Guest Reviews
- Ping Yue (10/5): Extremely pleasant stay complete with a most hospitable host who is also a great cook! - Location. Walking distance to town centre and major attractions including Scenic World. Cannot think of any.
- PralinkaProductions (4/5): Spacious, quirky apartment let down by inadequate heating. - Location: on Lurline Street, right next to a bus stop and just a 15min walk to both, the Three Sisters or to the centre of Katoomba.
Parking: free street parking is available (the owner is using the driveway).
“The apartment” is spacious (100m2), even though it is just a part of a larger, heritage listed home. It has a private entrance, comprises of one bedroom with an en suite wet room, a living room and a patio.
Decore: very eclectic, kind of quirky and colourful.
Amenities: a bar fridge, microwave, toaster and kettle. Limited cutlery. Tea, coffee and milk are provided.
Complementary WiFi The house is old and there are gaps under all doors and windows. The heating provided is inadequate for the area. The space heater in the bedroom relies on a battery system and is switched off during the night to conserve power. The owner operates the bedroom heater via WiFi and the guests have no direct control over its operation. We were advised we could use the remote control to turn the heater on whenever we wanted, but that did not work and the owner refused to turn it on during the night. Electric blankets were not enough to keep us warm when the temperature in the room dropped down to 3 degrees. The kitchenette air conditioner blew against a wall in a very small space, so it kept switching off and took a long time to warm the living area. The bathroom was also very cold, as the small heater could not warm the large room adequately. If you need to use the bathroom during the night, you will be frozen. The shower is fixed to the wall and height cannot be adjusted, so you either get your hair wet or hold the shower head while washing. There is only a tiny sink in the bathroom and the lighting is quite poor. Even though there is a “kitchenette”, there is no sink, meaning dishes must be washed in the tiny bathroom sink or cleaned by the owner. Guests must sign extensive house rules before check-in, including restrictions on visitors. On one occasion, after returning from a long hike with friends, we briefly invited them inside while we changed before dinner because it was very cold outside. Within minutes, the owner messaged us reminding us of the rules and asking our friends to leave immediately. Even after we explained the situation, we were told they need to wait outside the property. We found the handling of this situation unnecessarily rude, given the low temperature outside.
The owner lives on the property, separated only by double doors, and noise travels easily, so the accommodation did not feel fully private. WiFi was also unavailable on arrival.
- Elise (10/5): Peaceful and pretty - Jilea was lovely and the place was so beautiful. I was there for a creative escape - to get some writing done - and it was perfect for that (1st draft done!)
- Dale (10/5): Loved the host, the bed was very comfortable & amazingly decorated. - Location to main town sights & parking close by. Small kitchen area & the lounge was uncomfortable.
- Katrina (10/5): A beautiful boho treasure in the centre of Katoomba. My daughter and I stayed here for a girl’s weekend and lived everyt - Beautiful boho decor and homely feel. Excellent location close to 3 Sisters. -
- Swostika (10/5): Only thing we can say is, we are definitely coming back soon. - Absolutely amazing stay.
The location was great. Very quiet and cozy. The vibes are off the charts as it was exactly what we were looking for. The host was really kind, helpful, and welcoming. She made sure that we were warm and had cozy stay with extra heating options (including blankets, hot bags).
Honestly, the hospitality was one of the most kind and best one we've ever experienced. We are definitely coming back! Everything was absolutely great.
- Trevor (9/5): Classic blue mountains accommodation. Full of charm and quirk decorations. - Excellent location Open shower as water runs through about one third of floor area.
- Dianne (8/5): Too short - Individual, intimate, ever fascinating. Walking distance from restaurants and shops. Easy parking. My husband
- Katie (10/5): Beautiful space, warm hospitality and great location. - Everything! Comfortable, inviting and creatively decorated to feel like our very own pied a terre. Our host, Jilea communicated perfectly, kept us warm and welcomed. Her common sense policies meant we enjoyed our stay and felt comfortable knowing we’d be warm and cosy when needed.
While very close to town, the apartment is quiet overnight and during the day, public transport is easy to access and parking was simple.
- Leonie (10/5): - I loved the decor. Charming little place for a weekend getaway
- Gail (4/5): I would be hard pushed to recommend this place as I dreaded going back to it in the evening - It had a quirky charm There was no central heating and the bathroom was freezing. The owner also gave us a lot of instructions about when we could have the heating on. We actually left a night early and booked in somewhere more comfortable
- Collins (10/5): Clean, cosy, friendly - Clean, cosy, friendly host and great location
- Karl (3/5): Uncomfortable stay. - Location close to viewing sites and the town center. Upon arrival our check in was a run down of how to use heaters, then the golden decorative pillows where taken Off the bed and put into a cupboard (not sure if we where allowed to use them) the sheets where damp, when i booked i asked if this will be private and for a couple I was informed then it will be in a separate level of the house. The house was old and the owner was on the other side of a stained glass door. Not on another level This is a late 1900's weather board building and you can hear through wall easily No privacy the verandah and path was full of leaves and untidy the lounges where old and uncomfortable the heating was terrible. No curtains just draping blankets that could be seen through. And when we returned back to the house coming through the front door the owner opened the other door to give us milk, (with no knock) also in the wardrobe there was a vented area that allowed for all your bedroom conversations to be shared with who ever was on the otherside of the wall. No coffee provided. Also the throws used over the lounges left your cloths with hair all over them. The cups and glasses needed rinsing from dust and hair in them.
Over all not to bad but the issue of privacy and cleanliness was concerning.
- Daryl (10/5): Blue Mountains Charm - Our host went the extra mile to welcome my wife and I on arrival. She took the time to explain everything we needed to know and even shared some local knowledge on good spots for dining out and coffee.
The unit was comfy, clean and we loved how the place was decorated. The bedroom and bathroom were huge. We loved our short stay and highly recommend this place for couples looking for something very different compared to normal hotel rooms. Close to shops and dining in Katoomba and close to Echo Point. Nothing to really note. We enjoyed our stay.
- Ingred (1/5): Bad - Smelt like wet dog, gross. filthy. Owner demanded cvc and credit card numbers 48 hours before our stay. Left after having asthma, allergies, weird bites and hives. Matress on bed was literally 50yrs old and smelt very bad. Owner lives behind single glass fronted door to your area.- no privacy.
- Karin (6/5): Pleasant -
- Wendy (9/5): Beautiful place to stay - wonderful location, sumptuously decorated and very comfortable. - Beautiful place to stay - wonderful location, sumptuously decorated and very comfortable.
- Haran (9/5): Very pleasant -
- Dacillo (10/5): Lovely break from the city life. - Besides the rustic beauty of the place and central to most of the tourist attractions, Jilea welcomed my wife & I with a lovely smile & very lively character. Very lovely lady! We surely recommend the place to everyone who wish to have a break from the city life.
Thanks Jilea for the delicious macademia cheesecake too. We hope to see you again! N/A
- Carla (10/5): Exceptional - Our stay was so cozy and enjoyable, the apartment was so beautiful and the host so easy to reach and kind :)
- Sayet (5/5): Passable - The fact that we couldn't adjust the heater yourself in the room. Ended up freezing everytime you come back to the property or before going to bed.
- Donna (6/5): Basic but with character - Great central position Property very cold, although heated throw provided for when sitting on the lounge (lounge is in a breezeway so draughty). Bathroom freezing & hot water took significant time to come through. No blinds on the windows. Note: Owner charges 3.7% on top of the actual booking costs which is taken out of $450 security bond. This additional cost will also be applied if you pay the security deposit by cc. Both of these charges are only made known to you after you have paid the non-refundable booking costs.
- Marc (8/5): Very good -
- Imogen (9/5): Lovely place - heritage home with lovely decor - Lovely space - unique details and great vibe Not a dislike but you just need to remember the mountains are cold and it is a heritage home. Utilise the blankets and you will cosy as.
- Gaby (8/5): Very good -
- Camilla (9/5): Superb - Very well located property walking distance to all Katoomba attractions. Chinoiserie was nice and clean with a comfortable bed. Jilea as host made us very comfortable and her list of Blue Mountain attractions was great - it encouraged us to try a beautiful walk we’d never done before!
- Elisa (9/5): Superb - Jilea is very lovely and welcoming. The location is very convenient and the house has lots of facilities
- Mike (10/5): Very enjoyable stay in a beautiful quirky place with a very hospitable hostess. - Breakfast not included. Location excellent- within walking distance of both the 3 Sisters and town centre, and also had a bus stop nearby.
Jilea was a fantastic host. Friendly and very helpful. Full of excellent advice and local knowledge. Even helped us out with transport for difficult to access locations (we didn’t have a car).
Property full of wonderful quirky things. Very much shabby chic. Jilea obviously puts a lot of time and effort into acquiring beautiful things for her property - such a lovely contrast to some of the characterless corporate places we have stayed in. Her dog Hattie is not allowed in the guest areas, however she was very sweet natured, and we loved meeting her.
Jilea understandably asks for a deposit in advance, to be paid via payment ID. This is not something we have in the UK, and it caused us a bit of anxiety to try to figure it out. Jilea was very understanding about this, and helped us work something out.
Overall the property was very much as described, but Jilea herself was an absolute plus, and made our stay so much more enjoyable. Thank you Jilea - such a pleasure to get to know you. Storage space was limited- we are travelling around for 2 months, so had a lot of stuff with us, and few places to put it. We understand that Jilea is in the process of sorting this out.
There is no kitchen sink available, but this was clear at the time of booking, so was not really an issue for us.
Initially communication with Jilea was hard - the message service with booking.com did not seem to be working well. However, once we were able to exchange phone numbers, Jilea always responded very quickly.
- Eng (8/5): Very good - The location was great.....15 mins walk to town, about 15 mins walk to Three Sisters and Echo point and Katoomba Falls was about 20 mins walk away.
The place was comfortable and the heating worked well. The garden was lush.
Jilea responded to any questions promptly. Before our arrival she sent detailed information about the walks etc so we could plan our days. A kitchen sink would have made things easier.
- Katherine (8/5): Very good - The whole place was an aesthetic pleasure! It was gorgeously designed and a lot of thought and care had gone into this. Loved the bathroom, and how friendly the host Jilea was. She provided us with a lot of information prior to our stay. It is also walking distance to the three sisters and to Katoomba town, with bus stops also located nearby. The only thing I would recommend is finding an easier way for people to pay the security deposit when they are not from Australia. This caused me a lot of anxiety, however Jilea did a great deal to make it as easy as possible.
- Marcial (9/5): Superb -
- Gregory (10/5): Exceptional - Great location - 15 minutes walk from the train station, 15 minutes from The Three Sisters so perfectly placed to explore Katoomba. Jilea was on hand when we arrived so all that was really easy, and she was easy to contact prior to our stay.
- Chris (10/5): A Uniquely decorated property run by a lovely accomodating lady. - A wonderfully quirky and warmly romantic place to stay. Great location to be able to walk to town and echo point. Jilea was a fantastic host, nothing was too much trouble and her obvious love of her home shows in its uniqueness. The property is unique in the amount of fun nicknacks and decor. The location is superb in terms of wlakability between Echo Point and the town.
We went in winter, which of course is cold in the mountains. The heating works well, but it was great that Jilea catered for cold by providing an electric throw in the living room which definitely helped, She also took the time to warn us in advance to bring warm clothes! It definitely did NOT spoil our weekend. Nothing, we had a really fun time!
- Saleha (6/5): Pleasant -
- Ross (5/5): Better options elsewhere. - The location was good. We had to pay a $450 security bond before our stay - we have travelled extensively and have NEVER had to pay a bond before. The apartment was in an old house without proper curtains over the windows and it was hard to keep warm. The heating in the bedroom was controlled by the owner. There were lots of rules we had to follow during our stay.
- Ruth (9/5): Unique - Very unique. A lot of effort has gone into styling this place which makes it stand out from the usual holiday property. The host was very knowledgeable about the area and nothing was too much trouble. The mattress on the bed was too soft for me. Not sure if a new one is needed or if it is just because I am used to a harder bed.
- Shirley (6/5): Pleasant stay - Jilea has tried to create a relaxing environment different to a motel which she has achieved. The colours and textiles are wonderful. Loved the older wooden cabinets and the heated throw blanket. There was always something to catch my eye so enjoyed that immensely. Bedroom is large so heaps of space for bags. Nice outdoor space to relax in. Bathroom is large. Jilea was engaging in her communications. Heating or lack of this. Appears to not be keen on guests using the aircon. Our first night was a cold snap, so no aircon yet lounge located in draft and cool spot in house requiring heavy draps over the French doors to block the chill. Appreciate Jilea providing the throws however the overwhelming odour of moth balls was intense and triggered my allergies.
Microwave is locate opposite side to cabinet with jug toaster etc hence tripping hazard navigating around the lounge with hot stuff to the cabinet.
Bathroom has a wet floor shower so no barriers leaving water to follow the grout between tiles. Some taping on the floor would fix this.
No car parking except out front of neighbours.
All things which are easily fixable would totally enhance this already unique accommodation. If these changes were made then we would definitely return.
- Tan (10/5): Exceptional - Nicely decorated and close to town.
- Kathleen (9/5): Superb - Love the house and decor. Quirky will always do it for me. Plenty of space. Jilea goes out of her way to make you comfortable and deal with any issues that arise. All was good.
- Hope (10/5): A perfect space to relax in luxury after a day of hiking in the most beautiful landscape. - Chinoiserie is perfectly located and beautifully managed to allow you to make the most of the area. It's quick and easy to access both the local town centre and the incredible hiking trails. The host has paid great attention to detail and understands how to make sure your stay is exactly what you need it to be.
- Rohit (10/5): wonderful - a unique place to chill out. we want when it was raining for the most of the time. the chinoiserie was an amazing place to cuddle up and hear the rain. every corner of this amazing place has a cute and unique curios to keep us occupied. would definitely recommend this amazing hidden secret.
- Elke (10/5): Exceptional -
- Roderick (8/5): Short stay - Location. Unique rooms. Host was welcoming. The rooms are comfortable & clean. With nice furnishings. Reasonably quiet & sleep is ok bed is comfortable. Ok value for short stays. 👌 Television a bit difficult as not familiar with Apple TV. The kettle lid came off after making coffee. The property is unique I liked it but if you want all the bells &whistles I'm not so sure.
- Red (10/5): This was a charming accomodation, art filled, lovely, witty and helpful hostess, despite the hours - We liked and we were impressed by the artistic taste of the hostess Jilea, she was an amazing and helpful lady
- Mary (10/5): Jilea was the perfect hostess, she even made us some delish Vegan dumplings. Recommended to all. -
- Jen (10/5): so relaxed after our stay. thanks - stunning decor, lots of love and thought went into this space. it’s gorgeous! and most importantly such a lovely lady to deal with. would have liked if the black out blind was a bigger curtain, just to keep the street light out.
- Karen (10/5): Exceptional - Jilea was a lovely host, the accommodation was very comfy, warm and clean. Definitely recommend we will be back!
- Songlin (9/5): Great experience, perfect choice for short stay - Jilea gave us a very warm welcome and showed us around, recommending us places to go on rainy days and sunny days. The place was built during world war 2 but very well-maintained, stylish and artistic. None
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional - The Host Jilea aas amazing! Such a sweet and kind person. The space was so cute! Great location, amazing host. Would visit again. A bit of dog hair around made my allergies act up, but beyond that it was perfect.
- Tracy (2/5): disappointing would not recommend - location - walking distance to Katoomba village and Echo Point unclean - lounge room has a strong dog smell which was difficult to be in
no sink to wash up dishes
bathroom was extremely cold
not much privacy - could hear owner coughing and dog running around all night
cupboards full of personal belongings
definitely not boutique style as suggested in the write up
