Guest Reviews
- Perry (6/5): The flood and broken television overshadowed the stay and it was difficult to settle in. - The location is great. Worked well for us we were close to family and all amenities of Commercial Drive. The bathroom flooded on arrival while washing hands and the television setting needed to be addressed. Excuses were provided to justify each of these issues.
- Teresa (9/5): - Plenty of local restaurants on Commercial Drive.
A beautiful heritage house. Could have done with more "lay down" surfaces for laptop.
- Katlyn (6/5): There is no sense of personal touches or charm along with what has already been noted - Good location, extremely close to a major street with tons of restaurants and markets The bathroom was set up so that a soap dispenser attached to the wall was dripping into the floor of the top with the shower and made it extraordinarily dangerous the first night of taking showers in the bathtub. Also, the rug in the bed space seemed to be extremely dirty and in great need of being shampooed. Along with this some of the window shades were in a dilapidated state.
- Francoise (10/5): Séjour à Vancouver! - Facile à trouver, confortable, cosy, calme!
- Xylia (9/5): Super cozy and unforgettable spot - Loved the comfort of my room! Still dreaming about the comfy bed and high thread count sheets especially. The fireplace and bathtub were great bonuses. They left tons of coffee pods (compostable!) and creamers in my room which I really appreciated. Also let me do early check-in and later check-out. Cute walkable neighborhood away from downtown (but easy to get downtown via Uber or bus/train). My only suggestion is to put a dimmer in the bathroom! It's such a cozy & romantic room overall, but the only lighting option in the bathroom was super bright overhead lighting, eek. Also access to a bowl / plate and flatware would be nice, as I had to get takeaway meals a few evenings.
- Sarah Donati ford (10/5): Wonderful stay -
- Julie (10/5): A gorgeous little home from home. - This place is a real gem - cosy and homely, stylish but comfortable. A real home from home. We didn't see the owner/manager, but had no problems.
- Robyn (10/5): -
- Tracey (Prefer Odette) (10/5): Beautiful place just don’t take the bus unless your well traveled - A home away from home. Lovely finishes. Comfy bed. Couldn’t fault it. Nothing, however the bus through the east side into Vancouver city can be quite sad and confronting due the fentanyl issues in that area.
- Stursa (10/5): -
- Cecil (8/5): - L’emplacement, la place dans la rue, la gentillesse du personnel, la propreté. Un peu de bruit puisqu’il s’agit d’une maison ancienne.
- KAMBIN (9/5): -
- Karen (9/5): This would be so easy to recommend to my friends. - The room was very comfortable. Everything worked and there were several special treats. We enjoyed the quietness of the neighborhood and the convenience of several good restaurants only 2 blocks away: Uprising Bakery, Sushi, Bombay and Du Soleil breakfast. 0
- Carley (9/5): - Beautiful bathroom with a wonderful shower and bath. Comfortable bed with extra comfy pillows. View of the garden and good coffee and tea to make in the room.
- Jay (10/5): - The layout of the space was excellent, and the bed was very comfortable!
- Ruth (7/5): - We loved the location in a quiet residential neighborhood and the common space balcony that we could enjoy in the evening. Television only seemed accessible if you subscribe to streaming services, which we don't. Watching movies or a bit of television is something we enjoy occasionally when we stay in hotels.
- Amanda (10/5): Happy Aussies - Wonderful house in a perfect spot. Short stroll to Commercial Drive which is full of fabulous places to eat and drink. Not far from the Subway to take you Downtown. And bring you 'home' to your little piece of Vancouver paradise. 'Molly's Room' was beautifully set up. Big comfy bed and pillows. Even Netflix. Took our breath away when we first opened the door. And with a bathroom, complete with chandelier, endless hot water, and gorgeous feature tiles. Watched the sun set from the front balcony.
Great value. Do yourselves a favour. Liked everything. And we rarely write reviews.
- Andrew (9/5): Wonderful place to stay in a beautiful city. - Great location- not in center city, but close enough to get there quickly. Quiet. Close to lots of restaurants and shopping. HVAC was a little finnicky. That's it, really.
- Walker (9/5): Superb - Comfortable feel, great location and Netflix was a nice touch. Parking was a bit of a challenge.
- Smith (9/5): We stayed for 2 nights. We are pleasantly surprised about the bottle of wine on the credenza. - The location is great, close to a lot of shops. This is just an improvement to what is already good: more cream for coffee and tea please. We know we can ask for it but don't want to disturb the host for such a small request.
- Kirsty (9/5): Superb -
- Mary (9/5): Superb - The house is on a beautiful shady street with restaurants and bus service nearby. Room and bath were nicely decorated and had all the amenities we needed, plus a few treats. We appreciated the two luggage racks. The host is helpful and responds quickly.
- Rand (9/5): Superb - The room was comfortable well appointed. It was easy to access the building and the room. The location was convenient for restaurants and for exploring the area! Parking was a challenge sometimes.
- Tracy (10/5): Gorgeous and comfortable. The view from the deck is amazing. - Everything
- Nicole (10/5): Perfect place to stay to see Taylor Swift's last tour weekend. Very clean & earth friendly! - Coffee and all amenities were provided! Very comfortable and perfect size for our needs. Nothing
- Nathalie (10/5): Looking forward to staying at this location again. What a wonderful experience. - The guest house was amazing. Nice large rooms. Beautiful kitchen with all necessary equipment. The bathroom was wonderful. Beautiful tub and large shower. The bed was extremely comfortable! The only thing that was missing was a dining table and chairs. There was space at the counter to eat with 2 stools. We enjoy playing cards and games and there was really no space to sit and play.
- Penelope (9/5): Lofty Experience - Quiet leafy, neighbourhood
Spacious apartment
Shops and restaurants at the bottom of the street
View of the city
Great coffee down the street
Shop at BOSA If you can’t manage steps don’t stay here!
- Revgt (9/5): First Time Visit to Vancouver - The introductory e-mail told us all we needed to know to gain access and feel comfortable in our well-appointed room. The owners were incredibly helpful and friendly. We had all we needed and were sufficiently close to Downtown Vancouver to make it a good base from which those who are active can explore the city. The property is interesting and the business model is well-worked. Trying to use a laptop without a small table to lay it on proved interesting. Some in the neighbouring rooms didn't understand the information about noise levels.
- Monica (10/5): Perfect Stay in Vancouver - We stayed in "The Retreat" suite for a week in August and it was phenomenal. I picked this suite in particular because I was traveling with my elderly mother and there were fewer stairs needed to get in and out of the suite compared to other rooms in the home. We loved the beautiful garden in the back of the house. The neighborhood has many excellent restaurants in walking distance. We never had an issue finding street parking. The suite itself was SPOTLESS and incredibly comfortable. Everything we could need was provided, and I particularly liked the fact that The Retreat had a washer/dryer. I really appreciated the fact that a lot of the products they used (e.g. soaps, coffee etc.) were from local companies.
Margit was truly the most amazing host. She made us feel so welcomed from the moment we arrived and gave us great pearls of information about the area. She was always available if we had a question or needed help, and we always felt so well taken care of during our week long stay. Thank you, Margit! Nothing
- Gavin (10/5): Great place to stay in Vancouver! - Great location close to restaurants and easy to drive, bike or walk to attractions and more pubs and restaurants! Margit gave us valuable local insights and was friendly and approachable! The Ivy was comfortable, beautifully appointed and had excellent views from the balcony! Definitely on the top of our list next time we visit Vancouver!
- Penelope (9/5): Leafy Gem - Quiet
Near restaurants
Near transport
Very helpful staff
- Natasha (10/5): Must Book! Amazing B&B. - As soon as we arrived we felt as if we had arrived at our families home, extremely welcoming host. The room was set up lovely, with a complimentary bottle of wine. On street parking was easy and 15 mins into the city car park (all day parking £5) - You could walk to Commercial Street for many options for dinner. Would 100% book again here. Everything was great :-)
- Peter (10/5): Exceptional -
- Dee (10/5): An absolute gem - The Ivy is a real gem! Spotlessly clean, beautifully furnished and cosy. Fantastic location on a safe, quiet residential street, 2 mins walk from "The Drive" where there are several fantastic cafes, bars and restaurants. 15 min uber into downtown Vanxouver and port. Tram 10 mins walk away. Complimentary wine in the room a lovely gesture. Everything was wonderful. A bottle of water in the room would have been great, but splitting hairs there.
- Julie (10/5): Gorgeous, quiet and spotlessly clean. - It was spotless and well appointed.
- Victorp1 (10/5): Stay at the Ivy on Parker - Excellent service, great help when needed, very accommodating with elderly people, had the Florence room that was very nice and well equipped as well as comfortable. If I will return to Vancouver this would be my place of choice. Nothing
- Pete (10/5): Exceptional -
- Amy (10/5): Fabulous hospitality and luxurious comfort - Amazing guesthouse! Great instructions, easy check in and access. Very comfortable bed, beautifully soft sheets & towels. Lovely safe leafy street, quiet, walking distance to many cafes, bars and restaurants. Helpful and hospitable host - can’t recommend enough! The place had everything we could want/need for a few nights.
- Michael (10/5): Exceptional -
- James (8/5): Helpful hosts when flights went wrong - great location, outside city centre but with a great range of shops and restaurants nearby. BA flights to get there...
- Martin (7/5): Good -
- Jackie (10/5): Exceptional - Lovely, elegant room. Great attention to detail and nice touches. Walking distance to numerous restaurants and small food markets.
- Paula (9/5): Wonderful stay! - Location, very clean and spacious. Quite and there is everything you need. Great hospitality! Nothing
- Carmel (10/5): Fabulous accommodation. Just off the very cool Commercial Drive - Spacious, clean, modern
Extremely comfortable bed
Hostess was accommodating and friendly
- Stephen (8/5): The property is excellent and the hostess is great. Just consider the location. - Lovely characterful property with beautiful free toiletries. Host very informative. Restaurants and shops 10 minute walk away and bus routes into town close by. The only downside is we suggest you stay away from East Hastings which is where there are many homeless drug addicts. We suggest you do not take the bus into town but either drive or take a cab which takes you via Strathcoma.
- Jean (9/5): Superb -
- Miles (10/5): Exceptional - Friendly staff, comfortable room, great location
- Jodi (9/5): Beautiful, comfortable room, great location with lovely hosts and a gorgeous sunset. - The location was great with good eating options in easy walking distance. The room was lovely with a very comfortable bed and tea and coffee facilities. There was also ice available in the credenza on the landing. The bathroom with a heated floor, which is always a nice touch, a good high shower for those that are tall and a nice bath. Being able to enjoy the sunset on the upstairs balcony was an absolute highlight. Margit was lovely and very accommodating.
- Alison (10/5): Exceptional -
- Matt (10/5): I’m very glad we stayed here! Loved the neighborhood and Magit the co-owner was super helpful - Very lovely inn on a quiet street in a super fun neighborhood
- Paul (10/5): Great location, great host, great room! - Very nice historic building, very kind and friendly host, big room, clean, good location close to public transport and nice restaurants and shops. Our room didn’t have blackout blinds, so if you’re sensitive to light make sure you bring a sleep mask.
- Sebastian (10/5): We liked very much to stay in The Ivy on Parker Guesthouse. Margrit is a very pleasant host. - Tout c'est très bien passé. Super holidays !
- James (10/5): Met all our expectations and more. - Perfect location, off the main tourist area. A beautiful period house from which to experience the authentic Vancouver. An easy bus ride or a longer walk to the train station to reach the City Centre. Very gracious hosts.
- Lorna (10/5): Comfortable and spotlessly clean - The bed was comfortable, plenty of hot water and the owners were lovely. Nothing, all was fab
- Joshua (10/5): Beautiful guesthouse in peaceful suburb - Lovely place to stay, good location just a short bus ride (10-15 minutes) outside of downtown Vancouver. Beautiful setting a peaceful suburb of the city, would highly recommend.
- Raymond (10/5): Exceptional - The hosts thought of everything for your convenience. They also made a point to source things locally and sustainably such as the locally made soaps in the bathroom and the compostable Keurig coffee packs, not to mention the bamboo tissues. It would have been nice to have had a light breakfast served more available. The room is a bit tight in terms of space. Mattress was a bit soft in terms of support.
- Helen (7/5): Good location close to Commercial Ave, but parking was not always available outside the property. - The room was large and spacious. The owners left us a welcome bottle of wine which was very kind. The house has many attractive features, including beautiful stained glass. There was a strange, rather unpleasant smell when we entered the property.
- Larry (10/5): Exceptional -
- Jill (10/5): A great place to come home to! - It was a lovely, luxurious stay for me. A great place to relax! The room was a little hot one evening and despite reading the instructions for the unit, it couldn’t get the room to a desirable temperature. But that was a minor issue all around.
- Sophia (9/5): Superb -
- Sarah (10/5): 10/10 would stay here again - The neighborhood was beautiful, the house was stunning and the room was cozy and we absolutely loved it! If you enjoy dark academia/ victorian vibes you will love this place. The bed was very comfy and I loved the furniture in our room. It was at the back of the house so very quet but the street in general was not busy at all. We also loved that there where no children and the other guests where respectfull noisewise. We felt very welcome and hope to come and stay there again. The mini fridge was a little loud.. but the room had a mini fridge (which was great for keeping leftovers as I can't eat a lot in one go) so who's complaining?! We acctually can't realy think of anything we didn't like.
- Kevin (9/5): An amazing place to stay when visiting Vancouver. - We were very warmly welcomed by the owners who gave us a short introduction to the place, what to do in the neighborhood as well as where to go when visiting the city center.
The room was very nicely and charmingly decorated and furnished and clean; it had everything you could ask for.
The balcony on the second floor invites for a nice view towards the city center and you can enjoy a beautiful sunset.
While the house is located a bit farther from the city center, it is easy to get there with a bus that runs not far from the place. However, close by is a busy street that has a lot to offer itself, little shops, restaurants and more.
We felt immediately welcome and really enjoyed our stay. We will definitely back when visiting Vancouver.
- Marianne (8/5): Very good -
- Anonymous (10/5): The Ivy on Parker is simply a lovely place to stay in Vancouver. - The property is well maintained with attractive gardens at the front. It’s located in a quiet neighborhood and is within walking distance to some great restaurants and breweries.
- Sigrid (9/5): Exciting and great days in Vancouver - The accommodation is located in a nice area near Commercial Drive, with many cafes, bars, restaurants and small stores. We were at the accommodation before check-in time and could leave our luggage there until our room was ready. We were greeted very warmly and immediately felt very comfortable. The room is very comfortably furnished and very quiet. The bathroom also very clean and very well equipped. We had a very nice stay and can really recommend this accommodation with very friendly and helpful hosts. There is nothing to mention here.
- Simone (10/5): Exceptional -
- Sally (10/5): Exceptional -
- Peter (9/5): Beatiful house in a beautiful neighbourhood - Nice stylish house (queen Anne revival) in a lovely, historic and quiet neighbourhood. A bottle of wine as a welcome gift was very much appreciated. Coffee and water were for free. Fridge in the room. Centre city was easy reachable with buses and metro. On commercial street lots of restaurants and vintage shops. We met the host by accident when we left. Communication went through mail and app. It felt a bit unpersonal, nevertheless our host responded immediatly when we had aquestion.
- Jean-michel (10/5): Exceptional - Perfect place to stay! Close to a commercial drive with a lot of different restaurants, easy to park a car. The bed is very confortable. We also enjoyed the front house patio. The host is there if you need her. Would recommend without any hesitation!
- Mark (10/5): Absolutely highly recommend - High quality . This is a must . Xlent location , quiet , great hostess. 100 mtrs from shops, grocers , large variety of middle rest, cafes . 10 mins from cbd by Uber. Fantastic internal , spacious - best equiped in a months travel . Wifi Xlent . Great bed . Fabulous bathroom . Nothing
- Layton (10/5): Solo trip to attend Laver Cup - It was a well restored property with lots of the original character maintained owner was very accessible and friendly Lots of helpful pointers
Close to bus stops Nothing really it was all good
- Akshita (10/5): Home away from home - The owner and staff were extremely helpful in suggesting restaurants/local cafes. My baggage was delayed and they really helped me out. Felt like a home away from home and extremely comfortable! High quality fixtures/appliances. The shower was gorgeous. The bottle of welcome vino was a great touch and much appreciated. Slightly too far from the sky train for us (20+ min walk).
- Dk (10/5): Beautiful Historic Home - This home was awesome! Margit was so very nice and extremely helpful in giving us ideas where to go and in securing our airport ride. This is a historic home, rooms were very clean and furnished with everything to make our stay so enjoyable! Nice outdoor sitting areas. Coffee maker and refrigerator in each room. Two blocks walking distance to bustling street with shops, restaurants, parks and bars.
We would definitely recommend staying here! Nothing to not like about this home! Exceptional!
- Kay (10/5): A wonderful relaxing, extremely comfortable stay in an exceptionally accommodation. - The property is exceptional. Located within a beautiful traditional house in a leafy green tree lined street. A perfect base to explore Vancouver. A way from the hustle and bustle of the city a quiet relaxing place to unwind. The retreat is sublime, with every home comfort. A wonderful large comfortable bed with high quality linen. A very well equipped kitchen with high quality appliances and such detail to cater for your culinary needs. From mixer to blender with all the cooking utensils you would need for preparing any meal. Even a draw with things like sellotape and bits and bobs like you would have at home. An extremely comfortable living area with a beautiful feature fireplace and a lovely study alcove . There are top of the range washing machine and dryer with everything provided to use them. The bathroom is beautiful with a wonderful walk in shower and separate bath, luxury dressing gowns and towels are provided along with high quality locally made toiletries. There are lovely outside seating areas which overlook front and back well maintained and beautifully stocked gardens. The owner Margit provided lots of information before our visit including how to check in. However we were fortunate to met her on our arrival and She was very welcoming and gave us valuable information on travelling around the area. Also was very helpful booking a taxi for us to go to the airport when we left. Look no further for your stay in Vancouver. You can not find anything that will surpass the Ivy .
- Mark (9/5): This is a great suite and great location for either a business or pleasure stay. - Great location near Commercial Drive. Private entrance. Very well equipped. Homey, comfortable feel. Very nice welcome. I will stay again. I was recovering from a long day and slept until about 9 am. Staff appears to have entered the suite while I was sleeping to use the clothes dryer. The dryer was hot and there was moisture inside it when I woke up. I will request that no one enter the suite without my permission next time.
- Carmen (10/5): Exceptional - Extremely well equipped rooms. Attentive and friendly staff:
- Magdalena (10/5): Best stay during our roadtrip holiday - Everything!! Margit made us feel welcome even before the arrival, she sent an email out after the first night ensuring we were happy and asking whether we need anything. She was very friendly and chatty when we bumped into her on two separate occasions and even offered to store our luggage after the check out. Everything has been thought through in this place. There were even freshly cut flowers on the table and a bottle of wine for us to have. The loft apartment exceeded our expectations with its coziness and having everything we needed. Everything was perfect including the view!
- Giovanni (10/5): Exceptional - My room (florence) Nothing
- Jane (10/5): Exceptional - Beautiful house full of character, lovely room with super comfortable beds, high quality finishes in the bathrooms, etc. Margrit is a really lovely host and very helpful. Definitely recommend it!!
- Jill (9/5): Superb -
- Marty (7/5): Good -
- Nynke (8/5): See above - Nice guesthouse in quite neighbourhood with little Italy area with lots of food and coffee shops just around the corner . Easy access with the bus and metro . I found it perfect for a couple of days but I did miss interaction with staf and order guests .
- Ann (10/5): Exceptional - Owners were very accommodating and check in with us through out our stay to make sure we were comfortable. Home was spotless, It is a beautifully restored heritage home. Easy walking to many eateries and vintage shops. Enjoyed the porches for morning coffee and pastries ( bought at nearby shop)
- Fvdb (10/5): A perfect stay - The owner was extremely helpful and friendly from the very moment we booked. She answered all our practical questions promptly by mail, on site made room for the bikes we rented in their private shed so these would be safe, gave us advice about our visit and made us feel truly at home. Everything was super clean, fully equipped and cozy. The house itself is a little gem, two steps away from "The Drive". Public transport and bike lanes nearby. The lovely garden with sitting area are an amazing spot to enjoy a drink or a meal outside. Having to catch our flight back. We'd have loved to stay longer.
- Thomas (8/5): a good place for a short stop - the location of the ivy is in a good neighborhood. two streets away is commercial street with plenty of shops and restaurants. We were a short taxi ride to our cruise ship. no problems
- Beverly (10/5): If we are in Vancouver again, we would definitely stay here. - Location was very close to a street with local restaurants of all types. The owner, Janet, was so hospitable and friendly. She was also very helpful to us. The Loft is lovely, providing everything we needed, including a lovely view.
- Kaarin (10/5): A wonderful place from which to explore Vancouver. We would definitely stay here again. - Janet was so warm and helpful in recommending places to eat, rent bikes, etc. There was a great attention paid to the little details: flowers in the room, excellent coffee, lovely linens, and a bottle of local wine in the room. Nothing
- Donny (10/5): Excellent all around! -
- Anonymous (10/5): Exceptional - Owners were very accommodating and friendly. Room was very clean and facilities beautiful.
Very close to Little Italy and restaurants
- Suhail (8/5): Stay was great, comfortable beds quite place with good view - Location was great, lot of coffee breakfast options available with in walkable distance. Room was clean and host was super good had a good chat with her, location is in prime area and beautiful property have to lift luggage to 2nd floor with lots of stairs only that and AC was not that great in day time ( we don't stay much in day time so that's fine but if that taken care then on whole it's really great property )
- Yannick (9/5): Superb -
- Amid (9/5): Its perfect place and great location -
- Jonathan (9/5): We loved our stay and would stay there again as well as recommend to others - The place was well appointed and even though it was small, it didn't feel that way. We loved to outdoor seating areas and the location was amazing. On street parking was easy and much appreciated to not have to pay for hotel parking in a big city! The bed was really comfy.
- Peter (10/5): Great hosts and well prepared room. - Just about everything. Nada.
- Julia (10/5): Beautiful guesthouse - We really enjoyed our stay. Everything you could possibly need was available. The owners have put a lot of thought and love into the house. The linens, bed and bedding were very nice. We enjoyed sitting outside and loved the flowers. The location has restaurants, grocery stores and liquor stores within walking distance. Would certainly book here again. There are stairs up to the front porch and from the street parking. I have bad knees but was able to climb the stairs. If you book the ground level unit you'll only have stairs up from the street to climb.
- David (10/5): Don’t go to Vancouver - Parker Street is lovely with old Avenue trees and vintage houses reminding me of the Richmond District in San Francisco. The vibe on Commercial Drive is great in the evening and there is a wonderful variety of cuisine on offer including a great Indian, a wonderful oyster and seafood bar, Vietnamese, Ethiopian and vegetarian all in a traditionally Italian neighbourhood with pizza and pasta galore. At 1842 the linen was superb, the pillows so comfy, the bath so welcome, the hosts very friendly, Netflix a bonus, great coffee although the breakfast blend far surpassed the French and Colombian and a great veranda to sit and sip your wine in the evening I felt uncomfortable every day in Vancouver. There is block after block on the way Downtown of destitution, deprivation, dilapidation and human horror worse than I have seen anywhere else ever in the US, the UK, Europe even India. I would never voluntarily go to Vancouver again! Such a disappointment. The wonders of Stanley Park, Gastown, Granville Island Public Market and the friendliness of the people doesn’t in my very personal view compensate for the human misery you can’t avoid seeing.
- Shannon (10/5): Exceptional - Watching the sunset from the balcony
- Gillian (9/5): Great stay at The Ivy on Parker - The Ivy has been renovated to a high standard. We were in what I think is the smallest room, Molly, but it was still more than big enough for our 3 night stay. Lovely towels and bathrobes. Great shower. Heating and air con depending on time of year. Nice space to sit out on at the front .
We already had restaurant reservations but there is a variety of options within easy walking distance.
Magrit was very friendly when we met her and wanted to make sure we had everything we needed. There wasn't anything not to like
- Anonymous (9/5): Fully loaded apartment, great view from top floor. Everything we wanted. - Great neighborhood and very close to the people we were visiting. Lots of stairs to even get to the front door. Not recommended for people with impaired mobility.
