Guest Reviews
- Lucy (9/5): Very comfortable and spacious accommodation, lovely host. - We loved our stay here. The location is quiet being a distance into town by bicycle. Lovely welcoming host with good local knowledge
- Emma (8/5): Beautiful, quiet location. Bikes were fabulous to get intotown. Abel was very responsive, helpful. Would highly recommen - Quiet, swimming pool, authentic, comfortable, spacious and very helpful friendly host We loved it.
- Michael (9/5): Just what I needed - Abel was a most gracious host and most accommodating. The stay was exactly what I needed. The pool was a huge bonus, as I ended up spending more time in it than in the ocean; both were great. He had a bike for me to use.
- Luiz Paulo (9/5): Ótima, - Do anfitrião Abel, espetacular! Uma excelente pessoa, com valores e princípios. Fiquei pouco tempo.
- Cornelia (10/5): Relaxing Respite by the Sea - I stayed in the La Luna seaview studio in May 2026. There was a stiff onshore breeze during my stay which made it very comfortable. The studio is surrounded by sea grape and palm so you feel like you are in a treehouse The expansive, uninterrupted view of the reef was superb! Mr. Abel Novello is a superhost. His sweet kitties, 2 spunky jack russell mix puppies and a good natured older dog that can only be described as a gentleman made me feel at home. All good with me. 😁
Heel fijne eigenaar.
- Jack (7/5): very friendly owner and a more remote location which I favored - but the barking dogs are a nuisance - Very friendly owner, nice appartment overlooking the ocean and a more remote location. Free bike available was also very great - and I really appreciated the owner taking me to the ferry on the last day for free. The owner has several dogs - as does the neighbour. I love dogs, but... When I arrived there was dogshit in front of my appartment and for the whole duration of my stay the dogs kept on barking - and they were right underneath my appartment. I slept awfully at this location. At the time I did not make a mention to the owner - because I did not want to dogs to be pusished or locked away - but the barking dogs really kept me from sleepy peacefully.
- Shani (10/5): - Our stay in the apartment was amazing! The view was beautiful, the apartment was spacious and cozy, and the kitchen was fully equipped. But above all, the incredible service from Abel truly stood out! He was so kind and took care of everything for us, gave us great recommendations, and made us feel completely at home. Thank you so much for such a wonderful stay!
- jean luc (8/5): - Logement au calme.
Belle piscine.
- Kutz (10/5): Very nice relaxing location - Location, very nice staff who was helpful
During our stay. LeAnna was excellent host and helpful when we had questions. Not your fault...buggy! Did use spray and kept slider closed.
- Nattoulouse (10/5): On a adoré - Nous avons passé 3 jours formidables.
- anna (10/5): - This quiet beautiful location is priceless! The manager takes care of all details to make the customers comfortable for any possible situations. He totally spoiled us. We felt safe and free! We were equipped with bikes, headlamps, filtered water, mosquito repellent, fans...
- Romera (10/5): Abel was fantastic. He connects you with everything you want to do. 100% recommended. - Peaceful spot.
- Nastassja (10/5): -
- Jennifer (3/5): Either the price needs to be lower or the unit needs a total refresh to justify the price. We paid the same at the Sandb - The pros are that the woman who welcomed us was kind and offered a complimentary golf cart ride to the water taxi. It’s a nice quiet location and there is a pool to cool offs Be very careful when booking- this property has multiple units, and the listing photos are deceiving about which unit you are booking. The front apartment units seem quite nice. The “green room” however is a dump. Springs essentially coming out of the mattress, rust everywhere in the bathroom and kitchen tools. Either the price needs to be lower or the unit needs a total refresh to justify the price. We paid the same at the Sandbar in San Pedro for a gorgeous clean room with the same amenities. Owner did not answer any WhatsApp messages to address concerns
- Marya (9/5): Good value. - The owner was great and his work on the property was magnificent. It's a lovely setting and a wonderful walk, just the right distance, to town, THe place is beautiful inside and out and very roomy. The biggest problem I faced was the noisy fans. I also don't want to smell the mosquito coils which are hazardous to health.
Other than that, and a bit of mold in the shower, everything was super.
If he deals with these three issues, I would definitely give it a 10, exceeding expectations.
- Gregory (10/5): - We had a private pool. Away from the busy end of Caye Caulker.
- Susan (10/5): A lovely quiet stay in a beautiful location - Our apartment was right by the sea in a very quiet and beautiful location. Although some way from the action in Caye Caulker, Abel provided us with bikes and head torches - and we really enjoyed the freedom of cycling around and exploring. Abel was very helpful and thoughtful- a really excellent host. It was all great.
- Lisa (10/5): Very enjoyable - Our room was very comfortable. The location is south of town and far enough away to be quiet, but Abel provided us with bicycles to get back and forth, which was a great way to go.
- Teresa (10/5): We felt quite comfortable and relaxed. We would definitely stay again! - We stayed in the “Sunrise” room…it was clean, comfortable and quiet. Abel is a wonderful host…anything you need, just ask! He gave us wonderful suggestions for sunset bars and restaurants. Beautiful sunrises and sparkling clean swimming pool. There was filtered water and coffee maker in the room, and other nice touches. The bikes are free to use and headlamps are provided for after dark. Free use of the kayak. We enjoyed meeting the friendly doggies and kitties that live on the property. Full disclosure…it’s a little further away from town than other places, but we had free use of the bikes and it’s only a 10 or 15 minute bike ride from town. We didn’t mind at all.
- Jessica (8/5): - Beautiful quiet location. Abel was very helpful and accommodating. It was great to have use of the bicycles so we could explore the island. We would definitely stay here again.
- Jennifer (9/5): Nice, quiet location with sunrise view - Tranquil part of the island was very relaxing. Access to bikes to ride to restaurants or town were convenient. Room had a great sunrise view. Located close to the airport for a quick commute to Belize City. Low water pressure
- Linda (6/5): - Abel gracious host Wifi & water presseure was very weak
- Selmara (10/5): -
- Claudia (10/5): Perfect. - Very kind owner who gave us wonderful advice, beautiful dogs, bikes to use, and our lovely, sunrise-facing, room had WiFi, aircon, and was just perfect. If we have the chance to return we would definitely stay here again. Nothing.
- Denise (10/5): Go slow at Novelo - Great waterfront views and access to private jetty for great fishing and swimming. Swam also in the pool. Able our host was super responsive and accommodating. Enjoyed pats with dog and puppies. Nothing
- Helge (10/5): Fantastic and quite in Caye Caulker - Abel has created a true gem here, far from the hustle and bustle of Caye Caulker! Right on the ocean with easy access for a morning swim.
He picked us up from the pier and, of course, brought us back, so we found our accommodation without any worries! He also gave us helpful tips on where to relax or eat. Everything turned out to be perfect! Thank you so much for the wonderful time! Nothing to complain
- Sitara (9/5): -
- K (10/5): Beautiful, quite and relaxing - Was away from the people. Which I what I needed N/A
- Aimee (6/5): Kind and welcoming host, but the stay didn’t suit us due to location and facilities. - Firstly, I want to say that Abel is an exceptional host — truly one of the kindest we’ve had. He went out of his way to help us, including giving us lifts into town and to the ferry, letting us do laundry, and always being available for questions. He and his three dogs (Sparky, Nova and Neptune) really do make the place feel welcoming, and none of the below is a reflection on him as a fantastic host.
Unfortunately the accommodation wasn’t the right fit for us. We knew the location was remote when booking and the free bikes were great during the day and really opened up opportunities but cycling at night was inconvenient due to completely unlit dirt roads for a portion of the journey home.
Although the property advertises a pool and private dock, these personally weren’t usable for us. The dock was dirty with bird droppings and the seating wasn't fitted, the pool filter was rarely on and there was only one lounger round the pool. This meant we still had to cycle into town daily to relax, which for us defeated the purpose of staying outside town with such amenities.
Bugs were a major issue for us which can't be helped in Caye Caulker. Despite using repellents Abel kindly provided, we were heavily bitten especially around the pool area which meant we couldn't relax in an outdoor space given the green room didn't have a balcony.
The Green Room looked much nicer in person and was large and had everything you needed, but the chairs at the table repeatedly collapsed when we sat down at them which left us feeling there was no where to relax. The sunrise rooms looked much more comfortable with maintained outdoor spaces.
- Linda (8/5): - The place is cozy, has a great view and the owner is very friendly and helpful. He provided us with bikes for free for the whole stay, took us to the ferry on our last day very early in the morning and always reacted very quickly when we had questions. The apartment could be cleaned better as well as the kitchen supplies which were a little rusty.
- Quirke (10/5): Super peaceful spot, Abel was a pleasure to deal with and made sure we got in for our ferry when leaving. Gave great rec - Scenery was amazing It’s a little bit further out of the main town but Abel is so accommodating and provides bikes to his guests
- Erik (10/5): Exceptionally nice - Abel was the best host! He was always trying to give us the best experience possible, always coming up with a solution, if there was a problem. The location was excellent, a bit remote, but with the free bikes that were provided, that was no issue. There are also three cute dogs and a very friendly cat. In the night it could get a little warm. There are fans to cool you down, but no air conditioning.
- Anne (10/5): -
- Laura (10/5): - He was very kind
- Yuri (7/5): Okay value for money place - Nice bike service included to explore the island, front beach room is the one to choose Remote place, hot rooms and not very easy communication
- melissa (9/5): Amazing hospitality and very peaceful if you're looking for a place just outside of town - Abel was super accommodating and generous with us. The apartment is located just outside of the village which we enjoyed the peace and quiet. Bikes were provided for us, and it was about a 10 minute ride to town. No AC in the apartment but several fans.
- Piotr (6/5): Beautiful location, basic standard, mild inconveniences - The property is in a very scenic location. It’s also quite spacious, with a separate living space. It has pool which is great for Caye Caulker weather. The cats and dogs are gorgeous and friendly. Also, the neighbours daughter who assisted us in Abel’s absence was lovely and offered some great tips, while Abel himself was kind enough to drive us to the village ferry terminal There were a number of things that got in the way of our stay being fully comfortable. The whole space was sweltering hot, and there were no ceiling fans or AC. Instead there were 3 very loud standing fans, two of them without front covers. Everything on the property is rusty. The fridge was unplugged and warm when we came in and it would get warm during the day. The bathroom door Wasnt closing, the pool water was not cleaned. It was very thoughtful of Abel to have offered us bikes to get to the village, but they were in very bad shape, rusty, wirh their pedals getting stuck. There was a brief outage during our stay—fortunately, it was fixed very quickly.
- Martina (9/5): Very quiet and nice place - The apartment is located in a very quiet area in the southern part of the island. The host is very kind - he let us bicycles for free for the whole duration of our stay to move around the island and he even let us borrow kayaks! He also offered to change our bed linens and towels after a couple of days because we were staying there longer, which was very nice of him. Unfortunately when we went there the sea and the docks in front of the apartment were full of seaweed, so it was impossible to bathe there. It was probably a seasonal issue because other places in the island had a similar situation.
- Felipa (9/5): We stayed for one night. The host was excellent one of the best I’ve encounter vacation getting to and from the property - Very peaceful and as secluded from the main island
- Morgan (8/5): Very good - Wonderful space, great shower and comfortable bed. A little kitchenette too. We only stayed one night so didn’t get to enjoy all the facilities but the views and ambiance were so lovely. It is a bit far from town. If you want an easy walk into town it maybe not for you, especially if you like to stay out late because the paths get really dark. Would be good with golf cart too. And a nice bike ride (but maybe not in dark) If you love isolation and quiet it’s really beautiful and for nature lovers!
- Sara (10/5): Hidden gem off the beaten path - We absolutely loved this remote property. Abel made us feel like we were at home & his pup, Neptune, was so sweet! We enjoyed being away from the crown & having bicycles to adventure around.
- Kenji (10/5): Great get away - I liked I could walk right out into the pool. And the host was amazing!
- Joana (10/5): Super relaxing stay at a beautiful property - We really loved our short stay at The Novelo and wish we had been able to spend more time here! The house is beautiful, the pool is awesome and we loved the calm location with sea views. With the bikes it was very nice and easy to get into town and a beautiful little adventure in the evening. The owner is a very welcoming and helpful host!
I would always choose this place over the city centre, it’s such a gem and delivered such awesome Caye Caulker vibes! Our room didn’t have too much daylight but it helps with the heat!
- Andres (10/5): Relaxing experience in Caye Caulker - Great addition to The Novelo. This brand new studio where we just stayed on the first floor is outstanding. In the early morning you see the sun rising over the Belize Barrier Reef, there is no better way to start the day. Even from the sofa inside, you have the greatest view of the turquoise waters of the Caribbean sea in front of you.
It is a big unit with all the comfort and privacy, offering ample spaces, lots of sunlight, a big bathroom, big sofa, a kitchen area, and of course, the ample open veranda with two chairs and a big table overlooking the sea.
The studio has windows all around so the breeze keeps it cool and refreshing; it also has two fans at the sides of the bed but we didn't really need them.
The Novelo is a 10 min short bicycles ride away from the village, with a swimming pool and free kayaks and bicycles. We can't wait to return a next time and be welcomed by Abel, who is a great host taking real care of his clients and all their needs.
- Kathryn (10/5): Exceptional - A great place with a beautiful deck with sea views. I loved lying in the hammock reading my book and listening to the waves laping the shore. The host was a lovely man, very friendly and helpful. We were able to use his bikes to explore the island which we really enjoyed. Its a little to the south of town, so is quieter and more laid back.
- Sophia (10/5): Perfect - Neptune the dog and the peace and quiet of the area
- Belén (9/5): Great calm accommodation within short biking distance from centre - This accommodation is great if you like to be a bit more quiet area but restaurants/cafes etc. were very easily accessible by complimentary bikes. Apartment is very spacious. Great views! Nice pool/hangout area. The owner is super friendly and even gave us a ride into town at check out. Nothing really. The kitchen could have used a few more utilities maybe.
- Deandrea (10/5): I can not wait to return. - My accommodation was perfect, the host and dog Neptune was amazingly kind.
I felt extremely safe. No complaints
- Kathy (9/5): A comfortable stay on this very laid back island - A very spacious apartment at the quieter end of the island. The owner, Abel, was very friendly and helpful, made us feelat home and even gave us a lift back for our early ferry departure. Although a bit of a trek into the centre - about a 20 minute walk, there were bikes and head torches available to use. There was a small pool and a pier in front of the property that you could sit on and watch the sunset. The apartment is quite "quirky" and a little old-fashioned and may not suit those looking for something more modern, but it was spacious and comfortable. Unlike the front unit, it didn't have a porch to relax on, which would have been nice, but there were chairs by the pool.
- Qian (10/5): Great host and great views. - Abel is a great host! Provided us bikes to ride throughout our stay and also had a kayak for us to take out on the water. The dock right outside the home was also lovely to enjoy. We loved our stay! None
- Jonisha (10/5): Wonderful, quiet and comfortable. - Abel is a gem in Belize! He made sure that our stay was amazing and comfortable from start to finish. The location was a perfect distance from the hustle and bustle of town. We used the bikes he provided to ride to town- he also drove us on his golf cart to town and to drop us off at the water taxi. 10/10, I would recommend!!!!!!
- Maria (10/5): Perfect stay in Caye Caulker - For us, The Novelo was the perfect place to vacation in Caye Caulker. I agree with many other previous comments: Abel is the perfect host, he made our stay fantastic! The apt is a short ride from the village in the bicycles he puts at our disposal. We loved riding all day along the little island, i would never miss that, so much fun. The unit where we stayed is brand new, the one with A/C , though we didnt use it, just the fans and the breeze were enough. The best way to start the day was sipping a coffee in the sitting area in our private verandah. Also the swimming pool is super nice, just for the use of the three units. The free kayaks and the outdoor bbq are interesting too, though we didnt have the time to use them.
- Jennifer (7/5): Good - Host Abel was great!
The bicycles are a great way to get around the island. The pool area is not kept up as good as it should. There is only one sunbed, so we ended up not spending any time there.
- Liz (8/5): Very good -
- Lisa (10/5): We had such a good time there, we're promising ourselves to return again someday. - The property is on the outskirts of town, but we really appreciated that. The owner picked us up in his golf cart and delivered us to the dock when we left, and lent us two beach cruiser bikes to ride the ten minutes to town, which made us feel like locals. He also provided a kayak which we took out a once for a stunning sunset ride, and we also made us of the dock near his property to sit quietly in the shade and gaze out at the blue water. The swimming pool is small but cleaned daily, and perfect for one or two people (my husband and I got to enjoy it for ourselves for morning swims). The older unit is funky and artistic, while the newer unit has AC and a modern look.
- Catherine (10/5): Exceptional - Nice quiet location, Abel the owner gave us bikes to get around the island and he took us to the ferry terminal when leaving to save us getting a taxi. Lovely pool, well equipment kitchen ( no stove top) . Abel also left lots of bug spray to protect us from mosquitoes when raining.
- David (9/5): Superb - The location, the big space. The small little details, books and the hospitality!
(9/5): I love caye caulker - The isolated of the place.
It’s depend on the person but it was a realy nice experience to ride the bike for getting to the main road.
Abel was excellent host he helped us when we were tired of riding the bikes to get to the main road. Also he helped me with booking the dives at the blue hole and it was great. Blankets.
- Eric (8/5): The quiet, secluded Novelo has much to offer. - We liked the beautiful location as it was relatively remote, had gorgeous panaramas and little road traffic. The roads south of the airport are worse than those in town and getting a taxi can be difficult. The Blue Room was large and adequately furnished. Abel, the host, was very helpful and engaging. The room came with bicycles that made it easy to get around the Caye. It is unique on Caye Caulker. A coffee maker would have been nice but we didn’t request one, our fault. Also would have liked filtered water in the five gallon bottles.
- Sanya (10/5): Exceptional - Abel was so helpful in making sure the WiFi was working and helped us into town at times. The place was so amazing for a traveler with the beach front location. We loved the bikes usage also and that he supplied filtered water. Caye Caulker itself is amazing. What a fun little getaway place! Maybe just add a larger mirror outside the bathroom. And it would be great to have a small bottle of oil for cooking.
- Browning (8/5): Very good -
- Frank (7/5): Good - Very clean, nice host, very private Too far from the village and activities and the road leading to it very rough.
- Nicola (10/5): Beautiful Place with nice host and Creative Apartment. - Quiet located, right on the ocean, but no Beach. Nature, Kajak, Bike. Well Equipted kitchen. Clean. Appartement had no Seat View and was a bit dark
- Elena (8/5): Lovely getaway - The stay was very pleasant in a quiet area, but reachable by bicycle or even walk. The host is very friendly and helpful. Thank you, Abel. Nothing
- Jenner (8/5): Very good - Quiet location, great view Mosquitoes!
- Johan (8/5): Ok but a bit too far from center - Quietness Need a bit of a facelift.
- Adam (5/5): Good location but a few issues - Free water, free bike hire, quiet location away from the centre, nice dock by the beach to relax on. Quite damp and it needs a really good clean (see picture of taps). Shower had hot water only for about 5 seconds out of every minute.
Apartment upstairs is quite noisy and there is a generator outside which makes noise too.
Internet didn't work either but not a problem as we bought SIM cards.
- Emilie (7/5): I don’t understand why the price is that high - Very clean, the host is very kind and helped us with the kayak. There is two for 2 person. I recommend to go to the left where you can go near Hol chan marine, the water is amazing! There is also free bikes to go to the village The location is far from the village, which wasn’t very accommodate. The host is kind enough to take you by golf cart in the morning and when you leave, which was very appreciate. The road by bike is about 10min from the village. The pool wasn’t clean while our stay.
- Grace (9/5): overall a great stay - we had a great stay. was nice to have access to bikes. quiet location close to the center we didn't have access to any blankets.
- Della (10/5): Exceptional - Great little spot in a quieter part of the island. Still close to everything and bikes included to easily get around the island.
- Andrew (9/5): Abel (the owner) was very friendly and eager to help. A good 4 day stay. - Good room and good value for money.
- Mel (8/5): Very good - Abel was such a wonderful host, really welcoming and gave us all the information we could need. Went out of his way to make our stay comfortable. The ride to the ferry at the end of our stay was greatly appreciated. Bikes were handy for getting into town. A lovely peaceful part of the island. Nature Trail is fun to walk. Pool is a welcome cool down on hot days. Beds were really comfortable. The hot water in the shower was temperamental, but it was hot enough outside it wasn't a big issue.
- James (6/5): An Amazing Place - Unless The Island is Flooded - It pains me to give this place this rating, because the staff, Abel and Jennifer, are as nice and helpful people as you will meet. If you want attentive, friendly and helpful staff for your stay, then look no further than here. My rating needs to be taken in context - I stayed here during fairly unprecedented November rains in Belize, and Caye Caulker got flooded. The problem is, that due to the location, while other places on the island were relatively accessible despite the flooding, you could not get here without riding for some distance through bucketloads of standing water and smelly mud on unstable pathways, in pitch black darkness at night. By the stay's end, my clothes smelt of fairly putrid mud (some still do) and it was impossible to feel clean and dry in the property.
It's not their fault. The people here are great. But the location...It really tainted the stay unfortunately. I think in better weather perhaps it would be less of an issue.
- Jennifer (10/5): Abel & Jennifer are terrific hosts! Always available to help and gave us great recommendations & assistance! L - Beautiful property and private location away from the town, but close enough to be convenient. We especially loved the covered pier! N/A
- Emma (10/5): Beautiful place to stay, owner was wonderful, free bikes to use- 8-10 min ride to shops - Pool

- Universe-traveler799 (9/5): We would definitely stay here again, super friendly staff - Peaceful
- Eva (9/5): Superb - The host of The Novelo, Abel, is amazing. So kind, easy-going and prepared to do everything for you. We were able to ride his bikes and we got free drinkwater whenever we needed it. The swimming pool and the room itself were a little bit dirty, but still okay!
- Tim (7/5): No air conditioning makes sleeping difficult for foreigners - On the sea side with a fresh breeze. Very nice people and a good dipping pool. Bikes for free and a good kayak available (but difficult to get out from shore and not a lot to see). We did not understand that this is an eco-property which essentailly means badly built, poor plumbing and wiring and NO AC. Hard to sleep with fan noise or without!
- Sebastian (10/5): Exceptional - We had a lovelytime there! Amazing host and a beautiful place. We loved the bikes, the pool and also the pets 😊
GO SLOW😉
- Markmarshall (10/5): Little gem - Absolutely loved this place. For me it was perfect 👌 on the far south end of the island away from everything. I loved it as I liked to see the stars at night and the peace and quiet. The bikes are perfect for getting around on and Abel was kind enough to run as about a couple of times as well. The pool was nice and well maintained. I would definitely stay here again. Personally the lack of air-conditioning was not an issue for me as the 3 fans were fine but may not be good for everyone.
- Kim (8/5): lovely relaxing second half of the week on Caye Caulker. - location was a little quieter as out from the main centre but easily accessible by bicycle. Lovely host Abel who kindly picked me and my luggage up and dropped me back at the water taxi. nothing really, it was just missing a kettle and a toaster.
- Seong (4/5): I did not hurt oweners pride & could not tell him how uncomfortable & not clean… & far fr village… - nothing very dirty found roaches 1960 old stove & refrigerator … all fixtures inside were acidified & Brocken .. I checked out 3 days before checking out dates..
- Tim (9/5): Superb - the Pool en the hostes maybe some more kitchen stuff to cook a proper meal.
- Crystal (8/5): Very good - It was so quiet and peaceful.
Lots of space and enjoyed dipping my toes in the pool in the evening to help cool off.
Having bikes to use while there was very nice esp.since it was a bit of a hike from the village.
Hosts were very accommodating and picked us from the airport and when departing took us to the water taxi.
I cant wait to go back and spend a longer time It wasn't exactly beachfront like i imagined but we found places to go easily enough.
We arrived when the sarghassam did which was unfortunate.
- Jeanne (7/5): Good -
- Rosa (9/5): Superb - We loved the quiet location. Only an 8 minute bike ride to the central area in town. The bikes were even included with our reservation :) Very spacious and lovely swimming pool area. Very nice hosts. One of the few quiet places on the island.
- Lauren (10/5): Exceptional - I really loved staying here. It was peaceful and relaxing. The blue apartment is very comfortable and it was great having drinking water. There were bikes to use to get into town. The bike ride into town is lovely amongst the mangroves. I liked everything!
- Angelika (10/5): Already recommended to a friend :) - great, spacious room with a kitchen! Clean pool on the property, Abel and Jennifer were great hosts, recommended us places to go on an island and rented bikes and kayaks! Also, the place is 10 min bike ride from the town which is awesome because it's nice and calm! I took a bug spray as recommended but unfortunately I am all bitten up. Not sure if it's the problem around Novelo (due to being deep in the forest) or the island but man, I am itchy!
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emily (10/5): Exceptional - Adrián, the neighbor, was stepping in for the usual host. He was amazing. Literally checked in on us and helped us with everything we could have possibly needed. They provided bikes for free. Loaned us a kayak for free. Adrian and his brother put it in the water and carried it back for us when we were done. He dropped us off at the boat on our last day, in his golf cart. The pool was cool. The room was huge with a great kitchen. Seriously, best place we stayed on a 3 week trip. The host, Adrian, made the place. He claims the usual host is way better😂😊🙏 Honestly, nothing. Bring bug spray. If there's no breeze can be buggy by pool or walking there.
*the location is about a 5-10 minute bike ride from the action. We loved being on the quiet side of the island, but maybe not for everyone?
- D (10/5): An Inspiring Habitation for Writers, Musicians, Solo-Travelers, and Lovers. - This will be a long review:
One thing to keep in mind before booking: if you're coming in from Belize City and require a ferry to Caye Caulker, the last boat leaves at 5:30pm. You might have to book a rental for the night in the city and then ride the ferry next day.
The kind host called a taxi to pick me up and take me to the ferry. Upon arriving at The Novelo, a woman who lived next door contacted my host. (I didn't have a Belizian sim card). Shortly after, I was greeted by Max, the host's son. He brought me to my rental, the 'Blue Abel'. He kindly welcomed me and explained all the things I needed to know about staying there. After he left, his kind and beautiful girlfriend greeted me. She answered all of my questions and we had a lovely conversation. She and Max live on the 2nd floor, right above the rental, so they were easily accessible. The host was also very kind and answered any questions I had. She even called me beautiful~ (Bless her heart~ ^_^*) The rental is very large and is located right on the beach. Inside is beautifully decorated with mosaic art, charming prints, lovely furniture, and a great library. The bathroom was beautifully designed, with hot water that never wavered. The wifi was very stable. There were no mosquitoes nor crawling bugs. I slept very, very well. It was dark outside and I was very hungry. No one was available to drive me by golf-cart, so I rode one of the bicycles. [I guess this was the one thing I didn't like: None of the bicycles were cleaned and/or prepared for use. They were caked in grey mud. I chose the bicycle with the least mud on it. Bad-part, fin.] TIP FOR RIDING THE BICYCLES AT NIGHT: There are no street lamps. The host has head-lamps for you to use. Regarding the large puddles; DO NOT RIDE AROUND THEM. The mud is soft and slippery, which might cause you to fall or get your shoes dirty. Ride through the puddles because there is stable ground that will support your ride-through. THIS IS NOT NEGATIVE. I RAN OUT OF SPACE IN THE "WHAT DID YOU LIKE?" PART:
This key detail of the bike-usage will make your visit easier and you will find yourself eager to ride each time. I didn't mind the lumpy roads. They were made by nature.
The ferry ride was great and quite inexpensive. I took the last ferry which was a most amazing experience: Not only did I watch the sunset, but saw the sky fill up with stars. Total inspiration for poetry and romance. The ferry was full of really cool travelers; there was also a boom-box that played the best Reggae. When I arrived in Caye Caulker, it was at night. This place was unlike any I've ever been. A modern-day Studio Ghibli animated story could easily be based here. The island was bustling with friendly people out for the night, great music, and wonderful smells from various restaurants. Especially Steve's restaurant. He was bbq-ing customers' food. Getting a golf-cart taxi to The Novelo was a bit difficult: Drivers would say, "Oh, that's too far!", which I found hilarious because it's an island. Steve's colleague contacted a driver to take me to the Novelo. My driver was very kind. He told me about the relaxed vibe of the island and the people. Everyone pretty much gets along very well there: It's a melting-pot just like NYC, but everyone really treats one another as family. Not "like" family; but literally as* family. The locals were very friendly and I ate very, very delicious food. I highly recommend The Novelo and Caye Caulker. Don't hesitate to book your reservation there. The price is very good and I enjoyed my stay. I wish I stayed longer.
