Only 10 minutes walk to town, but up a very steep hill, and a few flights of stairs to get to the room, so packing light would be helpful! The house was spotless and very well maintained, which we loved. They also assisted us with transportation to Saranda, making our trip smooth and stress-free. We highly recommend staying here! “The property is located on an elevated area, which offers nice views, but reaching it can be a bit challenging for those who are not used to physical activity or walking uphill.”
• Dominik (10/5): - Wir hatten einen wundervollen Aufenthalt im KALE Guesthouse! Ein besonderes Highlight war der Balkon und der Blick über die Altstadt und die Burg. Alle Zimmer waren mit Klimaanlage ausgestattet, es fehlte insgesamt an nichts. Die Gastgeber bieten sogar ein Frühstücksmenü an, falls man dieses buchen möchte. Die Lage war super, wenige Gehminuten in die Altstadt und zur Burg von Gjirokastra. Wenn man dort ist, sollte man auf jeden Fall bei The Barrels essen gehen, die Gastgeber haben uns ohne mit der Wimper zu zucken ein Taxi hin und auch wieder zurück organisiert - top! Die steile Anfahrt an das Haus - allerdings wurden wir super eingewiesen!

• Vanessa (10/5): - Adela was very welcoming and helpful. We wanted to use the washing machine as we'd been travelling for a few days, we were told to leave our laundry with her. Later on it was handed to us washed, dried and folded!! Her breakfast was plentyful and delicious with homemade jams and her Mum's homemade bread. I would highly recommend Kale guesthouse! If you go to Gjtrokaster, this is the place to stay.

• Maria Lorena (9/5): …Il miglior pernotto e la miglior colazione! - La struttura è in una posizione comoda rispetto al centro storico (bazaar) e il castello. La possibilità di parcheggiare la macchina all’interno della proprietà o comunque lì a ridosso è di sicuro un plus, considerando che il parcheggio all’ingresso del paese è a pagamento. La cittadina è tutta un sali e scendi, l’alloggio è posizionato in cima ad una salita piuttosto ripida, elemento da tenere in considerazione per chi non è abituato, o ha problemi di deambulazione. Per il resto, tutto bellissimo. La vista dalla casa, il tavolinetto nel patio, la pulizia e i dettagli della camera. Tutto davvero perfetto. La stanza in cui siamo capitati noi, aveva una finestra minuscola e proprio davanti all’ingresso al b&b, quindi non era pensabile tenerla aperta o si sarebbe visto dentro la stanza. Questo ci ha costretto a dormire con l’aria condizionata accesa., cosa di cui io personalmente non sono una gran fan, ma è un mio problema/ preferenza, di sicuro non ha niente a che vedere con il servizio offerto.

The parking was quite challenging to manoeuvre due to being on a steep incline. The climb was also a challenge when we came back at the end of the day - the town is very steep and the apartment is very high above the main bazaar area.

We really liked our balcony where you have a great view to the castle and being a bit remote but still close to everything the city has to offer. Also the host was amazing, got a lot of help with the local transport (as it is not that easy to understand in Albania). Thanks again for everything! All good! :)

The owner is really kind and helpful, assisted us with finding the common attractions and suggesting beautiful spots of the town. Gjirokastra has some beautiful scenery so we were able to catch them. The room was clean and fits the price, perfect for two persons.

Good lighting and wifi, the host was a gem! We stayed in the smaller room, good for a couple nights but would need more space for a longer stay. It was on a steep hill but WE DID IT!

It was cosy with an attic feeling and extremely clean all round. The host, the daughter of the house, was so kind, resourceful, helpful, a source of great knowledge and speak very good English. We listened to her recommendations about Gjirokaster and the rest of Albania and we are certainly not disappointed. The location was very quiet but very handy to access central old Gjirokaster just a few minutes walk away . Thank you so much for the hospitality. Nothing. It was perfect.

Very clean and tidy with lots of space for storage, a TV and a mini fridge to keep drinks cool. The property is set up on the hill in the old town in a really pretty location and beautiful views from the balcony. Space for parking a car if needed. Also an amazing price given how lovely the property was. Loved everything! We weren't sure if there was an added cost for breakfast as this was a little unclear so we opted out of this.

• Victoria (10/5): Fabulous location and amazing hosts - This is a gorgeous place and a lovely property. Adelle (not sure about the spelling, so apologies in advance) was fabulous and super responsive. She even guided us "live" through town over the phone to reach the property. Lovely family and amazing kindness. They helped with everything we needed. The area is quiet and peaceful. You are in the right place to explore also the aqueduct or to go to the higher part of the city (you are already pretty high). And the view over the castle is fabulous. There are parking spots in the house itself and outside (we parked outside, as we were not going to move the car for a couple of days). It's truly on top, so get ready for some ramps! We enjoyed our weekend in Gijokaster A LOT! We took the room with no views (in case you are going for it, there are 2 rooms with balconies and views over the castle and one with no views, the lower price one) and it's not very big. If you're there for a short time and don't spend much time in the room, it's lovely, but if you're the kind of people who like to spend time in the room, go for the other ones, as they are more spacious, have a big balcony and you'll feel more comfy.
• Rachel (10/5): Gorgeous views of Gjirokaster traditional guesthouse - We really enjoyed staying in a traditional guesthouse whilst in gjirokaster for 2 nights. The room was comfortable and aircon worked well. The view from the balcony (family room) is absolutely gorgeous! It was great to have space to sit outside and view the hills, castle and town, as well as watch the sunset. We noted our family room did not have a washing machine, iron or barbeque as listed for the room, but this may have been available in another part of the guesthouse on request. The guesthouse is up a steep hill and the owner and her family kindly helped us get our car up and parked on the driveway which we appreciated. It's only a short walk to the bazaar, castle and restaurants and we loved exploring the city. We would recommend staying here and you will not be disappointed with the view or location :) Breakfast wasn't included as an option when we booked but the reviews of this were great so we would have liked to have had this on the balcony
• Joanne (10/5): amazing balcony view! - the room had the most amazing balcony view of the old town and castle, and was a short walk from the castle. the owner was really helpful & has great knowledge of the local buses, she gave us really useful instructions on how to arrive using public transport from the bus station (the bus stops just a couple of minute's walk away). there's several bars/restaurants a few minute's walk away (we recommend taverna kardashi!) as well 2 small shops. comfortable bed, 2 aircon units in the apartment, and a fridge in the room. very highly reccomended!! we really loved gjirokaster as well, our favourite place of those we visited in albania on this trip! everything was perfect!
• Julia (10/5): Awesome stay - The rooms are very comfortable, modern and Clean, although our room was a bit claustrophobic because of the slanted ceiling. Also we did not have a balcony, but it was compensated to us by a tiny terrace we could use along the stairway. This started to be problematic when we needed to dry our swimsuits and the host did not like the aesthetic of that since other guests are also passing through this area. This could be solved in a better manner. Otherwise, The host is overall nice and speaks English so well. She lives downstairs with her parents and a tiny baby, so anytime you need something, she is available. The location is good. Not to far from anything you would want to explore in Gjirokaster. Closest restaurants and shops are about 100m away from the facility. I would enjoy if the property showed exactly which room you were getting when booking since there are 3 and although similar, I would be happy if I would see the room’s layout and bathroom in advance. The parking situation is Gjirokaster is hell. The host prepared a parking spot for us right in front of the property, but everything in this city is in a steep hill, so our parking was as well and we feared every day for our car to simply drive away.

Absolutely recommended - The guesthouse is located in a quiet spot above Gjirokastres bazar (about 10 minutes walking) with a beautiful view upon the castle. The host is really kind and helpful, sent us detailed instructions about how to reach the place, and helped navigate with directions. The house is located on a quite steep and narrow road, and there are a couple of parking spots outside the house. The host speaks great English and communication was always fast and smooth. The room is spacious with tasteful details, cozy and comfortable, facilities and equipment seem new and everything is in perfect condition. The bed is so big and comfy, we really appreciated it! The breakfast (not included, but absolutely worth it!) is soooo delicious! Made with fresh and homemade ingredients, kept us going for the entire day! I would absolutely stay here again, I wish it was longer than 2 nights!

View from the balcony is great and the hosts are lovely - they helped us with advice on how to get the bus to Gjirokaster and were very welcoming when we arrived. A short (but steep!) walk from the bazaar and castle. Shower is just mounted to the toilet wall so the floor is always wet. Some shade on the balcony (an umbrella or shade cloth) would be great so that it can be used on hot days.

Not too far from the old bazaar, but steep. Good workout. You might be able to park ONE car in front of the property, if it's small - Veeeery steep hill. Otherwise, down the road, not a problem.

The house was near the old pazar, in a quite and safe place. The room was absolutly fantastic, everything was new, very clean and comfortable. • Veronika (9/5): Superb - This was an amazing stay. The guesthouse is on the other side of the castle. So you notice nothing of the hustle in town or in front of the castle. You have an amazing view of the old town and its quiet at night and throughout the day. This were the best beds we had in our two weeks in albania, also the breakfast was the best one so far. Everything homemade and a lot of variety. There is an awesome place to have dinner two minutes by walk and one of the hikingtrails starts right in front of the door. Also there is good a/c and wifi The room has no refridgerator but im pretty sure you could store things within the familys fridge. The bathroom is quite small (could be a problem if you're big). Last but not least - dont follow the route on google maps, only if your car can take stairs as well... but the family will help you with the correct route

• Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - Really don’t know where to start and end my review. This place is all you need if you travel. Great rooms, fantastic view, lovely and helpful family who own this small piece of happiness and an awesome breakfast which was each day a little bit different. We planned to stay there for two days but we extend it to three. Everything is easy reachable by a little walk and Adela has a lot of great recommendations if you need. Just one thing we were missing - a refrigerator. Not a must have but a nice to have ;-) My recommendation if you stay here or anywhere else in Gjirokastër, take a break for dinner at Taverna Tradicionale KARDHASHI - awesome food, lovely family as well and great experience to inhale and calm down. Try the „Salep“ - best hot (in my opinion a dessert) drink I’ve ever had.

• Sanick (10/5): Relax in nature and be in the old city at the same time!! - It's a fantastic little room, beautifully decorated!! Brand-new and they payed a lot of attention to the details! It was super clean, and even though it's a very small room and bathroom all the space is perfectly used. Breakfast was delicious! Mostly homemade!! Thank you Adela for a fantastic stay! Only too short😊 The location is fantastic! Very quiet, beautiful view, close to the castle. In the middle of nature and still in the city No view from the room But one step outside and it's beautiful in every direction

• Marco (10/5): great stay for a even better price - very clean and beautiful apartment! the staff was great and the breakfast was really tasty and home made. also the view is beautiful! and you can walk to the old town in about 8 minutes. the only thing I can think of is that it can be quite hard to find but I blame google for this.

We travelled as a pair of friends and had plenty of room and the lookout from the deck is just stunning. No fridge in room, but I'm sure host would look after something for you.
