Guest Reviews
- Alkezweeny (10/5): -
- Keith (8/5): Overall, we enjoyed our time there. - Great location for the major tourist areas of Sydney, Opera House, Wharfs etc. Very dusty throughout. Needs a good clean. Some people wouldn’t tolerate that. Someone had written “Dust Me” on a shelf.
A light bulb needed replacing, it was done promptly. Kitchen could use a few more implements and tools.
- Craig (8/5): -
- AnnaG (7/5): Delightful for a Sydney getaway! - This was such a perfect place for 3 friends to stay and enjoy Sydney and have our own rooms. Close to everything with was awesome! The bathroom was a little squeezy.
- Michelle (7/5): A lovely spacious n comfortable property in a great location but does have some issues due to its age - Great location historic property easy walk to Circular Quay Rocks markets Bridge n Opera House Drainage problems in bathroom Power tripped n fans don’t work unless lights are on Kitchen n laundry downstairs
- Anne-Sophie (7/5): -
- Linda (9/5): -
- Leigh (10/5): Great roomy place, great location for the Rocks and Barangaroo - Great location and nice and roomy for all guests. Directions were easily explained which was extremely helpful. N/a
- Graham (10/5): - Location fantastic and lovely historic terrace Bathroom very tight
- Jennifer (6/5): - We enjoyed the access to shops, cafes, market and tourist hot spots and Circular Quay. Our timing of the weekend away corresponded with the ANZAC Day weekend, and so the noise levels at the functions of the 2 very close hotels was dreadful. Very loud music, and hundreds of people lined up out the front of our accommadation waiting to gain access to the party area. People yelling and screaming, the music, then the packup in the early hours of the morning left us sleep deprived and not happy.7

- James (1/5): Look elsewhere. Property was fine, albeit cramped and only had one bathroom despite being designed to accommodate 6-8 pe - Property was in a good location Stay was adequate, location was good.
Unfortunately we booked for four beds. Our booking clearly indicated 4 x beds including a sofa bed. Unfortunately no linen was provided for the fourth (sofa bed). This was not apparent until the bed was used, late at night on our second and final night of accomodation. The issue was flagged the next day/on or around checking out. The property argued and tried to tell me it only had three beds and no sofa bed. I provided evidence to both booking.com and the property. They tried to argue and tell me there was no sofa bed and that there is only 3 x beds. I would consider other options in the area who are more open and honest in their property descriptions. Dissapointing
- Brad (8/5): Great location, quick walk to all the sites. Staff helpful. Bathroom tiny. - Amazing location Small/tiny bathroom & no dishwasher. No air conditioning and could not open windows. Laundry had an odor.
- Phil (8/5): Fantastic location. Well recommended. Would happily stay here again. - Location was fantastic. We deliberately chose a 'Rocks' location so that we could explore that area more. It was only a few streets from the main heart of 'The Rocks' and there was very good access to public transport. Even thought it was the Easter weekend, a lot of the area was trading and there were lots of things still happening. The ferry services from Circular Quay to Darling Harbour are plentiful and we found ourselves crossing from one side to the other all day. Just to be clear, we travel a lot, and our expectations are always reasonable. This is not a listing of what we didn't like, but a listing of what to expect when you arrive. This was a heritage listed original dwelling from 1906. The dwelling beside this one, which is a bit bigger and a different layout, sold in 2017 for $2 million. I have stayed in brand new $2 million penthouses before, and this was absolutely not that. It is located up the hill towards the Harbour Bridge onramp from the city. There is no traffic noise. There is a pub opposite, and the patrons stumble down the stairwells in front of the dwelling until about midnight. Some are loud, some are not, but the noise echoes. For being towards the top of the hill, there was no view. You are staying here beacuse of the location and, so some degree, because of its heritage history. The bathroom was tiny. There was plenty of hot water and the shower was pretty good, but the bathroom was old. The rooms are all small, and the kitchen is dated, but functional (and, to be honest, we didn't use it at all). The rooms were not air conditioned but there were plenty of fans. Power access was challenging - the points were obviously put in to address the heritage limitations, so there about 8 million power packs run all over the place. We were there in autumn, so the fans were sufficient. I suspect that it would be cool in summer due to the heritage heavy block wall construction, but possibly very cold in winter. Lastly, and just to be clear, this is not really a criticism but a statement of fact, The Rocks is all about stairs. Long runs from the harbour to the bridge. So, if stairs are not your thing, just be very aware that the stairs are everywhere.
- Barbara (7/5): Great location, helpful staff. Bathroom would benefit from major renovation. - Very close to the Bridge and Circular Quay, lots of cafes, quiet location so close to the action. Steep steps to the kitchen, bathroom very small and ancient.
- Tracy (7/5): Was a fantastic location. House needed a good clean if you are going to charge premium rates. - Location was excellent. Beds comfortable Shower curtain was broken and mould at the bottom
Bathroom bin rusty
Bedroom fans filthy
Very steep staircase to main bedroom downstairs but no bathroom down stairs.
- Carol (9/5): This is a fantastic home and amazing location. Thank you to the fabulous hosts. - The.location was beyond our expectation. As we had rarely been in Sydney, the location to the Opera House was paramount. We explored on our first evening and could hardly believe that a short walk in some of the most historical areas of Australia brought us to close to the Harbour, Opera House and bridge.
The home had original features, high ceilings , large rooms and comfortable furniture and very comfortable beds. Unhappily there were some areas which were not up to the standard of the rest of the property. They can be quickly remedied. The shower curtain in the bathroom was stained and mouldy around the edge, as were the tiles surrounding the shower. The kitchen cupboard under the sink was messy and only one tea towel was provided for the dishes.
In the laundry, also a bit chaotic, there was laundry soap spilled around the washing machine and not cleaned. We did not cook, or do any washing as our stay was only 3 nights. But the above might well have put us off.
- Fiona (5/5): Excellent location but never again. - The location was brilliant - we really 'Discovered The Rocks' and the apartment was close enough to Circular Quay, the light rail and trains (10-to-15-minute walk depending on which route we took and how many flights of stairs or lifts there were). The host was very patient with me over the bookings which I made several months ago, as I made three separate bookings for the five nights. The emailed instructions and printed signs around the apartment were clear and helpful. We were shocked on arrival to find several not so nice 'Discoveries'. The kitchen pantry was filled with other guests' leftovers and messy at that. The fridge was bare. A small container of milk would have been welcome. The one bathroom, which also contained the toilet was tiny, which we did not expect of an apartment which could sleep six. We were three. But worse, the shower curtain was torn and the bin had mould/rust on top. Because the curtain was unusable water went all over the floor and we had to use towels to soak it up. And there was someone else's empty soap or shampoo container lying in the shower. The laundry area looked like a bomb site. The bedrooms were filled with furniture, some of it not easy to even reach. The back garden needs a good weed and sweep. Overall, we were very disappointed and even for the location, the price seemed high.
- Lyndon (9/5): -
- Michael (5/5): - The location was excellent
Proximity to The Rocks, CBD and public transport Beds uncomfortable and small
No air conditioning
Small bathroom
- Nikki (8/5): Great location and nice place to stay. - Location and communication was good. We were using the pull out couch for our daughter but there was
no extra linen to make up the bed.
- Anna (10/5): - Et fantastisk sted i byen. Dejlig central beliggenhed, og faciliteterne så gode - særligt køkkenet og terrassen. Evt. et ønske om aircondition. Ellers absolut intet kan forbedres.
- Rachel (9/5): Great location, great hosts, clean apartment. - Location was brilliant. We had 6 adults, 3 couples, everything was great, apartment was very clean and tidy. Loved the upstairs balcony outdoor space, and the kitchen had 4 everything we needed for our 2 night stay. Only negative was that the bathroom was small and 6 adults sharing one bathroom was difficult at times but over all was very good.
- Michelle (3/5): - Location was fantastic close to bridge and circular quay. My daughter got bed bug bites. Door locked and daughter got stuck in there so had to break door open. We understand it was a historical house but it came down to my children's safety. Toilet light blew so when things like this happen who do u call and we had tried to contact the owners eith no response was very frustrating.
- Valerie (5/5): We managed and we did have a great time in Sydney. Was a good location. Love the Rocks. - Location was good. Was a reasonable size except for the bathroom which tiny. Needed a lot doing to it. Old carpet old Lino in the kitchen, extremely tiny bathroom with an old ripped shower curtain. Had a good TV and did have some historical interest.
- Rochelle (7/5): -
- Craig (8/5): -
- Geoff (9/5): - Great location , very convenient Lack of aircon, but with the fans on and some airflow we coped . Was extra hot outside though.
- Deleceps (10/5): -
- seonaid (9/5): Location, location, location. Wine bar across the road. Nice space to chill after a busy day - would definitely recommen - Great communication from owner, location absolutely amazing, plenty space for everyone. House was a bit hot and sweaty even with the fans.
- Richard (10/5): Great location, great host. It was all very easy - location was brilliant - house was very very clean nothing - it was spot on. Only thing was not being able to lock the front door from the inside so that being picky
- Katie (8/5): -
- Jennifer (9/5): Great apartment in a perfect location - The location could not be better. It’s a historic building from the early 1900s. Walkable to everywhere. The bathrooms were tiny and awkward
- DARRYL (9/5): -
- Chris (8/5): -
- Napier (5/5): Dissappointing - Location was good. The unit was cold, a little dirty, heaters broken, cockroaches in the downstairs kitchen, TV didn’t work, blood stains on Duvet (maybe from bed bugs), toilet seat slightly broken, dust and rubbish under both beds See above
- Johanna (6/5): Conveniently located, quiet comfortable, clean, spacious. Beware of stairs when navigating suitcases - Conveniently located: 10 minute walk to Circular Quay / pubs nearby for eating out Location: Need to be fit to walk up to Gloucester St - If walking with suitcases from Circular Quay, note that there are some steep sections as well as staircases to navigate! Not knowing about this we had caught train from airport and walked from Circular Quay - MISTAKE! Thankfully we accidentally found out about the elevator from Harrington to Gloucester.
Had some hot weather: hence it made it rather uncomfortable that the ceiling fans / lights for the 2 upstairs bedrooms did not work independently of each other!
In the absence of airconditioning it would have been great if there had been some way of allowing fresh air into the unit
Top bed sheets would have been appreciated as well as some cotton blankets
Bathroom: Shower curtain sub-standard: already ripped away from appr. 3 curtain rings from day we entered
Bathroom: No spare hand towels - we were there for 7 days!
Bathroom: no spare bin bag
Kitchen: No hand towel at all in kitchen; only 1 very thin poor quality teatowel which soon started to smell.
Kitchen: A decent sized roll of paper towels would have been welcome; no spare bin bags
Kitchen: advertised as well appointed kitchen; fairly basic - e.g. no measuring cups, grater
Kitchen: cockroach baits would be a good idea!
Bedroom near front door: a small bedside table on fireplace side would be handy
- smelter (2/5): OVERPRICED- old and could do with a decent clean - Location was good BUT directly opposite a noisy pub! NOT clean! HOT was not advised about no aircon which was worse in 43 degree heat.
Noisy!!!!
- Joanne (7/5): Great location, clean and comfortable. - Location Noise from pub across the road (can’t be helped).
- Doraine (7/5): Hard to beat the LOCATION for the price - Location was the best! Next to an amazing bar and walked everywhere. It was kinda fun staying in a historical site. Had a convenient laundry room. No air conditioning but had plenty of fans. No closets or dressers. I understand that it was an historical site but it needs more repairs.
- Vicki (6/5): Was comfortable but lacked any character…overpriced for what was included. - Location is great Upstairs bathroom was tiny. Only one bedside lamp in the main bedroom that is broken. Barely any tea in the pantry.
- Melissa (8/5): -
- Jacobus (8/5): -
- Margaret (9/5): The door was minor issues. Our stay was fabulous. - Location was very central to Circular Quay. Only issue was lots & lots of stairs to climb. Struggled with luggage. Back door didn’t lock.
- Shayuri (9/5): - Great Location. Helpful Staff. Comfortable space. Australia's summer heat can get unberable and the fans work amazing but additional cooling facilities may be required in future.
- Oanh (10/5): Good - Near the central Có côn trùng nhiều và cắn chúng tôi. Mềm cũng ngứa
- Albert and Lourene (6/5): Great location, central public transport. Other issues will prevent me from staying again. - Location was great and central and good access to public transport. Access fairly easy once you worked out which of the 4 key boxes belonged to the unit. How to get there was well described, alerting to steps etc.
Size of the bedrooms , lounge and kitchen great. Kitchen well equipped as far as utensils. Nice outdoor balcony, although no real view except the walls of other blocks.
Aircon in kitchen worked well - but note kitchen upstairs and no other air-conditioning in unit - thus does not reach bedrooms or lounge downstairs.
We had some maintenance issues, but it was followed up promptly. The bathrooms were minute with it being impossible to was your face or shave for that matter at the basin; as the overhead bathroom cupboard prevented you from getting you face/ head over the basin. The upstairs barhroom you have to straddle the toilet to get to basin. The drainage in main downstairs shower did not work adequately resulting in the floor being flooded. This was attended too the next day.
On arrival the bedroom upstairs had a blind that was pulled up and could not come down due to faulty mechanism - thus slept with street lights shining into bedroom all night. Fixed the next day.
Coffee maker was there , but not a coffee machine but a plunger. For this price I expect a coffee maker with complementary starter pack. Same with no coffee, sugar, milk supplied for first night - which is the first time ever in my travels booking a unit that this was not the case. Such a simple thing that could make such a difference to welcoming people and making it easier upon arrival.
It would be lovely to have a cloth/ sponge to wash dishes with ( yes there is a dishwasher but I do not run it for a few dishes) ; which I requested, but did not get.
One of the bedrooms has no access to be able to open up windows for fresh air, although all rooms had fans. The room's walls were all patched up, looking like they are in the middle of a small renovation , Carpets not been vacuumed.
None of these are major, but all put together it was a disappointing rental. I will not stay there again .
- John (7/5): Great place close to the centre of Sydney - Location and character are good Bathroom is in need of renovation
- Kenneth (7/5): Great location and OK for a short stay - Great location Pokey bathroom
- Linda (8/5): Fantastic location, great price. - Location location location!! Fantastic!!
Pub over the road - storage facility near by! Very roomy bedrooms. Kitchen upstairs, lounge downstairs with toilet right next to it. Smallish lounge. Lugging suitcases upstairs and down to get to apartment (but only have to do this once!!)
- Matti (7/5): Hyvä budjettikohde loistavalla sijainnilla - Loistava sijainti
Hommat toimivat sovitusti Vähän parhaat päivänsä nähnyt huoneisto.
Parisänky oli vähän liian kapea
- Hoa (10/5): -
- Gaye (6/5): Great Rocks location - Wonderful location at The Rocks. The stove needs to be replaced. It’s awful.
- Judith (1/5): Poor - The location It was so hot inside and they only had fans.
The bathroom needs a good scrub.
- Deanna (1/5): Photos are not what you get . - Yes it was quite easy to get the key from the locked box . The photo's of the place weren't accurate from the place that we stay in . The house was very dusty that you could write your name in it . The double bed was as hard so we put another doona down to sleep . The courtyard was filthy even a piece of rusty wire on the ground . The bathroom was very old and had black mould in it .We stayed there as we were going on a cruise for 2 week's so I Message Steph when we got back and her reply about it was why didn't we let her know earlier even though I told her we had been on a cruise for 2 week's . She said she would have sent a cleaner out to the unit but I did not want to be disturbed as we had a lot plan for the days we were there . I have never had to write a bad review before but I did give her time to rectify it . Deanna
- Lesley (3/5): In need of a major clean , not value for money - Location Place was run down, dirty, shabby, did not reflect the photos on bookings.com, definitely not 5 star
- Ben (9/5): -
- Graham (5/5): -
- Veronika (7/5): Nice - Great location very close an easy stroll to all of the major attractions & the area being older had a great ambiance
The beds were very comfortable and the shower was fantastic very hot and very strong We sure that the toilets and the bath get cleaned regularly but nothing has been done in a very long time with the very crappy and very old and grubby shower curtain all the windowsills or the skirting boards not very pleasant at all maybe some fold up tables so you had some bench space in the bathroom 20 bucks at IKEA I'm sure we do it. The lighting is pretty much worthless the bulbs are very weak so it's very dark in the place.
Word of warning the pub across the road albeit handy and the wine club meeting at the wine bar regularly + the foot traffic and then the neighbours next-door partying till 3 - 4 o'clock in the morning if you're sensitive to that sort of stuff you are not going to enjoy it, it was difficult but we managed just be warned it's not pleasant.
A recommendation it wouldn't hurt if the property had a lock up luggage storage in the front on the decking which is not used, a lock up at an extra cost it would make it that little bit more guest friendly instead of having to leave at 11 o'clock and drag your luggage around we know there are alternatives but that would've been an easy fix for everyone and a revenue stream for you but you missed it !
- Danielle (8/5): -
- Corina (10/5): -
- Greg (4/5): Very disappointing - Location Good location but:
Very dirty throughout. Razor blades found in the ground floor bathroom.
Rubbish found throughout the apartment from previous occupants; bottle tops, etc.
A receipt was found in the downstairs bedroom dated 9 September.
Cockroaches rampant on the external upstairs balcony area.
Bathrooms are way too small; difficult to get into the room.
Upstairs bathroom shower does not have a shelf for soap, shampoo etc.
Upstairs bathroom basin is mounted on top of the toilet cistern with a vanity cabinet mounted over it making the basin very difficult to use.
Terrible toilet flushing system, very noisy.
There were squashed mosquitoes on the walls and bed sheets; disgusting.
Some external windows and doors do not lock.
Bedroom upstairs no cupboards and draws.
No fly screens on windows.
Very noisy location opposite “The Australian Pub”; need ear plugs to sleep.
Dilapidated interior; lots of cracked timber trims needing repair.
Very disappointing.
- Connie (4/5): Nice location, - 3 bedrooms was good. Bugs everywhere, no window for bathroom, shower screen completely shattered on my daughter and I. A lot smaller than originally thought. Very noisy as pub across the road + heard constant thumping in nearby townhouses.
- Mariela Esther (9/5): Todo genial! - Excelente ubicación, amplio, buena cocina, lavadero, Faltaría otro baño considerando que es amplio y para varias personas y lugar de guardado de ropa
- Quang (9/5): - The location, the support from host and the facilities. All worth the money. Not much, but more air-con would be great.
- Stacey (8/5): - Fabulous location Shower pressure was not that great
- Tracey (10/5): Great property, excellent location. - Awesome location. Great property for a girls trip.
- Catherine (10/5): - Location ideal.Everthing close just a short walk.Quiet even though there is a pub across the road.Terrace great for meals and so close yet far enough away from main CBD and places of interest. Second level bags up and down stairs was awkward.
Even though everything is close if you don't have the right footwear the cobblestones, stairs and mini hills at the rocks could be an issue but close enough to grab a bus, cab or uber if that is an issue.
- Mark (10/5): - Great lication. Very good communication throughout. Would thoroughly recommend
- 용욱 (10/5): -
- Kia (9/5): -
- Nick (9/5): Great hosts, very easy to deal with great house in a fantastic area loved it - Location is amazing Only tiny little things. Door handle fell off and woke wife up. Remote to turn fan off needs a new battery
- Katrina (10/5): We enjoyed our stay immensely. Fabulous location & very clean & tidy house. Would highly recommend. - Fabulous location. Very clean & tidy. Great communication with check in. N/A
- Ash (1/5): This place needs a deep clean and maintenance - The location was fantastic, I had read bad reviews on the noise but it wasn’t a problem either of the nights. Wednesday-Saturday The cleanliness of the property, sheets had marks and the dust was unbearable. The carpets are so old and gross, really need replacing.
- Emma (6/5): Great location - but needed a deep clean - Great location for exploring Sydney and we loved the historic property. Tea bags, coffee, milk and sugar were provided (albeit the sugar was in a half used bag that someone had clearly used a dirty spoon in). The kitchen had everything we needed for our short stay. The facilities were dated (rusty cooker and shower rail, noisy tumble dryer) and the property needed a deep clean (it was surface clean but there was thick dust behind the beds and in the corners/on TV unit and the washing machine needed a cleaner before using). The property itself was quiet but located opposite a noisy pub, albeit it closed promptly at 10pm.
- Donna (8/5): The Rocks is a lovely area but be warned, it is quite hilly & lots of steps so be prepared! - The location was good, close to everything & the property was very clean, spacious & quiet. The second bathroom is tiny so we only used it as a last resort
- munez (9/5): -
- Aoife (8/5): Really loved the location, interior and the ease of access, didn’t love the loud bar across the road at 1am. - Loved the location and the house itself was lovely and homely. There is a bar across the road that is (obviously) very loud at night. Not the worst if you’re in the back room, but if you’re in the bedroom at the front and you have to wake up early for something - not great.
- Luke (9/5): - No cutlery at all, very strange
- steve (9/5): Contented renters. - Nice accommodation, nice big rooms and great location. Nothing.
- Jacqui (4/5): Not worth the money - Location was great. Town house needs some love. Shower curtain is mouldy, rusty waste bin, carpets dusty, no tv remote even though there was a review mid july to state the same thing. Host took forever to get back to messages. Also had a window fall from its frame during our stay.
- Jasper (10/5): Exceptional - Great location and lovely clean apartment
- Adam (10/5): Exceptional -
- Rhiannon (7/5): Good -
- Zane (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ruth (8/5): Lovely place for central Sydney - Lovely property in a great location. The bedrooms were spacious and the little balcony was perfect for a morning coffee. Tiny bathroom for a family space and could have had better kitchen items.
- Eddie (7/5): Good - Location was fantastic. Property needs maintenance to make it pleasurable to stay.ie lights not working cabinets need repairing
Make the property feel fresher.
- David (7/5): Good value in great location, enjoyed it. - Great location, comfy beds. Big couches and TV in lounge. Welcome bottle of wine. Be aware front bedroom gets a lot of street noise on weekend nights. Steep stairs down to kitchen. Rusty shower rail and rusty cooker.
- Francoise (8/5): The best place to start exploring Sydney - Location-location-location!!! Minor complaint about a bed a bit hard…
- Janey67 (7/5): Fabulous Location but needed a clean - The location is perfect, Stephanie was wonderful to deal with and incredibly helpful. There is a pub across the road that does get noisy on a Friday and Saturday night but inside the property is very quiet. Everything you need is within walking distance. The property could do with a clean. Whilst it looked clean when you walked in, all the pictures on the walls are very dirty, the door to the bathroom upstairs was very dirty as were the skirting boards, the lounge had crumbs and food in between the cushions.
The bathrooms are very small and there is no counter space, the upstairs bathroom is not ideal, we used the sink in the kitchen as there was a tiny sink on top of the toilet cistern, which is not ideal at all.
There was no remote for the television, the oil column heater in the lounge didn't work at all. Whilst there were a few tea bags and half a jar of coffee there was no sugar or milk in the fridge, to be fair I am not sure if this was meant to be included, although it should be.
We were a little disappointed.
- Rachael (10/5): Our stay excellent. Highly recommend -
- Nigel (4/5): Disappointing -
- Lesley (9/5): Superb - Warm and cosy, close to everything
- Mark (7/5): We had a pleasant stay and loved how close we were to everything. - The location was fantastic- close to many iconic Sydney sights. The host was really prompt to answer questions or to act on any issues.
- Nic (9/5): Superb - Amazing location in the Rocks. The bedrooms were very comfortable and the kitchen had everything you could need. Lots of character and excellent communication from the hosts.
- Craig (7/5): Overall, we enjoyed our stay. The location really is unbeatable, and it was a unique experience to stay in such a histor - Wow — the location of this terrace townhouse on Gloucester Street couldn’t have been better! Right in the heart of The Rocks, it was an easy walk to Circular Quay, the Opera House, the Harbour Bridge, and all the cool spots Sydney has to offer. The house itself was large and well-appointed, providing a comfortable base for exploring the city. Staying in a heritage property added a lot of charm to our trip
A useful tip for future guests: if you’re travelling with heavy bags, there’s an elevator that can take you down to Harrington Street and help you avoid all the stairs — it’s just past the steps to the right of the terrace houses. We were very glad to find it! However, the place could definitely do with a bit of a revamp and freshen-up to really bring it back to life.
A few things to be aware of:
• On arrival, the three different lockboxes on the front porch caused some confusion as we tried to find the right one.
• With only one bathroom (and the toilet in the same space), it was a bit of a juggle for four people, especially in the mornings.
• Bedrooms were quite small and had no storage space, which might be tricky for longer stays if you’ve got a lot of luggage.
• At night, the alley behind and the street in front can get noisy thanks to the nearby pubs and people out partying. The windows are quite thin, so earplugs are a good idea if you’re a light sleeper.
