- Marshall (7/5): Quirky apartment in great location would have been a 10/10 if it had been well cleaned. - Fantastic location, patio with great view, host met us to provide keys and accommodated early check in. Well furnished, quirky loft apartment. Concerns for cleanliness, trash bags with stinky food left next to couch and several long hairs on top sheet of bed. No window covering even in bathroom. Sink leaks in bathroom.

- Tracy (6/5): For the price I’d pass. - Great location in old town, and sensational views from the terrace. Comfortable living space with a smart TV. V Comfy bed once you have risked your life on the ladder of death! The place had an overwhelming odour, musty and like sewerage. The only way I could alleviate the smell was to leave the living room windows open - meaning it was like an igloo and cold.
No kettle, no coffee machine, pots to use to boil water were all dirty with mould spots.
Loft bedroom, I knew about and anticipated but those stairs are seriously something else! It’s more like a ladder…… I stayed in winter so it was warm in the loft.
I was shown to the loft by an assistant from the furniture shop…… and the windy way up - round here, through here, was pretty tricky after a few gluhwine at the Christmas markets!
No curtain in living room is weird…… as it’s the only place you can actually dress given not even Hercules could get a suitcase up the ladder of death.

- Doris (10/5): Delightful modernised unit in a 1600 building with awesome views. - The location was amazing, the old charm of the building and the unit was delightful. The use of the balcony over looking the Salzach and the Kapuzinerberg was a wonderful surprise. Nothing, We absolutely loved the old world charm.
- julia (8/5): - Great location
Lovely historic building Very steep stairs up to the loft bedroom - not good for seniors
People on the terrace right outsde the living room window
- Drusilla (6/5): - Excellent location. Nice view and plenty of space. At agreed check in time of 3pm it had not been serviced following previous tennant. Cleaner finally came at 7pm so we did not get our room till 8pm .Bathroom needed improved ventilation and it smelt musty. Bed was a mattress on the floor up a steep staircase and the ceiling too low for an adult to stand.
- Jenny (3/5): A big mistake - Location Golden rule. Read the reviews before booking here. My biggest mistake booking Alter Markt Loft.
Location is excellent but the living room doesn’t look like the picture shown on booking site.
This place is good for people who
1. Don't mind sleeping on the floor mattresses on a Loft with the ceiling almost on your face
2. Don't mind climbing up a set skinny steep steps onto the loft and crawl on all four towards your floor mattresses. If you are big in size I would say look elsewhere.
3. Are small in size so you can close the shower doors. If you are big forget about getting a shower there.
3. Don't mind no curtains on the windows on the main floor or on the Loft.
4. Don't have heavy suitcase as there are some steps to get to 5th floor as the lift only takes you upto 4th and a few twist and turn to reach your Loft apartment.
Note there is no reception and no one to call after hours or weekend. All the ceiling lights not working on a Friday night. Only able to talk to someone downstairs on Tuesday. Lived in a cave like loft for 4 nights.
Not sure how it works if you want to check in after 6pm.
There is a large sectioned off balcony to hold your evening candle light dinner. Very nice uninterrupted view.
I booked hastily due to my sudden change of travel plan. But if given another chance I will look elsewhere. Overall it gets 3/10 for the location
And be careful if checking out outside business hours. Get clear instructions from the shop people downstairs how to leave keys outside business hours
- Werner (8/5): - Location was great. Pricy for a loft arrangement, no salt and pepper and no oil for cooking..
All facilities there but no essentials, for that heavy price we understood that salt and pepper could have been available.
- Tina (5/5): Great location poor value for money. - Close to the old town The apartment needed updating. The stairs to the bedroom area is a ladder not suitable for anyone with mobility restraints.
- Norbert (7/5): -
- Leonie (7/5): Quirky in great location - Situated in the heart of the Old Town. Everything was in walking distance. Quirky loft apartment. Shower very small, if I was any larger I would not have fit through opening. We dubbed the stairs up into the sleeping loft "the stairs of death" as they were so steep.
- David (5/5): Not a good place to stay in the summer - Amazing location which you can’t beat. Right in the heart of everything.
The TV was very nice and it had a balcony with a great view This is a loft, which we knew, but the bed (which is on the floor), is in a small, stuffy, and incredibly hot attic with absolutely zero ventilation or windows upstairs.
It was over 80° when we stayed and we could not stay up there at night. We slept on the pullout couch’s bed (which was a different couch than the one pictured in the listing), but the bed was incredibly uncomfortable and seemed old.
Sheets had stains
There is an ac unit, but it has a tube attached which you need to stick out the window, forcing you to let in hot air. We had to stick the tube out the window and try to cover the rest of the window with a towel. The tube going into the AC is not connected by anything and kept falling out.
Shower does not close properly
One of us got burned becuase the water heater was set all the way up to nearly boiling and the shower switches from hot to cold randomly
No body wash or hand soap provided, just dish soap
There was a plastic razor cap in the shower, which made it seem like they didn’t clean
The pipes under the sink have a drip and instead of fixing it, they put a bucket underneath it to catch water
Maybe becuase of this leak or for another reason, the bathroom smells like sewage
There is no privacy as there are no curtains and the window looks out to the shared patio space.
Need to both open and lock three doors to enter place, all with a key. It feels like a labyrinth to get to the place.
- Cathie (9/5): great place to stay in Salzburg - the location was excellent it was just a bit hot upstairs for sleeping
- Chax (10/5): Exceptional stay - Exceptional response and help provided. Everything wsx persfect
- Karan (9/5): Superb -
- Keith (9/5): Superb -
- Sunny (10/5): We enjoyed our stay and would stay here again. - VERY centrally located & easy access to public transportation. Great views from the rooftop terrace.
- Molly (8/5): Very good - Perfect location. It’s didn’t come with any body wash type thing and the shower was broken
- Mark (10/5): A comfortable stay in the heart of Salzburg - The location was perfect and the accommodation had a lovely rooftop terrace area overlooking the river. The accommodation itself was ideal for a city break; it was warm and comfortable. There wasn't really anything that I didn't like, and to find something would just be very picky. Overall it was lovely accommodation.
- Vondráček (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lindsay (7/5): Good -
- Ian (8/5): Nice...but - It's a great location, couldn't ask for a better place to be. Hosts were good and were responsive and helpful when I needed assistance. Living area was good with everything necessary and nicely furnished. Terrace had fabulous views and was very relaxing. Lots of good food options within walking distance. Mattress was on the floor, stairs very narrow and steep and loft ceiling was very low, making the loft space all but useless for someone of my age (60+). Consequently, I slept on the sofa. I do accept some responsibility for not following my own rules of no lofts and have adjusted my rating up accordingly.
The shower has a very narrow gap to get in, definitely not an easy task if you are carrying a few extra kilos.
- Katerina (8/5): Nice and cozy place for couple romantic days in Salzburg. - Excellent location, comfy loft, phenomenal terrace with cool view, perfect for morning yoga and evening barbecue. Equipment would definitely profit from couple of hours of handy maintanance worker - the toilett seat is torn off, the sink drain is leaking, the fridge freezes instead of cooling.
- Steph (1/5): definitely not recommended - the location and terrace are great Almost everything else was not good.
dust everywhere even covering the coffee machine and we couldn't sleep on bed because of the strong dust smell even after we asked for cleaning. Also, the bed is in the attic and when the weather is hot, the bed area was also very warm. No ventilation near the bed other than a very small fan. There were also small insects crawling in the attic. We ended up sleeping on the floor in the living area and got a lot of back pain.
The toilet is also not very clean. The shower already has some molds and the toilet bowl needs deep cleaning.
no amenities not even few coffee pods for the coffee machine and no soap or gel for showering.
no curtains on the window while the terrace is shared so there's no sense of privacy
- Anne (9/5): Superb -
- Shadi (8/5): Amazing location, lovely facility. Would recommend. - The location and the views from the terrace are superb. Can’t beat the location. Tastefully decorated and easy check in/out. Charming, full of old world character, but modernized. The unit is at the very top floor with many steps and no elevator. The bed is also in the loft with steep stairs. It worked fine for us, but not good for people with mobility issues. Also bring shampoo and conditioner. Hand sope and fish soap was provided.
- M (9/5): Superb - The loft is very well located in the very center of town. It is very comfortable and we had a lovely stay.
- Lowri (5/5): Passable -
- Daniel (6/5): Pleasant - The location was very convenient, the place was very clean and the heating and shower worked perfectly. Nobody showed me the way in or out the Loft through the stairs…so one night that I got there, the elevator wasn’t working and I spent half an hour trying to find out if my key gave me access to the stairs which had like 3 doors that were locked. I don’t think is a big deal, but in the case of something like an emergency or a fire it would have been a big issue..
- Melanie (9/5): Amazing location! - The location is amazing!!! The shower could do with fixing and I didn’t know the bed was on the floor- that info might have helped.
- Frances (4/5): Great location but no sleep in a boiling hot attic. - Great location but the sleeping arrangements are awful, tiniest attic with a mattress on floor and like a sauna - unbearably hot so had to sleep on couch downstairs. Really steep stairs to the attic, i was scared I would fall down them during the night going the loo! Also broken tv, they did not repair. However the lounge and other facilities are nice and so is the outside terrace. The location is brilliant but if you like a good nights rest do not stay here. Broken tv, very steep staircase, boiling hot attic, mattress on attic floor, I'm only 5ft 3 and banged my head a couple of times on the one night I stayed in the attic, had to stay on couch after that.
- Josh (9/5): Superb -
- Edimilson (10/5): Exceptional - The place is very nice. It has a balcony that has an awesome view of the city. The entrance was a little complicated. I felt like a 007 movie...lol. At the end, all went well.
- Camper1 (6/5): Pleasant - Location Low ceiling in loft
Very hot
- Neil (1/5): Can’t recommend this accommodation. - A good location. Very poor. A typical tourist take. It’s all been said before, I should have read more pages of reviews instead of just the first few. Room has the bedroom in the attic, which is accessed via a very steep stair/ladder. The attic is very stuffy and hot due no windows and no air con. Ceiling is so low, you have to move around the bedroom on your hands and knees. Beds are just mattresses on the floor. I have no idea how this room was every passed by the council as habitable accommodation. Bedroom was so hot and uncomfortable that, like other guests, we also had to take the 2 single mattresses down the very steep stairs to sleep on the lounge room floor.
Bathroom door, shower screen and bathroom sink tap are broken and appear to have been this way for ages judging by past reviews. The door to the terrace, which is outside the apartment was also broken and tied closed with rope. We lasted one night and having had enough, we moved to a hotel room. Worst accommodation we’ve ever stayed in.
- Mona (5/5): Perfect situated location but I wouldn’t attend it a second time. - The location was situated perfectly. The terrace was quite nice. It wasn’t clean, there was a lot of dust in the carpet floor, so that I couldn’t breathe easily, I got a asthma attack 2 from 3 nights.
It was a bit dirty, it was very hot in the sleeping room and there is no window, so you can’t get fresh air. The dishes have been dirty, maybe from the former users of the apartment. The door to the terrace was broken, not maintained well. We waited for the hosts to explain them which doesn’t work, but they didn’t repaired it at our stay or didn’t give us no compensation. I wouldn’t book it once more time.
- Helen11 (8/5): Very good - The loft was located in a central area, with everything in walkable distance. The terrace had amazing view
- Hodge (9/5): Lovely loft - The loft is in a perfect location right in the heart of the old town, just a short walk from restaurants, bars, and shops. Ignore the previous reviews regarding wifi. there is full WiFi. Also it is more modern than the pictures on here, the furniture has been updated. Transfer from the airport was easy we caught the bus number 10 from the airport and then got off number 17 stop and then it is literally a two minute walk. Going back to the airport is just the same but vice versa on the other side of the road. Buses are every 10 minutes in both directions. There was a lack of information. They could do with and information pack supplying information on buses, trains and local attractions. It was also hard to find, it was not obvious. If you are looking at it from the river then it is the grey bluey coloured building with a roof terrace. To access you need to walk the high street and get the keys from the furniture shop. Cant remember the name but its a black sign with white writing. Its more or less opposite the stein hotel from the river side.
- Fr (8/5): great location, great place, very low ceiling above bed - great location, great apartment the bed was a bit awkward to get in and out of, hard on the knees with the very low ceiling, but it was comfy once in
- Aimee (7/5): Good -
- Diane (10/5): Exceptional - location was perfect 👍
It was a comfortable size loft for 2 people. staff is easy to reach and are quick to respond.
- Ilona (10/5): Exceptional -
