Guest Reviews
- Anja (9/5): -
- Gesine (10/5): - Alles war wunderbar, insbesondere der traumhafte Ausblick! Vielen Dank!
- theresa (10/5): Perfect. - The house is comfortable and clean. The grounds are spectacularly beautiful. Breakfast was fabulous. And the hosts are friendly, communicative, responsive, basically everything you could hope for. Loved it all.
- Jerry (10/5): Peaceful, relaxing and welcoming stay with amazing hosts! - Owners ivannia and Lidier are amazing hosts! They are a welcoming and humble that source most of the breakfast - eggs, fruit, jams, honey, coffee, spices - from their property. The little that isn’t sourced on the property is from neighbors or relatives nearby. Everything is organic and fresh. If you don’t have a car, it is difficult because it is down in the valley of San Luis (only 15 minutes by car to the biological reserve Monteverde). There are few services nearby ( a small mini mart) but it is quiet and peaceful.
- Simon (3/5): Not again. - The garden looks nice. The house was well equipped and clean. The check was a disaster as the host was not aware of our stay. No instructions were given, barely no internet as it is very remote. The host was not responding to our messages and calls. We gave up but then fortunately saw a neighbour who helped us to contact the host so we could get the key. But it took quite some time overall. Next morning the host told us they did not see our reservation due to some issues with the website. Not what that means, but for a remote location like this it is unacceptable.
We were slightly more charged than what was shown on booking.

- Jacob (8/5): Know what it is before you book just on reviews! - We really enjoyed the beautiful property, farm animals, garden, and the hosts, and especially the farm fresh breakfasts! We also appreciated the quiet location and beautiful sunsets, being a (thrilling) 20 minute drive from town. You have to know what you're getting into... If rustic ecotourism is your thing, you'll love it! However, it was a bit rustic for my family.
To be fair, I booked quickly, based on the aggregate rating, not reading the details of the 4 star (or less) reviews, and I didn't study the photos. The intent of the review is mostly to help the owners offer a better experience to guests, because they were very kind and generous. But also, I wish for others to know if this experience is for them.
There isn't AC (which we knew when we booked) and it was fairly warm during our stay. The issue wasn't the temperature, but that there wasn't great ventilation or cross breeze inside from the windows. With good air flow, it would've been comfortable.
Also there wasn't screening on the bath window or seals around the exterior doors, making it a bit buggy inside. My wife and daughter got past it after 2 days.
The beds were uncomfortable. My wife and I felt like we were rolling into the middle of the bed... Didn't get one good night of sleep.
The living room doesn't accommodate 4 people, making it impossible to play cards with our kids in the evening, when it's too buggy on the porch. My suggestion would be to remove the desk and add two more seats.
And the shower pressure was too light for my daughter and wife to wash their hair in... Not a problem for my son and me.
For the right type of travelers, this may be the perfect stay... But I guess we're not them. I don't regret the experience, but would do it differently.
- Nella (9/5): Really amazing, thanks! - Such a nice place to stay, afar from the city and with an amazing view. We really enjoyed spending 2 days there, watching the sunset and relaxing on the terrasse. It was perfect! Nothing. You’ll read in the comments that the road is tricky - it is the first time, but if you have an adapted car, then it’s perfectly fine.
- Gillian (10/5): A peaceful stay outside of Monteverde - We loved being away from the crowds and having a more rustic experience on this lovely little farm near San Luis. Gracious hosts and yummy breakfasts! I particularly liked the blackberry jam! Nice view from the hammocks on the front porch. Was small but cosy. Nothing
- Kurt (9/5): Superb - Great spot. Friendly. Private entire house on a farm property with many birds. Fantastic breakfast. There is a fun local playground our 2 & 4 year old had lots of fun walking to and playing at just 200m away. Close enough to Monteverde but a nice experience outside of it and of course, cheaper for it. Not sure I read just how rough the road is. Not their fault but could caution you. Either direction is rough. Rough and steep parts.
Holes in the window screens and fully open parts to the doors and windows may put off some travellers. It may be the norm in some areas of CR but we didn't experience that anywhere else.
Squeaky doors need some oiled hinges and rubber stripping so they don't bang in the wind which is intense at times of the year. We just closed a few tissues into them to quiet them but this could be fixed.
- Emilie (10/5): The ultimate best spot - Everything you need and more! The host is wonderful, so nice and accommodating. We were able to tour the property to see all sorts of beautiful birds and monkeys, plus she offered some fresh vegetables from her huge garden and made delicious breakfast. It’s super close to the park with multiple point of views of the way. Fully equipped house with comfy beds in the middle of pure nature!
- Christopher (9/5): Cute place. Well maintained. Highly recommended. - Great secluded location. A little difficult to find, particularly after dark given the relatively secluded location. Could used better directions.
- Zhen (9/5): Superb - The location about 15 min drive away from Montverde Forest Park is excellent, ensconced in a verdant valley with an open view to the west (and sunset!). The cabin is on the host's family farm/garden, very peaceful and beautiful. Home-made breakfast with local ingredients is a real treat, and served on the spacious porch with wooden furniture and hammocks. (We were also able to use a handy manual washing machine and hang dry on clothing lines on the porch overnight.)
We left behind a cellphone by accident. The kind host is very responsive when contacted and kept it till we returned form visiting another place. The retrieval trip was a detour but it allowed us to discover and visit the fantastic little paradise with 200+ species of fora and fauna just a few minutes away: Finca Ecologica San Luis, run by a family who lives on the premise. Highly recommended, especially to bird lovers. It's not a dislike really: the strong winds at night in this season could make a light sleeper a bit wakeful. But the immersive experience in rain forest is worth it all.
- Roshan (5/5): Good location but house need to be upgraded - Location and nature Too many insects and bathroom needs to be revamped entirely. Also windows and doors need to have net installed to protect insects and bugs from coming inside
Also appliances are pretty old
- Phillip (10/5): A Forest Gem shines even in the rains. - We loved the remote, quaint cabin with an amazing view, nestled into a lush garden filled with the sights and sounds of tropical nature. The hosts were very accommodating and made a hearty breakfast for us every morning. The location was convenient enough to explore Monteverde on our day trips, but offered calm and peacefulness with a beautiful patio. The house was just large enough to comfortably fit my young family of five, with the added bonus of a washer for laundry. We didn't realize there was a small village playground just down the main road down the hill! The kids would have loved that too! The nearest minimarts prices were predatory, but it's location was more convenient than the nearest grocery in town.
- Heather (10/5): Exceptional - The private cottage was beautiful. The kitchen had everything we needed to cook an Easter dinner for ourselves. Our hostess was very kind and even invited us to share some herbs and cabbage from her garden.
Every afternoon when we returned "home" after hiking in the cloud forest or going on a tour of a local coffee/sugar/cocoa farm our 15 & 21 year olds would flip in the 2 hammocks on the porch to relax and enjoy the beautiful sunsets. They'd often stay in their hammocks until it was dark-my son spent at least one night sleeping comfortably in a hammock!
We were offered a couple of home cooked breakfast options. We opted for the traditional Costa Rica meal of eggs, Gallo Pinto, caramelized plantains, and fresh fruit because we became quite found of the combination during our trip. We found all of the food in Costa Rica to be delicious and the freshness of these breakfasts made them extraordinary.
I was thrilled to have use of a washing machine and a long clothesline where things dried quickly. It was much easier than either washing by hand or going to a laundromat And the Internet connection was great! My son watched Yankees games from his hammock!
It was lovely to be outside of the crowds in the town and get to share a few days in paradise with our hosts. There was nothing we didn't like.!
The drive down the mountain between town and the cottage was steep and curvy and made me nervous the first time we drove it. After that I can to love the drive because it took us past half a dozen spots where people stop to watch the phenomenal sunsets which we might not have taken time to notice and enjoy otherwise. And the road didn't feel so hard after the first time because we knew it better.
I would have appreciated instructions about how to use the stove and washing machine. I understood that we needed to open the valve on the gas canister to fuel the stove. I initially missed that we had to plug in the stove to power up the lighting mechanism. The washing machine was a brilliant contraption which saves space and electricity and gets the laundry mostly dry so it can hang up and be totally dry quickly. While I understood the centrifuge part of the machine is like the swimsuit machine at the Y, I wasn't sure how to properly use the washer part. Luckily a YouTube video showed me the basics, and while it took a bit more work to drain, refill, and rinse than my machine at home, it was quick and nicer than the hand washing and wringing I'd done earlier on our trip. But a few simple instructions might be helpful for those of us who are in familiar with the stove and washing machine.
- Dennis (10/5): Exceptional - It's a very cozy place with an amazing view.
- Steve (1/5): Total disappointment. Did not exist in the location given on Booking.com. - I could not locate the hotel and am not sure it actually exists. I used the hotel location information on Booking.com to locate the community where the hotel was supposed to be located. There was no hotel in that community. With the help of a local person we located a facility by that name in a totally different community. It had a closed gate and was very run down. They had no-one who had any knowledge of a reservation and didn't seem to be open for business. We ended up staying at another hotel in a nearby town. I will dispute any charge on my card for this booking and Booking.com needs to do followup to ensure this hotel is actually in business.
- Francois (10/5): Exceptional - Great service, Friendly Host, tasty breakfast was homegrown. Beautiful spot. Many animals to see! Nothing
- Olga (10/5): Exceptional - The house is very cute, beautiful view. It was nice to be a bit removed from the town.
- James (9/5): Fibulas hosts and a place you would want to experience for a while. - The comfortable little cabina on a small family farm was a wonderful place. The shower lacked good hot water.
- Jeannie (10/5): Loved it! - Wonderful relaxing stay. Well equipped kitchen and washing machine was an added bonus. Road to property steep.
- Jamie (8/5): Wonderful stay on a rural Tico finca. - Our stay in this rustic little house in the country was a nice get away from the bustle of Monteverde. The owner, Ivannia, was wonderful. She paid special attention to our little guy, showing him the farm and animals and letting him help a bit. Beds were comfy. Her breakfast was delivered to our door - fresh home cooked gallo pinto, scrambled eggs, plátanos, pancakes and fruit. It’s not that I didn’t like something, but be warned, You need to use low gears and have good brakes coming down the hills to the house.
- Laima (9/5): Superb - Nice quiet place, very basic and simple, but has all you need.
