Guest Reviews
- Mathieu (10/5): Un petit lodge super séduisant - Tout !
- Katie (10/5): - Beautiful spot, loved the glamping set up with a view of so many trees and monkeys even from the toilet! Breakfast and dinner looking out on the water was a special treat. Great staff, fire pit, overall a great stop. Hiking trails all around too.
- Samuel (9/5): You would want to stay longer! - Out of the way, not many people, just right. Staff were fantastic.
- Michael (9/5): -
TOPPER! -
- Mike (9/5): Naturally a great place - Given very heavy rains across northern Botswana and the Caprivi Strip, we had to change travel plans at the last minute, resulting in us entering Botswana through the Mahango national park and travelling down the Okavango panhandle. Based on a recommendation from where we we scheduled to stay in the Okavango Delta, we book a night at Askiesbos - literally, the name is an apology to the natural bush for disturbing it to build the lodge. The camp is very eco-friendly and has made use of natural materials from the surrounding area, with luxury tented accommodation and outdoor "bathrooms", quirky and fun. Staff were great and the food was excellent. The camp is situated on one of the waterways running off from the main Okavango River, with hippos in some of the pools to add a little noise. We did an evening birdwatching cruise - our guide Lucky was very knowledgeable and found two different owl species to add to numerous bee-eater species, fish eagles and a variety of other colourful local inhabitants. Nothing to do with Askiesbos, but a warning that the roads in the area are dreadful, full of potholes and in many places, the tarmac is now non-existent. Allow extra travel time.
- Graham (9/5): - The host Andrew was excellent, great Irish music, solitude. Nothing
- Aaron (10/5): Our group of 4 had really enjoyed our couple of days at Askiesbos and wished we could stay longer. - Beautiful place, unique accommodation, good food and great service. The Discover the Panhandle was fantastic, and great for the bird/animal lover and our guide was really knowledgeable. Really enjoyed our couple of days and would have been good to stay a little longer. The cultural village walk was just ok. We felt a bit like we were imposing on the first person we spoke too and it was a little uncomfortable for all. The second stop was great. I was good to get an understanding how people make a living and some of the challenges and the second person we spoke too seemed happy to share.
- Zephyr (10/5): - Everything
Amazing place
- Suzanne (10/5): Beautiful location with friendly helpful staff, great food, five stars all around! - The property is beautiful, the staff is friendly, they could not have been more welcoming upon our arrival and were helpful throughout our stay. We enjoyed the boat ride and birding walk with Lucky who is very knowledgeable and great to spend time with. This was my favourite spot on our 6 week southern African adventure, I wish we could have stayed longer.
- Perttu Matias (9/5): -
- Svatava (10/5): Krásný kemp v buši u Okawanga - Krásné dobře vybavené stany s venkovní sprchou, celý kemp leží v krásné buši u Okawanga. Velmi milá a snaživá manažerka.
- Jackie (10/5): I wouldn’t hesitate to stay again. - we loved the staff, the location, the outdoor shower, our tent, the food. wifi was out but that’s africa.
- Paul (10/5): We loved it here! - We loved our stay here. Great, quiet location with hippos and crocs in the water! The room was really comfortable. The staff were great. We were lucky enough to have Lucky as our guide for all our trips and he was excellent. The communal areas were comfortable with soft seating and an honesty bar.
- Frank (10/5): - außergewöhnlich gut in allen Belangen Da gibt es nichts
- Babette (10/5): Prachtige locatie ! - Alles!
- Laura (9/5): Peaceful and Charming - We loved the setting and how well spaced everything is. Food is great and activities were good. The entire setup with buildings, eating area, bar and fire pit were wonderful.
The price is worth it. A little out of the way with a slightly challenging road.
Rien
- Natalie (8/5): -
- henri (9/5): -
- Anneke (10/5): Most relaxing tented camp, friendly staff, great food. Organised excursions were amazing. - Great location, friendly staff. Food was good - nice to sit under the stars and be spoiled with a 3 course dinner. Excursion were amazing - guides very experienced and knowledgable. Better signage to get to Askiesbos from main road.
- Helgard (10/5): Exceptional -
- Boris (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice location in a forest at the river. Very friendly and competent staff. For people interested in birds and wildlife the Panhandle river cruise with a very knowledgeable guide is highly recommended. Everything perfect!
- Sandra (10/5): Askiesbos: where nature meets luxury - We spent two nights at Askiesbos and felt very welcome from the moment we arrived. The staff is warm and friendly and takes care of everything you need. The tent is absolutely amazing - we had the River Tent number one with a bathtub and outdoor area. There were plenty of blankets, so we didn't freeze even in the winter. A small fridge, water kettle, and great toiletries like shampoo and conditioner were provided.
Breakfast and dinner with a view of the river were delicious, and dinner was a great three-course menu. At night, we could hear the hippos grunting.
We did the sunset cruise with Lucky, a fantastic guide who knows everything about the animals and explains it perfectly. The tour cost 400 Pula, and we saw many animals already. We then booked the 6-hour Pan Händle tour with Lucky for the next day, which cost 1000 Pula per person. We even saw hippos and enjoyed a great lunch on the way.
One thing to note is that the photos really don't do the accommodation justice - it's way better in real life! The beauty of the surroundings and the attention to detail in the tent are truly special.
We were sad to leave after two days and would love to come back. The accommodation is absolutely recommended, especially the sunrises and sunsets during meals are a dream. We even had the chance to meet the owner of the farm.
- Cheryl (10/5): The best of the Okavango - The camp was so beautiful. The staff were lovely, food really good There was nothing I didn't like
- Jacomina (8/5): Very good - The location. The staff are very helpful and friendly. I didnt like the outside shower and toilet.
- Sara (10/5): Highlight of our trip - Askiesbos was one of the best places we stayed on our 3-week trip to Botswana. We stayed in one of the river tents with the outdoor bathroom and everything was very clean, with convenient places to put your things, like soap and toiletries. The common areas are comfy, with tea and coffee and filtered/purified water available on-tap. The view over the pan-handle papyrus whilst sat on a sofa was brilliant. We spotted a handful of birds just from there!
Our excursions were booked ahead of time and were not only value for money but were brilliant. If you are interested in birds, ask for Lucky as your guide. We saw over 60-bird species in just two days spent with him (panhandle tour and Tsodilo hills walk).
The accommodation is a little out of the way, but fully accessible from the main road and we were able to organise a pick-up from the bus stop also.
Overall, fantastic stay - highly recommend. My only comment, which is not entirely their fault: another campsite guest had asked staff to introduce him to other guests, and we were 'collected' from our cabin by staff to talk to an older South African man who invited us to his BBQ. As two women, this isn't a nice experience to have to deal with, and having to 'make nice' with a clearly difficult individual wasn't great. We declined his invitations, but it would be good if staff felt confident and comfortable to not comply with his demand. Although we were given a heads up ahead of time which was appreciated.
- Marinda (10/5): Life Top 10 Experience - This was an Amazing experience. The Luxury Tent with a Bathtub was lovely with a beautiful view! The Dinner , with Lambtjops😜 so good. And Bonnie and the girls so very friendly and helpful. And Then Sam and the Panhandle 6h Boat Cruise, was Amazing. Sam find us the Pel's Fishing Owl and Much more. He was the Best!!! Thank you Askiesbos for a Life time experience!!! Like it all
- Briget (9/5): Superb -
- Marinda (10/5): Exceptional -
- I. (10/5): Amazing place! - Amazing place! Warm welcome and friendly staff. The place has a quiet and peacefull vibe. We could hear the hippos during night time which was a great experience. The food was out of this world. They are able to adhere to your dietary wishes (even desserts). Rooms are spacious and very clean.

- Wendy (8/5): Very good - An affordable hidden gem. Really well maintained, nice big tents and a beautiful view.
- Moemedi (10/5): Exceptional - The staff, the management, the food, the rooms and hospitality, Nothing
- Philippe (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice hotel complex located directly on the Okavango Delta. The staff is very friendly and helpful. The jungle tents are beautifully furnished with comfortable beds. The breakfast buffet is very varied and offers something for every taste. We had a very delicious dinner. The boat trip in the Okavango Delta is highly recommended; it was wonderful to enjoy the sunset and relax.
- Mark (9/5): Superb - Well run and maintained, small camp. They organise lots of trips, both onto the delta. and also game drive (back in Namibia). Stayed in lovely tent overlooking small pool from the river
- Thomas (10/5): Best experience ever - Attention to detail, location and incredible experience Nothing to complain about
- Duncan (8/5): Highly recommended beautiful camp - great for exploring the pandhandle - Beautiful location right next to the river. Highly recommended sunset cruise, where we saw elephants, a croc and a huge array of birds. Food was very good (set menu). The tented room was spacious with great river views, the outdoor private shower setup worked well No aircon. The staff pushed the activities more than we would have liked (although the cruise we did was excellent)
Please bear in mind the camp is at the end of an (in places) sandy road. Quite pricey relative to alternatives in the area
- Alexandru (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anton (10/5): Exceptional - Everything
- Pieter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Lena (9/5): Superb -
- Tobias (10/5): Exceptional - We enjoyed staying at Askiesbos Camp very much. The place was an oasis of silence and a place to recharge the batteries. The view to the papyrus swamp is amazing. Bird and monkey life is amazing and Dammann, the owner and manager did a lot to satisfy our wishes! The boat cruise on the Okavango is very pleasant with beautiful scenery and very few if any other boats around and we were lucky enough to spot elephants, sitatungas and some crocs on our trip with Captain Ray. Food was delicious! See you again :-)!
- Colleen (10/5): Paradise! Absolutely our best stay! - What an incredible location! Africa at its best. Dinner and breakfast were excellent and the staff and owner exceeded our expectations in every aspect. Our only regret is that we couldn’t stay longer. We can’t recommend Askiesbos highly enough. Nothing
- Anne (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice place! Wonderful, calm, and quiet setting with a great view. The WiFi was very weak. Very difficult to drive the last kilometer as thick sand. A 4×4 car is strongly recommended.
- Dana (10/5): Exceptional - All was excellent.
- Zvonimir (10/5): Beautiful place to stay in Shakawe - Charming place, next to the Okavango river branch. Private open sky bathroom is special experience.
Helpful staff, great dinner and breakfast at reasonable prices Everything was great
- Charmian (9/5): Superb - A beautiful and comfortable tent. Great staff, The meals were delicious. A very quiet and peaceful place Noyji h
- Christian (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful place directly at the river.
- Heike (9/5): Superb - Great place in the bush facing the swamps.Great bird life.
Very clean and warm cosy beds.
Beautuful set up !!!
We just loved the outside bathroom with a great view of the swamps !
Very yummy food !
The day boat trip was fantastic with Ray ....catching Tiger fish, watching the fish eagles catching fish ,seeing elephants in the high grass !!!!
Nice owners.
Nice Campsites available, too. All great !
Special place !
- Sophia (10/5): Exceptional - An extraordinary place. Surrounded by forest, this place offers everything one desires to feel at peace. Besides the wonderful facilities and the fantastic food, you feel at home from the moment you arrive. Unfortunately, I only spent one night. Will come back for more.
- Tom (9/5): Amazing - Luxury tented camp at an amazing location. The lounge and dining area are tastefully decorated. Great food & nice selection at the bar. We stayed in a river tent, with superb view on the Okavango river from the outdoor bathroom. It can get a bit chilly at night when you stay here in winter, but extra blankets are available in the room and on the terrace.
- Jane (10/5): Superb in every way - An absolute gem of a place. We have stayed in many wonderful places but this tops them all. A beautiful, tranquil setting for comfortable, well thought out accommodation that manages to give privacy without isolation. Friendly, helpful owner and staff, great food and excellent guides for trips. Feel privileged to have been able to stay here Leaving!
- Anja (9/5): Great stopover with unique Mokoro experience - We only stayed at Askiesbos for one night but we had a great experience. We managed to book a Mokoro ride for the afternoon and it was a truely unique experience with two very experienced local guides. We were also quite hungry on our arrival in the afternoon, and the cook prepared us a delicious snack on short notice. The outdoor shower and toilet are quite unique and well maintained. Hot water was available at all times. The tents were comfortable but quite small, so there was only little space for our luggage.
- Schoenfeld (10/5): Exceptional -
- Craig (10/5): Exceptional - The tents were clean and appeared very new as did the bathroom facilities. Quick hot water. #1forest tent was well located and the watering pool near our deck attracted wildlife. The grounds were well maintained and beautiful. The food was very good, especially the apple tart. Boat cruise was a convient walk from our tent. The pool was clean, fun, and refreshing. Two minor issues: 1 the pool deck was shaky and didn't feel safe. 2 the drink 'honor' system was carefully checked each morning and an attempt to charge us for 2 cans of juice that we drank in the car on the way there was not pleasing. We should not have put them in their trash.
- Kutlo (10/5): Definitely coming back - The river view was refreshing
- Segametsi (7/5): Good - Location
- Michal (9/5): Nice accommodation - Everybody helped us. Nice room, very nice personal. The food was good. Maybe can be a little better 😁
- Lucyna (10/5): Exceptional - We liked everything.Host super nice, location fantastic.Great activities in the area.Loved it!
Very clean. Liked everything.
- Rutger (10/5): Exceptional -
- Giulia (10/5): Askiesbos is extremely beautiful, relaxing and clean. - The location was extremely tranquil. The accommodation was very beautiful and clean and felt very private. The staff was great and the food was amazing! We also did a day boat tour through the delta, I can highly recommend doing this. We did this with Sam and Dan they were extremely informative and lovely, we enjoyed every second of it.
- Francis (9/5): Interesting place with a view over Okavango - The tented accommodation was spacious enough and the open air shower and toilet were fenced well enough to be discreet but 'close to nature' too. The dining platform and raised platform for the lounge were great (a crocodile swimming past in the river below was pointed out to me by a staff member as I browsed the coffee table books on the area.) Breakfast and dinner were near perfect, stylishly served and good straightforward food but sensitive enough to ask how you wanted your steak. I drove past the turning first time because 'Askiesbos' sign was in quite small letters, glad I stopped to check the directions.
- Alison (8/5): Very good -
- Lena (10/5): Exceptional -
- Alexander (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect room
Perfect staff attitude
Everything is cosy, tasty, comfortable and friendly!
Great location
Staff helped with all our needs and wishes, top performance! Everything was perfect
- Taylor (10/5): Peaceful escape - Friendly and personal staff who went above and beyond for us.
Tents were clean, free of sand/dirt and bugs.
Located on the lagoon so you get to enjoy the wonderful sounds of nature and all the wildlife!
The team was able to help arrange a variety of activities for our duration there. I highly recommend the sunset boat cruise!
Food was delicious and the chef was able to accommodate for dietary requirements (vegetarian).
- Róbert (10/5): Must visit there for couple of weeks - It was a one of the best part of our holiday to stay in this little paradise! The staff and the owners are extremely friendly, welcoming and helpful! They organize us a wonderful boat trip in to de delta, whit a very unique lunch! Ask for it! You will love it to spend a day among one of the most beautiful nature you can imagine! The food was excellent. And please stay more than one night there. It’s worth it! The fact we need to move one the next place :)))
- Mark (9/5): Having discovered Askiesbos, we will surely come back. - Very well laid out, fitted and furnished. Owner is directly involved and is passionate about the Camp. Staff are discreet and polite and meals are superbly prepared. We used the Camp as a stop-over in transit through Botswana but in hindsight should have made our stay at least another day or two longer and taken the time to relax and fully enjoy the Camp. There is nothing that we did not like about the camp.
- Sophie (10/5): Exceptional place for a quiet stay, staff is really friendly and knowledgeable on the area and it’s fauna - Really quiet and peaceful, beautifully arranged and decorated.
- Julia (10/5): Exceptional - The camp is absolutely stunning and staff was so friendly. Great experience!
- Andrew (9/5): Superb -
- Joachim (10/5): Clear recommendation - Great place, nice owner and staff! We really enjoyed the lounge area and the nice dinners (great cook)
- Lisa (10/5): Exceptional - The owner was very friendly and gave us a lot of good suggestions for the trip
The place was very nice and calm
- Jennifer (10/5): A delightful gem on the Okavsngo - We returned to the Okavango panhandle after 30 years. Askiesbos was far better than we expected
Excellent position, super comfortable River Tent 1 , naturally stylish main area…. And superb hosting by Damon the owner And Tête was always there to assist. So nice to find excellence without any pretentiousness. Just as the African bush should be Dinner presentation but they are working on that
- Lynette (10/5): Exceptional - Everything was excellent, the staff, food and tents cannot be faulted. Would highly recommend. Nothing
- Marinda (9/5): A treasured and intimate bush experience - If you are a bush and bird lover, this place is for you! We loved the forest canopy with enormous trees and chirping bird life all round. The deck overlooks the Okavango delta river tributary which offers a stunning place to read and relax with the African bush sounds. We loved the boutique size of the lodge and the personal attention we received by the staff. The food was delicious and we loved the sundowner boat trip. You hear hippos at night and one splashed in front of our tent one evening
There were elephants spotted on the foot path through the forest but we were too late to see them That we couldn’t spend more time there ;)
- Erik (9/5): Superb - very nice place, nice people! Food can be improved
- Mark (9/5): In the heart of nature. - Beautiful setting on the river, look at nature. Very relaxing. Getting a tummy bug after using the lodge tap water in our kettle, which prevented us from doing the well priced activities that we were looking forward to doing.
No kettle in the tent and at 8 degrees over night a bit chilly to walk to a communal kettle.
- Kuun (8/5): Very good -
- Craig (9/5): A must visit bush camp. - Our tent on the river was outstanding, as was the public area with couches to sit and chill.
Next time we will spend 3 nights and relax.
A definite must visit bush camp. GPS coordinates are incorrect and signposting on main road too small. Owner must rectify.
- Maria (10/5): Exceptional - This is a very special and welcoming place. We stayed for 2 nights and also had the chance to do the boat sunset trip. Lots of information during the trip and it was really a pleasure. We had a fantastic time and it would be a place to repeat without any doubt. The dinner was good and the owners and staff are really friendly. Nothing to mention.
