- Golota Isaac Lamah (10/5): Excellent Stay in the Heart of Milan ! - We had a wonderful stay at Fra Storia e Modernità and would highly recommend it to anyone visiting Milan with family or friends.
The apartment is full of charm and character, combining a unique historical atmosphere. It was clean, decently-equipped, and comfortable for our group.
The apartment is within walking distance of Milano Centrale Station, making it very convenient for exploring Milan and taking day trips. There are also numerous great restaurants, cafés, and shops nearby, allowing us to enjoy the vibrant atmosphere of the neighborhood.
What truly made our stay exceptional was the host. Communication was outstanding from start to finish. The host was extremely kind, responsive, and helpful, replying quickly both through Booking.com and WhatsApp whenever we had questions.
Overall, this was an excellent experience. The combination of the beautiful apartment, central location, and outstanding hospitality made our visit to Milan truly memorable. We would definitely stay here again on a future trip to Milan. N/A
- Mona (6/5): -
- Alexei (8/5): Great - Great location and unique experience A bit of noise from local bar upstairs on weekends
- Irina Bianca (9/5): Good value for money in the center of Milan - The host was very communicative and friendly, she always replied to any problem and was willing to help. The checkin was very easy, and it was easy to find the apartment. The apartment had everything we needed, it also had nice extras like some snacks upon arrival, ear plugs, dishwasher detergent, cosmetics like dry shampoo, hair dryer and hair straightener. It was also clean and it has 4 rooms with beds, 3 where 2 people can sleep, and one single room. So it is very good for bigger groups of friends or a bigger family. The host is also transparent about the fact that the apartment is a bunker, so it is a bit unconventional but you are aware of that beforehand. And the interior is very industrial so it fits the vibe. The position is extremely nice, 10 minute walk to the central station, 15 minute walk to the Duomo, the neighbourhood is very clean and nice, there are 2 supermarkets and 2 restaurants right outside your door. The apartment is under a bar, so it can be noisy on the south-facing bedrooms at night, especially in warmer seasons. The bar was not there when the owner bought the apartment, so it is out of their control. The host has also insulated the windows on that side so it muffles the noise, and if you are not a light sleeper it is not a problem. Plus the host provided plenty of ear plugs, so that helps. However, on the north-facing bedroom you cannot hear the bar noise so if you are a light sleeper you can go there.

- Mariavittoria (10/5): Comfortable accommodation and walkable to everything we needed - The property was very cute. We were very close to the train station which was great for us as we planned on doing a couple day trips to other cities during our stay. It was also close to the downtown area, everything was very walkable. The hostess was delightful and very accommodating. Communication was excellent. I would definitely rent this property again.
- SOOGIL (7/5): Impressive bunker but noisy around - Very interesting and strong impression at first visit cause it's underground and it looks like a bunker(Even nice interior inside as well) It was a bit hard for me to open the entrance door with the key(2nd Door)
And I understand it's on Saturday and the earplug, the host leave, but still can hear a noisy of music till midnight-early morning from the pub outside,
- Sam (9/5): - Carolina the host is fantastic. Very welcoming and easy to work with!

- Elaine (9/5): Quirky equipped apartment, perfect for those interested in history. Wonderful location. - We had a bit of a mix up with not being able to pick up the keys, but the owner was very helpful in resolving this and we were in the apartment before too long. It's a brilliant piece of history the apartment, quirky, unique and very well presented. All clean and tidy and had pretty much everything you could want. The dishwasher is a bonus. Location was brilliant, very pleasant walk into city centre and the tourist areas, very close to metro and the wider train network. We chose to train a train to Lake Como on one of the days that the apartment was brilliantly located to facilitate that. I would have preferred two sets of keys as the property can sleep at least 5 people, so one set of keys became a bit of an issue for us. I would also like to see a folder which described how things work and how to reset them if required including guidance on the recycling, what to put where. Out of interest, I would also suggest maybe a bit of documented history of the apartment, it clearly was used as a shelter during the war and this is a true asset to the apartment that should be celebrated.

- adriana (9/5): A very cool hideaway in a convenient location - This is a really cool (in both senses) hideaway just outside of the busy bits of Milan. The bombshelter vibe is very special and because you are partially below ground, it keeps nice and cool in the warm Italian summer. It has everything you need, and is clean. Also industrial art made from bicycle parts and funky prints make this a special spot. Not your standard run of the mill apartment! On particularly hot weekendnights, the bedrooms that are adjacent to the street can get some noise from people standing outside the bar. However, we then found that the accommodation has taken particular measures to counter this, with soundproof shutters and even a bowl of earplugs. Much appreciated. And there is always the option to go upstairs and join in the fun.
- Julienne (7/5): - There is a nightclub above which went until 4.30am one morning. Very loud thumping music. The host has done everything possible to alleviate sound, like installing heavy shutters and reporting to the Police etc. Carola the host is also very quick to communicate (via Whattsapp) and is helpful. But the noise was bad, particularly as we arrived in the height of summer - with everyone wanting to be outside and socialising. The location would be great for a couple who could sleep in the main bedroom unaffected by the noise, but the other two bedrooms are exposed to the nightclub noise. I really hope Carola the host can come to some agreement with the nightclub as it was a great location and a really funky apartment.
- Arnarsson (7/5): Good -
- Sara (5/5): Too noisy for me - This apartment is on a main and in a good location when considering access to shops, public transport and train station. Collection and return of keys is vey simple and convenient. Unfortunately this apartment is right next door to a club. Our experience on both of the nights we stayed was very loud music, singing by guests at the club and on one night a particularly large crowd of people shouting and talking outside our bedroom windows, this meant no sleep until around 2am. The owners are aware of the problem as they are trying to have the club closed and usually supply ear buds to help reduce the noise, however there were none available for our stay. Also, this apartment is an ex air raid shelter and located in a basement. We found it generally had a musty smell about it and the air-conditioning did not cool to the 20 degrees it was set at. I wouldn't recommend this apartment if you like peace and quiet.
- Tina (9/5): Lovely stay - little loud at night - The apartment was very clean and well furnished. Love that it is close to the ATM, grocery stores, and plenty of restaurants. The 3 separate bedrooms were a plus!
We also got a kick out of the vault doors. We visited during a hot spell and the apartment was comfortably cool. The bar upstairs closes very late (almost 5 am on a Friday night/Sat AM) and is rather loud. Even with the furnished earplugs, my teenage children had trouble sleeping.
- Leonilde (10/5): Un posto interessante da scoprire a Milano! - It was like walking into another dimension! The iron doors so cool! Great attention to detail!
We were a group and each had our own room. Comfy beds too. Metro nearby and shops all around.
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Mike (9/5): Superb - Interesting decor Noise from bar at front
- Egidijus (8/5): Very good -
- Christian (9/5): Superb -
- Michael (10/5): Wow what an experience 😀 we stayed in a vintage little clean museum next to transportation in Milan - We absolutely enjoyed our stay and would definitely come back! This was my third time in Milan, and I’ve realized the key to a hassle free trip is staying near public transportation especially the metro, which runs frequently with about four minutes intervals between trains.
This apartment is perfectly located with two metro lines nearby, one just a 5 minute walk away. Additionally, there’s a tram stop right next to the property. Transportation is always my main concern, and this location couldn’t have been better.
So for this apartment it was literally a different exciting experience, from my understanding it was a bomb shelter
we was amazed with the interior design the iron doors, it was just as if we were in a little museum just for us
Additionally the decoration just match the museum mood, alot of marvellous vintage items
It was real fun with my son describing all these items
Across the street there is a big supermarket, and just three minutes away, plenty of restaurants.
On the left upon exiting, lots of shops, while the right side offers a quieter vibe. A short walk left leads to a main street with big name stores, restaurants, and more.
The apartment itself was well equipped with everything we need, a full kitchen, laundry machine, and more. It was super clean, and the host was incredibly attentive. She was always available via WhatsApp to answer any questions
she will send instructions before you arrive
Upon arriving, just provide the building staff with the host’s name, as there’s no external sign indicating “FRA Estoria.” Ok actually i will definitely will back again i only have a little observations
- While the heating was adequate, during extremely cold nights, we wished it could be a bit stronger.
- Since it’s a basement apartment, get ready if you have alot of heavy luggage, however it is just few steps no more than 10 to 15 i guess
- On weekends, there was a little bit some sounds, but there were earplugs available
- The hot water supply was excellent, but it lasts for about 20 minutes, so you may need to wait a bit for it to heat up again. Actually even the bathroom decoration was great 😊
- Mooi (7/5): Good -
- Amara (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (6/5): the bar next door ruins your stay - On the upside, the beds were surprisingly comfortable and the location is undeniably convenient, being close to Milano Centrale and a short walk to the city center. The apartment showed significant wear and tear, especially evident in the furniture, kitchen, and, most disappointingly, the bathroom. The proximity to a bar meant that loud music blasted until the early hours, making sleep a challenge in two of the three bedrooms.
- Justin (9/5): Superb -
- Jennifer (9/5): Great vale for money- we enjoyed our stay! - We really enjoyed the character and decor of the property. It’s in a great location , handy to list of restaurants we needed more time to sample, also an easy tram ride to sights like the Duomo. Carolina was really helpful and very responsive the noise from the bar next door on the Fri and Sat night was loud but we had earplugs which helped
- Rami (9/5): Superb - Location so convenient, and house manager Carolina was really a very friendly person who gave us so many tips and help
- Nicola (7/5): Good - Unique property being an old air raid shelter. Lack of natural daylight, and steps down to door need water blasting as slimy and slippery in the wet
- Lady (9/5): We had a lovely time staying here, Carolina was very responsive through chat. Also near tram stations and a few minutes - very spacious, complete facilites with washer & dryer, and extra set of towels, etc.
wifi connection is also very good. could use a little more lighting (maybe brighter lights) most of the lights are on the warmer side. would have also made the stay better if the fridge could make ice cubes (the fridge was functional but it couldn't make ice).
- Judith (10/5): Fantastic location in a unique property. - This is a converted bomb shelter from World War II. The attention to detail is wonderful making it a quirky and fun space to stay. Plenty of space with everything you need. The location is fantastic 10 mins from the main train station and a 5 minute walk to the metro, only a 30min walk to the Duomo.
- Eric (8/5): Very good - The location is adjacent to 2 train stations.
The owner Carolina is very helpful to us, every questions I asked she replied immediately. The place is at the basement level. So if you have luggages it will be challenging.
- Noah (10/5): Exceptional - The property was nicely located. Carola the host was active for help in checking in allowing for a smooth transition.
- Matthew (10/5): Exceptional - The decor and uniqueness was amazing. The host was extremely helpful as well!
- Joey007 (10/5): WWII 💣 shelter experience. - The cleanliness and good preparation of the rooms. Bfast cereals was a surprise 😮. Nothing
- Deborah (9/5): Great place and perfect for a family of 4! Highly recommend! - N/A The master bedroom smelled slightly like mildew.
- Louise (8/5): Very good -
- Lori (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lai (8/5): Very good -
- Harvey (10/5): Great time with friends - It’s a good use of an air raid shelter. Very quirky. N/A
- Masni (8/5): Very good -
- Pierre (6/5): Nice flat but difficult to sleep... - Appartment very loud as it is underground nearby the tramway rails and nearby a bar
- Natalie (9/5): Comfortable, cozy and convenient - Location, facilities A little noisy with trams and lack of hot water
- Damian (10/5): Exceptional - Unique spaces. Comfortable beds. Broken tile in bathroom.
- Edward (5/5): not what was expected. - It was a unique lay outfrom a referbished WW2 Bunker. It had a great shower. Nice decore. And was able to accomoted 4 people. I requested a quiet room. There was a bar above the location that play loud techno music to early in the morning that kept us awake. The host blamed it on the fact it was fasion week and a lot of party's take place. however talikng with the niegbors in the morning they said this is an ongoing problem that happens every night.
- Laurie (9/5): Perfect in Milano! - It was easy to find, we walked from the train station. Lots to do in the area.
The space was good for our group. The one bedroom had no windows, so pitch dark when light off. Not uncomfortable, though.
Everything was as it said. Clean, comfortable beds, good kitchen, nice bathroom.
The communication with Carolina was exceptional! Just how dark the bedroom got. We had a nightlight, so all was good.😊
- John (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ira (2/5): Horrible experience and definitely not worth nothing near what I paid. - Nothing. I compared it to a dungeon or a bomb shelter with 2” thick iron doors that did not close completely or lock to enter the bathroom and other rooms. First of all it’s in a basement and to get into the dungeon you have to pass by all the garbage pails filled with garbage for the entire apartment complex. Just about everything. No amenities like coffee, no ice cube trays to make ice, not enough towels for three people and many other things I forced myself to forget.
- Debbie (8/5): Very good - Very clean and quirky Lots of noise from the bar next door
- Giulia (8/5): Very good - The apartment is clean and well organised. Good location close to the city centre. The host was a little overwhelming with straight rules and constant communication, it looked like she was checking on us. Even though she was super welcoming and easy to communicate with.
- Luis (7/5): Okay - Location is centrally located with access to grocery store and plenty of restaurants choices. The apartments AC was not fully functional. We had to keep adjusting it. WiFi was down but owner did informed us as we arrived. Could have been a little more cleaner the floor was sticky.
- Anne (8/5): Good. Just a shame that the night we were there it was very noisy - The owner has renovated this property immaculately. Lovely apartment. The noise. From karaoke bar and trams
- Neil (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nancy (10/5): perfect location and adorable - clean and despite being in the heart of the city, we all slept so well
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Dean (9/5): Superb - Fits a family of 5 well and has a cool bunker feel. Nil
- Senthil (10/5): Exceptional - The complete house was good We exhausted the hot water with 1-2 showers and later we started getting cold water
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - The apartment is cozy and stylishly furnished, suitable for a group of five people, as well as a family, with everything necessary for everyday life. Although the apartment is located on the basement floor, it is well lit and there are small windows in all rooms that provide light and fresh air. The apartment has a great location - close to Milano Centrale and within walking distance of the Duomo. Carolina is an excellent host, very responsive, responded quickly and even came to help when we didn't know how to turn on the electric stove.
- Alan (8/5): Very good -
- Anastassia (7/5): Quite good apartment - very interesting design of apartment one bedroom was with window on the street, because of that there was noisy(quite impossible to sleep) and also this bedroom was cols
- Victoria (7/5): Good - The host was very helpful! Overall, it was easy to reach her through Viber, she replied quickly to any inquiries and accommodated our late arrival. The apartment is very nice and suitable for a family of five. It is located in the basement, but that was not an issue. The building is very safe. There was noise outside the two bedrooms, which of course, has nothing to do with the host. Carolina, the host, was great and the apartment was great, too. But unfortunately, there is a bar that is opened until very late (e.g. 03:30 am), just next to the bedrooms small windows and my children had problems with sleeping. So, it might be more suitable for young people who want to stay out until late and do not mind the noise.
- Débora (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location!
We had a great stay at Carola’s place. The location couldn’t be better for the price. Very centric, with easy access to the tram and underground.
The apartment is in a basement but we actually quite enjoyed the quirkiness of it, plus it is tastefully decorated and had all the expected amenities.
Carola was very friendly and helpful before and during our stay.
- Mark (10/5): Exceptional -
- Wajahat (8/5): Very good -
- William (9/5): Superb -
- Geo (10/5): Exceptional - Bedrooms
Decoration
Peaceful
- Emma (8/5): quirky, very central great apartment - loved the interior and the apartment had everything we needed. the location was great and very central and owner was very friendly and helpful at all times. beds comfortable and equipment was fine one room (bunk beds) was very loud due to wind weather coming in from the vent and being next door to a bar but others were fine
- Nathan (10/5): Exceptional - Communication by property owner was exceptional. Location was excellent.
- Yicheng (9/5): Superb -
- Annaowczarzak (8/5): Very good - Location is good, place is clean and owner is super nice. 1. It does not have 2 double beds like in offer :( there is 1 double bed and 2 single beds.
2. It's in basement - just 1 tiny window - very claustrophobic
3. It was humid inside
- Ellen (9/5): Unique stay in Milan - Spacious, well equipped, unique and comfortable accommodation. Felt like a home away from home. Close to everything you need in Milan with a bit of a walk. Short walk to two metro lines. Not far from the central train station.
Staying in a bunker was a cool experience with lots of little unique decorations.
Bathroom was fantastic.
Host communication was great. It's a bunker so it was dark, but enjoyable for a few nights.
- Helen (8/5): Very good - Fantastic location, really lovely apartment.
Carolina, the host, could not have been anymore helpful. Fabulous communication. The only down side was the bar out front of the apartment. In the two smaller bedrooms the sound comes right in from the street until 4am.
