Guest Reviews
- Sharon (10/5): A memorable and unique experience - Really beautifully decorated and well equipped
- Carmen (3/5): - Experience Misunderstandings in communication..
- Jo (10/5): Unique home in a unique landscape - Ali’s was such a unique amazing home, something we had never experienced before, in this amazing landscape, again so unique to Coober Pedy, which has been likened to Mars apparently! There is a bench seat outside to sit on and take in the landscape an watch the beautiful sunsets. So yes we would highly recommend a stay at Ali’s if you like something completely cool! Nothing
- Tracey (8/5): We had a great stay in Ali’s number 4 home. - Comfortable unique underground accommodation with a great view and fire pit. It was lacking in a few basic condiments like tea
- Jennifer (9/5): - The property was authentic as advertised
Communication with the owner was good
Location was a bit out of town, but had good views, was perfect for our group
- Daniil (8/5): - Понравилось не обычное жилье пещера Запах старины, все очень старое
Душ ужасный
- Amanda (10/5): - Great host, with suggestions of things to do in Coober Pedy. House was a great experience. So cool on a hot day. Only one coffee stick and no teas complimentary although looked like there usually is, just not restocked for our stay.
- Deepu (10/5): -
- Mr. Bhavin Parmar (10/5): - Room had character. Host Ali was attentive and friendly. Getting to property was easy and detailed information was provided over an email before the arrival and over a call on arrival. Rooms were clean and specious.
- Stephanie and Timothy (10/5): -
- Kylie (8/5): Great location and modern facilities. Had to use fan to circulate air in bedroom - slept well. - Unique stay in a dug out with a great dessert view. Host was very accommodating when there were road closures coming in. The bonus is we got to see Quorn prior to making our way to Coober Pedy. It's such a unique place, and I look forward to returning to spend more time here to explore the area more.
- Doug (10/5): -
- Markéta (9/5): -
- Claire (10/5): - EVERYTHING!! Communication and self check in instructions are perfect. The owner cannot be more helpful, follow her tips you will see some cool quirky places.
The dug out is soo cool, has a real homely feel and they have everything you need for a comfy stay.
Location is perfect.
Can't recommend enough. Nothing.
- Samar (1/5): Very bad - couldn’t stay there and had to book an alternative accommodation for the night - Unfortunately there was nothing to like The property was not clean and the furniture was very dated. Unfortunately, the condition was so poor that we felt uncomfortable staying and had to book alternative accommodation for the night.
There were cockroaches present and a very strong unpleasant smell throughout the house.
I messaged the owner out of courtesy to let her know that we had left. She asked why we left immediately, and I provided honest feedback. However, her responses were not very receptive.

- Estia (8/5): - Had everything we needed. The underground thing felt a bit weird
- Tiffany (3/5): Horrible - Good location. good setting. Left something there and they want to charge 50 bucks to take it to the post office. single beds are like being in a coffin, very uncomfortable. Not enough lighting. Couldn't use washing machine. Shower was poor. Garbage laying around outside and animal faeces
- Michael (10/5): -
- Chris (7/5): -
- Cheryl (9/5): Great stay. Very different sleeping underground. I slept 9.5 hours each night! - The property is great and being underground it was a lot cooler than outside. There was a little mould in the shower/bath that wouldn’t take too long to clean.
- Peter (8/5): -
- Scott (10/5): Highly recommended -
- Christopher (8/5): Gimmicky , quiet, beds are very comfortable. - It was a gimmicky type stay underground, would I like to live like that full time? Hell no. It was a one off to the experience it. Recliners handles Broken, items in kitchen cupboards not checked to be clean or washed up properly. No toilet roll holder, oven didn’t work. No instructions for oven or tv operation.
- LISA (7/5): Great experience in an underground house. - Clean, well equipped, as shown on photos.
- Julie (10/5): Great place to stop and have a look around town. Great clean accommodation. Excellent experience staying in underground - Great experience staying underground house. Plenty of space for 2 families
Amazing feel of earth walls, absolutely breathtaking
The walk up the hill over the top of the house is pretty cool.

Loved it Nothing

- Mark Lenard (10/5): - One of the best places I have ever stayed. A very unique experience and I couldnt recommend this place higher.
- Mitch (9/5): Had a great time staying 3 nights. Loved the elevated views and unique vibe of the underground home. - An amazing and unique experience in an underground home. Loved the serenity: peace, quiet, views, comfortable bed, perfect temperature inside, outside fires at night. Facilities were as good as expected but used little as made most of nearby restaurants/bars/cafes. Nothing to say. Any quirks - such as which light switch turns on what light?? - was part of the fun.
- Dawn (10/5): - Lovely property, very comfortable.
- Urban (8/5): - Geräumig und leise. Gasherd Zündung und separates Feuerzeug funktionieren nicht. Es ist nicht möglich den Ofen zu nutzen- gefährlich.
- Brenton (10/5): Would stay again - Interesting experience. Urey unique.
- Ross (10/5): -
- Christine (6/5): Coober Pedy is a fascinating place and the accommodation was pleasant. - The home is what we would assume a typical dugout, and quite comfortable. We had never stayed in a dugout before, and found it to be a little bit enclosed. The spaces would be greatly improved by increased ventilation or air movement via ceiling fans or similar - we used the single pedestal fan and the air conditioner for air circulation, even though it was freezing outside.
- Stephanie (10/5): Amazing accomodation, will visit again! - Beautiful dugout style accomodation!
- Crescitelli (9/5): Superb - The dug out experience and the beds were cool and comfy. I like the kitchen because it was very nice 💯. The bathroom got a bit steamy, otherwise excellent experience 🙂
- Willingham (9/5): Superb -
- Jane (10/5): Excellent experience staying at Ali’s - This was a unique place to stay and I was impressed by the cleanliness and how comfortable it was. It has a great view of both sunset and sunrise and checking in and out was a breeze. Nothing it was all good. Only thing for the owner - I had to hold the lever on the toaster down, unless it was an idiot-proof toaster, it seemed to be faulty.
Thank you
- Yasmin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Holly (10/5): An amazing place to stay in Coober Pedy. We hope to come back soon. - Everything we needed was there- all appliances and ammenities. It was warm and inviting. Ali was very helpful and easy to communicate with. Nothing

- Greg (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kelly (10/5): Exceptional - We absolutely loved Ali’s underground home. Only wish we could have stayed a lot longer than one night. The home was unique and exceeded our expectations. It was just like staying in what I would expect the Flintstones home to be. Wonderfully furnished. Clean. Amazing wifi! Such a must when travelling. Comfortable beds (best sleep we had had for a week whilst on the road). Everything you might need is there, and if it’s not, Ali is only a phone call away and will do her upmost to make sure you’re comfortable. Would we stay there again?? Absolutely, sign us up!

Thankyou!
- Peter (9/5): It was the best of the three nights we had between coastal NSW and Uluru. I would stay again. - It was fascinating to stay underground. The clever way it was constructed and the colours of the clay walls and roof. The weather wasn't hot but warm on the night we stayed as a southerly change came through the weather leading up had been very hot. It was fairly windy outside and inside was lovely and cool and very isolated and insulated from outside extremes. I love natural ventilation. I appreciated the advice from the host about what to see in the time we had available and where to eat. The Serbian Church and Underground Hotel were amazing thanks Ali. Very quiet apart from a a small rattling sound from a cowl on an air vent, I think. I doubt it makes noise when not windy.
- Luca (8/5): Very good -
- Georgia (10/5): Exceptional - We had such an amazing experience and this place is stunning!
This place was immaculate and so easy to find.
- Merrilyn (10/5): Genuine underground home - with fantastic views! - It was very comfortable, clean, with everything you could need. It was SO COOL living in a dugout home and we loved it! But the best thing was that we got to live underground, whilst also up a hill with a fantastic view out the front door! I relished sitting out there and watching the sunset (and sunrise) over the town and landscape, before going in and being a cave dweller again. Nothing
- Walker (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lauren (8/5): Nice and clean. Super interesting home made from rock. - Very Good location with a nice view of the town. Cool inside away from the South Australian heat.
- Wilks (10/5): Exceptional - Very unique cave house
- Matheus (9/5): Superb -
- Candice (10/5): Exceptional - Fantastic! It’s really a wonder experience to live in cave .
The property has everything you need.
- Scott (10/5): Such a welcomed stop along our journey. Must stay. - Excellent location, amazing views and fantastic host. Communication was first class, great information inside property and the property was comfortable and spotless.
- Peter (10/5): Great experience - Nothing
- Olivia (10/5): Exceptional - A beautiful home just out of the city centre with amazing views.
Ali was fantastic to deal with.
- Wells (10/5): Best way to experience Cooper Pedy life in luxury. - It felt like home. Nice and cool. Spacious. Peaceful Not a negative but the light switches were difficult to workout.
- Julia (9/5): Very helpful host who gave lots of tips and helped us with our last minute stay. - Big space and dog friendly. Cool on the hot day we were there and nice undercover outdoor space.
- Cordi (10/5): Ali's underground home
Coober Pedy - Ali's underground home was amazing. Cool, cosy, and enjoyable. We enjoyed our little hike up and over the underground home, too. Great veiw of Coober pedy at the top⛰️
Thank you, Ali 😊
- Mark (9/5): Great dugout in Coober Pedy - Excellent underground accommodation, and a great way to experience a night in Coober Pedy. Great views, lots of room and all the facilities needed.
- Paraic (10/5): Even better than it looks in the pictures! - Wow!! It was even better than it looked in the pictures. Temperature was perfect, beds were very comfortable. Everything was spotlessly clean and well laid out. The fridge was big enough to hold the very large pizza box. Fantastic views from the hill. Quiet location within easy reach of the town. Nothing
- Andrea (10/5): Great and clean - Great stay, clean and comfortable for the whole family. Ali was very friendly and very helpful.
