Guest Reviews
- Suciu (6/5): - Was no swimming pool
- Florin Ghi (10/5): - Very friendly staff and very good conditions.
Very well maintained saunas and top notch cleanliness everywhere.
Congratulations!
It was a wonderful ski holiday.

Ligging was prima. Mooie tuin en ruim balkon Alles was goed
Unterkunft niemanden Weider Empfehlen.
Parkplatz sehr Mühsam.
Teilweise keinen Platz beim Frühstück.
- claudi19 (8/5): Aanrader!

- Laura (10/5): One of the nicest places we’ve stayed in all our years of visiting Mayrhofen. - The apartment was spacious and very comfortable. This accommodation offered additional facilities like the outdoor nature pool which was a bonus. The views from the balcony were absolutely stunning. Frau Moigg was very welcoming and helpful when our arrival time changed at the last minute. Breakfast was lovely and everything was spotless. The staff were all very friendly, polite and helpful. The location was perfect and only a short stroll into the town centre. Sitting out on the balcony in the evening was so peaceful away from the noise in the centre of Mayrhofen. Wonderful! Nothing at all. It was exactly what we hoped for.
- I9683HHmariannee (10/5): - This family run hotel is about 5 minutes walk from the Mayrhofen village center. You can reach the hotel by car avoiding the two - three busiest traffic junctions ! coming in and going out . From and to Mayrhofen railwaystation rewievsyou can walk BUT if you have alot luggage I recommend to take a Taxi, they are often available right away.
The hotel is traditional : some rewievs say it is a bit outdated but we find it cosy and everything is allways very clean. Breakfast is basic but always tasty, breakfast room a traditional Austrian kaminstube. in front of the house nice garden with a small pond.
And wonderfull Penken and ahorn mountains all around you.
We have stayed here several times; summer and winter,as a couple and with grandchild.Allways felt us very welcome and enjoyed our stay. We can sincerely recommed Almhof. The real gem here is the owners and their staff. Friendliness can not be bought , it comes from the heart.
- Francisca (8/5): Very good - Charming accommodation, we booked the apartment for 3 persons which was spacious enough and the kitchenette was quite well equipped. The breakfast was basic but of great quality, lovely staff and the modern wellness area was a great addition to our vacation. We liked the location of the hotel as it is in a quiet area but walking distance from the town center and the ski lifts are easily reached by the skibus that stops in front of the hotel. Overall great value for money and would highly recommend! The bathroom in our room was quite outdated but very clean so no big issue in our opinion.
- Hanwcath (10/5): Would stay here again, lovely hosts and clean hotel. - The hotel location is excellent, lovely walk down the valley and so quiet at night time. Thought the walk would be longer than it was but was home in no time after drinks. Breakfast was typical for the hotels in this area. The hotel owner was brilliant - very helpful and stayed up until 1 am waiting for our arrival on the first day. Couldn't ask for more from her. Gave us all the information regarding ski bus times which was very useful for us. The rooms are clean and spacious. Had the room cleaned every day except Sunday. Fresh towels and change of bedding. Good quality mattress. Gorgeous views of the mountains and in particular the Ahorn run. Would highly recommend and stay here again.
- Stephanie (8/5): Very good -
- Guy (9/5): Superb -
- Kiran (9/5): Superb -
- YoavPrat (6/5): Nothing to write home about - Stayed there in a ski vacation:
1. Rooms are clean but tiny. Old decor.
2. Breakfast is simple and basic.
3. Location is so so, skibus service is ok (just outside the hotel) but prepare for walking (restaurants&shops and other skibus routes), very quite
4. Staff - old school, family style
5. Ski room - too small.
- 149davids (8/5): A quiet nice B&B pension far from the maddening crowd.. - The Hotel Garni Almhof is a very nice family-run b&b pension, located on the outskirts of the town, about a km from the town's center. On the plus side, it's a three-story building with its own green grounds, just 30 meters from the St. Joseph shuttle bus line D, and has a very nice spa and wellness area with a dry and wet sauna, and a relaxing room plus showers. The rooms are very comfortable and squeaky clean. Breakfasts are simple but generous, and the dining room is very pleasant. On the downside, it is located at a walking distance of at least 15-20 minutes from the town's center, and as the last shuttle bus doesn't operate after 17:15 could be an unpleasant walk during inclement winter weather. There is no elevator, and again, not too suitable for elderly people. But the thing really missing is a hot tub or jacuzzi, which after a tiring skiing day is most sought after by skiers. All in all, with its modest rates and location more suitable for younger people. Sleep quality is good, which is also important. As said earlier, had there been a jacuzzi it could be the difference between good and very very good.
- DavidAnd1980 (8/5): Quiet and clean - Last minute ski holiday over Christmas. So we went with what's available via crystal ski.
The place is sparkling clean and warm. We were left to our own devices and breakfast was fresh and tasty. Great coffee and beautiful views.
Dont know if it's an Austrian thing but the bath was so deep, loved it.
A little dated in decor but we were always comfortable and homely.
The quiet of the location was worth the very short walk to the ski bus. It's all very close.
Would stay again.
Downside:
You eat dinner outside the hotel at Neuhaus hotel up the road. Although this is a more expensive hotel we didn't like it there. The waiter was an eye roller... the portions were incredibly small and you are put in the side room. Very much felt like the poor relations. Which these kind of holidays are not cheap.
- KES3003 (8/5): Quiet and comfortable - eventually! - We didn't book this hotel but got transferred here by Thomson because the hotel we had booked was full.
We had booked a double (Austrian twin) but we were given a twin room with beds at opposite sides of the room. Thomson mistake not the hotel's. We asked the hostess if we could change but she said sorry the hotel was full. However, 10 minutes later she rang to say that a double would be available a couple of days later if we would like it.
I am glad we said yes because the beds in room 22 were the most uncomfortable I have slept - or rather not slept on. The beds creaked with every movement. The room itself was fine with a lovely view from the balcony.
We moved to room 23 which was much better - very comfortable beds.
This hotel is very much a B and B. Breakfast was the usual buffet with a selection of cheeses, meats, cereals, fruit and cakes - no hot food but that didn't bother us as there was enough choice.
We found the hostess friendly and helpful.
The hotel is a good location next to a meadow. It is about 10 minutes walk to the centre of the town where there are plenty of restaurants.
One thing that surprised us was how quiet the town is at night after about 9:30. We arrived on a Saturday evening and there was hardly anybody around. We did eventually find a couple of bars/restaurants that still had people in after 9:30 (and didn't have accordion players in). One we particularly liked was Edelweis.
Mayrhofen is a great base for exploring this area of the Alps. Public transport is frequent and easy to use. There are loads of walks that start in the town, though it is not always easy to find the start of them. There are also lots of walks starting at the tops of the cable cars.
Overall we had a good time. We may well go back again and if we did we would probably stayin this hotel.
- SeeWhatDSees (6/5): Cheap but missing the cheerful! - This was a cheap and cheerful trip for a week to lovely Mayrhofen. Unfortunately the cheerful bit was lacking in the hostess! The B&B is located close to town, 5 minute walk. It is a charming looking building and very well maintained. There is a lovely garden to the front with a lovely natural plunge pool. There is no bar and a small sitting area at the end of the dining room.As with this type of property there is no lift. The rooms are a good size and the bathroom is small but spotless. The mattress weren't great at all, blankets were placed under one to prop it up. Breakfast was fine. Elizabeth was very efficient but not the most friendly. The beds and friendliness are important to me that is why I have given a low rating. Mayrhofen is great, do go but maybe stay somewhere else.
- HeidiKoloska (8/5): Quaint & comfortable - Myself & my boyfriend have just got back from staying here for a week. We booked this hotel via an event called Snowbombing as the complete price was suitable for us. It is of typical Austrian style, but always very clean & comfortable.
The rooms are well equipped with TV, safe, hair dryer, and plenty of storage space. Austrain twin beds (double bed frame with 2 single mattresses & duvets). For those who need it, there is also a storage area on the ground floor for ski's & boots etc with separate entrance so you don't have to bring it all through reception.
Breakfast is served each morning from 7.30 and consisted of a selection of breads, honey, jams, cereals, yoghurts, meats & cheeses. You could also request to have eggs cooked if you wished. Plenty of choice to keep you going & the staff were always very friendly & welcoming.
We never had time to use the sauna whilst we were there but there are plenty of areas to relax in both inside & out. There is no bar but lots of choice in the town itself.
The hotel is located just outside the town but close enough to be able to walk to & from in 10-15 mins. There is a ski bus stop along the road outside the hotel which we didn't use as we were happy to walk to the Ski lift station. I'd allow about 20mins walk with carrying ski equipment!
Overall I'd be happy to stay here again.
- sarahhV1093VO (8/5): Comfortable stay - Nice stay. Well maintained building and overall it was spotless. Located on the edge of mayerhofen it is lovely and quiet with only a minutes walk to the nearest bars. Breakfast is simple but nice. I would definitely stay again as very reasonably priced.
- jenmeli (8/5): Great two week stay at the Amlhof - I stayed at the Almhof for two weeks in January. I thoroughly enjoyed my stay! Elisabeth and her staff were very friendly and helpful. Breakfast was typical European style, but with an excellent selection of breads, cheese, meats, cereals and fruit/yogurt, etc. The bedroom was spacious and had a huge balcony (corner room). The shower stall was a little small, but was not an issue for me, might be a bit annoying for a larger person.
The hotel is situated just down the street from the town centre, which was nice as it offered beautiful views of the mountains and town. There is a skibus stop just outside the hotel (line D) and line A and line C are a very short walk away. It's less than 10 minutes walk (with ski boots on!) to the train station where all the buses stop for other destinations outside of Mayrhofen. I'm sure you can also take the skibus to the train station, but I didn't bother as I don't mind walking.
There is a small gym in the basement and sauna too. I did not use the sauna as it's only open from 4pm-7pm and I found myself out most days at that time, but it did check it out and it looked nice.
Overall the Almhof is an excellent choice for a stay in Mayrhofen. The location is great, as it's just on the edge of town, so very quiet and picturesque, yet close enough to be in town within 5 minutes. I was a solo traveler and felt very safe and welcomed at the Almhof. Highly recommended.
- robinb331 (8/5): Good traditional B&B in Mayrhofen - Spent a wonderful week here with my wife and three sons. The hotel arranged one double and one triple room with connecting balcony - very convenient. The rooms are good sized typical Austrian Garni rooms with extra sofa bed and side table and chairs. TV in rooms but only BBC World Service in English. Free WiFi but rather slow. Fantastic sauna area in the basement including proper Finnish sauna, steam bath, infrared bath and solarium as well as an exercise area - frankly over the top for this standard of hotel, but I have seen similar.
The landlady is very friendly and helpful with plenty of advice about Mayrhofen and tales of her family - if you can speak german!
The breakfast is a cold buffet of standard quality - I would have liked to have been offered eggs but otherwise very good.
The hotel is 200 meters north of Mayrhofen - an easy walk to the town and lifts but the ski bus stops at the next door hotel (St Josephs)
- Dun123 (8/5): Nice traditional hotel! - We stayed at the Hotel Garni Almhof having booked through Neilsons, for Mayrhofen Guest houses, allocated on arrival. Before arrival I was a little concerned as to where we would stay however the Almhof completely allayed those fears, in fact was far better than we expected. We arrived at the hotel fairly early (1030) and was greeted by the friendly owner Elisabeth, the check in process was very straight forward with the room being ready which was great allowing for a days skiing. Our room a twin was on the top floor, the room was well equipped with free safe, ensuite shower, flat screen TV (BBC world), table/chairs, balcony looking over fields/forest/mountains etc. There was also free Wi-Fi which had a strong signal. A slight criticism, the beds were fairly basic and the pillows weren't the best. The room was well heated. The hotel itself is an attractive building and very traditional, with the common areas in keeping with the traditional theme and are presented to a high standard. We stayed on a b & b bases, the breakfast being continental with cereals etc served in the nice breakfast room, there is little else to say other than we had no complaints. For skiing, the hotel has a ski storage area in the basement with heated boot rails, also there is a ski bus stop outside which is ideal (line D). The owners provide all the information required in relation to bus times, area details, weather etc which was really nice. A couple of things that we didn't use, I understand there is a sauna/fitness room in the basement, also there is on-site parking. The location of the hotel is just to the north of the town and is a 5 minute walk to the main pedestrian area with shops/ restaurants etc. the hotel partly surrounded by fields. Again the location did not cause any problems with the bonus of the ski bus stop so near which was the most important factor. As stated we stayed at this hotel on a 'allocated on arrival', but having previously stayed in Mayrhofen, we were more than happy to have stayed there and I would have been happy to have booked it direct. The owners and the two staff we saw were always friendly and helpful, the hotel has a nice atmosphere and is presented to a high standard with good amenities, and is in a good location for a stay in Mayrhofen. A couple of things to note, there was no bar on site and they did not serve evening meals. We would recommend staying there.
- Mwilky (8/5): Lovely guesthouse - Have just returned from a weeks stay at the almhof, this was our second trip to mayrhofen and it didn't disappoint. On arrival 1st impressions Were good, very traditional austrian interior and exterior As well as the warm welcome from the hostess. The hidden gem of the hotel was the sauna and steam room In the basement which was not expected! All in all a very good base for our skiing holiday and I would recommend to anyone.
- gwena322 (8/5): Swimming with dragonflies! - We stayed in July 2013 for 2 weeks: travelled with Crystal. The hotel is run by Frau Moigg who is very hospitable and friendly. There are lovely mountain views front and back and it's a nice quiet location, only a short few minutes walk to the centre of Mayrhofen. The hotel is in the traditional Austrian style. The room we had was of a very decent size and had a large corner balcony giving us nearly all-round views. There was plenty of choice at breakfast - cereals, rolls, breads, jams, fruit, yogurt, cheese, cold meat, biscuits and occasional cakes, and Frau Moigg served us with coffee or tea. We could watch the climbers on the via ferrate opposite from the dining room. The hotel does not offer evening meals. There is a comfortable reading room/lounge. A real treat was having a dip in the bathing pond among waterlilies and dragonflies! Very refreshing after a long day's walking. This hotel made a great base for a summer walking holiday. We booked our holiday 1 week before travelling so it was good value but the full price would have been quite a bit more.
- picky077 (8/5): Great Hotel, good location - Stayed here in March 2012 in for one week. We booked the only apartment that they have which was one bedroom, kitchen/dining area and living room. The apartment was spacious, clean and very comfortable and with the best bit being the amazing south facing wrap around balcony with stunning views from every window... great to wake up to each day and perfect for sitting out on at the end of a long day on the slopes... An absolute surprise was the spa facilities hidden in the basement next to the boot room - a great space with Sauna, Steam room, infra red room, sunbed if you wanted it and relaxation area .. oh and a mini gym but we didnt use that!
All in all this is a real little gem of a hotel, warm, friendly, close to the town, bus stop right outside the door.. only very slight downside is that the walls are a little thin so if you have noisy neighbours it can take the edge off of an almost perfect experience and there isnt an oven in the kitchenette so all cooking is done on the hob or microwave.
will be returning to this hotel next year ... unless everyone else finds it and we can get a room!!
- Rach_L_UK (8/5): Great value for money hotel, very pleasantly surprised! - Stayed here when we travelled with Neilson, this was one of their 'guest houses mayrhofen' - I.e. allocate on arrival. We were really lucky with the location, just a short walk from the centre of town. Bus stop just down the road (opposite petrol station) is the first stop for line A and B ,so you always get on the skibus, no matter what time you go. Room was warm and clean, with a lovely balcony facing away from the road. Beds were comfy, room was pretty average size (in my limited experience of Austrian hotels!). Downside was probably the breakfast, bread, slices of cheese, ham and a few cereals, bit of fruit, not much else (eggs, for example), and occasionally had to share a table... but always served with lovely tea and coffee!
Everything we needed, really. In price range, quiet, clean, good location, efficient friendly service. Great stay!
- boydsmad (8/5): Nice hotel for a short break - We stayed here for 7 nights B&B on an Inghams holiday bought through Lastminute.com for £199 - so got great value for money. We felt lucky to have been put into this hotel as we had booked a 'Summer House' so you don't really know where you'll end up - most of the Summer houses that we have been allocated to though have been absolutely fine. Room was very clean, had a balcony with lovely view of the mountains, it had an in-room safe (great!), hairdryer, clean towels daily and clean bed linen. The room decor, particularly the bathroom, was a bit dated but then they all seem to be - it doesn't matter as long as everything is clean and works! There was also free wi-fi (ask for the passcode) and a swimming pond (more like a dip than a swim!) with loungers and tables outside. (On our last day we also noticed there was a gym and sauna but never used them). There was a good choice of breakfast - tea, coffee, juice, 2 cereals, crusty buns, meats, cheeses, jam, honey, fruit, prunes, yoghurt, cakes- not much need for lunch after all of that!!
The hotel is at the bottom end of Mayrhofen, not far past the garage and was an easy 2-3 minute stroll into town - handy for the train station too. It was very quiet at night time too so we slept like a log. The owner was very friendly and spoke good english, although we do try and speak some German.
All in all a nice place to stay for a lovely holiday in beautiful Mayrhofen.
- elCabronUK (8/5): Superb value for money - We stayed hear as part of a cheap package and were presently surprised. The hotel was warm and friendly like so may in Austria, it was really clean and well presented. We stayed on a B&B basis, breakfast was a fairly simple cold buffet but enough for a hard days skiing. The hotel is located at the far end of Mayrhofen, it takes around 10 minutes to walk to the main Penken lift and about 15 to the Ahorn lifts, but there are buses. Its well located for access to the station this is less than 5 minutes away, this is a good thing as the skiing in Zell am Ziller is really good, other than the lack of steep stuff it's probably a better area.
The hotel is basic, but for the money is exceptional value.
