Guest Reviews

- Ronald (10/5): Impossible beauty, tremendous service, and comfortable atmosphere: Don't hesitate! - Had an absolutely wonderful experience here -- Pension Gimmelwald (and Gimmelwald as a whole) is like nothing I'd experienced before: A funky, family-run hotel in an almost impossibly gorgeous mountain village with spectacular views, hiking, natural features, livestock, and food and drink. Staff here were incredibly friendly and kind, and the hotel's restaurant and beer garden were fantastic spots for a meal, drink, or snack. We had dinner here one night, which was quite good, and the other night had a pizza at the hostel that was just steps away (which was surprisingly great!). I loved just having a drink in the cozy lounge/living room area at the end of each evening.
The rooms are funky but comfortable. Don't expect the modern amenities of a big city hotel (our room had a private bathroom, but it did not have things like USB chargers or television -- which you don't need because the views are breathtaking)...but considering all of the above, a tremendous value and just a once-in-a-lifetime experience. Don't hesitate to reserve a room here! Considering that many people visit this part of the world to hike, rock climb, and do other outdoor pursuits, the fact that the front desk didn't open until 8am was a little inconvenient -- I would have liked to have checked out and have been on my way before then...but I'm sure if you talk to the staff ahead of time, they can make accommodations for you. I just didn't have the foresight to do so myself!
- Susan (10/5): Unique. Loving. Home. - Everything and everyone. Nothing.
- Dagmar (10/5): -
- Alfred (9/5): - Sehr freundliche, hilfsbereite Wirtin.
Auch das Personal war sehr freundlich.
- Tuomas (10/5): Mahtava viikko kotoisassa majoituksessa. - Omistaja on aivan mahtava, samoin majapaikan tunnelma. Hyvälle hiihtäjälle ja hyvän lumitilanteen vallitessa sijainti on periaatteessa ski-in/ski-out; jos lunta on kyläkorkeudessa liian vähän tai laskija kokematon, majapaikan viereen pääsee kabiinihissillä. Kesäkaudella sijainti on vaeltamisen kannalta ensiluokkainen.

- Daniel (10/5): Fantastic escape to a quiet and authentic piece of the alps. Very highly recommend! - Location is amazing away from the busy touristy feel of other towns. Close to the start of heaps of hiking trails. Staff were fabulous! Very knowledgeable and friendly. Great vibe in the bar of an evening, guests sharing their adventures of the day. Nothing it was great!

- Jane (10/5): Superb location - Amazing location and a lovely vibe
- Suzanne (8/5): A charming Swiss alpine village stay - It was very authentic to the Swiss alpine village atmosphere , I loved the coziness of the pensione. The staff were excellent. The location was
Convenient a few 100 metre from the tram. The creaks from every movement of guests that made it authentic

- Brad (10/5): We loved our stay at Pension and Gimmelwald was the most magical place we visited in Switzerland. - The staff were amazing and made us feel at home. Breakfast was really great and value for money. The location was totally amazing!!! There were not many vegetarian or pescatarian options for dinner whilst we stayed there.
- Michael (10/5): Thanks for a great three nights! - Excellent setting, clean, great staff!
- Emmanuelle (10/5): -
- Martinc (9/5): - Okolica
- Carole (9/5): Quiet, cozy place to stay in Switzerland - The owner and staff were wonderful! Located in a quiet little mountainside town, Pension Gimmelwald was a comfortable, cozy place to stay. The owner even shared the recipe for her wonderful almond cake! I wish there had been a common area to sit and relax when the bar and kitchen were closed

- Mary (10/5): Do not miss this place !!! - Breathtaking. Cozy. Accommodating. We hiked around, sliding on their sleds everywhere. Up and down the amazing mountain cable cars. Available right out the door from Pension. Owners are on sight and most helpful. We sat late afternoon by a stove fire and sipped beer and wine…Homemade dinner. Very very affordable!! Would / will come back. Absolutely nothing!!! Got to like the mountains!!!!
- Janneke (10/5): Exceptional - The charming atmposphere, pretty location in car free Village, warm hospitality, help and tips. Personal contact. Nothing, it exceeded our expectations.
- Philip (10/5): Exceptional - Absolutely everything. The location is stunning. The atmosphere in the hotel is special and the owners and staff were lovely. The rooms
were cozy and the beer exceptional. The only downside of our stay was my wife arrived sick. The owners went out of their way to make sure she was comfortable and able to recover. At such a busy time as Christmas this was truly appreciated and we hope to be back so we can all experience this wonderful place again together.
- Kemper (10/5): Exceptional - This place was amazing. Wonderful staff, wonderful location. Couldn’t have been happier.
- Susan (10/5): Exceptional - Everything about this lovely place! From the opening welcome from Sabena to our last day sitting in the sun drinking Schwarz Monch. It was everything I had hoped. There was nothing we didn't like.
- William (10/5): Charming homely stay in Gimmelwald - Awesome atmosphere the staff have created. Homely feel, well-decorated, and a charming historic building. Delicious breakfast & dinner--would highly recommend that experience too! Creeky floors could be loud, but that was understandable given the age of the building
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- Claudia (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing location, peaceful, and wonderful food.
- Peter (10/5): Great location and people. Just amazing!! - Great location and people. Just amazing!! Great location and people. Just amazing!!
- Schermer (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ryan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Atu (8/5): Very good -
- Jennifer (10/5): Exceptional - The folks who run this venue are amazing. Sabina was so helpful, straight forward, accommodating. For anyone who wants an amazing experience off the beaten path, the is is your vacation spot.
- Tina (8/5): Gimmelwald: stay real, stay magical! - I loved the nooks and interesting seating options throughout; from inside the restaurant/bar area to the deck outside facing the mountains. The setting is the star, but the vibe is enhanced with music tracks that always seemed perfect; I loved the breakfast, but only opted for one dinner. They serve one meal family style; since I am a little "particular" and not much for red meat etc. The one meal I ate was a pasta dish, salad and dessert - wonderful and a lot - you get your money's worth! The one lunch item I ordered was delicious and substantial: grilled Halloumi cheese on a roll with tomato, lettuce and a slightly spicey condiment with potato salad and greens. Fresh and tasty and no meat!
People come from all around the globe to visit; this is a fun place, but if you want to experience this awe-inspiring setting quietly, you can do that too. The pillow (only one) was too soft. I asked for another one and it helped, but I prefer firm pillows in general, and this is a problem in the USA as well.
- Archana (9/5): The staff was excellent, we felt like we were staying with the family! One of the kids with us twisted her ankles, they - Location and the staff N/A
- Scott (7/5): Good - Fabulous location. Nice deck setting and view. Good beer. Underwhelming & overpriced breakfast. Property needs some TLC.
- Danuradi (9/5): Superb -
- Brian (10/5): Peace and joy! - If you are looking at this location, then you likely already know what Gimmelwald represents. A small community near Mürren, so cozy, clean, and natural. We had an amazing experience returning to this villa after 14 years. The Pension and hosts were extraordinary. Be sure to join for dinner!
- Daniel (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bill (9/5): Superb -
- Pat (10/5): Exceptional -
- Barry (8/5): I - Excellent breakfast. And Location is perfect. The rooms have almost no sound insulation. A person walking upstairs feels as if they’re walking in your room just louder. This means that when a person gets up early, you get up at the same time because the Noise is so high
- Kimberlie (10/5): Sabine is the best hostess ever!! Very kind/full of fun/willing to share adventurous activities with us! Absolu - Absolutely the best welcoming and experience we could have ever expected! Nothing!
- Adam (9/5): Superb -
- Karla (10/5): Our family loved our time there, definitely would book again - It was very a cute property the views were amazing, the staff were friendly, the home cooked meal was delicious and they were lovely to my children Nothing

- Debra (10/5): The most quaint, comfortable amazing hostel. Great place to get away from the busy city! - This was the most inviting, confortable, relaxing hostel! The hosts were SO accommodating, check in was amazing. So quaint, didnt want to leave! No negative comments
- Darrick (9/5): Superb -
- Gideon (9/5): Superb - Amazing location
Wonderful helpful and accommodating staff
- Annabelle (8/5): Charming - Unspoilt alpine village and glimpse of rural Switzerland. Charming staff. Noisy Saturday night party at next door hostel but otherwise a perfect stay.
- James (9/5): Superb -
- Lisa (10/5): An incredible way to experience switzerland. - Incredible location, unique property, amazing hospitality. Mountain views were unbelievable. I enjoyed dinner cooked by the owner two out of the four nights I stayed and it was delicious. It feels like you are stepping into another world or another time altogether- truly felt like an escape from modern life which is exactly what I was seeking. This is a very small complaint compared to how wonderful the stay was, but its worth noting noise travels very easily. I was worried this would keep me up at night however I just played some white noise on my phone.
- Frances (8/5): I enjoyed our July stay at the Pension Gimmelwald in the beautiful alps! - This is a well preserved 19th century hotel located in the beautiful alps. The rooms were large with comfortable beds. A sink is in the room. There is a fun casual bar/ restaurant area that has a guitar, piano, books and board games. You will need to take the cable car to access Gimmelwald, a non car hamlet. The hamlet of Murren is a very short walk. This is a very old structure. We used the stairs to access the 3 floor hotel. We didn’t notice an elevator.
- Janelle (10/5): Fantastic stay in charming Swiss guesthouse - Staying here, you feel like you're in a friend's home. The staff makes you feel welcome and nothing is a bother.
Very laid-back feel, nothing stuffy and formal. Breakfast was great. We had bread, jam, cheese, coffee, fruit, yogurt and musseli each morning we wanted it. Flowers and candles on the table were a nice touch; nice background music. Dinner and drinks also great--we usually ate on the terrace with a drop-dead gorgeous view of the mountains. Loved the old wooden Swiss hamlet feel. Loved the robes and slippers. Very comfy beds and pillows. I can't think of anything I didn't like. I was wondering if I'd mind not having a private bathroom, but it wasn't really an issue.
- Anonymous (10/5): Excellent - The atmosphere of the building and rooms against the mountain scenery is stunning. Get rid of the outdoor bar. Open up the view. The flies are annoying, but not much can be done.
- Connie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Edijs (10/5): Exceptional - Very nice and cozy little room.
- Gupta (10/5): Exceptional -
- Shelly (10/5): Exceptional -
- Catrin (9/5): Amazing relaxing stay with beautiful views, exceptional mountain experience, very friendly hos - The place was authentic and cozy. The owner was very friendly and welcoming. We enjoyed the view from the terrace and the very good food. We had a shared bathroom what we usually do not book, but it was not a problem. It is an old wooden house and this is what we wanted. The place was very enjoyable for our children and they would like to come back (parents as well). It is a very peaceful place in the mountains, where you can do a lot of hiking activities from there and forget your stress. You might here some noise from your room neighbor, walking on top of your room or from neighboring rooms. But it was bearable and usually short as everybody is tired from day trips. If you like an authentic old wooden house, those are acceptable side effects. Everything else made us want to come back.
- Anonymous (9/5): Beautiful and unique location! - Beautiful location.
- Andrew (10/5): We had a delightful stay at Pension Gimmelwald, and hope we can return again! - We loved the entire experience! We felt welcomed and taken care of by the staff, and we really enjoyed getting to know them. Our room was lovely, and we loved getting to look out our windows and see paragliders, mountains, and the garden with chickens. The location in Gimmelwald is ideal! The food was amazing - Jens did an awesome job on the barbecue! We would definitely come back. Thank you to Elena, Heike, and Sabine. You all are amazing hosts and so hardworking! Noise from the room next door was a bit distracting.
- Claudia (10/5): Magical fairytale like ! - Absolutely fairy tale like! Charming, authentic, stunning views, awesome food and wonderful accommodations! Beds had feather bed comforters , shared bath rooms were meticulously clean- felt like visiting family. Truly magical! While efforts were made to control them flies were abound. But,that can be expected with cows and sheep and horses around, just a bit annoying
- Kevin (8/5): Very good - The location is absolutely perfect, the food at breakfast is simple but good and the dinners are lovely. The bar is stocked well enough and the house beer is delicious! As an old building, there will be creaking and cracking but it's part of the charm for me.
- Shannon (8/5): Pension Grimmelwald is a quaint hotel pension. - This is a quaint older hotel/pension with shared bathrooms (why I gave it a 4 instead of a 5.) The outside patio with spectacular views and the home brew was great. It is family-friendly with children playing (somewhat noisy) and babies. We ate dinner and breakfast at the hotel, and the food was ok. The staff was very friendly.
- Matthew (9/5): Exceptional views, great staff, unending charm…an unforgettable experience - Pensión Gimmelwald has endless charm. The home is situated steps from the cable car station and the views are absolutely jaw dropping. Sabine and the staff are perfectly attentive and clearly enjoy being the gracious hosts that they are. The rooms are impeccably clean and larger than expected. The rustic charm and ambience and the warmth of the hosts truly make this a home away from home. It was an unforgettable experience! Sharing a bath is always going to be a small challenge/adventure. The house is creaky and charming, but if you’re a light sleeper, you may want to bring earplugs.
- Stephanie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Donald (8/5): Charmingly rustic pensione with friendly, energetic staff - Fantastic location, friendly and accommodating staff, great value.
- Patrice (10/5): Exceptional -
- Kevin (9/5): Superb - location, great food and drink small
- Addy (10/5): The views are amazing. -
- Bakhrom (10/5): Exceptional -
- Cag (10/5): It truly could not have been better. - The food was excellent. Beyond expectations. The location could not have been better. I'm not into exciting aprés-ski. Just what I want after a hard day of skiing, quiet and relaxing The only thing that would have made it better? If I could've stayed longer.
- Hubert (8/5): Very good -
- Nataliia (10/5): Exceptional - The property is really lovely. We had a room with a private bathroom and it was very clean, very nicely decorated. It exceeded all our expectations.
- Conrad (8/5): Very good - What a lovely stay in Pension Gimmelwald! Sabine is great! We feel like home.
The kids enjoyed our stay too The hotel have toys, books and kids entertainment. :)
Will definetely come back and recommend this place to our friends.
- Jeffrey (10/5): Exceptional -
- Bridgette (10/5): Gem atop the most beautiful mountain range in the world! - We absolutely loved this little gem on top the mountain! The staff was incredibly kind and accommodating and funny! It felt so homey and rustic with an exceptional view! The rooms had everything you needed. We were laughing at the height of the ceiling in the corridors to our room and in our room as my 6 foot sister just fit…we were told the Swiss used to be very short people. It only added to the charm! The food was delicious and we enjoyed playing a board game after dinner in the cozy dining area/living room. The location was absolutely perfect and you could just stay there the whole time content with the view and atmosphere. Hikes all around and nice, adventurous people to meet! nothing not to love!
- Noufal (10/5): had a wonderful time in Switzerland with pension will come back again . - the owner she is a wonderful person , and very good reception and kind of supports . nothing to say
