio. Parking is a bit of an issue, but our host recommended a couple of parking garages..getting to those garages was a bit of adventure though, but well worth it. The rooms were very nice and comfortable, it has a super nice "castle" feel to it. definitely recommend it, and will definitely stay there next time. This place had everything. nothing to dislike about it.
- Bernadette (5/5): Very inaccucurate description - The property was well located in as much as it was close to the center of the city and also pretty quiet. There was enough space for the 4 of us, the beds were comfortable, the linens were good. There was plenty of hot water in the 2 bathrooms and there was a full kitchen. There are plenty of good restaurants very close by. BUT ..... The property is on a very steep hill which many taxis would not enter so lugging cases up/down was definitely a problem. Although there is a full kitchen there is no counter space at all. Since we only had breakfast there it didn't matter but cooking full meals would not have been easy. It stated that the apartment was on the ground floor but most of it was actually underground, very little natural light and only 3 tiny windows through which you could see nothing. The description "landmark view; city view" is complete rubbish. You have to negotiate an iron spiral staircase with 19 steps to access the bedrooms, we had to empty our cases upstairs and carry stuff down to the bedrooms as it was simply too dangerous to try and carry cases up @ down. Yet another falsehood in the description "entire unit wheelchair accessible"! The main bedroom had a bathroom en-suite but the other bathroom was at the entry level. They are both nice bathrooms but awkwardly situated. I had deliberately searched for properties with washing machines as we were travelling for 2 weeks. The washing machine listed in the description was actually further down in the communal basement to be used by the building. Inconvenient but OK IF it had been working properly! I had to have the building supervisor rescue my load which had been left sitting in water when the machine stopped. He helped me get it into the second machine which fortunately did work ok. I didn't use the dryer for fear of that not working properly. After a short time we began to notice the dampness in our clothes no doubt due to being underground with no air flow. We did use the a/c and also a fan seemed to help too. We were there for 4 nights and it was ok but in all honesty I can't recommend it to others.
- Estera (9/5): Charming and convenient location - Very charming and good location sewer smell in lower bathroom first day; cleared up by next day. Wifi works good upstairs; but very spotty downstairs.
- Kristi (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexandr (8/5): wonderful apartment in the heart of Florence - authentic experience, how apartments were before on the atrium there were lots of dust and in some places on the floor
- Ásgeir (8/5): Very good -
- Adrian (10/5): Exceptional - What a fantastic apartment! So beautiful, and so close to all the sights. It is also only 20 mins walk from the train station. Kitchen area a little bit small, and having to remove garbage daily is a bit painful.
- Bianca (9/5): Nice apartament, in the city Center. - The apartament is nice, in the city Center, very close to the restaurants. The owner has too much rules: to Take garbage everyday and also when you leave, no smoking.
The apartament has one separate bedroom and the other 2 bedrooms are in the same room split up by a small wall which doesn’t give you any privacy.
The owner ask to make check out at 10 am, but on booking it s written you can make it between 10-11 am. In the and he let us to leave at 11 after i shown him this information.
- Donatella (10/5): Exceptional - A wonderful apartment in the heart of Florence. Wonderful position and architecture. Very clean and comfortable. Highly recommended!
- Claire (8/5): Very good -
- Martina (8/5): Very good - Good position, big bedrooms, romantic decorations and we also found fresh drinks in the fridge the rooms are in the ancient cellars and to go down there is only a narrow spiral staircase
- Safiya (10/5): Exceptional -
- Noelle (4/5): Disappointing apartment - The location was good. Close to all amenities and attractions.Very spacious apartment.
Owner did respond within a reasonable time to the message about the blocked shower but wasn't fixed for almost 24 hours. There is an extremely steep hill which the taxi dropped us off at the bottom so had to struggle with bags up the hill. The shower upstairs got blocked after it was used once. Was fixed the following day but the smell was disgusting during this period.so unable to use the upstairs toilet either. The other toilet and shower was accessed through a bedroom downstairs so not ideal.
There is also a musty smell in the downstairs section of the apartment. Didn't like the spiral staircase as couldn't get the suitcases down. The kettle didn't work which I didn't report as was more concerned about getting the shower fixed due to the smell. No WiFi in the downstairs bedroom at all which is not stated in the description.
The outside security door was broken on the day we arrived. It was fixed on day 2 of our stay.
I would not stay here again.
- Zied (7/5): Good stay - The location is excellent, very close to the old bridge "ponte vecchio".
The architectural style of the house.
