Guest Reviews
- Kathleen (10/5): A wonderfully peaceful escape - A beautiful place that is so welcoming and peaceful. The cabins are well stocked with staples and facilities. There is everything you could want - a games room, a garden with fresh veggies, amazing sunrises, a walk through the forest with fun extras to discover, a very comfortable bed and an induction portable cooktop which I haven't tried before and it was excellent. Very fast. Access to the property is via unsealed gravel, so consider your car choice.
- Jue-Jia (10/5): A place that enrich our unique experience travelling in Tasmania.... - The location offers very easy access to Southwest Nat'l Park and Field Mt. Nat'l Park. We stayed here for 4 nights and love all the beautiful hikes in and around, including the creek and forest track near the cottage. The freshly picked fruits and vegetables from the organic garden are so delicious and fun. Grant, the host, is so helpful and resourceful in providing timely feedback to our requests. My family love this quiet and homy place with very good view. Highly recommend for nature lovers travelling with families:) Even the ever changing weather is lovely to stay in the cozy and comfortable cottage!
- Rohana (10/5): -
- O'Neill (9/5): Delightful again. - This was our second visit here.Very welcoming in a beautiful part of Tasmania with the delightful rainforest walk on the property.Grant gave excellent communication and greeted and farewelled us too.Loved the views and proximity to Mt.Field National Park which is a wonderfully diverse area to spend a day or more.A very special surprise this time was the presence of large numbers of yellow tailed black cockatoos, very active at dusk. Our little cabin was very comfortable and charming.Love the wood fire for cosy evenings. We would certainly return again. It's a very special place. Come prepared with snacks and/or meals. This is mentioned in the information provided beforehand. Our evening meal option wasn't available this visit due to a long weekend.
- Grace (9/5): Pearl cottage, cute, cosy & comfy, close to Mt Field. Great hosts, we very much enjoyed our stay. - lovely spot, we stayed in "Pearl Cottage" which is like a tiny home with a wood fireplace, very cosy & comfy. Close to the parks etc. that we wanted to visit, lovely hosts - great communication.
- Bronwyn (10/5): - The view
Vegi patch
The cottage
The ownrrs Nothing really
- Markus (8/5): Wonderfully located, with a very rustic charm - The property is wonderfully quiet and perfectly located for exploring Mount Field. The beds were very comfortable. We especially loved the little private rainforest walk and the veggie garden with chickens and fresh eggs — real highlights for us. For us personally, the Hop Pickers Hut felt a bit too rustic. In our opinion, the bathtub/shower could use an update. The bedroom is more of a combined living–sleeping area, and unfortunately the windows didn’t have mosquito screens, so we kept them closed. Although the beds were good, we both didn’t sleep well.
- Jennifer (9/5): Unique experience with beautiful views and people. - Beautiful unique setting and very comfortable tiny house. A better stove would be great.
- Tomasz (10/5): - Great place to relax !
- LovinOZ (10/5): Paradise. - Grant, the owner was friendly and helpful. Rustic Hop Pickers cabin was clean, comfortable and well equipped. Quiet and peaceful. The view was exceptional. The chooks and their fresh eggs, fresh veggies from the garden. The bush walking track near the creek and in the rainforest. BBQ hut, games room and other activities.
- Vivien (9/5): Super comfortable cottage in a fantastic location for anyone who enjoys wildlife and nature - Very comfortable cottage. Loved the environment that the cottage is sited within, with platypus in the surrounding dams and lovely walks through the surrounding forests and farmland. Nothing. All good.
- Lisa (8/5): Relaxed and peaceful stay - The location is beautiful and quiet. It’s a great idea of small self contained cabins, with access to a vegetable garden, bush walks and a bbq area. The bed was comfortable. The facilities for cooking were all you needed. I stayed for 3 nights and it was a great place to use as a base to visit the local area. The owner was also very friendly and helpful giving suggestions for what to do and see in the area. My cabin did not have a little veranda to sit in the beautiful sunshine. The windows couldn’t be opened on the sitting room area for some fresh air.
- Helen (10/5): - Amazing views, walks, fresh produce, host was so helpful and friendly, cottage was perfect! Nothing!
- Elizabeth (9/5): - Location, quiet, serene, nature walk, vegetable garden, free wifi Nothing
- Maxine (10/5): -
- Jana (10/5): What a beautiful and peaceful place on earth! - We spent 3 nights in the Raspberry cottage and had a relaxing time. Sassafras Springs is a wonderful piece of land with various cottages, a BBQ area, a well-maintained garden, beautiful views, and wallabies right at your doorstep. The cottage itself has a cute yet functional interior; the beds are super comfy, and the fireplace creates a warm, cosy atmosphere. Grant, the host, is a lovely person, super polite and helpful. If you are looking for a place to stay to explore the Mount Field NP, Sassafras Spring is the place to be.
- Cathryn (10/5): A highlight of our trip to Tassie - Our cottage at Sassafras Springs was set against a hill overlooking a valley. The cottage contained everything we needed to make our stay cosy and comfortable and the hosts were generous with advice and provisions. It was a short drive to Mount Field where we did some spectactular walks.
- Peter (10/5): Heerlijk verblijf op een geweldige plek - Wat een geweldige plek; rust, ruimte, natuur.
Het huisje was gezellig en van alle gemakken voorzien. En we mochten groente en fruit halen uit de moestuin. Geweldig
De host was erg vriendelijk
- Russel (10/5): Healing for body and soul - Liked EVERYTHING Summerhill cottage was equipped with all you need, comfortable and serene, with an exceptional view from every window. Grant is the perfect host professional and helpful. We thoroughly enjoyed the walks on the property. Liked absolutely everything.
- Melissa (9/5): - What a view - very comfortable accomm

- Aaron (9/5): - Great setting on a hill overlooking the bush and beyond. We had our three kids with us and there was plenty for them to look at and do including the platypus pond on site. All amenities needed where in the cosy cottage
- Dave (10/5): -
- Bonnie (10/5): Comfortable and cosy stay with abundant wildlife and peaceful scenery. - Best place in Tasmania that I've stayed in. Comfy beds, choice in pillows, organic gardens for fresh veges and eggs. Quiet, beautiful location. Friendly and helpful host. Cute little cottage with everything you need. There isnt really any good restaurants and cafes nearby. But we brought own supplies and mostly did our own food.
- Roger (9/5): - Fantastic property with its own rainforest 🤩 Grant is a great host, amazing place.
- kathryn (10/5): Comfortable, relaxing a great place to unwind. - The locations is great for access to Mt Field National Park but is best for a peaceful and enjoyable getaway. Our cottage was rustic and charming but meet all our needs. Great views and we were able to pick fresh produce from the garden which was an added bonus.
- Shelley (10/5): Beautiful property within reach of some of Tassie’s most beautiful destinations. - The Summerhill cottage we stayed in was just divine! A quaint little house with its own big yard and two gorgeous ponies in the pasture nearby. The accommodation was tastefully decorated and had all the essentials you need. The bed was super comfortable and the lounge and kitchen area were very well appointed. Our host Grant was wonderful and nothing was ever too much trouble. The whole property is amazing. Will be returning to Sassafras in a few months as it was so enjoyable 🙏🏼☺️ Nothing. Everything was perfection!
- Jo-Anne (10/5): Beautiful, fun and comfortable. - The cute cottage and beautiful rainforest walk in a stunning and peaceful location made this a perfect start to our family holiday. We loved it all
- Herman (10/5): -
- Dieter (9/5): Wem es ruhig und abgelegen gefällt, der ideale Ort -
- Emily (10/5): Peaceful and very comfortable stay - Beautiful location with lovely walks and a berry farm nearby. Great to use some of the garden produce for our dinner!
- Laura (9/5): Relaxing and peaceful family friendly stay - Great location to be immersed in the country and wilderness as well as a short trip to visit Mt Field National Park. Highlights were the views from the verandah where we ate our meals and a rainforest walk on the property that was great for the kids. Nothing to mention
- Macgill (10/5): - Great property, beautiful surroundings.
- Colin (10/5): - Sassafras Springs is a magical place! Our host was very welcoming, suggesting suitable activities and answering our every question. The wood burner kept us really toasty and we enjoyed harvesting eggs and veg, all free fo the taking! Everything was great.
- James (7/5): We enjoyed our stay very much, and would happily return (better prepared on the kitchen front!!) - Great for walks, and getting a sense of a Tasmanian forest; old infrastructure no longer fully up to it, but offset by a quirky friendliness that is very endearing. Not for everyone, but we enjoyed it throughly. The kitchen utensils were short of the mark, and absence of a washing machine a potential issue (our hosts kindly did a load for us).
- bec (10/5): Fantastic - Amazing cottage - very clean. Grant was very welcoming. The wonderful
customer service made the property. Nothing
- Paul (10/5): - nice, remote location with enchanting walking trail
- Baker (10/5): - Beautiful location, cute cottages and fresh air
- Seino (9/5): -
- Sidhi (10/5): -
- Janet (7/5): - Lovely setting and nature walk No oven or stove top.
- Janet (7/5): -
- Rhys (9/5): - The cottage was lovely and warm and had a really homely atmosphere to it. But the real star of the show is definitely the surrounding property and the on location walk through the hills. True tranquillity and peace can be found there.
- Matthew (9/5): A special place. - Sitting on the hill in the sunshine overlooking the valley. Pure magic. The place was basic but comfortable for my needs.
- Michelle (10/5): Loved every minute. - We loved our stay at Sassafras! Great host, beautiful spot, would 100% stay here again. My only suggestion is maybe some spare firelighters in the cabin (for the city folk who aren't as adept at lighting fires as us country folk).
- Anne (10/5): Stunning - Magnificent views, amazing cottage, wonderful host, Grant was very knowledgeable about the area and gave that extra bit of attention. N/A
- Rohan (10/5): A cosy cabin with lovely warm fire, an a beautiful and tranquil setting. The walks were equal to Mt Fields National Par -
- Lesley (10/5): What an amazing place…our favourite in the whole of Tassie! Thanks for the beautiful stay and all the attention to detai - The location, the facilities, the walk, the extras, the fire…all of it! Nothing
- CHER YIN (9/5): -
- Geoff (5/5): A little disappointing - Nice aspect; fireplace. To be fair, we didn't have time to walk the property. Was smaller than anticipated; rustic but confined. Kitchen facilities and space was inadequate.
Note that other accommodation offered on the property was more spacious, with more room to swing a cat.
- Jeremy (8/5): Not much around the area in winter but for a short stay to visit Mount Field it was fabulous - The indoor fire place, the location the staff, and facilities for kids on offer where all fantastic the walks and views where also amazing Not much haha
- Stephen (10/5): Enjoyable and felt at home - Peaceful and relaxing environment
- Sara (9/5): Superb -
- Chieh (10/5): Exceptional - We had a wonderful three night stay here during late autumn. We got the old farmhouse, which was spacious, comfortable and clean. Kitchen was beyond fully equipped - they even had a rice cooker! It got a little chilly in the evenings but we got the fireplace going and the house was warm and cosy. There's a great view of the sunrise right from the front porch, with mists swirling in the valley below. If you're lucky enough to have a clear night, head out for some stargazing - the milky way glows gloriously through the night.
There's a small hill behind the property which leads into their own rainforest trek. Lots of mushrooms, ferns, and gum trees to be seen. Plenty of pademelons and wallabies at dawn and dusk too.
Grant and Marieke were wonderful and generous hosts. Guests are allowed into the vegetable garden to take what they need (harvest responsibly and leave some for others). Nothing at all
- Katherine (10/5): Fabulous cosy cottage - I actually want to live here. So many thoughtful touches, a fabulous view and a walk on the property that rivalled the ones in the National Park. Highly recommended!
- Juliet (9/5): Superb -
- Amanda (10/5): Exceptional - The ambiance coupled with the serenity and service. Everything was perfect.
- Sally (9/5): Superb - We loved the sweeping valley views, the flock of black cockatoos in the trees by the creek at dusk, the cosy cabin, a rainbow, the rainforest beauty, garden picked greens with our dinner and lots more. Such a beautiful, well thought out, and relaxing place.
- Robert (10/5): Exceptional -
- Emma (10/5): Tasmanian paradise! We can’t wait to go back one day. - We loved everything about this place from the location, the veggie patch, fruit trees, rainforest walk and the friendly helpful hosts and the thoughtful touches in the cottage.
- Suzanne (8/5): Perfect country retreat - Beds and linens very comfortable. Loved how well equipped the kitchen was. Owner was very welcoming. The whole property was very picturesque Bathroom needing repairs
- Birgit (8/5): Very good - Lovely host and cosy cottage, fire and magnificent view were a bonus..
Help yourself vegie patch and fresh eggs were gifted. The cabin was too basic/rustic..
- Wendy (8/5): Very good -
- Peter (9/5): WE had a lovely quiet time and left rested. - Good location on a farm in nature. Close to Mt Field Nat Park which we wanted to visit. House good size and well heated. Lovely beds and rooms. All necessary equipment for a self cook stay. No negatives.
- Susan (10/5): Perfect stay! - Amazing location so peaceful . Forest walk was stunning. Loved the veggie patch and chickens
- Farrugia (9/5): Great property and location. - Good value. Tidy , clean accommodation .Interesting location near National Park, rainforest walk on the property.
- Aaron (10/5): A magical place - We loved watching the view of the valley below from the deck of our cabin.
The cabin was cozy and comfortable and our hosts were super friendly and knowledgeable about the area.
- Yvonne (10/5): Exceptional - Excellent place. Taken care of the smallest details and you can feel the love the owner has for this place. It was lovely talking to Grant. The trail on the property was amazing. We saw so many birds and some pademelons. Also saw a platypus at the pond. The house was clean and well equipped and had everything we needed.
- Sue (9/5): Country retreat - Peaceful country location with amazing views. Grant the manager was very helpful and kind. We loved his wood pile sculptures. The vegetable garden was a bonus. Lovely walk up the hill to the yoga hut with a panoramic vista. Sweet and quirky decor that feels very homely. The bed in the cottage called Pearls was too firm for me. It was quite hot one day and the fan was not strong. It has minimal kitchen bench-space and no oven.
- Amy (9/5): Superb -
- Rhonda (10/5): Exceptional -
- Andreas (10/5): Exceptional -
- Colleen (8/5): Very good -
- Edith (10/5): Excellent ! - A very quiet cottage near the rainforest with a breathtaking view over fields and forest.
A place where we spent 3 relaxing days close to the Mount Field park.
A great place that I recommend to anyone who loves nature .
- Marie (10/5): Exceptional -
- Patricia (9/5): Great rural stay close to Mt Field National Park. - Beautiful location with views of valley and very own rainforest walk on the property.
Cute little workers cottage very comfortable and perfect for a short stay. Met by our friendly host Grant on arrival Nothing
- Murrette (10/5): Great walk lovely garden with fresh veg - It was a little piece of paradise Nothing it is rustic but be we loved it
- Hanneke (9/5): Peacefull, beautiful and a new favourite! - The cottage was very cozy and clean. The host was very welcoming and shared a lot of his local knowledge. The property has a beautiful rainforest walk and it is a great place to get away from it all. Being able to use the vegetable garden and getting a fresh egg from the chickens was really nice. The views amazing, especially sunrise and sunset. You were able to have a drink or picknick in different areas matching whether you wanted a private spot or have a chat with other guests. Being able to stay longer!
- Chris (9/5): Superb -
- Dianne (10/5): Lovely cosy cottage in a beautiful setting. - We loved The Old Farmhouse. It was cosy, clean, comfortable and full of character (while not being at all old and dated) and it had fabulous views. Grant was a great host, very friendly and helpful and gave us good recommendations about what to do. It was just 20 mins from Mountfield National Park and there was also a very well guided short walk from the property, with stunning views. The fresh eggs and picking fresh raspberries from the garden were an added bonus! We would definitely like to stay here again. Nothing.
- A (10/5): Perfect - Such a special place, I almost don’t want to recommend it so that this beautiful part of the world remains so untouched. Our family of five stayed in a comfy cabin with everything you could need including a cosy fire place where you could sit and look out over hillsides, trees and ponies. There is a lovely veggie patch and outdoor games too. We saw echidna and platypus every day, and the rainforest walk on the property rivals the official walks at Mnt Field. Easy access to all local attractions, and Grant is helpful and friendly. Wish we had booked a week! Absolutely nothing
- Anonymous (10/5): Great place with lots to see and do - Great, friendly host who was very helpful. Lovely home with a beautiful view. Lots of added extras to add to the experience. Will be back for sure!
- Mick (10/5): Redbull Hardline - Lovely venue
- Naomi (9/5): Fabulous stay, in a cottage full of character, in a wonderful location with an amazing garden! - Being able to use the produce from the garden was amazing! The host was very kind and ensured we were comfortable during our stay. The toilet door didn’t shut properly
- Nick (8/5): Very good -
- Ingeborg (10/5): Beautiful quiet place with all facilities - Secluded, beautiful setting not far from Mt Field National Park. Lovely walks, rooms were historically quirky and comfy. Grant was very welcoming and helpful. Veggie garden was great, BBQ facilities terrific and very soul restoring surroundings. Nothing
- Brenda (10/5): Fabulous. - The view from our cabin was amazing. Nothing!!
- Adams (10/5): Exceptional -
- Hans (8/5): Great - Remote, quiet, tranquil, rural setting, very relaxing
- Emily (10/5): 10/10 loved our stay at Sassafras Springs. Don’t hesitate to book :) - We spent two beautiful nights in Raspberry cottage (2 adults and 2 kids 18 and 14) so that we could visit nearby Mt Field Nat Park. We loved the breathtaking views from the property, the walk through adjacent creek/forest, the chooks and adjacent organic veggie garden and being able to pick fresh raspberries and blueberries! The cottage was charmingly decorated and the kitchen was well equipped. It was great that the toilet and shower each had their own doors, and the spa overlooking the valley was perfect. Thank you Grant and Marieke. We wished we could have stayed longer. It was our favourite place to stay during our trip through Tasmania. A fly screen door/window to keep bugs out at dusk when we wanted fresh air would be nice! (I think some of the other cottages had fly screen doors though)
- Ben (10/5): Exceptional - Location is excellent, very scenic and close to the national park.
Our host Grant was friendly, welcoming and helpful.
The grounds very great as our kids loved the veggie gardens and surrounds.
- Peter (10/5): Comfortable and well appointed accommodation. - Rustic but very well appointred accommodation had everything we needed for self catering. Fresh eggs and vegetables were a bonus. Stayed for 4 nights and used it as a base for hiking in Mt Field and South West NP.
- Gabor (10/5): Exceptional - Quiet place, very welcoming, felt like home. The fireplace gave a great rural vibe to it too
Fantastic views over the valley, the walk on the property is like a fairy tale
They have a resident platypus that we were lucky to spot, along with echidnas, wallabies, pademelons and amazing birds
The veggie patch contributed nicely to our meals with spring onions, berries, hazelnut, carrots, etc.
Great hikes nearby.
- Elaine (6/5): Pleasant -
- Hans-christian (10/5): Exceptional - The Owners private Rainforest was amazing. I enjoyed it. Would be come again next time. It was absolute silence there. Thanks for all.
- Karen (9/5): Great place to relax - need 3 nights min. - Loved the property. Warm, cosy hideaway on beautiful farm land with unique access to rainforest area. Thought everything was well thought of and conveniently located to family friendly activities. On our two night stay we had a great dinner at 1826, visited Westerbury Raspberries to pick our own and enjoy with Vhallia icecream, did a couple of walks at Mt Field and enjoyed one of the walks on the property. Kids loved the bedrooms and the bedding configuration. Grant was a great host with lots of local information. The vege garden, chickens and ponies were a bonus. Will be back again when next in Tasmania. Felt we needed 3 nights as 2 felt too short!
