Guest Reviews
- Mitja (6/5): Picturesque but not great for business travel - The accomodation is very picturesque. Particularly the spiral staircase which you climb to get to the room is very cool (although also a little difficult to climb).
There is a fine communal kitchen available.
The price is as reasonable as one may expect, and the location suited me well. No desk in the room, which is an issue if you need to work.
It took a long time and much prodding to get a receipt, which I needed because I was travelling on business.
I did not get the code to enter the room until I reminded them when I landed in Brussels. I may have contributed to this by forgetting to send the scan of my passport, though.
- Jacques (7/5): Bon emplacement.
- Parr (7/5): Comfortable - Very quiet setting, even though it was in a highly populated area Bathroom and shower area needs to be cleaner
- Constantin (7/5): Eerie experience - Clean, private
100% different experience
In the end ok. Very old building making noises all night
The narrowest stair i have ever seen.
Spooky setup, felt like staying in a jeepers creepers house.

- Samuel (10/5): Perfect - Perfect hosts and great room It was great

- Antonia (5/5): Friendly staff, but the room needs improvement - Very polite staff with fast responses to any request. The heating worked well, which was a big plus. The hotel was not very close to the city center. The room had good potential in terms of design, but it felt a bit dirty, especially the floor. The lighting in the room was very low and dark, to the point of being uncomfortable. The sink was also leaking.
- Patrycja (8/5): Bardzo udany pobyt, przez lokalizację i wystrój to miejsce naprawdę jest atrakcyjne - Obiekt dobrze skomunikowany i najważniejsze cudowny wystrój, antyki i wszystkie detale powodują, że sam nocleg tam był atrakcją. Można poprawić czystość zmywarki
- RebeccaLStewart (6/5): Good location but needs some work - Location is great to the train station and other Brussels points of interest. Spirella is a quaint accomodation which is between a hostel and a hotel as you share a common area but you have your own room and bathroom. It looks like it could be cleaned a bit better. The bathroom had large marks on the wall and there's certainly some work that needs completing on the rooms. The doors shake whenever something large goes past which is noisy as that happens most of the night. Although it was gothic themed it was very dark even with all the lights on. Walls are thin which means you can hear a lot going on around your room.
- Marcel (10/5): -
- Ana (10/5): -
- Antonella (9/5): -
- Klimova (5/5): - - Location is fine, the train station is pretty close (10 min walk)
- Bed is very comfortable
- It’s quite warm in the room
- Toiletries are great No slippers
Just a half of a toilet paper roll was provided for several days
Rules about food on the rooms
Staircase is extremely uncomfortable and dangerous, no way to climb there with a suitcase
The room wasn’t ready for check-in at 15:00
No handle in the toilet
Shower is in the room, separated with a curtain
No wet cleaning, it’s dusty in the rooms
Cold water in the washbasin
All sounds made by other guests feel as if all guests live in a shared room (from toilet flushing to conversations)
- Chapatte (5/5): Location is great. Beds and rooms are fine. Hated the stairs. - None The stair case. Made for gnomes and/or young luggage free travellers. No lift available should be on the ads. For an old person this was a pain in the neck.
- Benjamin (9/5): -

- SERHAN (8/5): - Very good location and safe place.
The bed was so comfortable. The complimentary coffee and tea were a very kind gesture. I will definitely come back again.
- Christina (10/5): - Very authentic Brussels feel.

- Patrick (9/5): Confortable and relaxing experience - The property was absolutely beautiful, full of charm and character. Staying there for four days felt like stepping back into a European classical era: elegant, timeless, and very chic! Definitely a place to return to.
- Marcia (8/5): Cool lodging in Brussels! - Loved the decor and reasonable cost. The electric water heater didn’t work and coffee cups weren’t safe for heating in microwave.
- Jocelyn (8/5): Beautiful decor! - The decor is excellent and the location perfect for my needs I got accidentally put in the wrong room for a night and had to change rooms the next day. Unfortunately I had a migraine while I had to move all of my things so it was not good timing.
- Theodoros (8/5): Good value for money - Seems renovated, old-school type of property.
stairs a bit narrow but its ok. Polite owner The smell is a bit intense due to the wood, a bit noisy when walking.
- Nicolebell8278 (10/5): Exceptional - Very large
bedroom and bathroom
- Konstantinos (10/5): Exceptional -
- Viktoriia (10/5): I’ll definitely come back here again. - Luxury apartment in the very heart of Brussels. The interior is tastefully designed, with everything brand new after a recent renovation.
If you’re looking for stunning Instagram photos — this is the place.
On the ground floor, there’s a fully equipped kitchen with a coffee machine, fridge, toaster, stove, and all necessary utensils.
There are two 24-hour convenience stores nearby. Cafés are just a 3-minute walk away, as well as the main attractions and the famous flea market.
- Lara (8/5): Very good -
- Raulsantosdelacamara (4/5): Disappointing - This is an apartment bulding located closely to Porte de Hal. The street is good and there are bars and some shops nearby. My room was very big. The bathroom is also very spacious. The check-in process is easy enough.
The WiFi is easy to access and very fast. There were some complimentary chocolates on the day of my arrival which was really appreciated. There are bathrobes offered for free which is cozy. The apartment has some common areas and four individual rooms. In my floor were two rooms and an apparently shared bathroom. I never saw anybody else because the remaining room in the floor seemed to be vacant. The access to the upper floors is done through a very narrow spiral staircase (the Spirella...) which is publicized in the room listing. Before arriving (but after paying...) you're warned of this and gently reminded that this is no cause for a refund.
What is not mentioned in the listing or the email before arrival is that the spiral staircase is dead dark. It was always difficult to navigate, even though I'm a rather nimble person. I wouldn't recommend this to any person with noticeable overweight or even the slightest impairment in vision. Seriously, this needs to be better illuminated. It's also so narrow that coming up with any luggage (even a medium backpack) might be challenging, don't bring heavy or large suitcases because maybe they won't easily fit.
The room was large and the bed was comfortable, but the decoration of the room is quite puzzling. Even though there is space to spare, there's not even a small desk and since I was travelling for work and needed to get things done, my only option was the bed or a small armchair. Not very practical. The room also didn't have any clothes-sized cupboard with a rack to hang shirts, etc. Also, the room was painted (walls and ceiling) in very dark brown. This led to a quite dark, dark ambience most of the day since there's not loads of sunlight coming in.
The faucet in the top floor bathroom was not in the best shape, as it was partially obstructed by water. There were no individual glasses offered in the room (maybe downstairs in the kitchen, but you won't go down and up the staircase for that...).
All in all, could have been much better with more attention to detail.
- Iulia (8/5): Very good - Lovely vintage house, very nice for a short city break if the temperature is ok.
It was easy to find, walk distance from most attractions, groceries very close, beer pub closer if you want to taste Belgium.
Nice host, very helpful. I liked the stairs. 1. If the weather is hot it becomes uncomfortable because there is no air conditioning, only a fan.
2. The balcony door
3. Not good for ladies. We want to look nice when we go outsife, it is impossible because of the poor light. Yes, it's nice and gives the vintage perfume, but please put one light above one mirror.
- Ewa (6/5): Pleasant -
- Julie (9/5): Great value and a refreshingly different type of accomodation. - Loved the period decor and unusual fit-out. Bed was very comfortable, shower was good, room was spacious. Close to the intercity train station (Brussels Midi) plus metro and bus very close. Lots of bars and restaurants close by. Area full of students and migrants gave a nice vibe and energy. Very good value for the price. Others have complained about the stairs. That’s unfair because the photos on booking.com are accurate. To be clear - the ground floor is the entry, kitchen and sitting room only, so if you book here you will have to go up stairs. Up one level for rooms 1 and 2, up another level for room 3, and as the levels have cathedral height ceilings, it’s a bit of a climb. The staircase is a tight spiral wrought iron one. Not suitable for large bags or for those with balance/mobility problems. Otherwise it just means exercising some caution coming up and down. Our only criticism is that they could be better lit.
- Adrian (9/5): Unique and thrilling experience I will remember. - It's just a great project with furnishings all sourced from the local flea markets. If you just want comfort and not unique atmosphere and history, book a standard hotel - it's not for you. I absolutely loved it. La Marolled is ace, full stop. Only turn the front door key to the right or you'll be buggering around for ages:) Sort it Hugo, and good luck moving it forwards!
- Mohammed (7/5): Good -
- Jordi (9/5): An unique unexpected experience! (when you get into the place you will know what I mean) - A very special option. It is like travelling in time and space. Elegant, classy, unique. What a pleasant surprise!! Nothing, really. Maybe one thing could have been better; meeting Hugo and say hi to him and congratulate him for the Alelier!
- Marek (8/5): Nice host, close to public transport, place not for disabled - narrow stairs to rooms -
- Yaroslav (10/5): Exceptional - Very good place in antique style, very clean very helpful staff
- Farwa (1/5): A big Disappointment - Self check in en check out was simple and easy. As soon as we stepped in we felt a complete disappointment. There was no mention of a shared kitchen in the description. The stairs were impossible to climb and we face too much difficulty with our baggage and childerens. Family rooms were also joke. Rooms are on 2nd floor. And a shared kitchen on the ground floor. Too much problem in simply warming the milk bottle or the baby food.Rooms are not as shown in the pictures. In room 3 the back of the bed was empty. When we sleep our heads collide directly to the wall. In room 4 the lamps were broken, stains on the chairs. Very old house even it was impossible to walk without making a cracking noise. The heating system was making terrible sound, not to mention the ambulances because there is a hospital nearby. A big no and worst experience ever!!
- Oxana (10/5): Exceptional - Good location, comfortable bed, heated room, friendly hosts. We arrived in the morning and were checked in earlier at our request. The toilet is not secured, it wobbles
- Kintsurashvili (10/5): Exceptional - Very good location. A very attentive host who was always ready to help when needed.
- Eva (6/5): Basic - Once inside the room I felt safe. the room was lovely, bed basic comfort and toilette was good. Location 25mts from the centre. We didn't like the building, entrance, stairs to go up in that self entrance building to dark outside,. It was hard to find the building name on the door tiny. Separate of by that issues, it was OK the second and third day.
- Hilal (1/5): DISASTER - NOTHING! WITH ONE WORD HORRIBLE İn order to injure yourself because of narrow and sharp stairs (your Wright should be below 50 kg ) and not suggested for old people
-other guests were so loudy
-i booked with balcony there was no balcony ,they re thinking open wrecked under constraction area called balcony.
-around apt soo dangerous even street full of drug dealers
-Apt is really scary ,u can dance with the djins
-no water,no coffee
- Host is uncommunicative
briefly
HORRIBLE.BETTER TO SLEEP STREET
- Miikka (6/5): Pleasant - Location was good and there was kitchen and washing massine to use. Beds was terrible and rooms were different floors. No were didn’t say that room are different floors. Upper room stairs were so scary. Lots of things was not working probely
- Anna (5/5): Passable - Room was clean. The stairs were not appropriate for family and the dog and broken parts of this stairs are not safe. We booked a room for 2 adults and one child and dog. we had room on the second floor where the only access was thru that dangerous stairs.
- Bibiontheroad (4/5): Disappointing - The vintage furnitures and decorations is well thought out
The materas was good No staff, rooms are cold, no extra blanket on in the room and you hear all sounds from other rooms ( voices, steps, toilet, showers) everything
- Davide (9/5): Great stay! We will be back for sure! - - Great location
- Stylish room
- Well insulated, quite and warm
- communication was just perfect
- we could leave our luggage - the stairs are little and could be dangerous
- Sasha (7/5): Good -
- Ujjwal_jayswal (9/5): Superb - Location is a plus point. Its 10 mins walk to the Brussel Midi train station and the Grand Palace is 25 mins walk. Also, the metro station, the bus station is really near by ~ 5 mins walk. There are supermarkets and restaurants within the radius of 500 meters.
Bonus - The host allowed us to keep the luggage in the apartment pre-check in and post check out.
- Kalyan (9/5): Super Awesome Host to help you up for local information and your stay - The Host is super awesome if you get a chance to meet him , he definitely help in all sense of information and any help you need during the stay I guess the Staircase which the Host is modifying this summer and it will be fine as well after that .
- Vania (5/5): Not a nice experience at all, even for those who travel on a budget, properties like these should be at the very least c - Location is convenient It is a very humid property on the ground floor, you can smell and feel it just by crossing the door. On the attic and second floor, it is super hot, when there’s hot weather. No front desk service and never saw the owner, communication was satisfactory, though.
Cleanness was lacking in the bathroom, stained towels and there was dust in all the furniture. Súper thin floor, lacking sound isolation, even walking could bother your downstairs neighbor.
The bedframe in the attic has a blue fabric part that’s also stained.
- Patrycja (8/5): Nice place in good location - Nicely furnished, good location Toilet was not attached to the floor and a bit undone;
Stars that lead to the room are very difficult to climb with baggage, so you need to keep that in mind if you are carring large suitcases
- Xhulieta (9/5): Superb -
- Lee (7/5): Good -
- Aleksandra (7/5): Good - Thanks to owners involvement we were able to check in few hour eliear. The room was clean and the bed was very comfortable. Very good WiFi. Room close to train station. Uninteresting Neighborhood (lots of homeless people). Bathroom needs renovation (toilet was moving).
- Filippa (4/5): Not the best - The room was nice decorated and the staff was very nice! First of all we felt very unsafe in the neighborhood and we were warned by staff to not walk around at night. The toilet was loose so it was a bit scary every time you sat down. The room was quite chilly all the time and not sound proof so you could hear all the renovations. The only way to go up to the rooms was through a small spiral staircase so you can’t really get up any big bags.
- Laura (10/5): Exceptional -
- Aastha (8/5): Beautiful and quaint - Beautiful rooms and very vintage feel :) There is no lift and the staircase is a very narrow spiral staircase - suitcases are impossible to bring up - we left them down in the kitchen . This is something that should be mentioned clearly in property description
- Renée (8/5): Very good -
- Rebecca (7/5): Lovely owners and lovely room just need’s finishing - Was very clean and all been recently decorated The decorating hadn’t been finished in the toilet … the toilet wasn’t fixed to the floor
- Jack (8/5): Very good - Clean rooms and a very friendly host. Accommodation was in a great location with shops, bars, restaurants and transport all really close by.
- Annik (8/5): Very good -
- John (9/5): Comfortable and a nice room - Hugo was very accommodating and a friendly host - thank you for having us!
- Kamile (10/5): Really enjoyed it! - The room was newly redone, very clean and comfortable. Good location and the loveliest owner! Had an awesome time there!
- Ginko (8/5): Good location in the nice neighborhood of Marolle. The manager Hugo is very nice and helpful. -
- Meysam (6/5): Pleasant - The stairs were really unpleasant and difficult to go upstairs. It was well equipped.
- Nurita (8/5): Nice hotel - Thé hôtel is very homey ambient, the owner is very kind and the services are fantastic !!! It seems that it’s an old building so the toilet is old and the room a bit cold
- Andrea (4/5): Disappointing - Bed uncomfortable.
Noise.
- Anna (5/5): Cute, but unpractical room - cleanliness could be improved - * Location: Very cute house in a lovely neighbourhood (however, do not go through the part at night)
* Decor: Amazing architectur, lovely decorations * Check-in: It was not clear to me that I would only get the code, AFTER sending my passport image (that information was mixed up with lots of other comparably non-important information)
* Accessibility: The stairs are very small, and not feasible for large suitcases / unsporty people
* Unpractical: The room had lovely furniture and decoration - but not practical at all: no coathanger, no place to put the suitcase etc.
* Cleanliness: For flat/room 3, the bathroom is outside the room - it was unclear if it was shared or not as a used towel was on the floor / footpring in the shower stall / towel stack was large, but some were folded so sloppy that it was not clear of clean (or not - in total: this was the biggest minus point for me - but can be hopefully fixed easily
- Anastasiia (1/5): Mold, too much photoshopped or very old room photos, scam. - It’s a good located accommodation. And looks goon on the photos on this site. It is a lie that you will get a 35-square-meter apartment with everything you need to make tea/coffee. The kitchen and dining area unexpectedly turned out to be shared, which was not indicated. Probably the owners did take into account their area when specifying the size. By the way, on the first evening, the dining area was occupied by the owners and their friends from the time we checked in until late in the evening. It is strictly forbidden to eat in the rented room and threatened with fines. But no one would want to eat with the smell of mold that had to be ventilated for hours every day (not summer). The dirty shower was veiled by the lack of light in the bathroom. The owner warned us about the visit of a handyman, and in a year's time... about prevention against mice. So, during our stay, the owner decided that it would be appropriate to do so.
As for the photos, unfortunately, only these, because we still focused on walking, but upon arrival home, the smell of mold on our things reminded us of this unforgettable experience of staying in the Queen Room. I hope that's not why I have a cough.
- Anabela (2/5): Will never return - I was not impressed with this property. Very poor quality The room was cold as the heating was off. After switching it in it took the whole night to heat, so I had to sleep with my coat as there were no extra blankets. The smell in the room was disgusting. The purple covers on the bed had stains and the undersheet cover where full of hair, needing a good vacuum before putting on new sheets. Broken bedside table. The images definitely are not corresponding with the property. I cannot recommend
- David (5/5): Quite nice overall if you plan to wake up early and don't bother being awakened at 8am - location is amazing
very easy check in and out
room set up is a bit old fashion but i did like it But and it s a massive but, i went to Bruxelles with friends for a week end of parties so i really wanted a quiet place. But no way you can have a nice lie-in there. Every single morning, from 8,30 to 10 am, you have kids shouting, going up and down, making so much noise that you will wake up! It s sad really because i liked the place. But they have no respect for the guests who want to stay late in bed. The rest of the day was quiet though
- Izoomina (10/5): Exceptional - Good location near the center. A lot of cafe and bars near. Nice room Low water pressure. If one person takes a shower and another person wants to wash their hands, then the water in the shower disappears :(
- Sabina (8/5): A bit of history - What do you do expect for a 300 year old building? We had all that we needed our room was tastefully decorated and the convenience of being able to make a meal in the kitchen was good. Loved the quirky stairway. My husband is 70 years old and he managed to carry our luggage upstairs. It was difficult but we managed and the website does say that it is narrow so we were prepared. Close to everything we never used public transport we were able to walk during our 3 day stay. The kitchen needs updating and the wiring, but this didn’t effect our stay.
- Jenae (7/5): Good -
- Syazwani (7/5): the room was great, but it’s not advisable to bring big luggage - The room is exactly shown in the picture the spiral stairs
- Paulo (2/5): Very poor - It's almost impossible to go up the stairs with luggage, it was really really dangerous... This is not recommended for people with any disabilities or kids.
