Guest Reviews
- Jasvir (1/5): Pissed off - picture was nice on website.. - Needs good inspection by booking.com Everything
- Ngamjit (2/5): Very poor - Mold everywhere, water leak from shower room to bed room floor. the window have no lock. The bed uncomfortable. Dirty and unsecure.
- Jonathan (10/5): Exceptional -
- Muhammad (10/5): I am so happy to stay and very good staff - Very good Flexible
- Zenda (3/5): Poor -
- Lee (7/5): Good - I am here for the UTMB Translautau trailrace. Stay here because it is very near to the starting point. It is too expensive for the type of room i booked.
- Journey19799791971 (2/5): The worst hotel experience ever.......... - This is truly the worst hotel in Hong Kong. Where to start? The room feels it has not been cleaned ever. The mastic in the bathroom has signs of mould. The toilet keeps flowing. The thermostat controlling the air conditioning makes a noise. There are no black out blinds / curtains. The shower does not hold in it's fixing. The furnishings are ancient and cheap. There are no plugs next to the bed for charging. The mattress is as soft as wood, The Wifi keeps dropping out. They store cots at the end of the corridors which is not allowed, ask for the fire plan. The daily clean of the room consists of a Henry hoover for 30 secs and a check on the bathroom towels. Sockets in the corridor are hanging off the wall - danger to kids. No lift - you are expected to carry your suitcase up 2 flights of stairs even if you are disabled or elderly. The hotel feels it has been designed and run by 5 year olds. Mr. Kwok, the manager only attends on Wednesdays and has excuses lined up for all your enquiries. He clearly has no interest in the customer or the hotel. There are no plans for investment. He will tell you about the new floor in the restaurant but will ignore the mouldy ceiling near where the food is served - is that illegal? Rubbish bins and the entrance to the toilets are next to the tea/coffee area. The old servery has become a storage dump, when was this area last cleaned.? . Move the curtain below where the food is served. You will notice that it has never been cleaned. When told the Western breakfast is un-edible, even the staff wont eat it, he replies that it is catered to the mainland Chinese market. Well call it a mainland Chinese breakfast then. Look at the lighting, ceiling and mould in the reception area. Is that healthy? Look at the open electrics, Is that safe for children? Look at all the piles of stuff stored throughout the hotel. Is this additional fire loading allowed for? The staff lock the door between the dining area and reception. That is a fire escape. I don't think Mr. Kwok cares for your safety. The hotel is clearly understaffed. The 2 breakfast staff are assisted by serving robots. Maybe the board should consider replacing Mr. Kwok with a robot. I'm sure it would do a better job. This place needs to be shut down. I will be sending the many photos to the appropriate authorities. Enjoy your stay......
- Sagar (6/5): Pleasant -
- Lisa (3/5): Poor -
- Elron (6/5): Decent Staycation - -Clean and decent-looking room, beddings, and restroom
-Strong AC
-With Hot/Cold Shower
-Just beside a local restaurant offering bang for the buck steamed meals I guess for the price point, it's a little bit expensive for how it looks - looks decent but not that impressive. I was expecting a cheaper price for it.
Rooms in Kowloon area where i stayed next are far cheaper but better looking.
- Jaction (5/5): Passable -
- Thomas (1/5): Do not go there! - Nothing Very dirty and lousy. We refused to move in, and demanded our money back, which off course was refused...
- Barbara (2/5): I am able to provide this information as I decided not to stay after looking at the room - I didn’t know because I didn’t stay at the hotel when I found out the condition of the hotel and the room. When I walked into the room, I saw weird stain on the the bed sheets. There were even holes on the walls. It was absolutely unpleasant.
- Des (5/5): Passable -
- Companion23700644437 (2/5): Just don’t! - Just don’t even try.
This hotel should be shut down. It’s not sanitary at all!! Dust, mold and weird smells fill each room. The loudness of everything around you is insane.
Nothing has been cleaned properly in that place since it 1st opened. Camping would be a luxury option.
- Mariusz (7/5): Good -
- Roop (1/5): Bad -
- Robert (10/5): Good as gold - No breakfast Nothing
- Wong (7/5): A nice stay. - It is convenient with eateries and supermarkets near the property. The charge is reasonable. There was some noise from the kitchen of the eatery occasionally.
- Nicolas (4/5): Will not come back again. - Location. Cleanness.
- Vreni (1/5): Bad -
- 848nicolasa (2/5): Exactly what I was looking for - Worst hotel that I stayed, but my goal was to pay as less as possible and to be close of the hotel so with a bus it's 20 honk kong dollar and it's in a beautiful area. 3 little insect in my room, bed was confortable, the shower was miserable but work. Internet is almost not working. But that's cheap so still a good option.
- Holling911 (4/5): Probably worst hotel (or whatever) I've ever stayed in my entire life - Wow... most of the other reviews are accurate! This is a really low low end hotel. As it was the closer (unsold out) optionfor a transit stop in Hong Kong for a next day flight, I thought, how bad can it be. It is pretty bad. The room was skanky and the bed was pretty scary. I was so tired from a 17 hour flight, I figured out a way to lie down on this "bed" and after an ambien, finally dozed off. Albeit, the room was one flight above a restaurant (indoor/outdoor) that several intoxicated folks kept going on loudly until approximately 11+pm. A/C did not work properly and was extremely loud, plus, the restaurant started up at about 3:30 am with all the outside lights coming back on and people talking by 4:00am. No place to hang anything, filthy appearing love seat and you basically just did't want to touch anything. Access was not through the "lobby" of the "hotel", but rather behind this restaurant where there was standing water and junk everywhere with a woman prepping fish for the restaurant right at the stairs where one goes up one flight of stairs to the rooms. My bad! For that matter in hindsight, I'd been better off taking the train all the way to Hong Kong and staying there. $50 US to stay at this place and I'm telling you I would not recommend this to any seasoned traveler. Maybe best for a 19 year old willing to stay in a real nasty hostile!
- Meli2302 (2/5): WORST - HOTEL - EVER - I can not describe how disgusting this place is. The room was so dirty that we were scared to touch anything bared hand. They put the mattress directly on the floor (which is very dirty), we had to put our towels on the bed to be able to sleep as their bedsheets were smelly and looked dirty also...
The toilet barely works... wifi very slow. We paid 73euros for 1 night, I know is Hong Kong, but this price is ridiculously high for this hotel.
They should not advertise this place as is does not fill the requirement to be considered a hotel...
Do not waste your money, go somewhere else instead.
- ecnfung (4/5): Too basic - I am a local citizen in HK, and found this hostel too basic to stay.
We paid 700 a night on the Xmas Day, the price is not expensive for the living cost in HK, but not very cheap.
When we arrived at 3pm, the room was not ready, we gotta return in 15mins.
The entrance to the room was behind a local restaurant, which is fairly dirty....
The room is very basic, its clean but very basic.
At night its was very noisy, the hot water supply for shower is limited, there wss no flush water after 11pm.
At least the staff was able to help us and lend us a winer opener, that help then get a 2stars rating instead of 1star.
- raymond33783 (4/5): dirty, old, noisy lodging - This is not a hotel in the real sense. It is a private residential building standing in the middle of nowhere. The entrance to my room was from a filthy, wet, narrow back alley that was used as open kitchens for the restaurant in the front, and you could see people chopping fish and chicken. The stairway leading up to my room was full of mosquitoes (and once you open your door they will fly in). The restaurant in the front on the ground floor opened at 6:00 a.m., and customers started to make a lot of noises, which did not die down until 10:00 a.m. Then another group of customers came back at 12:00 noon to have lunch and make noises again. It happened again during nighttime when people had dinner downstairs. You could only have some quiet moments late at night. You found yourself living in the middle of a market. It was terrible experience!
My room had a noisy air-conditioner hanging over my bed, so I could not sleep despite jet lag. Not turning on the air-conditioner, and the room would be unbearably hot.
The reception was located at another building and it was a messy place, with people selling Chinese stuff and negotiating prices. It hardly looked like a hotel reception office.
There was no tourist spot nearby. The Big Buddha, cable car and Disneyland were all far away. The only thing you will get is the beach, which is about 5 minutes walk away. There is another hotel called Silvermine Beach Resort by the beach -- this one is nice hotel. I think most people get confused by the names of these two places.
- borysb9 (8/5): Airport stopover - I was really afraid what i will see after reading all negative reviews, so decided not to write my review immediately after stay.
I will say the hotel is very good for airport stopover if you do not want to pay triple more for hotels located closer to HKIA.
Well, it is among cheapest hotels in HK at all, so if you do not know what 'average' hotel in Hong Kong is, you may find it terrible. It is quite worn, small room with everything very old and primitive. It have impression that it was built with student lowers in mind :)
However, further in list are advantages only. Despite old or odd, the room has bigger bed than average, air-conditioning, fridge, kind of kitchenette, free WiFi, even light-proof curtains and balcony. Airport buses and ferries to city center (both 25-35 mins) are three minutes walk from hotel and operating around the clock (well, sometimes you better change your bus at Tung Chung terminal). Note that even Airport Express operates from 6 AM, so this hotel is one of best (and certainly cheapest one) option if you have departure flight earlier than 8AM.
I slept first morning, and left at 3AM next day, so have not tried their breakfast.
Area around is 'cheerfully cheap' with many seafood restaurants for small pocket.
I will recommend it for airport stopover if you are not too sensitive to cleaniness and understand what is budget standard in HK.
- Meggs888 (2/5): Don't bother! - Our stay here started with poor organisation and unacceptable rooms. We didn't get the room configurations I originally booked and one room was uninhabitable but they did give us new rooms which were somewhat better. The location is fairly out of the way and a long taxi ride from the airport with no real attractions close by, the food in the restaurant downstairs was delicious though
- carlotta158cobb (10/5): a delightful hotel - This place is under rated! Our large clean room had a view of the canal and the promenade from our private balcony. Our bathroom had its own water heater, so we were in control of that. There was also another sink just outside the bathroom. This is nice when you are sharing a room. Towels are available on request. The air conditioner worked just fine.
The location is hard to beat. The swimming beach and ferry pier are a 10 minute walk in different directions.
The staff is very gracious, although most have limited English.
The restaurant is excellent, although very Chinese. The dinner menu is in English, and you can get a fork if you ask. Dim sum and tea are what is for breakfast, not toast and coffee. It is a neighbourhood place, and it is a kick to see the fishermen come in for a working man's breakfast.
If you want a hotel that is just like home, stay home!
- nicathetraveler (6/5): Authentic Hong Kong Life by the Mountains and by the Sea - Honestly, this isn't your typical holiday resort hotel. But I tell you they do offer a decent room (with a personal fridge, TV, closet with hangers, blankets and electric water boiler) and toilet. The staff are really friendly and helpful. Plus it is easy to ride a bus (3M and 1) from Mui Wo to Tung Chung and from Tung Chung you can take a train going to Kowloon and Central HK. Also, if you take time to walk around the vicinity it is just around 5 minutes for you to reach the Silvermine Bay Beach and 10 minutes to reach Mui Wo Ferry if you want to try it going to Central HK.
More details of my review is on nicacanwrite.wordpress.com (will be posted on Monday)
- sataliteray (2/5): the cesspit of hongkong - discusting filthy pigsty no towels no bedding no bloody good for a dog the photos that some people have displaid are not of this dump electric socket in shower next to broken boiler if I put my photos they will do me for infesting the internet better hotels in syria
- Priscananda_ (4/5): You get what you pay for - The hotel was really hard to find - I kept asking people on the way and they sent me to another hotel called Silvermine.
The silverview resort holiday is a cheap accomodation, I stayed there only one night.
The place is a bit dodgy (messy reception), dirty alley and stairs... No bedsheets on the blanket and a very old bed and sink.
However as it was mentioned in previous comment if you are willing to stay there keep in mind that you get what you pay for.
- mrs_neri (10/5): A budget room with the kindest staff - I went there with my family and expected too much. But the staff are so accommodating and good so it's okay. The value for money is also good. It's a good room and best for those travelers who finds cheap hotels. I thought that this hotel is near the main city. No it's not. It's near the beach and it took us 1 hour to go to Disneyland but they helped us book a taxi. All in all is a great stay.
- littlebrian (2/5): disgusting - we stayed one night only because it was too late to find anywhere else. it is not a hotel in any sense, a tiny room above a cafe, the wash hand basin was like a sink for peeling vegetables. the shower did not work at al it merely dripped cold water although i had put the heating element on over an hour before . no towels so we used the bed sheet to dry ourselves in the morning. all the rooms are down a back alley which is disgusting and then up a stairs full of broken bits of tile. if you have already booked this place , don,t go and certainly do not pay untill you have seen the room. the silvermine beach resort is ten times better .
- Jack_CCC (6/5): Very Basic! - This place is not to be confused with the upmarket Silvermine Beach Resort which is located next to the beach. This place (Silverview Holiday Resort) is a budget lodging located amongst some buildings next to the Silver River. The lodging (I am loath to call it a hotel or resort) was a bit obscure and could not be located despite me circling the vicinity several times. I finally called the reception and the receptionist was kind and quick enough to come out and look for me. Do not be alarmed. This was a really basic lodging. The reception was a mess with all sorts of stuff lying around. The service though was deferential and polite, and I think the receptionist tried quite hard to please as he was aware of the shambles of the place. The actual rooms were located at the next building and accessible via a narrow flight of stairs. There were 3 rooms at each landing and my room was located just above a Chinese seafood restaurant. No towels, no toiletries. The noise from the restaurant filtered into the room and went past midnight. The walls were thin and I could hear my neighbours. I booked this place as it was the cheapest (HK$800 per night) and most convenient (it had a good website and responded very quickly to my queries) place to stay for a run event at Mui Wo beach the following day. I got what I paid for. I took all these in good spirit as I had earlier encountered a visitor who had no accommodation for the night and would be returning to the airport to spend his night there. So comparatively, I was fortunate.
- AbhijeetNayak (6/5): Do not expect too much - A budget non-starred place, couple of flats stringed together to form a hotel. Rooms are basic but have the bare minimum facilities such as electric kettle, aircon, clean towels & sheets. What else can one expect in HK for 75 USD/day. Mui Wo ferry terminal & bus station are stone's throw away. Ferry leaves for mainland every 30 mins. Disneyland is 45 mins & 200 HKD away by taxi.
- ArtiMelodic (10/5): Great - This is a wonderful place. It is only a small boat ride from Hong Kong and is also brilliant for watching the sunrise. Plus it's right by the beach!!! Overall, I had a really comfortable stay and very very much hope I can stay at this lovely place again.
