Guest Reviews
- Danielle (3/5): Wouldn’t stay here again, left early because of how uncomfortable the room is, it’s hot no fresh air, the price is absol - Location is only thing that is good about the property Everything, the person running it tries to get as much money as possible, he charges for parking even though if you didn’t park there you would have absolutely no where else to park. There is no street parking available. He charges for wifi . On top of his ridiculous price for the rooms. The rooms are so out dated, it’s hot in there, as there is a small fan that does nothing.
The shower is so small you’re basically showering on top of the toilet. Im unsure how anyone can charge $450 a night for the room we got. The photos look nothing like what you’re going to get.

- Steve (10/5): Exceptional -
- Joy (9/5): Superb -
- Suzanne (7/5): Good -
- Ezazi (2/5): doesn’t worth for $550 per night , it was the price of the 5 star hotel in manly , the view was from the only one small - Just location Very old accommodation, no amenities, even shampoo
I would like to claim refund from booking.com
- Lewis (10/5): Exceptional - A cosy character filled beach apartment. Listening to the sea crashing on the rocks below through an open window at night is magical.
- Matt (9/5): Amazing access to Shelly beach and Manly - The most amazing location
- Maria (6/5): Pleasant -
- Danielle (10/5): Relaxing fabulous location - Location. Simplicity of the property but everything you need and very comfortable.
- Davis (8/5): Place overall was a joy. Location 10/10, unit was cosy, bed very comfy and the unit was very clean - Location was amazing. So close to Shelly Beach, and a brisk walk to Manly beach and surrounding cafes and restaurants. Bed was very comfy Weather was fine, not to hot, but lack of air conditioning on a hot day may be an issue.
- Callum (8/5): Very good -
- Cathy (5/5): Passable -
- Anita (8/5): Very good -
- Ben (6/5): An enjoyable stay in great location but in an apartment that did not live up to expectatiomns - Wonderful location close to all the beach facilities and walking distance to everything. Parking is expensive but ample. The choice of apartment is critical in that some of the apartments have little outlook and are tiny with almost no airflow due to restricted window openings and no air conditioning. The website showed a confusing array of photos giving the appearance that most of the apartments have wonderful ocean views when in fact the only apartment that offers direct amazing ocean views is not available for rent at present and has not been for some years. This is misleading. Two other so called ocean view apartments give partial ocean views.
- Buckley (7/5): Good - Location Needs updating
- Nicolette (10/5): Perfect…. We’ll be back! - The position of this property is amazing…. View of the ocean and beautiful harbour pool.
Our host Stephen was fantastic and responded quickly to any questions we had.
Fantastic cafe next door that serve up the best coffee and breakfast!
Loved our stay
- Valentin (10/5): Exceptional -
- Ben (10/5): Unbelievable location in Manly! - Let’s start with location, wow. You couldn’t ask for a better spot in Manly and indeed quite a bit of the Sydney space. You’ve got excellent access to the beach, you’ve got almost no distance to cabbage tree bay which I strongly recommend you snorkel in each day and then a 1 minute walk to the sea pool. You can get to circular quay on the ferry (20 minute walk) very easily and a 10 minute walk to the shops on the corso. The management of the place are wonderful, really friendly, chatty and helpful (we had a broken cafetière replaced within minutes of mentioning it!). There is a decent cafe just outside the place too. Ok, look, these are NOT ‘dislikes’ they are hopefully balanced comments that are reflected in other reviews. You are paying a premium for the location which if you’re not worried about swimming or beautiful ocean views you might want to consider. The place was spotlessly clean and tidy but some modernisation would be good - we knew this going in. Maybe a shower cubicle to prevent our shower going everywhere!
- Tina (8/5): Location, location, location. - The primary attraction for this property is its location, and that could not be better. The best Manly had to offer in terms of beach and views and atmosphere is right on its doorstep. We had the ground floor room and that was okay, and a little dated, but fine. The room needs updating but is okay. Bathroom is small and gets very wet.
- Katrina (3/5): Poor -
- Mark (9/5): Superb -
- Yoosin (1/5): Would not recommend to anyone. - The location is convenient to access the beach but it gets noisy in the morning and in the evening. There are constructions going on around the property which makes it noisy (again) and dusty. The property was so neglected that I was surprised that it was being rented out on this platform. The rooms were so dusty and clearly have not been cleaned properly for a while. The glasses and cutlery were dirty, linen were dirty (with blood stains on the doona) and the place just does not feel very secure. The cot provided was dusty and broken and doesn’t fit in the room.
- Brianna (7/5): Good -
- Wayne (7/5): Good -
- Mons (10/5): A wonderful and homely holiday on the cusp of Many’s stunning rock pools. - This apartment could not be more central to lovely Manly and the wonderful owner has furnished the apartment with such a relaxing and comfortable aesthetic. A beautiful place owned by a lovely man. I highly recommend as pet friendly accommodation is so hard to find; especially a good one. This apartment is great and I could not be more grateful 💛. Organise parking before head and ‘less is more’ in regards to packing or invest in one of those amazing beach trolleys!
- Robert (7/5): Unfortunately the weather wasn't good on the 2 full days that we were there but we still enjoyed it. - Location is excellent. Facilities are run down. It's unusual for WiFi to be an extra and that is disappointing. It should be included as should be streaming services such as Netflix. To not have free streaming eg iView, SBS on Demand, amongst others is disappointing. To have to pay extra for these services seems penny pinching. All said, we would be likely to stay again but maybe with a bit of bargaining.
- Ruby (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jackie (8/5): Great wee unit in a fabulous location. - Fabulous location - right next to the beach, fab cafe opposite and very quiet in the evenings.
- Trish (8/5): Very good - Beautiful location, apartment nicely furnished. great breakfast place below. Good service support. :)
- Annie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nick (6/5): Amazing location - Having to give credit card details over the phone as a bond prior to arriving.
- Genevieve (7/5): All in all, it was great for what I wanted, and would consider staying again - The location was great, perfectly close to the water. Was good for 1 person. As a solo female traveler I was frustrated that having the barn door open for ventilation was not secure. It would be better if there was a flyscreen and lock on the screen door at least. I’m happy to have no a/c as there was a particularly excellent fan, but no airflow really limited my enjoyment of being in the property. I was also annoyed at there being no bin in the bathroom, only the kitchen.
- Gabriele (6/5): Pleasant - Great location, easy to walk everywhere but unfortunately no cooking facility and for a longer stay it is quite tiny.
- Jo (9/5): Loved it! - The location is absolutely gorgeous, the accommodation was great, the bed was fabulous.
The owner was very welcoming and great with communication. There was nothing I didn’t like
- Andrea (8/5): Highly recommend - Location was amazing . Out the door and we were snorkelling
- Andrew (6/5): Loved the location end of story - Location Like going on holidays in the 1960s. Under serviced, needs updating.
- Kobie (10/5): An absulute stunning spot with a very helpful laid back host. Thank you Stephen! - Stephen was an excellent host.
The location is absolutely brilliant! Walking distance to Manly Wharf for ferry ride to central Sydney, or to fabulous Shelly or much liked Manly Beach! Remember this is NOT a modern high rise glitsy facility, but a laid back prime spot with a tidal pool and rustic restaurant on your doorstep!
My partner and I just loved it! We only missed a frying pan...but worked well and truly arround it!
- Darren (10/5): Exceptional - Amazing locationt ocean views the ocean at your doorstep walking distance to either Shelley beach or manly Beach or the corso no need for the car .closets all restaurants cafes shops the host very accommodating early check-in .. definitely book again thankkyou..
- Frances (4/5): Manly and the location was great. It’s very misleading what apartment you are actually booking The ground floor apar - Location. Details unclear thought we had apartment with view had a smelly rabbit Warren. No view. I. Ground floor with minimum air flow
- Parisa (1/5): Really disappointed. Not value for money at all. - Good location Stayed in the studio downstairs. Extremely rundown. Not maintained. All fittings in bathroom rusty and old. Toilet seat not in its fittings. No security catch if wanting window open at night. Window frames rotten. 3inch gap at bottom of front door letting in insects, smells etc. Paintwork peeling off wall. Really depressing place. Some photos attached. Definitely not worth the money. Cut my stay short as did not want to stay there longer.
- Marline (1/5): Rip off unsafe and disappointing stay. - It was near the beach and the function i was attending, however I did not get the ocean view I booked. Everything. False advertising, nothing deluxe about dingy old room that was stuffy, uncomfortable, noisy and importantly unsafe. Security at door was reinforced with chair so at least I could hear someone. No ocean view or tea coffee facilities. Incredibly expensive for old dingy room on laneway that is used in the early hours for scuba equipment and group off load.People looking in window, so needed curtains drawn. Window barely opened and only a desk fan for cooling. All photos on advert are the apartments which have been renovated not this room. Room not studio. Owner offered nothing. When I said it was stuffy he said open a window. If you offer ocean views, tea and coffee provide it. How about customer support and service? If have opportunity stay somewhere else, somewhere cheaper and someone that provides the things advertised and a quiet safe room or real studio. Sorry. I have been with booking.com since the beginning and this is the 1st bad experience. Maybe I have been lucky, not this time.
- Karan (8/5): Great location - Closeness to Rock Pool and Manly Beach
Nice cafe / dinner right outside No aircon. Just small fan.
- Sarah (6/5): It was okay - The location Property was dated, microwave did not work, lacking a smoke detector, beach towels were not provided
- Callum (9/5): Superb -
- Vikki (8/5): Very good -
- Lesla (9/5): Very enjoyable - Location and quaintness
- Serrin (8/5): Very good -
- Keith (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): Perfect base for visiting family in the area. - Amazing location feet from the Manly to Cabbage Tree Bay Walk. Cafe on the doorstep! 5 min walk to Manly restaurants etc. Better cutlery and crockery
- Sue (10/5): Best place we've stayed in - Location location location plus the ultimate beach shack
Light airy and amazing views
Steve the owner was fab to deal with and we will be booking again later in the year.
Thoroughly recommend if you love the sea and don't want to work to hard to be in it 🤿🏊♀️🤿🏊♀️ Nothing it was excellent
- Carola (9/5): We had a lovely stay! - On the waterfront, near Fairy Bower pool, convenient to walk to both Shelly Beach and Manly People with impaired mobility, small children etc might find access to top units difficult.
- Peter (9/5): very comfortable but basic accommodation. Reminiscent of old style traditional Greek island rooms. - location.location.location!! that is the key quality of this apartment. Sea view, close to two beaches and with a good beach style cafe next door what can go wrong? The info. needs to be updated. In particular, make it clear that there is no free wifi at the cafe next door. There is a charge for wifi in the apartment. Who else still does that?
- Meyer (4/5): All in all for the money spent I wish I'd chosen somewhere else in the area. - the locaction I was underwhelmed with the quality and comfort of the beds. the mattress in the main bed was very uncomfortable. the fold out couch was not a fold out couch and not comforable to sleep on. the kitchen was extremely basic and shelf isn't straight. The listing states parking but it's not until afterwards that you've made your non refundable booking that you learn it's 50 dollars a day and it was not easy to access. Also their is no bedding for the fold out bed without another cash charge.
- Margaret (10/5): Fantastic location with character- unbeatable views, - We really enjoyed staying at Marine Parade. The location is fantastic, loved the view of the ocean and Shelly Beach and the cute little pool. You can easily walk to restaurants, the wharf, buses, Shelly Beach, and North Head hiking. Great snorkelling.
The building looks simple from outside, but inside, it is very clean and cosy, and the bed was great. The shower is good too.
The cafe next door is very good, not open very early or in the evening, but most of the day.
Stephen was helpful and nice. Thanks very much! I would love to return. I would have liked to know in advance that I had to pay for internet. The internet worked well though.
We did do an awful lot of walking here. I would recommend getting a car if you have trouble walking.
There is no sign on the outside of the building- just know it is opposite the Bower cafe, above the kombucha shop.
- Markhz (10/5): Very easy , hassle free stay - Easy access to the beach, cafe, and power point for Tesla charging.
- David (7/5): Probably the best location in Sydney for a holiday stay. -
- Brian (8/5): Very good - Position was fantastic: right on seafront walkway. Easy 10min stroll to Manly centre..Very clean and bright inside. Owners kindly agreed to give us earlier access on day of arrival aspartner unwell. Window frames old and draughty; security lights on stairs up to apartment needs adjustment as you are over half way up before they come on. Stairs also difficult to climb with heavy luggage.Room has different floor levels so possible trip hazard.
- Peter (4/5): Disappointing - Location. Bed comfy. Easy check in. Very run down old unloved property. Charging for location and parking $100 for 2 nights on top of cost.
Amenities need to be updated and would expect better standers for the cost. Mouldy bathroom and floor flooded after each shower.
No space at one side of the bed. Sorry not for us and personally wouldn't recommend.
- Tracey (10/5): Super cozy and perfect location. - Super cozy and close to Shelley beach. Nice view of the ocean and beach.
- Peter (8/5): Very enjoyable, a nice place to get away from it all, without being too far away from it all. - Room was nice, not overly luxurious, but clean and serviceable. The view was OK, it looked out onto a side street and a cafe opposite, but you could also easily see the sea, the days were a bit 'busy' outside, but not too obtrusive, at night it was lovely and quiet and all you could hear were the waves, and occasional chatter of people walking past. There was no wi-fi when I arrived which I needed for working and keeping in touch with my family back in England, but Stephen kindly put an i phone in the room to use a hotspot, this was very helpful and much appreciated. The appartment was just far enough away from town to be away from it all, but a 10 minute stroll when I wanted to go in to eat or go to the beach. I was put off by the fish and chip shop underneath, and cafe opposite, but there didn't disturb me at all, and both closed quite early in the evening, around 5pm so were no bother at all overnight. There were problems with the wi-fi when I arrived, but Stephen sorted this out as mentioned above.
- Curious (8/5): Very good - The best location, right on the Pacific Ocean and about half way between Manly and Shelley beaches. Superb. Neat, but fairly basic accommodation.
- Mariah (10/5): Exceptional -
- Anji (8/5): Very good -
- John (6/5): Not what we expected based on the photos. Property was for sale as a reno/ knockdown which says it all - Location was great Old,shower was awful mould on blinds. Run down. Noisey basically no view unlike the photos low ventilation no fan or AC. No milk provided and no shop anywhere near,
Tripping hazards
- Kay (9/5): We had a great weekend away and this place was lovely - Quirky. Fabulous location. Bed comfortable and the local parking option a huge bonus. Low water pressure in the shower. Could do with a freshen up however not a deal breaker.
- Nicki (8/5): All in all our stay was good due to the location and the weather of course close to beach - Location was the best beach outside the door quiet in the evenings close to manly shops and wharf Bathroom could do with an update
- John (10/5): Classic old style beach house accommodation with the ocean right at your door step. -
- Brett (10/5): Exceptional -
- Merv (4/5): Disappointing - The location was perfect. The bed was comfortable. Very good communication with Stephen. Firstly, there was a significant gap around the entry door that was letting the cold air into the room. There was a door snake provided but it was not long enough to cover the width of the door. The lock on the entry door was inferior and probably will not meet the Australian Lock Standard. A barrel bolt fitted inside the door will provide more security when asleep in the room.
The bathroom is not up to a comfortables standard, very small. The shower curtain provided did not keep the water within and the bathroom floor was drenched and there was no mop or squeegee to dry up the floor. Another person wanting to use the facilities straight away posed a problem.
- Deborah (3/5): Poor quality accommodation at top market price - Good location, beds and hot shower. Good oil heater. The uneven flooring and levels (see photos) in places within the apartment that caused me to trip several times. There was Once I actually fell, hit my head on the front door and smashed onto my left hip (which has a hip replacement). This caused me to miss seeing a relative (purpose of the trip) to stay in bed to nursing a golf ball size wound on my head and left hip joint pain. There were no warning signs or ramps from the entry to the kitchen or from the kitchen to the bed area. Also The owner, outside the Booking.com contract, messaged me to say that I needed to sign for a covering $500 deposit or I wouldn’t get the address or key lock box code. Having to pay $50 a day for parking. The unclean state of the room was awful– dusty, dead bugs in the light fitting and window sill, poor natural light, dirt on the stove, rusty stove elements and shower curtain railing.
- Delphine (2/5): Shabby Chic - Not much The stairs up and down and no stovetop or bbq facilities . The view I had was from a little window at the side of the building. So far to walk anywhere for me with my sore hips. When I wanted W i Fi (AT $10 per day!) it wasn't connecting. For the price it was very disappointing.
- Thanjon (10/5): Excellent location, friendly host, well-equipped apartment - Excellent location and easy arrival and check-in; friendly host; charming building and great proximity to ocean, beach, and short walk to Manly High price point reflects the location, which is understandable
- Wolfgang (5/5): Sea, restaurant across the road and many friendly people surprised we were living in a dilapidated b - Self catering! The Alarm Syatem went off at 2am and we were blamed for it!!!!!!!!!!!
- Cindy (10/5): amazing location - the fairy bower reef is at your doorstep - amazing location
- Michelle (5/5): perfect location, clean room but very tired, poorly renovated, no personal touch at all. some old coffee and tea mags, n - location great serviced apartment with no services
one tiny piece of soap, no other bathroom extras and 2 towels for 4 nights
on asking for clean towels $20 laundry fee
Steve did waiver this fee !!
- John (9/5): Superb - The location. It is perfect. The facilities were a bit dated, particularly the shower
- Kate (7/5): Good - Perfect location A few axtra towels, toilet rolls and shampoo and soap would have been appreciated
- Peter (10/5): Book it! - Location is second to none. Cafe and snorkeling literally 20 steps away. Steve the host was friendly and accommodating. Rather than 5 star Accom it's charming and rustic like your quintessential beach shack. Handy kitchen with fridge and stove etc. A little noise from a function over the road on a Saturday night but it didn't go too late and wasn't loud enough to keep us awake. Will book it again. Highly recommend it. All good!
- Jaymee (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent location
Comfy beds
- Samuel (10/5): Great waterfront location, good value for money, feels like you are stepping in to Greece. - Great location, awesome European feel. Clean and spacious rooms, property manager very friendly and accommodating. nothing
- Anthony (10/5): Exceptional - Stephen and Matthew were super helpful sorting parking for us at last minute, very friendly and accommodating, recommend and would stay again location is perfect and quaint views to the sea and pool along marine parade 💯👌
- Venessa (10/5): older style building but perfectly positioned to everything manly has to offer. loved snorkelling out the front - the position
- Eleanor (10/5): Exceptional - it was clean, and the location was incredible no complaints
- Sabine (10/5): Exceptional - The awesome rustic chic made us grin 360: that's how a European would picture one of these famous beach houses on the beaches of Oz.
Matthew had been the most accommodating and friendly host we can think of.. Renting the SUP on short notice, for example, went painless, as everything else.!
The accommodation was simple, yet clean, comfortable and sweet as!
If you'd expected an upscale dwelling, all posh, rectangular and beige, you came to the wrong place. Cheers! You ask me! I can't think of anything.
- David (7/5): Location excellent - Location was excellent Probably needs some updated furniture
- Colleen (10/5): all good - location uneven floor
- Nicholas (8/5): Very good - Great location, friendly staff Noisy with garbage trucks early on a couple of very early mornings
- Julie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Robert (9/5): Perfect location for a short stay in Sydney. - The location was fabulous which was why I booked it. Next door to a great cafe, a very short walk to Shelly beach and a nice stroll to the pier to the ferry to the city. It's the perfect place for a short stay in Sydney. The buzz on the beach around the surf life saving club was fantastic.
I also liked the quality of the bed linen and towels - first class comfort there. I also liked that there was an iron and board. Important after a long flight with lots of wrinkled clothes in the suitcase. The only thing that concerned me was security. The door to the room, which is open to the street on the first landing of the rear external stair, was very loose and didn't feel secure at all when the door was locked. I felt it would be very easy to push in. This worried me as I had my laptop and other valuables with me. Please consider upgrading room doors and locks.
- Nathan (1/5): Bad -
- Agnes (9/5): Enjoyed the quaint rustic foreshore accommodation. - Close proximity to beach, shops, cafes
Breezy with windows open
Sleep to the sound of the crashing waves
The linen n towels were clean n bed was comfy We need the light from our phone for the first flight of stairs but nearly to the top, the sensor light came on.
- Debbie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Nikki (10/5): Two days I will never forget - The accommodation itself is a neat, clean studio apartment, however the location is sheer magic. Unless you had a house on stilts built on the rocks you could not be any closer to the water - it is incredible! A 6 min walk one way to the main Manly area and surf beach and 3 min walk the other way to Shelley Beach and the marine reserve - what an absolute paradise.
- Moore (1/5): So disappointing and expensive. - The only thing this accommodation has going for it is the location. It is extremely overpriced for the state of the rooms, it was the same price to stay at Manly Pacific. The place smelt of mould and everything (rugs/cushions/bedding/towels) were all damp. There was no aircon, only a small fan in the lounge area, and only one tiny window in the bedroom, so no air flow through the room, so you can't even hide the smell. The curtain in the bedroom was covered in mould, we ended up leaving after one night as couldn't sleep there again.
- Nicola (8/5): Very good -
- Steven (4/5): not again - location damp, old, badly configured
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- David (10/5): We had a fantastic weekend staying at Marine Beach House and highly recommend it. - Superb location right on the Esplanade with close walking access to Shelly Beach and some lovely cafes. Slightly longer walk to Manly corso if you want access to more restaurants and night life. Very quiet location at night.
