Joy was very welcoming, cottage was beautiful and clean, lovely sitting around the log fire in the evening and pet friendly which was great for us! Nothing.

Personally, I would have like the bed to be firmer, no mattress topper. Need solar lights along the long driveway, as we walked down to York and came back in the evening and it was very dark.

The place is huge and we had a peaceful morning walk around the field in the morning. The cottage is big, the furnishing is old in a good way that reflecting the rich history of York and the place. The wifi is not stable. The host said it is temporarily due to an update in town.

• MaryAnne (10/5): Wonderful peaceful Retreat getaway! - We thoroughly enjoyed our 3 night stay at Hillside Country Retreat. We booked an ensuite room and were impressed with the room size. layout and the facilities. There was a cozy fire with plenty of firewood, outside table and chairs to appreciate the lovely surrounds, fridge and microwave and lovely sitting area. The room was furnished with period pieces and had a lovely ambience. The bed was super comfortable. The retreat is very close to town but we loved that we were just on the outskirts of town as the peaceful surrounds and farmland hills were a bonus. Joy was very easy to correspond and communicate with. We would definitely return again.

• Hancock (9/5): I would definitely recommend Hillside Country Retreat to families visiting York. - We stayed in the 4 x 2 cottage. The cottage was a great size for our group of 7 (4 adults, 3 kids). The beds were comfortable. The fireplace kept the cottage nice and warm. The cottage is located only a minute or two from the town centre. We enjoyed perusing the surrounding gardens and canola fields. Joy was a welcoming host. We would have liked a few more items in the kitchen including some plastic plates, bowls and cups for the kids, a non-stick frypan, cooking oil and baking paper.

Super clean, hard to believe pets are allowed as our room was impeccable. Spa bathtub, good size fridge, walking distance from town centre, super comfy bed and quilts. The only suggestion would be to have a couple of boardgames rather than DVDs.

• Richard (9/5): Excellent Accomodation - Hillside Country Retreat is in a quiet location just outside town. There is a mixture of properties and ours was very clean and contained a full kitchen with cooker as well as a separate bedroom and bathroom. The owner, Joy, and her handyman Michael were very kind and helpful. We only stayed 2 nights but could have stayed more.

• Dudley (8/5): Excellent stay - A restful stay, which was what we wanted after a long flight from the UK. With all the facilities we needed.
• Hazel (8/5): Joy the owner was a joy and the chalet was perfect for us and would stay again if in York. - Very clean, comfy lounge suite, cooling, comfy bed with crisp white sheets, shower was hot and water pressure wonderful. Kitchen facilities was just right for us to cook a meal 🤗 Nothing really. Internet was patchy sometimes but that was not the fault of the accommodation. We were in the country after all and the connection tower was 25 minutes away. And anyway, we more than survived!
• Julius (8/5): Overall we enjoyed our stay. It was one of serenity and peace. - The accommodation met all expectations. Toilets and kitchen areas were clean. There were ample cutlery and facilities to meet our needs. The rooms and living areas were also spacious and designed to a very Victorian taste. There was also a comfy patio area and BBQ facilities to match. Our host, Joy, greeted us upon arrival and was a pleasure to chat with. The accommodation is set in a rather harsh dirt terrain and may not be conducive for much outdoor activities especially over the summer months. However, there are good picnic spots a few minutes drive from the property.

• Thum (8/5): Short sweet and pleasant - The quaint cottages were very well maintained and varied of amenities provided to cater for family of all ages including extra towels and board games. Joy ( the owner) is also very accomodating with pets. She had thoughtfully barried surrouding cottages to prevent little pets from taking off their own adventure as you are busy relaxing enjoying the surroundings. Nothing that i didn't like but can be improved with a swimming pool facility to cater for summer vacation at York.

• Francis (10/5): Exceptional - lovely cute cottage. nicely equipped. very peaceful and quiet. only thing I didn't like was how close the cottage was to another cottage right in front. so no views of the paddocks or grass. also the toilet was very old broken knobs and had a strange odor
• Elayaraja (10/5): York Visit - The togetherness we spent family time was so valuable and Hillside made it beautiful. the host Joy was so friendly, loving and caring as she provided amazing hospitality. it was our 1st getaway with out 6 months old Husky and Hillside accommodated us well with pet friendly accommodation. All in all 5 star. Well we felt spring would be awesome to visit York to enjoy the wildflowers and greenery as summer is dry. Furthermore 2 days layover would be good enough as not much to do around the area.
