- Paul (9/5): Great owners, great property, very enjoyable stay. - The property owners met our taxi on the street in front of Smilin Dog. Can’t beat that. They were very lovely and reacted quickly to resolve issues, give advice when asked, and act as tourist information guides. They were great. Our apartment overlooked a remarkable garden with many trees including a grove of full grown bamboo. Our apartment was very private, clean, comfortable and very close to the beach. It had a great outside kitchen, which was a first for us, which had everything we might need to prepare meals and perfect considering the very warm/hot temperatures of Tamarindo. There was also a shared bbq, always perfectly clean, in the back yard garden. To be honest, there was nothing that we didn’t like.

- Mackenzie (10/5): Wonderful people, great location, relaxing vibes. - This was such a great place to stay! Wonderful location while being able to escape the sounds of town. The hosts were such lovely people too and their kindness and genuine interest in our experiences from eating out to surfing was very sweet. Our only comment of the property pertains to room 4- at the time of our stay the mattress itself was a bit too firm for my husband and I to get comfortable on- especially after surfing all day. It was a personal preference but did not detract from our overall experience.

- Joe (10/5): Exceptional - The owner we're awesome, very welcoming. Location is very quite, close to everything. 2 minute walk to the beach, supermarket, atm's, restaurants, ect. You get a full kitchen on a nice little patio in a tropical garden setting. I loved this place and would stay here again There was nothing I was disappointed with. Everything was what I expected.

- Josh (9/5): I would absolutely stay here and recommend to anyone passing through Tamarindo. - This is a great place to stay with exceptional hosts. The units are tucked away in a quiet garden and each one feels very private. We were upgraded to a larger suite on arrival, which was very nice. The proximity to the town, food, and beach can't be understated – you're a stone's throw away from anything you want to do. The cherry on top of our stay were the hosts, who checked in with us regularly and made us feel very welcome. The only complaint I can give is that our bathroom did seem to attract quite a few termites. We informed the hosts and they managed to take care of them, only for them to return a few nights later. Wasn't dangerous by any means (they don't bite) but just a slight nuisance to share the space with little critters.

- Ellen (10/5): The Smilin Dog would be my first choice for my next visit to Costa Rica - Loved the AC in the bedroom portion of the room. I was really looking forward relaxing in a hammock as shown in photos. They were not available, rocking chairs were available instead.

The hosts were extremely welcoming and friendly, even made us cookies one night and left in our fridge. The ground are so quiet. We know where we will stay when we visit again. Everything was great for us!

Overall, I highly recommend this place if you're looking for a place that's - Property was safe and secure with multiple locks, a very large spacious kitchen, and large showers. The garden area had a bbq, washers and dryers and all neighbours were very pleasant. The walk up to a less busy Langosta Beach was 10 or so minutes and so worth it. Owners, Andy & Rowena were so pleasant and helpful during our stay. Nothing the apartment had everything.
- Albert (10/5): Probably the go to accommodation for a Costa Rican atmosphere in Tamarindo! - The stay was incredible. Couldn’t ask for a better location, everything is walking distance. Andy & Rowena are extremely hospitable and the accommodation itself is very cute with the apartment super spacious. Wouldn’t go anywhere else in Tamarindo! (It also feels very safe). Nothing at all.
- Benjamin (8/5): No battling hotel maids and loud neighbors!! - Location perfect. Very secure with two gates into compound. Quiet. Easy walking to everything. Close to bus stop to San Jose and airport. No need for a car. NOT a party hotel. Spacious bathroom and shower, good towels. BEACH CHAIRS!!! Easy to carry ones. Recommend highly for laid back people looking to chill. Not a luxury hotel but we loved the peace and quiet and private garden patio with full sized fridge, stove, microwave and padded rocking chairs. Really can’t think of anything we didn’t like.

- Dean (10/5): Most amazing experience that I will repeat. - Everything!!! it was great! the hosts are amazing people who are very accommodating and great at communicating. the outdoor kitchen was not only totally cool, but a great place to hang. it was cool too because all the neighbors made it feel like home. The location couldn’t be better. it was close to all the action yet removed from it for peace and tranquility. best of both worlds. Plus you could walk across the street to the beach and food was everywhere nearby. And since I was also working on my computer while there, one feature I did not expect was the icing on the cake. Costa Rica is not known for fast internet and most places I stay it is very slow compared to the US and very unstable sometimes non-existent. The internet here was super fast. I mean faster than most people in the US. There is nothing you could not do with ease and quality whether it was work or streaming. I run streaming radio, podcasting, and TV stations that require beyond fast Internet and the Wi-Fi was way beyond fast and faster than anywhere I know in Costa Rica. I highly recommend that if you are to stay anywhere in a Tamarindo it is Casa Smilin’ Dog. Nothing!
- Catherine (10/5): Great little property in Tamarindo, central to everything - Great property in Tamarindo, loved having the outdoor kitchen, huge fridge to store drinks and food, coffee machine, kettle, microwave, cooker. washer & tumble dryer, which was fab after travelling around Costa Rica. Property was a little bit dated but wouldn’t stop me staying there again, adjacent to the food truck park which we used a couple of evenings ( great selection of food) Hosts Andy & Rowena are so helpful and welcoming, even let us borrow beach chairs to use on beach which is only a few minutes away.
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional - My girlfriend and I enjoyed our stay at Casa Smilin Dog a lot! Our hosts (Andy, Ro and Princess Puss Puss) were very friendly, helpful and attentive! The location is amazing - around 5 mins. from the beach. The accomodation was clean, spacious, with an awesome outdoor kitchen, AC and a wonderful view of the garden. All in all 10 out of 10 in our book! We would definately stay there again.
- Shelley (9/5): Superb - Really lovely apartment, very clean, spacious and well equipped. Great location right behind the beach and 2 mins from town centre. Cool and shaded and very quiet. Lovely outdoor kitchen fully equipped which we used quite a few times to cook. Big comfy bed and lots of towels. Andy was very helpful and always lovely and polite. Nothing really, a swimming pool is always nice but you don't need it with the beach 2 mins away.
